In 1830 the enumerator just filled in the state (Kentucky), and in 1840 he left the page headers blank, so I'm really not sure what the enumeration districts are. _____________________________________________________________ This is the 1830 Federal Census for Hickman County, Kentucky ================================================================================================================================================================================================================== Comment # Page Column(s) Row(s) Comment ================================================================================================================================================================================================================== 1.1 1 15 23 There is a mark here that could be a 2, which would make all the totals correct, but it is very faint. 3.1 3 27 12, 13 The totals will add up to match census if each of these cells has a 1, but this column is too dark to read on the census, so I can't be sure. 6.1 6 14 Totals row 6.2 6 18 Totals row The census taker originally entered a 19 here, then corrected it to 18 6.3 6 Totals Column 5, 17, 19, 20 These are the totals entered by the census taker, but they appear to be innaccurate. 6.4 6 Totals Column Totals row The census taker originally entered 195 here, then corrected it to 191. 8.1 8 15 Totals row The total in column 15 is 16, but I only count 15. 8.2 8 Totals Column 19 The total in row 19 is an 8 on the census, but I only count 7. 9.1 9 All All Sheet 9 is faded and damaged, making it very difficut to read. My numbers do not add up to the totals given on census. 10.1 10 All All This page is divided into two groups: lines 1 through 14 are marked 'Columbus', lines 15 through 24 are marked 'Clinton'. 11.1 11 15 Totals row I count 17, but the census shows 18. 11.2 11 Totals Column Totals row The Totals row on the census adds up to 191, but the Totals column adds up to 190. 14.1 14 1 Totals row I only count 13. 14.2 14 Totals Column 25 There is a 1 on the census, but there don't appear to be any marks in any of the columns for this person. 16.1 16 31 Totals row There is a mark here on the census, but there are no marks in the column above, and it is not added to the total. 17.1 17 18 21 I'm guessing here, because there is a huge black mark on the census, but a 1 here makes all the numbers work. 17.2 17 25 Totals row This is smudged - it looks like a 3 that was marked out. There is only one mark in this column on the census, so I put a 1 here. 18.1 18 Totals Column 8 I count 21 for this row, but the census reads 20. 19.1 19 15 Totals row 22 Corrected to 21 on the census. 19.2 19 Totals Column Totals row 206 corrected to 204 on census. 20.1 20 Totals Column 2, 5 Both of these entries were originally 22 and corrected to 21 on census. Column 5 only adds up to 18, however, but see additional note for totals. 20.2 20 Totals Column Totals row The numbers would add up to match the census for both column 5 and row 10 if there were a three in column 5, but there is no mark there. 22.1 22 Totals Column Totals row 199 corrected to 192 on the census. 24.1 24 16 Totals row I only count 8. 24.2 24 Totals Column 16 I only count 5. 25.1 25 16 Totals row I count 10 25.2 25 Totals Column 20 I count 8 28.1 28 All All The edge of the reproduction of this page is too dark to read. Also, there are a couple of pieces of tape over the census that block much of the information in the Female Slaves columns. However, this information is given on the individual census pages. 28.1 28 All All Cells with an asterisk (*) appear to have a mark in them, but the mark is unreadable.
