ALLSOPP - Muriel M. passed away peacefully at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital on Sunday, December 31, 2000. Muriel was born July 24, 1914 in Shaunigan Lake, BC and lived for many years on her parents farm near Dilke, Saskatchewan. She went on to become a teacher and taught in country schools until her marriage to Walter in 1939. They lived in various towns in Saskatchewan, among them, Verwood, Liberty, Crane Valley and Nokomis. Muriel has lived in Moose Jaw since 1973 where she enjoyed gardening, playing cards and visiting with friends and family. Muriel was predeceased by her husband, Walter in 1984, and by her sisters, Winnie and Alice and her brothers, Leonard and Harold. She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Harold (Betty) of Calgary, Dale (Anita) of Edmonton, her four grandchildren, Wendy (Stephen), Jeffrey, Tim and Derek and her much loved great-granddaughter, Anna. She is also survived by her two sisters, Daisy and Marjorie as well as her many nieces and nephews and very special long time friends, Mary and Wray Lynch of Moose Jaw. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at 3:30 P.M. at the St. John's Anglican Church, Moose Jaw with Rev. Ian Payne officiating. Interment will follow at the family plot, Rosedale Cemetery, Moose Jaw. Sask. ANDERSON - Clarence. After a prolonged illness, Clarence passed away in Lestock Hospital, age 80. Predeceased by his parents, an infant brother; three sisters and a brother; Clarence is survived by two daughters; five sons; two grandsons and a granddaughter; three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation and interment of ashes in the Dilke Cemetery, Dilke, Sask. ARCHER - Frederick David. On Friday, June 21, 2002, Mr. Fred Archer, age 63, passed away suddenly at his residence in Bethune, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by his parents, Jack and Wilhemina Archer and two sisters, Florence and Grace. Fred is survived by eight sisters and one brother: Hazel (Forbes) Muir, Thelma (Al) Busse, Beth (Irwin) Dunajski, Mary (Fred) Lee, Elsie (John) Mesinchuk, Norma (Dale) Roney, Welda (Ted) Mann, Helen (Bob) Barss and William John Archer and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at Dilke Cemetery with Rev. Walter Gardiner officiating. ARCHER - William John "Dick" Archer. Dick passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2015 at the age of 78 years. He was predeceased by his parents Jack & Willhelmena Archer; siblings Hazel (Forbes) Muir, baby sister Grace, Elizabeth Dunajski "Beth", Mary (Fred) Lee, Florence (Pete) Zabolotney and Fred Archer; brothers-in-law Allen Busse, John Mesenchuk, Dale Roney, Ted Mann and Bob Barss. He is survived by his sisters and brother-in-law Thelma Busse, Irwin Dunajski, Elsie Mesinchuk, Norma Roney, Welda Mann, Helen Barss and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Dilke Town Hall, Dilke, SK. ASHENBRENNER - Leonard. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard at the age of 94 years. Len will be greatly missed by his daughter Yvonne (Donald) Williamson and his son Dareau (Judy); grandchildren Shannon, Lynsi, Scott, Stacy, Karen and Ryan; seven great grandchildren and one brother Frank (Rose). He was predeceased by his wife Mary and many brothers and sisters. Len was born in Odessa, later the family moved to Dilke where they farmed. In 1920 they moved to Regina where Len met the love of his life, Mary. They were married shortly after and were together for 56 years. Len had a trucking company and started the Yellow Cab Company, which he ran for several years. He was the Light-Heavy Weight Wrestling Champion of Saskatchewan from 1936-1939. A MEMORIAL GATHERING for family and friends to celebrate Len's life will be held at Regina Funeral Home in the Arbor Room, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Wednesday July 18, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. BALL - Alphonse Adam (August 10, 1940 - October 31, 2010). Alphonse passed away peacefully at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital with family by his side. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Alvina; daughters Janice (Donald) Fahlman, Cheryl Ball (Brian), JoAnn (Peter) Lamer and Shannon Scott; grandchildren Shawn (Angela) and Scott (Meagan) Fahlman, Shelby and Brae-Anne Oates, and Shantel, Jocelyn and Tyson Scott; and great-grandchildren Kelsey and Madalyn Fahlman. BARRY - Ernest William. After bravely enduring a long illness, Ernie Barry of Edmonton died peacefully on March 15, 2003 at 84 years of age. Small-town Dilke, Saskatchewan hockey player, lumberjack, WW2 soldier, entrepreneur, early-morning swimmer, jokester, fisherman and philosopher, Ernie loved life and laughter and "opened each day as a precious gift". Ernie will live on in the memory of his family; his loving wife of 52 years, Maria, his children, Norma Martin, Janet (John) Thomas and David Berry, granddaughters Angela and Alana Martin and great-granddaughter Kayla. Ernie requested that no service be held. BAST - Gregor (May 30, 1927 � July 30, 2015). Gregor Bast, late of Regina, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, into the arms of our Lord and his wife, on Thursday, July 30, 2015. He was predeceased by his wife Elvira, of 53 years; his parents John and Amelia Bast; his brothers George, Sebastian, Adolf and Johnny; sisters Mary Gelsinger and Whilhelmina Bitz; brothers- in-law Frank Gelsinger, Ben Bitz, Martin Benz, Gottlieb Ehmann and sister-in-law Katherine Bast. Left to cherish Gregor's memory is his eldest daughter Colleen and her family, son Michael (Janelle); great grandson Grayson; son Joel (Audrey); daughter Diana (Justin); great- granddaughter Tenley and daughter Lindsay and Gregor's youngest daughter Brenda (Wayne) and her family; daughter Ashley (Josh) and son Justin (Celina). Gregor is also survived by his sister Theresa Benz (Charlee Horst); sisters-in- law Dorothy Bast and Hilda Bast along with numerous nieces and nephews. Gregor grew up in the surrounding community of Dilke, attended Taft school until he decided to take on farming full time. Gregor met Elvira, the love of his life, at a local dance function. They married on November 7, 1950 on a cold, stormy day. They welcomed their first daughter Colleen, followed by a second daughter Brenda to complete their family. Gregor enjoyed working in the fields, raising cattle and taking care of his farm animals. Gregor and Elvira shared the daily farm duties together. Gregor was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to others. He was a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, attending sporting events, dancing and going fishing. He exhibited great kindness and patience whenever his grandchildren were with him. A Prayer Service will be held at Lee Funeral Home, 3101 Dewdney Ave., Regina on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. and a Celebration of Gregor's Life will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, 1021 McCarthy Blvd N., Regina with a Reception to follow. BAST - Katherine (nee Folk), late of Santa Maria Nursing Home and formerly of Dilke, Sask. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 28, 2000 at the age of 87 years. Predeceased by her husband Sebastian; her parents, Adeline and Anton Folk; brothers Clem, Albert, Leo and Joseph; brothers-in-law John Holzer, John Fahlman, Charlie Wollbaum and sister-in-law Mary Folk. Katherine is survived by her children Leonard, Lorraine (Joe), Eileen (Gordon), Arnold (Marilyn), Loretta Ann (Ken); grandchildren, Peggy (Brian), Natalie (Jason), Michael, Kevin, Kenneth, Matthew, Thomas and Nicholas; great grandchildren Alexander and Sophie. BAST - Mary Theresa (nee Ziegler) April 1, 1920 - March 8, 2014. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Theresa Bast on March 8, 2014 at the age of 93. Upon retirement she moved to Regina and enjoyed bingo, casinos, family and friends. She loved greatly, was loved dearly and will be missed daily. Special thank you to all the staff at Sunset Extendicare, Palliative Home Care and Pasqua Hospital for all their excellent and compassionate care. BATHGATE - Gwendoline "Gwen" (nee Daintree). The family sadly announces Gwen's peaceful death at the University of Alberta Hospital on July 5, 2011 at the age of 98 years. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children Kathleen (Kay) Seidler (Earl) of Edmonton, Alberta; Carolyn (Chuck) Lumsden of Clarkleigh, Manitoba; Brian (Hannah) Bathgate of La Ronge, Saskatchewan; Brenda (Wayne) Portice of Edmonton Alberta; 10 grandchildren,15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband Claire, daughter Janet Marion, parents George and Eliza Daintree, brother Robert Daintree and granddaughter Denise Frick. Gwen was born June 15, 1913 in Kedelston, Sask. The family moved to Dilke in 1921 when her father purchased the Dilke Hotel. After finishing Normal School she taught in various schools in Sask. She met our father in Bridgeford, Sask where she taught. They were married in Winnipeg, Manitoba and lived in Kenora, Ont. until April 1940 when they moved to Dilke. Their children Janet Marion and Brian were born while they were there. They then moved to Belle Plaine, Sask. where Brenda was born. They moved to Regina in 1952 where she resumed her teaching career. She taught for 27 years with the Regina School Board and was principal of Innismore and Queen Elizabeth schools. She retired in 1979 and lived in the Prince Charles Apts following her husband�s death. She began spending her summers in Clarkleigh with her daughter Carolyn. In 2007 she began spending the winters in Edmonton with Kay and Brenda. In 2010 she moved into the Allen Gray Lodge where she enjoyed the company of the residents and especially Poonam, the lodge attendant. While there she enjoyed the Adult Day Support, and the entertainment. The music began and her toe would start tapping. She had a dance a few times while there. She could always be found playing Kings in the Korner with Poonam and the others. She went to the symphony and took a trip to BC with her daughter Kay. We celebrated her 98th birthday in June where she had a dance with her nieces husband Al and gave a wonderful speech about her life. She was past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge in Dilke. She was a member of Knox Metropolitan Church since 1952 and worked on many committees. She looked forward to the letters and phone calls she received from her friends. Her compassion for others extended to the far corners of the world with her children in World Vision. A celebration of her life will be held at Knox Metropolitan Church in Regina on July 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. At her request internment will be held at 11:00 a.m. July 23, 2011 in the family plot in Dilke, Sask. BELCHER - Margaret. B.A., M.A., S.O.M. Margaret Belcher was born at Dilke on December 19, 1920, and died in the VIP Special Care Home in Regina on June 29, 2003. She attended Luther College, then was a scholarship student in Arts at the University of Saskatchewan. She began teaching at Regina College in 1944, took her M.A. at the University of Toronto, taught high school in Rosetown for a year, and returned to teach French at Regina College, now the University of Regina. She was Dean of Women at Regina College, and later acting head of the French department at the University of Regina. Her experience, wisdom and sound advice were greatly valued on many university committees. She undertook postgraduate studies in France and published articles and a book in the field of 18th century literature. As a naturalist and conservationist, Margaret served on the executive of the Saskatchewan Natural History Society for 21 years, including a year as president, was associate editor of the society's quarterly, the Blue Jay, was made a Fellow of the society in 1989, and participated in annual Christmas Bird Counts and Breeding Bird Censuses. She authored two editions of Birds of Regina as well as The Isabel Priestly Legacy: Saskatchewan Natural History Society, 1949-1990. In 1988 Margaret was named Soroptomist International Woman of the Year in Regina. On retirement to the family farm near Dilke that year, the University of Regina named a scholarship in French studies in her honour and she was appointed the only honorary member of the Faculty of Arts. She became involved in preservation of St. Lucy's Church in Dilke, in the local branch of the Canadian Red Cross and in other community activities. She was invested into the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 1997, and received the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2003. Margaret was predeceased by her father, Stanley R. Belcher; her mother, Mary McArton Belcher; and her brother, Boswell Belcher. She leaves behind her sister, Mary Houston and her brother-in-law, Dr. Stuart Houston. She will be greatly missed by her niece, Dr. Margaret Houston, her nephews, Dr. Stan Houston, David Houston, Dr. Don Houston, and Mitchell Blauel, and their families, with whom she had a very close relationship. The funeral will be held at St. Lucy's Anglican Church, Dilke, Saskatchewan at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 4, with interment in the family plot in the Dilke Cemetery. Speers Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. BENNETT - Viola (nee Duesing). The family of Viola Bennett, of Chamberlain, sadly announce her passing. Viola joined her lifelong partner James, on Saturday, April 27th, 2002. Viola was born on the family farm at Dilke, SK on January 10, 1925 to Paul and Dorothy Duesing. In her teens, she met and married Jim Bennett of Chamberlain. The young couple worked several years for Jim's dad and eventually started up their own trucking company. Jim would be out hauling loads and Viola would be at home selling Massey Harris parts and keeping the books. Soon they were blessed with 3 children and added farming to their business plans. They also spent several years in Regina, where Viola worked as the receptionist for Deluxe Beauty Salons. They then returned to Chamberlain to operate Number 11 Confectionary for 3 years, after which Viola and Jim continued to farm and enjoyed a slower pace of life. Viola enjoyed her many friends and grandchildren, who especially helped fill the void after Jim's passing. Viola is predeceased by her parents Paul and Dorothy, her husband James and grandson Ryan. Her incredible strength and courage will be remembered by her sons and daughter Robert (Elaine), James (Brenda) and June (Randy Heise), her grandchildren Sherry (Richard Schropp), Carrie (Michael Kistner), Jeanine Heise (Steven Houle), Mark Heise (Joanne Pheleppou), Tyler and Brittany Bennett, great-grandchildren Tisha and Taylor Kistner, and her brother Lester (Audrey) Duesing, in-laws Cleve (Doris) Bennett, Bill (Hilda) Bennett and Opal Harris, several nephews and nieces, many close and cherished friends. Sharon Davis officiating. Interment in Chamberlain cemetery. BLOOM - Theresa Mary (nee Fuchs). With sadness in our hearts, the family of Theresa "Terri" share the news of her passing on May 2, 2003. Terri was born in Dilke, SK on October 15, 1921. She was predeceased by her husband Fred; two brothers Frank and Alec; and parents Peter and Theresa Fuchs. Theresa served in the Circulation Department of the Regina Leader Post for 25 years. She is survived by her step-daughters (Carol) John Cook of Condie, SK and Hazel George of Airdrie, AB; as well as brothers Anton "Tony" Fuchs of Regina and Joe (Berta) Fuchs of Regina; sisters Rose (Bill) Lipinski of Regina, Isabelle Butler of Regina and Phyllis (Sid) Siddall of Courtenay, BC; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews. Theresa was the proud grandmother of Charles Roe, Chadwick Cook and Holly (nee Cook) Smith; as well as great-grandmother to Keaton, Cooper and Haley Roe; Paige and Zakari Smith; and Sarah Cook. It is with sadness that her family announce the passing of Gertrude Elizabeth Boehme on Monday January 17, 2011. Aunt Gert was born October 11, 1921 in Dilke, Sask. She was the youngest of 5 daughters born to Anna & Fritz Boehme, formerly of Halle Germany. Although small in stature, she was strong in spirit. She spent her formative years during the struggles of the 30's. The influences of her parents and those of her older sisters, all of whom went on to pursue professional careers, resulted in her decision to teach. She taught at Edwards School, Cupar, Cabri and finally William Grayson School in Moose Jaw. Many of her students have contacted her over the years conveying their thanks and appreciation. Gertrude loved to walk. On her daily excursions, she took in the beauty of creation; admiring the seasons with their, ever-changing, flora and fauna. Aunt Gert also cherished her moments of solitude. She was an avid reader and would spend endless hours with a book or listening pensively to one of her many albums of Classical music. Chez Nous has been her home for the last 16 years. Gertrude loved her home and the kind and caring staff she was fortunate enough to know over this time. Gertrude leaves us now to be with her parents, Anna and Fritz, her four sisters, Charlotte (Freeman), Helene (Williams), Hilda (Petruic), and Emma (LaBuik), her nephews, Eric and Eugene and her great nephew, Peter. She is survived by fourteen nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Gert's Life will take place at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Friday January 21, 2011 at 11:00 am. Reverend Doug Shepherd will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. BOEHME - Herman Carl (April 14, 1931 - February 14, 2012). Herman passed away February 14, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Dilke, Saskatchewan, the tenth of eleven children. He was an accomplished carpenter, earning his journeyman's status in 1954. He married Darlene in 1959 and built their first home in Regina. After having two daughters, the family moved to Calgary in 1967. Herman spent his working years in the construction industry and over the years he enjoyed curling, bowling, playing cards, and a day at the ponies. Herman is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-two years, Darlene (nee Popowich); his children: Cheryl (Paul), Carolyn (Rick); four grandchildren: Holly, Kendra, Erica, and Ashley; sisters: Martha, Freda and Ella; brothers: Willie (Evelyn), Alfred (Gloria) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Emma; his sisters: Elsie and Anne, and his brothers: Arthur, Frank, and Carl. BONOGOFSKY - Albina (nee Lipp) Massine Bonogofsky (February 14, 1922 - January 17, 2013). Albina passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the age of 90 years. She is survived by her son Edward (Darlene) Massine, grandchildren Jodi (Larry), Rick, Steffie (Doug), Darla & Janelle (Steve), 9 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, sisters Anne Embury, Janet (George) Hoffart, Rose (John) Hoffart, Margaret (Tony) Bitz, Clara (Ralph) Miller & sister-in-law Gladys Fuchs, extended family Ken & Theresa Marquart, Doug & Dorothy Cocks & their families as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Albina was predeceased by her parents Theodore & Magdalina Lipp, first husband Val Massine, second husband John Bonogofsky, brother Jack Lipp, brother in-law Frank Embury & daughter Lillian Molloy. Albina spent her life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, as well as a great-great-grandmother. Her career years were spent as a telephone operator in Dilke, working as a restaurant manager in both Dilke & Chaplin, as well as 20 years at Kresges, Regina. She spent many hours listening to Daniel O'Donnell's music in her (little pad) retirement home. Albina is in heaven right now dancing the German Polka with her beloved Val. BREESE - Edward Lloyd was born in Dilke, on September 11, 1927 and was promptly nick-named Bud. He departed this world on March 3, 2010 with his family by his side. Mourning his passing and celebrating his life are his wife of 44 years, Carmelle, daughters, Cheryl (Doug Starnes), Myrna (Cody Lew), Brenda (Brent Forrest), Sue (Eric Exner) and eight grandchildren. He is survived by brothers Don (Edna) and Gerry; sisters-inlaw Rita Breese, Lenore Johnson, Maxine (Larry Nicholson), Mary and Maxine Dureault, as well as aunts, uncles and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed obtained his Bachelor of Education at the University of Saskatchewan and completed his Masters Degree at Colorado State University. His career began as a teacher, and subsequently Vice Principal, in Carrot River. Numerous government positions followed including: Director of Training, Emergency Measures; Director, Personnel and Training, Dept of Natural Resources; and Chief, Trade and Occupational Training, Dept of Education where he developed training centres as a precursor to the present Community Colleges. He concluded his professional career in 1987 as Director of Professional Training and Staff Development, Dept of Health. He was a civil servant for 38 years and 287 days. Ed's life's work led him to many adventures including a CIDA program in Ghana, West Africa, where he acted as Principal, Accra Technical Training Centre eventually handing the Centre over to the Ghanaian Government. In La Ronge, he acted as Director of Colleges Branch, Dept. of Northern Sask and brought training opportunities to the north. Ed was actively involved in St. Martin's Parish Council, he was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus and a founding member of the Wascana Investment Club. Summers at the Katepwa Lake cottage were one of his greatest joys. He was instrumental in the formation of the Resort Village of Katepwa South and subsequent Mayor for 16 years. As Mayor he worked tirelessly for the amalgamation and creation of the District of Katepwa. He was deeply loved and will be remembered fondly for his family commitment, generous heart, devotion to education, and passion for wildlife. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Martin R.C. On January 28, 2003, Amelia Felicia Brhelle passed away peacefully at the age of 85 years. Predeceased by her parents, Albert Selinger and Mary Eve (Schmidt) Selinger; brothers: Anton (Fred), Philip, Gustave & John; sisters: Agatha (Genevieve) Todd; Mary Brucker; and her loving husband of 58 years, Leo. Amelia is survived by her sisters: Otillia Hill; Katharina (Ross) Richards; Louine (Henry) Marchand and Marjorie Wright. Leo and Amelia's daughters are Leona (Fred - deceased) Nabe of Medicine Hat, AB; June Brhelle of Langley, BC; Donna (Mike) Fischer of Lumsden; Kathy (Wolf Gaedtke) Deck of Edmonton, AB; Patty (Dennis) Frank of London, ON; sons Terry (Lois) of Abbotsford, BC; Jerry (Millie) of London, ON; Len (Wendy) of Regina; 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Amelia was born on February 17, 1917 in Dilke, SK. At an early age, Mom moved to Regina and found employment with Yaeger's Furs. In 1937, she met Leo and on December 26, 1940 they were wed. Mom was an excellent homemaker and took a great deal of pride in caring for her home and in raising her children. Mom, also known as Auntie Meno, performed wonders in her tiny kitchen. There were ten mouths to feed and no one ever left her table hungry. Grandma will be fondly remembered for her Jam-Jam cookies, cabbage rolls, plum dumplings, and noodles. Mom also had a passion for knitting and her slippers kept the oldest and youngest toes warm. Mom was a long-time member of the Catholic Women's League and Little Flower Church. Both Mom and Dad were proud members of that faith community. A year after Dad's passing, Mom decided to move from Lumsden to Langley, BC to live with her daughter June. Family members there will hold a small memorial service for her. While living in Lumsden, Mom and Dad enjoyed their connection with St. Michaels' Retreat and Mom, her retreat days. As a result, the family has decided to hold the local memorial service at St. Michael's on Sunday, March 2, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. BRYDEN - Ceres (nee Gustafson) July 13, 1918 - April 3, 2011. Ceres passed into eternal life peacefully on Sunday, April 3, 2011. Born to Anna and Gunnar Gustafson in Dilke, she had one brother, Gunnar and one sister, Ose. While quite young, the family moved to Regina Beach, where she grew up. Ceres married James Alexander Bryden in 1939, and they lived on the Bryden family farm near Bethune for a short time before moving to Regina Beach. She always provided terrific support to her husband in his trucking business and later with painting cottages and houses that Alex built, although her main priority was devoted homemaker. She was always content with her life and willing to make sacrifices to help her family. Predeceased by a grandson, David in infancy and her husband in 1992, Ceres is survived by four children and their families, son Dale (Darlene), grandson Dan (Claudia) and great-grandchildren David and Olivia, granddaughter Deborah and great-grandchildren Kaelen and MacKenzie; son Gary (Kathy), grandson Russ (Kelly) and greatgrandchildren Kyle and Ryan, grandson Randy (Jackie) and great-grandchildren Josh, Rylie and Jayda, and granddaughter Renelle (Greg) and great-grandchildren Davis and Colby; daughter Deanna (Ross) and grandson Brad (Eve) and greatgrandchildren Will, Angus and Ewen and grandson Rob (Tess) and greatgrandchildren Lara and Dylan and grandson Neil; and daughter Jeanette and grandchildren Mark (Ashley) and Cheryl. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Ceres always had a large vegetable garden each summer. She also enjoyed picking saskatoons, sewing, knitting, crocheting and was especially gifted at baking. Cinnamon buns and pies were her specialties. She enjoyed watching all four of her children curl, and was always a willing and loving babysitter for her grandchildren. Ceres had ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. In more recent years, she enjoyed her flower gardens and watching for hummingbirds each summer. She loved living at Regina Beach, but moved to Regina in 2009 because of declining health to live with her daughter and afterwards in Parkside Extendicare. The family would like to thank those Parkside caregivers who were so caring and supportive to Mom with special recognition and gratitude to Marlene and Candace. At her request, there will be no funeral, but a private interment will be held at a later date. Because of her faith and values, we are confident that Mom is now feeling joy, love and peace. BYRNE - Sr. Anastasia, formerly Sr. Rose Theresa, a Sister of St. Martha of Antigonish, died at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, on Monday, April 14, 2008 at the age of 96, in the 69th year of her religious life. Born in Dilke, Sask., she was the daughter of the late Patrick Thomas and Anna Theresa (Peterson) Byrne. Sr. Anastasia entered the congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha on Feb. 3, 1938, pronounced her first vows on Aug. 24, 1939, and her final profession of vows on Aug. 14, 1944. Her ministry and service were in various areas of homemaking, in office and catechetical works, as well as in parish visiting and pastoral care. She received diplomas in office skills and in pastoral and hospital visiting. In Nova Scotia, Sr. Anastasia lived and served at St. Charles Convent, Dominion; Catholic Charities, Sydney, Little Flower Institute, Bras d�Or; in Antigonish at Bethany, Bishop�s residence, R.K. MacDonald Guest House and St. Martha�s Hospital. In Western Canada she served in Alberta at St. Alphonsus Convent, Blairmore and Holy Spirit Parish in Calgary; in Regina, Sask., at Martha House and in North Kamloops, B.C., at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Convent. Sr. Anastasia was the youngest of five children and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by a brother, Ernest and three sisters, Ruth Gemmall, Jean Foley and Ester Marie. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. The remains will be resting at Bethany beginning Thursday afternoon, April 17, 2008, at 1:15 p.m. where a celebration of vigil will be held on that same evening at 7:30 p.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, April 18, at 2 p.m. in Bethany Chapel. In 1945, he married his best friend Rose Marie Bast and they continued on with the Church family farm until he retired in 1975. Glenn loved participating in a variety of sports from baseball and hockey to curling and golf during his retirement years. Being a farmer Glenn was a lover of animals, especially his horses and cats. Throughout the years, Glenn was involved in many organizations and committees: 4H Beef Club, Dilke Athletic, Dilke Hall Board, Dilke United Church Board, Dilke Co-op and the Dilke and Highland Curling Club. In 1966, they moved to Regina where he was not only a member of the Highland Curling Club, but worked as an Icemaker from 1969 to 1981. In 1981, Glenn and Rose moved to Alice Beach, not far from their home town of Dilke where he was the first mayor and enjoyed carpentry, fishing and a game of pool with whom ever stopped by. In 2004 Glenn and Rose moved back to Regina. Glenn was a very patient, loving and kind man and a good friend to all who knew him. His greatest joy was having his family and friends around for special occasions or just to sit on the deck, at their home, to enjoy a glass of iced tea and bowl of fresh picked raspberries from the garden. Her training at Success Business College in Regina was a great asset to her, wherever she took up residence. She married Harold Davidson of Regina in 1938 and they lived in Regina, Moose Jaw, Vernon and Vancouver. Margaret was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Isabel Gardiner and Laura Joorisity; a brother, Stuart Laing and an infant brother James. Her husband, Harold also predeceased her, in 1998. She is survived by her son, Harvey of Salmon Arm, B.C. and her daughter, Shirley Heaton of Burnaby, B.C. She will be missed by her grandchildren; Tracey (Brian) McDougall of Victoria, Craig Davidson, Kathy Heaton, Dennis Heaton and Amy Heaton all of Vancouver. On Friday, January 7, 2011 with family at his side, Lester Albert Duesing passed away peacefully at the age of 91 years. Lester was born on the family farm on July 21, 1919. He was predeceased by his sister Viola (Jim) Bennett; parents Paul and Dorothy; son Albert and grandson Paul. Lester is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Audrey; daughter Paula (Wayne) Kingston; grandchildren Kathryn (Julian), Deborah, Wendy (Alan), Ryan (Candace), Jason (Reila), Scott (Rihanna); twelve great grandchildren Jessica, Nolan, Jordan, Paul, Alexandra, Juleah, Kaitlyn, Hunter, Sydney, AJ, Anayea and Henry. Lester grew up on the family farm and went to school in Dilke. He farmed with his dad until the war broke out. Lester served his country overseas and returned to farming in 1945. While overseas he would use his leaves to help out at home. On January 27, 1948 Lester married the love of his life, Audrey MacKay and brought this city girl to the farm. In 1948 their first child Paula was born. Their second child, Albert followed in 1951. In 1961, Dad learned to fly. He shared his love of flying with his family and friends as often as he could. He also ran a crop spraying business for many years in the local district. He loved to fish and travel, spending many winters in the USA. Lester and Audrey moved to Regina permanently in 1972. He would still drive out to the farm every day to work the land and, of course, fly his airplane. The last few years Lester resided at Sunset Extendicare. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunset Extendicare for all the care and support Lester received. On Thursday, August 17, 2006, Daisy Hilda Earl passed away at the Weyburn Special Care Home at the age of 98 years. Daisy was predeceased by her husband, Douglas H. Earl in August of 1981; by her parents, Harold and Minnie Buck; two brothers, Leonard and Harold Buck; and three sisters: Winnifred, Alice and Muriel. Left to cherish her memory are her family: three sons: Raymond Earl of Osage, Marvin (Fern) Earl of Calgary, AB, and James (Brenda) Earl of Weyburn; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Earl; sisters-in-law: Hazel Glover, Marjorie Shirley and Margaret Buck; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Daisy Hilda Earl was born October 7, 1907 at Redjacket, the second daughter of Harold and Minnie Buck. The family moved to farm in the Dilke area in1910, then to Shaunigan Lake, BC in 1912, moving back to farm near Dilke in 1915. Schooling started while in BC then at Dilke, with high school being completed at Craik. Daisy then attended Normal School in Regina in 1925. The first year of her teaching career was at Goldrich School, north of Bethune in 1926. The following year she taught at Neal School in the north Osage District, and stayed teaching at Neal until her marriage to a young local farmer, Douglas H. Earl, on February 21st, 1934. Now being a wife, homemaker and in December, a mother, she stayed home to raise her family, becoming involved in the community and the school once the boys were attending. They lived on two different rental properties in the area, purchasing their own farm in 1945 where they raised their family before building their own home in Osage in 1963. Daisy lived there until February of 2003, when she moved to the Weyburn Special Care Home in March, and remained there until her time of passing. Daisy loved to knit, crochet, tat and visit. She had a large vegetable and flower garden and enjoyed being a homemaker. There were always crossword puzzle books available and she enjoyed reading the newspapers and keeping articles of special events or announcements. Her family and friends looked forward to receiving the many letters she would send them. Daisy regularly attended the Osage United Church and was a member of the Ladies Aid and the United Church Women of Osage. Family was very important to Daisy, and they never remember an angry word ever spoken. She remained calm and greeted everyone with a smile. She was never one to complain and kept her independence right up until the end. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by all she knew and loved. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. EARL - Marjorie Ethel (nee Buck), late of Weyburn passed away Saturday, September 3, 2011, at the age of 92 years. Marjorie is survived by her daughters: Dolores (Earl) Dupuis, Bethune, and their family, Debbie (Rick) Hammel, Les (Norma) Dupuis, Patti Dupuis; Dianne (Ron) Sander, Weyburn; and their daughter, Joanne (Tim) Smith; her great grandchildren: Dominique, Jonah, Likeisha, Jeremy, Alex, Ryden, Jarrin, Keianna; sisters-in-law: Margaret Buck, Marjorie Shirley along with numerous nieces and nephews. Marjorie was born on June 25, 1919 in Dilke, SK. On April 16, 1941, Marjorie married Clarence Earl. Together they farmed at Osage until 1981, when Clarence�s poor health led to their moving to Weyburn. Marjorie enjoyed gardening and had a huge vegetable garden along with flower gardens. Knitting sweaters was one of Marjorie�s favorite past-times and she enjoyed giving the sweaters to visitors, especially children. Marjorie�s other hobbies included crocheting and liquid embroidery. The coffee pot was always on as she enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She was an organist at the Osage United Church for many years and a member of the Osage United Church Women. Marjorie enjoyed baking and was noted in the family for her buns, cinnamon buns, cherry cheesecake, and Easter Bunny cakes. She took great pride in her entries at the Creelman fair for many years. Marjorie loved holiday celebrations especially with her family. A private family graveside service for Marjorie will be held at a later date by her request. Interment to follow at Osage Cemetery, Osage. EBERTS - Steven Joseph passed away peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2006 in Regina at the age of 84, with family by his side. Steve was predeceased by his parents Edward and Rosa, brothers Tony and Pius: sisters Ida, Annemarie and Katherine; sons-in-law Keith Korney and Kurt Stach and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy; sons Richard (Glenny) and Robert; daughters Eileen Eberts, Arlene Stach, Louise (Daryle Ramnes), and Margaret (Lavern Chypiska). Steve is also survived by his grand-children Ed (Sunni), Mark (Lorrie), Paul, Tammy (Ian Arnold), Erin, Robin, Shannon (Josh Kern) Janelle, Michael, Alana, Curtis, Kristopher, Avery, Reid and Benjamin. Left to remember their great grandpa are Madisson, Paige, Steven, Chase, Devyn, Ashton, Jordyn, Braiden, Jenna and Jacee, Also left to mourn are Steve's brother John; sisters Anne (Joe Wingert), Regina (Bill Matlock), Lizzie Geis, Rosemarie Hubick , and Emilia (Al Frohlick). Steve will also be lovingly remembered by many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Steve was born at Qu'Appelle on March 1st, 1922. He served in the Second World War and saw duty in England, Italy, Sicily and Holland with the Princess Patricia Regiment. After returning from the war Steve married Dorothy Ackerman of Holdfast and farmed in the Lumsden area until his retirement. Steve was a member of the Lumsden Legion and a Life Member of the Lumsden and District Lions Club. Steve's favourite activity was going to his Wee Too Beach cottage, gardening and fishing. Steve loved his family. He loved to tease his grand-children and great grand-children. According to one grand-child, Grandpa was the youngest old guy that I know. EISWORTH - Rose (nee Thauberger), formerly of Dilke, SK. It is with deepest sadnessthat Rose's family announce her passing on Friday, February 1, 2002 at the age of 89 years. ELL - Charles James Ell passed away peacefully at the home of his son, Marc Ell, surrounded by loved ones and music on March 1, 2012 at the age of 94. Charlie was born May 15, 1917 on the family farm at Dilke, SK. to Harry and Philipena (Schmidt) Ell. He was the third child in a family of nine children. Charles is predeceased by his wife, Bernadette (Wolff); his father and mother Henry and Philipena Ell of Dilke, SK; his daughter, Rita Ell, two grandsons, Taylor and Michael Barter; brothers Alphonse, Albert, John and Joe Ell and sisters Barbara Embry, Emelia Ell and Anne McLean. Charlie is survived by his brother, Fred (Julia) Ell of Regina, SK.; his three daughters, Sharon (Peter)Birek of Toronto, ON; Joan (Peter) Hall of Calgary, AB; Judy (Jim) Brenneman of Langley, BC; his son, Marc (Donna) Ell of Regina, SK; and four grandchildren, Ashley (Robert) Rice, Lindsay Aitken, Johnathan and Andrea Ell. He will be dearly missed by Mary June (Al) Alto, Michael (Debbie) McKinney, Lance (Gail) McKinney, Dan McKinney and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many wonderful and caring friends and neighbours whose contribution to his care and quality of life were invaluable to him in his final years. Typical of his era, Charlie left school after grade 8 to help on the family farm but this limited education did not stop him from helping his children with high school physics, chemistry or math. He simply read the school textbooks and provided the answers. There was nothing he could not build from rock pickers to a state-oftheart kitchen to a pool table that all friends and family enjoyed. He was always available to his neighbors and his community to assist with numerous volunteer projects such as raising money for the church, community or school. Charlie enlisted in the Armed Forces in WW II and spent four years in England. By a stroke of good fortune, while jamming with his army buddies, his CEO was so impressed with his musical talents that he was removed from active military missions to an office job so that he could play in the Armed Forces Dance Band. His CEO felt that this was a better use of his talents even though he was a great shot with the rifle. Charlie married the love of his life Bernadette on October 25, 1946 and the happy couple took over the Fred Wolff farm at Liberty, SK. in 1948. Charlie enjoyed many happy years as an active farmer and continued to be a valuable farm consultant to his son, Marc, until his dying day. A farmer by trade, Charlie was a musician at heart and his music could be heard all over the surrounding communities of Liberty, SK. As the longest member to play in the Liberty Orchestra Charlie could play many instruments from saxophone to clarinet to bass guitar. He loved jamming with his friends and cherished playing with his grandchildren, Johnathan and Andrea Ell. He was a voracious reader who lived a thoughtful and examined life and enjoyed a quiet environment and his independence to the end. Charlie's celebration of life services will be held at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Imperial, SK. The prayer service will be held on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 7:30 PM and the funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 2:00 PM. Lunch will be prepared by the Imperial Altar Society immediately following the funeral service. A private family internment in Wolffton Cemetery will follow the lunch. Dad and Mom were married November 18, 1947 and farmed in the Dilke area until moving to Regina in 1960. Dad was a wonderful husband and father. Dad always said he wished he could give Mom more and Mom always said that she wanted for nothing. While farming, Dad was also a school bus/bombardier driver making many emergency runs in the dead of winter when roads were impassable. He was a telephone repair line- man in the early days of party lines and operated his own wind-driven 32 volt power plant in the basement of the farm home. Dad was a self-taught man in many areas of electronics. It seemed there was nothing he could not repair and his wood-working skills are displayed in our homes. Dad worked for the Regina Public School Board for many years as head of the Maintenance Staff at Scott Collegiate and then moving to the Board Office to work in Instrument Repair, installing and maintaining time clocks and alarm systems until his retirement. In "retirement" he enjoyed honing his woodworking skills building many pieces of fine furniture, gardening and landscaping in the yard and spending time on his computer e-mailing and Skyping with friends and relatives. Dad was a brilliant man, a man of strong faith, a man ahead of his time and we are so privileged to have been his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dad always enjoyed a good joke or prank, so we know heaven has become a happier place. Mom passed away so recently and we are comforted to know they are together once again. Church, 315 Douglas Ave. E. Interment to follow at Dilke Cemetery. ELL - Joseph Edward Ell, late of Shellbrook, passed away in Shellbrook Hospital on Thursday, April 29, 2004 at the age of 85 years. Joseph was born on March 6, 1919 at the farm at Dilke, SK. to Harry and Philipena Ell. Joe completed his schooling in Dilke and then went to teacher training in Regina. His first school was in the Senate Govenlock area in 1940. When war was declared Joe enlisted in the Air Force and was sent overseas as a bombardier. He completed the required missions over enemy territory and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross 10FC presented to him by King George VI at Buckingham Palace. After his discharge in Canada in 1946 he enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan where he obtained his Bachelor of Education degree. From there he moved to Buchanan to teach and met Velma McHarg who was teaching there also. They were married at Melfort in 1951. As a young married couple they moved to Aylsham where Joe was hired as principal of the school and where they stayed for seven years. Thinking they needed to experience city life they moved to Lloydminster for a brief time. Missing small town living they chose to move to Shellbrook which they grew to love. Joe retired in 1979 after completing over 35 years of teaching. After his retirement he spent many hours growing flowers and beautifying the yard which was admired and enjoyed by many. After a fall and injury to his shoulder he never did regain his physical strength and spent most of his remaining years in a private care home. Joe was an intellect and a born teacher loved and admired by the students who passed through his hands during his teaching career. Joe loved music and played his accordion well enough to entertain at dances and Senior's gatherings in Shellbrook and area. He loved jamming with his brothers and other family members. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. FIRTH - Robert "Bob" of Regina, born at Dilke, Sask., passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at the age of 82. Predeceased by his son, Ronald James; parents, William and Christina (nee Gowanlock) Firth; two sisters, Maydie and Eva; two brothers, Gillis and Kenneth. Bob is survived by his wife, Irene; son, Ken (Elda) of Salmon Arm, BC; granddaughter, Cary (Terry) Burant and children, Alyssa and Callie and grandson, Michael. Bob was a veteran of World War II and a proud member of the 1st Canadian Armoured Carrier Regiment known among infantry regiments as the Kangaroos. Starting out in sales, Bob later became foreman of a work crew for the Department of Highways who were responsible for erecting signs in southern Saskatchewan. In his retirement, Bob was a volunteer for the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Early Childhood Intervention Program. There will be no funeral at Bob's request. After WWII Gene returned to the prairies with his wife Lillian to raise a family, and farm in the Dummer, SK area. He was the kind of father who never used a foul word, who would drive through snow storms to pick up his kids, who knew the value of chocolate and ice cream and who always lit up when any of his kids walked into a room. After becoming a widower, he married Darlene Edmunds of Tisdale, SK and they travelled frequently between the farm and their home in Tisdale. He had lots of friends and loved to get together for coffee and a game of cards. He loved to drive his tractor and looked forward to farming each spring. He was a loving, generous, devoted family man who will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank all the medical staff who cared for Gene, especially the Renal Unit at the Regina General Hospital. It is with great sadness that the Gessell family announces the passing of Art on Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Art was the oldest of twelve children born to Emil and Caroline Gessell (nee Hein). He was born in Dilke, SK on April 12, 1926. He was predeceased by one brother, Bill; and two sisters, Freida and Patricia. Art is survived by four brothers, Fred, Clarence, John, Allan; and four sisters, Clara, Irene, Elizabeth and Mary and numerous nieces and nephews. Art is lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Anne (Boychuk); two sons, Clayton and David Gessell; three daughters, Sharon (Terry) Oxman; Esther (Roy) Papish; Naomi Lefebvre; grandchildren, David (Kristine) Oxman; Susan Oxman; Jennifer Papish; Christopher Papish and Daniel Lefebvre; great grand-children, Trevor and Kaylie Oxman. Art was employed as a bus driver by the Saskatchewan Transportation Company for 35 years logging over two million miles. Art was self taught and recognized as a master of many trades. He was an excellent wood worker and fine craftsman, who created many pieces of fine furniture and cabinetry. Art especially enjoyed auto mechanics and spent many happy hours pursuing his hobbies. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to family members. His favourite past-times were family camping, fishing, and boating. Fred's career spanned over 45 working years in the trucking industry, retiring in 1995. Fred worked tirelessly to provide for his family and was recognized with many safety awards over the years, with his highest achievement driving two million miles accident free. Dolores had 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, which added joy to her life. She babysat, watched the kids' activities, and enjoyed family get togethers. She had pride in her family, their accomplishments and cherished the times she spent with them. Dolores was always there to help in any way. The family lived in Kedleston, Renown, Wynyard, Dilke, Foam Lake, Moose Jaw, Winnipeg, Edmonton and finally settling in Saskatoon. Mom and Dad always had a colorful garden of vegetables and flowers. Mom was the Postmistress in Dilke for 12 years and she worked for Sears in Winnipeg and Edmonton. She was very active in the United Church and was a Sunday school teacher. She loved acting in plays, was an avid curler, loved to dance and was very involved with the Ronald McDonald House. Mom loved the years she lived at Luther Heights and was very active with the Luther Heights Senior Centre. Her final home was at Oliver Lodge, Sunshine Court, where the staff was loving, caring and very compassionate. After 27 years apart, we know Mom and Dad are dancing on the clouds, together again. Fred was born in December of 1924 and spent his entire life except for the last two years on the family farm near Kedleston. He met and married Barbara Camp in 1956. Together they raised four children and managed a growing farm operation. They also traveled back to England several times, Australia and points throughout Canada and the US. He was very active in the community serving over 40 years on the Bethune Co-op board; 28 years crop reporting for Sask Ag and Food; actively involved with the Red Cross; and was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for over 55 years, serving as Grand Master and Grand Patriarch for Saskatchewan. Fred lent his many talents to several other community organizations at Kedleston, Bethune and Regina. Farming was in his blood and he reluctantly moved to Regina only when his vision made it impossible to continue on the farm. He still loved to go out to help and spent 5 days this fall during harvest on the farm. The family of Evelyn May Hendry is sad to announce her passing at the age of 90 years. Mom was born in 1920 in the Dilke Nursing Home and attended Wilkie Bay School. At 16 years of age, and during the Dirty Thirties, she left home to work and to help out her family at home. She met Earl while he was playing for a dance at Bethune and they married in 1942. They had 12 children, all of who survive her: Clinton (Maxine), Dawn (Richard) Selinger, Garth (Regina), Brette (Charlene), Twyla (Rick) McArthur, Maylyn (Vern) Bast, Garnet (Jeanette), Colleen Shannon, Delee (Ken) Chesko, Perry (Lynn), Janine (Shane) Osberg, Carman (Nicole). May also leaves to mourn her, sisters Daisy Schultz and Joyce Rapchuk, sisters-in-law Pat Naldrett and Olive Hunter and brothers-in-law Jim Noble and Robert Payne, 33 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and numerous extended family members. Mom taught her family by example, sharing her deep convictions and her wonderful musical talents. She enjoyed each and every child, and celebrated each child's successes, mourned their losses and encouraged development of their talents. Mom had a keen interest in the genealogy of both her family as well as Earl's and was a great resource as she connected the dots for interested children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren as she told stories from her past. She was the glue that held the many generations of our family together. Mom was a passionate gardener whose greatest joy in the spring and summer was to work in her vegetable garden and raspberry patch at Alice Beach and to preserve the fruits of her labour each fall, sharing with friends, neighbours and family members. Her greatest love was God's creatures as evidenced by her many bird feeders all around her yard at the lake, where they entertained her with their antics as she watched from her deck. Mom touched the lives of everyone she knew, and made many friendships along life's journey, maintaining those friendships to the present day. Mom's many friends will tell you she was the most nurturing, helpful, loyal and loving person. After Mom's 90th birthday, she developed pneumonia, which was the beginning of her declining health. She was able to meet again with all of her family at a family reunion held this last summer, and took part in all the planned festivities there. Looking back over Mom's life, we realize it was remarkably rich and full, but she has left a void in our family that will be very difficult to fill. We love you Mom. After moving to Regina, Gordon had a long career in Social Services with both the City of Regina and the Province of Saskatchewan. Gordon served as the President of the Saskatchewan Conference Young People's Union and was an active member of both Knox Metropolitan and Carmichael United Church. He also received a lifetime achievement award from the Saskatchewan Division of the Canadian Cancer Society. Gordon and Mabel enjoyed many pleasures in life including dancing, card playing, traveling and the many friendships they developed through church and the United Commercial Travelers of America. JENNINGS - Genevieve (nee Evans) died peacefully at the Regina General Hospital on November 12, 2014 at the age of 99 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry in 1995, brother, Pryse Evans and her sister, Mary Rowe. She is survived by her loving sons, Jim and Bill (Loretta), both of Regina. Genevieve was born in 1915 on the family homestead located southwest of Dilke. Prior to her marriage, she taught school in various one room schoolhouses in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Genevieve thrived at being a homemaker and took great pride in raising her two boys. She was a very caring, kind and generous person who enjoyed to laugh. People often commented on her beautiful smile. She spent many enjoyable hours tending to her house plants, flower beds and garden. Genevieve was happiest when in the presence of her family. She will be dearly missed. In honouring her wishes, a Private Graveside Service will be held. The family thanks all of the staff on Unit 5E at the Regina General Hospital for the compassionate care provided to our Mom. JONES - Deborah May (nee Skinner). On Tuesday, August 12, 2008 Deborah May Jones of Dilke, SK, sadly lost her battle to cancer at the age of 56 years. Predeceased by her father, Russell Skinner, Deborah is survived by her loving husband, Dave; her son, Dylan (Andrea) Jones and their children, Nicholas and Cohen; her daughter, Dayna (Brice) Reynoldson and their children Rileigh and Gracie; her mother, Betty Skinner; two sisters, Linda (Dave) Sabo, Wendy Skinner (Dwayne); one brother, David (Wendy) Skinner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. On Wednesday, April 11, 2001, Mary Margaret Jones, late of Regina, passed away at the age of 86 years. Predeceased by her parents Lewis and Anne; three brothers: Gwilym, Reece (Jean) and Ivor (Lois), Mary is survived by her sister-in-law Kitty Jones of Regina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was born in the Dilke area and went to Edwards School. Later she moved to Regina with her mother Anne, whom she cared for until her mother's passing. Jack Oglesby officiating. Interment in Dilke Cemetery. KENNEDY - Aina Laurina, widow of Orville Kennedy, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2002 at Parkside Extendicare. Laurina was born on January 21, 1920 to Nils and Kristina Erickson on the family farm near Percival, Sask. The outbreak of World War II saw our mother move to British Columbia and take a job in the Boeing Air Craft Plant. After the war, mom moved back to Regina where she met and married Orville who had just returned from active service overseas. For the next few years, the family moved to Kerrobert, Stewart Valley and Loreburn, and made many friends at all of these wonderful locations. After retirement, Orville and Laurina moved from their home in Regina to their cottage at Lipp's Beach near Dilke, Sask. Their cottage was their great love and the friendships made during the 40 years at Lipp's Beach have endured over three generations. For health reasons, it was necessary for Orville and Laurina to move back to Regina and become normal "weekenders" at the cottage. Our mother was predeceased by dad on January 11, 1996. She was also predeceased by five brothers and two sisters. Left to mourn Laurina's loss and cherish her memory are Hugh (Annette) and their children Sarah and Ira; Shirley (Larry) Ryll and their daughters Lisa and Lana; Blair (Anne) and Craig; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. KOCH - Gustav Andrew (November 24, 1919 � February 22, 2016). Gus died peacefully surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Heather; parents Joseph and Margaret Koch of Dilke, SK; siblings Rose (Frank) Schmidt, Othelia "Tiny" (Ted) Lumley, Tom (Opal) and Frank (Ada) and grandson Ian Stewart. Gustav is survived by his daughters Jennifer (Russ) King and Winifride (Luke) Parisone; sons Ian and Malcolm (Yanelys); grandchildren Colin Stewart, Lauren (Duane) Numrich, Jason (Tracey) Koch, Teresa Parisone, Cathy (Bryan) Parisone- Rombough, Miguel and Liliet; great- grandchildren Liam, Aidan, Aniella, Dominic, Gia, Samantha (Devan), Brandon (Sam) and Ashley; great-great-grandchildren Kaylum and Sophie. He was raised near to and then in the town of Dilke, SK. The family spent their summers at Pasqua Lake where they had a large circle of friends. He was in the RCAF Bomber Command in World War II. He was a genius with engines, and it was said that he "kept those planes in the air". He was so well liked and respected that when the RCAF bomber pilots held their reunions he was specially invited. Gustav met and married his wife Heather in England during the war. After the war they settled and raised their family in Regina. They were both active members of Sacred Heart Parish. Gustav worked at Department of Highways, Western Tractor, Redhead Equipment and then back again to the Department of Highways. When Heather had to be moved to Pioneer Village, Gus sold the house on Dewdney Avenue and moved to a condo in Regina Village. He was very active there socially and made many good friends in the ten plus years he lived there. His last two years were spent at Star Treatment Care Home where he was very happy, loved and well taken care of. Thank you Starla, Lance and the rest of the Star Treatment "family". We are so proud to be able to say that through all of his long life, Dad was liked and respected and made many dear friends. He loved his family and the lessons he taught us about generosity and forgiveness we will always carry in our hearts. We know all of his family and many friends would agree that the one thing everyone would remember best about Dad is his smile! KOCH - Heather Rowan (nee Stitt) passed away peacefully on Friday, October 5, 2007. She was 93. Heather was the beloved wife of Gustav, and adored Mum of Jennifer (Russ) King, Winifride (Luke) Parisone, Ian and Malcolm. She was the cherished Grandma of Jen's children Ian Stewart, Colin (Crystal) Stewart, and Lauren (Duane) Numrich, and of Win and Luke's daughters Teresa Parisone and Cathy (Bryan) Rombough, and of Ian's son Jason Koch. Heather also had three great-grandchildren: Samantha and Brandon Stewart, and Liam Numrich. Heather's family was her joy, and family gatherings her greatest delight. Heather was born in Coxhoe, County Durham, England to Joseph and Maggie Stitt. She had two sisters, Sheila and Jean, who predeceased her. Heather met Gus in England during the war, and they married in Leeds in 1945. She courageously left family and friends to start a new life with Gus in Saskatchewan. And what a wonderful life she made here! Everywhere she went, she made friends and those friends were precious to her. Equally treasured were the family and friends her beloved Gus brought into her life. Because the cornerstone of her life was her Christian Faith, many of Heather's friends were made through her volunteer work at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church (Regina) in the C.W.L and the choir, in bible study classes and other activities. One of the first organizations she joined was her "Do Nothing Club, " which was a small group of good friends who met just to laugh and enjoy each other's company. She also thoroughly enjoyed her work, and the friends she made, in Regina Council of Women, the Opera Guild, the Regina Symphony Orchestra Association, and the Regina Council of Churches. Besides her special people, Heather also had a few special places that she loved. The cottage on Pasqua Lake was perhaps her favourite, although Lake Louise was also dear to her (not least because that meant visiting with Malcolm!). She and Gus loved traveling, and they made many trips to England (more family visits and countless cups of tea) and even to Europe. When the time came to leave for her final and most wonderful journey, Heather was blessed to be able to slip away peacefully in her own bed, at "home " on Main West in Pioneer Village surrounded and cared for by the wonderful people whom she loved, and who loved her in return. Heather's family can't thank them enough for their unfailing kindness, warmth and affection. They made her home there a happy one. For Heather, the one sadness about living to her nineties was that so many of her beloved family and friends had predeceased her. And now, her family and friends who love her so much will be missing her. We will miss her cheerfulness, her twinkle and her sense of fun. And oh, how we will miss her wonderful smile! LAING - Alice Mary Laing, formerly of Regina and late of Bengough Health Centre, passed away on Saturday, February 21st, 2004 at the age of 89 years. Alice was born on the farm at Dilke, Saskatchewan on March 28, 1914 to her parents, James and Mary Laing. She attended Wilkie Bay School and following high school, went to Regina for teacher training. She taught at Arborfield, Kindred (near Holdfast) and Avonlea. When World War II erupted, she acquired some training in Winnipeg for a job with the British Admiralty and became an inspector in the production of "Bren" guns at Evansville, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois. Following the end of the war, she returned to Canada to live in Longueuil, Quebec. Alice moved back to Regina to a manager's position with the Robert Simpson company and it was during this period that she took classes at the university to upgrade her education so she could return to teaching. She also learned to drive a car during this period in her life. Alice accepted a teaching position on the Carry the Kettle Indian reserve near Sintaluta and the next year, had the opportunity to serve as a counsellor with the Department of Indian Affairs in Fort Qu'Appelle a position she held until her retirement. Alice resided at the Fort for several years until in 1987, she purchased a condo in Regina and lived there until her illness forced her just three months ago into a care facility where she received compassionate and loving care until her death. Alice had many interests and she pursued all of them with an incredible passion. Her prairie background contributed to her interest in all things of nature field tours, bird counts, plants and land formations. She was an active member of the Saskatchewan Natural History Society. Alice was also an avid oil painter, bridge player, and Roughrider fan and was always up to date on current events, sports and politics. She had travelled to many countries, always with her camera in hand. Very special to her were her family and their children and she was always supportive and generous with all of them. Alice was a good friend to many and will be missed. Alice was predeceased by her parents, an infant brother James, her brother Stuart Laing, sisters and their husbands; Margaret and Harold Davidson, Isabel and Donald Gardiner, Laura and Donald Joorisity, a niece Donna (Gardiner) Braden, a great-niece Victoria Webb, a niece-in-law Heather Laing and her brothers-in-law, Walter Yates and Bob McArton. Alice is survived by her sister Violet Yates of Merritt, B.C., her brother Douglas (Vera) Laing of Bethune, her sisters, Lillian McArton of Bethune and Beatrice (Harry) Struthers of Ogema, as well as her sister-in-law, Reva Laing of Regina. Left to mourn her death are twenty two nieces and nephews of whom she was most proud, and many great nieces and nephews. There will be no formal funeral service at Alice's request but in the spring, we will inter her ashes in her father's plot at Regina Memorial Gardens. LAWRENCE - Barbara Katherine (nee Giesinger) born July 8, 1915 at Dilke, SK and passed away January 11, 2009 in Regina, SK. She was predeceased by her husband Andrew (July 26, 2003); brothers Joseph, John, Frank, Ben and George; sisters Birdie Jacobs, Mary Ann Giesinger and Daisy Arnold. Linda is survived by her son Garry Ledingham of Calgary, AB; daughter Sandra Ledingham and husband Kevin Giles of Saskatoon; only granddaughter Zoey Ledingham of Nanaimo, BC, as well as four Holland and ten Ledingham nephews and nieces. Linda was born in 1912 at Dilke, SK and lived with her husband Elmer Ledingham and children in Colgate from 1945-1964. Linda was an Inspirational Educator and worked much of her life at the Regina Correspondence School, where she wrote courses and taught many international students. Linda was an active �Life Member� of Weyburn�s Alexandria Lodge, as well as a member of the United Church of Canada. Linda had a love of travel and the game of bridge and was the recipient of the Saskatchewan Government Medal of General Proficiency in 1930 for which she was very proud. She will be greatly missed as our �matriarch� and link to our families historical past. LIPP - Andrew passed away peacefully, at Newport Harbour Care Centre, Calgary, June 13, 2011 at the age of 83. He is predeceased by his stepson Shane Sebastian, six sisters and two brothers. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of George Lipp on February 24, 2009 in Regina Saskatchewan at the age of 84. He was the beloved husband of Theresa (nee Bast) for 48 years; a loving father to Dale (Nathalie Bolduc) and Kathy McKenzie (Noko); and grandpa/papa to Joel McKenzie and Matthew Kohuch. He had many careers, but loved his gravel truck business most. He was a very generous man who touched many lives. George loved everyone and was always ready to have a good time. He enjoyed laughing and sharing stories about the old days. Whenever there was work to be done, he was always ready to help out, with a hammer in hand, regardless of his condition and he never complained. He loved fishing, horseshoes and spending time with family and friends at the cottage on Lipps' beach. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing cribbage. He could count a crib hand at a glance. He also loved to repair anything around the house or whatever the neighbours brought over.He was a private person who never wanted anyone to worry about him, and was that way till the end. LONG - Eleanor "Babe" Chance (nee McArton) passed into the arms of her Lord after a brief illness on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the age of 84. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Bill (William); daughters Margaret (Bruce) Young of Shoreview, MN and Lizabeth (Stan) Oleksinski of Prince Albert; son Timothy (Brenda Beckman-Long) Long of Regina; grandchildren Genevi�ve, C�leste and Elliot Young and Max and Olivia Oleksinski; and sister Marion Schuett. Babe, as she was known to many, was born on the family farm near Dilke, SK. on February 19, 1931 and grew up with a passion for horses and poetry. She met the love of her life, Bill, in Regina and the two were married on July 25, 1953. Although she worked for periods as a secretary in the provincial government and at the Diocese of Qu'Appelle Synod office, she was proud to be a homemaker who devoted her life to her three children and five grandchildren. Her lively wit and imagination found expression as a member of the Saskatchewan Poetry Society since 1955, and as a Charter Member, along with her husband, of the Regina Archaeological Society. With Bill, she enjoyed social dance groups and for many years was a member of the Regina Lawn Bowling Club. Eleanor was always ready to help others, showing compassion to a wide circle of individuals, including regular visits to Qu'Appelle House, and service as a member of the Women's Auxiliary of St. Peter's Anglican Church (Regina) and Altar Guild at St. Philip Anglican Church (Regina). Her love of cats and dogs, particularly her grandchildren's, gave her much enjoyment and was reflected in her support of the Regina Humane Society. Friday, May 21, 2004, age 88 years, resident of Gemini Personal Care Home in Regina since December 1, 2001. Tiny was predeceased by her husband Charles (Ted) Lumley; parents Joseph and Margareta (Ackerman) Koch; sister Rose and husband Frank Schmidt; brothers: Tom and Opal Koch; a twin brother to Tom at birth; Frank and Ada Koch. Othillia will be remembered by brother Gustav and Heather Koch, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and a nephew Adam and Elaine Going in England. Tiny in her early years operated the Dilke Switchboard for six years, was then employed by SaskTel for 2 1/2 years, she met and married Ted Lumley of the Royal Air Force, this led her to England when Ted was posted to Burma. Tiny was then employed by the British Gov. Telephone System. During this tenure she worked in various places namely, Ministry of Fisheries, the Admiralty, Scotland Yard, Dollis Hill Research and Station. She was offered a position at Buckingham Palace; however Ted and Tiny had already decided to return to Canada after thirteen years with British Telephones. Returning to Regina she was again re-engaged by SaskTel for the next twenty years and seven months. In total she devoted twenty-nine years to the work she loved most, the telephone communication system. As per her request there will be no funeral service. Interment of Cremated remains will be with Ted's cremated remains in Riverside Memorial Park Columbarium. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Anita; son, Robbie; parents, Jean and Samuel; sisters, Martha (John) Bull, Elizabeth Lil Duckworth, and brother, William (Lil) McAdam. Jack is survived by his loving daughter, Sharon and his very caring son-inlaw, Allan Fahlman; the apples of his eye and reason for living, his granddaughters, Robyn (Chris Arno) and Becky; brother, Sam (Edna); sisters, Ida (Frank) Schnitzler, Marge (Eric) Seidlitz, Jean (Emil) Triffo; brother-inlaw, Ed Nicolay and many loved nieces, nephews, great neighbors and lifelong friends. Jack was born December 28, 1933 and raised in the Kedleston area, staying in the neighborhood to farm and raise his family. He enjoyed his cattle, hunting, net fishing, playing cards, visiting his neighbors and the odd cold beer. Ten years ago he moved to Parkside Extendicare and made it his home, livening up the weekly pub nights, happy hours, family nights Halloween parades with Alissa, casino outings with Moe and Penny or just generally teasing the staff, and looking forward to holidays at home. What will be missed the most is his quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, loving nature, generosity, mild mannered way, kindness, how proud he was of his family, and that little twinkle in those bright blue eyes. McLEAN - Anastasia Margaret (nee Ell) passed away peacefully with family at her side at the age of 96, in Regina, on May 29, 2010. Anne was born on September 23, 1913 in Dilke. She was predeceased by her husband, William McLean in 1983, her parents Henry and Philipina Ell, and siblings Barbara (Wins) Embury, Joseph, Amelia, Alphonse (Sylvia), Albert, and John, and sister-in-law Bernadette Ell. She leaves to mourn her loss, her brothers Charles and Fred (Julia), sister in-law Velma and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Anne will be remembered for her vegetable and flower gardens especially her sweet peas, and her bowl of treats at family celebrations. The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers of Robinson Care Home and Elmview Extendicare for their compassionate care for Anne during her last years. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Christ the King R.C. Church, Regina with Rev. Joy Montiague presiding. Interment to follow at Regina Memorial Gardens. MCLEOD - Allan Donald died peacefully with his family at his side, on June 23, 2011, after a long illness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Jeanne-Marie and three children, Keith (Linda) of Calgary, Li McLeod of Regina, Barbara Knighton of Los Angeles, and grandchildren Sari, Matthew, Skye, Aren, Taylor and Jesse, and three great grandchildren. Allan was born on July 20, 1925, in Dilke, Sask. He was a prairie boy, educated in a one room schoolhouse and remained dedicated to the farming community throughout his life. He served in the army in WWII following which he enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan, graduating in 1949 with his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Allan joined the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in 1950, to begin a career which spanned 39 years. Over the years he occupied a number of positions including rural extension, communications and advertising, economic research, policy, communications and administration. From 1986 to his retirement in 1989 he was Corporate Secretary. Transportation policy occupied an important place in Allan's career. He was a founding member of the Grain Transportation Technical Group (the first industry wide committee formed to improve co-ordination in grain transportation). In 1975 he was a member of an industry committee on the cost of moving grain by rail. He was responsible for policy development within Sask. Pool related to railway branch lines, rail costing for grain and the establishment of grain freight rates. Allan played an active role in his profession, serving as President of the Sask. Institute of Agrologists and later as National Councillor. In 1973 he became national president of the Agricultural Institute of Canada. He was granted a Recognition Award by the Sask. Institute for his outstanding contribution to the institute. His interests extended to the local, national and international agricultural community. He spent 3 years on the National Council of the Canadian Transportation Research Forum and later became a life member of the CTRF. He also served overseas with CIDA consulting assignments in Lesotho, Africa (1974), St. Lucia, West Indies (1987) and Estonia (1991). He served on the Senate of the University of Saskatchewan, board of the Sherwood Credit Union, and was active in several Regina church congregations, the Gyro Club and the Canadian Club. Allan will be remembered for his community service, personal integrity, perseverance and trustworthiness. He was a hunter, fisherman, amateur photographer, and enjoyed square dancing, and lawn bowling. His skills with tools and home renovation benefitted his children wherever they lived. He was dedicated to his family and travelled extensively with Jeanne-Marie. The family is grateful for the support of family, friends, church visitors and staff of Wascana Rehab during Allan's long illness. There will be a visitation from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on June 28 at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue. MCLEOD - Frank Stanley (June 5, 1927 - January 10, 2008). Frank's family are deeply saddened by his death at the age of 80, now joining his dearly beloved wife Beryl. He will be missed by son Ian (Dori), daughter Brenda Anderson (Erick), and grandsons Eldon (Serena), Ryan, Nathan and Evan. Grampa always had time for a run around the farmyard on his snowmobile or quad, a game, or a dip in the swimming pool. Also survived by brother Allan (Jeanne-Marie), nieces, nephews, and many other dear relatives and friends. Frank was born and raised on the family farm near Dilke, Sask. He raised his family and farmed successfully for many years before retiring to the city. Frank was an active member of the local Co-op, Dilke United Church, and was recognized for 50 years of service as a Weather Observer for Environment Canada. He enjoyed a lifetime of hunting, teaching hunter safety for many years, fishing with his children and grandchildren, and curling with friends. Upon retirement to the city, Frank kept busy with his garden and never-ending projects and hobbies. He was an active and faithful member of Wesley United Church, enjoying the camaraderie of worship and the men's club. Frank was a keen genealogist, devoting years of volunteer work for the Sask. Genealogical Society. He even became a pretty good pool player after moving to the city. He will be sorely missed by many communities. Interment to be held at a later date in Dilke Cemetery. METZ - George Stephen. On Thursday, November 20, 2003 George Stephen Metz, late of Dilke, SK., passed away at the age of 88 years. Predeceased by his mother Margaret in 1954, father Martin in 1966, wife Rose in 1971 and one brother Phil in 1998. Sally was born in Dilke and after normal school went teaching in Kronau and then Blumenfeld School near Sedley. It was while teaching there that she met and married Leo, devoted her time to family and Leo by helping on the farm. She was involved in many community and church affairs and worked for the C.W.L. also as a volunteer charity canvasser. She had many hobbies, her hands were never idle. She loved gardening, fishing, traveling and taking tours. Home hobbies included crocheting, knitting, paper tole projects and playing cards. She was a fighter as in 1978 had breast cancer; in 1998 had a heart bypass, and in 2000 was diagnosed with bone cancer. She continued to keep up the good spirit and faith until the end. Now her fighting is over and she is at peace. The family wishes to thank Drs. Peter Van Rooyen and Dr. Cline as well as the Palliative staff at the Pasqua Hospital and at the Wascana Grace Hospice for the loving care they gave Sally. MORTIN - Ernest Clarke Mortin, formerly of Bethune, SK, died quietly in hospital in Saskatoon on June 11, age 100. He is survived by Helen, his wife of 69 years, daughters Jean Mortin of Saskatoon, Linda Ferguson of Plymouth, MN and Sharon (Jim) Jeeves of Wolseley, SK, and daughter-in-law Isabel Mortin of Lethbridge, AB, by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren in Canada and the United States, and by one brother, Ken, of Virginia Beach, VA. He was predeceased by his son David in 2004, and by four sisters and three brothers. Born on July 2, 1905 to Evans and Elizabeth Mortin in Forest, ON, Ernie moved with his family to Strasbourg, SK in 1906 and to a farm near Dilke in 1914. He worked as a Saskatchewan Wheat Pool agent in Dilke and had an insurance business. He retired from the elevator in 1965 and he, Helen and Sharon moved to Bethune, where he continued his insurance business. In 1999, he and Helen moved to Saskatoon. A memorial service will be held in Bethune United Church on Monday, June 26 at 1.30 p.m., with Saskatoon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. MORTIN - Helen Elizabeth (nee Stanfield), formerly of Bethune, SK, died quietly at Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon on Jan. 19, age 96, after a brief illness. She was predeceased by Ernie, her husband of 69 years, in 2006 and by son David in 2004. She is survived by daughters Jean (Jenni) Mortin of Saskatoon, Linda Ferguson of Plymouth, MN, and Sharon (Jim) Jeeves of Wolseley, SK, and daughter-in-law Isabel Mortin of Calgary, AB, by seven grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren in Canada and the United States, and by sister Mearl Miller and brother Ralph Stanfield of White Rock, BC. Helen was born in Iowa in 1910 to Ralph and Cora Stanfield, who moved to Craik, SK in 1913. She attended Normal School in Regina and taught in schools in rural Saskatchewan and Manitoba before her marriage in 1936. She and Ernie lived in Dilke, SK for 29 years, where she taught music and was organist and choir director in the United Church. When they moved to Bethune in 1965, she became organist and choir director of Bethune United Church. They moved to Saskatoon in 1999. A memorial service will be held in Bethune United Church at a later date. MORTIN - Jessie Elizabeth (nee Bradley) passed into God's eternal care on June 22nd, 2002 at age 82. Beth was born in Kedleston, Sask. She taught school in the Strasbourg & Bulyea area for two years before moving to Ontario to marry Ken Mortin from Dilke. Her parents George and Jessie (Rogan) Bradley and her sister Lois Jones predeceased her. Beth is survived by her husband Ken, daughters Shirley Pickering and her son Mathew of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Beverley (Ron) Hauser and their daughter Megan of Troy, Michigan, son Gordon (Melinda) Mortin of Kennesaw, Georgia, four sisters, Jean Grund, Regina, Peg Mortin, Bethune, Helen Busch, Imperial, Louise Hickey, Penticton, BC, and two brothers, Jack (Shirle) Bradley, Regina, Archie (Silvia) Bradley, Bethune, as well as many nieces and nephews. NUGENT - Charles (Apr 21, 1938 - Dec 7, 2012). It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Nugent announces his passing on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the age of 74 years. Charles taught school for 25 years in Sedley. Illness forced him to retire in 1987. It is said that "to teach is to touch a life forever". Frank Nugent in 1960. OLSEN - Kathryn "Kay" (nee Gwilym) Olsen passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2014 at the age of 91 years. She was born on July 2, 1922 in Hardisty, Alberta to John and Alice (McCaffery) Gwilym. Kay is predeceased by her parents, her husband Walter Olsen (April 17, 2004) and her sisters Margaret (Robinson) and Mary (Schunk). She is survived by her children Sharon (Giesinger) and Don (Georgina), her grandchildren Glenn Giesinger (JoAnn), Ryan Giesinger (Shawn), Chloe Hughes (Neal), Cole Olsen (Tara), Kaeden and Makenna, and great-grandchildren Callie and Logan. As a teenager, Kay grew up in Dilke, Saskatchewan and later moved to Regina where she attended Secretarial College. She enjoyed working as a secretary/stenographer for the Canadian Pacific Railway (Divisional Freight). She met Walter Olsen in January of 1945 and it was love at first sight. They married on April 7, 1946. They resided in Regina their entire life together. Kay and Walter developed special friendships with their neighbours (Goldies, Powleys, Normans, Stansfields, Coffees). Kay and her dear friend Helen Bradley enjoyed many cruises and summers at Osoyoos together. Her Tuesday and Thursday coffee sessions with friends were an important part of her life. Kay was exceptionally healthy and active until just 6 months ago when her body began to feel its age. May Ritchie was Kay's angel of mercy during the last days, checking on her multiple times a day to ensure she was safe and well. The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Hospice for the tender compassionate care given to our mother and grandmother. Michael John Rogoschewsky was born in Regina, SK on January 18, 1956. He grew up at Dilke on the family farm and is survived by his mother, Helen; four sisters, Barbarann (Wayne), Joanne (Larry), Paulette (Steve), Linda (Cameron); and one brother, James (Joyce); six nieces, eleven nephews, four great nieces and four great nephews. He was predeceased by his father in January 1987. Mike is also survived by Holly's parents, Murray and Jean Holland; her brothers, James (Brenda) and Cory (Virginia); sister-in-law, Angela (Brian); also by aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides. Mike developed his work ethic by milking cows and serving mass before he went to school. Mike's greatest joys were his children; Christopher and Ryan. His greatest concern about his illness was leaving the boys behind at a young age. Mike is their special angel in his eternal life. Family, co-workers and friends were a huge part of his life. Betty was born on November 10, 1927 in Dilke, SK. She was predeceased by her parents, Ellis and Mary Barss; as well as brothers Bob and Dave; and daughter-in-law Leslie Roney. We take comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with the love of her life, Jim after 27 years of being apart. Betty is survived by her two sons, Ellis Roney and Murray (Leah) Roney. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her five grandchildren, Tera (Gwynn) Howitt, Krissy (Shaun Lerat) Roney, Eric (Kailey) Roney, Steve Roney and Kathleen Roney; her five great-grandchildren, Payton, Ethan, Hannah, and Wyatt Howitt as well as Gage Lerat. Also left to cherish her memory are her five siblings, Peg Stoyand; Regina, SK, Doug (Alice) Barss; Regina, SK, Don (Donna) Barss; Saskatoon, SK and Jean (Chuck) Schoffer; Saskatoon, SK; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Betty grew up on a farm just outside of Dilke, SK. As a young lady, she went to Teacher's College in Moose Jaw and taught in a one room school house until she married Jim in October, 1947. They moved to Jim's family farm in Imperial, SK and lived there for many years until they decided to make the big move to the city. Once the boys were older, Betty started work with Government of Saskatchewan until her retirement. Jim and Betty loved to do many things together including cooking, travel, riding bikes and golfing. They took road trips to the East Coast, visited Disneyland and many other places. Her love for travel didn't end with Jim's passing. Her last trip was an Alaskan Cruise with a good friend. You became part of our family when she moved in with you, we will be forever grateful for the excellent care you gave to her in the last three years. The family of Mae Smith, formerly of Dilke, SK, are deeply saddened by her death on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. Mae was born on March 22, 1926 to an immigrant Norwegian family, Anton Hansen (Anderson) and Karoline Johansen in the Mackenzie nursing home in Shaunavon, SK. She was the only one born in a nursing home, all the rest of her siblings were born on the farm near Scotsguard, SK. It is said by her older sister Alice, that Mae was so small when she was born, that she fit in a shoebox to take her home. Mae was the ninth child. Mae is also a first generation Canadian, being that her parents came here from South Dakota, USA in 1909 after the call to open Western Canada was announced. Mae took her schooling in Scotsguard, SK and also worked for various farmers and people around the district. Mae worked in Regina at the LaSalle, Champs, Kings and Palmer Hotels. It was here on October 11, 1945 that Mae and Lloyd P. Smith, of Dilke, SK, were married. They were married for 62 years until Lloyd passed away on November 10, 2007. Mae was predeceased by her siblings Andy Rudolph in infancy of Huron, SD, USA, Art of Malita, MB, Earl of Weyburn, Clarence and Harry of Regina, Alice of Delorain, MB and Sylvia of Botineau, ND, USA. She is remembered be her son Harvey of Regina; daughter Shirley (Ron) McNab; and her children Malissa (Mike) and her son Cody; Natasha (Regine) Alex and her children Taylor and Jade; Fabian; and Aashley (Steve) Matthews all of Moose Jaw and daughter Leona (Dan) Hungle and their children Dana Hungle and Shelley Young and her son Jonathan of Edmonton, AB. Mae was an avid curler, being on many winning teams from Dilke with a lot of the local people. Mae was also a member of the Rebecca Lodge for around 20 years; she liked to knit, when the curling sweaters came about she knitted quite a few in Norwegian patterns and she also crocheted and embroidered. Another soldier has gone, but not by war, but by life's natural causes. On Saturday, November 10, 2007, Percival Lloyd Smith UE of Sunset Extendicare, formerly of Dilke, SK, passed away at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK at the age of 89 years after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his father Samuel Elmer; mother Laura Adell Hinchy; six brothers Russell, Don, Cecil, Julian, Hollis Benjamin (in infancy) and Lawrence; two sisters Marjory and Alma; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law. Lloyd is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Mae; his son Harvey; daughter Shirley (Ron) McNab and their children Malissa, Natosha (RJ) Rejein, Fabian and Ashley; great grandchildren Cody, Taylor and Jayda; daughter Leona (Dan) Hungle and their daughters Dana and Shelly; great grandson Jonathon; sister-inlaw Katie Smith; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was born on the farm near Dilke, SK on September 2, 1918. He took his schooling at Wilkie Bay School, 2 1/2 miles east and south of the farm, after he thought his schooling was enough he worked around the communities and also did commercial fishing on Long Lake. In 1941, he enlisted in the army and was enlisted in the 8th RECCE, 14th Canadian Hussars from Swift Current, he trained at Dundurn and went overseas to England and trained more until they needed him. He saw action at Caan and Falaise, France, it was along the road to Falaise that he was wounded; his army stay was short lived. He was discharged in February of 1945. On October 11, 1945, he married Mae Anderson of Scotsguard, SK and together they raised three children at Chamberlain. He farmed on a quarter section of land, known as Bill Conley farm and worked along with his brother Don. In 1952, he sold the quarter of land and bought a new 1952 Chevrolet car and moved to his fathers farm near Dilke, SK. He farmed in the Dilke District until 1979 and sold three quarters to the Art Jones family who's farm joined alongside. The quarters north of Dilke went to Leonard Bast and the NE 26 went to Brian Smith and the Homestead of the century family farm award of this year went to Mervin Smith, his two nephews. Dad was also active in the community serving on various boards, Hall Board, Curling Club, Legion, Sask Wheat Pool, Community Pasture Association and the Co-op. He was also the president of the Saskatchewan Horseshoe Association; he was a great curler and horseshoe pitcher. In his spare time, Ray excelled at 10-pin bowling and was passionate about his sports, traveling south, fishing, hunting and gardening at Regina Beach. Lovingly remembered by daughters Kathryn (Peter) Leonard, Calgary and Janet (Neil) Maclean, Vermilion; six grandchildren; sisters Dorothy (Don) Swenson, Moose Jaw; Idabelle (Ross) Embury, Assiniboia; brother Charles (Marlene) and companion cousin Roy Tait, Edmonton, plus many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. TATE - Lorne L. born on May 3, 1921 at Dilke, SK passed away peacefully after a short illness with cancer on June 12, 2006 at Regina SK. Lorne is survived by his loving wife Alice; son Kenneth (Bev) Tate, grandsons Ross and Mike, daughter Lorna (George) Wallace, grandson Robert. Lorne attended schools in Regina, was a member of the Masons Scottish Rite, Royal Canadian Legion, fought in Sicily, Italy, Holland and Germany. He married Alice Sutherland in 1947, enjoyed traveling, golfing, biking, and woodworking, had a wonderful family and many friends. (nee Anderson) of Punnichy, Sask, passed away peacefully at Regina General Hospital surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the age of 98 years. She was born in Dilke, Sask. April 28, 1916. Thelma was predeceased by her parents, Otto and Clara Anderson; her sisters Olivia (Hutchinson), Barbara (Charles), Mathilda (Charles), Edna (Smith), and Agnes (Hitcherick); and her brothers Otto and Clarence. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert; children Tracy (Hamel), Trevor, and Teresa; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.There is no funeral but a memorial service to celebrate Thelma's life will be held at a later date, in the spring, when she will be interred with her parents at the Dilke Cemetery. WALSH - Mary Magdalena (nee Selinger), 1912 - 2003, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 29, 2003 at 91 years of age. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Charles; parents, John and Elizabeth Selinger; siblings, Jerome, Ralph and Anne; and daughter-in-law, Marjorie. She is survived by her daughter Dolores (Ed) of Regina, and her son, Ronald of Saskatoon. Also left to cherish her memory are eight grandchildren: Douglas (Janice), Dean, Darrin, Christa (Michael), Cathy, Ron (Judy), Darryl (Lisa) and David (Janet); and five great grandchildren: Sarah, Mitchell, Isaac, Lucy and Vanessa. Mary was born and raised near Dilke, SK, where her parents farmed. She married Charles in 1932 in Regina and was in the employ of the Robert Simpsons Company for 25 years. Mary was a big sports fan, her favorites being hockey and football. She and Charles had season tickets for the Saskatchewan Roughriders for many years. Arrangements in care of Speers Funeral Chapel and Crematorium Services. WOLTER - D. Mildred (nee Hepburn), of Regina, widow of the late Ted Wolter, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2005. She was the youngest of three daughters born to the late Mr. and Mrs. William Hepburn of Dilke. After receiving her education in Dilke, she attended and graduated from Regina Normal School in 1940. In 1943 she married Theodor Wolter and during their forty-one years of married life, lived in many Saskatchewan locations in Ted's capacity as C.P.R. station agent. On retirement they remained in Rouleau, spending their summers at Grandview Beach. Ted passed away in 1984 and Mildred moved to Regina 1987. In her final resting place she will be greeted by her husband Ted, parents Bill and Dorothy Hepburn, sister and brother-in-law Hilda and Warren Martin, brother-in-law Elmer Josvanger. Survivors are sister Drusilla Josvanger of Regina, brother and sister-in-law Herb and Jean Wolter of Bulyea, eleven nephews and nieces, and a host of friends. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Young on Thursday, August 14, 2014, with her family by her side. Evelyn was born on April 7, 1933 in Dilke, Sask. and had many fond memories of growing up in that community full of family. She is predeceased by her parents Olga and Joe Gartner and siblings Eugene, Pete, Molly, Mary and Eleanor. Left to miss her sadly are children Bob, Gae, Tim and Rhonda; grandchildren Jennifer Young, Matthew and Morgan Goddu; nieces and nephews Carol, Arlene, Colleen, Sharon, Anita, Doreen, Don, Scott, Kim, Bryon, Kelly and Raena. Evelyn was a life force with an easy sense of humour and a hugely generous spirit. She had a deep love of nature and loved to garden. She spent many an evening on her deck admiring the beauty of her flowers. Evelyn raised four children on her own through difficult times with humour and a deep sense of responsibility. Thanks deeply to her son Tim Young who took care of Evelyn over these last years and to niece Doreen, for so wonderfully stepping in these last days. A family Celebration of Evelyn will be held at a later date. ZIEGLER - Anton "Tony" (March 24, 1927 - September 24, 2013). Tony passed away peacefully with family at his side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, September 24, 2013. His passing reunites Tony with his dear wife Anne (2005) and daughter Karen (1964). Tony will be forever loved and missed by his daughters, Arleen (Paul) Cocks of Saskatoon and Sandy (Mel) Keating of Prince Albert; his treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Tammy (Craig) Cole, Connor Warden, Toby Cocks, Shawn (Elysia) Keating, Stacey, Kira and Jade Keating; as well as brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends. Tony was born into a family of twelve in Dilke, SK. He had a lengthy career, starting out as a welder at Northwest Iron Works and moving up to construction supervisor at Saskatchewan Steel Fabricators Ltd. He retired as superintendent of construction from Stelco Fabricators Ltd. Anne was the love of his life and they were able to celebrate 57 years of marriage. The family would like to thank the palliative home care nurses. Donations in memory of Tony may be made to a charity of choice. In keeping with Dad's wishes, there will be no formal funeral. A simple private interment for family will be held. |
