MIDWAY CEMETERY

We found that there were four veterans buried here in This Cemetery. First to be buried there was William J. McGonigal Veteran of the Spanish American War. He was born about 1873 died 3 April 1913. John W Rogers a Confederate Veteran of the Civil War 1860_1865. He lived in the Taft Area for 4 years. Born 1845 died 4 March 1913, Colonel Edward Howard Wilson , Civil War Veteran of the Confederate Army in the Civil War. He was born 11 September 1840 Louisville Kentucky, died 19 May 1918 in South Taft.then there was A man Named Smith a Civil War Veteran he died before May 1917. These Four Veterans are buried in the Midway Cemetery 25 Hill. These records were found in the Hall of Records in Bakersfield Ca., And the Taft Undertaking Funeral Book here in Erickson and Brown Funeral Home as were all of our records was taken.

There is a Doctor buried there his name was Dr. J.J. Patterson of Fellows California. He Practiced Medicine for 25 years in Durango, Colorado. He was survived by a Daughter Mrs. C.O. Deacon of Taft, and a son J.D. Patterson of Taft Ca.

Then we have a Relative of our 13th President Millard Fillmore. His name was William Henry Fillmore born about 1846 could be a Veteran also. He lived in Santa Ynez California. Died 24 Feb 1919 in Taft Ca. He had Thirteen children. We found there a Mrs. E.I. Foust Of Fellows Ca. and a M.L. Fillmore also of Fellows Ca. and a daughter of San Luis Obispo Ca. William`s Wife Adeline died in 1919 and was buried in Union Cemetery in Bakersfield California. There is a living relative of William Henry Fillmore in Bakersfield California. She says that William was a Nephew of the thirteenth President Millard Fillmore.

There is a Queen of Vaudeville buried in this cemetery her Name was Sarina De Storey She played in the Story of The Street Of Cario In San Francisco before coming to Taft to Play in the Curnard Theatre She was born ca 1879 died in a local hospital here in Taft On 11 November 1915 and buried in Lot 353 section 2

There are 250 Babies that died in the Taft Area according to the Death Records and the Taft Undertaking Funeral Books. They stated That they died either Premature or Stillborn. The dates of these Babies are from 1911 to 1948.

There were 57 Babies from the age of one day to eight years that Died from various causes. Two were burned to Death in Maricopa. some by the Influenza Epidemic in this area.
