ALCOCK � Ralph Alcock was born on May 25, 1875 in England. He immigrated to Canada in 1905. He and his wife, Maud, also born in England, lived in Winnipeg, prior to moving to the Hazel Dell area. Ralph passed away December 10, 1918 and was buried in the Hazel Dell Cemetery. ANTONIO - Ethel (nee Dmytriw) Antonio, 72 of Preeceville, passed away on September 10, 1993 in the Preeceville Hospital. Funeral service held at the chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home. Ethel Dmytriw was born on March 2, 1921 in the Hryhoriw district and she was educated at Halycry School. She married William Antonio on December 9, 1939 and they farmed in the Preeceville district. Predeceased by her mother in 1936, her father in 1972, her step-mother in 1977, a brother, Steve Dmytriw in 1984 and two sisters, Anne Shipak in 1955 and Kate Kuziak in 1992, she is survived by her husband, William; a son, Ed Antonio of The Pas; five daughters, Joyce Antonio of Esterhazy, Frances Kashuba of Preeceville, Betty Radawetz of Hazel Dell, Shirley Pozniak of Rama and Geraldine Boudreault of Yorkton; three brothers, Bill of Saskatoon, Mike of Lanigan and Morris of Vernon, BC; five sisters, Olga Kwasney of Porcupine Plain, Mary Hanson of Preeceville, Polly Marchuk of Toronto, Stella Woroniak of Winnipeg and Lena Baron of Castlegar, BC; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. ANTONIO - William Antonio, 81, of Preeceville, died on September 6, 1996 in the Preeceville Hospital. Born on September 15, 1915, to Fred and Sophie Antonio in Hazel Dell, he was educated at Hazel Dell. At a young age, 14, he took over the family farm. He also drove a school bus and worked on threshing crews. He married Ethel Dmytriw of the Hryhoriw district on December 9, 1939, at Preeceville. The couple remained on the farm until 1975, when they retired to Preeceville. He served as a councillor for the RM of Hazel Dell, and often hunted and fished. Predeceased by his parents; his wife, Ethel; and a sister, Hilda Alexson, he is survived by a son, Ed (Darlene) of The Pas; five daughters, Joyce (Ernie) Antonio of Esterhazy, Francis (Alec) Kashuba of Preeceville, Betty (Walter) Radawetz of Hazel Dell, Geraldine (Buddy) Bontdrealt of Yorkton and Shirley (Jerry) Pozniak of Rama; a brother, Dan of Florida; two sisters, Annie Arnie of Porcupine Plain and Alice (Ingvar) Jensen of Fergus, ON; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. BARBER � Harry M. Barber, age 56 of Hazel Dell, passed away on January 27, 1974 in the Preeceville Hospital after a long illness. Born in the Jedburgh district, the son of William and Elizabeth Barber he attended school at Folkstone and moved with his parents to the Hazel Dell district where he attended Wood rock and Shaftesbury schools. He served in the army in 1940 and then farmed at Hazel Dell. He married Selma Reinson of Birimgham, SK. in 1947. Predeceased by his mother in 1955 and his father in 1958, a brother Charles in infancy, he is survived by his wife; a son, Bill of Hazel Dell; two daughters, Verna Karpyk of Sturgis and Ethel (David) Petras of Hazel Dell; a sister, Isabel Bey of Edmonton; a niece Elizabeth Johnson of Regina and a nephew Harold Bey of Edmonton. BARBER - Selma Barber 86, of the Kamsack Nursing Home and formerly of Hazel Dell, passed away on March 9, 2003 at the Preeceville Hospital. Born on March 18, 1916 in Birmingham, SK to Martin and Lena (nee Papelpu) Reinson, she was educated at Birmingham School and by correspondence. On May 18, 1947 she married Harry Barber of Hazel Dell at First United Church in Melville. Predeceased by her parents, Martin and Lena, her husband, Harry, four brothers, John, Philip, August and Alfred and three sisters, Elvina Olson, Julia Gebhart and Matilda Richter, she is survived by one son, Bill of Endeavour; two daughters, Verna (Elgin) Karpyk of Sturgis and Ethel Petras of Lintlaw; three brothers, Mike of Shaunavon and Martin (Helen) and Rudolf (Ann), both of Melville; and eight grandchildren. BUSCH � Alan Busch was born on August 26, 1945 in Preeceville, SK and was the middle son to Louie and Amelia Busch. He was raised on the family farm south east of Hazel Dell. Alan attended Orange Vale School and later Sturgis Composite High School for grade 9 and on. While attending school in Sturgis, he drove school bus. After leaving high school he went to work in a sawmill at Quesnel, BC. He returned to Sask. and worked as a gravel truck driver. In the late 1960�s he returned back to Hazel Dell and continued farming. On December 28, 1972 Alan married Elaine Nettleton and they farmed just east of Hazel Dell until his sudden death on September 4, 2011. He is predeceased by his father and mother; his stepson Marlin (1995). Alan will be lovingly remembered by his wife Elaine; son Owen (Terry-Lynn) and grandson Kaleb; and daughter Arlene (Justin) and grandchildren, Amelia and Garrett; brothers, Brian and Robert (Sharon) and niece Carla (Jim), second nephew Chase. BUSCH � Amelia Busch was born August 16, 1911. She grew up on the family farm north of Melville with her parents, William and Ameilia Wotherspoon, and her younger brother Johnny and sister Annie Mae. On October 15, 1932, Amelia married Louie Busch in Melville and they resided in the Melville area until 1934. On May 12, 1934 they moved to a farm about six miles southeast of Hazel Dell. Louie and Amelia had three sons, Brian, Alan and Robert. Amelia spent her life on the farm; raising three sons and doing all the other jobs that were part of farm live. She kept a large yard and garden. She enjoyed nature and the outdoors. Amelia passed away on July 14, 2006 in the Kelvington Hospital at the age of 94. Funeral service was held at he Hazel Dell Recreation Centre. Left to treasure her memory is her sister, Annie Mae Senft; Amelia�s children and their families, Brian Busch of Hazel Dell, Alan (Elaine) Busch of Hazel Dell and Robert (Sharon) of Yorkton. She was predeceased by her husband Louie, her brother Johnnie and her parents, William and Amelia Wotherspoon. BUSCH � Henry Busch, 70 of Norquay, passed away on September 8, 1988 in the Norquay Hospital. Funeral service held in the chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home. Born on February 17, 1918 at Melville to John and Barbara Busch, he attended Success School in that area. Predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Joe, John and Jacob and four sisters, Lizzie Jager, Mary Quiggle, Annie Busch and Carrie Busch, he is survived by three brothers, Louis of Hazel Dell, Eddy of Edmonton and Anton Busch; four sisters, Katherine Tubman of Melville, Susie McKinnon and Helen Gilmore of Regina and Elsa Cote. BUSCH - Louis Busch, 85 of Hazel Dell, died on May 4, 1990 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral service held in the Preeceville Funeral Home chapel. Born on January 10, 1905 in Neudorf, he was educated at West End Melville School. He farmed in the Hazel Dell area from 1934 to 1987. He was a member of the school board in early years and helped church organizations for many years. On October 15, 1932, he married Amelia Wotherspoon at Melville. Predeceased by his father, John and his mother Barbara and four sisters, Elizabeth, Mary, Caroline and Annie and four brothers, Joseph, Jacob, Henry and John. He is survived by his wife, Amelia; three sons, Brian and Allan, both of Hazel Dell and Robert of Yorkton; two brothers, Edward of Edmonton and Anton of North Battleford; four sisters, Katherine Tubman of Melville, Susan McKinnon of Regina, Elsa Cota of Regina and Helen Gilmour of Regina and three grandchildren. COOK � Margaret Alice Cook 82, of Preeceville, died on July 17, 1992 in the Preeceville Hospital. Born on Aug 20, 1909 in Huron Township, Bruce County Ripley, Ontario, she was the daughter of Charles and Beatrice Taylor. She moved to the Hazel Dell area when she was four years old. She was educated at Turnout School. She worked in the Okla district. On March 5, 1929 she married Kenneth Cook in hr family home. They operated a mink ranch in the Hazel dell district until her husbands� death March 1, 1964. She moved to Winfield, BC for a few years and then returned to the Preeceville area. Predeceased by hr parents, her husband, a sister Florence and two grandchildren, Kimberly Rae and Colleen Gay, she is survived by six sons, Kenneth of Cranbrook, BC, Clifford of Kelowna, Eric of Flin Flon, David of Hazel Dell, Raymond and Bruce both of Preeceville; four daughters, Marjorie (Dick) Reynolds, Bessie (Frank) Arnie of Preeceville, Vivian (Bill) Breti of Richmond, BC and Phyllis (Ron) Zimmer of Radville; two brothers, Edward and Alfred Taylor, both of Kelowna; one sister, Rose (Clifford) Hardwick of Kelowna; 41 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren. COOK � Margaret Laverda (nee Martin) Cook, age 92 of Preeceville and formerly of Dalmany and Hazel Dell, died January 19, 2003 in Spruce Manor Special Care Home. Born on January 29, 1910 in Ontario, she was educated at Hazel dell Country School and Barvas School. On march 8, 1929 she married Tom Cook at Preeceville. Predeceased by her husband, Tom in 1979, her mother in 1924, her father, three sisters, Mary, Hazel and Agnes, three brothers, Sandy, Mack and Donald, and one granddaughter, Melody, she is survived by four sons, Jack (Avis) of Stoner, BC, Arthur of Sardis, BC, Donald (Kubda) if Aldergrove, BC and Bud (Elaine) of Preeceville; four daughters, Dorothy Dolton of Preeceville, Elaine Travis of Saskatoon, Myrna Cherry of Yorkton and Donna Prekaski of Sturgis; one brother, John (Toots) Martin of Flin Flon; three sisters, her twin, Annie Singer of Moose Jaw, Christena (George) Nutley of Cranbrook, BC and Iva Hagglund of Swan River; 25 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren COOK � Thomas Raymond Cook, 71, died October 10, 1979 in Preeceville Hospital, after a long illness. Born at Black Heath, Birmingham, England, to Albert and Phoebe Cook, he came with them in 1910 to Canada and Lethbridge, where he attended school. In 1921, the family took up a homestead in the Hazel Dell area. In 1929, he married Margaret Martin and they farmed in the Hazel Dell area. In 1963, they moved to Preeceville. Predeceased by his mother in 1952, his father in 1956 and a brother Walter in 1968, he is survived by his wife; four sons, Jack and Art of Prince George, Don of Surrey, BC and Bud of Preeceville; four daughters, Dorothy (Murray) Dalton of Preeceville, Elaine (Jim) Travis of Saskatoon, Myrna (Dale) Cherry of Yorkton and Donna (Jim) Prekaski of Sturgis; 25 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. DEMASSON � Leona Cristina Demasson, 74, of Nut Mountain and formerly of Hazel Dell, died on March 17, 1987 in the Plains Hospital in Regina. Funeral held at the Hazel Dell Community hall. Born on June 6, 1912 at Regina, she was educated at the Hazel Dell country school. On January 6, 1943, she married Albert Demasson at Preeceville. She spent her life as a homemaker and a mother. Predeceased by her parents, three brothers and two sisters, she is survived by her husband Albert; a son Louis of Prince Albert; two daughters, Glennis Cook of Denare Beach and Sandra Worobetz of Hazel Dell; two brothers, Tom Mower of Quesnel, BC and Lorne Mower of Nut Mountain; a sister Jean Badovich of Prince George; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. FEDUSENKO � Fred Fedusenko, 81, died on April 17, 1967 at the Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held at Godfrey�s Funeral Home and burial in Hazel Dell Cemetery. He was born in Kiev Russia. He is survived by his wife, Rosie; three sons, Pete of North Surrey, BC, Paul of Delhi, ON and John of Winnipeg; four daughters, Jenny Sinoff of St. Catharine, Lydia Skalozub of Maidstone, SK, Helen Wilgan of Yarrow, BC and Elsie Zachary of Split Lake, MB; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. GLASSPOOLE - Hilda May Glasspoole, age 84 of Hazel Dell, passed away March 18, 1973 in the Preeceville Hospital, after a short illness. Mrs. Glasspoole was born in Beer Dwon, England, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Forcey. She went to the USA with her parents and about 1911 came to the Hazel Dell district, where she married Arthur Glasspoole. They farmed in the Hazel Dell district. Predeceased by her husband in 1959, she is survived by three daughters, Helen Miller of Thunder Bay, Betty Ferris of Regina and Katherine Wunder of Saskatoon; two sons, Arthur of Hazel Dell and Billy of Richmond, BC. KASHUBA � Alec Walter Kashuba, 71 of Preeceville, passed away on October 13, 2000 at his home. Funeral held at the Trinity United Church. Born on July 25, 1929 in Hazel Dell, he attended Hazel Dell School and later worked in the lumber industry in BC. Afterwards, he worked as a truck driver for the Railroad Company and when the rail line to Lynn Lake, MB was completed, he returned home to farm. He married Frances Antonio on July 25, 1959, at the United Church in Preeceville. In the winter of 1963, he began work as a cat operator in northern Ontario, hauling freight across frozen rivers and lakes. In 1964, he started work for Sask. highways, and in 1974; he sold the farm and moved to Preeceville. He retired in 1994 and traveled to The Pas every spring and autumn to help his brother in law on the farm. Predeceased by his parents, Wasyl and Belle, two brothers, Metro in 1983 and John in 1994 and two sisters, Lena in 1993 and Alice in 1969, he is survived by his wife, Frances; a son, Murray (Patti) of Sundre, AB; a daughter, Phyllis (Ron) of Vegreville; a brother, Paul (Mary) of Yorkton; a sister Anne of Prince Albert and two grandchildren. KASHUBA � John Kashuba, 78 of Preeceville and formerly of Thompson Falls, Mont, died on March 22, 1994 at the Canora Hospital. Funeral service held in the Preeceville United Church. Born on December 26, 1915 in Hazel Dell, he was educated in Hazel Dell. He worked for farmers in Alberta and worked in sawmills in British Columbia before moving to Thompson Falls to work in a lumber mill. He married Olive Hagerman in Vancouver in 1955. Predeceased by his parents, William and Delle (Antonio) Kashuba, his wife Olive, a brother Metro, three sisters, Pauline, Mary and Alice and a stepson Orville Hagerman, he is survived by two stepsons, Jack of Thompson Falls and Dick of Kent, Washington; two stepdaughters, Fern (Archie) Tibissco of Moscow, Idaho and Marion (Earl) Bothman of Waverly, Wash.; two brothers, Paul (Mary) Kashuba of Yorkton and Alex (Frances) of Preeceville; two sisters, Lena (Bill) Kozak of Burnaby, BC and Anne (Harry) Ewaschuk of Prince Albert. KING � Mary King of Quesnel, BC and formerly of Hazel Dell, passed away September 26, 1987 at her home. Funeral service was held October 3rd at the Hazel Dell Cemetery, with Rev. Miles Russell officiating. Born on August 13, 1905 in Dublin, Ireland, she came to Canada at a young age and was educated at Montreal. On October 11, 1923, she married Stanley King at Ponteix, SK. They began farming in the Hazel Dell area in 1931. Predeceased by her husband in 1958, she is survived by two sons, Gordon of Preeceville and Alfred of Quesnel; two daughters, Lily Mower and Betty Eyolfson, both of Quesnel; two sisters, Chrissie Gamble and Eileen Windsor, both of Vancouver; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. NETTLETON � Lilian B. Nettleton, died at the Preeceville Hospital on September 17, 1971. Born in England on November 28, 1885, Lilian Cook immigrated to the United States in 1908. In 1912, she went to Invermay and following her marriage to Thomas B. Nettleton; they took up homesteading at Hazel Dell. Funeral service held at Godfrey�s Funeral Home. Her husband predeceased her in 1964. She is survived by a daughter, Freda Armstrong of Fort Qu�Appelle; a son, Cyril of Ashcroft, BC; a granddaughter; five grandsons and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Clair Spohr in the United States. PETERSON � Thomas A. Peterson of Hazel Dell passed away May 17, 2005 at the Preeceville Hospital. He was 93 years old. Born on June 11, 1911 in the Beechy district to August and Winnifred (nee Ryan) Peterson, he had a varied working career. Over 60 years, he worked on ranches in areas around Demaine, Rostern, Lintlaw, Preeceville and Hazel Dell. He hauled cream for the Co-op Creamery for more than 35 years. He worked logging camps, operated a dray and with his wife, ran a general store. He married Ivy Bannister on June 12, 1940 in Rockford. He was widely involved in community affairs, serving on organizations for the hall, curling club, hamlet board, sub unit trustee and municipal reeve. He often emceed events and chaired meetings. He is survived by his wife, Ivy; two sons, Ryan (Della) of Kelvington and Ivan (Gail) of Hazel Dell; one daughter, Hope (Bill) Luciw of Hazel Dell; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. PETRAS � David John Petras, 46 of Hazel Dell, passed away June 13, 1996 in Preeceville Hospital. Born on February 3, 1950 in Invermay, he was educated at Dobrowody School to grade 8 and continued to grade 12 at Sturgis Composite High School. He was a school bus driver for the timberline School Division for 28 years. He farmed with his father for 10 years, and held various other occupations, such as working at community pastures, working for farmers and one summer he worked for Kirsh Construction. He enjoyed doing carpentry work. He played in various bands since 1977 and has played with Midnight Blue for the past 10 years. On Dec. 1, 1973, he married Ethel Barber in the Preeceville United Church. Predeceased by his mother, Lena in 1983, his father, Steve in 1990 and two brothers, Andrew in 1986 and Jack in 1995, he is survived by his wife Ethel; two sons, Kurt and Clint, both of Hazel Dell; a daughter, Kimberly of Hazel Dell; a brother, Victor (Kay) of Toronto; a sister, Vicky (Bill) Stefanyshyn of Hazel Dell. STEIN - Jacob Karl Stein, 66 of Hazel Dell, died on September 3, 1985 at Preeceville. Born on June 18, 1919 in Dubschenatza, Austria, he came to Canada in 1929 and was educated at Strasbourg. He farmed in the Strasbourg area and on October 21, 1950 he married Mary Patrick at the Greek Catholic Church at Preeceville. He settled at Hazel Dell, where he farmed until his death. Predeceased by his father, Fredruck in 1950, mother Elizabeth in 1936, brother Joseph in 1980, a sister Caroline in 1921 and grandson, Curtis in 1983, he is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, Jim of Rosetown, Mike of Saskatoon and Rick of Calgary; nine daughters, Dolly Trohak, Brenda Stein and Cindy Stein, all of Hazel Dell, Margaret Mansuy of Wadena, Adeline Horkoff of Kamsack, Wendy Stein and Patricia Stein, both of Regina and Elsie Stein of Alsask; one sister, Margaret LaBelles of Buckingham, Quebec and eight grandchildren. STOTT � Grace Stott was born in England in 1902 to parents William and Alice Marshall. In 1910 the family immigrated to Canada and eventually settled on a homestead in the Okla district. She married John Stott in 1925. She had one daughter, also named Grace. Mrs. Stott died in 1926. STOTT � John "Jack" Stott was born near Wells, Somerset, England in 1894. He came to Canada as a young man. In 1915 he enlisted in the 44th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. After his discharge in 1919 he remained in Winnipeg until coming to Okla district about 1922. He entered into a partnership in a general store with Ralph Bartley. This was the first store in Okla, which was also the post office. In 1925 John bought out his partners share. The same year he married Grace Marshall and they had one daughter. His wife died in 1926. He kept the store opened and was postmaster until his death in 1955. STOVRA � Lorell Eldan Stovra, passed away on April 26, 2003, at the age of 66 at the Kelvington Hospital, after a short battle with cancer. Lorell was born on October 14, 1936 at the Wadena Hospital, the third child of Berger and Esther Stovra. He was raised on the family farm and attended Scoffield School. He farmed with his dad from 1952 � 56, then rented his grandparents land for six years, while also helping out his parents. After they retired to Wadena in 1962, Lorell took over the home place and farmed there until 1973, working out in the winter. In 1974 he bought land at Hazel Dell where he has farmed ever since. Farming proved to be the work he enjoyed the most, so he was fortunate to spend nearly 30 years on the Hazel Dell farm, where he found great neighbour�s and friends. Lorell was predeceased by his parents, his sister Eunice (Drummond) and his brother, Orville. He is survived by many nephews and nieces. WYBORN � Amelia Wyborn was born March 8, 1858 in Ontario to parents William and Caroline Henry. She married Samuel Wyborn on August 12, 1876. WYBORN � Clifford Henry Wyborn, 67 of Preeceville and formerly of Hazel Dell, passed away March 12, 1987 in the Preeceville Hospital. Born on December 4, 1919 in Hazel Dell, he was educated at Spruce School. Most of his life was spent farming. After giving up farming, he worked on highway construction in southern Sask., then on a gravel crusher in the Prince Albert area. Because of health reasons, he then turned to farm work in the Preeceville area up until the last few years. Predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Davis, Elmer and Edgar and a sister Annie, he is survived by two brothers, William of London, Ontario and Wesley of Lansdowne, ON; six sisters, Mary Langdon of Arthur, ON, Caroline McDonald of Invermay, Irene Howitt of Arthur, ON. Olive Olson of Wadena; Esther Mills of Endeavour and Alvena Oryszczyn of Lintlaw. WYBORN � Samuel T. Wyborn was born on April 6, 1853 in Listowel, Ontario. He was the son of William and Anna Wyborn. His siblings were Henry, Daniel and Sarah Ann. He married Amelia Hay, August 12, 1876 in Ontario. Samuel was a carpenter, farmer and a sawmiller. They came to the Hazel Dell area and took up farming. Samuel passed away in 1920. |
