BAKER - Mabel (nee Langston), born November 3, 1912 at Guernsey, SK, passed away on November 10, 2002, at the Pasqua Hospital. Predeceased by her husband James Baker, her parents Alice and Arthur Langston, sister Grace, and brothers, Ronald and Harold. She is survived by her daughter, Gail (Wayne) Musson, Regina, grandchildren: Debbie (Darryl) Gradiner, Coquitlam, BC, Lynn (Scott) Thomson, Calgary, great grandchildren: Dana Rolfe, Scott and Meagan Thomson. Brother, William (Audrey) Langston, sisters-in-law Virginia and Dot Langston, and her nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Ave, Regina, SK. BENSON - Ida Emma (nee Benson), of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, and formerly of Guernsey, passed from this life into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her death occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at the age of 96. Ida will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and two sons: Olive (Mike) Krysa of Humboldt; Bob Benson of Lac du Bonnet, MB; and Jim (Sandra) Benson of Lanigan. The Funeral Service for Ida will be held at Humboldt Bible Church, Hwy. 20 north, Humboldt, on Monday, November 17, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Jim Mullet and Pastor Ed Fischer. Interment will follow at Sharon Mennonite Cemetery in the Guernsey district. BIEHN - Aaron B., son of Aaron and Mary (Bowman) Biehn, was born in Strasburg, Ont., Jan. 14, 1898; died at Lanigan Union Hospital, Lanigan, Sask., Dec. 4, 1987; aged 89 y. On Mar. 2, 1927, he was married to Melinda Shantz, who died in 1964. Surviving are one daughter (Beatrice Sauder), one son (Donald), 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He was a member of Sharon Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Dec. 8, in charge of James Mullett; interment in Sharon Church cemetery. BIEHN - Alvin Cressman, son of Abram and Mary (Cressman) Biehn, was born at Preston, Ont., Sept. 12, 1887; died at Saskatoon, Sask., Jan. 9, 1982; aged 95 y. In 1919, he was married to Edna Eby, who died on Nov. 20, 1965. Surviving are four children (Cledyth, Ralph, and Gerald Biehn, and Marion Nixon), 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Sharon Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Jan. 13, in charge of James Mullet; interment in Sharon Mennonite Church cemetery. BIEHN - Ralph Eric of Priddis passed away at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (Calgary, AB) on March 2, 2005, at the age of 81 years. He is survived by his son Harvey (Clarice) Biehn, daughter Belva (Garry) Moodie, and their mother Frieda Hoffman; his grandchildren, Michelle (Michael) Biehn, Tracey (Sean) Biehn, Kevin (Amber) Biehn, Jeremy (Naddia) Moodie, and Taya (Darcy) Moodie; and great-grandchildren, Emily and Dylan Biehn, Aurora and Huxley Moodie. He is also survived by his brother Gerald (Clara) Biehn; and sister Marion (George) Nixon; and several nieces and nephews he was fond of. Ralph was predeceased by his infant son Rodney; second wife Allie; and sister Cledyth. Ralph was born February 1, 1924, on the homestead near Guernsey, SK where he grew up. He spent his days as a farmer and truck driver. He was also President of the Calgary Rabbit Processors and had one of the largest rabbit farms in Alberta. He was a long-time resident of Priddis and enjoyed his retirement on the banks of Priddis Creek. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Monday, March 7, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. BOWMAN - Gladys Elizabeth (nee Shuh) passed away at Pioneer Lodge in Moose Jaw on April 13, 2003, at the age of 93 years. Gladys was born April 3, 1910 on a farm near Guernsey, Sask. to Elizabeth and Benjamin Shuh. Gladys went to Normal School in Saskatoon and then taught school in the Lockwood area and at Cana, Sask. She married Fred Bowman in 1932. Gladys was a warm, compassionate woman who served God and others with an uncomplaining heart. She spent many years teaching Sunday school, VBS, and Bible study. She always took time for her family and neighbours and was a wise listening ear. She enjoyed quilting and knitting. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Fred, her son Bob and her sister Florence Verbecke. She is mourned by her children and their spouses: Rod (Juanita), Walter (Beatrice), Bob (Alma) and Ruth (Barry); her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her sister Helen. We have been blessed by her love and prayers. We are sad to see her go, but look forward to the day we meet her again. Funeral Services will be held at Sharon Mennonite Church, Guernsey on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor James Mullet will officiate. Interment will take place in the Sharon Mennonite Church Cemetery. BOWMAN - James Edward. The death of Mr. James Edward Bowman, 71 years, of Guernsey occurred on Friday, December 11, 2015 at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon. Jim was born at home on the family farm near Guernsey on May 19, 1944 to Clayton and Mabel (nee Schroeder) Bowman. He grew up on the farm and attended the Waterloo School, then Guernsey School and the Lanigan High School. Jim worked at Ben Schroeder�s tire shop in Watrous and at various construction jobs with Bob Langner while also farming with his dad. Together they ran a grain and dairy operation. Jim met Isabel Leggott in Grade 12 and the �high school sweethearts� married on July 15, 1967. In 1971, he took over the family farm and continued grain farming only. They raised their two children on the farm and were fortunate to also be able to have their two grandsons TJ and Tryce live with them. He still kept an interest in animals and allowed his children to have a variety of animals to raise on the farm. Other than farming, Jim�s main interest was vehicles. He was always wheeling and dealing on a car or a truck over the years and keeping everything well maintained and clean. He was particular with his yard, enjoying taking the time to care for it properly and keep everything top notch. Jim was a practical man, with high standards, integrity and honesty. He was very much a people person and enjoyed his daily visits to Coffee Row at the Subway, then over to Wongs Restaurant and on to Guernsey for coffee/lunch enjoying the different groups of friends. Here he enjoyed debating politics, catching up on the local news and teasing and ribbing his friends. Jim will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 48 � years, Isabel Bowman of Guernsey; two children and three grandchildren: Shana Bowman (Dwayne) of Sylvan Lake, AB and family, TJ and Tryce of Guernsey and Treytan of Sylvan Lake; and Rob Bowman of Kelowna, BC; his mother, Mabel Bowman of Guernsey; brother Dr. Roland Bowman of Vancouver, BC and daughter Arabella (Paul) Devlin of Vancouver; sister Judy (Don) Seibel of Herbert and family Brent Seibel of Herbert and Tammy (Cory) Rarick and son Owen of Medicine Hat, AB. He was predeceased by his father, Clayton Bowman. The Funeral Service for Jim was held on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Knox United Church, Lanigan, officiated by Jeanette Warrian. Interment followed in the Lanigan Cemetery. BRAY - Keith Axford, August 10, 1919 - May 22, 2004. Keith Axford Bray passed away peacefully at the age of 84 years in Victoria, B.C. Keith was born into humble beginnings on August 10, 1919. He was raised by his father Fredrick, and mother Harriet (nee Lloyd), in Guernsey, Saskatchewan and was the youngest of four children including siblings, Grace, Olive and Clem, who all survive Keith today. Keith enjoyed the prairie life of hunting, skiing, hockey, curling and dances when big bands played on hot summer days by the lake. He enjoyed his school studies, which allowed him to qualify for a trip to England to represent his small prairie school; including a chance to visit Wimbledon and to witness a Royal Coronation (he dutifully reported the sights back to his father in Guernsey, who published the local paper). During World War II, Keith trained with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a pilot and bombardier, but fortunately served no time overseas. After the War, Keith pursued a career in business and eventually became the Manager of Western Canada for The Home Insurance Company of New York (known today as AXA). He retired after working thirty-nine years for The Home - this year marked his twentieth year of retirement. Keith bought his first home in Calgary in 1956 and lived there until this past December, when he decided to pursue a lifetime dream of living in Victoria. Keith's second marriage was to Helen O'Reilly in 1970, which forever changed the lives of her and her children: Patricia Quinn (nee O'Reilly), Sean, and Michael O'Reilly. Helen passed away in 2000 after a heroic battle with cancer. Keith was a dedicated husband and a loving father. He will be remembered, loved, and admired by his grandchildren, Kevin Quinn (seventeen), Jennifer (eight) and Christopher (six) O'Reilly; and daughter-in-law Kim O'Reilly. The family wishes to acknowledge Bonnie and Lloyd Neville (son of Olive) of Victoria, who daily attended to Keith during his stay in hospital. The family plans a small, private ceremony in Calgary to celebrate Keith's life. Any donations can be made directly to the Rosedale Hospice. "Last tap, time out, game over, I win!" We love you Dad. BURKHART - Clarence Leslie � He was born at Elmira, Ont., March 16, 1895, the son of the late Enoch and Hannah (Eby) Burkhart; died of leukemia at the family home near Guernsey, Sask., Sept. 28, 1952; aged 57 y. 6 m. 12 d. He came to Saskatchewan in 1917 and started farming in the Guernsey district. On Feb. 18, 1920, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Snider, who survives. Also surviving are 9 children (Fern-Mrs. Stanley Shantz, Greta-Mrs. Ralph Hawes, Florence, Kenneth, Merle, Mary, Ray, Beatrice, and Berna), 3 grandchildren, 2 sisters (Mrs. Abner Musselman, Elmira, Ont.; and Mrs. Mervin Shantz, Alma, Ont.), and 4 brothers (Lloyd, Emerson, and Gordon, Kitchener, Ont.; and Irvin, Goshen, Ind.). One son (Stanley) preceded him in death in infancy. He took a very active interest in many local affairs and will be greatly missed by the community. Funeral services was held Oct. 2 at the Sharon Mennonite Church, Guernsey, Sask., of which he was a member. The services were in charge of J. B. Stauffer of Tofield, Alta., assisted by Howard Snider and Paul Schroeder. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. BURKHART - Mary Ann (nee Snider) of Guernsey, Sask., in her 82nd year. Born at West Montrose, Ont., daughter of Joshua and Lydia Jane (Clemens) Snider. She lived in Guernsey since 1920. Predeceased by her husband, Clarence L. Burkhart; son Stanley Austin, one sister and six brothers. Survived by seven daughters, Fern (Mrs. Stanley D. Shantz) of Baden, Ont., Greta (Nrs. Ralph Hawes) and Beatrice (Mrs. Walter Bowman), both of Guernsey, Florence (Mrs. John Faccjina) and Merle, both of Washington d.C., Mary (Mrs. Robert Knutson), of Norquay, Sask., Berna (Mrs. Hubert Lokin) of Edmonton, Alta, two sons, Kenneth of Saskatoon, Sask.,, Ray of Oakville; four sisters, Mrs. Lydiann Ginrich of Lanigan, Sask., Mrs Elizabeth Bowman of Kitchener, Nrs. Fred m. (minerva) Snyder, of Waterloo. Mrs. William (Angie) Sommers of Elmira; 28 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was a member of the Sharon Mennonite Church at Guernsey, from which services are to be held Monday, March 14, 1977, with interment in the adjoining cemetery. BUSHMAN - George Peter Bushman of Watrous, Sask. passed away Mar. 16, 2001. He was born Mar. 24, 1911 to Peter and Eliesabeth Boschman in Fischau, Ukraine. In 1926 his mother and 5 children immigrated to Canada, settling in Guernsey, Sask. He worked for various farmers in the community. He accepted Christ during evangelistic services held with Mr. Nightingale in Philadelphia MB Church, Watrous. He put his trust and faith in Isaiah 1:18. In the years 1937-41, he worked for his brother-in-law Dave Braun, who had been diagnosed with TB. In 1941 he married Tina Neufeld. They bought a farm near Guernsey. In 1977 they moved to Watrous, but continued to farm. He prayed faithfully every day for his children and grandchildren and for their salvation. He never faltered in his faith in God, stating, �When I am very weary, I do not pray; I only shut my eyes and wait, to hear what God will say.� Predeceased by a sister and 2 brothers, he is mourned by Tina; children Mary Marciniuk, Vi Rebalkin, Ruben, and Linda McIntosh; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister. The funeral was Mar. 19 in Philadelphia MB Church, with Darren Holland and LaVerne Jantz ministering. CALLISTER - Martha Violet (nee Gudlaugson) was born July 13, 1907 to Magnus and Olina Gudlaugson on a homestead near Guernsey, Sask. In 1911 she travelled with her family by oxen and team from Edmonton by way of Dunvegan to the farmstead at Clairmont. Martha was predeceased by her husband, Jack Callister, her parents; brothers, Oscar, Leonard and Clarence; brother-in-law, Chris Helgason and Jack Haire; sister-in-law, Folice Gradley; stepson, Walter Callister and wife Kathleen; stepdaughter, Connie Wiegand and her husband Howard and their daughter, Ruth Anderson; son-in-law, Grant McKenzie and nephew, Les Gudlaugson. She is survived by her daughter, Ramona McKenzie; grandchildren, Corinne Courture (Shinankoh) and Trevor McKenzie; her brother, Hale Gradley; sisters, Elma Helgason and Ethel Haire; sisters-in-law, Fern Gudlaugson and Vera Gudlaugson; step-grandchildren, Yvonne Forbes, Jack Callister, Sharon Wiegand, Ken Wiegand and their families, numerous nieces and nephews in B.C., Alberta and Ontario as well as relatives in Iceland. At the age of 18 Martha attended normal school in Camrose and then taught school for 40 years, 20 of them in one-room schools in the districts surrounding Grande Prairie, then later at the Cherry Creek School in Port Alberni, B.C. Martha was a very people person and cherished family gatherings and her host of friends. Many of her pupils still remark that she was the best of teachers, as she took such an interest in each one. She was a faithful and active member of the United Church of Canada at Clairmont and St. Andrew�s United in Port Alberni, a life member of the session there. She was also honoured as a Life Member of the Retired Teachers Association. At the time of her passing at the age of 96 she was a resident of Rainbow Gardens Nursing Home. The funeral service for Martha was held at Alberni Valley United Church on November 6, 2003, conducted by Rev. Oliver Howard, with Derril Gudlaugson giving the eulogy. She was laid to rest in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. CHRISTOPH - Helen (nee Myskiw). The death of Mrs. Helen Christoph of the Guernsey district occurred at her residence on Saturday, May 24, 2008. She was 85 years of age. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters: Dolores Christoph of Regina; Phyllis Arnst (friend Andrew) of Guernsey; and Marlene (Don) Brierley of Calmar, AB; grandchildren: Shauna (Rod), Grant (Reena), and Lincoln (Christine); great-grandchildren: Kien, Olivia, Thane, Ethan and Alyse; brother, Eugene Myskiw of Lanigan; sister, Evelyn (Elmer) Greve of Lanigan; sister-in-law, Ethel Munns of Toronto; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Godfrey Christoph; son-in-law, Kenneth Arnst; parents, William and Emily (nee Herman) Myskiw; sister-in-law, Willa Myskiw; in-laws of the Christoph family: his parents, Godfrey Sr. and Barbara (nee Reiss) Christoph; brothers: Adolph, Victor and Ted Christoph; and sisters: Elise (Lawrence), Ivy (Henry), Hannah (Bill), and Anna (Karl). Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. CRESSMAN - Vera Alice Cressman (December 5, 1932 - March 14, 2011). Mrs. Vera (nee Snyder) Cressman of Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of Lanigan and Guernsey), went home to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her death occurred at Humboldt District Hospital in the early morning of Monday, March 14, 2011, after a short illness. She was 78 years of age. Vera will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her devoted husband of 55 years, Stan Cressman of Humboldt; their three sons and two daughters, Ray (Maxine) Cressman of Regina Beach, SK; Joyce (Keith) Wasmuth of Lethbridge, AB; Duane (Lori) Cressman of Abbotsford, BC; Murray (Nadine) Cressman, and Janice (Matt) Munro, all of Saskatoon; three special nephews and one niece (the children of Vera's sister Verna and her husband Bill White), who joined the Cressman family in 1978, David (Karen) White of Blackstrap, SK; Steve (Trish) White of Lanigan; Sharon White (Duane Lees) of Saskatoon; and Andrew White of Lanigan. Public visitation will be held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, 627 7th. Interment will follow at Sharon Mennonite Cemetery in the Guernsey district. DELVER - Mary (nee Waldner) Delver passed away peacefully on Monday evening, March 28, 2005, at Luther Special Care Home. She was born to Jacob and Maria Waldner in Guernsey, SK, on July 29, 1911. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Peter in 1988. She leaves to mourn her children, Larry (Hilary) Delver, Jeannette (David) Christensen, Peter (Deb) Delver, Ron (Arla) Delver, and Linda Horley; eleven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the Luther Special Care Home where Mom spent her last year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Merrill, SK, or Luther Special Care Home. DERKSEN - Albert Jonah (July 31, 1934 - April 20, 2010) Albert, our loving father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away at RUH in Saskatoon. He was predeceased by his wife, Denise; a son in infancy, Joseph; parents, Peter and Nettie; sister, Esther and a sister in infancy. He is survived by his son, Ron (Sherry); daughter, Rhonda (Doug) Snider and their three children, Ken (Michelle), Allyson (Justin) Bernauer, Clay; great granddaughter, Sophie Bernauer; daughter, Donna (Reg Cook); and very good friend, Wilma Fotheringham. A Memorial Service will be held at the J.E.B. Community Centre in Guernsey on Saturday, April 24th, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. DOPKO - Jean (nee Fedorchuk) Dopko passed away peacefully on February 20, 2013 at St. Ann's Nursing Home in Saskatoon at the age of 88. She was born February 10, 1925 at Guernsey, Sk. to a family of 10 children. She spent most of her life on the farm and raising a family near Plunkett, Sk. She moved to Saskatoon in 1981 where she worked at Laura Secord and Harden & Huyse Chocolates. She enjoyed cooking, baking and perogie making. Jean is survived by her sister Rose (John) Mesenchuk of Saskatoon, Sk., son Harold (Judie) Dopko, daughter Darlene (Gord) Knapp, daughter Theresa Dopko, son Rick (Judy) Dopko all of Saskatoon, Sk. and a daughter Lorrie (Rob) Smith of Denver, Co., she is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her quick wit and great sense of humour. Her life journey at the end was full of challenges and we watched her adapt to each stage with grace and acceptance. She will be forever loved and dearly missed. The family sincerely wishes to thank Dr. A. J. Elmer was born on the farm near Guernsey, SK on December 23, 1932. His love for life and laughter was a great encouragement for all who knew him. Elmer was talented musically, directing several choirs and singing every chance he got. He was a well-respected teacher with the public school division retiring in 1987 after 31 years of dedicated service. Sports was another passion of Elmer's. He pitched softball, curled in winter and golfed in summer. Beyond music and sports, next to his love for the Lord, family was his greatest joy. Elmer was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Marie; stepmother, Elizabeth; his brothers, John and Henry; and his sister-in-law, Audrey. He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife, Irene of Saskatoon; his sons, Kerry (Sandy) of Edmonton, Ron (Merle) of Winnipeg; his daughter, Marilyn (Irvin Fehr) of Saskatoon; eight grandchildren; his brother, Herman (Rosalee); his sisters, Mary Mayer, Hilda (Henry) Foth, Hertha (Hank) Siemens, and Kay (Arnie) Willems; sister-in-law, Louise; and numerous nephews and nieces. DYCK - Henry J. of Saskatoon, passed away at City Hospital on Tuesday, January 20th, 2004, after a brief illness. He was born at Guernsey, Saskatchewan and was the fourth child in a family of eight. He was a hard worker, growing up on the farm and spent a number of years working in potash mines and a variety of other jobs. He had a great sense of humour; was a great cook and a good housekeeper. He was predeceased by his wife, Audrey; his parents, Henry and Marie Dyck; and his brother, John. He leaves to mourn his son, Brian; and daughter, Jacqueline; grandson, Jason, and great grandchild, Ryanne, all of Saskatoon; his brothers, Herman (Rosalee) of Nanaimo, BC, Elmer (Irene) of Saskatoon; his sisters, Mary Mayer of Vegreville, AB; Hilda (Henry) Foth, Hertha (Hank) Siemens and Kay (Arnie) Willems, of Saskatoon; his sister-in-law, Louise Dyck of Calgary; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Monday, January 26, 2004, at 1:00 p.m., at Forest Grove Community Church, 502 Webster Street, Saskatoon, SK. DYCK - Katie Dyck passed away July 5, 2005. She was born Feb. 24, 1914 to Jacob and Katherine Dyck in Schonhorst, Russia. Her parents died when she was 6. She was adopted by the Jacob Dick family. They emigrated to Canada in 1924, settling in Baden, Ont., then moved to Guernsey, Sask. She was baptized June 14, 1931 and joined Philadelphia MB Church in Watrous, Sask. She married George Dyck Oct. 17, 1937. In 1946 they moved to a farm in Guernsey, where they lived for 50 years. In 1996 they moved into Watrous. George died in November, 1996. She enjoyed working with the ladies' aid and in the thrift store in Lanigan, Sask. She is mourned by son Ted of Guernsey; daughter Ruth Fogarty of Toronto; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, 6 brothers and 1 sister. The funeral was July 8 in Philadelphia MB Church, with Ernie Bergen ministering. EDIGER - Grant Ediger passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of January 28, 2014. He was born in Nokomis, Sask. on December 13, 1925. He lived his early life in the Guernsey area and then moved to Saskatoon. He was a strong and courageous man, who lived a very full, wonderful life. He was our mentor, our friend, our Dad, our grandpa, great grandpa and great-great grandfather. He taught all so much about life, about love, and about family. He was a sportsman, who spent so much of his life enjoying the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing and sports, especially hockey. He passed these loves on to all of us and they continue to be passed down through many generations. Grant had so many special people whose heart he touched. He is loved and will be missed by his special friend Nora Hall, his children Sonja and Terry Holmes, Gwen Chow, Rick and Nancy Ediger, Bonny and Gord Bayda, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Augusta Ediger, our Mom Heidi Ediger, his second wife Binty Campbell, son-in-law Leo Chow, his brother Bob Ediger, sisters Connie Reinke and Francis Dillabaugh. There will be a gathering to celebrate his life at a later date. EHRY - Bregetta (nee Klassen) was born in the Burr District on December 20, 1924, to Peter and Pauline (nee Germain) Klassen. Mom was raised on the farm near Burr, Sask. and went to Mile End School in the Wolverine District. She was a telephone operator in Wynyard, Sask. Mom married Peter Ehry on June 27, 1951 and they lived in Sinnett, Sask. where she was the post mistress and store keeper. In 1964 they moved to the Ehry family farm near Guernsey, Saskatchewan. They were blessed with 9 children. Mom loved to sew, knit, crochet, and quilt. She made many dresses, doilies, tablecloths as well as a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren. Mom always had a big garden and enjoyed picking berries. She was a wonderful cook and baker. We always had fresh buns or bread for our meals. Mom was a very spiritual person. Her faith was very important to her and she prayed her rosary every day and read scriptures. She was a member of the CWL for many years. Farming was her life and meant the world to her. Having to leave the farm was a hard thing for her to do. Mom lived at the Jubilee Homes in Lanigan, Sask. for several years until 2011 when she moved to her final home in the long term care ward in Lanigan Hospital. Mom was well cared for and will be missed by her family there. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her 6 surviving children Marian Ehry; Karen (Wayne) Hydamaka, and their son Dustin (Justine) Hydamaka; Paulette (Dale) McFarlane, their daughter Kyla (Daryl) and their sons Derek, Brendan, and Trevor; Gerard (Karen) Ehry; Jerome (Shannon) Ehry and their sons Peter and Tommy; Joann (Stan) Poti� their son Ryan (Stephanie), and their daughters Courtney (Mitch) and Megan; three sisters Marie (George) Leniuk, Rita Watson, and Johanna Wilson; two brothers Phil Klassen, Joe (Geraldine) Klassen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her parents Peter and Pauline (nee Germain) Klassen, her husband Peter on July 24, 1988, her sons Garth in 1958, John in 1970, and Barry in 1975, her sisters: Anna, Agnes, Gladys, Ida Dowling, Tillie Zubot and Gert Dueker; and her brothers Peter and Leonard; brothers-in-law Paul Zubot, Lorne Dowling, Howard Watson, Larry Wilson and George Dueker. FACH - Leo C. Fach passed away on March 22, 2005, in Escondido, Calif. Leo was born in Guernsey, Saskatchewan, Canada, on January 11, 1910, one of nine children, and grew up during the depression. He married Vera Bowes on August 2, 1932, and had two sons, Morley and Barry. He started work as a carpenter's helper with only a hammer and saw. Many years later he became a master carpenter and started his own business, building what now would be known as custom homes, from the foundation to the final finishing work. After a tragic home fire in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, he, Vera and Barry moved to Escondido in 1956. There he worked for Weir Bros. Adobe Construction as a finishing carpenter until his retirement in the 1980s. Never fully retired, he always had a hand in woodwork - for his church, for his family and for his friends, often acting as a consultant for other construction workers. He was an amateur prospector with the Lost Dutchman Mining Association. He was predeceased by his wife, Vera, in 1994; his brothers, Harold, Philip and Jerome; and his sisters, Maude, Leuella, Loretta and Emily. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Morley and Lil and Barry and Linda; and two grandchildren, Rachel and Matthew. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary and June. Visitation and viewing will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 27, at Allen Bros. Mortuary in San Marcos. There will be a funeral Mass at the Church of St. Timothy's in Escondido, Calif., on Monday, March 28, at 10 a.m. followed by interment at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido. FARAGO - Vera Farago passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, one day after celebrating her 88th birthday. Vera was born in Guernsey, Sask. in 1916. After attending school, she worked on her father�s wheat farm near Young, Sask. During these early years, Vera spent much of her spare time helping the elementary school children with their extra-curricular activities. As well, she always taught Sunday School at the local church. In 1941, she married Louis Farago, a young teacher in the area, who she had known since she was 15 years old. Vera and Lou lived in the Saskatchewan towns of Strasbourg and Battleford before they moved east to Rainy River, Ont. in 1949 and eventually to Fort Frances, Ont. in 1959. They had three children, Connie (Jack) Rafferty of North Carolina, Donna (predeceased in 1947), and David (Mary) of Wawa, Ont. Vera was predeceased by two sisters, Erna and Esther, as well as two brothers, Arthur and Harold. She is survived by her brother, Berthold, who lives in Vancouver, B.C. Vera, a loving, faithful wife to Lou for 63 years, was a caring, dedicated, and generous mother. She delighted in her four grandchildren, Robin Danis of Thunder Bay, Ont., Mark Whiteside of Calgary, Alta., Jackie Rafferty of South Carolina, and Emma Farago of Wawa, Ont.; as well as her great-grandchildren, Rayanna and Cameron Danis of Thunder Bay, Ont. She was a devout Christian who never lost her faith throughout her life. She was always active in her church in each community in which she lived. She was a member of the Knox United Church in Fort Frances for more than 40 years. She also was a dedicated volunteer worker for many organizations in the communities in which she lived. Vera wrote poetry and savoured the time she spent reading the works of great writers. A child of the soil, Vera loved flowers and always looked forward to planting time in the spring. This gentle giving lady will be deeply missed by her husband, family, and all who knew her. Memorial services will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, with Rev. Marietta Marshall officiating. FEDORCHUK - Joseph, our dear husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather went home to Jesus, November 13th, 2007. He was born February 26th, 1921 in Guernsey, SK to Harry and Anna Fedorchuk. He married the love of his life, Helen Kowbel on July 12th, 1949. Joseph is dearly loved and remembered by his wife, Helen; daughters, Judy (Joe) Fransoo of Meota, SK, Lorraine (David) Grier of Saskatoon, Maureen (Noel) Jenson of Saskatoon; his son, David (Tracey) Fedorchuk of Calgary; 11 grandchildren, Paul (Shelly) Fransoo; Rob (Sarah) Fransoo, Nic (Megan) Fransoo, Rachel (Micah) Friesen; Mitch Grier, Jennifer Grier, and Peter Grier, Nena Jenson, Price Jenson, Grace and Matthew Fedorchuk; four great grandchildren, Cole and Josh Fransoo, Hannah Fransoo and Sarah Friesen; two sisters, Rose (John) Mesenchuk of Saskatoon, Jean Dopko of Saskatoon; and sister-in-law, Mary Fedorchuk of Cranbrook; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a grain buyer for the Wheat Pool for 20 years, a hotel proprietor for three years in Middle Lake and ended his working days delivering the Star Phoenix to outlying areas. Joe had a big heart and loved to be with people at work and at play. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. FERGUSON - Eleanor (nee Spence) passed away on February 7, 2015 in the Lumsden Heritage Home, where she received tender care in her final years. Born February 11, 1923 in Nokomis and raised near Guernsey, she was a daughter of the late William and Winnifred (Beeler) Spence. Much loved mom to Judy (Rob), Gregg, Scott (Shannon) and Marsha (John); loving grandmother to Dana (Jocelyn), Bradd (Amanda), Erik and Riana (Myles); great-grandmother to Brenna. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Allan, by her brothers Ray in infancy, Irwin, Jack, Edward, Gordon and by her sister, Marion. Afternoon tea at the Bulyea Hall on February 14, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. FUNK - Kerby N. Funk left us suddenly at 4:00 a.m. on March 10, 2010 in El Centro, California, three days shy of 57. He was a one-of-a-kind human being whose presence filled whatever space he occupied. He was a fabulous Dad, Son, Brother, Grandpa, Uncle, Boss, Brother-in-law and Friend. Born in Lanigan, SK to Jacob and Marie Funk on March 13, 1953, Kerby grew up in nearby Guernsey and then Prince Albert, SK where his dad built the King Koin Laundromat in the late 1950s. Kerby attended one year of high school at Rosthern Junior College before graduation in 1970 at Prince Albert Collegiate Institute. He attended Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon from 1970 to 1972 where he earned his diploma in Food Services while working part-time at the Clothes Horse. In 1974, he opened his own clothing store, Kerby's Apparel, in downtown P.A. Kerby met the love of his life, Loree Schafer, in May 1975. They were married in Saskatoon on May 20, 1978. Kerby and Loree settled in Langham, SK where they owned and operated the Red'N'White grocery store, and Kerby honed his skills as a butcher. During the early 1980s, they returned to P.A. where Kerby was elected to a term as city alderman. In 1984, he founded TVS The Video Superstore, which he expanded from P.A. to Saskatoon and Winnipeg before selling the chain to Rogers in 1996. Until his death, he owned three more successful video stores in Edmonton, all managed and co-owned by Scott Bates. Meanwhile, he had moved his family to a beautiful home on Cowichan Bay on Vancouver Island. Kerby is predeceased by dad, Jacob Funk, and sister-in-law Ruth. He is survived by his wife, Loree, of 32 years, and sons Brody (Amanda), Matthew (Kim) and Cole; mom, Marie Funk; sister Elaine (Willard) and brothers Wayne (Sheila) and Garth (Anita); grandchildren Emerie, Eden and Parker; in-laws Raymond and Joyce Schafer, Terry (Joan), Kirk (Fran), Kent (Linda) and Kim; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends. GESIOROWSKI - Phillis Ann (nee Twarzynski) was born to Florian and Benedicta (nee Paproski) Twarzynski on November 2, 1933, at home on their farm in the Sinnett district. She grew up there and attended Loyola and Valleyfield schools. On October 20, 1953, Phillis married Joseph �Joe� Gesiorowski at St. Ignatius R.C. Church in Sinnett. They began their life together on their farm five miles north of Guernsey. Phillis and Joe�s union was blessed with three children, one son and two daughters. In 1982, Phillis and Joe built a new home in Guernsey and moved in on November 10th that year. Their son Leonard took over the farm, but Phillis and Joe maintained an active interest and helped out during the busy seasons. Phillis� life revolved around her family. She was a dedicated home-maker and loved gardening, canning, cooking, baking, quilting and crocheting. Her favorite leisure activities included dancing, doing puzzles, and scrapbooking. As well, Phillis was an admirer of the Royal Family and was always interested in following their current events over the years. In August 2012, due to ailing health, Phillis became a resident of Central Parkland Lodge, her home until the present. Phillis will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 61 years, Joseph Gesiorowski of Guernsey; their three children, and eight grandchildren: Leonard (Rose) Gesiorowski of Guernsey and family, Crystal (Eric) Kosokowsky, Carla (Lonny) Hueser, and Amanda (Jason) Kosokowsky; Kathryn (Richard) Gossner of Humboldt and family, Angela (Darryl) Van Os, Brent (Leanne) Gossner, and Cheryl Gossner (Brad); and Helen (Randall) King of Regina and family, Allison King (Chad), and Marcus King (Kara); five great-grandchildren: Joel Kosokowsky, Hayden Kosokowsky, Lily Kosokowsky, Marissa Gossner, and Tanner King; two sisters: Bernice (Bill) Bilous of Nipawin, and Carol Suchy of Guernsey; two brothers: Amel Twarzynski of Choiceland, and Raphael (Theresa) Twarzynski of White Fox; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Twarzynski of Lanigan, and Joan Twarzynski of Prince Albert; brother-in-law, Peter (Olga) Gesiorowski of Humboldt; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Florian and Benedicta (nee Paproski) Twarzynski; one sister, Lucy Baranieski; two brothers: Bernard Twarzynski and Clement Twarzynski; sister-in-law, Helen Twarzynski; brothers-in-law: Carl Baranieski and Walter Suchy; and by her parents-in-law, Charles and Annie (nee Hudyma) Gesiorowski. GINGRICH - Earl passed away on May 18, 2004 at the Veteran's Wing of Wascana Rehab Centre, Regina, Sask. He was predeceased by his parents Ira and Lydia Ann Gingrich, brothers Harold and Cliff and sister Beulah. He is survived by his wife Irene of Imperial, Sask., son Dennis (Gale) of Toronto and grandchildren September, Trevor, Kelly and Penny. Also surviving are sisters Stella and Norma of Winnipeg, brother Cam (Lil) of Simpson, Sask, sistersin-law Olga of New Westminster and Dorothy of Edmonton, as well as several stepchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Earl was born on the family farm near Guernsey, Sask. on May 23, 1917. He received his schooling at Guernsey while helping on the farm. He loved riding horses and playing hockey. He studied Aeronautics at Saskatoon Technical Institute. In 1940 Earl joined the R.C.A.F. where he trained as an aeroplane mechanic. After his discharge he worked on the Alaska Highway. Various careers followed. He worked on the Lassiter project clearing land in the Peace River area where he farmed for a short time. At the age of 49 Earl attended the University of Alberta, and earned a Bachelor Degree in Vocational Education. He taught for 15 years in Edmonton at Harry Ainlay, M.E. Lazerte and Wagner Schools. After Earl retired he published two books. In 1988 Earl and Irene settled in Imperial, Sask. not far from Earl's birthplace. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held in the Imperial United Church on May 24th at 2:00 p.m. Interment is to take place in Edmonton at a later date. GINGRICH - Ira Shantz, son of Abraham and Lydia (Shantz) Gingrich, was born at Elmira, Ont., Dec. 16, 1881; died at the Lanigan Union Hospital, Guernsey, Sask., July 1, 1961; aged 79 y. 6 m. 15 d. On Feb. 23, 1910, he was married to Lydiann Snider, who survives. Also surviving are 7 children (Harold, Calgary, Alta.; Stella-Mrs. Henry Steeves, Rosser, Man.; Clifford, Burnaby, B.C.; Carl, Roycraft, Alta.; Beulah, Chicago, Ill.; Cameron, Guernsey, Sask.; and Norma-Mrs. Malcolm Henderson, Estavan, Sask.), 15 grandchildren, 3 brothers (Addison and Irvin, Guernsey; and Angus, New Hamburg, Ont.), and 2 sisters (Mrs. Selina Snider, Guernsey; and Mrs. Henry Knoll, Elmira). One daughter preceded him in death in infancy. During the European migration in the 1920's, many German-speaking immigrants found temporary refuge in the Gingrich home. He was a member of the Sharon church, where funeral services were held July 5, in charge of Stanley D. Shantz. GREEN - Violet Edna (nee Eby) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at the age of 88. She was born November 24, 1916 on the family farm near Guernsey, Saskatchewan. Edna moved to Kelowna with her family in 1947. She initially worked in the Box Factory at Simpson's Sawmill and in the evenings she packed apples during the fall. She will be remembered by many as the mail order manager at Eatons or as a clerk at Kelowna Builders Supply and Bucklands. Edna had a passionate love of life, family, community and church. She was a diligent volunteer for the Salvation Army, Crisis Centre and later, Hawthorne Park, until failing eyesight curtailed her activities. Edna is survived by her four children, Joyce Murrell of Cache Creek, Jean Ellington of Enderby, Jim Tompkins of Summerland and Barry (Sandi) Green of Parksville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother Leo (Yvonne) Eby of Swift Current and sister Gladys (Fred) Sonmor of Kelowna. Edna was predeceased by her parents, Oliver and Amelia Eby; brother Bill Eby, 2 infant sisters; husband Larry (Lorne) and grandson Glen Tompkins. A memorial service will be held Monday December 13 at 1:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army, 1480 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, with a reception to follow. HABERMEHL - Levi (son of Wilhelm Hebermehl) was born on December 8, 1885 in Baden, Ontario. He married Martha Herner who was born on March 27, 1890 in Cullam, Illinois, the daughter of Herner and Jenny (Snyder) Herner. They had a farm near Guernsey, Sask. They were married in the Sharon Mennonite church there on March 24, 1908. She died in Watrous, Sask. on April 13, 1930. After her death he married Lena Quintaine. He died on November 28, 1963 and is buried in Guernsey. He had seven children namely William, Edith, Gordon, Florence, Clifford, Irene and Della. The story of his pioneering in the west is recorded in the history of Plunkett, Sask. HALL - Fred (1947 - 2010) passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the age of 63 years. Fred is survived by his loving wife, Marlene; sons, Warren and Ryan (Lara); mother, Nora; brother, Bill (Lynda); sister, Carolyn (John) Brown; Marlene's family, Grandma Anne, Alvin (Judy), Larry (Gloria), Brian (Bev), and their families; and all those ever present in his life including, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Carla; father, Jack; and a niece, Jennifer. Fred was born in Guernsey, SK and lived on the family farm for a short while until the family moved to Saskatoon. Fred received his education at Mayfair School and Bedford Road Collegiate. He was employed in real estate by Melton, Ashford, Boychuk and Remax from 1975 until his health left him disabled in 1994. He was passionate about real estate and was grateful for the numerous clients that were loyal to him. Fred often left the dinner table to find that perfect house and loved every moment of it. Fred was a man of dignity, which was even evident throughout his illness. He was cared for in the family home for the last 16 years until his passing. Fred was a loving and devoted husband and father; his children adored him. He was a gentle man who brought joy and humour to all who knew him. He enjoyed socializing and being around his friends and family and claimed his stake at the family BBQ. Fred will be especially remembered for his honesty, integrity, compassion and sharing a good laugh. A Celebration of Fred's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Saskatoon. Interment will be held at a later date. HAMILTON - Borden ("Hammy"). Born September 9, 1919 in Guernsey, Saskatchewan. After a courageous battle with heart problems, Borden passed away peacefully December 7, 2002. Survived by his loving wife, Ruth, of 59 years marriage; daughters, Marilyn (Wayne), Lenora (Ron); son, Daryl (Linda); grandchildren, Shannon (Martin), Rusty, Keith, Debbie (Dave), Tracy (Jamie) and Kyle; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Stan, Ray (Cay), Garth (Audrey) and sister, Iris. Predeceased by granddaughter Leanne and three sisters. He served 4 years in the Army during WW II and worked for Hume & Rumble, eventually retiring from BC Hydro. He was a longtime resident of Happy Valley. He will be sadly missed by family, friends and all who knew him. No service at Borden's request. Private family gathering at a later date. HAMILTON - Bern. (Macomb Journal, Illinois, March 1944 ) Word has been received by relatives here of the sudden death of Bern Hamilton of Jansen, Sask., Ca. last Friday. Funeral services were held Tuesday at that place. He was the son of Frank and Anna Allison Hamilton and was born in Walnut Grove township, Illinois, in 1879. In 1902 he was married to Mettie C. Ellis, and after living in Macomb township several years they moved to near Jansen, Canada. His last visit to Macomb was in the winter of 1936 & 37, when he and his wife and two of his daughters spent several months at the home of Mrs. J.F. Ellis. He is survived by his wife and nine children, all but one of whom lives in Canada. One daughter, Mary Catherine, resided in Macomb with her grandmother while attending Western several years ago. One son John, graduated from Oklahoma A. & M. college and is now at lieutenant (j.g.) in the U. S. navy. He is also survived by two brothers, Ray of northeast of Macomb, and Arthur of California, and one sister, Edith Kirkpatrick of New York. HAWES - Ralph. The death of Ralph Hawes, aged 83 years of Watrous and formerly of the Guernsey District, occurred at the Watrous Union Hospital on Thursday September 15, 2005. The Funeral Service will be held in Philadelphia Mennonite Brethren Church north east of Watrous on Tuesday September 20th at 2:00 p.m. conducted by LaVerne Jantz. Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Greta; five daughters, Carolyn (Kenneth) Bender of Melville, SK and grandchildren, Joel and Kendra; Vivian (Valentin) Cadamia of Langley, BC and grandchildren, Michael, Ryan and Janelle; Margaret Hawes of Prince George, BC; Beverley (Thomas) Griffith of Prince George, BC and grandchildren, Bonny and Georgia; Iris (Robert) Dentz of Brockville, ON and grandchildren, Terri-Lynn and Jesse; sisters, Jean (Lyle) Shantz of Watrous and Ruth Hawes of Regina; numerous nieces and nephews. HOOPER - James "Ralph" passed away peacefully on December 21, 2002. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years Katherine; son Barry (Monica) and their children Tasha and Daniel (Marsha) and their son Ethan; daughter Bev (Rick) Kraft; daughter Dolores (Kim) Scutchings; son Darcy (Patti) and their children Cody and Brittany and special niece Lenore (Art) Erhardt. Born at Strasbourg in 1918, Mr. Hooper, after completing school, worked on his father's farm. He served with the Canadian army from 1942 to 1946, when re returned to the farm. Ralph's employment with Saskatchewan Wheat Pool began in Strasbourg as a helper in September of 1950. In December of that year, he was promoted to agent at Tregarva where he remained until July of 1959, then transferring to Zelma. He served at Zelma for approximately 10 years before transferring to Guernsey in October, 1969. After his retirement, they moved to Saskatoon in 1976, and then to Regina in 1996. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at the Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East on Friday, December 27, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Regina Memorial Gardens Cemetery. HOOPER - Mary Elizabeth (nee Good) passed away peacefully at the Didsbury Hospital on December 9, 2007 at the age of 86 years. Mary was born on July 31, 1921 at Guernsey, Saskatchewan to Josiah and Elma Good. She married James M. Hooper on May 9, 1946 and together they raised five children in Didsbury. Mary was a devoted wife and mother and will be remembered for her excellent cooking and fresh home baked pies. She was kept busy in the summer months preserving the vegetables grown in her large garden. She worked diligently with the Women's Missionary Society of Zion Church. In her later years, she served on the Missions Board of the church. Mary was actively involved with the Red Cross and was kept busy knitting sweaters and baby outfits for the Red Cross. She worked on the tuck cart at the Didsbury Hospital for many years. Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Aspen Ridge Lodge and the Didsbury Hospital as well as Dr. Neil Smit for the compassionate care given to Mom. Mary was predeceased her husband James on June 12, 1994 and her daughter Edna Janssen on December 20, 2003; her brothers Lyle and Art and sister Bertha. Left to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life are sons Robert (Chris) Hooper of St. Walberg, SK, David (Annette) Hooper of Didsbury, Ralph (Virginia) Hooper of Edmonton; her daughter Rita (Hugo) Schwandt of Didsbury; son-in-law Hans (Charlene) Janssen of Olds; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister Edith Dunphy of Calgary; brothers-in-law Stuart (Myrtle) Hooper of Didsbury and Bill Hooper of Lethbridge as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 2:00 pm. at Zion Evangelical Missionary Church, Didsbury. Interment was at 11:30 a.m. at the Didsbury Cemetery. HOPPE - Rosa (nee Detbrenner) was born on December 24, 1913, at Guernsey, SK, to parents Leopold and Louisa Detbrenner. She was raised and attended school in the Watrous - Guernsey area. When Rosa was 17 years old, the Detbrenner family moved north to find work. She met and later married Henry Hoppe on October 28, 1936. They farmed together, raising cattle, pigs and chickens. Rosa also kept a large garden. Farming was hard and Henry worked out often, as well as trapped, which meant Rosa ran the farm. Both Henry and Rosa built their farm together and remained dedicated to it all their lives. Henry died on January 9, 2001, and Rosa remained on the farm with their son Leslie until poor health necessitated hospitalization. Rosa passed away in the Nipawin Hospital on February 20, 2004. She was predeceased by her husband Henry, daughter Adelena in 1999, her parents Leopold and Louisa and her brothers and sisters: Mary, William, Gustofe, Henry, Charles, Fred, Robert, Albert, Lena, Leopold and Bertha. She is survived by her son, Leslie; daughters, Shirley (Jim) Whyley and Hazel (Eric) Strandquist, all of Nipawin; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Anna and Tillie. Funeral services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Nipawin on Thursday, February 26, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ken Maher and Vicar Bill Stanfel officiating. Honorary pallbearers were "All who knew and loved her". Active pallbearers were grandchildren, Sharon Miller, Robert Gerhardt, Zelda Fisher, Walter Gerhardt, Keith Whyley, Carol Meyer, Lyle Whyley and Michelle Whyley. Eulogist was Verda Hoppe. Organist was Kevin Isaacson. Ushers were Bill Langridge and Stan Koehnlein. Memorial book attendants were Marj Langridge and Ruby Koehnlein. Following interment at Mabel Hill Cemetery, family and friends shared in a time of fellowship in the lower hall of the church. HUCULAK - Helen Huculak 1918 - 2007. The death of Helen Huculak, age 88 years of Saskatoon, SK, occurred at St. Joseph's Nursing Home on Sunday, January 14, 2007. Helen is lovingly remembered by her children, Joan (Ken) Lepchuk and their sons, Duane and Darren (Wendy); Marian (Lynn) Driedger and their children, Mark and Krista; James (Theresa) Huculak and their children, Michelle (Jim) and Matthew; and greatgrandchildren, Jacob, Julia, Nicolas, Kelly and Sarah. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Nick; and sister, Doris Stadnichuk. She was born on October 12, 1918 to Aksenty and Mary Hryhorkiw. She grew up in the Guernsey area and then worked in Humboldt and Saskatoon. In 1939 she married Nick and they farmed north of Lanigan. Helen always had a large garden and she worked hard on the farm. An excellent cook and baker, Helen took great pleasure in preparing wonderful meals for her family and for visitors. In 1975 they retired from farming and moved to Saskatoon. When Nick's health began to fail they moved to St. Volodymyr Villa. Helen was an active member of the UCWLC in Lanigan and Saskatoon and had just received her 50-year pin. In 2004 she became a resident at St. Joseph's Nursing Home. A special thank you to the Sisters and staff who took care of her at the home. HUNT - Antoinette (May 10th, 1947 - September 8th, 2012). Antoinette passed away peacefully at St. Paul's Hospital at the age of 65. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Dennis; and daughter, Melody. Also left to mourn are her siblings, Elizabeth (Len), Joe and Agnes as well as numerous in-laws; nieces and nephews. Antoinette was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Stella, as well as brothers, Stan and Felix. Antoinette enjoyed life and loved spending time with family and friends. HUNT - Dennis (April 10, 1947 - October 29, 2012). Dennis passed away suddenly on October 29, 2012 at the age of 65. He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Melody, as well as his siblings, Alice Steranka, Victor (Bev) Hunt, and Evelyn (Dave) Hunt, as well as numerous in-laws; nieces and nephews. Dennis was predeceased by his wife, Antoinette, as well as his parents, Jack and Mary Hunt, and brother, Earl Hunt. Dennis enjoyed spending time with family and friends, loved fishing and the outdoors, enjoyed lively discussions and had a great sense of humour. HUNT - Mary Hunt (nee Burnett) passed away on February 8, 2004 at Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan at the age of 90. Mary was born on May 1, 1913 to Dave and Mary Burnett in Scotland. They came to Canada in 1926 and she married John (Jack) Hunt in 1933. They resided mostly in Lanigan and Guernsey area. She will be remembered by her two sons and two daughters, Alice (Bill) of Exeter, ON, Victor (Bev) of Edmonton, Evelyn (Dave) Martin of Lethbridge and Dennis (Antoinette) of Humboldt; 19 grandchildren and 27 greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Bill of Lanigan and Jim (Arlene) of Ontario; numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, John; parents, Dave and Mary; son, Earl; daughter-in-law, Bess; son-in-law, Andy; three brothers and two sisters-in-law. JANZEN - Annie (nee Neufeld) Janzen passed away Nov. 30, after a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 12, 1912 to John and Mary Neufeld in Prangenau, Russia. In 1926 the family immigrated to Saskatchewan, buying a farm near Watrous. She worked as a housekeeper in Saskatoon for many years. She accepted Christ in 1927 and was baptized in 1928. She married David Janzen in June, 1935. They bought a farm near Guernsey, Sask. in 1941. They retired to Abbotsford, B.C. in 1980, joining Central Heights MB. She was active in the choir, Sunday school and women's groups. She loved holidays, gardening, entertaining and playing games. Mostly she loved being a mother and grandmother. She prayed daily for her children. Predeceased by David in April, 1997, she is mourned by children Leonard of Saskatoon, Ernie of Abbotsford, Naomi Friesen and Leona Spaetgens of Calgary; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister. The funeral was Dec. 5 in Central Heights MB Church, with Henry Wiebe and Ron Redekop ministering. KNAUS - Irene Elizabeth (nee Novecosky). The death of Mrs. Irene Elizabeth Knaus of Guernsey, occurred at Lanigan Hospital, Lanigan on Sunday, May 16, 2004, at the age of 69 years, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Irene will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of 45 years, Vince Knaus of Guernsey; their five children, Sherry (Allan) MacDonell of Thompson, MB, Carole (David) Skorlatowski of Lanigan, Tim Knaus (Sandy Beattie) of Regina, Wayne (Joanne) Knaus of Moose Jaw and Mark (Lori) Knaus of Saskatoon; and by 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. KOMADA - Stanley Joseph, age 77 years, passed away at Sherbrooke Nursing Home with his son David by his side on Sunday, November 4th, 2007. Stan is survived by his son, David (Lorraine Maruschuk); grandchildren, Matthew, Shelby and Kiersten; his sisters, Elizabeth (Len) of Winnipeg, Attoinette (Dennis) of Yorkton and Agnes of Saskatoon; his brother, Joe of Brandon; sister-in-law, Harriet Komada of Saskatoon; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends; and his second wife, Helen. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marjorie (1984); his parents, Anthony and Stella; brother, Felix. Stan was born October 6, 1930 on the family farm near Guernsey, SK and at the age of 15 left the farm to begin his working career. He married Marjorie Palchinski in 1952. Stan retired from the Engineering Department of the City of Saskatoon after 33 years of service. He had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed being a hobby farmer on his acreage near Grandora. Albert, age 82, passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital on Friday, January 4, 2013. He is dearly loved and remembered by his children, Linda Marciniuk, Marjorie Kowbel, Doug (Nancy) Kowbel, Gord Kowbel, and Janine (David) Bubnick; his childrens' mother, Anne Kowbel; eight grandchildren, Kristen, Michael, Stefanie, Justin, Branden, Carter, Hannah and Darah; five sisters and one brother, Helen Fedorchuk, Jeanne (Bill) Shipman, Mary (Joe) Tirk, Steve (Marguerite) Kowbel, Verna Wasylenko, Adele (Ray) Tremblay; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Nick and Rose Kowbel; brothers-in-law, Joe Fedorchuk and Bernie Wasylenko, and nephew, Jeff Wasylenko. Dad was born in the Lanigan District and farmed with Grandpa and Uncle Steve. While farming he worked at the Potash mine when it first opened. In 1972, the family moved to Hafford, where he purchased the Shop-Rite and continued on farming at Lanigan. In 1979 he sold the store and moved to Saskatoon where he drove for the Star Phoenix until his retirement. Following ten years in Vanscoy, Dad moved back to his roots and settled in Guersney. Dad enjoyed all the people he met along the way. He was a great kidder and made friends wherever he went. Dad will be greatly missed. Thank you so very much to the amazing nurses and staff of 6100 at Royal University Hospital for the loving care that you gave Dad in his last days. He was indeed seeing angels! The premature death of Mrs. Constance Krause of Guernsey occurred at Lanigan Hospital, Lanigan, on Thursday, February 17, 2005, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 50 years of age. Connie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of almost seven months, Edward Krause of Guernsey; and by two brothers and one sister: Gary (Ann) Miner of Kenora, ON; Donna (Larry) Wiebe of Saskatoon; and Jamie (Deanne) Miner of Martensville. Jennie passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2004 at Extendicare in Moose Jaw, SK at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; four sons, Clayton, Gary, Roy and Clint; sisters, Caroline, Mary and Eva; brothers, Carl and Bernard. Jennie is survived by sons, Fraser (Kathy), Dick (Lenore); grandchildren, Lauri (Murray), Tracey (Terry), Vallee, Kenneth, Ryan, Jaclyn, Clinton, Richard (Becky); greatgrandchildren, Jessica, Caleb, Liam, Kyra and Brett; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Jennie was born on St. Joseph's Island in Ontario in 1917. Her family moved to Hardy, SK when Jennie was a little girl. She married Kenneth LaVanway and had six boys. After Kenneth's death, she settled in Guernsey where she worked as a cook and housekeeper for 35 years and raised her family. Jennie retired to Saskatoon where she enjoyed socializing with her sisters and friends. Jennie's home since December 2001 was Extendicare in Moose Jaw. Leipert (nee Taylor) of Regina, formerly of Moose Jaw and Melfort, died Saturday February 17, 2007 at the age of 88 years. Born in Guernsey, SK, she was raised and married in Melfort, SK, Margaret was predeceased by her loving partner of sixty-seven years, Les by just seventeen days. Margaret was always very active in the family endeavors and community events. She was very industrious in her crafts. She worked at Canaday�s Apparel Ltd. for fifteen years and perhaps her most favourite work was running the store at Kenosee Gardens. Margaret will be very much missed by her family and many friends and remembered for her quick wit and endearing smile. Predeceased by her husband Les Leipert (January 31, 2007), her parents, Percy and Anna (Keating) Taylor, sister, Eldeen Tieken; brothers: Creighton (JC) and Lyle; brothers-in-law: Richard Buxton and Lee Tieken, daughter-in-law, Jeanne Leipert, and two nephews: Darryl Tieken and Reggie Taylor. (nee McMeans) was born on August 1, 1947, in Humboldt, Sask., to Andrew and Elizabeth (nee Stokes) McMeans. She grew up on the family farm three miles west of Guernsey and attended elementary school in Guernsey and high school in Lanigan. She was raised by her mother as one of Jehovah�s Witnesses and symbolized her dedication by baptism on July 18, 1957. After high school she lived a brief time in Winnipeg and Montreal. She soon returned to Saskatchewan and began working at the Bank of Commerce in Humboldt. This is where she met the love of her life, Gerald Lins, whom she later married on June 22, 1968 in Plunkett. Together they were blessed with two children, Tammy and Sheldon. After the children were born Muriel chose to stay at home and worked side by side with Gerald on the family farm. In 1988 Muriel returned to work at Possberg Pork Farm and continued there until 1996 when she began treatment for breast cancer. She loved to garden and during the years grew and preserved an extensive array of vegetables from her garden. In later years she grew a profusion of cheery flowers around the house. She also loved to travel, and through the years made many trips to British Columbia, and other locations such as Alaska, Banff, Jasper, Yellowstone, and South Dakota. Cancer was not going to keep her from enjoying life, so she and Gerald enjoyed a wonderful Caribbean cruise in 2006. Family was extremely important to Muriel and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She loved shopping for clothes and toys for the grandchildren. She regularly visited them and made every effort to attend their recitals and school events even throughout her illness. She regularly spoke on the phone with her granddaughter in Ottawa and was eagerly awaiting the birth of her youngest grandson during her final days. Muriel fought a courageous 14 year battle with cancer but sadly passed away on August 28, 2010. She will be missed however we are comforted by the knowledge that she is in Jehovah�s memory. We look forward to seeing her again when all those �in the memorial tombs� will be resurrected (John 5:28, 29) to live in a paradise on earth. (Rev 21:3, 4). MAJOR - Margaret Jean (nee Spence), formerly of Perdue, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 13th, 2006 at the age of 92. Holt, all of Saskatoon; and seven great grandchildren; brother, John Spence of Regina; sister, Evelyn (Jim) Murray of Calgary; and sister-in-law, Kate Spence of Lanigan; as well as nephews and a niece. Jean was predeceased by her husband; Stewart; her parents; Harry and Margaret Spence; brother; Forrest (Tuff) Spence; son-in-law; Les Blomquist and sisterin-law; Mickey Spence. Jean was born on March 3rd, 1914 in Guernsey. After attending Regina College she attended the Saskatoon Normal School and then taught at the rural schools of Duffville, Woolford and Pontrilas. In 1940, Stewart and Jean were married and they shared 58 years together in the farming community south of Kinley. She found great enjoyment in gardening, playing cards, reading, visiting and community activities. Jean was actively involved in many sports throughout her life and supported and followed her children and grandchildren in their activities. Jean's family admired her determination and inner strength in dealing with health problems she confronted in later years. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Wilkie Poplar Courts and other caregivers who provided Mom with care in her final years. A private family graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. MacDONELL - Dawnetta Isabella (January 1, 1925 - January 31, 2014). The death of Mrs. Dawnetta "Dawn" Isabella MacDonell of Guernsey, SK, occurred at Lanigan Hospital, Lanigan, Sask., on Friday, January 31, 2014. She was 89 years of age. The Prayer Service for Dawn will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., and the Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Paul Paproski. Both services will be held at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Lanigan. Interment will follow at St. Mary's R.C. Cemetery. McCULLUM - Bert (July 26, 1920 - March 29, 2015). It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Mr. Bert McCullum, 94 years of Humboldt and formerly of Guernsey, on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Humboldt District Hospital. Bert was born to George and Elizabeth McCullum in Ontario. At the age of two with his family he moved to the RM of Wolverine near Guernsey, SK. where his parents homesteaded. He obtained his education at Duffville School. Bert loved rural life where he could enjoy nature and the simplicity of country living. Bert married Elsie (Margaret) Powell on November 2, 1945 at Knox United Church in Lanigan, SK. Together they operated a mixed farm for many years and were blessed with five children. Bert served on the Guernsey Knox United Church and the Duffville school boards for many years. He was a very well read man who was interested in current affairs and the world around him. On a daily basis he kept up with local and national news and loved to discuss the issue with everyone He loved his children and grandchildren very much and spent many hours sharing stories and teasing them. Bert was a very hard working man but never had a problem stopping work to have a coffee and visit with family and friends. Bert and Margaret made annual trips to BC to visit family. They also shared many one and two day trips around the province of Saskatchewan. For relaxation Bert read many books especially western novels. He thoroughly enjoyed living in the same yard with his son Larry and his family. Bert took great pleasure in gardening and was especially proud of his fruit trees. He spent many Monday nights at the local senior�s club where he loved playing pool and Kaiser. In the fall of 2014 Bert moved to Caleb Village in Humboldt, SK. There he adjusted well to the "city" life and enjoyed visiting with his neigbours who will miss his great sense of humour. MULLETT - James Mullet. Jim was born in Glendive, Montana on August 19, 1925 and passed away at the Nokomis Health Centre, Nokomis, Saskatchewan on October 31, 2013 at the age of 88. Jim received his grade school education at Morgan Creek School, Dawson County, Montana and graduated from Dawson County High School, Glendive Montana. He studied Bible at Ontario Mennonite Bible Institute, Kitchener, Ontario and Eastern Mennnonite Seminary, Harrisonburg, Virginia. He married Leah Belle Kauffman at Bloomfield, Montana on June 4, 1948. In 1962 he moved with his family to Guernsey, Sask. to pastor Sharon Mennonite Church. He later pastored Bethany Mennonite Church near Watrous, Sask. and New Hope Community Church in Humboldt, Sask. Many lives were changed through his preaching, counselling, and deliverance ministry. He was also a farmer, construction worker, drywall expert, telephone lineman, hatchery worker, and poet. Jim served as chairman of MCC Saskatchewan, chairman of Northwest Conference Misssion Board, chairman of Mennonite Church Canada Region One, member of MCC Canada directors, member of Mennonite Board of Missions and as camp director at Christopher Lake. Jim enjoyed many other activities: hunting, beekeeping, stone masonry, rustic furniture-making, weather tracking, star gazing, bowling, gathering firewood, planting trees, making Maple syrup, gardening and yard work, playing games, solving puzzles, berry picking, reading Louis L'Amour books, bird watching, memorizing and reciting scripture and poetry, and story-telling. He also loved to visit friends and relatives and regularly attended all family reunions, weddings and other significant events. In later years, he enjoyed rug making and delivering papers in Drake. Some of Jim's fondest memories included: hunting with his sons in Montana and Northern Alberta, living with his wife on the farm southwest of Guernsey, Saskatchewan, raising purebred Herefords, hiking in the badlands of Eastern Montana, the night he gave his heart to the Lord, pastoring at Paul's R.V. Park in Brownsville, Texas, and bowling 245 in ten pin. He was predeceased by his father Menno Mullet and his mother Ora Pearl (Chaney) Mullet, sisters Lillian Davis, Margaret Bidwell, Jesse Evans, and Lucille Holderman. He is survived by: his wife Belle Mullet; siblings Ruby Stanley, Gladys Kauffman, Eunice Field, and Keith Mullet; children Wendell Mullet (Joyce), Rebecca Kennel (Galen), Dan Mullet (Barb), Lina McDonald (Rob), Mary Ann Mullet (Keith Hatchard), ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Interment will be held at Sharon Cemetery on November 9, 2013 at 1:00 pm with Funeral Service to follow at Northstar Mennonite Church in Drake, Saskatchewan at 2:30 pm. NEUMANN - Rachel (nee Katz). The death of Rachel age 87 occurred on Saturday, July 17 at St. Paul's Hospital in the Palliative Care Unit. Rachel was born on March 21, 1917 in Guernsey, Saskatchewan. Showing a deep interest in agriculture, she moved to Saskatoon in 1943 where she was employed as Poultry Division Manager for the-then Saskatchewan Co op Creamery. She would also in 1943 meet Herman Neumann and marry him in 1946. Rachel was predeceased by her parents, David and Freda Katz, her brother Abe, sister Minnie and her beloved husband of 57 years, Herman. She is survived by two sons, Jack of Calgary and Seymour of Edmonton, cousins Maurice (Dr. Shnider) of Winnipeg, Merle, Etta, Jack and Sylvia of Long Beach and Cypress CA. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rudolph "Pat " Petrich, resident of Lutheran Sunset Home in Saskatoon, on January 5, 2007, at the age of 99. Pat was born in the R.M. of Hoodoo, SK, spent his early years and received his education in Saskatoon, during which time he met his wife Hannah (Schoeder). They moved to Jansen, where they operated Petrich's Store for 58 years. Pat was a very loving and devoted family man. RADKE - Clinton Louis Radke passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 31, 2005. Clinton is survived by his wife, Clara (nee Hilcox); two daughters, Rio Ryon and Marilyn (John) Brown; and daughter-inlaw, Karen Radke; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; nine brothers; two sisters; numerous cousins, sisters and brothersin-law; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Dale; three brothers; and one sister. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. RITTER - Alfred Joe (February 19, 1947 - August 15, 2010). It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Little Joe, nicknamed after his hero Joe Cartwright, from his favorite TV show, Bonanza. Alfred was predeceased by his mother and father, Bertha and Adolph Ritter; brothers, Bert and Bernard Ritter; sister, Adelma English, and brother-in-law, Manuel Roussy. He is survived by his sisters, Evelyn Roussy and Agnes (Arnold) Kriese; sister-in-law, Mildred Ritter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe has a special place in all of our hearts. He was born with Down Syndrome at a time when programs were not available to assist individuals and families. Alfred grew up on the family farm near Guernsey, Sask. He enjoyed the outdoors and being with the farm animals, until he moved to Saskatoon with his parents in 1968. Shortly after, he became a part of Cosmopolitan Industries, where he worked for many years and developed many skill sets. He enjoyed the people he worked with and this became a very important part of his life. Alfred remained with his parents until they were no longer able to care for him due to their declining age and health. He has since had numerous care givers. For the last two years, he has lived at Parkridge Centre, where he received excellent care and quality of life. Throughout Joe's life, he encountered many medical challenges but he beat the odds and far exceeded his life expectancy. Joe's sense of humour touched all who knew him and he will always be remembered as a real character. It is with heavy hearts that the family of Frank Rogalsky announce his passing on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the age of 85 years. Dad grew up in Guernsey, SK and then moved to Saskatoon where he worked as a Transit bus driver from 1959-1989; his final retirement years were spent in Marcelin, SK. The family requested a private Graveside Service in the Marcelin Cemetery. ROSENBERGER - Isaiah S. Rosenberger, minister of the Blenheim Mennonite Church near New Dundee, Ont., and the Sharon Mennonite Church near Guernsey, Sask, was born in Oxford County, Ont. on 15 August 1867 and died at Beamsville, Ont. on 28 November 1949. He married Persida Shantz on 29 September 1891. They were the parents of eight children. Persida died in May 1939 and Isaiah married Nancy (Cressman) Moyer on 19 August 1945. In 1897 Isaiah Rosenberger was ordained as a minister and a helper to Joseph Nahrgang in the Blenheim congregation near New Dundee, Ont. He served as assistant and then as pastor of that congregation until 1908 when the family moved to the recently established pioneer Mennonite community at Cressman near Guernsey, Sask. At Guernsey he served as an assistant to Bishop Eli S. Hallman and as pastor of the congregation from 1912 until 1919 when Hallman was in the United States. His workload eased when Hallman returned in 1919 and Moses H. Schmitt, a minister ordained in the West Zion Mennonite Church near Carstairs, moved to Guernsey. Rosenberger was one of the pioneers of the Quill Lakes Mennonite reserve near Guernsey. He faithfully served the Sharon Mennonite Church there, and the Alberta-Saskatchewan Mennonite Conference with which the Sharon church was affiliated, until he returned to Ontario in 1936. There he renewed his fellowship with the Blenheim congregation where he remained until death. His fellowship and service with that congregation were greatly appreciated during the time of his residence there. SAMOLESKI - Stanley Joseph. The death of Stan Samoleski of Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan, (and formerly of Guernsey), occurred at his residence on Sunday, February 24, 2008. He was 76 years of age. Stan will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 20 years, Joyce (nee Gagne) (Webb) Samoleski of Guernsey; three sons and one stepson: Lesley Samoleski, Mervin Samoleski, Teddy Samoleski, and Allan Webb, and their families. The Prayer Service for Stan will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at 7:30 p.m., and the Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, February 28, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Louis Hoffart, OMI. Both services will take place at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Lanigan. Interment will follow at St. Mary's R.C. Cemetery. SHANTZ - Angeline (nee Snider), daughter of Henry and Maryann Snider, was born near Elmira, Ont. April 23, 1876, died in the hospital near Guernsey, Sask., January 22, 1952 aged 75 years 8 months and 30 days. In 1906 she was united in marriage to Henry Cyrenas Shantz, who survives her. Also surviving are 4 sons (Wesley, Arthur, and Lincoln, all of Guernsey, and Leonard, Elmira, Ont.), 2 daughters (Eileen - Mrs. Harold Biehn, and Olive - Mrs. Clair Biehn, both of Guernsey, Sask.), and 27 grandchildren. One son (Daniel) predeceased her in his infancy. In 1907 she and her husband moved to Aldersyde, Alta., where all the children were born. In 1929, the family moved to Guernsey, Sask., where they have resided ever since. She was a member of the Mennonite Church since her youth. Funeral services were held at the Sharon Mennonite Church January 25th in charge of Howard M. Snider and Stanley D. Shantz. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery. SHANTZ - Arnold Wilfred (June 6, 1915 - May 31, 2004). Arnold's passing occurred at Watrous following a brief stay of 2 weeks in palliative care. Although anticipation of his eternal home was utmost on his mind during those final days, he never lost his enthusiasm of being the caring, compassionate, motivating individual that we had all learned to love. Arnold is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Reta; his children, Ross (Betty) and Neil (Corinne); and his very special grandchildren, Troy (Heather), Cory, Ryan, Reagan and Renee; and by his brother, Lyle (Jean). Arnold was predeceased by his parents, Addison and Priscilla; his brother, Stanley; sister-in-law, Fern; great-nephew, Trevor. A Service of Celebration will be held at Philadelphia Mennonite Brethren Church, 9 miles NE of Watrous on Friday, June 4 at 2:00 p.m. SHANTZ - Dorothy Jean (nee Hawes). It is with sadness that we announce the death of Jean, aged 84 years, of Watrous, Sk. Her passing occurred November 13, 2014 at her home, following two years of declining health. Left to cherish her memory and life are her husband of 64 years, Lyle Shantz, children Jan (John) Rempel, Don (Pat) Shantz, Sandy Shantz, Lucy (Howard) Toews, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, sister Ruth Hawes and sister-in-law Greta Hawes. She was born February 21, 1928 to George and Ada (Rosenberger) Hawes, on the family farm near Guernsey and attended Waterloo School. During her youth she accepted Christ as her Saviour and this faith sustained her throughout life. Following her marriage they farmed with Lyle's brother Arnold, and his wife Reta on the land homesteaded by Lyle's father, until retiring into Watrous in 1981. She was an excellent seamstress, and designed and sewed anything from children's clothing to wedding and graduation gowns. Despite taking only one music lesson she could play any song on the piano and organ, serving as the organist for many years in both Sharon and Philadelphia churches. Once her children were older we saw Jean's creative side emerge. She enjoyed horticulture and flower arranging. This started with exhibiting flower arrangements and grew into serving as a judge at many local and provincial horticultural shows. Following the death of her eldest grandson she starting painting and this became another avenue for the expression of her creative side. Watercolour was her favourite media. This led into other crafts such as making greeting cards. She enjoyed these creative pursuits until her health failed. She enjoyed her family and spending time with her grandchildren and in later years her great-grandchildren. She was at her best when she was caring for others and spent many hours playing music for the residents of Manitou Lodge. As her health failed she used the phone to keep in contact with family and friends across the country. Though her death creates a void in our family's life we take comfort in the fact that she that she has been released from struggles with poor health and look forward to a reunion in heaven. A Celebration of Jean's life will be held in Philadelphia Mennonite Brethren Church on Monday, November 19th at 2:00 p.m. Interment in the Sharon Church Cemetery, Guernsey, SK SHANTZ - Reta Mae (nee Snyder) July 16, 1914 - September 17, 2011. Reta peacefully passed away at Spruce Manor Nursing Home in Dalmeny, on the morning of September 17, 2011. Reta is survived by her sister-in-law Dorothy Snyder; brother-in-law Lyle and Jean Shantz; sons, Ross (Betty) and Neil (Corinne); five grandchildren, Troy (Heather), Ryan (Sarah), Cory, Reagan, and Renee (Ryan) Campbell; as well as five great grandchildren, Libby, Callum, Tully, Kellie and Evlyn. Reta was born at Waterloo, Ontario as the third of four children. She married Arnold Shantz from Guernsey, Saskatchewan on November 6, 1943. Reta and Arnold moved back to Saskatchewan in the spring of 1946 to begin a long career in farming near Guernsey where they partnered with Lyle (Arnold's brother) and his wife Jean. Sharon Mennonite Church was Mom's spiritual home for many years. She was faithful in serving in so many aspects of the church community. Her faith in God was most vividly expressed as she lived her life each day. She thoroughly enjoyed her family and friends as well as her hobbies of gardening, caring for her yard, and quilting. Her quilts were amazing and frequently brought many bids at the annual MCC sale in Saskatoon. She was a wonderful mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and friend and will be missed by many. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Reta's life at the Philadelphia Mennonite Church near Watrous on Friday, September 23 at 2:00 p.m. The family would appreciate if memorial donations were made to The Gideons. SHANTZ - Ross Arnold Shantz - born July 27, 1946 in Watrous, Saskatchewan, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Ross is survived by his wife Betty, son Cory, and daughter Renee (Ryan) and three amazing granddaughters Kellie, Amy, and Mia. Ross enjoyed a wonderful childhood, growing up on a farm near Guernsey as an older brother to Neil and four close cousins who lived just across the road Jan, Don, Sandy, and Lucy. The experience of being raised on a two family farm in such a positive family and Christ-centered atmosphere launched Ross into combined careers associated with agriculture and service to his local and extended church communities. Ross had attended Ontario Bible School for one year following his graduation from Lanigan Central High School. He then completed a two-year course in Agriculture Mechanics at SAIT in Calgary in preparation for life on the farm at Guernsey following the footsteps of his father and grandfather. Ross and Betty partnered with Don and Pat in the farming business that Ross loved so much. Ross enjoyed life in so many ways. During his young adult years, basketball, boats, motorcycles, trucks, fishing, water skiing and travel filled his time beyond farming. Ross' extracurricular activities were significantly upgraded in 1975 when he met Betty, the love of his life and his wife for the next 38 years. Raising a family, operating a large mixed farm, and serving in his church community became his focus. Ross had an incredible servant heart and this amazing quality served him faithfully throughout his entire life as he touched so many people in his family, business, and church community. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. SHANTZ - Stanley Devitt, minister and bishop of the Sharon Mennonite Church at Guernsey, Sask., the Holyrood Mennonite Church in Edmonton, the Baden-Geiger Church in Baden, Ont., and First Mennonite Church in Vineland, was born 23 May 1914 near Guernsey, Sask., and died 1 March 1990 in Kitchener, Ont. He was married to Fern Burkhart on 22 April 1945. They had three sons and one daughter. Fern (Burkhart) Shantz died in 1979, and on 6 April 1985 Stanley Shantz married Kathryn Yoder. Stanley Shantz received Christ as his savior at an evangelistic service in the summer of 1928 and was baptized and received into the fellowship of the Sharon Mennonite Church at Guernsey, Saskatchewan, in September of 1928. He was active in the congregation as chorister and Sunday School Superintendent. In 1937 he spent three months at the Ontario Mennonite Bible School, and the 1940 and 1941 winter terms at the Regina Bible Institute. After his marriage in 1945 the couple took up residence on their own farm. It was here that their children were born. On 13 June 1943 the Sharon Mennonite Church at Guernsey ordained Stanley Shantz as a minister in the congregation. He was ordained as bishop on 1 July 1952. Stanley Shantz had a keen interest in missions, serving as president of the Alberta-Saskatchewan Mennonite Conference's Mission Board for a number of years. He proved his interest in missions in a practical way when, while still farming in the Guernsey area, he and his family spent two winters at Calling Lake, Alberta. That service brought him into very close contact with Ike and Millie Glick and with other members of the Edmonton Mennonite Fellowship (later renamed the Holyrood Mennonite Church). He accepted a call to serve as the pastor at Holyrood in 1962, remaining there until 1971. The parsonage became a convenient stopping off and resting place for many missions and voluntary service workers in northern Alberta, with Fern serving as the quiet and gracious hostess for the many visitors. In 1972, in response to a call from the Ontario Mennonite Conference, Stanley Shantz accepted a call to serve the Baden-Geiger congregation in Ontario as pastor. Later, Stanley Shantz served as pastor of the First Mennonite Church at Vineland, Ontario, and as interim pastor in a number of congregations. SHANTZ - Wilma Fern (nee Burkhart), daughter of Clarence and Mary Ann (Snider) Burkhart, was born at Guernsey, Sask., January 28, 1921; died at the K-W Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., January 29, 1979; aged 58 years. On April 22, 1945, she was married to Stanley Shantz, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons (Calvin L., Nelson C., and Melvin S.), one daughter (Elinor Joanne - Mrs. Don Gingerich), 2 grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters (Greta, Florence, Kenneth, Merle, Mary, Ray, Berna, and Beatrice). Funeral services were held at Steinman Mennonite Church on February 1, in charge of Vernon Zehr; interment in the Wilmot Mennonite Cemetery. SHUH -� Benjamin Bowman Shuh was born March 14, 1880, in Perth Co. Ont., near Listowel; passed away July 4, 1949; aged 69 years 3 months 20 days. In 1890 he moved with his parents to Kitchener, Ont. (then Berlin, Ont). In 1898 he accepted the Lord and was a faithful member of the church until death. In the pioneer days of 1905 he homesteaded in Guernsey, Sask., on the land on which he still lived at the time of his passing. On February 26, 1908, he was married to Elizabeth Betzner, who survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters (Mrs. Fred Bowman, Mrs. Merle Baker, both of Guernsey, Sask.; and Mrs. Jules Verbeck, Toronto, Ont), one brother (Melvin, Kitchener, Ont), and one sister (Mrs. Jean Lang, Preston, Ont). Two children predeceased him in childhood. His passing was unexpected, occurring while he was attending conference sessions at Tofield, Alta., after a severe heart attack and a few hours' illness, at the home of J. B. Stauffer. He was a faithful worker in Sunday-school and church activities, having taught a young men's class in the early days and later an old men's class. Funeral services were held at the Sharon Mennonite church, Guernsey, Sask., on July 8 by Dan Schlabach and Stanley Shantz. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery. SNIDER - Bertha Viola (nee Bowman) January 27, 1915 - April 6, 2014. The death of Mrs. Bertha Viola Snider aged 99 years of Watrous, SK. and formerly of the Guernsey District occurred peacefully at the Watrous District Health Complex on Sunday April 6, 2014. Bertha was predeceased by her husband Elmer and a son Les. She is survived by her daughter Ruth (Jake) Sawatzky and son Boyd (Elaine); granddaughters, Corinne (Alain) Caissie and Carla Snider; great granddaughters Anik and Elise. A visitation for family and friends will held in Fotheringham�s Funeral Chapel on Friday at 7:00 p.m. SNIDER - Doreen Mabel Snider passed away peacefully at her home in Drake, Sask. on Friday April 19, 2013 at the age of 93. She was born on October 11, 1919 to Abraham and Selina Snider on the family farm. She took her schooling at Mohawk Park School where she completed her grade 11 education. She attended Sharon Mennonite Church southwest of Guernsey SK. She married Ken Snider in October 1939 and they raised their family and resided on the family farm until 1981 when they purchased their house in Guernsey. In May 2008 she moved to Drake and resided there until her passing. She was involved in many community service groups, 4H, Homemakers, Sunday school, Celebrate Sask Committee, TOPS, MCC Relief Auction and Lanigan Community Gift and Thrift Store. Her pastimes were Writing, Quilting, Knitting, sewing, gardening and reading. She was a published author having written "Call to a place" and the history of the rural municipality of Usborne #310. She was a news reporter for 4 local weekly newspapers for a number of years. She and Ken enjoyed travelling with friends on numerous occasions. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Ken (2003), son-in-law Earl Schmidt (2010), daughter Brenda Hebig (2010), brother-in-law Stuart Karn (2000),. She is survived by her sister Hazel Karn, her children Gail (Albert) Morisey, Wilf (Margaret) Snider, Linda Schmidt, Gord Hebig (son-in-law), Doug (Rhonda) Snider, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and in-laws. SPENCE - John Harold passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the age of 98 years. Left to remember and celebrate John's life are his son Rod (Debbie); three grandchildren, Jessica (Keith) Jeannot, Christian Mounts, E.J. Mounts (Andrea), all of Regina; six great-grandchildren; sister Evelyn (Jim) Murray of Victoria; as well as four nephews and three nieces. John was predeceased by his wife Mickey; his parents Harry and Margaret Spence; brother Forrest (Tuff) Spence; sister Jean Major; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stewart Major, Kate Spence, Bill and Edna Miller, and Bill and Phyllis Tout. John was born on December 25, 1915 in Guernsey SK, where he grew up and worked at the family business, H.A. Spence & Company. This consisted of the hardware store, lumber yard, bulk gas and oil service, the post office and farm land. John later became a partner in the business with his brother Tuff. John served in the Royal Canadian Navy in the Second Word War, as well he worked on the Alaska Highway as a cat skin operator. John joined the Saskatchewan Transportation Company on November 30, 1946 where he drove bus until his retirement in 1980. John enjoyed all sports, but his many fishing trips up north with his buddies, as well his passion for curling, partaking in many bonspiels enjoying the camaraderie and socializing involved with both were his favorites. Camping and boating were always on the summer calendar with weekends spent at Rowans Ravene and Echo Park. John lived his life on his own terms and always gave his unwavering support to his family and friends when in need. As a testament to John, he was a very proud and independent man who lived on his own in his one bedroom condo on Westfield Drive until his was 98 years old. His door was always open for a visit and a cocktail(s), also proudly showing his guests his dishwasher turned into liquor cabinet. John had tremendous support from his family assisting him in living on his own. But more importantly he was blessed with many friends who opened up their lives including John in their activities. There are so many of you to thank and would like to do so individually at John's celebration. Thank you to all. It is with deepest sorrow we announce Annie Stabler's passing on Tuesday, March 23, 2004. She was born in Guernsey SK on October 18, 1918 to Paul and Susie Waldner. She married Wilmer (Bill) Stabler on October 8, 1940. They were blessed with five children. Annie was predeceased by her husband, Bill in 1976; daughter, Caroline Pearce (1987); son-inlaw, Bob Pearce (1994); and siblings, Mike, Andrew, Barbara and Sarah. She is survived by her sister, Mary; Caroline's children, Fred (Margo) and their daughter, Courtenay, Robert (Karen) and their children, Caroline and Rylee, and James (Roxanne); son, Garry Shoofey Stabler (Liz) and their children, Rae and Dawn; daughter, Wilma (Jim) Hall and their children, Darcy, Kim and her daughter, Candace, and James (Kim) and their children, Mackenzie, Colby, and Emily; daughter, Joyce (Brent) Foulger and their son, Quinn; son, Rod (Brenda) and their children, Justin and Kelsey. Mom enjoyed her family especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crafts and tending to her large flower and vegetable garden. To honour mom's wishes a private family graveside service will be held on Friday, March 26th, 2004 officiated by Pastor Terry Sparks. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Saskatoon Convalescent Home for their care over the past five years and especially during her final days. STACKHOUSE - Cyril "Keith" (1920 - 2004). Keith Stackhouse passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 after a brief battle with cancer. Keith was born and raised in Guernsey, SK. Immediately after graduating from high school he joined the RCAF and stayed in service until the end of World War II. Upon discharge he entered the University of Saskatchewan, graduating in 1948 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. The next two years were spent in the Okanagan until the oil boom offered new job opportunities in Calgary, where the family settled in 1950. An ardent curler, Keith played in and won many bonspiels in the 1950's and early 1960's, and was also well-known for many years as a draw master, notably for the Oilmen's and the Southern Alberta Men's and Ladies' bonspiels. After retirement in 1982 he was an active partner in The King's Corner Christian Bookstore until 1996. Keith is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Evelyn; and by his three children and their spouses, Diane and Jim Adams, Donna Mae and Allyn Humber and Darryl and Laurie Stackhouse, all of Calgary; and by seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Keith will be missed by his family and friends, but rather than mourn his death we will gratefully remember the many good years and happy memories we shared with him. Funeral Services will be held at Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.), on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. SUCHY - Walter. The sudden and unexpected death of Mr. Walter "Wally" Suchy, 64 years, of Guernsey, occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, on Wednesday, December 12, 2001. Wally will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife, Carol (nee Twarzinski) Suchy of Guernsey; their five children: Patricia (Andrew) Laskowski of Guernsey; Richard (Elan) Suchy of Lanigan; Ronald (Cindy) Suchy, and Russell (Lola) Suchy, all of Guernsey; and Christine Suchy (friend Jason Schlachter) of Humboldt; and by 12 grandchildren. The Prayer Service for Wally will be held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Lanigan, on Sunday, December 16, 2001, at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered from St. Mary's on Monday, December 17, 2001, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Rev. Fr. Jim Moss. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery. SWITZER - Grace Switzer was born July 4th, 1910 at Gladstone, Manitoba to William and Annie Switzer. They moved from Gladstone to Wapella, Sask. in the year 1912 and then to Guernsey, SK. in 1919. Grace attended school in Guernsey and after her schooling she worked in the post office. Grace's brother, Lloyd was born December 11th, 1920. It was the beginning of the dry years and farming was very poor in Guernsey, so her Dad decided to go north. He rented land in the Star City area for one year in 1928. It was during the move north that Grace's mother died of complications from mumps at the age of forty-two. Grace quit her job at the post office in Guernsey and came home to Star City to make a home for her father and brother. A year later they moved to the Pontrilas area. Grace enjoyed cooking and was an excellent cook; she also enjoyed traveling, handiwork and won many prizes at the Connaught and Nipawin fairs. Friends were a very important part of her life, and Grace was known to also enjoy visits from her dog friends too! Grace moved to Niacin in 1972 and continued gardening and traveling. Hawaii was her favorite spot to visit! She moved to Cedar Manor in April 2002. Her health continued to decline and she had to move into Pineview Lodge July 1, 2003. Grace fell and fractured her hip this past Good Friday. After surgery, her health deteriorated quickly and she passed away April 30, 2006. Grace was predeceased by: her parents, William and Annie; and a special friend for many years, Ludie Hendrickson. Grace leaves to cherish her memory: her brother, Lloyd (Evelyn) of Nipawin; Myrtle Northcott and families of Melfort; and many cousins and friends. Grace was a devoted sister and like a mother to Lloyd from the time he was seven years old. She was a good friend to many and will be greatly missed. TOMAN - Fern Viola Weber was born March 5, 1920 at Tofield Alberta, the second daughter of Abram and Mary (Burkholder) Weber. At the age of 10 she accepted Christ as her saviour and was baptized at Salem Mennonite Church. On December 1, 1940 she was united in marriage to Clarence Toman of Guernsey, Saskatchewan. They spent the first two years of their married life at Ryley, Alberta. In the fall of 1942 they moved to Guernsey to begin farming on the homestead of Clarence's father. Fern was an active partner in the farming operation of 35 years. In the fall of 1977 they left the farm and moved into the town of Guernsey. In January 2001 they moved to Manitou Lodge in Watrous. She spent the latter years of her life in Central Parkland Lodge and in long term care in hospital in the town of Lanigan. Fern passed away peacefully with family at her side February 4, 2013. She was 92 years old. Fern was a woman of great faith, godly wisdom and an active member of the Sharon Mennonite Church. She was an avid gardener, loved flowers, was a great cook and enjoyed reading and writing poetry. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend to many. Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life are her five children: Faye (George) Bergmann, Spruce Grove, Alberta, Elaine (Boyd) Snider, Waterloo, Ontario, Earl (Cynthia) Toman, Ottawa, Ontario, Fred (Elsie) Toman, Guernsey, Saskatchewan, Barry (Margery) Toman, Spiritwood, Saskatchewan, thirteen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren and two brothers, Norman of Tofield and Lloyd of Lanigan. She was predeceased by her parents Abram and Mary Weber, husband Clarence and four sisters, Dorothy Martin, Edna Torkleson, Wilma Friesen and Florence Martin.The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of the Central Parkland Lodge and the Lanigan Hospital for the excellent care given, love and kindness shown to Fern during her stay there. Fern was laid to rest earlier today during a family service in the Sharon Cemetery. We as a family wish to express our heartfelt thanks for all the kindness and prayers. Please join us for a fellowship lunch immediately following the service. ULMER - Fred. On November 9, 2005, Fred Ulmer, aged 93 years, died peacefully at Watrous Hospital. Fred was born on September 12, 1912, to Wilhelm and Katharina Ulmer of Guernsey, SK. Fred later moved to the Imperial area and purchased a farm from the Blankenship family. Fred enjoyed many, many years working as a farmer. When Fred was not at the farm he enjoyed spending time with his wife, Hazel, and his best friend, Buffy. Over the years Fred was actively involved in his community. He served on Town Council, was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Board Member and Treasurer for the Imperial United Church. Fred's other interests included carpentry, whittling, clock making, doing puzzles, reading, gardening and going for drives in the country on sunny days. Left to cherish his memory are Hazel (nee Howie), his wife of 54 years; step-daughter Pat (John) Bertrand; son Howie (Bonnie); daughter Joan (Terry) O'Connor; son Dean (Margaret); son Jay; son Rod (Barb); five grandchildren Chris (Shelly), Jason (Donna), Vanessa, Andrea and Dustin; brothers and sister Art (Edna), Harry (Louise) and Agnes (Bob) McIntosh; sisters-in-law Agnes and Annie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his parents; sisters Lilly, Jean (George) and Marie; and brothers Leo, Oscar (Violet), Bob (Betty) and Ed (Erma). At Fred's request there will be no funeral service. WALDEN - Cecil Craig born in Guernsey, SK. on April 19, 1921, Craig passed away in Vancouver on February 16, 2010. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Olive, in 2004. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Patricia F. Ridgers of Victoria and by his four Sons: Patrick Lorne (Christine) of Vancouver; Philip Craig (Cathryn) of Menlo Park, CA; Robert David (Inge) of Calgary and Trevor Don of Burnaby. He also leaves six grandchildren; James Lawrence (Alita), Ashlyn Rosemarie, Robert Thomas (Rachel), Erek Josef, David Josef (Nicole) and Thomas Craig. He also leaves behind one great grand child Lucas Forrest. Craig was born in Guernsey, SK. and grew up at various locations around and in Saskatoon. He married Olive Eileen Hamilton in Winnipeg in 1941 where their first son, Patrick, was born in 1944. Most of the next ten years were spent in Saskatoon with excursions to Vancouver, and to Minneapolis, MN, where Craig received his Ph.D. The family, which by this time numbered three sons (Philip and Bob), moved to Vancouver in 1954 where Trevor was born in 1957, and where they have lived ever since. Craig was the Biology division head at the B.C. Research Council where he became a pioneering environmental researcher of considerable stature. However, Craig's major focus was always his beloved wife, Olive, and their family. His most treasured moments were when Olive and he were with their sons, showing them new things, taking them new places and just enjoying one another's company. When the sons grew up and Craig had retired, Olive and he enjoyed their grandchildren in the same way. Olive and Craig's favorite holiday spot was Waikiki, which they visited more than 30 times. Craig was devastated when he lost Olive to cancer after 63 years of marriage. A memorial service will be held for Craig at Dunbar Heights United Church in Vancouver on February 24, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow. WALDNER - Ottilie 'Tillie' (nee Detbrenner) passed away on March 21, 2014 at the Pineveiw Lodge. She was born on November 13, 1917, at Watrous, Saskatchewan, to parents Leopold and Louisa Detbrenner. Tillie was baptized on December 26, 1917 at Esk, Saskatchewan. She was raised and attended school in the Watrous Guernsey area. When Tillie was 13 years old, the Detbrenner family moved to the Nipawin area where she eventually met and married Abe Waldner. They were married on November 25, 1938. Tillie was a hard worker and a devoted mother to her eight children. She worked hard maintaining the home and made sure that the family was well provided for while Abe was enlisted and/or working outside the home. Tillie was also a devoted wife and she and Abe celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2007, which is an accomplishment very few of us will see. She was predeceased by her husband; Abe: her parents; Leopold and Louisa and her brothers and sisters: Mary, William, Gustofe, Henry, Charles, Fred, Robert, Albert, Lena, Leopold, Bertha and Rosa; Son in Law Henry Neufeld, Bill Langridge and two great grandsons, Jordon Waldner and Jefferey Neufeld. Tillie is survived by; four sons, Norman (Marg) Waldner of Munster, Sk., Dennis (Gerry) Waldner of Spruce Grove, AB., Bruce (Jenette) Waldner of Smeaton, SK., and Roger (Candi) Waldner of Codette, SK.; four daughters, Marge Langridge of Nipawin, SK., Violet Neufeld of Nipawin, SK., Isabel (Larry) Clements of Peachland, BC., Peggy (Don) Madore of Westbank B.C. 21 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; one sister Anna. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. We love you, Mom! A funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Randy Fiege officiating. Tillie was laid to rest in Mabel Hill Cemetery, Nipawin. WALTERS - Joseph Zechariah, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Walters, was born August 11, 1884, in South Dakota; died at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon, Sask., June 22, 1950; aged 65 years 10 months 11 days. On March 27, 1904, he was married to Olga Decker, of Ebenezer, Sask. Surviving are his wife, 3 children (Mrs. Mabel Ham, Samuel Norman and Edison Gillis), one sister (Mrs. Katie Scheffner, Swift Current, Sask.), and a brother (David Walters, of Veregin, Sask.). He was converted as a young man at Ebenezer, Sask., and upon moving to Guernsey in 1917, united with the North Star Mennonite Church, of Drake, Sask. Interment was made in the Sharon Mennonite Cemetery of Guernsey. Funeral services were in charge of Stanley Shantz, assisted by Edwin Bartel, of Drake, Sask., and C. G. Derstine, Kitchener, Ont. He was held in high esteem and will be missed by friends and relatives. WARSABA - Raymond. Ray was born on July 24, 1934 and passed away peacefully on November 11, 2005 surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his mother Eva Nyffenegger (Warsaba) and his stepfather Fred Nyffenegger; brother Eugene; brothers-in-law Allan Reed, Bill Reed, Ernie Meredith, Ross Lawrence. Ray is survived by his loving wife Margaret of 42 years; brother John (Anne) Nyffenegger of Saskatoon; sisters Jeanette (Jack) Goohsen of Gull Lake and Alice (Phil) Guenther of Saskatoon; sisters-in-law Clara Meredith, Myrtle Lawrence and Dianna Reed; brother-in-law Jim Reed as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Raymond was born in Hubbard, SK and moved to Guernsey at a young age. At 16 years old, he left home and went to work for Shemenhaur Millworks in Humboldt for a number of years. He was involved in the manufacturing of church pews, which most of us sat in, in the Province of Saskatchewan. Ray's desire to work with wood, took him to Regina where he worked for Schneiders Millworks for a number of years. Ray met Margaret Reed, and they were married on November 17, 1962 in the town of Macklin. WEBER - Gordon Delton Weber, aged 87, of Saskatoon, SK and formerly of the Guernsey District passed away at Royal University Hospital on Sunday, August 14, 2011. Gordon is survived by his loving wife Lillie, son Delton, daughter LouAnn (Cliff Wiens), son Blaine (Gail), daughter Beth (Jerome Fisher), daughter Karen (David White), 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, a sister Irene (Eby) and brother Lyle. A visitation for family and friends will be held in Fotheringham's Funeral Chapel in Watrous on Thursday, August 18th at 7:00 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held in Lanigan at the Christian Fellowship Church at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2011. WEBER - Lillie Myrene (nee Kauffman) 87, of Saskatoon, Sask. passed away December 24th at Porteous Lodge, Saskatoon. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12 at the Christian Fellowship Church in Lanigan, Sask. Lillie was born on December 28th, 1924 to Norman Leroy Kauffman and Anna Grace (Snyder) Kauffman near Creston, Montana. She was the 10th of 15 children. She attended elementary school at Cayuse Prairie school. She attended Flathead High school for gr. 9, 10, and 11. She graduated from Eastern Mennonite School in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 1947. After high school she worked as domestic help at the summer home of the Klacks on Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park. It was the Klacks who helped her financially and she was able to get her Registered Nurses diploma from Bethel College in Newton, Kansas graduating in August 1951. She returned to Kalispell where she worked at Kalispell General Hospital and in a Dr. Office till the time that she married the late Gordon Delton Weber on October 16th, 1954. She moved to Guernsey, Sask. where Gordon was raised and together they owned and operated the dairy farm till their retirement in 1989. At which time they moved to Guernsey and, residing there until October 2010 when they moved to Saskatoon. Lillie became a member of the Mountain View Mennonite Church as a teenager and transferred that membership to Sharon Mennonite Church when she married Gordon. She was active as a WMSC member and participated in many organized singing groups. She had a beautiful alto voice. She enjoyed her garden and spent many hours there. We all benefited from her labours and were blessed by her abilities as a great cook. She was a wonderful story teller and had a great sense of humour. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years in August of 2011; her parents Roy and Anna; brothers, Reuben, Aldine, Norman, James, Sanford: sisters, Mabel, Ruth, Mary, and Berniece; father and mother-in-law, Noah and Louise (Biehn) Weber; brothers-in-law Howard, Floyd, Leonard, and Willis, sister-in-law Myrtle. WEBER - Noah Gabel, son of Manasseh and Lydia (Gabel) Weber, was born at Strasbourg, Ont., February 28, 1887; died at Rosthern, Sask., October 6, 1981; aged 94 years. In 1913, he was married to Louise Biehn, who died on May 1, 1968. Surviving are 6 children (Howard, Myrtle - Mrs. Claude Schlabach, Gordon, Irene - Mrs. Ivan Eby, Floyd, and Lyle), 22 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters (Verlina and Magalena). He was a member of the Sharon Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on October 10, in charge of Bill Bast and James Mullet; interment in the church cemetery near Guernsey, Sask. |
