ADAM - Evelyn "Jane" (nee Zaharia) Adam, beloved wife of Mervin Adam of the Hamton district passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, October 7th at the age of 60 years. Evelyn "Jane" Adam was born on December 7, 1948 at Yorkton to Sam and Katie (Wowk) Zaharia. She received her education at Stawchen School. Following her education Jane commenced working in Yorkton, first as a waitress in a restaurant followed by employment at Co-op and Safeway. On November 13, 1971 Jane was united in marriage to Mervin Adam at Yorkton. The couple initially made their home in Yorkton, then briefly in the Gorlitz district before establishing their home and raising their family on the Zaharia farm in the Hamton district. Besides homemaking and helping with the farm operation, Jane provided Homecare services in her home to many disabled clients. This gift of caring spanned over 28 years. Jane loved her garden and flowers. She had the ability to produce enormous vegetables. She will also be remembered as a great hostess - no one left her home hungry. Jane was very active at St. Mary's - Boychuk Church where she served as secretary for approximately 20 years. She was predeceased by her father Sam; sister Alice Tkachuk; brother Don; sister-in-law Helen Zaharia; brother-in-law Keith Shorter and father-in-law William Adam. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Mervin; her son Merv (Julie) of Yorkton; daughter Lorelee of Yorkton; granddaughters Michaela & Madison Adam and their mother Cheryl of Yorkton; mother Katie Zaharia of Yorkton; sisters Dianna Shorter of Yorkton and Carol (Peter) Brown of Summerland, BC; brother Mike Zaharia (Thelma) of Clearwater, BC; brother-in-law George Tkachuk of Yorkton; mother-in-law Pauline Adam of Gorlitz; sisters-in-law Angie (Allan) Hemauer of Langenburg and Ivy (Barry) Bilokrely of Sheho; brother-in-law Blaine (Tracey) Adam of Gorlitz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Prayers were on Monday, October 12th, and the Funeral Service on Tuesday, October 13th at St. Mark's Orthodox Church, Yorkton with Rev. Father Rod Luciuk officiating. Responses were led by Rodney Flunder and Ted & Verlee Ungurain. The Cross Bearer was Nelson Boychuk and the banner bearers were Jason Bilokrely and Nick Zaharia. The interment took place at Yorkton City Cemetery with Peter Brown, Les Reimer, Barry Bilokrely, Blaine Adam, Kelly Shorter and Allan Tkachuk serving as the casket bearers. ANAKA - Eli. It is with great sadness the family of Eli Anaka announce his peaceful passing on January 27, 2010 at the age of 88 years at St. Joseph�s Home in Saskatoon. Eli was born on June 24, 1921 in the Gorlitz district of Saskatchewan, a son of Frosina (nee Stawoway) and Michael Anaka. He was raised on the family farm in the Gorlitz area. On October 15, 1944 Eli was united in marriage to Mary Procyshen. They farmed in the Gorlitz district and were blessed with three children: Richard, Darlene and Robert. In 1999 the couple retired from the farm and moved to Saskatoon to reside with their son Richard. Mary passed away August 25, 2003, following that time Eli remained with Richard until he began to suffer from failing health. In June of this year he became a resident of St. Joseph�s Care Home, where he had since resided. Eli was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Mary, brothers: Ted, William, Harry, John and Pete, and sister, Anne Chabun. He leaves to cherish his memory his family: son Richard of Saskatoon; daughter Darlene (Gary) May of Chase BC; son Robert of Kamloops BC; granddaughters: Shanda (Brian) Gebbie of Port Moody BC, and Sheena (Joe) Sutherland of Langely BC. Also a sister Mary (Fred) Gabora of Regina; and sisters-in-law Mary Anaka of Canora, Evelyn Anaka of Saskatoon, and Barbara Anaka of Campbell River BC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and his many other relatives and friends. Prayers were held on Sunday evening, January 31, 2010 and the funeral service was held on Monday, February 1, 2010, all from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Rev. Father Rodion Luciuk of St. Mark�s Orthodox Church officiated. Cantor for the prayer service was Bob Rohr and Rodney Flunder was the cantor for the funeral. Honorary bearers were Nellie Wasyliw, Barbara Anaka, Vicky Procyshen and Evelyn Anaka. The interment followed in the Garden of St. John at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Ed Anaka, Wayne Unyi, Henry Wasylyshen, Harvey Wasyliw, Bill Heshka and Danny Wasyliw serving as the casketbearers. ANAKA - Mary (nee Procyshen). It is with profound sadness the family of Mary Anaka announce her sudden passing on Monday, August 25, 2003 at the age of 81 years. Mary was born on April 22, 1922 in the Gorlitz district, a daughter of Alex and Stella (nee Romaniuk) Procyshen. She was raised on the family farm and attended Ukraina School. On October 15, 1944 Mary was united in marriage to Eli Anaka. The couple farmed in the Gorlitz district and were blessed with three children, Richard, Darlene and Robert. She was a warm and caring person who was extremely devoted to her family. Mom, you have endured all your challenges and we are very proud of the courage with which you faced them. May you now �Rest in Peace.� Mary was predeceased by her parents; three brothers Pete (Regina), George (Yorkton) and Will (Gorlitz). She leaves to cherish her memory her family, husband Eli; son Richard of Saskatoon, daughter Darlene (Gary) May of Chase, B.C., and son Robert of Kamloops, B.C.; grandddaughters Shanda and Sheena May of Vancouver, B.C.; one brother Matt (Vicky) Procyshen of Gorlitz; three sisters, Lena Wiwchar of Regina, Susie Shouchuk of Yorkton, and Nellie Wasyliw of Canora; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Prayer services were held on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Funeral services were held on Friday, August 29, 2003 at the Family Centre with Rev. Fr. BELLOWS - Mary (nee Kachman) July 10 , 1912 - March 10 , 2010 was born at Overstone, Manitoba, daughter of John and Mary Kachman. Leaving the farm after grade 8, she worked in Winnipeg for several years before marrying Peter Bellows of Hyas, Saskatchewan in 1937. Together they were blessed with four children, David, Sharon, Beverley and Barbara. Farming alongside Peter was a great joy for Mary, and they worked together as partners on their farm. Finally, illness brought a sad separation for them last September. Their marriage of 72 years was a happy union characterized by love and forgiveness. Mary�s family was very important to her and each member felt her love and acceptance. She loved her extended family, and her brothers and sisters in faith. All who sat at her table enjoyed her delicious food, and often were sent away with the fruits of her labours, a jar of her delicious jam or produce from her garden. Mary was a gracious homemaker, inviting any who came into the yard, for coffee or a meal. She cultivated beautiful flower beds and raised a large, productive garden. She taught her children an orderly way to live especially in regard to keeping a neat and tidy house and yard, and role modelled for them the giving of selfless love to others. Mary was a woman with a servant�s heart. She served selflessly, never complaining about hard work, unending farm chores or household tasks. She loved God and always served Him in her daily life and in the Church community. Mary leaves behind her beloved husband, Peter; her son, David (Sharon) and their children, Brad (Karen) and Curt (Cia); her daughter, Sharon (Len) and their children, Treena, Tim (Celia) and Matt (Jill); her daughter, Beverley (deceased) (Dan) and their children, Kim (deceased), Renee (Al), and Daniel (Nikita); and her daughter, Barbara (Chesley) and their children, Adam (Lindsay), James (Erin); and six great grandchildren, Runa, Aidan, Noah, Rowen, Quinn or Orion; and many other family members and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from Ebenezer Baptist Church. The interment service will take place in the Ebenezer Town Cemetery and will preceed the the funeral. BENKE - Lillian Caroline (nee Dorn) of Yorkton, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully at 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the age of 101 years. Lillian was born on February 26, 1909, the daughter of Reinhold and Ida (nee Rosenmeyer) Dorn. Lillian loved growing up on the family farm north of Yorkton, near Meeham, Saskatchewan and there she attended the Reaman School in what is now the Reaman School District. As a young woman, Lillian met Sigmund Benke and on May 11, 1932 they were united in marriage. Sigmund and Lillian began their married life on the farm, but soon moved into Yorkton where, through hard work and love they were able to more adequately support their growing family. Following Sigmund�s passing in 1985, Lillian remained in the family home on Franklin Avenue until she reached the age of 96 years. At 96, Lillian started requiring extra care and chose to become a resident of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home where she happily resided until her passing. Lillian loved outdoor activities (including gardening) and was always ready for Saturday or Sunday outings to the lake or a drive in the country with the entire family in tow. She was extremely fond of children and always saw the beauty in their innocence. Although it was more because of the ability to spend time with young people, Lillian loved organized sports and enjoyed all levels of sport well into the later years of her life. Always the greatest supporter of her grandchildren�s sports, she especially loved hockey and soccer. She would proudly wear her Edmonton Oilers jersey with her number �82" and �LILLY�on the back since she received it as a gift for her 82nd birthday. Ever the sports fan, last month Lillian, wearing her Oilers jersey she was encouraging her fellow residents at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home to cheer on the Canadian Olympic Hockey team in their Gold Medal game. She loved to play cards, and almost any board game including Lego were always enjoyed by Lillian, again especially because it allowed her the opportunity to spent time with children. Lillian was also very fond of animals, welcoming pets into the family. She instilled in her children the importance of appreciating the lives of every living creature. Lillian loved to read and particularly enjoyed short stories as well as the daily paper and many happy hours were spent listening to violin music. In addition to her husband, Sigmund, Lillian was predeceased by her sister, Vivian (Donnie) Welters and three brothers, Elzer Dorn, John Dorn and Alvin Dorn. Lillian�s oldest and only other sibling, Angeline Davies currently resides in a long term care facility in St. Rose, Manitoba. Besides her sister, Angeline, Lillian also leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her daughter, Violet Matwichyna and three sons, Blaire Anfield, Neal Benke and Dennis Benke; her grandchildren, Joan Glennie, Michael Matwichyna, Lisa Lem, Janell Bourgeault, Mitchel Benke, Erik Benke and Karl Benke; seven great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends. A Service of Comfort for family and friends of the late Lillian Benke of Yorkton will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Christie�s Funeral Home. The Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Christie�s Funeral Home. The interment will follow in the Yorkton City Cemetery. BILLY - George, of Yorkton, formerly of Canora, beloved husband of Jean passed away at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on Sunday, April 15, 2001 at the age of 75 years, 11 months, 17 days of age. George was born on April 29, 1925 to Metro and Helen Billy. He received his education at Donwell and West Wexford Schools. In the spring of 1944 George commenced employment with Canada Car and Foundry in Fort William, ON (Thunder Bay) working in the aviation department until the war ended. In 1949 he returned to Burgis and began employment with Federal Grain, initially working as a helper at various locations and subsequently taking over as the agent in Burgis. On June 15, 1952 George was united in marriage to Jean Terlesky in Canora. The couple spent their first year of married life in Burgis. In 1953 George accepted a position with the Co-op Creamery in Canora. With the pending closure of the creamery in Canora, George was transferred to Yorkton in 1976 moving his family with him. In 1990 George retired after 37 years of dedicated service. A loving and caring husband and father, George will be missed by his family and friends. Predeceased by his parents and older brother Bob, he is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife Jean; daughters, Laurel (Brian) Bassingthwaite of Red Lake, ON and Susan (Royce Flear) of Prince Albert; two grandchildren Erin and Sean Bassingthwaite; three brothers, Norman of Delta, BC, Alex (Cynthia) of Canora and Jim (Vera) of Tisdale; one sister Olga (Ray) Markham of Olds, AB and numerous nieces and nephews. Also missing him terribly is his loyal companion and friend, his cat Heidi who watched and waited daily for his return from the hospital. Prayers were conducted on Thursday, April 19th at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 20th at the Family Centre with Rev. Faye Greer of Westview United Church officiating. The organist, Sharon Litvanyi, led in the singing of the hymns, In The Garden and Amazing Grace. Jim Billy conveyed remembrances of reflections of his brother's life. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Luke, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with grandson Sean Bassingthwaite serving as the urn bearer. BILYK - Fred. On Wednesday, April 5, 2006, Fred Bilyk passed away peacefully in his sleep. Fred was born September 3, 1917 at Gorlitz, Saskatchewan, son of Metro and Polly Bilyk and brother to several siblings. Fred had many hobbies and interests. He especially enjoyed nature and the outdoors, gardening and cooking. Fred proudly and honorably served his country during World War II and was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Army and Navy Vets and the Eagles. Fred was a very kind and thoughtful person who enjoyed helping others. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and brother. Predeceased by his parents, several siblings and daughter, Brenda Bilyk, Fred was the loving father of three daughters, Dorothy Jean, Brenda J. and Arlette Jane and grandfather of seven children: Colin, Ryan, Sarah, Kelly, Adrian, London and Patrick and brothers: John Bilyk and Nick Bilyk. The Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel. Padre Doug Shepherd will officiate. BJORGAN - Gail "Pixie" was born on April 30, 1961 at Melville, SK; a daughter of Vernon and Hazel (Nee Parlee) Bjorgan. Gail passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2003 at her home in Ebenezer. She was 42 years of age. She leaves to cherish her memory and to celebrate her life, her husband Jeff Spilchen; her mother Hazel; two brothers: Rob (Shelley), Geoff ( Tracy); a sister, Wanda (Dave) Hamilton; grandmother Agnes Parlee, and Gail's nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Vernon; grandparents George Parlee, Olaf and Christina Bjorgan. BOHN - Edna (nee Patzer) March 15, 1923 - April 26, 2009 was born in the Ebenezer district; daughter of Emma (nee Zichau) and Edward Patzer. With two sisters and six brothers, she was considered to be quite a tomboy, playing with gophers, sliding off the barn roof and riding the cows home from pasture at milking time. She loved softball and was quite a pro at catching bare handed. On October 4, 1942 she was united in marriage to Reinhold Bohn. The couple farmed in the Ebenezer district. In 1947, they continued to farm, but moved into the village of Ebenezer. Their marriage was blessed with three children; Vance, Carolyn and Dale. Edna was an active member of the community, being involved with the Ebenezer Golden Agers, Ebenezer Curling Club, 4H and was a custodian at the Ebenezer School. As a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, she was very active with the Ladies Aid, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and participated wherever there was a need. She also served as the church custodian as well as cook for Good Spirit Bible Camp for many years. She had a strong faith in God and prayed daily for her children and grandchildren. Edna enjoyed all aspects of gardening and there was always plenty to share with others. She loved to get up early and spend time in her yard tending to all her flowers. Edna maintained her own home until her sudden passing on April 26, 2009. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, her sisters; Olga Fandrey and Alice Mayer; her brothers; Lawerence, Arnold, Eric and Wilfred Patzer; her brother-in-law, Ed Fandrey; sisters-in-law, Gladys Patzer and Irene Patzer. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, sons, Vance (Ardice) Bohn and Dale (Judy) Bohn, both of Ebenezer; daughter, Carolyn (Ivahn) Dockter of Rochester, Minnesota; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Cheryl (Allan) Andringa and their children, Morgan and Tanner of Edmonton, Alberta, Jennifer (Roger) Angove of Auckland, New Zealand, Jon (Cindy) Dockter and their children, Calie and Ashley of Rochester, Minnesota, Jill (Nick) Schrandt and their children, Ethan and Isabella of Rochester, Minnesota, Joelle Bohn of Yorkton, and Michelle Bohn of Ebenezer; brothers, Allan (Lyla) Patzer and Harold (Elaine) Patzer both of Yorkton; sisters-in-law, Olive Patzer of Saskatoon, Frances Patzer of Ebenezer and Connie Bohn of Yorkton; numerous nieces, nephews and her many other relatives and friends. BRAZEAU - Lillian Stella (nee Paul), of Yorkton, passed away peacefully with her sister Rose at her side after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 76, on January 15, 2009 in the Foothills Hospital, Calgary, Alberta. Daughter of Clarice Azure and Joseph Z. Paul. Born July 13, 1932 at Boggy Creek, Manitoba. Lillian attended school in Woseley and Crescent Lake, Sask. One of her accomplishments was she attended Adult Education. She was united in marriage to Eugene Brazeau on November 1953 and were blessed with 7 children and opened their hearts and raised stepchildren as their own as well. They eventually made there home for many years in Ebenezer and later moved to Yorkton in 1970. She held various jobs but enjoyed her many years of employment with Sunrise Canvas Ltd. where she was a seamstress. She was fondly nicknamed "My Little Friend". In the spring of 1996 she gave her heart to the Lord Jesus Christ. And loved reading her bible and attended the Free Pentecostal Church. With determination she memorized scripture which we were so proud of. Mom always had a cup of tea or coffee and something to eat for her visitors. The favorite was her bread. Her much loved past times were spending time with her family, cooking, making quilts, gardening, attending church, watching her grandchildren participating in their sports. Her thoughtfulness was always shown to her grandchildren by remembering their birthdays and special events with that card that was given faithfully every year. The importance of family was always evident with her. We would gather together for family functions, the size of the house was never a concern because we all managed to fit somehow. Even though the house was small her love was tremendous. With the sale of the house this year and Mom moving to Cochrane, Alberta, we still were able to fit everybody into it, even with everyone grown up. This remarkable woman raised her children and never asked for anything in return. Her proudest moments in her life were her children. You could always count on her and know that you could confide in her. She was a good listener. Those who knew her will lovingly remember her. The Life Celebration of Lillian was held on Wednesday, morning January 21, 2009 from the Chapel ofBailey's Funerasl Home Yorkton, Sask. with Pastor Russell Richardson and Pastor Rick Flamont of the Free Pentecostal Church officiating. Many songs of Ministry and Faith were given by Sister E. Richardson, Daniel Pritchard and Nancy Shewkenek. Lillian's sister Rose Bishop gave reflections of Lillian's life both in word and song. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with: Joe Vitkauskas, Adrian Brazeau, Mitch Brazeau, Julien Brazeau, Jayson Fraser and Jeff Langan serving as Casket Bearers. Mom we love you and will miss you. BRIDGMAN - Harold Ian was born on June 15, 1926 in Nelson Township in Halton County, near Burlington, Ontario, the second child of Gordon & Ina (nee Buck) Bridgman. He was known as Harley to his friends and family. In the early 1940's their home burnt down and the family moved to a farm near Galt, Ontario. Harold worked on the family farm and also helped neighbours. He worked on the railroad for a short time and as a mechanic in a garage. In the late 1940's and early 50's he would go to Manitoba and Saskatchewan and help many farmers with harvest. In 1955, he and a friend came to Brandon, Manitoba and worked in a Ford dealership. He returned to Ontario until 1964, then moving to Yorkton and later settling in Ebenezer. In Yorkton he worked for Grant Brown Imperial Oil, the Western Development Museum and lastly Carnduff Motors, where he retired in 1986. Russell Carnduff, owner of the garage, was a dear and loyal friend as well as his employer. Harold was a very kind, generous, hard working man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. His favourite pastimes were fishing, curling and snowmobiling with his friends. Harold loved to garden (as well as eating the produce). He had a special bond with his two animal friends 'Millie' and 'Willis'. Antique vehicles were always an interest to Harold, he spent many contented hours helping to restore old cars and trucks. He was involved with the Yorkton Antique Car Club with his loyal lifetime friend, Bill French. The last two years of Harold's life were spent in the Nursing Home, where he made friends with all the staff with his sense of humour and his gentle manor. He passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on August 20, 2009. Harold was predeceased by his parents and by brothers Ronald and Gerald. He is survived by two brothers: Howard and Beverley; and two sisters: Thelma (Arnold) Hill, and Donelda Watson, all of whom live in southern Ontario; and his 'adopted' family here in Yorkton, Ivan and Debbie Batke. The funeral service was held on Monday, August 24, 2009 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Faye L. Greer of Westview United Church officiating. Organist, Amanda Buhler led the congregation in the singing of the hymns. Honorary bearers were Russ Carnduff and Ken Smithson. The interment followed in the Garden of Devotion with Bill French, Dan Ewasuik. Marv Tkachuk and Curt Plosz serving as the casketbearers. CHUPA - Donald, father of Richard and Jasen, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, July 26, 2001 at the age of 64. He was born on August 17, 1936 in the Ebenezer district of Saskatchewan. He was the first born of Dan and Mary (Byblow) Chupa. He attended Orkney Elementary School and later completed High School by correspondence. After completion of high school he moved to Winnipeg where he was employed as an auto mechanic through apprenticeship. He later earned his Journeyman's Technician Certificate. He leaves to mourn his passing his two sons: Jasen of Moose Jaw and Richard of Winnipeg; his brothers: Peter Chupa of Yorkton, Bill (Berna) Chupa of Orcadia, Ron Chupa of Orcadia, Marvin (Diane) Chupa of Regina; his sisters: Rose Livingstone of Comox, BC, Iris (Terry) Feary of Calgary, Lilian (Jerry) Krawetz of Winnipeg, MB, Janet (Clifford) Dawe of Winnipeg, MB, Stephanie (Matt) Ustupski of Regina, Gladys (Russell) Shewchuk of MacNutt, SK, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East. Don will be greatly missed by all of his family and his memory will be in our hearts forever. COWAN - Sadie (nee Carson). The passing of Sadie Cowan occurred at Sutherland Care Home in Kelowna, BC on November 24, 2005. Sadie was born May 31, 1913 at the homestead ranch near Ebenezer, Sask. She married Lyle Cowan on April 27, 1932 in Winnipeg, MB., shortly thereafter, moving to settle in Saskatoon, where they raised their family. While residing in Saskatoon, Sadie was an active curler and a longtime member of the Saskatoon Bridge Club, achieving Life Masters title. Lyle and Sadie retired to Kelowna in 1971. Sadie is survived by her three children, Joyce (Gerald) Mitchelmore, Denise (Bob) Merkle, and Dennis Cowan all of Saskatoon; grandchildren, Debra Gibbs, Judy Schmutz, Cameron (Lori) Merkle, Gordon (Victoria) Merkle, Sheri (Glenn) Klassen, Sandi Headley, Lisa Schmidt, and Randy Cowan; 15 greatgrandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Sadie was predeceased by her husband Lyle Cowan; parents, Sarah and James Carson; sisters Jean, Nellie, Elsie, Vera, Mary and Evelyn; brothers, John, Edwin, Bill, and Jim; and granddaughter Tara Wedge. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. A private family graveside service will be held in Saskatoon at a later date. DECKERT - Wilfred passed away peacefully on January 11, 2004 after prolonged multiple illnesses. He was born in Ebenezer, Sask. on September 16, 1919. He was the son of Sam (August) and Mary Walters Deckert. Wilfred served in the United States Fifth Air Force from 1942-1945, stationed in New Guinea. He married Prudence Rapkins of Brisbane, Australia on May 22, 1944. After the war, they settled in Wayne, Michigan. In 1949 Wilfred survived a near-fatal train accident. He retired from his government service job at the Veteran's Hospital in 1973. When Prudence retired from the Michigan Bell Telephone Company, they moved to their cabin in Mio, Michigan. Wilfred built an addition to the cabin and a 2 car garage. They were very active in the community and made many friends along the Au Sable River. Wilfred was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4126 in Mio. In 2000, they moved to Grass Lake, Michigan to live with their daughter. Wilfred was preceded in death by daughters-in-law Marilyn Deckert and Joann Deckert. He is survived by his wife Prudence Deckert, and daughter Helen Deckert, both of Grass Lake; his son, John Deckert of Livonia; granddaughter, Donna MacGonagel of Wyoming; nephew, Glenn Deckert of Ann Arbor; niece, Gloria Deckert of Wisconsin; his sisters, Violet Janzen of Yorkton, Saskatchewan and Beatrice Hoffman of Surrey, British Columbia; and a large extended family in Canada. He will be missed by many dear friends in Wayne, Michigan and Mio, Michigan. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at Sherwood Funeral Home with visitation from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service. DENYS - Pauline Denys passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2002 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre in the presence of her loving husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was 75 years and 28 days of age. Pauline was born on July 21, 1927 in the Burgis district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of Nick and Anne Heshka. She received her education at the East Wexford School. On October 30, 1949 she was united in marriage to Fred Denys at Canora. This union was blessed with eight children. Fred and Pauline farmed in the Canora district and also in the Ebenezer district until 1965. They moved to Yorkton where Pauline worked at various jobs until 1972, when she retired to stay home and raise her youngest child. Pauline was active in the church and her ladies group until her health began to fail. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, and in her later years crocheting and playing Yahtzee were favourite pastimes. Predeceased by her parents, great granddaughter Shianne, son-in-law Jalmer Siedler, brothers Mike, Bill and John Heshka, and by sisters Lena Filipchuk and Anne Luchanko, she leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life, her husband Fred; her daughters, Rosann Siedler of Yorkton and Charlotte (Russ) Nagy of Yorkton, sons Gordon (Pat) Dennis of Hudson Bay, Michael, Raymond (Rita), Donald, Julian (Pauline), all of Yorkton, and Jason Dennis of Preeceville; 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; a brother George Heshka (Helen) of Canora, sisters Mary Lozinski of Canora, and Jean (Tony) Yaremko of Burnaby BC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. Prayer services were held on Thursday evening, August 22, 2002 from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, August 23, 2002 from Holy Transfiguration Church with Rev. Father Richard Ehrmantraut officiating. Cantor, Mike Sitko, assisted by members of the parish choir led in the singing of the responses. The crossbearer was Tammy Siedler, the bannerbearers were Tennyson Dennis and Corry Siedler. Members of the Ukrainian Womens Association, Olena Pchilka branch formed an honour guard. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Luke at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Tyson Dennis, Adam Dennis, Travis Dennis, Chad Dennis, Neil Nagy and Jimmy-Lee Dennis serving as the casketbearers. DIAK - Mary (nee Popowich), of Yorkton, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 95 years of age. Mary was born on November 4, 1911 on her parents farm in the Good Spirit Lake District of Saskatchewan; a daughter of Sam and Ann Popowich. She received her education at Black Poplar Country School. Mary then worked on the family farm and also worked out at farm homes as a housemaid. In 1932 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Peter Diak. Peter and Mary were blessed with two sons: Mervin and Elmer and a daughter Sylvia. The couple farmed in the district southwest of Burgis for 41 years; where Mary worked hard milking cows, churning butter, raising chickens, stooking, pitching hay, pitching sheaves into the threshing machine and more; attending to her two gardens with � to � miles away in walking distances. As well as her household chores Mary baked bread and pastries, made quilts and embroidery, sewing, knitting, crocheting and prepared daily meals. She prepared and served three meals and two lunches a day to a team of 14 workers or more during threshing time. After Peter's health started to deteriorate they decided to make a decision and retired from farming and relocate to Yorkton in 1973 where they purchased a home. Following the death of her husband, Mary continued to reside at her home with her daughter and son-in-law until she passed away. Mary was predeceased by her parents: Sam and Anne Popowich; a sister Maggie Spilchen; brothers: Bill, John, Mike, Fred, Dan and Nick; also many sisters-in-law and brothers-in- law; nieces and nephews. She leaves to cherish her memory and to celebrate her life her sons: Mervin (Eileen) of Winnipeg and Elmer (Evelyn) of Sault Ste. Marie; her daughter Sylvia (Raymond) Robinson of Yorkton; five grandchildren: Doris Diak, Tim Diak, Patti-Anne (Michel) Fortier, Bradley (Nicola) Diak, Jason (Karen) Diak; six great grandchildren: Rebecca, Stephanie, Ethan, Callum, Ashton and Avery; two sisters: Nellie Popowich and Pauline Bonsal; one brother George Popowich; sisters-in-law Lena (late John) Popowich, Rose (late Mike) Popowich, Pauline (late Fred) Popowich, George (Lena) Popowich, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. From the past to the present Mary enjoyed scrap-booking (recipes), newspaper reading, soap operas on TV, playing cards and shuffleboard, gardening, shopping, singing, going out for coffee, watching the ducks and geese on the water at Jaycee Beach and York Lake. Her family will remember her as a quiet, loving, caring and giving mother. A very "generous" person to many people in her lifetime she was one who would put her own matters aside and listen to others and giving advice if asked for. Although she had her own handicaps Mary still maintained her humorous ways and as a devout Catholic and Christian her everyday prayers were directed not only for family and needy, but also for the strength of the people in the church, medical personnel, police and fire services, leaders of our country and province, producers of our food and many others in our society. Prayers were held on Friday, November 17th at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday, November 18th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Fr. Frank Szadiak, as the Celebrant. Ed. Pindus, Colette Karapita and Parish Choir members led in the singing of the responses. The epistle reader was Bradley Diak and the crossbearer was George Popowich. DREGER - Susan Dreger, beloved wife of the late Andrew Dreger of Yorkton and formerly of Ebenezer, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Susan (nee Stobbe) Dreger was born April 12, 1922 in Waldheim, Ukraine; daughter of John and Suzanna (nee Ewart) Stobbe. They immigrated to Canada and settled at Gretna, Manitoba. When she was 3 years old they moved to a farm at Schanzenfeld which is 3 miles south of Winkler, Manitoba, and it was here that she attended school. While growing up she was a very active member of the local 4H club, participating in sewing, and she had her very own crop plot. This interest in 4H carried through to her grandchildren and she was very interested in their projects. On May 4, 1954 Susan was united in marriage to Andrew Dreger of Ebenezer, SK. They had a happy marriage and were blessed with 5 children; John, David, Marita, Melita and Jason. She was an active member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for almost 20 years, many of her students still called her Aunt Susan. She was also involved in the Women�s Ministries and for many years she helped cook at the Good Spirit Bible Camp. She had a strong faith in God and prayed daily for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed life on the farm and spent many happy hours gardening and had a special fondness for her flowers. Her other hobbies including reading, baking, and crocheting. Many family members and friends are recipients of her creativity in making afghans, pot holders and doilies. In 1982, Andy and Susan retired in Yorkton and began attending the Alliance Church. They made many new friends and Susan enjoyed spending time having coffee with her �coffee ladies�. She continued to maintain her own home for many years even after Andy had passed away, but eventually she decided to sell her home and moved into Victoria Court, and at this time she began attending First Baptist Church. She was very happy and secure in her new environment and enjoyed the companionship of those around her. She was predeceased by her husband Andrew in 1984, her parents John and Suzanna Stobbe, two sisters, two brothers, a granddaughter Angela and a daughter-in-law Sharon. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her son John Dreger of Regina and his daughter Krisa (Marc Turnbull) and their children Hope, Danyelle and Kristopher; son David (Chris) Dreger of Ebenezer and their children Jenilee (Josh Cossitt) and Eddy; daughter Marita Dreger of Edmonton and her children Nigel (Haley) Engel, AnneLiese, Brigitte, Christina, Kristian, and Michael Jr. (and their father Michael Smylie); daughter Melita (Richard Benko) of Willowbrook and their children Katherine (fianc� Justin Conrad), Mark and Brandi; son Jason (Bev) Dreger of Ebenezer and their children Stephanie and Jordan; as well as many other nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. Susan was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a very special friend to many. She will be fondly remembered by family friends, and by all whose lives she has touched. The interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery with Justin Conrad, Mark Benko, Jordan Dreger, Eddy Dreger, Kristopher Dreger, and Heath Dreger serving as casket bearers. DUTKA - Alex (September 11, 1914 - December 17, 2009) was the youngest son of Wasyl and Annie Dutka (Stratychuk), pioneers of Burgis SK. Alex attended Poplar Springs School where he enjoyed his studies and playing the guitar. After finishing grade eight, Alex remained on the farm and in 1936 was given some land with the understanding that he was to take care of his parents. In 1939 Alex married Teenie Skihar at St. Basil Ukrainian Orthodox Church, approximately four miles southwest of Gorlitz SK. They were blessed with one daughter, Sylvia. Alex and his wife took care of his parents, living in one house on the homestead, until they passed on. Alex liked mixed farming where he raised grain and livestock. Over the years he became allergic to various farm environments causing problems with his work and daily living activities. In 1961, Alex sold the livestock and scaled down his operations to exclusively grain farming. At that time he built a house in Yorkton SK, and continued to farm there until 1989, at which time he sold his land and equipment and ultimately retired at the age of 75. In 1980 Alex was presented with a Family Farm Heritage Award which read in part, �to honour the heritage of your family farm of which SW quarter 16-29-4-2W has been continuously operated by members of the family since 1899.� This award was presented in conjunction with Saskatchewan�s 75th Anniversary Year celebrations. During his years of active farming, Alex joined with neighbors J. M. Wiwchar and his son Glenn; and for many years they mutually assisted one another with all aspects of the farming enterprise. Alex was a self learned man who became skilled at carpentry and mechanical repair and maintenance. He enjoyed gardening and maintaining the farm setting. Alex became a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in 1936 and served on a number of committees for many years. He also served as a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Burgis and joined the Yorkton congregation upon moving there, where he helped with various functions. Alex wrote a biography of his parents� lives in the Ukraine and Canada based on firsthand experience, stories and accounts of their hardships. The Journey The Rewards: Biography of Wasyl and Annie Dutka of Canora, Saskatchewan for the period 1863 - 1963 was published in 2000 and resides in many libraries and museums across Canada and the United States. Alex had a remarkable memory and took pleasure in relating many stories from the past based on his experiences and observations. After his retirement, Alex enjoyed working with wood and many of his canes, tables and sculptures were given to family, friends and museums in Canora and Kamsack, SK. Alex loved being active and was always busy doing something until Teenie�s health necessitated them to move from their own home of 47 years to Aspen Bluffs Villa in August 2008. Alex is survived by his daughter Sylvia and son-in-law Les Lewchuk of Richmond BC; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Teenie; his parents; half brother John of Fisher Branch MB; brothers Harry of Yorkton SK, Mike of Canora SK, Nick of Calgary AB, Jack of St. Petersburg FL, Metro of Canora SK; and two sisters Mary Ananichuk and Annie Stetski of Oshawa ON. DUTKA - Nellie (nee Wiwchar) Dutka, formerly of Yorkton passed away on June 4, 2008 at Millrise Place Intercare in Calgary, AB at 93 years of age. Nellie was born May 31, 1915 in the Gorlitz district, a daughter of Alex and Maria (nee Olynyk) Wiwchar. She was raised on the family farm and attended Ukraina School. Nellie was united in marriage to Harry Dutka on October 26, 1933. The couple farmed in Gorlitz district until 1939 when they moved to Hyas, SK. Harry and Nellie retired in 1973 and moved to Yorkton. Nellie enjoyed gardening and crafts. She was a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Ladies Auxiliary and Choir in Hyas. Nellie was predeceased by her husband Harry in 1975; sons Elmer in 2005 and Albert in 2006; two infant siblings; brothers Mike, Harry, Fred, John and Tony Wiwchar and sisters Lena Denesyk and Pauline Zaharia. Nellie will be sadly missed by her surviving family: son Ron (Dianne); daughters-in-law Helen and Cherie; grandchildren Harriet, Dwayne (Jo-ann), Denise, Gerald (Donna-Mae), Ryan (Liza), David and six great grandchildren. The funeral service was held on Monday, June 9, 2008 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Faye L. Greer of Westview United Church officiating. The organist, Sharon Litvanyi led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "In The Garden", "How Great Thou Art" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee". A tribute to Auntie was given by Wally Wiwchar. The interment took place in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Dwayne Dutka Gerald Dutka, David Dutka, Ryan Dutka, John Denysek and Bob Kush serving as the casket bearers. Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home. DUTKA - Teenie (nee Skihar). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Teenie Dutka, Loving wife of Alex Dutka and mother of Sylvia Lewchuk at Aspen Bluffs Villa in Yorkton, Sask. April 14, 2009 at the age of 88 years. Teenie Dutka was born October 24, 1920, the daughter of Wasyl and Annie Skihar (Mihaychuk), pioneers of Gorlitz, Sk. Teenie attended Ukraina School until the age of 15, when she left to seek work in a variety of odd jobs including household chores, gardening and farm labour. For this she received $5-$10 per month plus room and board. In 1939 Teenie married Alex Dutka in St. Basil Ukrainian Orthodox Church, approximately four miles southwest of Gorlitz SK. They were blessed with one daughter, Sylvia. Teenie was readily accepted by her new family and lived with and looked after her in-laws until they passed on. In addition to growing a large vegetable and flower garden and tending to farming duties, she enjoyed working alongside her husband on their mixed farm. Upon leaving the farm and moving to Yorkton in 1961, she became accustomed to a new way of life in the city. Teenie maintained a special fondness for flowers as well as looking after her home and garden . She also worked in a local processing plant for six years. Teenie originally belonged to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Burgis. Upon moving to Yorkton, she joined the congregation there in 1962 and became a member of the ladies association who provided hospitality services in community and church sponsored activities. She also spent much of her time visiting the sick and infirm. Teenie enjoyed and actively participated in gardening, food preservation, baking and the creation of unique Easter eggs. She bowled and was on the Yorkton Ladies Bowling League for sixteen years. Teenie liked to make potholders which she gave away to the many relatives and friends who came to visit. She also enjoyed music and working on her word search puzzles and said that the many words stimulated her thoughts. Teenie loved a household full of people and warmly welcomed family and friends to her home. She was an expert cook and skilled and practiced baker. Everyone enjoyed Teenie�s delicious home cooked meals, especially her perogies and baked cornmeal. Her chocolate chip cookies became known as �Teenie�s cookies� because they were so delicious. Her house was adorned with many many pictures of family and friends. A very special young admirer said Teenie had a �picture house�. Teenie loved being active and was always busy doing something until her health necessitated them to move from their own home of 47 years to Aspen Bluffs Villa in August of 2008. Teenie was well liked by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her kind heart, thoughtfulness and compassion for others. Teenie is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Alex; her daughter, Sylvia and son-in-law, Les Lewchuk of Richmond, BC; her sisters, Annie Wasylenchuk and Mary Chornomud of Yorkton, Sk, Lee Mitchell of Port Alberni, BC, Elsie Mailer and Nell Cooper of Edmonton, AB; brother, Matt Skihar of Delta ,BC and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and friends. DUTZ - Alyce May (nee Zimmer), beloved wife of Louis Dutz, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord on May 11, 2010, at the age of 89 years. Alyce was born on November 2, 1920, the daughter of Louis and Lydia (nee Betker) Zimmer of Ebenezer, Saskatchewan. She grew up understanding that God loved her. At eleven years of age, she gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized. Alyce attended school at Ebenezer. She also studied and taught piano for many years. On October 20, 1945, Alyce was united in marriage to Louis Dutz. Theirs was a happy marriage, that stood the test of time as they would have celebrated their 65 anniversary this year. Alyce was a devoted wife and daughter. Her deep love for Louis was evident to all who visited their home. Following the death of her father, Alyce, with Louis� help, cared for her invalid mother for 17 years. Alyce and Louis made their home on the farm north of Springside. Alyce enjoyed farm life with Louis - especially driving the combine. In 1990 they moved to their new home in the town of Springside. Alyce was a loving, caring person, quick to laugh and full of fun, and was always willing to serve family and community. A loyal friend and loving auntie, Alyce was generous with her time and her hospitality. Alyce had many interests and talents, including baking and cooking, but she will be most remembered for her passionate love of music. As a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, she shared her musical talent as church pianist for many years. Alyce was always willing to respond to requests to transpose music, find a specific song or accompany choirs, church bands, senior�s groups or soloists. Alyce was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Lydia Zimmer; her brothers, Henry and Lawrence Zimmer; her sister, Gladys Patzer; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Alyce will be dearly missed by Louis, her loving husband of almost 65 years and by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. FANDREY - Olga (nee Patzer), resident of Yorkton, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2005 at the Yorkton Regional Hospital. She was 93 years of age. Olga Fandrey was born on July 7, 1911 in Volynia, Russia; a daughter of Emma (nee Zichau) and Edward Patzer. In 1913, at the age of two, Olga came with her parents to Canada. She grew up in the Ebenezer district, first in the village, and later on the farm. At the age of 16, she was baptized by Rev. A. Ratchowsky and became a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. On October 5, 1930 she was united in marriage to Edward Reinhold Fandrey at Ebenezer. The couple farmed in the Ebenezer district for 35 years until their retirement in 1965, at which time they moved into Yorkton. Edward predeceased Olga on November 27, 1982. Olga maintained her own home for a few years before establishing a new residence at the Victoria Court in September of 1987. Olga greatly enjoyed the Victoria Court, making many new friends throughout the 17 years she resided there. As her health declined, Olga became a resident of the Angel Care Personal Care Home in Yorkton in July of 2004. Throughout her life, Olga had been a strong supporter of the Ebenezer Baptist Church and later the Central and Heritage Baptist Churches in Yorkton. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; daughter-in-law Marilyn; and brothers Laurence, Arnold, Eric and Wilfred Patzer. She leaves to cherish her memory her four children: Lorne (Grace) Fandrey of Yorkton; Arlan (Marlene) Fandrey of Yorkton, Daphne Wilson of Calgary, and Ken (Karen) Fandrey of Yorkton; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; brothers: Allan (Lyla) Patzer of Ebenezer and Harold (Elaine) Patzer of Yorkton; sisters: Edna Bohn of Ebenezer and Alice Mayer of Calgary; sisters-in-law: Olive Patzer of Saskatoon and Frances Patzer of Ebenezer; numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held on Monday, March 28, 2005 from the Heritage Baptist Church in Yorkton. Pastor Bob Ratzliff officiated. On behalf of the family, son Arlan gave the tribute. The organist, Elaine Patzer led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, Trust & Obey, Because He Lives, and He Lives. A duet of Joyce Guse and Pat Patzer sang Over the Sunset Mountains. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Clarence Hoffman, Dale and Vance Bohn, Ches and Darryl Patzer and Grant Fandrey serving as the casketbearers. FIEDELLECK - Mabel (nee Zingbiel) of Yorkton, formally of Ebenezer, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home at the age of 100 years and 5 months. Mabel was born on November 23, 1908 at Ebenezer, Sask. to Ferdinand and Pauline (nee Katzberg) Zingbiel. She met William Fiedelleck and they were united in marriage on April 11, 1928. Bill and Mabel were blessed with four children, Alfred, Hazel, Wally and Janie. Mabel wrote the following for her obituary: �I enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting and I was a seamstress for my family and friends. I made a quilt for all my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I enjoyed when family and friends dropped in. The grandchildren always came for coffee and cookies every Saturday and Sunday. I made sure I had enough cookies for everyone. They were all so good to me!� Mabel lived in her own home until she was 96, and she was only able to do that with the help of her daughter, Hazel and her grandchildren that lived here. She then moved into the Canora Nursing Home for 2 years and then Yorkton and District Nursing Home until her passing. While in the nursing home, everyone called her �Granny�, she never complained and was easy to please. Mabel was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church and the Ebenezer Golden Agers for many years. Her and her husband Bill were janitors of the Ebenezer School for a great many years. Mabel was predeceased by her parents, her husband, William, three brothers, one sister and one son-in-law, Ernie. Mabel is survived by her loving children Alfred (Dorothy), Hazel Pfeifer, Wally (Janis) and Janie Farrell; her 11 grandchildren, Leonard, Mary-Jean, Trevor, Shawn (Kathy), Terry (Donna), Gail (Don), Darcy (Sandra), Wade (Judy), Kelly (Jana), Janeen (Stacey) and Troy (and daughter Jordana); 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. FIEGE - Myrtle Verna (nee Fenske) passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home on May 21, 2009 after a brief illness, at the age of 80 years. She was born on April 16, 1929 in Ebenezer, Sask, daughter of Henry and Martha Fenske (nee; Helm). Myrtle grew up on the family farm near Ebenezer and received her education in Ebenezer, Saskatchewan. As a child she enjoyed playing baseball at school and had the ability to set her three brothers straight, even if it meant climbing the woodpile to be heard and get her point across. Perhaps that�s where she developed her strong throwing arm. Myrtle met Arthur Fiege at an Ebenezer Baptist Church group function and were united in marriage on June 17, 1950 and settled on his farm near Yorkton. Although she never worked outside the home, she was kept busy raising her children, gardening and helping her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed cooking and baking, one of her specialities was her Christmas cake, and spent many hours sewing, crocheting and knitting for her family and others. Later in life when health issues forced her to become less active, she enjoyed watching baseball, hockey and curling on television, listening to music and spending time with her grandchildren. From her front window she could watch birds come and go at her feeders, especially her humming birds. Eventually she became a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home where she made new friends, enjoyed participating in activities and always volunteered to fold bibs and towels. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Martha Fenske; daughter-in-law, Cheryl (Zorn) Fiege and brothers, Charles, Earl and Herb Fenske. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her husband of 58 years, Arthur; daughter, Carol (Jim) Till, their daughter, Carleen of Yorkton; son, Donald (Pat) Fiege, their children, Chelsea and Leanne of Yorkton, son, Grant (Joanne) Fiege, their children Amanda, Chad, Hayden and Brandon of Pilot Butte, son, Bruce (Gwen) Fiege, their children Meghan (Tyson) and Morgan (Amber) of Yorkton; as well as numerous other relatives and longtime friends. GALLANT - Lornie. It is with sadness that the family of Lornie Gallant, announce his passing on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 66 years of age. Lornie Gallant was born on May 10, 1941 in the Gorlitz District, the son of Joe and Polly (Fostey) Gallant and attended Ukraina School in the district. Dedicated to the family homestead, Lornie worked hard on the farm and also worked at the RM of Good Lake for many years. He retired in 2007 and moved into the city of Yorkton where he remained until his passing. Lornie was known as a friendly and kind hearted person and would help anyone in need. He always liked to have company visiting and his favorite past time was watching TV. Lornie was also a member of St. Peter and Paul Ukranian Orthodox Church in Gorlitz. Lornie was predeceased by his father, Joe Gallant on June 18, 1976; his mother, Polly Gallant on September 2, 1977; his brother, Alex Gallant on April 10, 1988 and his sister, Victoria Yuzik on February 11, 2008. Lornie is survived by his sister, Mary Gallant of Yorkton; his brother-in-law, David Yuzik of Ebenezer; his nieces, Lorraine Yuzik (Tom Isted) of Ebenezer and Darlene Rubletz (Brian) of Yorkton and great niece, Chantel Rubletz of Yorkton. GILLIS - Mabel (nee Taskey) passed away peacefully after a brief illness, with her daughter at her side in Saskatoon, on May 18, 2002 in her 92nd year. Left to cherish her memory are her only daughter Maura Gillis-Cipywnyk (Dr. Dmytro Cipywnyk), Saskatoon; step-grandchildren Paul Cipywnyk (Yumi Kosaka), Vancouver, BC; Raissa Choi (Bill) and their children Raya and Benjamin, Los Angeles, CA; sister Rose Garbe (98), Kalispell, MT; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend Arlene Cupples. Waiting to welcome her are William Taskey and Julianna Taskey-Faundry; husband Chester J. Gillis; brothers Henry Taskey, Frederick (Helen) Taskey, and Hector (Mollie) Taskey; sisters Linda Welk (J.R.) and Ester Davis (Stan). Born on a homestead near Ebenezer, SK. on September 10th, 1909, she completed her elementary schooling in the Ebenezer and Gorlitz School Districts. She attended high school in Churchbridge, Sask., where sports were her first love, especially basketball and softball in which she excelled. She was President of the Student Body, Editor of the school Paper, and Prime Minister (Liberal) of the School Parliament. She graduated from Regina Teachers College, devoting herself to a lifetime career as a teacher. She made learning fun, and hundreds of students considered her their favourite teacher. She taught for 30 years, the first few during the 1930's in one-room schoolhouses across the province. In 1944 she married Chester J. Gillis in Calgary, AB and settled in Mankota, SK. She taught school there for 20 years until she retired in 1968. Her life was rooted in strong Christian values. A member of the United Church, she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, played the organ, served as Church Elder and Treasurer, and served as Secretary of the Mankota New Horizons Club. She will always be remembered as a special teacher, a loving mother, a generous and gracious lady, and a loyal friend. GULLASON - Rose, of Yorkton entered eternal life on Monday, November 25, 2002 at the Regina General Hospital. She was 68 years of age. Rose was born on January 2, 1934 at Yorkton, Sask, a daughter of Andrew and Mary (nee Kowal) Wasylyshen. She was raised in the Gorlitz district and received her primary education at Langanau School. She received her high school education and the Yorkton Collegiate and subsequently took a commercial business course. Rose began her career with the Yorkton School Unit until her illness resulted in her leave. Once her health was restored she joined the provincial government with Department of Social Services, retiring on June 1, 1987 after 27 years and 355 days of dedicated service. In 1971 Rose was united in marriage to George Gullason. Predeceased by her father in 1984, her mother in 2000 and husband in 1987; Rose is survived by three step sons, David (Celine) of Vancouver, BC, Don (Alice) of Gibbons, AB and Ken (Judith) of Winnipeg, MB; a brother Lorne (Jean) of Saskatoon; two sisters, Pat Lemke of Yorkton and Sylvia Stoski of St. Catharine ON; her nieces and nephews; numerous aunts and uncles and special aunt, Elsie (Bill) Raddysh of Theodore. Left with her memory are numerous friends, including Stella Gullason, Elaine Pepple, Lynne Roming, Shirley - Ann Wing and Virginia Kulaway. GUREL - John Daniel. On Tuesday, September 6, 2005, John Daniel Gurel, late of Regina, SK, passed away at the age of 60 years. John was born November 7, 1944 in Yorkton, SK and grew up on the family farm near Ebenezer, SK. John loved and cared for his family and he spent countless hours watching his children play sports. He loved farming, curling, fishing and lending a helpful hand to friends and neighbours. Some of his greatest joys were coffee with neighbors on the farm, time spent with the Dauphin Agricultural Heritage Committee, afternoon visits with everyone in the Gourmet Bean and his dog, Pugsley. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Ruth of 52 years; two sons, Adair of Saskatoon, Robert (Cheryl) and children, Jillian and Mitchell of Saskatoon; one daughter, Karen (Brian) Conway and children, Thomas and Emily of Saskatoon; brother, Mike Gushulak of Hamilton; sister, Florence (Norton) Kessler of Regina; brother-in-law, Nick Malyk of Grimsby, ON; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Maria Gushulak; one sister, Mary Malyk; four brothers, John, Norman, Allan and Richard; three sisters-in-law, Freda, Audrey and Lily. Bill was born south of Buchanan on the SW 34-29-6 W2nd near Drobot Post Office on March 2, 1916. In March 1917, he moved with his parents to Burgis, SK, six miles south of Canora. Bill completed his first seven grades at West Wexford School, 2 miles from Burgis. Then he attended Burke School and Yorkton Collegiate for Grades 8 to 12. After completing Normal School in Regina, he taught in several Rural Saskatchewan schools. During W.W. II, he served in the R.C.A.F. 1942-1945, working in radio and radar surveillance. Following W.W.II he earned his B.Ed. and B.A. degrees at the University of Saskatchewan. He was principal of Sheho High School before moving to Foam Lake in 1949. Bill was VicePrincipal of Foam Lake Composite high School 1949-1957 and Principal 1957-1977. He retired after 39 years of service to Education in Saskatchewan and a love of working with youth. Bill married Ruth Muriel Balaam on August 5, 1952. They lived an active life together, raising their family and supporting many community projects in Foam Lake for the remainder of his life. Bill earned an Honorary Life Membership in the Saskatchewan High School Principal's Group, and on March 27, 1998, the Foam Lake Composite High School Library was officially renamed the William G. Gushulak Resource Centre in his honor. Bill sang in the United Church choir for over 40 years, was a church Elder, Trustee, taught Sunday School and aided in organizing the first Foam Lake Public Library. He was active in Parkland Regional Library; Community College; Donor's Choice campaigns; Foam Lake Historical Society; Odd Fellow Lodge #68; Air Cadets; Cubs; Foam Lake Recreation Centre Building Committee; the Board of Directors at Foam Lake Sr. Citizens' Centre and was Fishing Lake Regional Park Secretary for 12 years. He was a devoted member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #16 and was awarded a Life Membership. The Funeral Service will be held at the Foam Lake United Church on July 9, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Foam Lake Cemetery. HELM - Mildred Marjory (nee Bruhn) was born on October 29, 1933 in Yorkton; a daughter of Caroline (nee Sprecher) and Frederich William Bruhn. Following the death of her mother in 1945 Millie lived with her sister Martha and Ray Smith. She attended Simpson and Burke Schools, graduating from the Yorkton Collegiate Institute in 1952. She worked one year as a salesclerk before being united in marriage to Marvin Lorne Helm on June 17, 1953 at St. Andrew�s United Church in Yorkton. The couple farmed north of Ebenezer. On April 11, 1991 Marvin passed away and in June of 1996 Millie moved into Yorkton. She later became a resident of the Bentley Retirement Community, where she had resided until the time of her passing, on October 30th, 2009. She was 76 years of age. During her many years in the Ebenezer area, Millie was very involved in her church and community: she was active in the women�s ministries of the Ebenezer Baptist Church; she taught Sunday School for 20 years (and 4 more in Yorkton); she served on the executive of the Curling Club, the Parkland College, TOPS, and senior citizen organizations; she was well known for putting on showers of all kinds, making scrapbooks and emceeing parties. She was also active in hospital visiting, phoning the shut-ins, and remembering everyone�s birthdays and anniversaries by phone calls and cards.. Her hobbies included collecting and reading poems and religious poetry and books. She cared for her many varieties of houseplants, and had a good collection of spoons and plates, she also enjoyed cooking and baking and entertaining her many friends. Predeceased by her mother in 1945, her father in 1974; two brothers in infancy; and brothers Emil (1960), Albert (1981), Archie (1991), Scotty (1991), Bill (1994), and Ed (2006). She is survived by her daughter Brenda (Rod Miller) of Saskatoon; son Brian (Denise) of Ebenezer; grandchildren: Melanie, Jennifer and Blaid; and a great grandson Jayden. Also one sister, Martha Smith of Yorkton; numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. HESHKA- George. Funeral service for George Heshka, 87, of the Rural Municipality of Sliding Hills, who died November 24, 2005 at Canora Hospital, was held November 28 at Leson�s Funeral Home with Rev. Patrick Powalinsky officiating. Burial was in the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church Cemetery, Donwell West, with Leson�s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on April 1, 1918, on the family farm in the Burgis district to Nick and Anne (Horochuk) Heshka, he attended East Wexford School. He purchased his own land, south of his parents farm. He married Helen Kitchen on June 3, 1944. Over the years, he cleared the bush and broke his own land with a two-cylinder John Deere tractor. He was the vice-president and an active member of the Holy transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Donwell west. He served as secretary of Annak School and was a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. Predeceased by his parents, Nick and Anne, a son, Gordon, in infancy, three brothers, John, William and Mike; three sisters, Lena Filipchuk, Polly Dennis and Anne Luchanko, he is survived by his wife, Helen; three sons, Gene (Iris) of Yorkton, Ernest (Pat) of Yorkton and Terry (Muriel) of Burgis; two sisters, Mary Lozinsky of Canora and Jean (Tony) Yaremko of Burnaby, B.C.; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. HESKA - Stella (nee Lys). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Stella, on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 with family by her side. Stella was born to Mary and Metro Lys on August 7, 1929, the eldest of eight children. She married her best friend Peter in July of 1949 and together they raised a family of four children. They farmed in the Gorlitz district until moving to Regina in 1956. Stella had a variety of occupations until she found her passion; a very successful career in the health and beauty industry. Stella continued to be successful in this profession until her passing, for over 42 years. She enjoyed many activities, which included vegetable and flower gardening and preparing endless feasts for family and friends. Stella cherished the times she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also valued the time she spent with her close friends, Marina and Shirley and her lifelong friend Stella. She was predeceased by her loving husband, of 50 years, Peter; her parents, Metro and Mary Lys; stepfather, Bill Melnychuk; mother-in-law, Anna; father-in-law, John; sisters, Angie (Mike) and Edith (Max); brother, Peter; brothersin-law and sisters-in-law, George, Wilfred, Bill (Lena), Nick (Mary), Joe (Mary), Mary (Bill), Lena (Steve), John, and Mike. HOFFMAN - Gracen Allen (June 28, 1945 - September 11, 2009) was born at Yorkton, SK, the son of Albert and Olga Hoffman. He was raised on the family farm in the Ebenezer area with his sister, Leona and brother, Ivan, and attended West Ebenezer school and Yorkton Regional High School. Gracen worked for SaskTel for 33 years. While working at SaskTel he met and married his wife Darline. The couple has two sons, Ryan and Chad. Gracen was a loyal SaskTel employee who took great pride in his work. Upon his retirement in 1997, he was an active SaskTel Pioneer, and was particularly proud of the work they did with the Computers for Schools program. Gracen spent much of his spare time following and being involved in his son�s sports activities, particularly spending many winter nights at the hockey rink. He was an avid hockey fan, taking in as many Terrier and Harvest games as he could. Gracen, Darline and the boys spent many summers at the lake, camping, fishing and waterskiing. Gracen enjoyed fixing and "puttering" in the garage. Fixing anything in need of repair, he was a true handyman, helping both Ryan and Chad renovate many of their homes. He was always willing to lend a hand to his friends and neighbors. The light of Gracen�s life were his four grandsons: Tanner (7), Grady (4), Liam (5) and Tate (2). He loved to read books to them and play baseball in the backyard, helping them with their hitting and catching. He attended many of their activities, including swimming, baseball, hockey and school concerts. Gracen was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Olga Hoffman and his beloved dog, Rocky. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 35 years Darline, sons, Ryan (Nicki) and Chad (Audra) and four grandchildren, Tanner, Grady, Liam, Tate. Gracen is also survived by sister, Leona (Allan) Gerber of Valley City, ND, brother Ivan, (Ilse) Hoffman of Lethbridge, AB, and many other relatives and good friends. Funeral Services for the late Gracen Hoffman of Yorkton, beloved husband of Darline and father to Ryan and Chad, will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Andrew�s United Church, Yorkton, SK. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery. HOFFMAN - Olga (nee Kurtz) was born in Edenwold, Sk. on February 16, 1913, the fourth of five children of Frank and Charlotte (nee Renner) Kurtz. When the midwife assisting Charlotte in the birth handed the new baby to Charlotte, she said, �Here is your little Olga,� after the past queen of the new Ukraine. The name stuck and she was Olga. Olga attended elementary and high school in the Edenwold area. She enjoyed playing soft ball (first base). Olga was baptized on confession of her faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Edenwold Baptist Church when she was a young girl. On March 15, 1938, Olga married Albert Hoffman. To this union were born Leona, Ivan, and Gracen. Shortly after the Hoffmans were married, nephews Reuben and Stanley Hoffman came to live with them. Olga looked after them for some time, treating them as her own children. They resided in the Ebenezer area for about 30 years. Olga worked on the farm. She enjoyed working with the Church ladies, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir for many years. The Hoffman home was a place where family and friends gathered to enjoy Olga�s cooking and fine hospitality. In 1968, Albert and Olga moved to Yorkton. She worked at the Yorkton Union Hospital for ten years in the housekeeping department. The couple went to the Heritage Baptist Church. She worked with the ladies of the church visiting the sick and shut-ins in the community. Albert passed away July 17, 1999. They had been married for 61 years. Olga�s hobbies were crocheting, knitting, raising flowers, and putting together puzzles. She participated in a bowling league for years and won many trophies. She was a loving grandmother and great grandmother, taking an active interest in the children�s lives and supporting them in any way she could. For the last 1� years Olga lived at the Bentley retirement home. While there she took part in the activities provided, including pool, shuffleboard, and Bible studies. Olga was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, Ella Lechner, and her brother, Rudolph Kurtz. She leaves to mourn her passing her three children: Leona (Allan) Gerber of Valley City, North Dakota, Ivan (Ilse) Hoffman of Lethbridge, Alberta, and Gracen (Darline) Hoffman of Yorkton, eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Eda Frombach of Regina, Saskatchewan and Freida Frombach of Vancouver, British Columbia; brother-in-law, Gerhardt Falkowsky and sister-in-law, Gertrude Kurtz, both of Regina, Saskatchewan. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 from Heritage Baptist Church in Yorkton, Saskatchewan with Pastor Allan Gerber and Pastor Jonathan Yanke officiating. Following a reception in the Heritage Baptist Church Parish Hall, the interment service took place in the Ebenezer Cemetery with Jacqueline Hill, Natasha Hill, Cory Hoffman, Chad Hoffman, Ryan Hoffman, Arden Gerber, Larry Hoffman and Garth Kurtz serving as casket bearers. JARMAN - George T. (August 28, 1914 - August 25, 2004). George, of Saskatoon, SK, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 in St. Paul's Hospital, three days before of his 90th birthday. He battled his lengthy illness four and one-half years due to a stroke. George was born on August 28, 1914 on the family homestead in the Burgis district of Saskatchewan. He was the ninth child of thirteen children born to Todor and Safta (nee Gushulak) Jarman. He acquired his education at Poplar Spring School. He farmed near the original homestead with his Dad and in 1945 he moved to Toronto with his first wife, Anne. He worked in a steam factory in the inspection line. After work he took night classes in Electrical Refrigeration and Machinery for which he received a diploma. In 1950, he had the urge to return to the prairies he relocated to Saskatchewan and purchased a General Store and trucking business in Gorlitz, SK. He also did a lot of electrical power wiring in the surrounding districts. George then moved to Saskatoon where he purchased a gas service station on 11th Street, and later worked at the Husky Oil Co., Lone Star Auto, and Fort Ignition as service manager from where he retired in 1980. George was no stranger to hard work. He had a great passion and enjoyment for gardening and growing flowers, which always reflected in his beautiful yard. He was a lover of nature and sports, was a good bowler and curler, enjoyed playing Kaizer, socializing, and will be remembered as a good neighbor. He loved his family, whom he treated with respect and always had good practical jokes with them and in turn he received the respect he deserved. George was a long time member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of The Holy Trinity, Ukrainian Orthodox Senior Citizens Club, Mohyla Institute, TYC/Ukrainian Orthodox Men's Association, and was an NDP supporter. George was united in marriage to Rose (Werezak) in 1990, who was at his side throughout his illness. Special thanks to Dr. Basi and Dr. Ma for your professional care given to George and a heartfelt thank you to the nurses, caregivers of the District Health Region and staff of St. Paul's Hospital M5 Ward for all your special care extended to George. George was predeceased by his parents, Todor and Safta (at the age of 10 years, George's mother passed away); his first wife, Anne (Bordeniuk); five sisters, Helen Basnicki, Dorothy Wiwchar, Mary Kitchen, Katherine Kittar, Ann Kuziak; three brothers, John, Bill, Leo; and three siblings in infancy, Alex, Pauline and Metro; also by his godchild, Iris Opsahl (Wiwchar). He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life, his beloved wife, Rose; stepson, Zenon Kotelko; his pet, Ralph; sister-in-law, Ann Jarman of Regina; brother-in-law, Alex Kuziak of Yorkton; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. KOPECK - Tony entered into eternal rest on March 16, 2009 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home at the age of 90. Tony was born on February 27, 1919 to Stephan and Molly Kopeck (nee Bodnar) in the Buchanan District and settled with his parents on the farm. At the age of 4, Tony moved with his parents to Burgis, SK. where he also attended the Poplar Springs School. At a young age, Tony worked for various local farmers and then later began working at a dairy farm in Moose Jaw, SK. Tony married Agnes Beck on October 31, 1942; and the couple worked in Moose Jaw and Dinsmoore for 5 years at which time they moved to Gorlitz, SK. where they owned their own farm. In 1953 they sold the farm and moved to Stenen and continued to farm until 1967 when they moved to Yorkton. Tony also worked off the farm, on the oil rigs on the pipeline. Tony did some carpentry work and then later went into business doing floor coverings. In 1969 Tony worked for the C.N. as a sectionman until his retirement in 1984. In 2008 Tony and Agnes sold their home in Yorkton and moved into the Bentley's Retirement Complex. Tony and Agnes were also active members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Stenen and Yorkton. Tony was very involved in his children�s lives and would always be there to lend a helping hand whenever possible. In Tony�s spare time he enjoyed gardening and yard work in general to beautify his home. He enjoyed doing minor repairs around the home because he loved working with his hands and always tried to make things easier for others. Tony was a dedicated Yorkton Terrier Hockey fan, never missing any games. In his later years Tony�s favorite pastime was watching wrestling on TV. Tony was predeceased by his parents: his father Stephan in 1961, and his mother Molly in 1963. He was also predeceased by his daughter Marilyn Ann in infancy and by his great-granddaughter Joelle in infancy; his brothers, Edward, Frank, Joe, Victor, Alex, Mike and Paul; sisters-in-law Elsie and Helen, and brother-in-law Paul. Tony leaves to celebrate and rejoice in his memory his loving wife Agnes Kopeck of 66 years of marriage of Yorkton. He also leaves to celebrate in his memory his children: his son, Richard and his wife Mary Ann Kopeck of Endeavor, his daughters, Greta and her husband Bill German of Sturgis, Karen and her husband Peter German of Endeavor and Wilma and her husband Garry Pottle of Yorkton. He also leaves to rejoice in his memory his brothers: Orest and his wife Beatrice Kopeck and Nestor and his wife Gladys Kopeck; sister, Lillian Keyowski all of Melville, and sisters-in-law Mary, Mildred, Florence, Olga and Mary. He also leaves to recall his memory 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews that knew him. KREPAKEVICH - Olga (nee Tomek), widow of the late Victor Krepakevich, of Canora and formerly of York Lake, Sk. passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2009. She was 86 years of age. Olga Krepakevich was born on May 11, 1922, the daughter of Thomas and Tillie (nee Hawryluk) Tomek in Hope Valley, Alberta. Olga was united in marriage to Victor Krepakevich on June 20, 1944 in Wainwright, Alberta. The couple made their home on Krepakevich family farm in the Hamton district. They left the farm in 1958 first making their home in Rhein, Sk. before moving to Yorkton and in 1970 they moved to Ebenezer, Sk. Following Victor�s death in 1984, Olga remained in her home in Ebenezer, later relocating to York Lake. Failing health forced a move into the Canora Gateway Lodge where Olga lived until her passing. Olga was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Tillie Tomek; her husband, Victor; her son, Brian; and her daughter-in-law, Linda. She leaves to mourn her passing two sons, Collin (Louise) Krepakevich of Red Deer, AB and Duane Krepakevich of Yorkton, SK; a grandson, Todd Krepakevich of Red Deer, AB as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. KUNELLIS - Olga (nee Trost) was born on December 19, 1914 in Siberia, Russia; a daughter of Gustav and Katherine Trost. Following the war the family moved back to Germany. She attended school in the Wurtenburg and Bavarian regions. In 1928 the family immigrated to Canada. They settled in Saskatchewan, where Olga would work for various families. She was united in marriage to William Kunellis on February 22, 1942. They were blessed with two sons. They began farming in the Ebenezer district and later at Fone Hill. During their retirement years the couple resided in Yorkton. Following a hip injury Olga became a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. It is there on September 20, 2007 that she peacefully passed away at the age of 92 years. Olga's needs were few. She found joy and pleasure in the simple things in life. She took delight in seeing her family walk through the door and would welcome visitors with tea/lunch. She always worked tirelessly cleaning her home and had a special love of flowers. Predeceased by her husband William; her parents; her daughter-in-law, Irene Kunellis; brothers: Christian, Gustav and Johnny; and sisters: Tillie and Sophie. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, two sons: Harvey (Fiance, Phyllis Fitzpatrick); and Ron (Edie) of Yorkton; four grandchildren: Debbie (Keith) Hemeon of Sherwood Park AB, Dion Kunellis and Shelly Kunellis, both of Edmonton; and Kevin Kunellis of Red Deer; a great grandson Steven Kunellis of Edmonton. Also brothers, Jake and Toby; a sister Rosa, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, including her family at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. KUZIAK - Ann (nee Jarman), beloved wife of Alex Kuziak of the Bentley Manor in Yorkton, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 7, 2003. She was 94 years of age. Ann Kuziak was born on January 30th 1909 on the family farm in the Burgis district of Saskatchewan; the seventh child born to Todor and Safta (nee Gushulak) Jarman. She took her early schooling in the Burgis district, and her high school at Nutana Collegiate in Saskatoon. She obtained a teaching certificate at Moose Jaw Normal School in 1931 and taught school in the Canora and Sturgis area for four years. Ann met Alex Kuziak at a school picnic at Poplar Springs School and they were married on June 8, 1935 on the family farm. The couple resided in Canora where their three sons, Myron, David and Jerry were born. In 1952 the family moved to Regina, where their daughter Bettie Anne was born. In 1964 the family moved to Yorkton, where Ann and Alex have since resided. Due to failing health, Ann had been a resident of the Theodore Health Centre since November 22nd of last year. In her younger years, Ann had been very active in the United Church Women's Guilds in Canora, Regina and Yorkton. She was an avid supporter of the CCF and NDP, taking an active role in the party's women's groups organizing fund raising activities. In Yorkton, she spent much of her time doing volunteer work for the CO-OP and United Church Guilds. Ann had many pastimes, including knitting, gardening, golfing, bowling, and playing cards with family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who gave ceaseless time and energy caring for her family. Her four grandchildren and two great grandchildren will greatly miss their Baba, especially for all her wonderful Ukrainian family dinners. Predeceased by her parents, four sisters and six brothers, she leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life, her beloved husband Alex; sons, Myron and his partner Sara Reddon of Neudorf, SK, David of Yorkton and Jerry of Theodore; daughter Bettie Thompson and her husband Don of Theodore; grandchildren, Natalya Kuziak of Ottawa, Sara Kuziak/Jeff Grehan of Regina, Nicole Kuziak of Yorkton, and Tanya Kuziak/James Srochenski of Saltcoats; two great grandchildren, Ashley and Sabrina. LISCHYNSKI - Brent, of Regina, formerly of the Gorlitz district, beloved son of Lena and the late Bill Lischynski passed away suddenly, but peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, February 2, 2004 at the Regina General Hospital. He was 46 years of age. Brent William Lischynski was born on July 4, 1957 at Canora, Saskatchewan, a son of Bill and Lena (nee Bordun) Lischynski. He received his elementary education at Gorlitz and his high school at Canora Composite High School, graduating in 1975. He continued his education by receiving a diploma from a Driver Education Instructor's course. Brent served as a driver instructor for three years in Saskatoon before becoming a Driver Examiner with the Highway Traffic Board in Regina. Seven years later he accepted a position as a permit officer with the Department of Highways & Transportation. His final career change took him to Saskatchewan Government Insurance working as an adjuster. During his younger years, Brent participated in various sports. Through out his life time he maintained a keen interest in sports, especially football and hockey. Brent will be remembered for his knowledge of current events & politics and his loving nature that kept all children entertained in return for their love and respect. He had a great sense of humour and enjoyed to give and receive a good joke. Predeceased by his father in 1991; Brent leaves to cherish his memory his beloved mother Lena and her husband Al Knittig; sister Iris (Angelbert) Cote of Gatineau, Quebec; niece Elaine Cote of Gatineau, Quebec, nephew Brent Cote of Las Vegas, Nevada and nephew David Cote of Gatineau, Quebec; special friend Maxine Jacques of Regina and several aunts, uncles and cousins. LEONHARDT - Ernest, of Yorkton, formerly of Churchbridge, beloved husband of Lilly Leonhardt passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2000 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 91 years of age. Ernest Oscar Leonhardt was born February 17, 1909 at Ebenezer, Sask., the fifth child in a family of ten. The family moved to a farm near Theodore in 1919 where he remained until his marriage. In 1940 he chose to serve God and his faith and hope in God was a comfort to him throughout his life. On March 30, 1943 Ernest married Lilly Tulip Woods from Invermay and together they began farming at Jedburgh. In 1947 they moved to Churchbridge where they operated a mixed farm and together they shared the joys and woes of farming. A son Dennis was born in 1949 and a daughter Dianne arrived in 1954. Ernest was active on the rural telephone and school boards. When their country school was closed Ernest drove school bus for several years and throughly enjoyed this special priviledge. In 1973 they purchased a home in Churchbridge in readiness for their retirement in 1974 following the sale of their farm. They enjoyed their retirement travelling many miles in their little motorhome. They travelled overseas to visit England and several contries in Europe where their parents emigrated from. In 1993 when Ernest's health began to fail they sold their home and moved to Yorkton to be nearer their family. Ernest remained in his home until November 25, 2000, when he entered the hospital. Ernest was predeceased by his parents, Fred & Minnie Leonhardt; three brothers, Carl Leonhardt, Ed (Martha) Leonhardt and Fred Leonhardt; three sisters, Molly (Bill) Gale, Clara (Walter) Quinton and Martha Leonhardt. Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife Lilly of over 57 years; his son Dennis & wife Myrna of Abbotsford, BC; his daughter Dianne & husband Bob Carter of Yorkton; grandchildren, Dan (Les) Leonhardt, Sarah & Holly of LaSalle, MB, Lori (Kurtis) Hope, Owen & Harrison of Saskatoon, Shane (Trish) Leonhardt, Jennifer, Devon & Tyler, Malana Leonhardt, Rochelle (Lane) Hadway, Dallas Leonhardt, all of Abbotsford, BC, Jamie, Troy & Lisa Carter of Yorkton; one sister, Lydia (Bill) McDonald of Regina; two brothers, Paul (Irene) Leonhardt of Theodore and David Leonhardt of Swift Current; a sister-in-law, Mabel Leonhardt of Saskatoon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. LEONHARDT - Paul, beloved husband of Irene Leonhardt of Theodore passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2002 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre following a brief illness. He was 85 years of age. Alexander Paul Leonhardt was born on August 16, 1916 at Ebenezer, Sask; the eighth child of Frederick and Minnie (nee Kriger) Leonhardt. At the age of three, he and his family moved to a farm two miles east of Theodore. Paul and some of his brothers carried on their father's dairy and grain farm operation. On June 2, 1947 Paul was united in marriage to Irene Geck. The couple remained on the home farm and continued mixed farming until they sold the dairy herd in 1956, after which they concentrated on grain farming. Paul was also a Smith-Roles equipment sales representative for about 20 years. During their many farming years, the highlight for Paul and Irene was the yearly conventions on their farm, which had been held there since 1929. In March of 1980, Paul and Irene retired into Theodore, where they have since resided. The couple enjoyed taking many trips overseas and throughout Canada and the United States. They greatly enjoyed the times spent in the company of their four grandsons camping, fishing and hunting. In his farming days, Paul was active on various community committees and in his retirement, he was a very willing volunteer, most notably for the East Central Health District. He was predeceased by his parents, siblings Carl and Martha in Germany, Edward (Martha), Fred and Ernest, Molly (Bill) Gale and Clara (Walter) Quinton. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Irene; daughter Janice (George) Cobb; four grandsons, Jeffrey of Fort Qu'Appelle, Jolan (Julie) and their daughter Megan Jane of Wroxton, Jayden (Donna) and their sons Trae Alexander, Brett Jayden and Bryn Stanley George of Fort Qu'Appelle; and Justin, presently of Strathmore AB. Also surviving are his sister Lydia (Bill) McDonald and brother David, sisters-in-law Mabel Leonhardt and Lilly Leonhardt, as well as several nieces, nephews and many good friends. Mr. Jack Redekopp officiated at the graveside, the committal hymn was 'Called Home To Rest'. LOZINSKI - Mary (nee Heska). The family of Mary Lozinski announce her passing on Monday, September 22, 2008 at the Canora Gateway Lodge. She was 94 years of age. Mary Lozinski was born on December 4, 1913 on the family farm near Burgis, Saskatchewan, the second eldest child of Nick and Annie (nee Horichuk) Heshka. She grew up on the family farm and attended the old Wexford School. The school was located four miles from her home, across the Whitesand River Bridge. The bridge was prone to flooding, and Mary recalled many stories of missing school due to the flooding. As a young woman, Mary was a bit of a tomboy, preferring to help her father with the farm work, while her younger siblings helped their mother in the house. When Mary met her future husband, Joseph G. Lozinski, there were no cars. On horseback, bicycle or walking was their method of transportation for courting. Mary and Joe were married on October 25, 1934 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church west of Donwell and they made their home on the farm one mile north of the Church. Times were tough in the 30's and 40's, there was lots of hard work, dry years, hail storms and no insurance. When money got too tight, both Mary and Joe went to work for friends and neighbours in the area. Together they got through the tough times and through it all raised a son, Angus and a daughter, Sylvia. In 1972 they retired and moved into the town of Canora. After Joe�s passing, Mary continued to live in their home, until February of 2006 when she became a resident of the Canora Gateway Lodge where she resided until her passing. Mary kept busy with hobbies including knitting, crocheting and a variety of different crafts as well as playing bingo and attending garage sales. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Gateway Lodge and Canora Hospital. A real �get up and go� kind of person, Mary was always ready and willing to help family, friends and neighbours. She grew a large garden with lots of flowers, raspberries, strawberries, gooseberries and an orchard of pincherry trees - enough to share with anyone who wanted. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Joe; her parents, Nick and Annie Heshka; her brothers, John, George, Bill and Mike and her sisters, Lena Filipchuk, Pauline Denys and Ann Luchanko. Edna Nuella Lubyk was born November 2, 1938 in Ebenezer, SK and attended Central School in Prince Albert. While working in Prince Albert she met Clarence Lubyk and they were married on November 2, 1957. Edna and Clarence farmed together in the Smeaton area and also operated the grocery store in Shipman for numerous years while raising their two children. LYS - Lena (nee Anaka) was born at Gorlitz, Sask. to John and Mary Anaka on January 25, 1918. She passed away peacefully on August 23, 2005 with her family by her side. Lena came to Moose Jaw on October 29, 1939. She married Urban Lys on June 8, 1941. Urban predeceased Lena on March 2, 1965. She leaves to mourn, her daughter, Linda (Bob) Biss of Radville, Saskatchewan and grandchildren: Dawn, Scott, Jeff and Michael. She also leaves to mourn, one sister, Mary Koshman, special friend, Anne Romanuk, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lena's life was lived serving others. She was satisfied with a simple life, treasuring her family, friends, garden, crocheting, knitting, sewing and cooking, especially perogies. A Celebration of Lena's life will be held at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption, Moose Jaw on Saturday, August 27, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Father Yurij Lazurko will preside. An evening prayer service will be held Friday, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Church. Father Leonard Romanow will officiate. MATLOCK - Gertrude Ethel Jean (nee Howe) March 13, 1922- December 16, 2009. Gertrude Ethel Jean passed away at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon at the age of 87 years on Wednesday, December 16, 2009. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Penny (Bernard) Laarveld and grandsons Vincent Avery of Calgary and Brian Edward of Saskatoon; sister Joyce Matthews and niece Wendy (Gary) Green of Burnaby, B.C. and nephew Gary (Janet) Matthews and children Darren and Jennifer of Langley, B.C. She was predeceased by her husband Avery Elwood in 2001 and by their daughter Llona Mae in 1970. Jean was born to Albert LeRoy and Sarah Margaret Howe (nee Cameron) in Roblin, MB. She grew up in Rama, Invermay and Ketchen, SK. Jean trained at Normal School (1943-44) and for several years taught grades 1-12 at Langenou, Ebenezer district, where she met Avery, and then worked at the Bank of Montreal in Yorkton. Jean married Avery on June 4, 1951. After living in Winnipeg for many years, the family returned to farm the homestead in Gorlitz, SK. Here she was very active as bookkeeper for the Curling Club and the Ebenezer Telephone Co. In 1984 she and Avery retired to Saskatoon. Jean was a vibrant and caring woman who always maintained a great outlook on life, even during times of hardship. Family and friendships were very important to her. The family wishes to thank Dr. R.K. Avinashi and the attending staff at St Paul's Hospital for their kindness and dedication to Jean during her illness, the staff at Oliver Lodge and at Baraka Care Home. The family also wishes to thank Jean's dear friends Kay Marteniuk, Theresa Richards, Margaret Pawluck and Grace Remenda for their friendship and support, especially as her health declined. A memorial service will be held at interment at the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby B.C. at a future date. MINKE - Helena (nee Weber), beloved wife of the late Alex Minke, formerly of Yorkton, passed away to her Heavenly Home on December 26, 2008 at the Drumheller Health Centre at 90 years of age. Lena was born on January 19, 1918 at Ebenezer, SK to William and Julia Weber. At the age of 3, Lena became inflicted with polio and had endured having many casts as a child and in her teen years had corrective surgery. Lena attended a country school near Ebenezer. Besides school, Lena had many chores and worked hard as a child. As hard as everyone worked, there was always time to visit with the neighbours. Lena spoke fondly of the Country Baptist church nearby which she had attended faithfully with her parents, close neighbours and childhood friends. On November 23, 1938, Lena was united in marriage to Alex Minke. After their marriage they started farming in the Ebenezer area and then purchased land near Springside where they built the home that they lived in for many years. Alex and Lena were blessed with two daughters, Bernice and Carol. As well as being very devoted to her family, Lena was very devoted to working hard along side her husband. She was his helpmate in every aspect of farming. Lena could often be found in the large garden on the farm. It was here that she gathered many of the vegetables that she would use for canning. Lena would can garden vegetables and fresh fruit, as well as make jam from saskatoons and other wild berries. Lena enjoyed company and will be remembered for the good home cooked meals and the wonderful smell of fresh homemade bread she prepared for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lena�s hands were always busy. Due to her childhood polio, Lena�s legs were not that strong, but she would never complain. Lena was always faithful, her God was her strength and every evening she would read her Bible and pray. Lena included her family in all of her prayers. Church was always an important part of Lena�s life. She was a long time member of the Apostolic Valley Church in Springside and then the Apostolic Church in Yorkton. In 1966 Alex and Lena moved from Springside into Yorkton. It was soon after that she began working at the Yorkton Union Hospital in housekeeping for about 5 years. In Yorkton Lena had a huge garden just like the one on the farm. She took pride in her beautiful flowers. Lena enjoyed going fishing in these years. In 1990 Lena moved to the Independent Manor and lived there until August 2003 when she moved to Drumheller to be closer to her daughter, Carol and family that lived there. Lena always valued her independence in being able to take care of herself. She lived for a short time in an apartment in Drumheller and then entered the Drumheller Sunshine Lodge in 2004 where she was a resident until her passing. After Lena�s move to Drumheller, she attended the Alliance Church. When it became difficult to attend, she would enjoy the church services at the Lodge. In the Lodge she made many new friends and enjoyed going out with her daughter, Carol for coffee, meals and to the family farm for holiday meals. Drumheller was a new experience for Lena and she marveled at the large hills as to her they seemed like mountains. For Mother�s Day Lena was taken to see the mountains near Banff and it was an experience that she never forgot. Lena was predeceased by her parents, William and Julia Weber; her husband, Alex; her daughter, Bernice Doerksen; her grandson, Kevin Evert; her brother, Theodore Weber and her son-in-law, Roy Doerksen. Funeral service for Lena Ostafie, 72, of Yorkton, and formerly of the Burgis district, who died February 25, 2006 at Regina General Hospital, was held March 2 at Westview United Church in Yorkton with Faye L. Born October 16, 1933 in the Burgis district to Henry and Helen (nee Gawryluik) Kobylka, she attended East Wexford, Cedric and Bogucz schools. On October 15, 1950, she married Edward Ostafie. She worked at the Gateway Lodge in Canora, then, after moving to Yorkton, she worked at Yorkton Union Hospital until 1981. Predeceased by her mother in 1968, her father in 1986, a sister, Mary Filipchuk in 2000, and a brother, Mike Gawryluik in 2005, she is survived by her husband; one daughter, Sharon (David Atwater) of Yorkton; one son, Ken (Jackie) of Yorkton; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. OYSTRYK - Elsie (nee Andrusiak), beloved wife of John D. Oystryk of Yorkton, formerly of the Mazeppa district passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2002 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre following a lengthy illness with parkinsons and lately with cancer. She was 74 years, 11 months and 30 days of age. Elsie was born on January 18, 1927 to Mike and Sophie (nee Boychuk) Andrusiak in the Donwell district. She attended Mazeppa School. Elsie was united in marriage to John D. Oystryk on June 20, 1948. The couple farmed in the Mazeppa district until 1977 when they retired to Yorkton. Elsie was a faithful parishioner of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, both at Mazeppa and Yorkton. She was also an active member of the Women's Association also at Mazeppa and Yorkton. She enjoyed cooking and having friends and relatives over. Elsie also enjoyed travelling; trips that took John and her to the West Coast, Alaska, Hawaii, California and also spending a number of winters in Texas. Elsie was predeceased by an infant daughter; her sons, Harvey and Allan in 1975; her dad in 1950, her mother in 1969; a sister Mary Boychuk in 2001; brothers-in-law Steve Boychuk in 1998 and Nick Antoniuk in 1993 and a niece Linda Boychuk in 1971. She is survived by her husband John; sister Anne Antoniuk; nieces, Virginia (Jerry) Hamm and family; Alicia (Orest) Hubic and their son; Shirley Major and her daughter; and Sandy Boychuk; as well as numerous relatives and friends. Prayer services were held on Sunday, January 20th at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 21st at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Richard Ehrmantraut officiating. PANCHUK - John, beloved husband of Lena of Yorkton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 9, 2003 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 77 years of age. John Panchuk was born on September 17, 1925 on a farm near Gorlitz, Sask. He was the second youngest of the seven children born to Wasyl and Oksana Panchuk. John received his early education at Bridok School where he was also an avid baseball player and sports enthusiast; an interest he enjoyed for the rest of his life. In his late teens he attended a technical school in Edmonton where he received a mechanical and welding certificate. Upon his return he put these skills to use at Young's Garage. On October 6, 1950 he married Lena Demchuk of Yorkton, his loving and devoted partner of 52 years. In 1956 he established his own business, the Husky Service Centre and Bulk Station which he operated for 35 years. He took tremendous pride in providing excellent service for all of his customers and friends. His sales achievements offered him numerous opportunities to travel worldwide. Along with his business interests he also farmed for more than 25 years. John also enjoyed being part of the Yorkton community as a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Rotary Club and St. Andrew's United Church. Above all, John treasured his family. He was very proud of his three daughters and was a devoted grandfather to his six grandchildren. He will be remembered for the joy he experienced when his family was together celebrating many special occasions throughout the years. He also enjoyed playing bridge and celebrating special times with his friends. John was predeceased by his parents and his sister Kay Procyshen. Soloist, Cherie Brown sang 'On Eagles Wings' and memories of Grandpa were given by Lucas Robinson. The inurnment took place in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Columbarium with grandson Robert Jenner as urnbearer. PATZER - Eric, beloved husband of Olive Patzer of Saskatoon, formerly of Yorkton, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at the Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon. He was 87 years of age. Eric Patzer was born on January 12, 1915 in the Ebenezer district of Saskatchewan; a son of Edward and Emma (nee Sichau) Patzer. He attended a rural country school and completed his education at Ebenezer. As a young man Eric established his own farm but also did carpentry work as well. On October 28, 1942 he was united in marriage to Olive Florence Horn. Eric and Olive farmed for a time before moving to Windsor, Ontario. They resided there before moving to Edmonton. The couple eventually returned to Saskatchewan and settled into farming life in the Springside district. In 1965 Eric retired from farming because of health reasons and the couple moved into Yorkton. They resided at Independent Manor for about 10 years before moving to the Luther Heights Seniors Centre in Saskatoon in June of 2001. As his health further declined he became a resident of the Sherbrooke Community Center for the past four months. Eric was a friendly, outgoing individual who enjoyed the company of others. In his younger days he was considered a jack-of-all-trades and was an excellent mechanic. He took great pride in his horses that he raised during his farming years. Fishing was a favourite pastime in his retirement. Eric and Olive had also been faithful members of the Church of the Nazarene in Yorkton. Predeceased by a daughter Lynne in 1957, a sister in infancy, and by brothers Arnold and Lawrence. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Olive of Saskatoon; daughter Gail and her husband Dr. Collin Bowman of Saskatoon; grandchildren Courtney and Stephen; brothers Wilfred (Frances) of Ebenezer, Allan (Lila) of Ebenezer, Harold (Elaine) of Yorkton; sisters, Olga Fandrey of Yorkton, Edna Bohn of Ebenezer and Alice Mayer of Calgary, numerous nieces, nephews, and his many other relatives and friends. PAULO - Pauline (nee Shlahetka), beloved mother of Marshal Paulo of Calgary and formerly of Yorkton, passed away peacefully at Cedars Villa home in Calgary on March 8, 2007. She was 91 years of age. Pauline was born on December 4, 1915, in the Whitesand District near Good Spirit Lake, Sask. to Metro and Anna Shlahetka. In 1935 she married Mike Paulo and together they homesteaded near Stenen. They continued farming, first near Sturgis and later Hazel Dell, until 1960 when they moved to Yorkton. There Pauline worked at the local television station CKOS as a caretaker and film editor. Pauline was never idle. Cooking, quilting, knitting, sewing � there was always something to be done � but her real passion was gardening. In their leisure time, she and Mike enjoyed fishing and getting together with friends for a game of cards. In 1990, they moved to Calgary to be near their son Marshal. Living in a high rise apartment was a big change. Undaunted, she took on big city traffic at the age of 75, loading up Mike and his wheelchair to go shopping or tend garden at her son�s house. Pauline was predeceased by her husband, Mike in 1999, their son, George in 2004 and sister, Maggie Yuzek. She leaves to mourn and will be sadly missed by her son, Marshal (Rita) of Calgary, Alberta, sisters, Polly Mintenko and Marie Lischynski, brother, Melfort (Ann) Shlahetka, all of Yorkton, and daughter-in-law, Sally Paulo of Goderich, Ontario. She also leaves her grandchildren, Mark Paulo, Brenda (Ian) Begg, George (Pat) Paulo, Allan Paulo, Maggie (Mitch) Burtnick, and their mother, Rolande Paulo, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. PROCYSHYN - Alfred, beloved husband of Leona Procyshyn of Yorkton entered eternal rest on Monday, December 11, 2000. He was 64 years of age. Alfred was born on January 4, 1936 to Peter and Mary (nee Sawchuk) Procyshyn in the Gorlitz District of Saskatchewan. Alfred cherished beyond anything else his wife, Leona, his children and his grandchildren. He enjoyed life to the fullest by being an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter and friend to all he met. He lived a wonderful life, leaving a loving and lasting impression on everyone he touched. Alfred is predeceased by his parents, Peter and Mary Procyshyn, originally of Gorlitz, Saskatchewan, and an infant son, Douglas Gordon. He leaves to this world his beloved soul-mate, Leona; his children: Don (Sherry) Procyshyn of Vivian, Louisiana, Ken (Cheryl) Procyshyn of Yorkton, Evanne Procyshyn of Calgary, and Paul (Beryl) Procyshyn of Regina. His beloved grandchildren: Krisitin and Mathew Procyshyn of Estevan, Ashley, Nichele and Brittany of Regina and Tyler of Vivian, Louisiana. PROCYSHEN - Avery Wesley passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at the Pasqua Hospital on Friday November 25, 2005, after a short courageous battle with cancer. Avery was born June 1, 1940 to Peter and Lillian Procyshen. He attended Donwell Public School, Canora High School and the Technical School at Moose Jaw and Saskatoon for Motor Mechanics. He worked at Erickson�s Garage in Canora, and Deer Park Esso in Yorkton. On October 5, 1962 he married his high school sweetheart Adeline Owchar. The following year they moved to Donwell to help his ailing father with the Shell Gas business, the family farms and the P & L Supplies Store. He owned the Bulk Texaco distribution business until 1990. He continued farming and running the store until his passing. Avery leaves wonderful memories for his wife of 43 years, Adeline; his sisters Iris Cymbalisty of Canora, and Patti (Leonard) Gatzke of Swift Current; their children, Melanie Gatzke of Lethbridge, Wendy (Kevin) Tuchscherer of Swift Current and Tony Gatzke of Regina; niece Trisha Prychak (Kevin Dureau) of Regina; sisters-in-law Violet (Alfred) Wasyliw of Canora, Sylvia Humeniuk (Lance) of Yorkton; brothers-in-law Charlie Prychak of Rama, and Myron (Stephanie) Owchar of Canora. Also many nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, 13 godchildren and many very close long-time friends. Avery loved life. He loved to make people laugh. With his famous disappearing thumb, he entranced hundreds of children and adults. He loved music and with his famous bass tub he performed at many functions. He loved to dance, to sing at church, at sing songs, or with his record collection. Gardening, fishing, hunting, and the challenge of fixing things were his pleasures. Avery was a member of the Sask. Wheat Pool committee of Donwell, Hampton, Gorlitz, and later Canora for over 30 years. He was also on the Mikado Recreational Board, church elder for Donwell West Transfiguration Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church and often referred to as the Mayor of Donwell. He played baseball with the Donwell Supers team, coached the boys baseball team, played broomball, curled and bowled on the "Incredibles" team. He was involved with Rural Crime Watch and Hunter Safety classes. Avery was predeceased by his father Peter W. Procyshen (1971), mother Lillian (1993) twin sisters Sylvia and Stephanie in infancy, father-in-law Mike Owchar (1972), mother-in-law Agnes in 1999, brothers-in-law John Cymbalisty (1972) and Ernie Humeniuk (1983), sister-in-law Sonia Prychak (2005). Interment in Yorkton Memorial Gardens. SAUER - Bernice Mildred (nee Matychuk). On Saturday, November 3, 2001 Bernice Mildred Sauer of Regina, SK passed away. Bernice was born on the family farm located in the Gorlitz/Good Spirit Lake area. She was the proud daughter of Joe and Rose (nee Heshka) Matychuk. Bernice attended Black Poplar School. Bernice married Albert Koptie. Together they were blessed with two children, Kevin Albert and Tracey Leanne. Bernice worked for Sears in Regina for many years, then at the Ukrainian Co-op for the past nine years. On October 12, 1996 Bernice married Raymond Sauer and they resided in Regina. Bernice is survived by her husband Raymond; children Kevin (Rebecca) of Lemberg and Tracey (Blaine) Adams of Gorlitz; her grandchildren of which she was especially proud; Ashley, Jake, Jared, Tekena, Shaylene and little Kevin, Heavenlee and Michael; siblings Betty (Brian) Maddex of Fanny Bay, BC, Judy (Howard) Manchur of Regina, Joey of Regina, Sally (Ed) Spencer of Lethbridge, Tommy ( Dolly) of Bowser, BC, Melvin (Brigette) of Saltcoats, Brenda (Dave) Korolek of Stockholm, Alvin (Brenda) of Regina, Debbie (Harry) of Yorkton, Bonnie (Donnie) Ryhorchuk of Regina, Teddy (Kim) of Canora, Sherry (Mervin) Oystrich of Yorkton; one brother-in-law Gordon Spilak of Yorkton; sisters-in-law Veronica Matychuk of Calgary and Joyce (Bob) Kress; and mother-in-law Hermine Sauer. Bernice was predeceased by her parents Joe and Rose Matychuk; brothers Jerry and Johnny; and sisters Phyliss and Valerie. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 2501 Elliott St., Regina, SK, with Pastor Lindsay Hognestad, officiating. SCHELLER - David "Dave" August Scheller was born May 18, 1923 on the family farm in the Yorkton district; a son to Martha (nee Stebner) and Julius Scheller. He was the eldest son in a family of 12. Dave received his education in the Ebenezer and Wallace districts. He joined the army in 1940 and while enlisted married Jenny McNeil in 1941 at Barrie, ON. After his discharge in 1945 they moved to the Ebenezer district for a short time before moving to Toronto. Dave and Jenny had two children, Patsy and Wayne. Jenny passed away in 1954. Dave worked for the CN Railroad for 12 years then for the AbCo Chemical Company. He married Connie Witiger and they had two children, Cindy and David. Dave and Connie moved back to Yorkton to enjoy their retirement. When Dave was no longer able to be on his own he moved into the Yorkton and District Nursing Home and enjoyed the last four years making new friends and participating in many activities. A very enjoyable time for Dave was when his grandson Derrick would join him and take part in the Remembrance Day Service. David passed away on Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Nursing Home. He was 87 years of age. He was predeceased by parents Julius and Martha; wife Jenny; wife Connie; son Wayne; daughter Cindy; brothers Joseph, Albert, Paul, Leslie, and Lorne; sisters Gertrude Philip, Margret Jacobs, and Erma Lockhart; and by a son-in-law, Fred Nearing. He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Patsy Nearing of Cape Breton Island; son David (Sharon) of Toronto; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Violet Mills, Bernice Scheller and Elizabeth (Bill) Popowich; four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held on Thursday afternoon, March 3, 2011 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home with Crystal Bailey officiating. Hymns played were 'Amazing Grace', 'Church in the Wildwood', and 'In the Garden'. Members of the General Alexander Ross branch of the Royal Canadian Legion were in attendance and performed the Legion Tribute Service. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Christopher Popowich serving as the urnbearer. SCHRADER - Mary (nee Bartsch), resident of Jubilee Cres. in Yorkton, passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 2, 2003 at her residence. She was 85 years of age. Mary Schrader was born north-west of Saskatoon on July 19, 1917 at Great Deer, Sask; a daughter of Katherina (nee Neudorf) and Henry Bartsch. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in the district. On November 9, 1941 she was united in marriage to Adolf Schrader at Great deer. Following their marriage the couple resided in the Ebenezer-White Sand River district from 1941 to 1945, when they moved to Park Valley, near Debden, Sask. They resided there until 1961, when they moved to Shellbrook, Saskatchewan for one year. In 1962 they moved to make their home in the village of Ebenezer until eventually moving to Yorkton in 1971, where they had since resided. During her life on the farm, Mary was a tireless worker, homemaker and companion to Adolf. After moving to Yorkton Mary kept busy for a few years by doing office cleaning for local businesses. In 1973 the couple became residents of Jubilee Cres. and soon made many new friends. Her pastimes included knitting and crocheting, and socializing with her neighbors, friends, and her family. She was a faithful member of the Worldwide Church of God; her beliefs were deeply rooted in her faith. Adolf passed away in 1988, and following that time Mary continued to maintain her independence and care for herself for many years after. Although her health had been in serious decline this past five years Mary suffered with dignity and without complaint. Besides her husband Adolf, she was predeceased by a daughter Gladys Nesbitt; her parents; twin brothers in infancy; brothers Isaac, John, Jacob and Henry; by sisters Mary and Annie, both in childhood; and sisters Tina Bergen, Nettie Wall and Helen Heppner. She leaves to cherish her memory her five sons: Donald (Bev) of Yorkton; Rueben(Betty) of Thunder Bay, ON; Stan (Ellen) of Walla Walla, Washington; David (Barb) of Ebenezer; and William (Maureen) of Calgary; son-in-law, Ben Nesbitt of Willowbrook; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; a sister Annie Matschke of Abbotsford BC; and sisters-in-law Anne Bartsch and Susan Bartsch; numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends, including a special friend Evelyn Unyi. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 7, 2003 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Pastor Trevor Cherry of the Worldwide Church of God officiated. The organist, Vange Shipowick led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Amazing Grace' and 'Shall We Gather at the River'. The organ recessional hymn was 'The Golden Morning is Fast Approaching'. The interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery with Kevin, Russell and Jason Schrader, Trevor Krayco, Clayton Bassingthwaite, Trevor Kraco, Norman Pries and Randy Nesbitt serving as the casketbearers. SHOUCHUK - Susie (nee Procyshen), formerly of Gorlitz and Yorkton, widow of Mike Shouchuk passed away on June 22, 2009. She was 91 years of age. Susie was born May 24, 1918 in the Gorlitz district to Alec and Stella Procyshen (nee Romaniuk). She received her education at Ukraina School. Susie was united in marriage to Mike Shouchuk of the Hamton district on May 27, 1937. The couple established their home in Gorlitz where they raised their three children. Susie was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. In 1978 Mike & Susie retired to Yorkton where Susie continued her interest in gardening and crocheting. In 2002, Susie moved to Queen Elizabeth Court where she resided for 21/2 years. In 2004, due to ill health, Susie became a permanent resident in the Long-Term facility of the Canora Hospital and resided there until her death. Besides her parents, Susie was predeceased by her husband Mike in 1998; her sister Mary Anaka and four brothers Peter, George, Bill and Metro Procyshen. She leaves to cherish her memory, a son Harvey (Liz) of Saskatoon; two daughters Gloria (Jacob) Leniuk of Moose Jaw and Marilyn (Edward) Anaka of Gorlitz; eight grandchildren, Richard, Gregory (Michelle) and Loretta Leniuk; Terry (Kelly) Shouchuk, Charlene (Darryl) Priel; Dale (Anna) Anaka, Doreen (Jeremy) Lane, Deanne (Barry) Anderson; eleven great grandchildren, Danielle & Meagan Priel; Ashley & Brittany Shouchuk; Jayden, Brennan & Meghan Lane; Ethan, Kevin & Kyra Anderson; Nathaniel & Rebecca Leniuk; her sisters Lena Wiwchar of Regina and Nellie Wasyliw of Canora; two sisters-in-law Lena Shouchuk of Mission, BC and Vicky Procyshen of Yorkton and brother-in-law Eli Anaka of Saskatoon. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. Prayers were held on Friday, June 26th and the funeral service on Saturday, June 27th at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Serving as honorary bearers were Loretta Leniuk, Charlene Priel, Deanne Anderson and Doreen Lane. Dale Anaka shared words of reflection. TEMPLETON - Robert Alexander "Bob". Bob Templeton's family sadly announces his passing on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at the Circle Drive Special Care Home in Saskatoon, Sask. Bob, age 81, passed quietly after a valiant battle with lung cancer. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Martha Templeton in 1996. Bob's passing is mourned by his daughter Jean Whittaker (Steve) and three sons, Blair (Padma), Derek (Beverly) and Bruce (Laura-Gail) Templeton and eight grandchildren and his sister Jean Hamilton (Bill) and extended family. Bob Templeton was born on June 3, 1925 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Alexander and Clara Antoinette Templeton. In 1942, Bob became a third generation railroader, apprenticed as a Machinist at the CNR Fort Rouge shops. Bob joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943, training as a radar technician. He served honourably aboard HMS Belfast and HMCS Uganda, seeing action in the Atlantic, North Sea, Mediterranean and Pacific theaters. Bob participated in the December, 1943 battle with KM Scharnhorst and the famed Murmansk convoys. Serving past VJ day in 1945, Bob returned to Winnipeg and the CNR. Bob met and married his life partner Martha Templeton (nee Wiwchar) in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan in 1954. They had four children and provided them with a rich and inspiring upbringing. In his sunset years, Bob was proud of the professional success of his children: a nurse, a surgeon and two engineers. In 1956 they moved to Winnipeg residing in a VA house on Greendell Avenue in St Vital. In 1968 Bob and the family moved to Montreal, living on Fredmir Street in Pierrefonds. In 1979 Bob and Martha returned to Winnipeg, rebuilding their Greendell home. In 1988 they moved to Canora, Sask., returning to Martha's Wiwchar family homestead farm. Since 1997 Bob has been residing in Saskatoon most recently at the Sierras of Erindale condominiums on Keevil Crescent. In his final months, Bob benefited from the loving care of the Circle Drive Special Care Home in Saskatoon. Bob remained with the CNR until his retirement in 1985. Bob participated in the exciting days of transition from Steam to Diesel and Diesel-Electric Locomotives on the Canadian railroads. He was successful in many areas of endeavour with the railroad, serving in the Shops, Mechanical, Motive Power and Headquarters assignments. Bob was Manager, Motive Power of the Pointe Ste Charles Works in Montreal during the 1970 and 1980s. Upon his retirement in 1985, Bob and Martha enjoyed world wide travel adventures and treasured visits to their dispersed children. Bob Templeton was a life long Mason, affiliated with the Kamsak Temple. Bob maintained his mechanical skills over the years, always able to get things working. His handmade furniture will be treasured by his children. Bob has requested a private cremation. Donations in lieu of flowers should be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society or Circle Drive Special Care Home in Saskatoon. His ashes will be interred beside Martha at their Home Church in Gorlitz, Sask. There will be a family celebration of Bob Templeton's life on June 3, 2007 at the Church grounds. WEBER - Vivian Ann of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Thursday April 16, 2009. She was 80 years old. Vivian was born on September 15, 1928 in Yorkton Sask. She was raised in the Ebenezer district and attended the district school before moving to Yorkton - graduating from Yorkton Collegiate. She furthered her education by enrolling in the Nursing Program at Yorkton General Hospital and completed her studies in 1950. She married Charles Weber on September 29, 1951. Vivian continued to nurse until she decided to stay at home and raise her two sons; Brian and Brent, nursing casually. Her life was filled with raising her family, attending Roughrider games, bowling, golfing, and curling. She was an avid bridge player, a member of the Royal Purple, and an excellent baker. Many will remember her wonderful butter tarts, lemon tarts, pies and scuffles just to mention a few of her delicious creations. She will also be remembered for her gracious hostess abilities. As would happen, many times she would make sure that her guests were comfortable and looked after like a member of royalty. As well, Vivian was always well dressed even when she took part in her other favourite pastime - shopping. Her summers were spent golfing and enjoying time at their cabins at both York and Madge Lake and her winters travelling down south. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Vivian took great pleasure in their accomplishments and attended many of their extracurricular activities. Vivian became a resident of the Weber House at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home on November 2, 2005. Vivian leaves to cherish her memory and to celebrate her life her son Brian (Laureen) and their children Kristin, Lindsay (daughter Alexi), and Doug; son Brent (Kathy) and their children Brittany & Christopher Terleski (son Rylan), Jennifer, and Brooklyn. Vivian also leaves her brother Danny and his wife Sally Bonnet of White Rock, BC. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Charles and sisters: Annie Bonnet, Laura Cudmore, Lena Pollock and Dorothy Rowan. WEGNER - Albert, of Yorkton, formerly of the Ebenezer area, beloved husband of Elsie Wegner passed away peacefully at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on September 23, 2009 at the age of 88 years. Albert was born to John & Julianna (Reske) Wegner on February 14, 1921 in the Rhein district; the youngest of twelve children. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein. He received his education in the Rhein and Wallace district schools. After receiving his grade VIII he left school to help on the family farm. Albert and his brother Edward purchased the Carson Ranch west of Ebenezer in 1948 and established the Wegner Brothers � Whitesand River Ranch and raised Registered Horned Hereford cattle for almost forty years. Over the years they received many trophies and awards and in 1994 they were inducted into the Canadian Hereford Association and recognized for being Hereford Breeders of Distinction. Albert�s other interests included old time country music, harness racing and baseball. He loved attending Yorkton Terrier hockey games during the winter and sports days in the summer. Albert married his true love Elsie (Riemer) on September 23, 1949 in Yorkton, SK and this union was blessed with four daughters. Predeceased by his parents, five brothers and six sisters; Albert will be sadly missed by his wife of sixty years, Elsie; his daughters Sharon (Doug) Fenske of Leduc, AB, Mavis (Kirby) Hugo of Claresholm, AB, Janice (Jay) Doty of Calgary, AB and Cheryl (Terry) Deck of Lumsden, SK; his grandchildren Hal (Christina), Curtis, Cody, Dana, Mikayla, Owen, Brady, Shelby and Sara; great � grandchildren Luke and Peytan. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Eugenie Wegner of Yorkton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. WEGNER � Mervin, beloved husband of Arlene of Ebenezer passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Mervin Gus Wegner was born on June 18, 1950 at Yorkton to Gustaf and Emma Wegner. He received his education in Langenau, Ebenezer and Canora Schools and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Mervin began faming with his father and brother and also worked at various other jobs including driving school bus, construction of the Parkland Mall and worked with the Yorkton Exhibition at cattle shows for many years. On April 26, 1975 Mervin was united in marriage to Arlene Pister in Rhein. The couple resided on a farm in the Ebenezer district. The couple were blessed with three children Calla, Jay-Lyn and Tyler. A few years later they moved into Ebenezer. In 2004 Mervin and Arlene moved to Yorkton to take care of Arlene�s mother and recently they moved back to Ebenezer. In 2000 Mervin retired from farming on his own but continued to use his farming skills by helping family and friends up until his sudden passing on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Mervin, better known to most of us as Stanley enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends. His two granddaughters McKenna and Rylan were precious to him. He spent many hours turning the skipping rope and watching them dance. Mervin was very entertaining to be around and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory and to celebrate his life his wife Arlene; daughter Jay-Lyn (Damon) Radison; son Tyler; two granddaughters McKenna and Rylan Radison; a sister Audrey (Grant) Martel; sister-in-law Barb (Gerald) Wegner; brothers-in-law Garry (Glennis) Pister, Grant (Joelann) Pister; sisters-in-law Shirley (Alfred) Ostafie, Barbara (Jiggs) McLeod, Marilyn (Allan) Todoschuk and Sherry (Gerry) Schnell and numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends. WILES - Sharon Joy (nee Zimmer) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at the age of 69 years. Sharon is predeceased by her father, John Zimmer; brother-in-law, Morrison Morley; and sister-in-law, Jean Martindale. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, D. Gordon Wiles, daughters Heather (John) Morris of Moose Jaw, and Regan Wiles of Regina. She is also survived by her mother, Dorothy Zimmer of Yorkton, sister Joan (Bill) Hansen of Yorkton, granddaughters Jane and Molly Morris of Moose Jaw, and several nieces and nephews. Sharon was raised on the family farm near Ebenezer, attended Bryntirion Public School, graduated Yorkton Collegiate Institute, and attended business school in Regina. She received a certificate of administration from the University of Regina. She enjoyed a career in public service, and retired in 2001 as a Property Administrator in the RCMP's "F " Division. She was an avid volunteer and sports fan. She enjoyed travelling, gardening, taking art classes, and learning to play the piano. She loved doing crafts and playing with her grandchildren. Sharon attended Regina Symphony Orchestra and Globe Theatre productions, and supported both through fundraising activities. She also served a term on the Board of Managers at First Presbyterian Church, and was active in the church since joining in 1960. In recent years, she volunteered with the Veteran's Wing of the Wascana Rehab Centre, Government House, and the Regina Garden Associates, Inc. She worked on publicity and promotions for the Regina Garden Associates, Inc. She also worked in their store, tended to plants, and enjoyed their fellowship. In the RGA, she found like-minded volunteers who shared her passion for gardening. Following cremation, a graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Riverside Memorial Park, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East, Regina. WIWCHAR - Lena (nee Procyshen) August 20, 1913 - January 6, 2010. Lena Wiwchar passed away peacefully at Sunset Extendicare on Wednesday January 6, 2010 at the age of 96 years. She was predeceased by her husband William Wiwchar of 55 years; daughters Grace Schneider and Cindy Lou Wiwchar; son-in-law Don Blais; brothers Peter, George, Metro and William Procyshen; sisters Susie Shouchuk and Mary Anaka. Lena will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Delia (Dale) Laird and their sons Quinn and Brenndan (Andrea); daughter Caroline Blais and her son Koby (Zena); sister Nellie Wasyliw; as well as many nieces and nephews. Lena grew up in Gorlitz and moved to Regina where she and Bill raised their family. Lena worked at Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home for 25 years. Her garden was her pride and joy and she always had a bouquet of fresh flowers in the house. After Bill passed she continued to live on Edward St. until 1999 and then moved into Selo Gardens. In 2007 Sunset Extendicare Home became her home. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. With sadness, the family of Orest Wiwchar announces that he passed away at the age of 79 on Tuesday, August, 4 2009 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre after a brief battle with cancer. Orest was born on February 12, 1930 to Nick and Kate (Danylchuk) Wiwchar of the Gorlitz region. There, he attended Ukraina School and worked on the family farm. As a young man, Orest moved to Toronto, but soon the call of the land brought him back home. He continued his work on the farm until February 4,1961 when he married Elizabeth Terlesky. They made their home in Yorkton and were blessed with two daughters, Teresa (Teri) and Leona (Leone). Orest worked as a welder/fabricator at Morris Rod Weeder for over 20 years. He loved his family and was overjoyed to welcome his grandchildren, Katelin, Rayanne, and Brayden. Orest was predeceased by his grandson Brayden Ottenbreit and sister Martha Templeton. He leaves to celebrate and cherish his life, his wife Elizabeth, his daughters Teri (fianc�e, Dave Sikler) Wiwchar, and Leone (husband, Greg) Ottenbreit, his granddaughters, Katelin Ottenbreit and Rayanne Ottenbreit (boyfriend Austin Krahenbil), his brothers Gene (Helene) Wiwchar and Peter Wiwchar, his sister Julia Wiwchar along with many friends and relatives. A Memorial Service will be held at the Chapel of Christie�s Funeral Home on Friday, August 14, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. YANKE - Rosene (nee Hemrick), widow of the late Elmer Yanke, of Yorkton and formerly of Ebenezer, passed away at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home on Thursday, June 12, 2008. She was 84 years of age. Rosene was born April 20, 1924 in Portland Oregon U.S.A., the daughter of John and Martha Hemrick. In 1929 the family moved to Phone Hill area and later to Yorkton. As a teenager Rosene worked in the Boston Caf�, which was on Broadway and enjoyed the company of the church youth. In 1942 Rosene was united in marriage to Elmer Yanke and the couple settled in the Ebenezer area. Rosene helped Elmer on their mixed farm of grain and cattle, pigs and chickens. She milked cows, had a large garden and loved flowers. If there was a chance of early frost she�d get up early in the morning to make a smudge for her garden. She was very frugal and always put her own needs last. Rosene and Elmer were members of Ebenezer Baptist Church and Rosene helped with the women�s work, Sunday School and Junior Church. In 1985 Rosene and Elmer semi retired and moved to Yorkton, living on Biggs Crescent. She did some babysitting and attended Heritage Baptist Church. Again she helped with the Women�s Ministry and Children�s Club. Rosene and Elmer went for many drives around the area. She loved her grandchildren very much and prayed for them daily. In 1996 Elmer passed away and Rosene moved into a condominium on Russell Drive. It was a new building and she was the first to move in. She didn�t even have a phone for a few days. Being a new widow she learned to do many things she had never done before and wrote in her journal how God was her strength for each change in her life. She loved to walk and would go to the mall almost every day and also walk downtown. She loved to get together with friends and sing a lot of old familiar songs. She loved to journal, keep poems and write ups of natural health remedies. On September 9, 2003 Rosene became a resident of the Bentley retirement community. She enjoyed it there as they always had many activities going on. Rosene began to show signs of Alzheimers� Disease and in January of 2007 she entered the Nursing Home in Canora and shortly after was transferred to the Yorkton and District Nursing Home where she remained until her passing. Rosene was predeceased by her parents, John and Martha Hemrick; step father, Harold Humphries; her husband, Elmer; three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, a son, Arden (Sharon) Yanke of Yorkton, SK; daughters, Marilyn (Robert Bergen) Yanke of Saskatoon, SK, Ardice (Vance) Bohn of Ebenezer, SK, Janice (Brent) Kirk of Edmonton, AB; ten grandchildren, Quentin (Dana) Yanke of Yorkton, SK, Devin Yanke of Yorkton, SK, Marcilyn (Corey Siwicki) Yanke of Prince Albert, SK, Kiley White of Girvin, SK, Corleen White of Weyburn, SK, Kloraine (Randy) Miko of Lethbridge, AB, Cheryl (Allan) Andringa of Edmonton, AB, Jennifer (Roger) Angove of Auckland, New Zealand, Clayton (Katherine) Kirk of Edmonton, AB, Miranda Kirk of Edmonton, AB.; five great-grandchildren, Harrison Brasock, Tylan and Deegan Siwicki, Morgan and Tanner Andringa, Tayah Yanke; two brothers, Ed (Alvina) Hemrick of Vancouver, BC., and Wilfred (Isabel) Hemrick of Edmonton, AB, as well as many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Rosene�s favorite verses were from Romans 8: 28, 35, & 37. Rosene lived her life trusting in these promises. She is an example to us and we will miss her very much. Thank-you to all who shared in Mom�s life and visited her even when she could no longer recognize them. Funeral services for Rosene Yanke of Yorkton will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 pm from Heritage Baptist Church, Yorkton. Interment to follow in the Yorkton City Cemetery. ZIMMER - Ruby Ideala (nee Smithson). The large extended family of Ruby Zimmer sadly announces her peaceful passing on November 1, 2007, at the age of 87 at Regina General Hospital. Ruby was born on July 31, 1920, in the Yorkton area to parents Richard and Mildred (nee Olm) Smithson. Ruby grew up mostly in and around the Yorkton area, attending several local schools, including Simpson School in Yorkton. She was the oldest of six surviving siblings and was always a caring and protective big sister. As a young woman, she worked as a housekeeper and a caregiver to the children of a number of families, and spoke often and fondly of these families over the years. She also worked as a housekeeper in Yorkton�s old Balmoral Hotel. On October 18, 1944, she married Lawrence Zimmer, and for the next 52 years her life revolved around their farm just outside Ebenezer. The farm was the heart-and-soul of the Zimmer�s life, but it was also an important part of the lives of Ruby�s brothers and sisters and their families. A trip to the Zimmers� was always an adventure, especially for children, with the barn, horses, cows (�make sure you shut the gate!�), pigs, chickens, fresh eggs and milk, and don�t forget the dogs � too many to mention! Ruby�s kitchen and her rocking chair by the woodstove was always the centre of each visit, and no one ever left the farm hungry. The spring, summer, and fall months were full of life, activity and hard work. Ruby worked tirelessly helping Lawrence with the farm and maintaining a huge garden, which she continued to do after she moved into Yorkton. One highlight of the year at the Zimmer farm and of Ruby�s time in Yorkton was the wonderful New Year�s Day supper Ruby hosted for her ever-expanding extended family, and friends were always just as welcome at the annual celebration. Ruby and Lawrence had no children of their own, but Ruby was always a mother or grandmother to all of her nieces and nephews, and later in life, to their children, all of whom appreciated her unconditional wisdom, love, care, and generosity. Ruby was a good neighbour and friend and was always there to lend a helping hand when needed. Ruby was of strong faith and was a very active member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, where, among many other activities, she taught Sunday School for 50 years. She was also a member of Ladies Aid and served as a leader of the White Cross Group of Ladies, who are devoted to providing missionary aid to those in need around the world. She and Lawrence also took part in the Ebenezer Seniors� Club. Ruby was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, in 1996, her parents, Richard and Mildred Smithson, her infant sister, Marguerite, her brothers-in-law, Max Uhl, Mansel Powell, Henry Zimmer, and Arnold Patzer, and one sister-in-law, Gladys Patzer. She is survived by two sisters, Joyce Uhl and Bernice Powell, three brothers, Ken, Jack, and Morley Smithson, and her sister- and brother-in-law, Alice and Louis Dutz. She is also survived by her many beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and even several great-great nieces and nephews. A Service of Comfort for Family and Friends was held on Sunday, November 4, 2007 from the Chapel of Christie�s Funeral Home with Pastor Kendall Buhler officiating. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, November 5, 2007 from Ebenezer Baptist Church with Pastor Kendall Buhler officiating. The pianist, Elaine Patzer, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns. Words of tribute, eulogy and scripture readings were given by Gloria Powell-Smith, Heidi Smithson, Melanie Powell, Kendon Ferris, Brenda Prodonchuk, Janna Powell-Smith and Raechel Gulka. The soloist, Amanda Buhler, sang �One Day At A Time�. Ruby was laid to rest beside her dear husband, Lawrence in the Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery with Braden Ferris, Kaitlyn Gulka, Christy McConnell, Evan Powell, Jeffrey Prodonchuk, Reid Smith, Kaley Smithson and Michael Smithson serving as casket bearers. Invited to serve as the honourary pallbearers were Peggy MacDonald, Joanne and Gordon Obuck, Elaine and Harold Patzer along will all of Ruby�s friends and family. |
