Chief Poundmaker – 1826-1886
A tall, commanding presence he had
His long black braids so regally clad
Violence of the day was not his way
He knew negotiation would pay.
Poundmaker was a strong wise chief
“Stoical in-difference,”
replaced grief
Adversity accepted, solutions created
A full measure of respect now stated.
He and Big Bear treated prisoners well
-Later Chiefs, old and sick living in
hell?!
Violence not wanted, say history
records
Too sick; they were let go to die
sordid.
They are remembered with admiration,
Heard and understood by a proud Nation.
Their spirits are now resting in peace
Bishop Tache prayed for Chiefs
released.
