HEWSON - Robert Ramsay Hewson, Silton, Sask., went home to his maker on the morning of July 26th, 2006, at the age of 92, at Ivy's Care Home, Earl Grey Sask. Rob attended Silton school, and began to forge a very special place in his community with his willingness to always help a neighbour. His skills at fixing clocks and watches, small motors and modifying farm machinery to his standards of excellence, was complemented by his love of all in nature, especially many songbirds that knew his farm was a safe haven. Rob also loved music, playing the violin at a younger age, and restoring an old family pump organ to sweet harmony. Rob took over the farm, settled in 1910, and with caring and knowledge nurtured it into a viable, yet peaceful place. His community services included monetary gifts to needy neighbors and reorganizing Silton cemetary where his ashes will rest after cremation. A private memorial service will be held at the gravesite later on. Those who wish to honor Rob's life may donate to the Wildlife Federation of Canada, or Ducks Unlimited as Rob requested. Rob is survived by four immediate family members, Tom and Bill Watson of Nanaimo. Sylvia Watson Keen of Calgary AB., and Dorothy Watson Wilson of Victoria BC. HILL - Laura Clara (nee Anderson) Hill 1916 - 2008. The final chapter of Laura's life drew to a peaceful close on Thursday, September 4, 2008 in Stensrud Lodge, Saskatoon, SK. Laura was born into the pioneer family of Mary Kerr (Hunter) and Burpee James Anderson at home near Silton, SK, the youngest of their ten children, Benwick, Tom, Newt, Roy, Jennie, Jim, Margaret, Mary and Wilhelmina. Only Wilhelmina (Billie/Mina) has survived Laura. Laura received her education in Silton and Regina. In 1936, after graduating from Regina Business College, she experienced the hardship of forging a career during the Depression. With persistence and determination Laura found work with Royal Bank branches in several southern Saskatchewan and Vancouver branches. Between 1947 1957, Laura was employed as bookkeeper and payroll clerk for various West Coast lumber and shipping companies. She was known for keeping impeccable and accurate records. In 1950 Laura married Jack Hill. Their careers led them to California and when they retired they chose to reside in Ventura. Here they enjoyed the climate and their many friends in the community of Ranchero Ventura. After Jack's death in 1994 Laura decided to return to her prairie roots. She resided at Primrose Chateau, Saskatoon, enjoying new friendships and a happy social life. Unfortunately, health concerns made independent living impossible so Laura became a resident at Stensrud Lodge. The caring compassionate staff cannot be thanked enough. It takes special people to bring joy, laughter and comfort to those in distress. Laura loved music and dancing, sunshine and flowers, friends and neighborhood dogs, Christmas and car trips, yellow roses and the colour red. She leaves behind to honour her memory her sister, Billie, in Ontario; sister and brother in law, Joyce and Hannes Vidal of Saskatoon; sixteen nieces and nephews and their families; and dear friends, Jack and MaryAnn Anderson, and Marjorie Willems, of Saskatoon, and Bob and Melba Phillips of California.
