Cree Chiefs- Battle of Loon Lake-
June, 1885
The Battle of Loon Lake concluded the
1885 Rebellion
Hiding peacefully, the Metis not
prepared for ammunition!
Small numbers, short supplies, now in a
poor position…
A Metis peacemaker advanced and was
shot on mission.
Metis hid in dug outs while others saw
futility in motion.
Metis fled, Wandering Spirit
surrendered, no emotion.
Big Bear left undetected until the July
2, 1885 demotion.
No troops lost- Metis loss heavy in
this battle not chosen.
The Battle of Loon Lake marked the end
of Metis Resistance
Years later the government took a
backward glance.
Canadian hearts knew the devastation
inflicted in advance
-Recognition to those who dared to take
a strong stance.
