JOHN CURRIE DOBIE

This is the death notice of John Currie Dobie, published in the Winnipeg Free Press, July 2, 1985:

Suddenly Sat. June 29, 1985 at St. Boniface Hospital, John Currie Dobie, husband of Hazel. John was born on February 27, 1910 in Thunder Bay, Ont. He received his B.A. Economic Dp PA at Queen's University. John had been employed as an economist most of his career with the Federal Government in Ottawa; the Provincial government in Winnipeg, and returned to Thunder Bay as Coordinator Continuing Education Business Development at Confederation College until retiring.

He will be missed by Hazel, son Brian Dobie, wife Jackie, daughter Jocelyn Desmoulin and husband Glenn. Grandchildren Andrew and Brandon; by his sister Jean Limbert in London. Cremation. A memorial service will be held in Thomson Funeral Chapel on Wednesday July 3. Rev. S. Miller officiating. Memorial donations to Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.

HAZEL ISABEL DOBIE / 1908-1997

Peacefully on Friday, November 28, 1997 Hazel passed away at the age of 89. Born on April 20, 1908, she was raised in Gladstone, Manitoba. Her love of learning led her to continue her education at the University of Manitoba. Accelerated in her schooling, she graduated at eighteen years of age with a B.A. in 1926. Her career began in Winnipeg, and led to her work with the Federal Government in Ottawa. There she married John Dobie in 1948. They later returned to Manitoba where Hazel taught high school for several years before retiring to raise her young family. Predeceased by her husband John in 1985, she is survived by her two children, Brian Dobie and wife Jackie of Winnipeg and Jocelyn Desmoulin and husband Glenn of Thunder Bay. She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren Caleigh, Scott, Brandon and Andrew. She will be fondly remembered by many as a strong, intelligent woman who loved life. Her greatest love was her children and their friends. We will miss her very much. The family extends special thanks to the wonderful staff at Beacon Hill Lodge where Hazel lived during the later years of her life. Hazel instilled her values of integrity and sincere friendship in those close to her. In keeping with her spirit, cremation and a private memorial service was held on Tuesday, December 2, 1997. The service was attended by her children, the Russell family and her "extended family" consisting of her children's high school friends. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Children's Wish Foundation, 350 St. Mary Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 3J2 may be made.
