About the Sequoia Genealogical Society

What Is The Sequoia Genealogical Society?

The Sequoia Genealogical Society, Inc. is the major support organization for the Inez Hyde Collection in the Genealogical Room of the Tulare City Library. This library has one of the largest in-house genealogical collections in California's Central Valley. Some of its holdings include all U.S. censuses for 1850, 1860 and 1880 and all of California through 1920 on microfilm or CDs.

The library boasts over 6,000 books, 5,500 microfilms, 18,000 microfiche, and over 70 CDs. Nearly half of the microfilm collection is the Genealogy and Local History Collection of Microfilm Corp. of America, mostly for New England. In addition, the library houses the 16-volume set of the Confederate Compiled Service Records Index called The Roster of Confederate Soldiers 1861-1865, edited by James B. Hewlett.  Library patrons have access to the databases of Ancestry.com from computers inside the library.
