RICHARD A. MILLER.
Richard A. Miller, mayor of Rosetown, is also a representative busi- ness men, being proprietor of a gents' furnishing store. He was born at Goderich, Ontario, on the 9th of April, 1878, a son of W. R. and Mary Ellen (Courtice) Miller, also natives of that province. For many years the father was a teacher in a model school and later went into the insur- ance business which he followed the remainder of his life. His death occured in May, 1908. His widow survived him until January, 1914. The public schools of Goderich and Toronto, Ontario, afforded Rich- ard A. Miller his preliminary education and in due time he attended the Winnipeg Collegiate Institute. Upon the completion of his education he clerked for six years and in 1904 embarked in the general mercantile business in McAuley, Manitoba. He was thus engaged until 1913, when he came to Rosetown and established a gents' furnishings business, which he has since conducted. He also operates a general mercantile store in Harris, Saskatchewan, in partnership with his brother, E. R. Miller, un- der the name of R. A. Miller. Mr. Miller is also interested in agriculture and has extensive farming interests in this district. He has shown him- self to be a man of resourceful ability and his unabating energy and keen discrimination have won for him success. In February, 1904, Mr. Miller was married to Miss Janet C. Todd of St. Helens, Ontario, and to them two children have been born: Donalda Courtice who was born on the 14th of March, 1908; and William David, born in April, 1909. In his political views Mr. Miller is a Liberal and he maintains an active interest in civic affairs and has always been a helpful and cooperant factor in public advancement. He was a member of the city council for four years and in 1923 was made mayor of Rose- town, and is one of the most efficient chief executives this town has ever had. Mr. Miller is a member of the Presbyterian church, in which he is an elder and he has been superintendent of the Sunday school for sev- eral years. Bibliography follows:
