He was apparently the subject of this newspaper story from 13 jun 1924 (Santa Ana Register (Santa Ana, Orange Co., California): "Beat Landlady's Wee Son, Charge &mdash Accurse of administering a severe beating to the five-year-old son of his landlady, L. Z. Hoskins of 1243 West Fourth street, today was in jail here, charged with battery. The police last night received a telephone message stating that "a man is killing a boy with a club," and officers at once rushed to the scene to find the "would-be murderer" according to Police Officer Sid Smithwick, who signed the complaint against Hoskins. Mrs. Myrtle Albright, mother of the boy who was said to have been severely beaten with a club, did not appear very deeply concerned in the matter, Smithwick said. Neighbors, however, declared that "no such going on will be tolerated in this part of town," so the officers did their duty, according to Officer Smithwick."
The 1920 census (Santa Ana, Orange Co., California) shows the young son as David, age 1 8/12 years (presumably as of the census day, January 1, 1920, thus placing his birth in April, 1918). In the 1930 census (Blaisdell Precinct, Yuma Co., Arizona), the son of the corresponding age is listed as Robert.
A notice in the San Bernardino County Sun 27 feb 1931, p. 15, turns out to have additional significance: "Police Hunt Morrow to Tell Him Stepson Safe at Holtville. If W. M. Morrow, believe to be in the vicinity of Colton, reads this, he will know that his 12-year-old stepson, Robert Albright, is at Holtville, staying with Mrs. W. H. Meyer. Mrs. Meyer yesterday wrote to the Colton police department that the boy had come to her house in search of food and clothing. He stated that the stepfather and L. V. Hoskins had gone to Colton from Yuma, Ariz. The boy, having permission to visit Yuma friends, returns to the truck where he was said to have met the stepfather, after the vehicle had gone. Mrs. Hoskings requested the police to assist in locating the adults." Holtville is in Imperial Co., California, between San Bernardino and Yuma. Mrs. W. H. Meyer was Hazel, wife of William H. Meyer, This couple is listed on the 1930 census with their "ward" James Albright, age 15, born in Colorado. James was David's elder brother. W. M. Morrow was the William Warrow who may nor may not have married their mother, Myrtle Reedy, after leaving her second husband L. V. Hoskins.
We found his obituary in the News Leader (Staunton, Virginia) 04 jun 2000, p. 2: "David R. Albright. STAUNTON - David Robert "Bob" Albright, 82, formerly of Baldwin Park, died at 3:45 a.m. Saturday (June 3, 2000) at the Stuarts Draft Christian Home. He was born May 9. 1918, at Denver, a son of Issac and Frances E. Reedy Albright. He was a merchant marine, a retired electrician from Local 6 IBEW, involved in the City of South San Francisco's local government, president of the local water board there and a member of the Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeanne Albright; a sister; and two brothers. Survivors include his daughter, Pamela McCray and her husband, Arthur, of Stuarts Draft; a son, David Albright Jr. of California; three sisters; and four grandchildren, Shanda McCray, Leland McCray, David Robert Albright III and Robert Albright; and a great-grandson, Robert M. Albright. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Woodrow Morris at the home of his daughter, 371 Stuarts Draft Highway. Memorials may be made to the AHC Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939. Reynolds Funeral Service of Wayneboro will handle arrangements."

In 1940, she and her mother were living in Denver, and had apparently been living there in 1935 as well. She may be the Dorothy Shaeffer of Zachary, LA who is mentioned as one of the surviving daughters in the 1974 obituary of her mother.

Resided in Denver at time of World War I draft registration, mother's maiden name Brown. From New Jersey, About 5-6 children, Gruwell was adopted out.
Information on Find-a-Grave, not yet verified, indicates that Isaac had married previously, while still in New Jersey, to Jennie Florence Allen, b. 12 aug 1883 and d. Bridgeton, Cumberland Co., New Jersey 19 feb 1944, by whom he had two daughters, Anna Brown (b. 05 jun 1898 at Porchtown, Glouchester Co., New Jersey, d. 05 dec 1954 at Millville, Glouchester Co., New Jersey, m. Frank Cathcart Mingin 1887-1949), and Katherine Deborah (b. 20 nov 1901 at Iona, Glouchester Co., New Jersey, d. ?? sep 1983 at Villas, Cape May Co., New Jersey, m. Charles Lewis Albertson 1892-1953).
The next part of the story turned up in a newspaper divorce story in the Reading Times (Reading, Pennsylvania), 01 may 1908: "Husband Wants Divorce. The court granted a subpoena in the divorce suit of Isaac Albright vs. Pauline A. Albright. The couple were married in Reading on March 21, 1093. The libellant lives at 927 Spruce street and the respondent at 96 Ashmead street, Germantown, Philadelphia. Desertion on July 3, 1095, is alleged. Mr. Albright iin his application declares that his wife left him while they lived at Stowe. On the date referred to it is alleged that Mrs. Albright deserted her husband for the fourth time. The husband asserts that he provided a good home, but that his wife did not get along with his children by a former marriage, although they treated her kindly and that she drove the children away from home, and he rented another home to satisfy his wife, but she deserted him several times in spite of all his attempts to satisfy her."
There may be additional complications in the story, for there appear to have been at least two men of the same name, and possibly more. We can be sure of his birth date and that we have found the right Isaac (the one who lived in Denver) from the World War I draft registration record.
His marriage must not have lasted very long. By 03 jan 1942, "single and without dependents", and living in Imperial Co., California, he enlisted as a Private in the military for the duration of the war. James must have died before 1974, because he is not mentioned among his mother's living children in her obituary.
