ANTONICHUK � Nick Antonichuk was born in 1921 to parents Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Antonichuk. He passed away in 1922 and was buried at Lady Lake Cemetery. ANTONICHUK � William (Bill) Antonichuk, age 65, passed away on May 4, 1975 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral service was held at the United Church in Preeceville and burial in Lady Lake cemetery. Born at Selkirk, Man., he came as a child with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Antonichuk to the Preeceville district. Later he took up farming. In 1952 he married Helen Yakiwchuk and they continued to farm until his retirement in 1973. Predeceased by his father in 1941 and his mother in 1944, a brother Mickey in 1969 and a brother Nick in infancy, he is survived by his wife; four brothers, John of Preeceville, Peter of Hughson, Calif., Jack of Port Alberni and George of Glenelle, MB; six sisters, Mary (George) Osatiuk of Usherville, Dora (Alvin) Carsten of Preeceville, Janice Thorson of Nipawin, Kate Gleicher of Meanlo Park Calif., Lena Pringle of Birch River and Polly (Les) Mients of Chilliwack, BC. ANTONICHUK � Mickey Antonichuk, passed away on April 30, 1969 in the Regina General Hospital. Funeral service was held in the United Church in Preeceville and burial in Lady Lake Cemetery. The youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Antonichuk, he was predeceased by his father in 1941 and his mother in 1944 and a brother in his youth. He had lived with his brother Bill in the Lady Lake area since childhood. After attending school, he later took up farming. He is survived by six brothers, William, Mike, John, Pete, Jack and George and six sisters, Mrs. George Osatiuk, Mrs. Alvin Carsten, Mrs. Ed Glishner, Mrs. Gerard Thorson, Mrs. Joe Pringle and Mrs. Les Mients. DRABATH � William Drabath, 72 of Murray Point, SK., and formerly of Preeceville, passed away October 3, 1985 in Plains Hospital in Regina. Funeral held in the chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home. Born on April 14, 1913 in Preeceville, he was educated at Sunny Brae School and farmed and did carpentry work in the Lady Lake area. He then moved to Tisdale, where he farmed and also worked as a mechanic at Zenon Park, and later had a restaurant at Arborfield. He was a maintenance man at a trailer court at Regina before retiring to Emma Lake. He married Polly Chornomitz at Preeceville on October 10, 1936. Predeceased by his father, George in 1926, his mother, Helen in 1975, and two brothers, Mike #1 in 1922 and Mike #2 in 1980. he is survived by his wife; two sons, David and George of Calgary; three daughters, Dorothy Magnus and Rose Ann Radcliffe, both of Tisdale and Sharon Jose of Regina; a half brother, Peter of Preeceville; three sisters, Verna Poggemiller of Tisdale, Rose Roy of Saskatoon and Lily Skutelnick of Kelvington and 15 grandchildren. DROBOT � Helen (nee Kozak) Drobot, 61 of Lady Lake, died on December 18, 1994 at home. She was born June 26, 1933 in Roblin, MN, and was educated at Gleneden School until grade 8 and received her high school education at Roblin Collegiate. She taught school at Alonsa for one year and then two years at Shellmouth, MN. In 1953 she left for Vancouver and obtained employment at the Federal Unemployment Insurance office at New Westminister, BC. In 1960 she moved to the family farm at Preeceville. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, New Westminister. On October 26, 1957, she married Peter in Holy Redeemer Church in Roblin. Predeceased by her husband in 1990; her twin daughters, Marilyn and Delphine in 1967; a son Delwyn in 1969; her father Paul in 1990; her mother Mary in 1986; two brothers, Donald Kozak in 1936 and Nick Sander in 1966; and two sisters, Tillie Kozak in 1986 and Pauline Neduhin in 1994; she is survived by a son Randy of Preeceville; a daughter Darlene of Preeceville and four brothers Sam (Albina) Kozak of Roblin, George (Millie) Kozak of Vancouver, Tony (Mary) Shenderevich of Roblin and Frank Sandar of Vancouver. DREBOT � Helen Drobot, 85 of Sturgis, died on March 15, 1975 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral was held in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah�s Witnesses at Sturgis and burial in Lady Lake Cemetery. Born in Bukavena, Austria, she came to Canada with her parents in 1906 and settled on a farm in the Preeceville district. In 1911 she married George Drabath and from this union there were three sons and three daughters. In 1924 her husband died and four years later she married John Drobot and they lived on a farm in the Lady Lake district. Predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Todor Soyko; four sisters, Pearl Karchie, Veronica Leason, Anne Perpelitz and Dora Leason; a brothers, John Soyko and a son Michael in infancy, she is survived by her husband; three sons, Bill Brabath of Regina, Mike Drabath of Prince Albert and Peter of Preeceville; three daughters, Verna Leason of Tisdale, Teena Skutelnick of Kelvington and Rose Roy of Sudbury; a brother Bill Soyko of Prince Albert; a sister, Katie Phillips of Preeceville; 26 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. DROBOT � John Drobot 89 of Lady Lake, passed away December 11, 1982 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held at the Lady Lake Hall with Sid Drebit of Jehovah�s Witness officiating. Born on June 22, 1893 in Chernowetz, Austria he received his education there and came to Canada in 1911. He worked in Quebec and Ontario before coming to farm in the Lady Lake district in 1914. He also worked in various bush camps, logging and hauling food supplies to the camps and doing power saw work. He married Helen Drabath (nee Soyko) in 1928 in the Lady Lake Orthodox Church. In 1960, he retired from farming, but continued to reside on the farm for the remainder of his life. Predeceased by his wife in 1975; a brother, George; a sister Sansheira in the USSR and a stepson, Michael Drobot in 1980; he is survived by a son, Peter of Lady Lake, a stepson, Bill Drabath of Emma Lake; three stepdaughters, Verna Poggemiller of Tisdale, Rose Roy of Sudbury and Lillian Skutelnick of Kelvington; two brothers, Alex of Langley, BC and Nazari of the USSR; two grandchildren and 25 step grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and 40 step-great grandchildren. DROBOT � Pete Drobot 57, of Preeceville, died on April 24, 1990 in University Hospital Saskatoon. Funeral was held at Preeceville Funeral home. Born on July 7, 1932 on a farm north of Lady Lake, he was educated at Ajax School. From 1949 to 1950 he worked at Sudbury nickel mines. He worked at various mines from 1951-54, including, Eldorado at Lynn Lake, and Western Nickel at Hope, BC. He worked on skitters from 1965-1981 in Hudson Bay and Prince Albert. He also farmed. He married Helen Kozak at Roblin, MB. Predeceased by his parents, Helen in 1975 and John in 1982; his twin daughters, Delphine and Marilyn in 1961; a son, Delwyn in 1969 in infancy and two half-brothers, Mike and Bill; he is survived by his wife Helen; a son Randy of Preeceville; a daughter Charlene of Preeceville and three sisters, Verna (Ernie) Poggemiller of Tisdale, Rose Roy of Saskatoon and Lily Skutetnick of Kelvington GALAN � Mary Galan aged 92, of Moose Jaw, died on May 27, 1970. Funeral service held at St. Demetrius Greek Orthodox Church in Lady Lake. Born in Austria, she came to Canada in 1904 to the Lady Lake district and lived there until 1949, when she retired to Endeavour. Later she moved to Moose Jaw. She was a life member of St. Demetrius Greek Orthodox Church at Lady Lake. Predeceased by her husband Dmetro in 1918, five daughters, three sons, a brother and a sister she is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Mintenko of Moose Jaw, Anne Shand of Saskatoon and Kate Greba of Endeavour; two sons, John of Richmond, BC and Albert of Moose Jaw; 23 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. KALENCHUK � Ellen Kalenchuk 81, of Saskatoon, and formerly of Lady Lake, died on November 15, 2003 at Sherbrook Community Centre in Saskatoon. Funeral service held at Preeceville Funeral Home. Born on November 22, 1922 in Lady Lake to Metro and Nastasia (Hackman) Kalenchuk, she attended Sunny Brae School. She taught for much of her career in Prince Albert and moved to Saskatoon in 1974. She was predeceased by her parents, Metro and Nastasia; a brother, George and two sisters, Mary Sherwood and Anne Dannelley. KALENCHUK � Nastasia Kalenchuk (nee Hackman), 90 of Preeceville, died on June 12, 1980. Funeral held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Sturgis. Born in the Ukraine in 1890, she married Demetro (Metro) Kalenchuk at Canora in 1908. Predeceased by her husband in Sept. 1962, a daughter Ann (Ted) Danelley, in 1979, two brothers and one sister, she is survived by a son George of Preeceville; two daughters, Mary Sherwood of Castor, AB., and Ellen Kalenchuk of Saskatoon; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren KALENCHUK � George Kalenchuk was born on February 4, 1909 on the family farm homestead in the Lady Lake district, a son of Ukrainian pioneers, Dmetro and Nastasia (nee Hackman) Kalenchuk. Since no school was yet built in the district, George began his education at home with his father being the teacher. At the age of 10 he began attending Sunny Brae School. In 1925 he moved to Saskatoon where he obtained his grade nine at Nutana Collegiate Institute and after graduation from Teacher�s College. His first teaching position was at West Scarlet School, 4 � miles southwest of Canora and in 1932 began teaching a t Brookview School where he taught for three years. Later he taught at Sunny Brae School for over 20 years until his retirement. Following a 33-year teaching career, George retired from teaching on June 30, 1966. He continued to farm and take care of his mother until her death after which he retired to Preeceville. In May 1993 George became a resident of the Lion�s Hostel Care Home in Preeceville in respite and in June 1993 became a resident of the Gateway Lodge in Canora. In July 1996 he was transferred to the Canora Hospital long-term care section. George entered eternal rest at noon hour on Sat, August 8, 1998. Predeceased by his grandparents, Wasyl and Helen (nee Tkachuk); his parents Dmetro and Nastasia; sisters, Mary Sherwood, Anne Danelley and her husband Theodore; he leaves to cherish his memory, his youngest sister Ellen of Saskatoon. KARCHA � Artemi Karcha was born in 1863. In 1903, Artemi, his wife Dominika and son Harry, came to Canada from the village of Chornovetz, then known as Austria. After spending a year at Saltcoats, they took a homestead north of Sturgis. Besides clearing his land by hand, he also went out working for farmers in the Canora/Yorkton area. His wife died in 1907 leaving him with a teenage son and a 2-year-old daughter, Alice. Artemi remarried the same year to Pearl Soyka and they had nine children: Peter, Mary, Nick, Mike, Katie, Ledona, Dolly, Bill and Fred. Atemi died in 1940. KARCHA � Dominica A. Karcha, was born in 1868 in Austria. In 1903, she came to Canada, with her husband Artemi and son Harry. They first settled at Saltcoats for a year, then took up a homestead, seven miles north of Sturgis. In 1905, a daughter Alice was born. Dominica passed away in 1907. KARCHA � Dominica Karcha, 89 of Lady Lake, passed away September 23, 1974 at her daughter's home at Endeavour. Funeral held at Greek Orthodox Church. Born in Austria, Romania on September 5, 1885, she came to Canada in 1904 at the age of 19 with her parents, Nicolas and Marie Predy. They settled on a farm in the Canora district. In 1910 she married Harry Karcha and they settled in the Astwood district, now known as Lady Lake. She helped her husband build the first school and church in the district and they helped new pioneers get established. In 1953 due to her husband�s illness they moved to Lady Lake and in 1971, due to her illness she moved to Endeavour to live with her daughter, Mrs. Tena Romanchuk. Predeceased by her husband in 1960, and two children, she is survived by five sons, George, Gordon and John of Lady Lake, Metro of Yorkton and Paul of Preeceville; four daughters, Irene of Hudson Bay, Annie Belokrely of Prince George, Tina Romanchuk of Endeavour and Mary (Edward) Hertes of Avonlea; a sister Soncera Bagan of St. Paul, AB; 29 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. KARCHA � George Karcha was born on the family farm in the Lady Lake district on September 18, 1911 to Harry and Domonic (nee Predy) Karcha. He attended school at Sunny Brae and helped on the family farm. In 1930 he worked as a helper at the UGG elevator at Lady Lake. In the winter months he worked for The Pas Lumber Co. of Reserve, SK and for Western construction near Ushta. He also spent one winter working for the Steel Company of Canada in Ontario, and several years as a farm labourer. In 1935, George got a job with CN railways. He was to work there for the next 15 years, until he went farming full time. On October 23, 1937 he married Lena Eftodie of Endeavour. They raised their family of four children, Irene, Kathy, Harry and Rodney. During his farming career, he also did custom threshing first with a John Deer Separator and Massey Tractor and later with #82 Massey combine and he also worked for the P.F.A in the early 1960�s. George was very active in community affairs. He served as a chairman on the local UGG Board for 25 years. He was chairman on the St. Demetrius Greek Orthodox Church at Lady Lake, the Lad y Lake Hall and the Lady Lake Sports Club. He was a founding member of the Lady Lake Trout Club, when the Regional Park was first started and served on the Park Board well into his late 90�s. In 1975 George and Lena bought their retirement home and move to Preeceville. Some of the many stories he like to tell was of his week long camping trip with his family with his family at 96 years of age and of ice fishing at 98 years of age. George�s pride and joy was his family. He had a total of 53 grand, great-grand and great-great grand children. After Lena�s passing on November 14, 2007 he was admitted to Long Term Care in Preeceville Health Centre where he made his home. It was here that he passed away on April 10, 2011. George was predeceased by his wife, Lena; brothers, Matt, Paul, John and Gordon; sisters Annie Bilokrely and Tena Romanchuk. He is survived by daughters, Irene Reading of Maple Ridge, BC, Kathy Reaser (Al) of Saskatoon; sons, Harry (Lil) of Preeceville and Rodney (Kim) of Preeceville. He also survived by two sisters, Irene Gogal of Preeceville and Mary Hertes (Ed) of Moose Jaw. Funeral services were held at Trinity united Church at Preeceville and interment in the St. Demetrius Greek Orthodox Cemetery. KARCHA � Gordon Karcha, 83 of Lady Lake, passed away February 2, 2000 at the Preeceville Hospital. Funeral was held at Trinity United Church in Preeceville and burial in Lady Lake Cemetery. Born on May 31, 1916, on his parent�s farm at Lady Lake, he attended Sunny Brae School. He went to work in Ontario, working in the tobacco fields near Tillsonburg, ON. While in Ontario, he attended night school and earned his welding papers. He worked on the pipeline in ON and returned to Sask. and the Lady Lake district. He opened Gord�s Welding in the 1940�s and built bulldozers. He later operated his parents farm and while farming worked for 17 years with Alex Pozium, who did welding, repairs and building of machinery. He was employed by the CNR, working on bridges and buildings as far away as Thompson, MN. He worked for La Pas Lumber Co. and later for John Lesko in Wanless as the mechanic fixing caterpillars. Following a car accident in 1969, much of his off the farm work ended. After he learned to walk again, he continued welding on a smaller scale and sold Watkins products. He married Mary Strijak on Nov 4, 1957 at St. John Lutheran Church in Preeceville and they resided on the farm. He was an official baseball umpire. Predeceased by his parents, Harry and Dora Karcha, two brothers, Paul and Johnny in infancy, and a sister Leotina in infancy, he is survived by his wife, Mary; five sons, Harvey (Janice), Dale, Leroy (Brenda), Kevin and Jason (Pam; four daughters, Bev (Frank), Karen, Brenda (Wally) and Stacey; three brothers, George, Johnny and Matt; four sisters, Irene (August), Annie (Bill), Tina and Mary; and 11 grandchildren. KARCHA � Lena (nee Eftodie) Karcha passed away on November 14, 2007 at the Preeceville Hospital. She was born on April 8, 1919 in Endeavour, SK to her parents, George and Dora (Hnatiuk) Eftodie. On October 23, 1937, she married George Karcha and they settled in the Lady Lake area, where they farmed for over 35 years before moving to Preeceville in 1975. Lena attended Lillian School in Endeavour and was a homemaker during her married life. She was well known in her community for her beautiful patch work quilts. Her other hobbies included sewing, gardening, canning and her photo albums. Her greatest joy was her family. Predeceased by her parents, brothers, Nick, John, Alex and Metro and sister Annie, she is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, George; four children, Irene of Maple Ridge, BC, Kathy (Al) of Saskatoon, Harry (Lil) and Rodney (Kim) both of Lady Lake; 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary of Midale, SK and Lillian of Preeceville. KARCHA � Peter A. Karcha, 76 of Lady Lake, passed away on June 27, 1985 in the Preeceville Hospital. Born on November 21, 1908 in Lady Lake, he was educated at Sunny Brae School. He farmed in the Lady Lake district since 1940. In 1944, he married Rosie Chernowchan in the Greek Orthodox Church at Lady Lake. During the winter months, he worked in the logging camps and in the summer months he was known to enjoy playing and watching ball games. Predeceased by his parents, two brothers, a step-brother and a step-sister, he is survived by his wife Rosie; five sons, Adam of Creighton, Wayne of Leader and Jerry, Eugene and Kenny, all of Lady Lake; two sisters, Marjorie Kardynal and Diane Czornobay of Endeavour; two brothers, Nick of Vancouver and Fred of Preeceville; four sisters, Dolly Melynchuk of Preeceville, Katie Surcon of Sturgis, Leona Michaluk of Sturgis and Mary Osatiuk of Preeceville and 13 grandchildren. KARCHIE � Fred Karchie, 68 of Preeceville, passed away September 5, 1994 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral was held at Trinity United Church in Preeceville. Born on May 21, 1926 in Lady Lake, he was educated at Sunny brae School. He farmed on the homestead at Lady Lake and worked in the bush for the Pas Lumber Co. in Reserve. He worked for SK. Power and moved to Toronto. He worked for Cardinal Insulation. In Fort Francis he worked at insulating homes. He returned to Preeceville in 1958 where he worked on the farm and then for Donald Tetlock on the backhoe. From 1964-1983, he worked for the Town of Preeceville as town engineer, town constable and fire chief. Ill health led to retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Lions Club for 19 years, a member of the Lady Lake Park group, and secretary for the Greek Orthodox Church for 7 years. On June 15, 1946, he married Nettie Daschuk at St. Demetrius Orthodox Church in Lady Lake. Predeceased by two sons, Frederick in infancy and Laverne at the age of eight; a daughter Ann in infancy; his father Artmi; his mother, Polly; three brothers, Mike, Bill and Pete; a sister Domnika (Dolly) Melnychuk; a half brother Harry and a half sister Alice Mentenko, he is survived by his wife Nettie; two daughters, Louise Ann (Gabriel) Bazin and Maxine Kibbie (Rick) Adbiak, all of Edmonton; a brother, Nick of Vancouver; three sisters Mary of Preeceville, Katie and Ledona of Sturgis and three grandchildren. KOCZAN � Mary Koczan, 78 of Preeceville, died on April 13, 1996 at Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held at Evangel Tabernacle in Preeceville. Born on June 23, 1917 in the Preeceville district to John and Anne (Petzul) Soyko, she grew up in the Endeavour district and attended Brookview School. In 1936 she married Mike Watermanchuk and they farmed in the Endeavour area. Soon after her husband died, she moved to Flin Flon. There she met and married Peter Koczan. They lived in Flin Flon until he retired in 1976 and they moved to Preeceville. Her second husband died in 1985 and she continued to make Preeceville her home. Predeceased by her father John in 1969; her mother Annie in 1991, her first husband Mike, her second husband Peter, a sister Rose Nischuk and three brothers, Mike and George and Michel in infancy, she is survived by two daughters, Adella (Alex) Peleshaty of Victoria and Linda (John) Chisholm of Thompson; a sister Doris (Dan) Karutsky of Sturgis; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. KOCZAN � Peter Koczan, 68 of Preeceville, passed away on October 12, 1985 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral was held at Evangel Tabernacle and burial in Lady Lake Cemetery. Born on July 16, 1916, at Cicsanow, Poland, where he was educated. He served in the Polish Army in 1940, and served one year in France. He then joined the Norway-British Air Force, in which he served until 1947. He immigrated to Canada that year and worked at Thunder Bay for one year before moving to Flin Flon, where he worked for Hudson Bay Mining and smelting for 24 years. He married Mary Soyko at Swan River on April 14, 1962. They moved to Preeceville upon his retirement in 1977. Predeceased by his parents, Nickoli and Caroline and a brother, Steve, he is survived by his wife; two daughters, Linda Chisholm and Adella Peleshaty, both of Victoria; a brother Mike of Livov, Ukraine; two sisters, Eva and Rosie both of Poland; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. KORTELLO � Nick Kortello, the son of Alex and Mary Kortello, was born at Lady Lake, SK on August 20, 1920. He obtained his elementary education at Lady Lake School. After completing his education, he went into farming with his brothers and also worked with neighbors on their farms. He was in the army during World War 11, which meant a move to Ontario, with his mother and a brother. From here he moved to Kelowna, BC where he did carpentry work and also worked on the fruit orchards. He returned to Hyas to be with two of his brothers, where he resided until his death. He had been a patient at the Norquay Health Centre for the last six weeks of his life. Nick was a quiet man, slow to anger, down to earth, and content with the basics of life. He enjoyed gardening and his family. Nick was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, George, Bill and John; a sister Ann Kriter; He is survived by two brothers, Harry at St. Catherine�s, Ontario and George in London, Ontario KORTELLO � Mike Kortello, age 76 of Hyas, passed away in the Canora Hospital on January 29, 1991. Funeral service held at the Lady Lake Community Hall on November 24, 1914 near Lady Lake, he was the son of Alex and Mary (Letwinuik) Kortello. He attended Lady Lake School and later moved to Brandford, ON to live with his mother, after the death of his father. Soon after, they moved to Hagerville, ON, where he worked on a tobacco farm. From there they moved to Kelowna, BC, where he had a small orchard and did some carpentry. Predeceased by his parents, his twin sister at birth, a sister, Ann and four brothers, George, Bill, John and William, he is survived by three brothers, Harold of Thorold, ON. George of London, ON and Nick of Hyas. KORTELLOS � Alex Kortellos was born in 1877 in Austria. He came to Canada in 1903 and worked for his brother, Pete in Gonor, MB. He married Mary on July 10, 1907 at Gonor, MB. In 1911, they came by train to Canora and then by wagon and horses to the Astwood district, where they took up a homestead, 2 � miles north of Lady Lake. They raised seven boys and two girls. Alex passed away in 1943. KORTELLOS � Gladys (nee Korney) Kortellos age 72, of the Canora Lodge, passed away on May 31, 1999 at the Lodge. Funeral was held at Norquay United Church and burial in Lady Lake Cemetery. Born on December 25, 1926 in Endeavour to Anna and Roman Korney, she attended school in Endeavour. She married Bill Kortellos in Endeavour in November 1947. During her life, she took in boarders, cleaned house, the bank and post office, and did some painting and babysat. Predeceased by her parents, Anna and Roman Korney, her husband Bill, three brothers, Norm, Mike and William, and a sister Pauline, she is survived by a son, Gerald (Desman) of Faro, Yukon; three daughters, Joanne (Ian) Abbott of Norquay, Debbie (George) Riddell of Norquay and Bonnie (Lionel) Danielson of Norquay; four brothers, Andrew, Lawrence and Joe all of Endeavour and Paul of Moose Jaw; four sisters, Mary Czornoboy of Regina, and Nora Bryk, Jeanette Jacques and Veloy Buchinski all of Endeavour; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. KORTELLOS � John Alexander Kortellos, 63 of Preeceville, passed away on June 15, 1971, after a short illness at the Swan Valley Hospital in Swan River. Funeral was held at the United church in Preeceville. Interment was in a family plot at Lady Lake cemetery. John was born June 15, 1908, at Gonor, MB. the oldest son of parents, Alex and Mary Kortellos (Kortello). When he was four, the family moved to a homestead north of Lady Lake. Because there was no school in the area, John did not attend school, but a cousin who spent the winter with the family, taught John to read and write. In 1932, he married Pearl Beskowiney and they settled in the hamlet of Lady Lake, where he operated a barbershop and poolroom. In 1934 he started his long career as a Massey-Ferguson dealer with his first shop in Lady Lake. Massey-Ferguson transferred him to Preeceville in 1938. He managed this dealership for 30 years. He 1949, he won the spot light sales contest for all of Canada and got an all expense paid trip to Toronto. He won another trip in 1964 to Mexico. A member of the Preeceville Masonic Lodge and the Preeceville Lion�s Club, he served on the town council. Due to ill health he retired in 1968. Predeceased by his parents, a sister and two brothers, he is survived by his wife; his daughter, Eldeen (Mike) Vanchu of North Vancouver, two grandchildren; a sister and five brothers. KORTELLOS � Pearl Kortellos, 97, of Preeceville, died on September 20, 2007 in Invermay Health Centre. Funeral held at Trinity United Church Preeceville. She was born August 5, 1910 in Bukowina, Austria to Alex and Lena (Scharski) Beskowiney. She attended school until grade four. She was employed at her husband John�s Massey Ferguson dealership, and kept the books on books and sales. She also worked at the Massey Ferguson dealership in Swan River. In 1950, she received a diploma for her services as an outstanding parts lady. Pearl enjoyed curling and belonged to the Eastern Star, the Senior Club 60 and Sask. Senior�s Association. She married John Kortellos at St. Demetrius Greek Orthodox Church in Stenen on July 21, 1932.She is predeceased by her husband John, brothers Bill and Joe, sisters Mary, Ann and Zoey. He was born in Austria and came to Canada with his parents in 1898. He married Veronica Soyka in 1915 and homesteaded in the Usherville district and then farmed in the Preeceville district until 1949, when they moved into Preeceville. They lived three years in the senior manor and for the last three months he was a guest at the Gateway Lodge. LEASON � Veronica Leason, 68 of Preeceville died on August 5, 1968 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held in Greek Orthodox Church at Sturgis. Veronica Goyka was born in Austria and came with her parents to the Preeceville district in 1906. She married Onufry Leason in 1915 and they homesteaded in Usherville and then farmed in the Preeceville district until 1949 when they moved into Preeceville. For three years she and her husband resided in the Preeceville Senior Home. Besides her husband, she is survived by five sons, Mie, Nick Greg and Bill of Preeceville and John of Prince George; three daughters, Mary Takaruk of Canora, Ann Parras of Moose Jaw and Irene Serhan of Edmonton; four sisters and two brothers, 17 grand children and on great-grandchild. A sister predeceased her. LESKO � Constantine (Kosten) Lesko, 69, of Winnipeg and formerly of Lady Lake, died on March 13, 1977, in the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg. Funeral held in St. Demetrius Orthodox Church at Lady Lake. Born on May 14, 1887, he came to Canada to Montreal in 1907 and in 1908 he took up a homestead in the Astwood district, now known as Lady Lake. In 1914, he married Wasylena Ryzak at Buchanan and they farmed in the district until retiring in 1956, when they took up residence at Lady Lake, later moving to Sturgis. In October 1974 he went to live with his youngest daughter at Flin Flon, later moving to Winnipeg. Predeceased by his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mary (John) Michaluk of Detroit and Lena (John) Boychuk of Winnipeg; two sons, John of The Pas and Fred of Preeceville; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. LESKO � Fred Lesko passed away unexpectedly on the morning of January 18, 2011 at the age of 79. Fred was the youngest of four siblings born February 29, 1932 on the family homestead in the Lady Lake district. Fred was innovative, curious, and a thirst for knowledge, and was just an all-round Good Samaritan. His love for farming was without end. He called it hobby farming and enjoyed every minute of it, right to the last day. He also worked for the CCIL as their main mechanic, drove the school bus and became a self-taught machinist and welder, performed the duties of Justice of the Peace, served as Marriage Commissioner, and worked as a community volunteer. He was well known in the community as a person who wanted to help. His wife Sophie, a brother John and a sister Mary predeceased Fred. His sister Lena and sons, Bill (Dawnis) Ron (Carolyn), Rob (Lynn) and 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren survive him. LESKO � John Lesko 66 of Wanless, MB and formerly of Lady Lake, who died March 19, 1987 at the home of his daughter in Grande Prairie, AB. Funeral held at the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church at Sturgis. Burial was in the Lady Lake cemetery. Born on January 19, 1921 in the Lady Lake area, he was the son of Kosten and Wasalena Lesko and attended Cavell School. On September 27, 1942, he married Mary Lazaruk in St. Demetrius Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church at Lady Lake. They moved to Regina where he drove taxis and later worked for Northwest Iron Works. Eventually they moved to Hudson Bay where he hauled fuel for Gulf Canada from Moose Jaw to Hudson Bay for four years. He then took up pulpwood contracting, continuing to live at Hudson Bay for another nine years until he move to The Pas. where he continued to work in the bush, contracting pulpwood and later setting up a sawmill. In 1974, he moved to Wanless, MB. He worked for the Manitoba government, teaching the trade he had learned. In Sept of 1986, when he became ill, he moved to Grand Prairie to be near his children through the final months of his illness. Predeceased by his mother in 1974, his father in 1977, and a grandson, Thomas Needham, he is survived by his wife Mary; two sons, Gerald of Edmonton and Edward of Grand Prairie; three daughters, Doreen Lesko-Marks of Grand Prairie, Judy Needham of Terrace, BC and Margaret Redlick of Grand prairie; a brother Fred Lesko of Lady Lake; two sisters, Lena Boychuk of Moose Jaw and Mary Michaluk of Claire, Michigan; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. LESKO � Sophie Ann Lesko (nee Waldon) born September 28, 1933 at Estevan to parents of English and Lithuanian descent, passed away peacefully in her 74th year on December 31, 2007 at Preeceville Lions Hostel with her husband Fred by her side. Sophie and Fred were married in Crosby, North Dakota on November 14, 1949 at an early age and left the city for a new life at Lady Lake, SK. She was quick to understand the Ukrainian language and it wasn�t long before she was right at home with the Ukrainian culture. Sophie was a modest person that was not swayed by wealth or glamour. She found pleasure in the simpler things that life had to offer. Sophie was an active member of the Sturgis legion Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She loved to knit, crochet, read novels and do puzzles. Sophie was a survivor. First a failed knee replacement, then problems with her thyroid, followed by breast cancer. Next it was sugar diabetes and finally the gradual failing of her liver. Despite these many complications that impacted her health during her golden years, none of these dampened her spirits. Sophie is survived by her husband, Fred of 58 years; three sons, Bill (Dawnis) Lesko of Winnipeg, Ron (Carolyn Schwab) of Saskatoon and Rob (Lynn Dang) of Calgary; five grandchildren; one brother Dick Waldon of Edmonton; three sisters, Roselyn Jacobsen of Calgary, May Gordica of Edmonton and Jennette Scammell of Edmonton, and her many close friends and good neighbors. LORCHUK � Nellie Lorchak, 88 of Sturgis, passed away on February 22, 1985 at her home. Funeral held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Sturgis. Burial was in Lady Lake cemetery. Born on October 22, 1896 at Uhryn, Poland, she worked on the family farm until she was 13 years old. She then immigrated to Clifton, NJ, where she worked in a cotton factory. Funeral service held in the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church in Sturgis and burial in Lady Lake Cemetery. Born in May 1894 in Austria, he came to Canada with his parents at the age of 12 and they settled in the Saltcoats district. He worked in Alberta in coalmines for many years. He came to the Sturgis district and married Alice Karcha of Astwood, now known as the Lady Lake district. They settled on a farm eight miles north of Sturgis. He retired in 1963 and moved to Sturgis. He was predeceased by a brother, Artimon of Sturgis and a daughter, Annie at the age of seven. MELNYCHUK � Dolly (nee Karchie) Melnychuk, 69 of Preeceville, passed away on December 1, 1989 in the Plains Health Centre. Funeral service was held in Trinity united Church in Preeceville. She was born July 15, 1920 on the farm at Lady Lake and attended Sunny Brae School. On July 11, 1943, she married Nick Melnychuk and they farmed in the Hinchliffe area. She managed the post office and owned a store in Hinchliffe. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and animals. In 1964, they moved to Preeceville. She was a member of St. Demetrious Church, Lady Lake; the Lady Lake Parks Association and the Sturgis bowing club. MELNYCHUK � Nick Melnychuk, 68, of Preeceville, died on June 17, 1985 in the Pasqua Hospital in Regina. Born on December 19, 1916, in the Canora district, he was educated at Antonio School. He worked in a mine at Flin Flon, MB from 1943-45 and moved to the Hinchliffe district in 1951 here he purchased a farm and later the Hinchliffe Store. In 1963, he moved to Preeceville working at loading of pulpwood and later selling insurance until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Squaw Lake Park and Recreation club and Secretary of the Lady Lake Greek Orthodox Church. He married Dolly Karchie July 11, 1943 at Lady Lake Orthodox Church. Predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth Melnychuk and a brother, Mike, he is survived by his wife, Dolly, a son, James; two daughters Debra and Paulette; a brother Anton of Weekes; seven sisters, Nellie Milner of Edmonton, Mary Stratychuk of Saskatoon, Connie Shushelnisky of Kelowna, Anne Milner of Brooklin, ON. NESBITT � Sally Nesbitt was born in 1903 in Bukovina, Austria, the daughter of John and Katy Osatiuk. The family immigrated to Canada in 1906 and lived in the Lady Lake area. Sally passed away in November 1928, leaving two daughters, Jenny and two month old Margaret. They were taken and raised by the grandparents, John and Katy Osatiuk. OKRAINETZ � Veronica "Verna" (nee Lasko) Okrainetz, 74 of Lady Lake, died on May 1, 1968 at Saskatoon. Funeral service held at Preeceville Funeral home chapel and burial in Lady Lake. Born in Austria, she came to Canada in 1911 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lasko. In 1912, she married Fred Okrainetz and they farmed north of Sturgis. OSATIUK � Darlene Maria Osatiuk, 26 of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away as the result of an automobile accident on February 28, 1982. The funeral was held in Trinity United Church at Preeceville on March 6th. Burial was in Lady Lake cemetery. She was born on July 4, 1960, at Winnipeg, to Mike and Aline Marie Osatiuk. She graduated from Langdon High School, Langdon, N.D, in 1978. She graduated from the North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, N.D, with an associate of arts degree in 1980. She was a draftsperson at Chief Industries in Grand Island, Neb., then moved to Williston, ND and was a draftsperson for the engineering department of the City of Williston. She was employed as a Computer Aided Design (CAD) operator and shift supervisor at Friese and Nichols, Fr. Worth, at the time of her death. Predeceased in death by two uncles and two grandfathers, she is survived by her parents, Mike and Aline Osatiuk of Williston and formerly of Lady Lake; two grandmothers, Marie Jeannotte of Winnipeg and Mary Osatiuk of Preeceville; two brothers, Wayne Michael of Houston, Texas and John Gillis of Williston; one sister Michelle Diane Osatiuk of Williston. OSATIUK � Mary (nee Karcha) Osatiuk, age 96 of Preeceville and formerly of Lady Lake, passed away on October 28, 2006 in Preeceville Lions Hostel. Mary was born April 25, 1910 to Artemi and Polly Karcha at Lady Lake. She was educated at Sunny Brae School. She married Nick Osatiuk on July 13, 1930 at St. Demetrius Orthodox Church at Lady Lake. She worked on the farm with her brothers, helping with the harvest. She cooked, knitted, spun wool for sweaters, and also painted the hotel and senior�s homes. Mary loved her gardens, and her favorite pastime was playing bingo and pull-tabs. Mary is predeceased by her son Johnnie in 1963, husband Nick in 1968, daught4rs Nettie in 2003, and Lily in 2005, her parents; a granddaughter and all her brothers and sisters. Mary is survived by her sons, Mike (Aline) of Fargo, ND and Jerry of Thunder Bay, ON; 13 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. OSATIUK � Nick John Osatiuk, 64 passed away on November 20, 1968 at the Preeceville Hospital, after a few months illness. The funeral was held in the Greek Orthodox Church at Lady Lake. Born in Austria he came with his parents to Canada at the age of six months and settled five miles from Preeceville. He attended school at Sunny Brae. Nick was a road equipment operator for the RM of Preeceville for 27 years, until 5 months ago, when illness prevented him from continuing his work. Besides his wife, Mary, he is survived by two sons, Mike of Winnipeg and Jerry of Kenora; two daughters, Nettie Ratushniak of Winnipeg and Lillian Parsons of Kenora, ON; two sisters, Mary Aronetz of Preeceville and Mrs. Zilon of Insinger; and 12 grandchildren. OSATIUK � Nick P. Osatiuk 95, of Preeceville, passed away on March 13, 1984 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held in the chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home and burial in Lady Lake cemetery. Nick was born on April 25, 1888 in the village of Waskevche, region of Bukovina in Ukraine. He came to Canada in 1914, to his brother�s home in the Lady Lake district. Enroute to Canada on the ship, he met Keetca Constantin, who was enroute to her brothers place. They were married May 25, 1914 shortly after they arrived. They went into farming in the area. Their two sons died in infancy and they adopted two girls, Jenny and Marge Nesbitt. He moved to Preeceville in 1975. Predeceased by his wife in 1970; three brothers, John, George and Andrew; a sister, Katie and an adopted daughter, Jenny Prystay; he is survived by an adopted daughter, Marge Palagian. OSATIUK � Odokia �Katie� (nee Comstantine) Osatiuk, 80 of Preeceville, died on November 20, 1970. The funeral was held at the Sturgis Greek Orthodox Church and burial in Lady Lake Cemetery. Kate, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Constantine, was born in Romania and came to Canada with her husband, Nick P. Osatiuk, in 1914. They lived on a farm in the Preeceville area. PERPELITZ - Mary Perepelitz, 91 of Lady Lake, passed away December 4, 1976 in the Preeceville Hospital. Funeral service held in the Greek Orthodox Church 1 1/2 miles east of Lady Lake. Born in Waszkewtski, Bukovena, in 1885, she married George (Giorgi) Perepelitz and in 1914, with their son John came to Canada to join her husband who had arrived in 1912. The family settled in the Usherville district and later moving into the Lady Lake district. He was born in Waskawetz, Austria in 1881. He immigrated to Canada in 1906 and settled in the Preeceville area. In 1914, he married Ann Petsul and they moved to the Endeavour district and later moved north of Sturgis, where he farmed for 30 years. In 1946 they moved to Hudson Bay. Survived by his wife; three daughters, Mary and Rosie of Sturgis and Doris of Stenen; son Mike of Erwood, SK; six sisters and a brother; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. SOYKA � Mike Soyko, 72 of Preeceville, passed away December 6, 1993 at his home. Funeral service held in the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home and burial in the Lady Lake Cemetery. He was born February 15, 1921 in Preeceville and educated at Brookview School. In his younger years he operated a caterpillar in various lumber camps at Prince George, BC. Later he moved to Hudson Bay and worked at Simpson and McMilan Bloedel. He also owned and operated a farm in Erwood where he and his wife Evelyn, raised their five children. In about 1982 he moved to Sturgis and in 1989 he retired to Preeceville. Predeceased by his parents, John in 1969 and Annie in 1991; a sister, Rosie in 1982 and two infant brothers, Michael and George, he is survived by two sisters, Mary Koczan of Preeceville and Doris (Dan) Karutsky of Sturgis; five children, Barbara Ann (Frank0 Kowako of Hudson Bay, Marion of The Pas, Brian of Fort MacMurray, Rose (John) Borrowitz of Saskatoon and Judie of The Pas; and seven grandchildren YOUROWSKY � Lena Yourowsky 86, of Lady Lake district, died on July 28, 1973 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral was held in Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Lady Lake. She was born in Austria in 1885. In 1920, she and her husband Stephen came to Canada and homesteaded at Lady Lake. After her husband passed away, she moved to Sturgis, where she lived for 10 years and then moved to the farm to live with her daughter, Doris Masko and family. Predeceased by her husband in 1947, a daughter Polly in 1925 and a son Michael in 1967, she is survived by three daughters, Doris Masko of Endeavour, Mary Hardy and Pauline DesChamps of Vancouver; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. |
