Mr. Eastland, a contractor from Saskatoon, had supervised the building of the school in 1935 or 36 on a piece of his land. It was so well built, that when it closed, it was moved to Nipawin where it was used as part of a government office building near the bridge.

The following is adapted from the text on the back of the photograph.

The ladies were holding tins or jars covered with cord for a binder, and then lathered with Plaster of Paris. The girls then stuck fancy buttons, pieces of old jewelry, etc onto the Plaster of Paris.

" Inez says she still has the jar she had made for her mother, Ida Kleven. Ida is the tall lady right in the middle in the back row." EZ

Addendum:

Here is what I learned from a quick on-line look at the Eldersely district history book, A salute to our pioneers : Clashmoor, Eldersley, Miner Creek and, in particular, the following schools" Miner Creek and Valecrest-

1.) The write-up of my father, Joy Kleven, where he talks about helping with the building of the first Miner Creek school.

2.) P. 65 to 73 in the same book- Miner Creek School (Great-grandfather John Ask - says Mr. Esk in book, a misspelling- was instrumental in Miner Creek area getting a school, as his grandchildren in the Lokken, Kleven, and Beck families were living up there) and Valecrest School.

Also Inez Kleven Page write-up, where she tells quite a bit about the Miner Creek and Valecrest Schools.

School Districts are written up in the book A salute to our pioneers : Clashmoor, Eldersley, Miner Creek.

There is a picture of the Mothers" Day tea event on p.70 of the book; same event as the picture I sent you (as shown above).

Before 1912, this school district number was alloted to the following school district in Alberta.
COLEMAN School District # 1216 Sec Tsp 8 Rge 5 W of the 5 Meridian

Note In the North West Territories the 1884 Territorial Ordinance #5 allowed for the formation of school districts. School Districts were given numbers in the order by which the areas applied for. This sorting by School District Number then gives an idea of the NWT early settlement patterns, and school house formation by year. When Saskatchewan and Alberta became provinces in 1905, numbers previously in use in Alberta were canceled and re-applied to School Districts of Saskatchewan. More information.

MILLFORD School District 4410 1921-1924 on the north east quarter of NE quarter of 33 42 15 W2 and remained until 1924 when the schoolhouse burned down. This school remained operated between 1927-1959

VALECREST School District # 5065 location notice:

The school district boundary location for VALECREST School District # 5065, SW 6-44-14 W2, 1934 - 1963 presents a mystery, as the dated map shown above depicts GOLBURN VALLEY School District # 1225 1905-1965 and SALOPIAN School District # 1216 1912-1957 NW Sec 22 Tsp 44 Rge 14 W of the 2 Meridian were located in the same area that Valecrest is recorded at in the local history book, "From Forest to Farmland". Allanville, Beech Grove, Golburn, Millford, Sylvania, Sylvania Rural, Valecrest, Willow Hill . GOLBURN VALLEY School District # 1225 and SALOPIAN School District # 1216 must have re-arranged their boundaries after the date of the above maps (1911) to accommodate the new Valecrest school as they all seem to be in operation at later dates. Also shown above is the map depicting the school district for LUCILE/ TISDALE 916 and township 44 range 15 W2. Township 44 range 15 W2 which indeed may also have sections included within the boundaries of VALECREST School District # 5065, as the schoolhouse was on section 6 township 44 range 14 W2. The location of Section 6 located in tsp 44 range 14 would be alongside tsp 44 range 15 and the school house buildings were centrally located to the children within the school district boundaries. In 1911 the above map shows no school district south of LUCILE/ TISDALE 916.

From the book: A salute to our pioneers : Clashmoor, Eldersley, Miner Creek

CLASHMOOR SCHOOL DISTRICT 4231 came together in the spring of 1919 and the school went up on the north east quarter of section 33 township 45 range 13. School began in 1920 and the school was sold in 1963 when it was no longer needed as classes ended in 1961.

ELDERSLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT 1784 residents met in the summer of 1906 to apply for a school district, and a voluntary school was provided in Crooked River. In 1907, another application went in, and ROUSSEAU SCHOOL DISTRICT 1784 commenced in 1908. Records indicate that the location was between sections 9 and 10 township 45, range 13. The school changed names to OSGOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT 1784 of the Northwest Territories. (Editor note, this is a peculiar name, as Saskatchewan became a province in 1905) iN 1909, a school was erected on the southwest corner of southwest quarter of section 10 township 45 range 13, this schoolhouse was taken by fire in January of 1917, to be replaced by a log house that same winter. That fall a new schoolhouse was built, and the log school building became an ice house. In 1921 the village name changed from Osgood to Eldersley, and so therefore the residents applied to change the school name to match. That summer of 1921, the OSGOOD school 1784 became ELDERSLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT 1784.

EVINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT 4687 opened the spring of 1927, and a new school was built in 1935. The last recorded teacher was for the 1957 school term.

MINER CREEK SCHOOL DISTRICT 5046 began schooling their children with correspondence lessons. In the winter of 1934, the community held a meeting regarding the formation of a school district and the school district incorporated that year under the name of MINER CREEK SCHOOL DISTRICT 5046 and the schoolhouse opened in the spring of 1935. MINER CREEK closed in 1961, and the students went to ELDERSLEY school.

VALECREST SCHOOL DISTRICT 5065 was built on the southwest corner of section 6 township 44 range 13 in 1934 and classes commenced in the winter of 1935. The school closed following the school year in 1963.
