ALBERT - Denis Joseph age 77, of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at the Regina General Hospital. His parents Frank Sr. and Elizabeth Albert, brothers Ernie, Frank Jr. and Steve, and sister Mary predeceased him. His loving wife of 48 years, Marjorie, daughters Tammy and Lori, grandchildren Brandon and Kiarra, great-grandson Colby, sisters Julia, Eve, Clara and Jenn, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and cherished friends survive him. Denis was born to Frank Sr. and Elizabeth Albert April 8, 1938, south of Quinton, SK. After taking a shot at farming, he built a career as a mechanic for 24 years until moving to Regina in 1987. There, he ventured at caretaking a senior's high-rise for the Regina Housing Authority and retired in 2000. In celebration of Denis' life, a Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 20, 2015, at the Punnichy Community Hall, 609-6th Ave (across from the Punnichy High School), Punnichy, SK, with Francis Nagy officiating and Interment to follow at the Punnichy Cemetery. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Doctors and Staff of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the Regina General Hospital for all the compassion and care received. BAAN - Gordon. On Tuesday, November 25, 2003 Gordon Baan passed away suddenly. Survived by his wife, Cheryl; three sons, Gerrit (Rayna Gunvaldsen), Christopher (Suzanne Beaucamp), and Bryan; Gordon's mother, Hilda Baan; two sisters, Deanna (John Matai) Hachkewich, Lucille (Willie) Sentes and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, November 28, 2003 at St. Albert the Great R.C. Church, Punnichy, Sask. with Pastor Bob Leeson officiating. BAAN - Harry. On Thursday, October 5, 2000 Harry Baan, late of Punnichy, Sask., passed away at the age of 93 years. Arrangements are in the care of LEE FUNERAL HOME. BAAN - Hilda Martha (nee Limbach) Baan passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the age of 89. She is predeceased by her husband, Harry Baan; parents, Karl and Carolina Limbach; son, Gordon Baan; sister, Minnie DeYong; brother, Carl Limbach and son-in-law, Ernie Hachkewich. Hilda is survived by her loving family, daughters, Deanna (John) Matai and Lucille (Willie) Sentes; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Baan; 13 grand children and 23 great grand children; sisters, Clara Johnston and Esther (Kurt) Hengstler, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Raymore United Church, Raymore, SK with Maryann Grand officiating. Interment will follow the luncheon in Punnichy Cemetery, Punnichy, Sask. BEAL - Laura Matilda (nee Tady). After a short, sudden illness at the age of 86, Laura Matilda Beal passed away peacefully on February 1, 2009, at the Prince George Regional Hospital. A long-time resident of the Saskatoon area, she moved to BC to live with her daughter Linda and her family after losing her husband of 55 years, Percival "Buster", in January 2008. Laura grew up on her family farm near Punnichy, SK in a family of three. Her relationship to her remaining brother Fred was important to her until her passing day. As a schoolteacher, she taught in numerous schools within Saskatchewan. An example of her incredible memory for detail was the way she would remember prior students' birthdays over sixty years later. She enjoyed working in a craft store for the year prior to settling into the role of farmer's wife and homemaker in 1952. She was never afraid of hard work or of trying something new. More than anything else in her life, Laura was dedicated to her family. She invested all of her love into her family, and the dividends of that love were beyond measure. She was always patient, gentle, and steady, and her common sense and level-headed approach to life was always reassuring to those around her. She especially enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, canning, handiwork, crafting, and reading (later by audio). Though reduced eyesight and a walker marked her later years, she always maintained a positive disposition and had a smile for everyone she met. These traits, along with her willingness to accept whatever life brought without complaint, will remain an inspiration to her family and friends. It is impossible to put into words how much she will be missed and what a void she already leaves in our lives. We already have stories we want to share with her. We know we will always speak of her with smiles and miss her with tears. She was a remarkable woman. She leaves behind her two daughters, Linda (Mike) and Judy; as well as three grandchildren, Michael, Katerina, and Steven Liss. She is also survived by her brother, Fred Tady and her sister-in-law, Kathleen Beal. Besides her husband, Laura is preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Fred Tady; and her sister, Gladys. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 6, at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, officiated by Rev. Donna Wilson. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. BELLEROSE - Lorne James, April 1936 - Dec 2003. It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of a dear husband, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Lorne James Bellerose at the age of 67 years. Lorne was born on April 2, 1936 in Punnichy, SK., to Joe and Annabel Bellerose (nee McNab). Lorne is survived by his loving wife Gladys; his brothers George Bellerose and Mike (Glenda) McNab; his three sisters Bernice Desjarlais (Richard), Vera Bellerose and Olive (Louis) Vandale. His sisters-in-law Sophie Nowicki, Margaret Kitsch, Sandra Piche (Denis), Elizabeth Gray; his brotherin-law, Albert Sass (Lynne) and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Lorne was predeceased by his beloved parents, his sister Eileen and brother Howard. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 2, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in Sacred Heart R.C. BELLEROSE - Michael Leonard it is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mike, late of Punnichy Sask. on December 28, 2006 at the age of 56 years. Mike leaves to cherish his memory his loving children - Reg, Brad, Max & Sherry and his grandchildren, and neices and nephews. Mike will be lovingly remembered by his companion Irene and his two sisters Linda & Janice. Mike also will be remembered and cherished by his aunts and cousins from B.C. - Aunty Alma, Joyce, Margaret, Adele and Theresa. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Anne Bellerose and his daughter Alisa Bellerose. Mike was a talented man. His influences and wisdom will be missed but never forgotten. His spirit lives on in which we will be forever positively touched by his all too short presence in all our lives. Mike is remembered by all who knew him as a quiet, caring, loyal and reliable man, a good man and he will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. He was a man of catholic interest ranging from auto body work, mechanics, horses, sports and good food just to mention a few. Family life for him was limited but important to him. The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Mary Queen of Hearts Church in Lestock Sask. on January 31, 2006. Prayers at 7 p.m. on Saturday January 30, 2006. Michael was cremated and his remains will be inferred at a later date. BENCZE - Annie passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 4, 2001 with her family by her side. She was born March 3, 1917 in Lestock, SK. Annie was predeceased by her husband Peter in 1979, by her parents George and Gizzela Lendvoy; her brothers George, Michael, Vincent, her sisters Helen Benko, Elsie Grosse and Mary Levy. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters Celena Ulledal of Kelowna, BC, Viola (Lavern) Voldeng of Saskatoon, SK and Barb (Tom) Labas of Saskatoon, SK and their families; sister Velma Kosa of Raymore, SK and brother Alex (Margaret) Lendvoy of Regina, SK, nieces and nephews and all of her special friends whose hearts she touched. Annie was a warm, kind and generous soul to everyone she met. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of the Raymore Silver Heights Special Care Home for their care and friendship for Annie. BENKO - Matthew "Max" of Punnichy, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2005 at the age of 74 years. BENKO - Mary Katheleen (nee Tuttosi), of Silver Heights Special Care Home, Raymore, Sask, formerly of Punnichy, Sask, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the age of 94. Predeceased by her husband Anton; parents, John and Helen Tuttosi; brothers, John, Steve, George and Tony; and sisters, Rose and Elizabeth, Mary is survived by her daughter Mary (Fernie) Senft; her son George (Marlene) Benko; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and her sister Theresa. A private funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Tompkins Funeral Home, Wadena, Sask., at 1 p.m. followed by a graveside service at the Punnichy Cemetery at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2011. BENKO - Steve Peter passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at Luther Special Care Home, Saskatoon, SK. at the age of 90 years. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Anne; son Albert (Jean) of Punnichy; daughters Elaine (Stanley) Angielski, Linda Ritchie (special friend Pat) of Saskatoon; grandchildren, Todd (Susan), Aaron (Janice), Troy (Kelly) Benko, Shawn (Jennifer) Ritchie, Andrea (Shawn) Colborn; great grandchildren Ryan, Anna, Kaitlyn, Colette and Jillian Benko. He is also survived by one brother John Benko of Terrace Bay, Ont; one sister Margaret Bugyi of Southey, SK and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Martin and Mary Benko, 5 brothers and 8 sisters, and son-in-law Eugene Ritchie. In 1914, Steve was born the twelfth child of fifteen, in the Cupar District. He married Anne Jakabffy in 1938 and settled in Punnichy where he farmed and they operated a general store. In 1995, they moved to Saskatoon where they made their home to the present time. Steve was a caring and gentle husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who had a great love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, cross-country skiing and curling in his earlier years. He will be sorrowfully missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. We love you very much and may you rest in peace. The family wishes to thank Dr. J. Yelland and Staff at Luther for their special care and attention given to Steve during his stay in the home. BENTZ - Joseph August, born August 15, 1935, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2005, with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 69. He was predeceased by his mother Martha, father Philip, sister Katherine, father-in-law Steve Bulka Sr., brother-in-law Herman Schultz, sister-in-law Josie Bentz. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Albert Church in Punnichy SK with Fr. Peter Thang Nguyen celebrant. Interment to follow at Punnichy Cemetery. BENTZ - Philip B. On Sunday, March 21, 2004, Philip Bentz of Raymore (formerly of Punnichy) passed away peacefully in the Lestock hospital at the age of 86 years. Predeceased by his wife Martha in 1996; a daughter, Katherine Horvath in 1961; a daughter-in-law, Josie Bentz in 1998; a son-in-law, Tom Levar in 1999; four brothers and three sisters. Survived by two sons, Joe (Mary) of Punnichy and George (Mary Jane Dornstauder) of Leross; three daughters, Helen (John) Senft of Punnichy, Phyllis Levar (Gary Horn) of Coquitlam, B.C. and Hilda (Ron) Stagg of Winnipeg, MB.; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Flora of Raymore, Ida (Bob) of Calgary and Jacqueline (Joe) of Moose Jaw; one brother-in-law, Jack Schlosser; numerous nieces and nephews, and many good friends. Peter Thong Nguyen, Celebrant. Interment to follow in Punnichy Cemetery. BERETI - Rosie Ann Bereti passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014 in the Pasqua Hospital at the age of 89 years. She is predeceased by her parents Louis and Rose Bereti, four sisters, and eight brothers. Rosie will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, and friends. Rosie was born on the family farm in the Arbury District (near Cupar) on January 10, 1925. She later moved to Punnichy, SK where she lived until moving to the Cupar Nursing Home in 2000. Rosie enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and being with people. She was always a very positive person who would brighten everyone's day. BEYER - Barbara Joan (nee Wiltshire) Beyer, Fillmore, Sk formerly of Punnichy On Monday, June 25, 2012, mom peacefully left us to be reunited with dad, Fritz Beyer, her siblings, brother Stanley (Eveleen) Wiltshire, sisters Betty (Douglas) Mahoney, Josephine (Henry) Green, Patricia (John) Soroka, brother-in-law (Hans) Jennie Beyer, and sister-in-law (Freda) John Schoen. Mom was born in England on October 19, 1915. She immigrated to Canada in 1928 with her parents George and Mary Wiltshire and her three sisters. Her brother Stanley stayed in England. They settled in Maidstone. Later mom took a job in Punnichy and married dad. She is survived by her three children Lawrence (Mae) Beyer and Family (Punnichy), Betty (Steve) Hovind and Family (Fillmore), Joseph (Sherry) Beyer and Family (Balgonie). Special thanks to Dr. Gibbons and staff for the excellent care given to her during residence at the Fillmore Health Center. BLISS - Dorothy Irene (nee Brown) passed away at the Weyburn Special Care Home on November 25, 2010 at 93 years of age. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Sydney and Annie Brown, her husband George, her son Georgie, and her two brothers, Hector and Roger. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Brown of Saskatoon, her nephew, Sidney (Marsha) Brown of Saskatoon, and two nieces, Sylvia Bartz of Nanaimo, BC, and Eleanor (Wally) Beck of Calgary, AB. Dorothy was born on May 13, 1917 at Watrous to Sydney and Annie Brown, the youngest of three children. Her mother died when she was three years old. Two years later, in 1922, her father moved the family to Punnichy, SK. When her father died in 1939 Dorothy remained at home taking care of the household for her two brothers, Hector and Roger. She worked as a domestic for families in the area, at the Punnichy hotel and restaurant and in the Gordon Indian School. She also took in boarders to supplement her income. After the house was sold Dorothy moved to Regina for awhile. Dorothy moved back to Punnichy and on November 17, 1944 she married George Bliss. Their son, Georgie, was born in 1946. In 1951 they moved to Regina where Dorothy worked at McGavin�s Bakery. In 1953, George and Dorothy moved to Weyburn. Dorothy worked in a hotel and various restaurants: Town 'n' Country, El Rancho, and Malley�s Gold Tone. She spent many years working for Jack and Jean Hulbert and Dan and Elsie Lindskog. Dorothy would also cook for farmers during harvest season. Dorothy liked anything to do with creation, flowers and animals. She loved music, played the piano and was a band member in Weyburn for many years. She liked to sew by hand and always had a project on the go. Dorothy enjoyed company and was particularly fond of children. She had a deep love for the Bible and enjoyed sharing spiritual truths with others. In 1992, Dorothy dedicated her life to God and served as one of Jehovah�s Witnesses to the time of her death. Interment was held on Monday November 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. A service of remembrance for Dorothy was held on Monday, November 29 at 2:00 p.m. from Kingdom Hall of Jehovah�s Witnesses, Weyburn with Mr. Arnold Kozak, officiating. BROWN - Mary Phyllis Betty (nee Jones) August 26, 1914 - January 5, 2012. Betty Brown of Punnichy, SK passed away at age 97 in Saskatoon on January 5, 2012. Betty is survived by her children, Sylvia Bartz, Eleanor (Wally) Beck and Sidney (Marsha) Brown; grandchildren, Wendy Jones, Chris Beck, Dena Beck, Rebecca (Mike) Lees and Matthew (Jalynn) Brown; great grandchildren, Kyler Powney, Carson Lees, Autumn and Easton Brown. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Mary Jones; her husband of 60 years, S. Hector Brown; brother, Clayton Jones; sister, Kathleen Forsberg; brother-in-law, Roger Brown; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Bliss. Betty was born and raised in Raymore, SK. She completed her schooling in Semans, SK, winning the Governor General's award in Grade 12. She met Hector in the late 30's and they married in 1940. They took over the telephone office in Punnichy and ran it together, 24 hours a day for 27 years. Her greatest joys in life were family, church and community. She was a devoted wife and took great pride in the accomplishments of her children. Over the years she served in many capacities on numerous community boards and committees including Brownies, 4-H, History Book, Luthi House and the museum. She served St. David's Anglican Church faithfully for 40 years and lived her faith. Many, many people in the Punnichy district were recipients of her kindness when ill or in need. She was a kind and gentle lady with a strong spirit, and was an inspiration to the end. A Service will be held in Punnichy in Spring 2012. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross in her memory. The family would like to sincerely thank the Luther Special Care Home nursing and support staff for the excellent care Betty received while she was living in their facility. Her final words to family members were If I live another day, a week or a month, I've had a good life. BUGRY - Clara Anita (nee Degenstein) passed away on Wednesday July 19, 2006 at the Extendicare Sunset Home in Regina. Clara was born December 1, 1926 in Punnichy, SK. Clara was predeceased by her parents Elizabeth and Jacob Degenstein, her 6 brothers Alex, Frank, Joe, John, Art, Tim and 4 sisters Caroline, Lena, Rose and Ella. Clara is survived by her husband of 54 years William (Bill) Bugry of Extendicare/Sunset, son Gerald, daughter Sheila Sentes and grandsons, Dwayne and Brent all of Regina. She is also survived many sister and brother-in-law's and numerous nieces and nephews. Clara and Bill lived in Punnichy and later moved to Regina. Memorial with interment of ashes will take place at a later date at the Punnichy Cemetery. BUGRY - Gerald. After having Multiple Sclerosis for an extended period of time, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre in Regina. Gerald was born June 12, 1953 in Punnichy, SK. Gerald is predeceased by his parents Clara and William (Bill) Bugry. Gerald is survived by his sister Sheila Sentes and nephews Dwayne and Brent. Gerald will be missed by his many friends at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre where he spent the last 17 years. A memorial service will be held in the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Chapel at 2180-23rd Ave, Regina SK on Wednesday, November 19th at 1:00 pm. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date at Punnichy. BUGRY - William "Bill" passed away on Monday, July 24, 2006 at the Extendicare/ Sunset Home in Regina. Bill was predeceased by his parents Mary and Mike, his wife Clara of 54 years, and one brother Steve. Bill is survived by his son Gerald, daughter Sheila Sentes and grandsons Dwayne and Brent all of Regina, his brother Ray of Calgary, and four sisters, Anne, Lee, Nel and Julie all of Ontario. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Bill was born on May 1, 1922 in Poland. At an early age he immigrated with his brother Steve and mother to the Punnichy area, where his father had immigrated to a few years prior. In the early 40's he worked in a gold mine at Pickle Lake Ontario and after a couple years returned to Punnichy to farm. Later on, Bill started work as a butcher in Punnichy and continued for several years. After this he explored some business opportunities before he settled into his insurance business in Punnichy in the mid 70's where he also served as a Justice of Peace for nearly 20 years. He and his wife Clara later moved to their home in Regina. A memorial service will be held for Bill and Clara at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Chapel, at 2180 23rd Ave., Regina, Sk. on Friday, July 28, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. Interment of ashes will be held Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Punnichy Cemetery. CHUDYK - Andrew (August 19, 1933 - June 25, 2013). Following a courageous battle with cancer, Andrew Chudyk of Punnichy, SK, passed away at the age of 79. Andrew is predeceased by his parents, Onufrey and Mary Chudyk, his brother Mike Chudyk and brothers-in-law Peter Wasyluk, Fred Yewsuk, Leslie Kajati and Joe Kajati. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, son Dean (Debbie), his brother John (Jean) Chudyk , sister Emily Wasyluk as well as his sister-in-laws, Helen (George) Bratushesky, Mary Yewsuk, Elizabeth Kajati and numerous nieces and nephews. Andrew was born in Masefield, SK and early in his life he moved with his parents to the Punnichy area. Raised on the homestead, hard work and farming was Andrew's passion and he never left the farm life to venture in any other direction. On May 18, 1957 he married Margaret and the two of them ran a successful mixed farming operation. Andrew quickly grew his cattle stock to be one of the largest herds in the area. As much as the cows were a headache to Andrew, they were also his pride and joy. Andrew's stubbornness usually prevailed over that of the cattle. He raised cattle his whole farming career and in February 2013, with great difficulty, he sold off his cattle. Andrew will be forever missed by his family and friends. Those that knew him well will miss the strong, colourful character we have loved over the years. We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother at the age of 100 years. Helen Dobra passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, July 17, 2011. She was born in Arbury, Saskatchewan on November 9, 1910. Helen was predeceased by her husband Nicholas Dobra; her parents Constantine and Mary (Laslo) Pascu; stepfather Dan Cuciran; brothers, Constantine, George and John Pascu; stepbrothers, Phillip and Bill Cuciran; sisters Anne Zaremba, Jean Johnson and Rosella Anderson; and granddaughter Deanna Stolz. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her children, George (Anna) Dobra, Doreen (George) Fefchuck, Marlene (George) Paranuik and Geraldine (Larry) Krienke; 10 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; and 5 great-greatgrandchildren; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Helen moved to the Kayville district with her parents in 1911. In 1931 she married Nicholas Dobra and together they farmed in the Kayville area for over 60 years. After Nicholas' passing in November 1990, Helen continued to live in her home until age 91 at which time she made her home with her daughter Doreen and son-in-law George. In 2008 Helen moved to Parkside Extendicare and resided there until her passing. Motivated by her compassion to help others, she graduated in 1969 as a registered nurse from the Saskatoon City Hospital. Marlene married Ken Forden August 19, 1972 and together they farmed and raised a family near Punnichy, SK. She worked as a RN at the Lestock Hospital until 1986 when she was diagnosed with Mutliple Sclerosis. Not one to let things stop her, Marlene showed her strength, courage and zest for life in the way she dealt with all of the changes that she experienced due to MS. She was an individual known for her sense of humour, keen wit, amazing mind and love for numbers. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. The family expresses a thank you to the staff at the Parkridge Centre and the numerous homecare providers over the years. In 1976 they sold the farm and moved to Punnichy where she continued to work and retired from the North American Lumber Yard where she had become their first female manager. Sally was an active member of the community and always a helping hand to all that needed. She will be deeply missed. He was always meticulous in everything he encountered and his family came first and foremost. His family was his life and he always wanted and provided the best for them. GWYNN - Mary Emily, passed away on December 19, 2003 at the age of 90. Mary is predeceased by her parents, Jim and Maude Gwynn, and her brother Henry. She is survived by her brother Bill (Mildred), her sister-in-law Ivy, her nieces and nephews, Judy Gwynn, Heather (John) Lavoie, Jill (Les) Toth, Jim (Judy) Gwynn, Deborah Gwynn, along with four great nephews, Todd, Rob, Brad and Brett and one great niece, Jennifer. Mary was born in Punichy, Sask. on Feb. 9, 1913. She graduated from Punnichy high School and went on to further her education in Regina. Upon completion of her secretarial course, she worked in Regina and mainly in Ottawa, where she was private secretary to Jules Castonguay (Chief Electoral Officer for Canada). Mary was a very active member in the United Church and was on the board and sang in the choir of Knox Metropolitan United Church in Regina. She enjoyed music, supporting and attending the symphony wherever she resided. She also enjoyed travelling and cruises and went on European and North American tours. Mary dearly loved her family and many happy times were spent on "Monument Hill" in Punnichy with her nieces, nephew and neighborhood children. With sadness, the family of our beloved Bill announces his passing at Extendicare Nursing Home on December 22, 2010. Bill is dearly loved and remembered by his wife of 66 years, Mildred; daughters Judy Gwynn and Heather Lavoie; son Jim (Judy) Gwynn and grandchildren Rob and Jennifer Lavoie and Brett Gwynn. He is also survived by many extended family members. Dad was born and raised in Punnichy, Sask. After graduating from Grade 12, he worked in his father's general store. When the war broke out in 1939, Dad joined the Air Force and was a Flying Officer based in Alberta and Manitoba. When the war ended he returned to Punnichy where he bought the store from his Dad and where he and Mom made their home and raised their children. Dad was always involved in the community being on local school, church and town boards. Mom and Dad sold the store in 1977 and moved to Nanton, Alberta where Dad sold life insurance for several years. After nineteen years in Nanton, their final move was to Saskatoon in 1996 to be closer to family. A lengthy illness has claimed the life of Edward Hart, a pioneer of the Punnichy District. Born on the family farm 14 January, 1913, Ed attended Punnichy School until the age of 14, at which time he bagan his farming career. He married Pearl Derry in 1934 and after spending a year at the Church of Mazarene Bible school in Red Deer, Alberta, they returned to the farm where they raised five children. Contributing to the community through participation in agricultural and educational organizations, Ed was also recognized for his involvement in leadership training, conservation and preservation of local and regional history. Ed's health seriously declined after the loss of Pearl in May 2001 and he has spent the past four years in Golden Acres at Wynyard where he passed away on Thursday October 5, 2006. Left to mourn his loss are Elwood (Betty); Mervyn (Bev); Jim (Alice); Margaret and Bob; as well as twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Born to Roy and Jessie Derry on May 30, 1914 in the Bankend District, Pearl went to work in Punnichy where she met and married Ed Hart on November 5, 1934. To this union were born four sons: Elwood (Betty), Mervyn (Beverley), Jim (Alice), Bob; and one daughter, Margaret Korchinski. Survived by her husband and children, two sisters Edna Meakes and Stella Curtis, twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and son-in-law Emil Korchinski. HITCHINGS - Diane Hitchings was born June 20, 1943 and passed away at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, Sk, on May 8, 2016 after a brief illness. Diane grew up in Punnichy, Sk and at the age of 17 suffered an illness that left her paralyzed from the waist down. As a result she spent the next 55 years in a wheelchair. Upon her parents' retirement in 1976, the family moved to Abbotsford, BC, so that Diane could get around more easily. She met Morris Greer (also in a wheelchair) and they became a couple. There were constantly on the go, as Morris drove them all around the lower mainland and into the USA. After Morris passed in 2014, Diane move to Riverside Terrace in Saskatoon to be closer to her brothers. Diane was predeceased by her parents Norman and Peggy Hitchings. She leaves to mourn her brothers: Barry (Shelia) and children, Chad (Tricia) and family (Kevin) Kaleigh and Leisha (Dustin), Kevin (Lesa) and daughters Sara and Danielle, Tracy (Bill Peris) and son Michael, and Trevor (Krista Hartman) and sons Sunny and Will; and Terry (Dawn) and daughters Ashley (Scott) Kraley and sons Connor and Lucas, and Courtney (Brad) Schlosser and son Dylan. Joe was born in Punnichy SK, on March 19th,1935, where he attended school until grade 6. His family moved to Cloverdale B.C. where he attended school till grade 9, then back to Marigold school in Punnichy for grade 10, Campion College in Regina for Grade 11 and to Cupar for his graduating year. Joe started out his employment years at Buckwolds in Saskatoon. Next he moved to Uranium City where he worked in the mines. He moved back to Regina to work for SaskPower installing gas lines. It was at this time he purchased a new Studebaker which he used in courting Mardel. They were married October 6, 1962. On August 16,1965, Joe joined the Regina City Police Force, where he worked until 1976 when he and Mardel moved to Edgeworth to become full time farmers. Joe and Mardel were foster parents for 27 years and Joe drove the school bus for over 20 years. Joe and Mardel sold the farm in 1995 and they moved to Ogema. He kept some cattle and pasture that he loved to work away at until he sold the pasture in 2007. Joe was a member of the Ogema Golf Club and looked forward to Monday Night Golf, a member of the Ogema Seniors where he loved to play crib, whist or just do a little visiting, and also a member of the St. Lukes Lutheran Church and choir. Joe was a generous and caring man always available to help anyone out when they needed a hand. Joe loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed his grandchildren immensely. He loved to talk about his family and would often boast about his 100 first cousins. His family extends a sincere thank you to the staff at the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital and the staff at the Wascana Grace Hospice for their compassionate care and support. JASPER - Hattie Lucille (nee Beug). Hattie passed away peacefully on June 10, 2004 surrounded by loved ones. Hattie was predeceased by her loving husband George E. Jasper in 1986. She is survived by three children, Karen Ellis (Vern), Barry Noiles (Billie) of Calgary and Robert Noiles (Toby) of Livermore, California; three grandchildren, Twyla Ellis (Calgary), and Chelsi & Natasha Noiles (Livermore, California); her sister Beatrice (Fred) of Regina, SK (nee Beug) and numerous nieces and nephews. Hattie was born in Saskatoon, SK on July 24, 1924 to Max and Hedwig Beug. She grew up in Punnichy, SK where her family farmed then moved to Regina, SK. Hattie worked most of her life in the oil and gas industry, working for General Petroleums Drilling Ltd., which became one of the Westburne Group of Companies, where she retired as an executive assistant in 1983. She was a member of the Desk & Derrick Club of Calgary for over 20 years. Hattie was a very "positive person " with a happy outlook on life all of the time. She had a wonderful "wit " about her, endearing her to many friends. She will be fondly remembered for her smile and sparkling personality despite her battle with a brain tumour for 33 years. JEAL - Marion Jessie (nee Roberts) passed from this life late Saturday evening, November 29, 2003, while a resident at Circle Drive Special Care Home. Her passing ended a valiant struggle with cancer and allowed her entrance into the presence of the Lord, whom she has loved and sought to serve for many years. She was born in a log house in the Wishart district on the homestead of her parents, John and Laura Roberts, February 8, 1909. She had a happy childhood, growing up with her four sisters on the family farm and attending country schools in the district. She attended Normal School in Saskatoon in 1926 at the young age of seventeen. She married Stanley Jeal in 1932 and they began a happy marriage that lasted until Stanley's death in 1991. They had 59 happy years together, 43 of them on their lovely Hillside location on the edge of Punnichy. This is where their children, Keith and Joyce grew up. After Keith and Joyce were grown and left home, Marion upgraded her teaching status and then returned to the career she loved so dearly and taught school until her retirement in 1975. She was a great lover of music. She played the piano, sang with her four sisters, her daughter, Joyce and she sang solos. Her great love of music led her to take violin lessions when she was 60 years old. She had a long, rich and full life. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Laura Roberts; her beloved husband, Stanley; her four sisters, Madeline (Carl Runyan), Doris, Florence (Clifford Hall) and Mildred and a great-grandson, Jared Benjamin Barker. JONCAS - Jean Irene (nee Lewis). On Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the age of 94, Jean Irene Joncas was peacefully released from the arms of her family into the arms of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Jean was born in Punnichy on September 3, 1920 where she graduated from grade 12, later moving to Regina to complete Business College. During WWII, she worked at the War Plant before enlisting in the RCAF, Women�s Division stationed in Toronto. After the war, Jean married Philip Joncas in 1945 and started a family which was her lifelong dream. They moved to their home on Charles Crescent where Jean happily spent the remainder of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and was a mother to many children on the Crescent. For 35 years she taught Sunday School at Rosemont Church of God and was an active member in her congregation. Until her later years, she loved and cared for her pet cats, enjoyed baking squares, doing arts and crafts and various forms of painting. Jean worked at Old Age Pension and volunteered at Wascana Veterans Ward. She always looked forward to visits with family, friends and special niece Jackie Lewis. Jean was predeceased by husband Philip; parents Robert and Rose Lewis; brothers Ed and John; and sisters Alice, Anne, Helen and Ada. She is survived by her children Robert Joncas, Irene Behrmann and her dedicated caregiver and advocate Chuck Joncas; grandson Brock Joncas, nephew Don Karpan; and nieces Eileen Dawe, Janet Hickey and Jackie Lewis. Bill was born in Punichy, Sask. on August 7, 1924. He farmed near Lanigan, moved to Saskatoon and later moved to Vancouver. He is lovingly remembered by his family in British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Bill leaves behind four children Nancy Meyer, Cathy Rosenthal, Grant Kachur and Gwen Bull; and six grandchildren Joseph Rosenthal, Jackie Dengler and Brittany, John, James and Christina Bull. Bill will be remembered for his caring about his family, his beliefs about social justice and caring for others less fortunate. Bill had a passion for politics, opera and letter writing. On July 14, 2012, Joe Kajati, of Punnichy, SK, passed away at the age of 80. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Julianna and Gabriel Kajati as well as his brother, Leslie Kajati. He is survived by his children, Darrel (Debbie) Kajati, their children, Alyssia, Kelsey and Alison, and daughter Cindy (Greg) Bugyi, their children Jared (Chris Weber), Nevin, Ashtyn and Travis, sisters Helen (George) Bratushesky, Mary Yewsuk, Elizabeth Kajati and Margaret (Andrew) Chudyk and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was born in Coalhurst, Alberta and moved with his family to Punnichy where his parents farmed in the Kutawa district. As a young adult, Joe's early career was farming and operating JD Construction, a land clearing business. Years later as the land clearing business was slowing down, he took a job as a mechanic and worked for several years for Larsen and Richmond in Punnichy. After a few years in the auto repair environment he became concerned about his health and took on the job of caretaker at Punnichy High School where he worked for 26 years until his retirement. Joe welcomed the company of family and friends who came to visit him in his home. The chip bowl and candy dishes were always full. Joe had many interests and passions. He enjoyed watching ball games, coaching in his early years and also followed the Blue Jays faithfully. Joe kept active by cutting grass at the town cemetery and school grounds and working as a town councilor and as a Co-op board member. Family was very special to him and he wanted to ensure that his children and grandchildren were doing well and would insist on helping out wherever he could. Our dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend will be sorely missed. The family wishes to thank the many health care professionals, not limited to but including Dr. Abdulhadi, the many caring and dedicated nurses at the hemodialysis and the Allan Blair Clinic. Predeceased by her husband Peter of 50 years; parents Robert and Rose Lewis; brothers Edwin and John; sisters Alice (in infancy), Anne Isbister and Helen Faulkner. She was first a homemaker, but also sold Avon, worked at the Post Office and Foster's Store for a number of years. Ada was a member of the vestry at St. John's Anglican Church where she also taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and became a lifetime member of the ACW. Following Peter's death, she moved to Saskatoon in 1997 and remained active with church, friends and as a volunteer at Sylvan Learning Center. In 2004 she relocated to Regina to be closer to family and continued to make new friends, socializing, playing cards and enjoying most sporting events on TV. KELEMAN - Fred (November 28, 1927 - August 2, 2015). The family of Fred Keleman, late of Punnichy, SK., sadly announce his passing after a short illness. He was previously deceased by his parents, John and Kathleen, two infant sisters, Elaine and Katie, his brother-in-law Jack Graham, his niece Gayle Keleman, nephew Myrol Keleman, his oldest brother Frank and spouse Melba. Born in a farmhouse in Arbury District, Fred moved with his parents to a farm in Kutawa District in 1930. He went to school in Kutawa until he was needed to work on the farm. Fred enjoyed working in the fields, making and hauling hay bales, seeding and harvesting many bushels of grain during his long farm life. He especially loved caring for cattle and was a hard working man until his retirement in 2012. Although he never married, Fred was much loved by his nieces and nephews, he always had a candy for them and a knee to bounce on. He enjoyed golfing and curling until his age prevented those activities. He loved watching hockey and had statistics on every game for years! Fred had a remarkable memory, he could give the date and year of birth for every one of his nieces and nephews. He was a kind hearted man who gave generously to various charities. It is with profound sadness that family announce the sudden passing of Lorne Larson, their wonderful husband and father. Lorne was born in Lestock, Sask. on December 6, 1945. He grew up in Punnichy until he started university, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from the U of S. Lorne married Vera on August 1, 1969 and they moved to Vancouver, B.C., where he entered the College of Law at UBC. He was called to the B.C. Bar in 1973. Soon after the birth of their first daughter, Erika, Lorne and Vera returned to Saskatoon where he joined the McKercher McKercher & Whitmore law firm. He became a Partner in 1977 and remained with the firm until his passing. Lorne will be missed to the highest degree by his loving wife, Vera, and their daughters: Erika (Greg) Kornak, Regan (and special friend Jay Winters), Courtney, and Stephanie. He will also be greatly missed by his mother, Eileen Larson; his sisters; Alva (Vern) Leibel, and Vonda (Larry) Moleski; his in-laws Florence and Alex McRobert; his sister-in-law Brenda (Tom) Lawton; and nieces and nephews. LINDEBURGH - Donald Alexander. We are sad to announce that Don passed away quietly on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 after a brief illness. He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Erna; sons Bruce and Craig (Helen) and daughter Marcia; and grandchildren Chelsea, Brett and Levi. He was predeceased by his father Frank, mother Sarah and brother Barton. Also left to mourn are his sister Grace; sisters-in-law Ferne and Ruth; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Don was born June 10, 1932 in Punnichy, SK where he was raised and resided for over 70 years until moving into Regina in 2005. He did many things in his life from being a farmer; to being a school bus driver to being involved in vehicle and implement sales. His love of softball took him from umpiring to coaching to being an avid fan of the local team. Don's humor and smile were second to none and did not leave him until his dying days. His love of old time music took him to many fiddle festivals and at small get-togethers everyone enjoyed it when he brought out his fiddle, the spoons and the cookie sheet. LINDEBURGH - Erna Olga (1933 - 2015). We are sad to announce that Erna passed away October 21, 2015. Surviving her are her three children Bruce, Craig and Marcia; her sister Ruth; brother Albert; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Donald and parents Adolph and Beate. Erna was born on February 11, 1933 on the family homestead near Tate. Shortly thereafter, they moved north of Nokomis where the family resided. She helped out with the family farm doing anything and everything that was asked of her. After her schooling, she attended university in Saskatoon and attained her teaching degree. She then found a teaching position in Perryville in the one room school house and there she met her soon to be husband Donald. After getting married, they resided on the Lindeburgh homestead where they raised their three children and ran the family farm. In 1966, mom resumed her teaching profession in Punnichy until her retirement in 1989. She was a wonderful teacher and always had stories about her students that touched her greatly. After retiring, Don and her enjoyed travelling which included seeing their grandchildren, fiddle fests, antique auctions and Jackpot Nevada. Card playing with friends was a big part of her pastime which usually lasted into the wee hours of the morning. Her love of Bingo cannot be forgotten. In 2005, they moved from the family home in Punnichy into Regina where she resided until March 2014 when she was diagnosed with Dementia. She resided in Parkside Extendicare home from April 2014 until her passing. Even with her Dementia she most often than not had a smile on her face that embraced all of the staff. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather and friend, Harold Lloyd. Dad passed away peacefully at Pioneer Village on October 27, 2003 at the age of 82 with his family by his side. Harold is predeceased by his son Harold George in infancy, his parents George and Elizabeth Lloyd, brother Robert and sisters Dorothy and Betty. Harold will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Rose, daughters Jorie (Ray) Kutcher, Margaret (Les) Matts, Lolly (Rick) Hicks, Donna (Brent) Machuk and son Michael (Susan) Lloyd, as well as his sister Alice Willison. He will be greatly missed by his twelve grandchildren Christine, Kyla, Nolan, Jason, Carla, Doug, Amanda, Kerry, Nicolas, Victor, Jessica and Jeremy, and four great-grandchildren Keely, Emily, Aby and Sammy and his faithful dog Scrappy. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews and relatives in England with fond memories. Harold was born in Archydal, SK on April 24, 1921. He lived in Moose Jaw for fourteen years, then later moved to Punnichy with his family where he attended Lakewood Vale School. He had to quit school to help his parents on the farm. Harold met Rose in 1941 and they were married on May 12, 1943 and farmed in the community for five years. They then moved to Regina where Harold worked at the Regina Hotel and Army & Navy. A few years later, Harold obtained his Journeymen Electrician's papers and worked at Robert Simpsons for 31 years. He took early retirement and enjoyed golfing, fishing, golfing, travelling, golfing, being at the cottage, golfing and especially spending time with his family and golfing. Dad had a very dry sense of humor and had a smart comment about everything to everyone. He enjoyed laughing and making people laugh. MARKLAND - Frieda (nee Bratushesky), age 91, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Parkland Place, Melfort, SK. Frieda was born on July 8, 1924, in the Punnichy area, the third of ten children born to Hans and Julia Bratushesky. As a young woman, employment took Frieda to west central Saskatchewan. Frieda married John Markland on April 10, 1945 in Biggar. They worked for Charlie Richards in the Ruthilda area for a year, and then they purchased a homestead just outside of the town of Ruthilda. They called Ruthilda home, farming and raising a family there until 1975. During this time five children were born to them: Julie (1946), Alvena (1947), Janet (1948), Dwight (1956) and Irene (1957). In 1975, Frieda and John moved into Saskatoon for one year, while they considered retirement. During that year Frieda joined the Saskatoon Horticultural Society and enjoyed classes and spending time at the Public Library. In 1976 they decided they had had enough of retirement, purchased land in the Melfort area and relocated there. Together with Dwight, they farmed there until John's passing in 1991. Frieda became very involved in the Vaughn Community Club, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Presbyterian Church and made many wonderful new friendships. Everyone who came to know Frieda soon knew of her love of gardening and nature. She particularly loved birds and could identify any bird by hearing its song. She especially enjoyed sharing this passion with her grandchildren. Frieda continued to live on the farm, gardening, making meals and staying busy with volunteer work until her move in 2013 to Nirvana Assisted Living Care Home and in 2015 to Parkland Place. Frieda was predeceased by her parents Hans and Julia Bratushesky; brothers, Adolf, Albert, Walter and Wilfred; husband John (1991); son-in-law Hugh McLaren (1991) and daughter Janet (2013). Mike served in the army from 1942 to 1945, after being discharged he worked at a logging camp in northern Ontario for 1 year. He liked fishing and spending time at the lake , but his greatest joy was spending time with his family especially his Grandchildren. MUZICHUK - Frederick passed away peacefully on December 28, 2005 at the Saskatoon Convalescent Home at the age of 91 years. Fred was born July 12, 1914 in Ukraine to a family of 10. In 1929, they immigrated to Canada and farmed north of Punnichy, SK. Fred started grade one at the age of 15 and continued his education through Teachers' College to a B.Ed. His teaching career spanned 39 years in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Upon retiring, he lived in Punnichy until 2000 when he moved to Ilarion Residence in Saskatoon. Fred enjoyed singing, reading, touring the world, friends, camping, fishing, gardening and watching his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs and Sask Roughriders. He is survived by his sister Nina Smith, nephews, nieces and cousins in Canada and Ukraine, scores of friends and hundreds of former students. Arthur passed away peacefully at Wynyard following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Victoria; daughter Joanne (William Shrubsole) and granddaughters Lindsey Shrubsole and Caitlin Shrubsole; brother Orest Mysak (Mary), sister-in-law Bernie Mysak (Walter) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents John and Elizabeth Mysak, brothers Walter and Steve Mysak and sister Olga Ball. Arthur was loved and respected by all he knew. He greeted all warmly with a smile. He farmed in the Perryville district all his life and operated a business in Punnichy and Raymore for ten years. He served on the Board of Directors for Punnichy Co-op, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, Round Plain Community Telephone Company and was a supporter of Cooperative Implement Services. He was recently honoured for these commitments through invitation to participate in the Punnichy 100 year celebration parade. He was proud of the area and its historical prominence. An avid antique collector, he restored many pieces and placed them in historical remembrance. Art's passion for the land and agriculture made him a leader in farming practices in the area. He maintained awareness of current affairs and the potential impact on rural and agricultural life. He was one of the first in the area to incorporate diversified farming practices and new crop varieties. He mentored many newer farmers in innovative farming practices and equipment advances. He was proud of their successes. His passion inspired many of the nieces and nephews that visited the farm, often a stay of a few days evolved in return trips on summer holidays for extended time. Arthur valued education while he taught many about farming he always encouraged all to develop, use and achieve their potential no matter their life choice. Arthur's generous spirit was shared with all. He helped neighbours and friends with anything he could harvesting, seeding, road clearing. He had a passion for life, strong values and respect for all, be they family, neighbours or international hunters. He will be lovingly missed by family and friends. Funeral arrangements in care of Tompkins Funeral Home, Wadena. NORDIN - Carl Ludvig, of Silver Heights Care Home, Raymore, SK., passed away on Friday, July 6th, 2007 at the grand age of 101 years. Lud, as he was known, was born on April 21st, 1906 in Stockholm, SK. The Nordin family then moved to Esterhazy, SK., where Lud spent his early years. Four boys (Edwin, Ludvig, Oscar and Alfred) and four girls (Ella, Annie, Mary and Linda) were born to the Nordin family. When the children were still quite young, the family moved once more, first briefly to the Kutawa District and finally to the family farm about 9 miles north of Punnichy, SK. It was there that Edwin, the eldest son, passed away as a result of a farm accident and Linda the youngest daughter became a victim of the flu of 1918-1919. Lud, who now became the eldest son, was left with the responsibility of caring for his younger siblings and his ailing father and mother. For the next 50 years Lud engaged in mixed grain and cattle farming. In 1969 the family farm house was completely destroyed by fire and it was then that Lud, his brother Alfred, and his sister Mary moved into the village of Punnichy. There Lud remained until he briefly hospitalized in the fall of 2000. Upon his release from hospital he became a resident of the Silver Heights Care Home in Raymore. Here he remained until his passing on July 6th, 2007. As well as being predeceased by Edwin, his eldest brother and Linda, his youngest sister, Lud was also predeceased by his father Jonas Peter, in the early 1940's, by his mother Hannah Elizabeth in 1956, Alfred passed away in 1984, Annie in 1988, Mary and Oscar in 1989, Ella in 1995, sister-in-law Dorothy in 2002 and a niece, Joyce Hipkin in 1989. After farming for many years at Punnichy, SK, Mom and Dad retired to Moose Jaw. Mom was an outgoing person who made many friends in Moose Jaw. There were special friends from the Lynbrook Golf Course - 9 Hole Senior Ladies. Mom was also an avid curling fan, scrabble and card player. She enjoyed spending time with people and always had a friendly word and warm smile for everyone. Mother loved her family and friends dearly and will be greatly missed by all of us. REYNOLDS - Herbert Ernest, aged 81 years of Moose Jaw and formerly of Punnichy, Saskatchewan passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2001. On Sunday, January 28, 2001, James Riddel, late of Silver Heights Special Care Home, Raymore, passed away in his 80th year. James was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Elizabeth (Bell) Riddel, one sister in infancy, and his wife of 25 years, Jean Riddel, in 1987. Jim leaves to remember and cherish his memory his twin brother, John, his stepchildren Beth (Ron) DeYoung, Edna (Al) Nordin, and Jim (Vi) Hampton; grandchildren Larry (Shelly) Flowers, Sheryl (Allan) Brabant, Phil (Tara) Nordin, Dan (Lisa) Nordin, Paul Hampton, Nola (Craig) Skaros, as well as six great grandchildren and three nieces and nephews. Jim was born and raised on the farm at Punnichy. He served his country with distinction during World War II and then returned to the farm. He married Jean Hampton in 1962. In 1984 Jim and Jean retired from farming and moved into Punnichy. In 1987, after Jean's death, Jim chose to return to active farming, a lifestyle that he found fulfilling and enriching, until the mid-1990's. John, beloved grandpa, father, brother and uncle passed away peacefully on March 26, 2013 in the Silver Heights care home in Raymore, SK. at the age of 92. Alice was born on May 6, 1909 in the Athlone District near Foam Lake, SK and grew up on a farm near West Bend, SK. She married Wilfred Russell in 1937. The majority of their married life was spent in the Perryville District where she held a keen interest in the local education system both as a Board Member and a Trustee. When they retired to Punnichy in 1972 she was instrumental in helping to establish the Punnichy Senior's Centre in addition to being the President of the Centre for many years. She was also President of the Punnichy History Book Committee and was an active member of the Punnichy UCW. Alice spent the last two years as a resident of the Shalom-Cupar and District Nursing Home in Cupar, SK. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff at Shalom. SCRIVENER - Mildred Beatrice "Millie" (nee McDaniel) passed away peacefully June 4, 2002 aged 79 at the Kelowna General Hospital, Kelowna, BC. Born in Punnichy, SK, September 14, 1922, the first of two daughters and three sons to loving parents Muriel and Bj McDaniel. She moved with her family to Regina in 1926. There she met and married her husband Douglas Alfred Scrivener, a handsome Naval Lieutenant. In June of 1946 their only child, Maureen was born. In 1973 Doug and Millie moved to Vancouver, where she resided, after Doug's death in 1980, to be with his parents Rose and Horace. After their death, she moved to Kelowna in 1990. She was a petite woman of great poise and dignity with an uncanny witty sense of humour. Predeceased by her husband, Douglas; sisters-in-laws Doreen, Gwen and Betty; brother-in-law Harold; nephew Brent and sister Babe. She is survived by her three brothers Bernard, Frank and Maury McDaniel and a large extended family of McDaniels', Scriveners' and Whincups'. Her immediate family surviving are her daughter Maureen and son-in-law Donald and loving friend and only grandson Bayne. She will be greatly missed by all family and many friends. SEBASTIAN - Alex, October 24, 1919 - December 20, 2007, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 88 years. Alex was born to Frank Sebastian and Zenobia Benko on a farm near Punnichy. Alex was called to serve in the Army during the war years. It was during this time he returned home briefly to marry Elizabeth Kuhar on July 5th, 1943, wife of over 64 years. They returned east and made their first home in Truro, Nova Scotia, where their first daughter, Margaret, was born. They moved back to Punnichy, SK where they started mixed farming and raised their family of one son and five daughters. Alex took pride in his farming skills and kept his machinery and vehicles shiny and clean. Alex enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, putting on fireworks displays, giving wagon rides, and attending all their special occasions. Alex and Eliz enjoyed several warm holidays in the south during the cold winters. He retired from farming and moved to Saskatoon in 1996 where they enjoyed condo living and new friends. SEBASTIAN - Eva (nee Santha) July 25, 1917 March 19, 2011. Eva passed away March 19, 2011 in the presence of her loving family. SMITH - Jack, age 80 years of Saskatoon, SK passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2002. He leaves many precious memories for his family. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nina; daughters Kathy Siemens (Duane) and Joan Beisel (Ed); very special grandchildren Jamie and Jackie Siemens and Megan and Andrew Beisel; brother Frank (Eldeen); brother-in-law Fred Muzichuk; and numerous nieces and nephews. His son Allan predeceased him. Jack was born on June 23, 1921 in Wolverhampton, England. He came to Canada in 1928 and lived on a farm at Shaunavon, SK with his parents Charles Ernest and Claribel Smith and brothers Ronald, Frank and Joe. He enjoyed softball and was the pitcher for the All Stars. As a young man, Jack worked as hired help for various farmers, but took time off to be in the army reserve during the war. He worked at a lumber camp in Ontario and in a mine in Kimberly, BC. He married Nina Muzichuk in 1947 and they moved to Punnichy, SK in 1950. Jack worked in the Co-op Lumber/Hardware store for several years. In 1984, while visiting his cousins in Australia, Jack had a heart attack and a successful 5-bypass surgery was performed. The years of farming, however, continued to take their toll and he and Nina decided to sell the farm and move to Saskatoon in 1993. Jack enjoyed making new friends and was a neighbor to all, helping and sharing his tools and expertise with those around him. When the family purchased a cabin at Mistusinne, Jack enjoyed the time spent there, repairing items and making new gadgets. Those who received articles from his shop will remember his skill with wood. He was a quiet man with a heart of gold and will be missed by all that knew him. SMITH - Nina (nee Muzichuk) October 1, 1924 - December 6, 2010. Nina passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She is predeceased by her husband, Jack (2002) and infant son, Allan (1957), as well as her parents, Ivan and Oksenia Muzichuk, birth mother, Sophia and her siblings, Varka, Malashka, Nadia, John, Dennis, Pete, Fred, Harry and Valentina. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Duane) Siemens and Joan (Ed) Beisel; her grandchildren, Jamie and Jackie Siemens, Megan and Andy Beisel; sister-in-law Nadia; and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Ukraine. Nina was born in Selets, Ukraine in 1924, the youngest child in a family of 10. In 1929, she crossed the Atlantic on the SS Luthiania with her parents and 4 brothers to arrive at Pier 21 in Halifax. Arriving in Punnichy by train, Nina's family bought a farm and started their new lives. Nina went to school at Perryville, where she learned to speak English and developed a life-long love of learning. She was very musical and loved to sing and play her guitar. Nina went to Normal School in Moose Jaw and got her teaching certificate. Over the next 46 years, she taught at rural one-room schools at Powermine (Shaunavon), Edgebrook (Punnichy), Hagen (Outram), and Kutawa (Punnichy), as well as the towns of Chaplin and Punnichy. The achievements of her kids always excited her! During her posting near Shaunavon, she met the love of her life, Jack Smith. They married in 1947, moved to Punnichy and had three children: Kathy, Allan and Joan. Nina loved to garden and was an active partner with the farm work, while continuing to teach. In 1962, she volunteered to help with the Punnichy Brownie group and a new lifepath was initiated. In her 40+ years of active service with the Girl Guides of Canada, Nina volunteered countless hours leading the youth of Saskatchewan in song and camping expertise. She visited all the Guide Houses in the world and counted every Girl Guide that she met as a friend. Nina's love of travel took her to 29 countries and back to Ukraine twice to visit family. After moving with Jack to Saskatoon in 1993, Nina joined numerous choral groups and expanded her list of friends once again. Orpheus 60, Dibrova Ukrainian Folk Ensemble, Western Development Museum Boomtown Singers, St. Mark's Choir, Trefoil Guild, Superannuated Teachers' Choir, Songsters, Outcasts all groups benefited from Nina's strong soprano voice and avid participation. In the past few years, she took great joy in performing for the residents of Keedwell Assisted Living Centre. Nina loved her family deeply and was rarely absent from family events. With sadness the family of Josephine Straker announces her passing on September 13 with family at her side at Silver Heights Special Care Home in Raymore. Born and raised in the Krasne District near Wynyard, Josephine was the eighth in a family of 14 children. She married Harold Straker in August 1941. They began their married life in Punnichy and were blessed with two children: Glen and Pat. After living in Regina for a few years they moved back to Punnichy in the mid-1960s and farmed and lived there until just recently. Josephine's life centered around her home and family. Her home was always spotless, her garden immaculate and abundant, and the freezer always full of baking. She loved family gatherings, which always included lively games of cards. Watching sports on TV - especially Rider games - crocheting and walking were some of her other interests. Josephine's life took an about-turn six years ago when she suddenly lost her sight and her world was plunged into darkness. After an enormous adjustment, she accepted her fate with dignity and grace and tried to retain as much independence as she was able. Her courage has been an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Josephine is survived by Harold, her husband of 71 years; son Glen (Bev); daughter Pat (George Hogberg); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen and Alice; brothers, Carl and Steve; and numerous nieces and nephews. Our beloved mother Elizabeth died peacefully at Shalom with family at her side on June 26, 2009. Mom was born at Othon, SK, Nov. 19, 1919. She was predeceased by her husband Ben (1986); her parents Paul and Alice; siblings Steve, Mary and Helen; brothers-in-law Leo, Dick, and Robert; & son-in-law Frank Albert (2005). She leaves to mourn her passing and the celebration of her life her siblings Louis (Julia), Julia & sister-in-law Helen; her children Gloria (Al) Karpa of Indian Head, Shirley Albert, Linda (Ivan) Donovel, Edith (Darrell) Barrett of Regina, Randy (Brenda) of Quinton, and Dolores (Mario) Sabbadin of Vernon, BC; her cherished and precious 16 grandchildren and their spouses who spent many holidays with grandma and grandpa at the farm; and her 30 treasured great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Mom worked very hard to provide for her children, sewing, growing a huge garden, canning, and all the chores that came with farming, but always had time for her beloved flowers and birds. On Thursday, August 11, 2005, Anton Frank Tuttosi, late of Punnichy, passed away at the age of 76 years. Predeceased by his wife, Wilma, Anton is survived by his children: Brian of Regina, Marilyn (Ray) of Regina, Doug of Edmonton, Ron (Sharlyn) of Regina, Lori (Wes) of Calgary, Dean (Brenda) of Regina; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, John of Punnichy; and one sister, Mary of Raymore. A private graveside service will be held. TUTTOSI - Cecille (nee Webb) passed away peacefully April 26, 2015 at the age of 78 years. Predeceased by husband Steve, brothers Charlie and Tedd and her parents. She is survived by daughter Patti (Joe) Kuhar, grandchildren Chris, Evan and Katie. Service will be held at Punnichy Community Hall on Monday May 4, 2015 at 10:00 with luncheon to follow. Private family interment. TUTTOSI - John Jr. (June 21, 1918 - May 28, 2010). On Friday, May 28, 2010, John Tuttosi Jr., Punnichy, SK., died in the All Nations Healing Hospital, Fort Qu'Appelle, SK., at the age of 91 years. John spent his entire life on the farm south of Punnichy where he loved to be very much. He always enjoyed company and a good visit. He loved animals and enjoyed caring for them. John was predeceased by his parents John and Helen Tuttosi; brothers Tony, George and Steve; sisters Rose and Elizabeth. He is survived by his sisters Mary (Raymore) and Theresa (Hamilton) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of the All Nations Healing Hospital for the kindness and care they provided for John. A graveside service will be held in the Punnichy Cemetery on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Reymundo officiating. TUTTOSI - Margaret "Midge". On Sunday, November 5, 2006, Midge was reunited at the gates of Heaven with her "daddy" George Tuttosi, following a courageous battle with cancer. Midge was born on May 21, 1952 in Regina, SK and raised in Punnichy and Regina. She attended Miller High School in Regina. She had many hobbies, which included: rug hooking, embroidery, reading, bingo, playing cards, puzzles and listening to music. She participated in many sports like bowling, curling and baseball. Midge loved spending time with her faithful friends Lynda, Misty, Jan, and being Nana to Tristan whom she loved and cherished as if her own grandson. Midge had many wonderful friends who were her extended family. Midge worked for SaskTel for 31 years. She was also a volunteer for the Telephone Pioneers, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Red Cross (she donated 104 units of blood), Canada Summer Games, MS Walkathon for 7 years, Pioneer Walkathon for 10 years and she worked bingos for several different associations, plus much more. Midge was a very giving person and would give you the shirt off her back. She always had a smile on her face and could make anyone smile at her corny jokes. Midge is survived by her mother Emma Tuttosi of Leduc, AB; sister Michelle (Tuttosi) Vollhoffer of Calgary, AB; brother Bill Tuttosi of Alexander, MB; half brothers and sisters Dean, Tammy, Kevin, Darrell, Pam Thompson and numerous aunts, uncles as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Friday, November 10, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. TUTTOSI - Stephen "Steve" Ernest of Punnichy, Sask. passed away at the Regina General Hospital on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at the age of 80 years. Steve was predeceased by his parents, John and Helen Tuttosi, his sisters Rose and Elizabeth; his brother George; his first wife Joan. He leaves to mourn his wife, Cecille (Webb) of Punnichy; son Dennis and his children Tim and Dale; daughters, Brenda (Albert) Harvey; Marlene (Fred) Cardinal and their children Amy and Jamie; Patti (Joe) Kuhar and their children Chris, Evan and Katelyn; sisters Mary and Theresa, brothers John and Tony, nieces, nephews and friends. (nee Anderson) of Punnichy, Sask, passed away peacefully at Regina General Hospital surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the age of 98 years. She was born in Dilke, Sask. April 28, 1916. Thelma was predeceased by her parents, Otto and Clara Anderson; her sisters Olivia (Hutchinson), Barbara (Charles), Mathilda (Charles), Edna (Smith), and Agnes (Hitcherick); and her brothers Otto and Clarence. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert; children Tracy (Hamel), Trevor, and Teresa; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. There is no funeral but a memorial service to celebrate Thelma's life will be held at a later date, in the spring, when she will be interred with her parents at the Dilke Cemetery. WALTER - Mary (nee Nemeth). On February 23, 1913 Mary Nemeth was born to Stefan George and Martha (nee Siska) Nemeth, in the district of Magyar, a Hungarian Settlement established about a decade earlier, located in the MacDonald hills south of Lestock. No doctor was present. The family moved to Hemet, California where her dad worked as a machinist for the Railroad. Mom was ten years old at the time and did not speak English. In her first year of school there, she learned the language and in the four years they lived there, she made it to her 8th grade. The family moved back to Sask. to the Punnichy area in or around 1926, to a half section of land her father acquired before they left for California. Mom's formal education seems to have ended on the family's return to Canada. Later she met and married John Walter from the Ravensberg area on June 10, 1928. They continued to live in the area where most of their children were born and raised. They moved to an acreage east of Punnichy below Monument Hill in 1958 where they remained until 1975, when they retired into Punnichy. John passed away Nov. 3 of the same year. Mom remained in her home until the fall of 2005, when she moved to the Care Home in Cupar. She then was transferred to Silver Heights Care Home in Raymore March 31st 2006, where she remained until her passing on January 22, 2008 at the age of 94. Mom is survived by one brother, Joe Nemeth, three sisters, Martha Johnson, Betty Huntley and Helen Hallack. Two sister-in-Iaws, Christina and Dorothy. She is survived by 9 of her 10 children, Adolph(Muriel), Constance(nee Mason), Steve(Margaret), John(lrene), Lenore(Ray), Amold(Lynda), Richard(Becky), Greg(Shirley), Karen(nee Walter). She is also survived by 36 Grandchildren. 64 Greatgrandchildren and 10 Great Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Stephan and Martha Nemeth, three brothers Steve, John and Wendell and one sister. One sister-inlaw Minnie. Her husband John. Her Son Harry in 1995 and three GreatGrandchildren and her son-in-law Charles Mason in 2006. The First Vigil Service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2008 at 7:30 P.M. at St. Albert the Great Church in Punnichy, SK. The Mass of Christian Burial Celebration of her life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Albert the Great Church, with Rev Peter Thang Nguyen, Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Punnichy Cemetery. WIEBE - Katherine (nee Nemeth) February 14, 1933 - December 9, 2012. Kay passed away, surrounded by her five loving children, at the age of 79. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob "Jake"; parents, Andrew and Katherine Nemeth; brother Andrew; and sister, Rose. She is survived by her brother, Joe (Marion) Nemeth; and her five children, Darrell (Dulcie) Marleau, Charlene (Ken) Derksen, Alan (Zelia) Marleau, Blaine (Sherry) Marleau, Glen (Sandra) Marleau. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Candice, Melissa, Ric, Kristin, Ken, Nicole, Richelle, Zach, Clara, and her two great-grandsons, Brody and Everett, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Kay was born in Punnichy, SK the third of four children. She was close to all her family throughout her lifetime. Family was of paramount importance to her. She frequently hosted and entertained them at the family gatherings. Kay was a giving, generous person who perpetuated kindness in her daily life. She was a great host, and was a great cook of old country cuisine, with her cabbage rolls and bread topping the list. Kay was an avid sports fan especially golf and hockey. She was talented at various sports and activities which included golf, curling, bowling, playing cards (especially bridge). Kay's golfing attributes included not one but two hole-in-one's, as well as winning the second and fourth flights of the Lobstick golf tournament in Waskesiu, SK. She enjoyed dancing, singing, playing accordion, and loved music of any kind. Family sing-a-longs were a favourite pastime during the family get-togethers. Kay lived a full and happy life, encouraging others, sharing her infectious laughter, having enormous support from her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and may God bless her kind spirit, which she instilled in her family and others throughout her life. In lieu of flowers or donations in her memory feel free to "Pay It Forward" (by helping someone in need). A Celebration of Kay's Life will be held in her memory at a later date. WILLIER - Justin Willier (1992 - 2010). Justin's family is saddened to announce his sudden passing on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the young age of 18 years. May he watch over his family and friends...until we meet again. WILYMAN - Pearl (nee Nelson), born June 29, 1927, passed away suddenly September 16, 2002. Left to fondly cherish her memory are her loving husband Raymond; children Gary, Carol Kroeskamp and Dean (Carol); grandchildren Travis, Heidi, Brady, Kristi, Tina and Joely; great grandson, Rein; brother David (Ethel), sister Nellie, brother-in-law Lawrence (Anne), sisters-in-law Irene Straker and Evelyn Benson; many nieces, nephews and special friends. Pearl was predeceased by her parents Albert and Rose, father-in-law Charlie and mother-in-law Sarah Edith, brothers Howard and Clifford, sister Ruby and infant son Terry. Pearl was born on the family farm south of Wynyard and attended East Lynn, Evelyne and Wynyard High Schools. After graduating high school she attended Normal School in Saskatoon for four months and became a teacher. She took her first teaching position north east of Hudson Bay, followed by Grandy Perryville and then Punnichy where she retired in 1984 after 33 years of teaching. Pearl was a very dedicated, caring, passionate and creative teacher who helped shape the lives of many students. Pearl was a very gentle, sensitive and loving mother and grandmother. She found great joy in things said, mannerisms and reactions of "little ones". She loved her garden, flowers and plants, and her yard. She enjoyed curling, bowling, golf and was an exceptional homemaker & cook. Always willing to volunteer and help out. She was actively involved with the Legion Ladies Auxillary, Lestock Hospital Auxillary, and the Senior's Curling Club. She was an energetic, tireless worker & volunteer. She had a great sense of humor and a rarely matched zest for life. A Memorial Service will be held at the St. Albert Roman Catholic Church in Punnichy, SK at 1:00 PM on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002. WILYMAN - Raymond (January 26, 1922 - February 15, 2014). Surrounded by family, Raymond Wilyman passed away peacefully on February 15, 2014. He is survived by his children Gary, Carol and Dean (Carol), son in law Rob; grandchildren Travis, Heidi (Shaun), Brady, Kristi (Ben), Tina and Joely; great granddaughter Jacobi; sisters in law Anne Wilyman and Ethel Nelson; special companion Pauline Benko and her family and many special relatives and friends. Raymond was predeceased by his wife Pearl; infant son Terry; his parents Charles and Edith; siblings Irene (Jim) Straker, Lawrence Wilyman, Evelyn Benson; Pearl�s siblings David Nelson, Howard (Irene) Nelson, Ruby Lovell, and Nellie (Mike) Samoleski. A service of Remembrance will be held Sunday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the Punnichy Town Hall. WINSLADE - Violet (nee Hart) passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 29th 2006 aged 97. Violet lived and worked for most of her busy life in Punnichy, tending the sick, both in people's homes and, later, in the Doctor's office. Predeceased by loving husband Fred, she is survived by her daughter Janice, son-in-law Mike Hutchins, and brother Ed Hart. Violet's ashes will be interred at Punnichy Cemetery in early September after a brief graveside ceremony. WODTKE - Harry (Dec 1917 - Oct 2012) was born on December 23, 1917 on a farm north of Punnichy, Sask. In 1918, the family moved to another farm just west of Punnichy where he lived and farmed with his brother Rudy until his retirement at age 65. He entered the military service and while in the service he married. He had 4 children. When he left the service at the end of the war he returned to farming, his love. At his retirement, he moved into town and bought and renovated a small house which he lived in with his companion, Mary until his move to Regina in March, 2012. While living in town he frequented the senior facility and enjoyed all of the senior activities. He loved company and having his children and grandchildren visit. He enjoyed many card games with family and friends. He enjoyed going fishing with his friend Harold Straker and staying at his trailer. Another enjoyment of his was going to various fiddling competitions and listening to old time music. He was a good dancer in his younger years. Before losing some of his eyesight he would plant and tend a vegetable garden. While Rudy was alive, they took a few trips to Regina, Kelowna and Edmonton to visit with family. As much as he enjoyed these visits he was always glad to be back in his own home. While farming he learned to keep meticulous records of rain fall and crop yields. In his younger days he would take his team of horses to the local fair and often come home with a ribbon. He enjoyed horses and continued using them for some haying work even though he had modern equipment that could do the same job faster. He lived his life the way he wanted, in a rural setting away from the bustle of city life. He was predeceased by his parents, his son, Wayne, his brother, Rudy and his sister, Rosa. He leaves to mourn his passing is his companion of 33 years, Mary Payne and her children. Grandsons Tyler (Carmen) Wallace of Regina, Shelby (Annette) Wodtke of Edmonton, and Jason Fork of Kelowna, granddaughters Celeste Bundus of Regina, Natalie (Kurt) Howe of Regina, Jennifer Wodtke of Vancouver, Kerri (Cory) Borne of Mackenzie, Lisa Fork of Kelowna, great-grandchildren Kyle Howe, Megan Howe, Cassandra Bundus, Logan Bundus, Aiden Wodtke, Blake Wodtke and Zachary Fork YONKMAN - Richard 'Dick' (April 18, 1923 - October 28, 2010). It is with great sadness that the family of Dick Yonkman late of Punnichy, SK, announces the peaceful passing on October 28 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK at the age of 87. He is survived by his loving wife Elise; their children, Leonard (Gail), Donald (Joan), Bernard (Darla) and Doreen Benning (Ronald); ten grandchildren: Nolan, Krista, Tina, April, Shane, Chantelle, Sarah, Travis, Mitchell and Jennifer; six greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Bertha Yonkman; brother John; and sisters, Cecelia Cherwinski, Mary Glasman and Bertha Schlosser. Dick was born on a farm in the Kutawa District near Punnichy. He married Elise Klass on November 1, 1950; his death occurring four days short of celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Dick loved farming and lived on the family homestead until his failing health in 2009 forced a move to Silver Heights Care Home in Raymore SK. He was active in the community, being a school trustee, 4-H leader, and a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool for over 25 years. Dick had a passion for all sports and loved attending and watching his children and grandchildren's activities.
