ALBERDING - John Francis (December 27, 1944 - June 10, 2011). John passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Daren; Deanna (Curtis) Thibault; and Darlene (Rob) Passmore; grandchildren, Steven, Tia, Jaden, Logan, Davin, Tyler, and Kelsey; sisters, Mary (John) Dorsch, Lucille Dorsch and Linda (Ralph) Godlen; brothers, Jerome (Leona) and James (Iona); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, Cecilia (nee Schick) and Joseph Alberding and brother-in-law Nick Dorsch. Vigil for John will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 15, and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday June 16th, at 10:30 a.m. Both services held at St. Mary's Parish, 41 Shannon St., Lanigan, SK. with Father Paul Proposki as the celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lestock, SK. ALBERT - Fenton Blair was called home by the Creator on April 10, 2014 at the age of 32. A traditional Wake will be held in the Band Hall of the Muskowekwan First Nation, Sask., Thursday, June 19, 2014, at 4:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 20 at 11:00 am in the same location. ALLEN - Cecilia 'Cis" Nisbet (nee Newton), Wishart, Sask. It is with fond memories and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Cecilia Nisbet Allen (Newton), on January 26th, 2010 at the Wynyard Hospital. Cis was born in Paisley, Scotland February 9th, 1920 and passed away just 14 days prior to her 90th birthday. As a young child, she and her family moved to Canada. Lestock, Sask. became her new home where she grew up, took her schooling and made many special life long friends. Lestock was where she met Claude Allen, her husband of 42 years. Cis and Claude were married January 8th, 1943 and moved to the farm at Wishart. It was there that they raised two daughters. At the time of her passing Cis was still residing on the farm at Wishart. "There is no place like home", and Cis was happiest there where she was close to her family. Cis was predeceased by her husband, Claude Allen, parents, Mary and Harry Newton, brother, Hugh Newton, sister, Edith Phillip, nephew, Bruce Bains, mother-in-law, Margaret Allen, father-in-law, Glen Allen, sister-in-law, Phemie Allen, and brothers-in-law, Bob Allen and Gordon Allen. Left to cherish her memory and mourn her passing are her two daughters Margaret (Henry) Keyowski, Claudia Stachiw, her only grandson, Rory Stachiw, her constant companion, caregiver and best friend Pepsi, sister, Florence Bains, sister-in-law, Lavona Allen, brother-in-law, Don Phillip, four nieces and four nephews. We would like to thank the Lestock Ambulance, Doctors, Nurses and staff of the Wynyard Hospital, for the kind care and support given to Mom and us during her last weeks. In keeping with Mom's wishes, a grave side service will be held at a later date (to be announced), when the days are warmer, brighter and longer. BARTOK - Anna M. (nee Mate). On Wednesday, July 29, 1998 Anna Bartok passed away peacefully at the Cupar & District Nursing Home (Shalom), at the age of 89 years. Anna is predeceased by her loving husband Louis; her parents, Steve and Katie (nee Paragi); sisters: Mary, Rose, Theresa, Kate and Elizabeth; and brother Steve. She is survived by her loving children Steve (Veronica) Bartok, Anne (Peter) Reiss and Louis (Darryle) Bartok; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one sister Margaret Gyore; and one brother Joe (Alice) Mate; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. September 19, 1987 Louis John Bartok, late of Lestock, passed away at the age of 83 years. Mr. Bartok was predeaceased by his parents, Joe and Maria (nee Metnoski) and a sister Mary; and leaves to mourn his wife, Anna; two sons: Steve (Veronica) and Louis (Darryle), both of Dysart; and a daughter, Anne (Peter) Reiss, of Cupar; also surviving are ten grandchildren: Nick, Steve, Joe, Veronica, Maria, and Erdin Bartok and Patricia, Debbie and Michelle Reiss; and two brothers: Ben and Joe of Welland, Ontario. BELLEROSE - Evelyn Rose, born in Lestock, SK on April 15, 1943, passed away peacefully with her family by her side in Regina, SK on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the age of 72 years. Predeceased by her two children, Debbie and Dwayne; granddaughter Brandy Lee; lifelong companion Albert; grandmother Virginine; and father Gilbert. Evelyn is survived by her loving children, Wayne Pelletier, Barb Wilton, Brenda Pelletier, Shelley Wilton, Michelle Wilton, Cheryl Eashappie and Donny Wilton; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. On March 12, 2016, Mrs. Mary Bonyai of Regina, formerly of Lestock passed away at the age of 75 years. Burial will take place at St. Elizabeth Church Cemetery, near Lestock, SK. at approximately 2:30 p.m. BRANDT - Julia Grace (nee Butler) March 23, 1933 � December 26, 2014. With heavy hearts we share the sudden passing of our dearest mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Julia Grace Brandt (Butler). Grace came into this world March 23, 1933, the 8th of 15 children born to John Frances Butler and Ethel Demyen of Lestock, Sask. Grace left home at 17 and married George Brandt on April 17, 1950. They moved to Gibbs, Sask. where they worked hard farming and raising their family. They eventually moved to Lumsden after 40 years of farming where they retired to enjoy more time with their grandchildren. Grace was an active member of the Lumsden community often sharing her energy to help others with a big hug, a prayer, a quilt or one of her delicious meals. There was always room for one more around the kitchen table. Grace is predeceased by her husband, George, her granddaughter, Tammy and her daughter, Dolores, eight sisters and three brothers. Grace leaves to cherish her memory her children, Carole (Clifford) Styles, Lois (Bill) Gardner, and Jeffrey (Cindy) Brandt; her sisters Mae LaFayette and Violet Greenstein and her brother Thomas (Yvonne) Butler; grandchildren Cheryl (Jeff) Bloudoff, Eddie (Amy) Styles, Brett Styles, Megan Gardner, Nathan Gardner, Julie Harvey; great grandchildren Jason, Brandt, Brody, Nicholas, Sarah, and Matthew; as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family. The Celebration of Grace's Life will be on December 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Centennial Hall in Lumsden, lunch to follow. BRIGGS - John 'Jack' W. 1917 - 2010. It is with sadness the family of Jack Briggs announce his death occurred on Monday, January 25, 2010 at Circle Drive Care Home at the age of 93. Jack is survived by his loving wife, Lillian; daughter, Beverly (Gerald Parent); son, Brian (Debra) and grandsons, Shawn, Kent (Mandi) and great grandchild, Alana, grandson, Kevin; and son, Warren (Pat). He is also survived by his brother, Reg (Pat). Jack was predeceased by his mother and father; his brothers, Tom and Dick (Jean); and sister, Mary (Wilf). Jack was born January 23, 1917 at Lestock, SK. He married Lillian Berg in 1940. He bought grain for Sask. Wheat Pool for 40 years, with Grasswood being home for 34 years in which time Jack established Briggs Insurance. He was a sales rep for Investors Syndicate and Saskatoon Real Estate. Community activities included the United Farmers, Co-Op Association, Grasswood Grain Club, Beaver Creek Picnic, Ball Club, Curling Club, SK Rifle Team, local band, billiards and golf. Special thanks to the Alliance Special Care Staff for their care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alliance Care Home or Faith Lutheran Church. The memorial service will be held Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church. BROUGHTON - Victoria (nee Lazar) October 28, 1919 - September 7, 2006. The family wishes to announce that Victoria Broughton has passed away at the age of 86. She is loved and remembered by son, Neil Broughton and his children, Jeremy (Danielle), Camille (Cameron Fraser); daughter, Elaine Broughton and her son, Regan Bartko; son, Bernie (Zoria) Broughton and their children, Danielle, Zachary and Luke; three great grandchildren, Jordon, Emma and Nathan; sister, Frances (Doug) Perron; brothers, Lou (Elma) Lazar; Les Lazar; Paul (Sylvia) Lazar; and Richard (Joyce) Lazar; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Victoria was born and raised in Lestock where she lived until 1997, when she moved to Saskatoon. All her life she was very active within the community, both in Lestock and in Ilarion Residence in Saskatoon. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 15th, at 2:00 p.m. from Mayfair United Church. BRUCE-BIGSKY - Beatrice Theresa (June 12, 1944 � June 28, 2014). Beatrice was called home by the Creator June 28, 2014 at the age of 70. A traditional Wake will be held in the Lestock town hall, Sask., Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 4:00 pm. BULKA - Rose (nee Kish), born July 2, 1912, passed away September 23, 2006 at the Cupar Shalom Nursing Home. Rose was predeceased by her husband, Steve, September 29, 1985; parents, Louis and Rose Kish; brothers, Steve and Louis; sisters, Margaret Young and Sister Columba (Anne Kish); sister-in-law, Bernice Kish; sons-in-law, Herman Schultz and Joe Bentz. She is survived by sons, Joe (Margaret), Steve (Maria), George (Dorothy), Frank (Shirley); daughters, Mary Bentz, Anne Eggleston, Yolanda Schultz, Elizabeth (Garry) Macza; brothers, George (Sophie), John and Joe (Rita) Kish; brother-in-law, Mel Young; sister, Elizabeth Kish; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren. Rose and Steve farmed in the Lestock district until retiring into the village of Lestock where she lived until moving to Shalom. BZDEL - Peter, born June 14, 1922 on a farm near Mozart, SK passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015 in Raymore, SK. On November 12, 1944, he married Jennie Wowchuk and together with their three children, they moved to a farm in the Lestock area where Peter farmed, cleared land and for 10 years drove a school bus. He lived on the farm until he retired and moved to Lestock in 1982. The saddest moments in Peter's life was when his daughter Diania passed away on March 23, 2002 and his beloved wife Jennie, of 59 years on January 3, 2004. Peter took great pleasure in putting up Christmas lights and decorating his house in Lestock. Numerous times he won 1st place for having the best decorated house in town. Peter also loved watching the Toronto Blue Jays and Saskatchewan Roughriders. While he was able to drive, Peter took great pleasure in the daily routine of going to pick up his mail, going to the Co-op and the Credit Union. This was all about visiting for him. After moving to Silver Heights Nursing Home, he missed his home and his longtime friend Boo, his Jack Russel Terrier. Peter is survived by his daughter Eileen (Elmont) Battyanie; son Len (Jan Hagerty); son-in-law Andy Molnar as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Thank you to Silver Heights for their attentive care over the last three years. CARIOU - Henry 'Hank' Marius Cariou passed away peacefully April 11, 2007 after a brave battle with cancer. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Ernastine (Erna) Anne Cariou (nee Kattler), on March 4th, 1990. Hank was born May 17th, 1925 near Lestock, Sask. He was one of 15 children born to Julien and Clemence Cariou and had many stories (or tall tales) to tell about growing up on a farm in such a large family. As a young man just 18 years old Hank volunteered for military service in January, 1944. He served proudly in the Royal Canadian Navy until December, 1945. Hank and Erna were married in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 24th, 1950 and moved to Saskatoon not long afterward. In 1952, as a Journey man Refigeration Mechanic, Hank was one of three founders of Polar Refrigeration Services Ltd, where he worked for many years to make the business a success. He sold his interest in the business in the early 70's to take a position at the University of Saskatchewan working on everything from specialized lab equipment to ice rinks until his retirement. When Polar Refrigeration celebrated the business's fiftieth anniversary, Hank was very pleased to be included. Shortly after founding the company, Hank and Erna started their family and raised six children. Hank made sure everyone knew how proud he was of all his kids and their accomplishments. Hank especially enjoyed time with his family and friends; he loved to play cards and socialize, swap tall tales, and express his opinion on a wide variety of topics. Nature and the outdoors were also a big part of Hank's life. He was always an avid hunter and fisher, and his wife and children became very familiar with the taste of duck, prairie chicken, deer, moose, pickerel and jack fish. He was a conservationist long before wildlife conservation became popular, and was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the World Wildlife Federation for many years. Hank was committed to the Christian ideal of helping others less fortunate than himself. After retirement, he stepped up his volunteer work and worked with Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity and the Red Cross (later Canadian Blood Services). As a member of the St. Philip Neri Church parish, Hank especially enjoyed his volunteer work with their refugee program and was an active member of the Father O'Leary Council of the Knights of Columbus. He always gave freely and generously of his time and there was never a need to ask Hank to lend a hand he was there whether it was to help a neighbour, volunteer for community service, or otherwise make the world a better place to live. Surviving are his sons, Brad of Calgary (wife Sandra and granddaughter Lucy), Dean of Vancouver (granddaughters Francis and Claire), and Darryl of Calgary (partner Lisa Robinson); daughters, Gail Cariou (husband Jim Hay) of Ottawa and granddaughter, Elizabeth Hay, Patricia Metcalfe of Shilton Downs Farm, U.K. (husband Harrison) and grandchildren, Charles and Isabelle Metcalfe, and Denise Cariou of Peter's Green, U.K. (husband Anthony Martin) and grandchildren, Oliver, Helena, and Miles Martin. He also leaves brothers, Jack (wife Daphne), Leo (wife Peggy), Charles (wife Ellie), Mark (wife Noreen), and Vic; and sisters, Anita Betker, Marcia Mills (husband Bob), Ginger Clancy (husband Erv), and Marcy Cariou, Inga Cariou and Melba Cariou. The family would like to thank Dr. Larson and the nurses in the palliative care unit at Saskatoon City Hospital, the care givers from Nightingale Services, and staff from Riverside Terrace. The family is especially grateful for the care, compassion and support from Ethna Martin and Debora Bauche, the St. Philip's Parish nurses. CHOAT - Barry Choat of the Lestock district died on December 25, 2015 at the Regina General Hospital. He was 51 years of age. Predeceased by his parents, William and Helen and his sister, Lorraine. Barry leaves to cherish his memory his three children, Alexandra, McKayla and Faith; a sister Myrna Kosloski of Regina; two brothers, Darrell of Regina and Darcy (Brenda) of Ituna; two nieces, Cara and Shayla, two nephews, Brayden and Brandon; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. CHOAT - William Choat, husband of the late Mrs. Helen Choat of the Lestock district, formerly of the Kellross district died on December 17, 2012 at the Regina General Hospital. He was 80 years of age. Predeceased by his parents, James and Adeline, his wife, Helen and his daughter, Lorraine. Ken was born in Lestock, Saskatchewan on October 22, 1941. Ken was predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and Frank Denomie, brothers Lori and Raymond (Corky), children Terry and Leanne Moise. Ken is survived by his loving companion and wife of 32 years, Agnes Sinclair. His sisters, Leona, Bev, Carol, Joanne and one brother Barry. Children, Cheryl, Melissa (Tom), Jennifer (Adrian), Jason (Janine), Tina (Tim), Michelle (Mark), Shantel (Hartley), Amy (Ross), Cree and Kyle (Mary). DENOMIE - Helen Emma (nee LaPierre) June 30, 1923 - November 19, 2005. Helen, passed away peacefully, at the Parkridge Centre. Helen was born in Lestock, SK. to Gilbert and Corrine LaPierre. Helen is survived by her children, Brad (Joy), Brian (Wanda) and Brenda (Kris); grandchildren, Jeremy, Amber (Jeff), Matthew, Evan and Danielle; five sisters, Theresa Schaffer, Annie Dyck, Verna (Frank) Ellis, Cecile Englund and Bev (Ed) Gjernes; one brother, Edgar LaPierre; one aunt, Mary Fisher; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. On Sunday, November 16, 2003, Arnold Daniel 'Kujo' ("Kenew" Eagle), passed away peacefully, at the age of 70 years, surrounded by his loving family, and a very special friend by his side, Catherine. Arnold was born on November 14, 1933 on the Muskowekwan Reserve. He was predeceased by his parents Lawrence Desjarlais and Josephine Pelletier. He is survived by his brothers: Joe, John and Peter, also his sisters: Evelyn, Dorothy and Celina; he is also survived by his children Clayton (Carol), Arnold (Pam), Sylvia (Dereck), Joseph, Annie (Mel), Maureen (Ryan); grandchildren Mariah, Angelo, Geno, Royce, Nina, Sarah, and Morgan, also numerous nieces and nephews and many other grandchildren. Arnold was well known and had a great inspiration for his horses. He also was a great inspiration to his friends during the time of ""training and racing"" his pony chuckwagon and chariots. He had also touched the hearts of many friends around him and those who knew him. Arnold was well known and proudly respected for his native and traditional ways of life. DEVERS - John Garfield Devers was born August 28, 1953 in Lestock, Sask. and passed away in Surrey, British Columbia on June 15, 2014, just short of his 61st birthday. He leaves to mourn his wife, Maria; children, Curtis, Lindsey and their mother, Ellen; his parents John and Rosemary Devers; brothers, Max, Dan (Shirley), Austin, Myles (Corrie) and sister Angela (Fred) and their families. John Garfield grew up on the family farm in Lestock, got his education there and headed to Thomson to start his working life. He moved to Winnipeg and started his family and years later, would move to BC, to start all over again. It was here that he met, fell in love with and married his best friend. John Garfield was an accomplished transmission mechanic and his knowledge and expertise was sought after in the Vancouver and Surrey areas, where he made his home. He loved to sail with his boat the "Esperenza", along with his first mate Maria. Although he was not an accomplished star navigator, he never got lost; not to say there were not some prayer moments, but he always returned home. He stood by the motto that there was always more than one way to go somewhere or get things done. There was your way and then there was his way. Somehow, he always ended up where he was supposed to be. A Private Service will be held at a later date for family and close friends in BC. DILDINE - Louise Helen (nee Schellenberg), passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on November 21, 2008, at Sharp Coronado Hospital in San Diego, CA, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Louise was born at Lestock, Saskatchewan on March 26, 1944. Her school years were spent in Hanley Saskatchewan and Saskatoon. After school she worked her way up from the lunch counter to accounting clerk at Woolworths Department Store on 8th Street. On one of her many trips to Hawaii with her girlfriends she met a young sailor on the beach, with whom she was to spend the rest of her life. After her marriage Louise worked as an Accounting Technician for Welfare and Recreation while they lived in Hawaii and when they moved to San Diego, CA, but her favourite job of all started shortly before her retirement when she became a Grandma. Louise is survived by her husband of 41 years, Al; her daughters, Laurie of San Diego, CA, Cheryl of Phoenix, AZ and Cheryl's two precious daughters Taylor and Kacey; her brothers, Alvin (Laureen) Schellenberg of Vancouver, BC; Ken Schellenberg (Diane Langford) Sherwood Park, AB; her sisters, Dorothy (Don) Zopf of Saskatoon, SK, and Evelyn Schellenberg of Vancouver, BC, and her sister and brother-inlaw Mary and Junior Mauer of Dundee, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, Gerry, Terry and Bruce; two grandsons, two granddaughters, five great granddaughters and a great grandson. Annie joined the Canadian Women's Army Corps in 1940 and was discharged in 1942. After marrying David in 1945 she stayed at home to raise her family. She qualified as a Hairdresser in 1963 and worked in nursing homes, as she found great joy working with the elderly. Annie was a long time member of the Maple Leaf Unit 287 (ANAF Vets. #38), the Royal Canadian Legion #362 and the Catholic Women's League. FRISKO - Luelle Olga (nee Bruce) March 3, 1940 - October 24, 2010. It is with great sadness that we announce Luelle lost her lengthy and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 70. Our sorrow is mixed with pride and amazement at her sheer determination and strength of spirit during her long journey. Born in Kelliher, Luelle attended Garnock School, and later the Canadian Vocational Training School in Saskatoon where she graduated as a Certified Nursing Assistant. In 1962, she married Edward Frisko and they settled in Lestock, where Luelle worked at St. Joseph's Hospital. She later worked as the Parkland librarian and Village Clerk, a position she held for 13 years. Luelle was predeceased by her parents, Don and Hazel Bruce, brother Maynard, sister-in-laws Helen, Ida and Elsie and brother-in-law Stanley. Luelle will be lovingly remembered by Ed, her husband of 48 years, sons Bruce (Tanya) of Halifax, Darren (Yolanda) of Raymore and daughter Karla of Calgary. She adored her grandchildren, Chris and Lindsay of Raymore. Reception to follow in the church basement. GENDUR - Violet. It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Violet Gendur, who died suddenly at her home on November 7, 2013. Violet was born in Lestock, Sask. on January 26, 1935. She was raised by her oldest sister, Liz, after their mother died. She attended school in Lestock and later attended Sacred Heart Academy in Regina. She married Steve Gendur on her sixteenth birthday and they were married for 36 years before Steve's death in 1987. Vi and Steve farmed and operated a business together in Lestock until 1977 when they moved to Regina, where Violet worked at Caprice Cards and Rhapsody Ladies Wear. Several years later, Vi met George Soparlo, and they spent many years together. After they both retired, they enjoyed travelling and spending time with their families and friends. Violet was very proud of her Hungarian ancestry and was able to travel back to Hungary to visit the birth place of her parents with both Steve and George. Violet was active in her local community club, curling club, hospital auxiliary and was the librarian of the Lestock Library. In her later years she loved going to the lake, Wakaw, Emma or Katepwa, where she could watch her grandchildren ride the waves, or catch a fish. She became a great grandmother in the last 10 months and was "over the moon" in love with Mira and Hudson. It was a joy for all of us to watch her together with them. Country music played a very important part of mom's life. She liked to say "Country Music is my religion!" She attended Craven Jamboree more times then we can remember and really enjoyed her visits to Nashville and Branson. Vi moved to Prince Albert in 2009 to be closer to her daughters. She was so happy to hear that her longtime friends, Al and Elaine, would once again be her neighbours in her new condo, a friendship that lasted over 40 years. Violet was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. She was "Grandma G" to everyone who entered her life. We love you mom. After Steve passed away in 1989, she moved to Regina, SK, and lived there until November 2012. Elizabeth then moved in with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Anne and Bill, at Sangudo, Alberta, until her passing. Elizabeth's family is most grateful to Mary Anne and Bill for taking wonderful care of mom over the last year and a half. Her happiest times were when she was travelling and attending family functions. LENDVOY - John Richard (September 4, 1934 - January 25, 2013). Oh, how we loved our Dad, our "Papa", and how we will miss him! Our Papa, John Richard Lendvoy, died at the age of 78 on January 25, 2013, in Regina, from a rare cancerous tumour. Our Dad was "rare", all right: He had to get a type of cancer that couldn't be treated. He was exceptional in every other manner. He was the epitome of humility, honesty, and hard work. Papa was born September 4, 1934, on 10-27-15 W2, the family farm four miles south of Lestock, SK. After graduating Lestock High School, he completed a two-year Vocational Agriculture Diploma at the University of Saskatoon in 1954. Who would have known that our Papa, who was quite shy and stuttered in his youth, would win numerous awards at University including essay and editorial writing awards, and a radio announcing award. He would eventually become known as a "fast talker". It was 1959 when he married his high school sweetheart, Ivadelle Campbell, and they raised three children, born 1961, 1964 and 1965. Papa spent 56 years in the oil patch. It all began in 1956 in Estevan, SK, at Continental Supply. He was transferred to Calgary and Drayton Valley, and then back to Estevan in 1966 as Manager of Continental Emsco (LTV Energy) for 20 years, employing five to fourteen employees as the oil patch went from boom to bust to boom. However, Papa always loved the land and found that "you can take the boy from the farm, but not the farm from the boy". While working his very full-time job, Papa bought some land near Lestock and farmed with his Dad on weekends and vacation time. "No rest for the wicked", Papa always said. Papa worked a stint with Westlund Industrial and National Oilwell, and then was hired by Ampscott (Weatherford) to sell pumping units in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, where he worked for 18 years. He only retired in April 2012 when he learned he was sick. Papa loved to talk to people and constantly received phone calls from friends and cohorts who often were seeking sound advice or an off-coloured joke; both were always on the tip of Papa's tongue. Papa was a "pin up" boy, being on the cover of Oilweek in the early eighties for selling the millionth C-66 engine. He received a Nexen Vendor Award in 2000, and was inducted into the Saskatchewan Hall of Fame as "Oilman of the Year" in 2001 for providing outstanding contribution to the petroleum oil industry. Papa even got a job offer when he was 77 years old! Papa was not full of pomp and circumstance - he downplayed every one of his life achievements. Papa and Mom (Gogo) moved eighteen times, living in Regina twice, on an acreage near Craven, Buena Vista, and then Regina again. They are known for their landscaping abilities, creating the most beautiful yards wherever they lived. Eventually, Papa and Gogo enjoyed some holiday time, travelling with us kids on Mediterranean and Caribbean cruises, to Cabo San Lucas, Dominican Republic, Cuba, the UK, France, Italy, and Spain. Papa loved people, he loved to learn, to tell stories about growing up on the farm and about the characters he met throughout his lifetime working in the oilfield, he loved life, his family, and talking politics. First and foremost for Papa was the family. Our Papa looked after us and we are so proud of him. He was generous, dignified, humble, reasonable, and full of quick wit and humour to the very end. Thank you Papa! Papa was predeceased by his parents, Ethel and John W. Lendvoy. He is survived by his wife, Ivadelle Lendvoy; his children, Karen (Doug) Neis and grandson, Brandon (Sylvia); Janice (Vince) Parent and grandsons, Sampson and Nick; John D. LINK - Kenneth Link (June 13, 1925 - January 11, 2014) formerly of the Lestock district, passed away at St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville, Sask. He kept his smile bright and his hugs warm until his final days. He will be greatly missed and always loved by his family and those who were lucky enough to have known him. LEONARD - Irene Mabel (nee Tull). The death of Mrs. Irene Leonard of Quality Care Homes, Saskatoon, SK, occurred at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon, on Thursday, August 13, 2009. She was 95 years of age and the last surviving member of her generation. Irene was born on September 30, 1913, to Charles and Annie (nee Shore) Tull in Fort Qu'Appelle, SK. On August 30, 1929, she married Antoine Leonard. They began their life together on a farm north of Lestock, where they worked and raised a family of four, one daughter and three sons. In 1955, Irene was employed in the dietary department at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. The following year, Irene and Antoine moved into Lestock and Irene relinquished her position in Saskatoon to work as a nurses' aide at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lestock, a career which spanned the next 23 years. Most of her duties involved tending to the babies in the nursery and children's ward. Irene always took great pride in her work and found it very rewarding. Her family was most important to her and she was dedicated to them. Irene loved her role as a homemaker, and was also a very congenial hostess, who thoroughly enjoyed entertaining visitors, none of whom ever left her house hungry. Over the years, cooking, gardening, knitting, sewing, crocheting baby blankets, going to dances, and traveling filled many pleasant hours for her. Together they raised eight children in Regina. Elizabeth modelled the faithbased values and loving family relationships from her upbringing in the raising of her own children. Elizabeth, Betty to her friends and family, lived her life with deep Catholic faith and commitment to and support of the Church, extended bible study and works of charity. She was particularly devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary who she prayed to for intervention in times of deep personal or family crisis. She was a Good Shepherd always ready to help those in need, the sick and the downtrodden. She was a life-long member of the Catholic Women's League giving generously of her time and talents for over forty years to its many causes. She was a strong advocate for her children to pursue their extended formal education. She encouraged and supported their endeavours in their many chosen fields at great personal sacrifice. Her extraordinary perseverance and organizational and financial skills allowed her to successfully guide the family through many of life's challenges. Elizabeth was an excellent cook and was admired for her hospitality and traditional Hungarian cuisine. Her many friends and family will attest to her formidable skills at the many card games that she enjoyed. Some of her other favourite pastimes included knitting, crocheting and gardening. Elizabeth always enjoyed the simple things in life, the company of family and friends, the many family summer vacations and time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always seemed satisfied with what others did for her. MOBERG - Anna Mary Catherine (nee Ward). Anna died on November 5, at Sunset Extendicare, Regina. Anna was born on May 18, 1920, in Lestock, Sask., to Charles and Margaret Ward. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Cornell in 1986, son Richard in 1951, and brothers, Edgar and Alban, and Sister Margaret. Anna is survived by sons Ward (Maria DiVincentis) of Regina, and Edwin of Toronto; grandsons Richard and Geoffrey of Toronto, and Bradley of Calgary. Anna had many nieces and nephews who will remember her for her unique character and generosity. Following Anna's completion of high school, she entered the Registered Nursing Program, St Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg. While in training, she married Cornell prior to him leaving for the War in Europe. This resulted in her leaving the program three months prior to her graduation. Not completing her RN education was her greatest disappointment. After the War, she and her husband owned the drug store in Lestock. Following the death of their six year old son in Lestock, the family lived in Kenora, Ontario, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Chatham, Ontario, and Regina. After her other sons became independent, she worked as a nurse's aid in nursing homes in Yorkton, Chatham and Regina. Following retirement she kept busy volunteering at Santa Maria and Pasqua Hospital. At Anna's request there will not be a funeral. A family grave-side service will take place at the cemetery in Yorkton, where she will rest with her husband, son Richard, her parents and her parents-in-law, Olof and Anna Moberg. In later years, even with diminishing health she was able to care for Zigmond and live in her own home until her passing. Interment in Muskowekwan First Nation cemetery. ORTHNER - Lloyd Douglas Dr. died on June 12, 2006 at the age of 54 years at the Kindersley Hospital in his wife's arms surrounded by his family. Lloyd was born on June 16, 1951 in Lestock, SK to Tegwen and Julius Orthner. He was a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle and friend and will be dearly missed by all. Lloyd Graduated from the College of Dentistry in 1976 at the University of Saskatchewan. He soon formed a dental practice in Kindersley with classmate Dr. Dana Bailey and served 30 years of exceptional practice. Lloyd was diagnosed with lung cancer on July 13 of last year. During Lloyd's illness, he expressed how thankful he was for his best friend and wife Lynn and how strong she was. Lloyd and Lynn were married for 35 years this July and were blessed with four daughters Jennifer, Lauren, Leanne and Julie. Lloyd was predeceased by his daughter; Leanne Orthner on February 13, 1996. He helped Leanne find peace with God, and the family is comforted in knowing that they are together in heaven. Lloyd was actively involved in the Kindersley Alliance Church, and was faithful in his service to the church by helping, teaching, giving and leading by example. Lloyd was a true leader and a well respected man in the community. Recently, Lloyd received a Saskatchewan Centennial Medal commending him on his service to the community. Lloyd provided his family with love and a sense of security and he will be dearly missed. Catherine Padar, age 89, passed away in Estevan, Sask., on Monday, April 29, 2013. PRINCE - Robert Allan. It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Robert Allan Prince on April 28, 2014 after a hard fought battle with cancer. God wanted to make the other angels laugh, so he called Doug home. He will be missed by many. STONKUS - Aldona. After a long rich life, our Babby passed away in Regina on Wednesday, March 4, 2009. Born in Lithuania on May 19, 1919, her happy childhood was spent in the glow of Lithuanian independence. Following the chaos of World War II, she arrived in Montreal as a displaced person where she soon met another Lithuanian immigrant, Stasys (Stan). The vision of Tommy Douglas lured them to Saskatchewan and for the next thirty five years they lived in Abernathy, Lestock, and Esterhazy where Stan practiced medicine and they raised their daughters. After Stan died in 1985, she began a new adventure in Regina, delighting in her role as a Grandmother. Babby was a lover of linguistics, ideas, music, literature, bridge, politics, travel, and wine, and her great intellect was complimented by her common sense and mischievous love of life. Throughout her long life she made countless friends in all parts of the world. Babby will be forever in the hearts of her family, daughters, Maya (Keith) Moore, and Aldona (Brian) Torgunrud, and her beloved grandchildren, Stan, Anna, Katharine, Iris and Jeff. Ivan was born in Lestock, SK on September 12, 1932. When he was 11 years old they moved to the farm south of Ernfold, SK. Ivan had a brief career with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool's construction department in the late 50's, where he honed his carpentry skills. He returned to the farm and lived there until 1998. He married Evelyn Nelson on June 18, 1966. Their marriage lasted for 25 years until Evelyn's passing on May 23, 1992. Ivan then married Edith Weinbender on December 17, 1997. Our family knew Ivan as a kind, considerate neighbor, but we soon became to know him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Ivan was a immediate hit with the family due to his kind, gentle, unassuming nature and everyone looked forward to having a visit. He was a great mechanic and loved to fix up old cars and tractors. He could build anything with just an axe and hammer. When you least expected it, Ivan would start into a project and build himself a shed or garage, or restore and old relic into a classic vehicle. Ivan enjoyed auction sales, always coming home with his truck loaded with treasures. He loved farming and couldn't wait until spring so he could get out in his 1270 case tractor. He was always willing to help anyone out, and he hardly ever would ask for help in return. He had a good sense of humor, and loved to bug and tease. He enjoyed the simple things in life, like spending time with family, who were all so important to him. Ivan was a great man and will be missed by everyone who knew him. It is very hard to say good-bye, but we know the love we have for him, will mean he will be with us forever. SWENSON - Roderick John. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rod, late of Lestock, Sk. on September 20, 2015. He was predeceased by his parents John and Doris Swenson, and brother Ivan Swenson. TOTH - Anne (nee Hido) passed away peacefully on June 23, 2013 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon. Annie was born May 25, 1924 to Steve and Rozalia Hido of Lestock, Sask. As a young lady she moved to Hamilton, Ontario to work. There she met Louis Toth. Anne and Louis were married in 1943. After the war they moved back to Saskatchewan and bought a farm near Lestock. They raised four children, Irene (Garry Woytas), Leonard (Margaret), Shirley (Garry Sturgeon), and Steve. They later moved to Regina, where Anne worked at Pasqua Hospital. Although quiet and reserved by nature, she had a warm smile and seemed gifted at making friends with anyone who would smile back. Louis passed away in 1988 and Anne later moved to Hamilton Plaza, where she stayed until moving to Saskatoon in 2009 to be closer to her daughter. She leaves two sisters, Rose and Margaret, four children, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and countless friends and extended family. It is with great sadness, for he will be missed, but happiness for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Elmer Charles Toth on July 11th, 2011. Elmer was born to Victoria (Hordos) and Steve Toth in 1928. He was the 8th child of 11 children. Elmer lived his early life at the family farm near Lestock. He attended high school at Campion College completing Grade 13. At this time he was called home to help on the farm ending his hopes for a University education. He moved to Regina in 1951 and found employment with the CNR. In 1954 he married the love of his life, Yolanda (Lanie) Toth (no they were not related). They had 6 children; Darrell, Catherine, Steven, Michael (deceased at birth), Wayne, David (deceased at birth). Elmer continued his education throughout his married life and spent the better part of his working career with the Department of Public Works managing federal facilities in Regina. Elmer was an incredibly talented man. There was no task at which he did not excel, be it building a house, pouring concrete, building furniture or fixing and repairing all manner of things, mechanical or electrical. He was a natural born teacher and ably and happily passed his knowledge and skills along to his children and grandchildren. He operated a mixed farm with his father until 1951 when he took over the full operation from his father. James�s passion in farming was growing various grains, livestock and poultry, proudly supplying the needs for his family. He accomplished this through many challenging tasks including being the daily weatherman and most of all operating the family farm as a successful astute businessman for fifty eight years. Each time he drove his John Deere tractor you would always see the big grin James had, but nothing could surpass his love and devotion for his family and generosity of spirit. James was deeply loved and he will be very dearly missed by all. TOTH - Louis Ernest. In the early hours of Sunday, February 9, 2014, Louis Ernest Toth passed peacefully into eternal life, while at home. Louis was born on the farm South West of Lestock on February 18, 1926, the eighth child of Steve and Victoria Toth. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Mary Kish-Varga, Anne Melenchuk, Elizabeth Melenchuk and Victoria (infancy); and brothers Steve, Joseph, John, James, and Elmer. Louis leaves to mourn his loving wife Maureen; children, Edwin, Donna, Laura (Kurt) Gulash and Kevin (Cara); grandchildren, Sarah, Jessica, Emily and Matthew Gulash; Abby and Ashlyn Toth; brother Les (Rita); sister Helen (Merv) Kealey; and sister-in-law Yolanda Toth. Louis graduated from the U of S in Electrical Engineering in 1952 and began work with Saskatchewan Government Telephones (SaskTel) and with the exception of 4 years with BC-Tel, he worked his entire career with SaskTel retiring in 1983. He was one of the engineers who helped test and install the microwave towers in Saskatchewan in the late 1950's. Late in his career Louis was heavily involved in the Planning Department and with future community development of underground communication infrastructure. After retiring from his first career, he became Warehouse Supervisor at the Regina Food Bank for seven years and later, an Investment Representative for 10 years. Throughout his life, Louis volunteered in many organizations and was an active lifetime member; of the Knights of Columbus, Telephone Pioneers and the Association of Professional Engineers. Louis was definitely an engineer at home, with his brilliance, he was able to fix or modify anything so it would have new life. Louis enjoyed woodwork, golfing, gardening, fishing and many more outdoor activities. Later in his life he focused on his faith and family. He was a key member of the founding group in the development of the Vocation Program in the Elementary Schools associated with Holy Trinity Parish. Margaret is survived by her loving husband James of nearly 47 years, sons James (Dianne); Leslie (Lara); Joseph (Bernice); daughter Margaret (Robert); son in law Stephen; grandchildren Tania, Leigh-Ann, Chyndelle, Adryan, Kerynn; Melissa, Jessica, Sara, Brianne, Sara, Jesse, Abigail; Jennifer, Joel, Janel; Shaylene, Christopher; Christopher, Kaitlin and Victoria; and her parents, three brothers as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was born in Hungary in 1942 and immigrated to the Cupar area in 1956. Margaret and James were married April 26, 1958 and settled in the Lestock area where they farmed and raised their family. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing trees, vegetables and most especially her flowers. Her real joy though was in her family, her husband, children and grandchildren, who she always had time for. She found meaning in everyday life and filled hers with acts of kindness, enjoyable times with friends and memorable gatherings with family. Margaret will always be remembered as a selfless friend, devoted mother and a loving grandma to the many that will dearly miss her wonderful spirit and positive outlook on life. He returned with his parents to Hungary and then immigrated to Canada in 1927 where he settled in the Lestock area and farmed until 1973. John and his wife retired from farming and moved to Regina. John later moved to North Battleford in 2001 due to health issues. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Emma at Tudor Manor in Okotoks, AB. She was born in a farmhouse in rural Lestock, Saskatchewan on April 6, 1927. Emma was predeceased by her parents Frank and Mary Nagy, husband George and daughter Midge. She is survived by her siblings Joe, Mary (Wootten), Al (Joyce Gardner) and Eugene (Verna) Nagy, daughter Michelle (David) Vollhoffer and son Bill (Deb McKay) Tuttosi. She was blessed to have several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous relatives and friends. Emma's love of flowers, gardening, music, cooking and home decorating brought her great joy. Emma had an interesting life and one lived and filled with the Catholic faith. She will be missed and always loved. VASS - Elizabeth (nee Chubak) was born November 17, 1920 in Damocz, Hungary. She came to Lestock in 1929 with her mother Anna Chubak and her sister Ilona to join her father Jeno Chubak, who had emigrated in 1925. Elizabeth graduated from Lestock School with plans to attend nursing school. Her mothers early death curtailed these plans due to her desire to help with the care and raising of her younger siblings. In 1941 she married Joseph Vass in Mary Queen of All Hearts Church in Lestock. They farmed near Lestock until 1947 when Joseph and his brothers built the garage. Elizabeth and Joseph operated the business together until the mid 1960's when Elizabeth took over the sole responsibility. For the next 37 years she was a successful farm equipment dealer with the assistance of her sons Chuck and Rod. In addition, she helped develop their extensive farming operation. She always had a love of land and growing things. Elizabeth was fortunate to remain active in the business she loved until 3 months before her death. She always enjoyed a special relationship with her customers who were also her friends. Elizabeth valued education so much that three of her children became teachers. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, her sister Ilona and her husband Joseph. She is survived by: her sisters Anne (Roy) Huartson, Violet Gendur and her brother Eugene (Pat) Chubak; her children Edward (Janice), Dianna (Bernard), Dennis (Joyce), Sylvia (Robert), Chuck (Susan) and Rod (Karen); her grandchildren Berkley and Marty (Jamie) Sells, Solly and Steven Vass, Kristen, Karilyn and Evan Vass and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Joseph; brothers and sisters: Adam, Andrew and Margaret in infancy; Steve, Joe, Alex (Helen), John and Mike. George is survived by his mother Theresa in Pioneer Village; brother and sisters: Magdalene Sekel, Rosa Seglie and Alfred; sister-in-law Margaret Volman and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. George was born on December 11, 1928 in Southey, SK and was raised on the family farm in Lestock. He attended George's School. George farmed his whole life with his brother Joe until his health wouldn't allow him to. In 2000 he built George Volman and Brothers Museum in Leross, SK. In March of 2001 he suffered a stroke and moved to Regina and lived with his brother Alfred. George enjoyed farming, building antique toys, bread making and took great pride in his museum. We're going to miss Blanche, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Blanche was born in Lestock, SK on June 21, 1932. Her early years were spent on the family farm where she developed her strong work ethic. She graduated from the Grey Nuns School of Nursing and married her high school sweetheart, John Waters. For the next few years she worked as a nurse at Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina and later in Saskatoon. Over the next many decades she combined nursing and raising her three boys Greg, Murray and Bob of whom she was very proud. She also spent a great deal of time volunteering at the Palliative Care Unit in St. Paul's Hospital, the Friendship Inn, Bishops Appeal, and other charitable organizations. Blanche was an exceptionally kind and compassionate person who always wore a smile. She will be remembered for her enthusiasm and willingness to help others. The family cabin at Emma Lake was a source of many happy memories. Jim was born in Lestock, SK on May 4, 1938, moving to Saskatoon in 1948. He met the love of his life Nancy and they were married on September 3, 1960. Jim worked at various jobs. In 1972 he began working at Federated Co-operatives Limited, serving in various capacities until his retirement in May 1998. Jim was a man of deep Christian faith of the Orthodox Church. He loved God and all His creation. Jim was blessed with many talents. He loved working with his hands and there was no project that he would not tackle, whether it was woodworking, plumbing, or electrical. He was known by many as Mr. Fix it or Jim the Tool Man. He was always ready to lend a helping hand at any moment to anyone in need. Jim and Nancy loved to travel and visited many places in the world. They were members of the Saskatoon Prairie Lily RV Club for 16 years, making many new friendships. Since retiring they spent several winter months each year traveling to Arizona in their RV, where they enjoyed hiking on desert trails, boating on the Colorado River, and meeting up with the many friends they made over the years. Jim was a dedicated volunteer at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada in Saskatoon, which held a special place in his heart. As well Jim enjoyed music, dancing, fishing, and loved gatherings with friends and family. He was an avid reader, liked to sketch, and especially loved working in his backyard enjoying the nature around him. This gave him an opportunity for the quiet times he enjoyed. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Tillie Yasinowski of Saskatoon at St. Paul's Hospital on July 26, 2007, at the age of 92. Tillie is survived by her son, James and daughter-in-law, Nancy Yasinowski of Saskatoon; daughter, Margaret Longworth of Edmonton; two sisters, Elsie Siganski and Nettie (Bill) Gobel of Saskatoon; as well as her extended family, Merv Achtemichuk, Lou and Alison Baudru, and Vickie Fernets, all of Saskatoon; five sisters-in-law, Anne, Stella, Mae, Angela and Mary; two brothers-in-law, Walter and Russell; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband, John in 1977; parents, James and Mary Evanski; sisters, Annie Tkachuk, Polly Kowalchuk and Maggie Evanski; brothers, Mike and Max Evanski; and son-in-law, Mel Longworth. Tillie resided in Bankend, SK until her marriage in 1936, when she moved to Lestock with her husband John to take up farming and in 1946 they moved to Saskatoon. Mom was an avid gardener and took pride in sharing the fruits of her labor with family, friends and neighbors, as well as doing a lot of canning and preserving. The kettle was always on and everyone was welcome. Mom loved to entertain and was an excellent cook, making a lot of wonderful ethnic dishes for many different occasions and there was always room for one more at the table. Mom was a very kind person and always willing to give a helping hand to people in need. She was an excellent seamstress and her hobbies were puzzles in general, crocheting and knitting (her knitted booties went to many corners of the world). She loved to travel with her family, and made several trips to places such as Arizona, Mexico, Hawaii and Venezuela.
