WILLIAM JAMES YOUNG.
 

	A successful business man of Saskatoon is William James Young,
manager of the Mutual Life Insurance Company of Canada, who main-
tains well appointed offices in the Canadian Pacific Railroad building. He
was born in Stouffville, Ontario, on the 28th of November, 1875, a son of
James and Elizabeth (Campbell) Young, the former a native of Birm-
ingham, England, and the latter of the state of Pennsylvania, United
States of America. The father learned the brickmason's and plasterer's
trade in early life and successfully followed that line of work for many
years. Both he and Mrs. Young have passed away, the latter's death
occurring in 1913.
	In the pursuit of his education William James Young attended the
public schools of Ontario. After putting his textbooks aside he became
an apprentice to the printer's trade and followed newspaper work until
1915. In 1907 he was connected with the Neepawa (Manitoba) Press.
In the fall of that year he homesteaded some land in the province of
Saskatchewan, which he improved and operated with substantial success
for four years.  During that time he was active in community affairs
and had the satisfaction of seeing a schoolhouse built within, two miles
of his place. Mr. Young worked on the farm in the summer months and
during the winter was connected with a newspaper in Saskatoon. Sub-
sequently he sold the farm and remained on the Daily Capital at Saska-
toon until 1911. In that year he became manager of the Stationers &
Printers, Limited, of Saskatoon and he was active in that capacity until
the spring of 1915. He then entered the employ of the Mutual Life In-
surance Company of Canada and was a salesman for them until 1922,
when he became district manager for this branch of the company. He
is a business man of well proven ability and is discharging the manifold
duties of his important position in a manner to command the respect
of all.
	At Goderich, Ontario, on the 31st of December, 1906, Mr. Young
was married to Miss Christina Gundry, and they have one son: Elmer,
who is fourteen years of age. Since attaining his majority Mr. Young
has followed an independent course in politics, giving his support to the
man he thinks best fitted for the office without regard for party prin-
ciples. He has always taken an active interest in municipal affairs. Mr.
Young is second vice president of the Canadian Club and fraternally he
is identified with the Masons, having attained the Mystic Shrine, and
the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which lodge he is past grand.
He is an active member of the Saskatoon Club.  Since his connection
with the Underwriters, he has been a member of the executive committee
of the Dominion Association and he was secretary of the local association
for several years and is now president, which official position he has held
three years. Mr. Young is a firm believer in advertising and he conducted
a campaign in which a whole page in the Saskatoon papers was filled
the last Saturday of each month calling attention to the benefits of life
insurance.  The religious faith of Mr. Young is that of the Methodist
church and he has membership in Grace Methodist church of this city.
For several years he has been a member of the official board of the
church. Mr. Young is ~ self-made man in the truest sense of the word
and the success he has achieved is well merited. He employs the high-
est principles of honesty and integrity in the conduct of his business
affairs and is held in high confidence and esteem by all who know 
him.
