AMENDT - Ernest. The death of Mr. Ernest Amendt of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson, occurred at his residence on Tuesday, February 6, 2007. He was 85 years of age. Ernest will be lovingly remembered by three children: Alvin (Louise) Amendt of Jansen; Reuben (Caroline) Amendt of Watson; and Rosemary (Kelvin) Nernberg of Moose Jaw. The Funeral Service for Ernest will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Jansen, on Saturday, February 10, 2007, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Mark Hedlin. Interment will follow at Prairie Rose Lutheran Cemetery in the Dafoe district. BIRCHARD - Elsie (nee Kvamme). The funeral service for Elsie Birchard will be held Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Paul's United Church Assiniboia, SK. Officiant Rev Neil Gilbert. Interment at a later date in Verwood Cemetery, Verwood, SK. Memorial tributes will be received for Heart & Stroke Foundation, Ross Payant Nursing Home or St. Paul's United Church. Elsie Margaret Birchard (nee Kvamme) passed away March 16, 2008 at Ross Payant Nursing Home in Assiniboia, SK. Elsie was born in Viceroy, October 12, 1923, the ninth child of Johannes and Gudrid Kvamme. Life was hard for the family Elsie lost her dad to tuberculosis when she was only 7 and the following year, her oldest brother was killed in a coal mine accident. She lost another brother in the Second World War. After completing high school, she worked in the Post Office, first in Viceroy and then in Assiniboia. On July 17, 1944, she married the love of her life, Chester Birchard. He was stationed in the R.C.A.F. in the Yukon, and since this was a station where wives could not go, she worked in McKague's General Store in Viceroy while she waited for him. When Chess was moved to Dawson Creek, he came home for New Years and took his wife back with him. Alvery was born there. Elsie's mother joined them in Dawson Creek and moved with them to Dafoe, SK., where they started a garage business. While in Dafoe, Kathy was born. In 1949, they sold the garage and moved to the Bennett farm in the Verwood area. While living on the farm, Ted and Kim were born, completing the family. In 1958, Chess took a job in Verwood as elevator agent for Weyburn Flour Mills and the family moved into the company house. Farming was done on weekends now. In 1964, Chess gave up his job in Verwood and moved to the farm they purchased from Howard Weal on Highway 13, east of Verwood. Here they stayed until Chester's poor health required that they move to Assiniboia. They enjoyed the years they had in retirement, spending time bowling and woodworking in the shop Chess built in the backyard. In 1983 Chess passed away after another heart attack and Elsie went on to build the house that they had planned before he became ill. In 1992, Elsie purchased one side of a duplex on Kasper Crescent and lived there until she moved to East Side Court in 2002. She enjoyed the company of other people there and was able to make new friends and socialize more this was something she had missed when she lived by herself. Last May, she moved to the Ross Payant Nursing Home, suffering from dementia and needing full time care and attention. Elsie lived for her family and visited them often. In her retirement, she travelled to Norway, Australia, and Hong Kong. As well, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She was also a faithful church member and attended services when her health allowed. Her game of choice was Scrabble whenever she could persuade someone to play. Another pastime was cross word puzzles (often checking the solutions printed in the back of the book when she was stumped). She would have made an excellent teacher, which was her dream as a young girl. Elsie was predeceased by her father, Johannes in 1930, her mother Gudrid in 1955, her husband Chester in 1983, brothers and their spouses: Ole, Alfred (Elva), Clarence, Glenn; sisters and their spouses: Gunhild (Bert) Greenfield, Thelma (Harold) Benn, Rose Scott, Clarice (Benny) Bolton; brothers-in-law and spouses: Norman Birchard, Russell (Mary) Birchard, Ralph Birchard, Dick Turner, one grandson, Bradley Birchard. She is survived by her four children: son, Al (Sherri), grandson Jordan, daughter Kathy (Donald) Stevenson, grandson Chad (Nadine) and great granddaughters Jade and Jenika, grandson Jarrod (Jamie) and great grandson Vaughn, son Ted (Lynn), granddaughter Amy (Aron) McInness, grandson Ryan and son Kim (Carol), sister Ella (Peter) Carroll, brothers-in-law Lloyd Scott, Cecil (Doris) Birchard, and sistersin-law Jo Kvamme, Joyce Birchard, Connie Birchard, Myrtle Turner, Lil (Chuck) Jenner, Joyce (Ben) Giesbrecht and many nieces and nephews who will miss her. BOLT - Brice John Bolt passed away peacefully at home in the Golden Acres in Wynyard on April 18, 2007 at the age of 84. Brice was born August 24, 1922 to George and Doris Bolt at the family farm in the Copeland District the third of six children. Brice was raised there where he and his brothers learned the family trade. He, along with his younger brother Denis, continued farming alongside their father. Later Brice joined six other local farmers to establish the Lakeside Machinery Cooperative, Ltd. He was the last surviving founding member of the original Big Seven and the Cooperative continues to grow its operations today under the guidance of the second and third generations of the original families. As a young man, Brice was a spirited competitor in baseball and hockey. The years Brice spent on the baseball diamond provided him with the knowledge needed to be the passionate armchair athlete he would later become he could always tell you where the Blue Jays were in the standings and where they should be in the standings! Brice's love of sport continued throughout his entire life, whether watching his grandchildren compete, or trying to best his sons during fishing expeditions in northern Saskatchewan. Brice married Elaine Morrow March 28, 1958 at Copeland Anglican Church. Together they raised six children on their family farm in Copeland where the family farming tradition continues today. In 1987 Brice retired to Wynyard with his wife Elaine where they enjoyed ten years of socializing with family and friends, whether playing cards, enjoying music, or traveling. After Elaine's passing he appreciated making new friends with neighbours in Maple Grove and Golden Acres. Predeceased by Elaine in 1997, Brice's passing is mourned by his six children, Sydney and his wife Shelley, Moose Jaw, and their children Matthew, Meghan and great granddaughter Brooklyn; Eileen and husband Tom Shaw, Saskatoon, and their son Brian; Glen and his wife Claire, Dafoe, and their children Jamin, Rylan and great granddaughter Emma; George and his partner Daniel Henbid, Saskatoon; Beverley and her husband Jeff Webber and their children Danielle and Jerome, Airdrie; Calvin and wife Candice and their children Briana, Allysia and Lorne, Hafford. Brice's three brothers, Bill, Len and Denis, also predeceased him while leaving to mourn his two surviving sisters in British Columbia, Marjorie and husband Bob Iggulden, Surrey; and Joyce Pomeroy, New Westminster, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at Golden Acres who provided such warm and compassionate care to Dad during his last two years. Respecting Brice's wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. BROOKS - John "Jack" Peter Brooks died November 11, 2005 in St. Paul's Palliative Care Unit, Saskatoon. He was born on the farm near Dafoe, SK on July 25, 1925. He completed Grade 12 at Foote School south of Dafoe, and received a diploma in agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan. From 1944 to 1946 he served with the Canadian army and trained as a paratrooper in the Airborne Division. After discharge, he was employed as a fireman for the CNR in Saskatoon, then qualified as an engineer. Jack married in 1950 and returned to the family farm in 1951. In 1953 he purchased a service station at the Dafoe junction, then a service station and cafe at the Elfros junction, and later the BA service station in Wynyard. He then purchased Brooks Motors, a General Motors franchise, service station and an autobody shop in Wynyard. After 35 years in the automotive retail business, he spent ten years as manager of the Wynyard Public Housing Authority. Jack dedicated his life to the service of others. He was an active member of St. Margaret's Anglican Church, a member of the vestry, and a Licensed Lay Reader since 1962. He served on Wynyard Town Council and was named "Citizen of the Year " in 1979. He was Zone Commander of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was director of the Yorkton Branch of the Sask. Motor Club since 1962 and served as President for five years. He was trustee of the Board of Education, Shamrock School Division, for 17 years and Chair of the Board for 12 years. On October 24, 2005 he received the Centennial Medal for contributions to the people of Saskatchewan. Jack was initiated into Masonry in 1960 in Elfros Lodge #145 and was later Master, then Secretary, of that Lodge. He was Grand Master for Saskatchewan in 1993. He was also active in other Masonic bodies, having his 33rd degree in the Scottish Rite as well as many other Masonic honours. He was received as a member in the Provincial Grand Lodge, Royal Order of Scotland, in 1983. He was past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Wynyard, a member of the Wa-Wa Shrine Temple, and past President of the Wyn-El-Wa Shrine Club. Jack served as a volunteer in a number of capacities: he drove people to appointments until he himself entered hospital. Jack spent as many prairie days as he could on the golf course. He often slipped out for a round in the morning or at dusk. He enjoyed curling and supported the Seniors' Curling Club. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Kay (Lasko); his daughters, Pat Anderson (Ken and granddaughters Rachael and Emily) of Calgary, Joyce (Ralph Starks and granddaughters Alison and Katherine) of Prince Albert, and Jackie of Saskatoon; his siblings Betty Mebs of Broadview, Florence Fallon of Dorchester, ON, and Stella Staples of Moose Jaw; his in-laws, Gordon Hamilton of Armstrong, BC, Edna Brooks of Saskatoon, Shirley Brooks of Wynyard; many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Valerie Anne, in 1960; his parents, Martha (Cline) and Oswald; his siblings, Nellie Hamilton, Stanley, Jim, Arthur and Alan; his in-laws, Anne Brooks (Lasko), Wilbert Mebs, Dan Fallon, and Dick Staples. Jack was an honest man, a good neighbour and friend, and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved his home, district and country. He teased his granddaughters and had a lot of fun. Jack had a rare zest for life and he made a difference. The funeral will be held at the Wynyard Civic Centre, Main Street, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2005, The Ven. G.R. Huggill presiding. Lunch will immediately follow the service. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Copeland. Viewing for Jack will be held Tuesday November 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Narfason's Chapel (317 Ave A East) Saskatoon. BROOKS - Joyce Ellen (November 26, 1953 - January 22, 2010). Joyce was born on November 26, 1953 in Saskatoon, Sask. Her family farmed in the Copeland area, and later moved to Dafoe, then Elfros, then Wynyard. Joyce graduated from high school in Wynyard, and went on to receive a BA in English, then a BSc in Nursing from the U of S. Joyce received many awards in her academic career, including a national student nursing leadership award in 1984. Joyce worked at a variety of positions, including a number of years with the Faculty of English at U of S, until her graduation from nursing, when she began her career as a public health nurse in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Joyce married Ralph Starks, and they made their home with their two daughters in Prince Albert. She loved her daughters unconditionally, and was fiercely proud of them. Joyce loved to travel, and spent a year in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. She later travelled with friends and with Ralph and her children throughout North America and the Caribbean, and she and her family most recently spent Christmas in Guatemala in 2006. Joyce had many wonderful people in her life, and loved nothing better than to spend time with old and new friends. She was an open-hearted, respectful and thoughtful friend, and was valued for her wisdom, intelligence, and sense of humour. She had a rare zest for life, she loved to be active, she loved swimming and got her red belt in taekwondo, and she loved to read. It was her openness and honesty about her illness, her strength, her skills and her assertiveness, and her positive outlook, that allowed those around her to meet her illness alongside her. Joyce was a good and loving person, and we will miss her. We wish to thank her friends, and all of the people in Prince Albert and beyond, for their caring support and compassion throughout Joyce's illness. Joyce was predeceased by her father Jack and her sister Valerie. She is survived by her husband Ralph; her two daughters Alison and Katherine; her mother Kay; her sisters Jackie and Pat (Ken) and her children; Ralph's parents, Ralph and Edith and his sisters Stephanie (Denis) and Sue (Jacques) and their children. Interment will be held at St. Mary's Anglican Church Cemetery, Copeland, south of Dafoe on Wednesday January 27, 2010. COWIE - Darlene Ann. With great sadness the family of Darlene Cowie announces her sudden passing on Tuesday, August 29, 2006. Darlene is survived by her two daughters, Lori (Cory), grandson, Tyler; and Kristina (Glenn); sisters, Marilyn, Blanche, Sharon, Heather; and close friend of the family, Don. She was raised in Dafoe, SK and moved to Saskatoon where she spent 30 years working at Canada Post until her retirement. She then went on to fulfill her passion for carpentry, traveling and golf. Her family and friends were very important to her. Hospitality was a great part of her life, always having time to sit down in fellowship. She will be sadly missed but we have the comfort of knowing her destiny of a heavenly home. A celebration of Darlene's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at Prairie View Chapel (9 km. south on highway 11) at Prairie View Road. DEWAR - Ann Isabelle (nee Dew) Warrian Dewar (December 21, 1924 - September 21, 2010). The death of Mrs. Ann Isabelle (nee Dew) Warrian Dewar of LeRoy, SK, occurred at Lanigan Hospital, Lanigan, SK, on Tuesday, September 21, 2010. She was 85 years of age. Ann was born on December 21, 1924, to Harry and Teeney (nee Reid) Dew at Dafoe, SK. She grew up there and attended Dafoe School. Following her education, Ann was employed in town at the Dafoe Cafe and at Haight Grocery Store. In 1944, she married Jim Warrian. They made their home on a farm at Watson, where their marriage was blessed with two sons. In 1950, the family circle was broken when Jim prematurely passed away. Ann and her young sons continued to reside at Watson. On September 20, 1951, Ann married Duncan Dewar in Humboldt, SK. They purchased the Dewar homestead, where they lived and ran a mixed-farm operation. In 1959, the family moved into the town of LeRoy and continued to farm from there until Duncan's death in 2005. After moving into LeRoy, Ann's sons played hockey and she was their number one fan as she proudly watched them at the rink. Throughout her life, Ann had a passion for gardening and flowers, especially lilies. She loved the outdoors and derived much pleasure from watching the blue jays, chickadees, wrens, hummingbirds, and even the crows which were attracted to her yard, due to the sheltered environment and the generous amount of feed she always provided for them. Other favourite pastimes were playing the piano during musical jam sessions with her friends, travelling to various points in western Canada and the United States and, more than anything, spending time with her family. Ann will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sons, daughter-in-law, and grandson: George Warrian of LeRoy, and Don and Jeanette Warrian of Lanigan and their son Darren Warrian (Loreen Douglas) of Red Deer, AB; her brother, Lawrence (Evelyn) Dew of Airdrie, AB; and by a special niece, Linda (Don) Carson of Saskatoon. She was predeceased by her first husband, Jim Warrian; second husband, Duncan Dewar; parents, Harry and Teeney (nee Reid) Dew; and by her sister, Emily Martin. At Ann's request, there will not be a funeral service. A private family interment will take place at a later date. DOIDGE - Alfred Edward, born on the family farm in Foote District near Dafoe on June 5, 1917, passed away peacefully at Golden Acres Care Home Wynyard on July 20, 2006. He is predeceased by brothers & sisters in law Art (Elsie) Ernie (Mary) Joe(Alice), sisters & brothers in law Isabel(Ernie) Taylor, Clara(Alf) Curral, Gladys (George) Crawford, sisters-in-law Nellie(Joe) Linnen, Carole Bamford, brothers-in-law: Ray Bamford, Norm Bamford, Ed Fink., Chris Schubert. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Nora; sons: Charles (Pat), Harlow (Joanne) Leon (Karen); grandchildren: Charmaine (Greg) Pankewicz, Trena Mallory, Melanie(Kevyn) , Holly, Michael(Shannon), Jodi and 6 great grandchildren, sister: Irene Schubert, sisters-inlaw Joan Bamford and Jess Fink. Alfred proudly served in the Air Force. He married Nora Bamford and they farmed in the Dafoe area for 32 years and raised their three sons there. They left the farm and moved to Wynyard in 1978 where Alfred worked at the Massey Dealership and later spent his free time building numerous garden sheds. When their health deteriorated, he and Nora resided at a private care home and eventually in Golden Acres Nursing Home. Alfred was a friend to all and took an active role in the Community. He was a dedicated Legion Member for 61 years, served on the Foote School and United Church Boards, RM Council. His passion was hunting and he & Nora spent time square dancing, camping, travelling on bus tours and taking drives in the local area. He will always be remembered for his warm smile, hearty handshake and his friendly disposition. He touched many lives, with his genuine care & concern for others. On Monday, August 20th, 2007, Harlow Doidge passed away at Vancouver. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to a man who touched many lives and will live on forever in our memories. Harley was born in Wynyard, Saskatchewan on February 2nd, 1949. He grew up on his family's farm near Dafoe and completed high school in Wynyard. At 19, Harley left home and started his career with the RCMP. He proudly served 27 years throughout British Columbia. In 1994 he and his family retired in Kamloops. He was predeceased by his father, Alfred Doidge. He leaves to mourn his mother Nora, wife Joanne, son Michael (Shannon) and his precious grandson Landon, daughter Jodi, brothers Charles (Pat), Leon (Karen), nieces Melanie (Kevin), Holly, Charmaine (Greg) and Trena, his mother-in-law Sylvia, sister-in-law Sandy, Aunts (Jessica Fink, Joan Bamford and Irene Schubert) many cousins & good friends. Harley was a lover of country music, old westerns and the simple things in life. He was a protector and a provider who would do anything for those he loved. A celebration of his life will be held at the Calvary Temple on Rogers Way, Kamloops, B.C., Monday, August 27th, 2007 at 3:00p.m. DOIDGE - Nora Irene (nee Bamford) born on November 12, 1919, passed away peacefully at Golden Acres Care Home Wynyard on November 1, 2007. She is predeceased by her husband, Alfred & very recently her son Harlow. Sisters: Nellie Linnen, Carol Bamford. Brothers: Ray & Norman Bamford. Also many Brothers and Sisters in Law. She is survived by sons Charles (Pat), Leon (Karen), daughter-in-law Joanne. Grandchildren: Charmaine (Greg) Pankewicz, Trena Mallory, Melanie (Kevyn) Kristmanson, Holly, Michael (Shannon) and Jodi Doidge: 7 Great-grandchildren.: sister Jessica Fink and sisters-in-law Joan Bamford & Irene Schubert. Nora was born on the family farm near Dafoe. She married Alfred in 1943. They farmed in the Dafoe area for 32 years. They retired to Wynyard. When Nora's health deteriorated she resided in the Golden Acres Care Home. She sang in the Foot Copeland and Wynyard United church choir for 40 years. Square dancing, quilting, gardening & baking were among many of the things she loved to do. She also enjoyed camping and taking bus tours. It is with deep sadness that her family announces the passing of Laura Hamilton, age 96 years at Saskatoon on Friday, February 23rd, 2007. Laura was born Alice Laura Mills on September 23rd, 1910 and lived her childhood years in the Watrous area. She married Gordon Hamilton on October 18th, 1934 and they farmed at Kandahar, Saskatchewan until 1947, when they returned to Dafoe to take over the Hamilton family farm. They farmed there until 1972 when they retired to Saskatoon. Laura was predeceased by her husband in 1985; daughter Myrna in 1996; brothers Tom, Leslie, Raymond; sisters Olive and Doris. Laura will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Muriel (Arnold) Dube of Cochrane, AB.; grandsons Kevin (Barbara), Dean (Sue); and great granddaughter Chayse. She thoroughly enjoyed helping others through volunteer work and took great pride in her garden. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. HARDIE - Allen, born in Dafoe, formerly of Regina, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 20, 2003 in Moose Jaw. He is predeceased by his first wife Charlotte and second wife Anne; four sisters: Marjorie, Eva, Edna and Sylvia; parents Malcolm and Agnes. Allen is survived by his son Rick and two daughters: Cheryl (Terry) Thurrott and Gayle Mackintosh; four grandchildren: Chris, Corey, Daniel and Randall; one sister Ethel Remenda as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Private Family Service will be held. HARDING - Leonard (December 14, 1927 - November 5, 2013). The death of Leonard Harding, aged 85 years, occurred on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Watrous Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held in Copeland United Church near Dafoe, SK on Saturday, November 9th at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Foote Copeland Cemetery. JOHNSON - Florence E. (nee Atkinson). The passing of Florence Johnson, age 86, or Porteous Lodge, Saskatoon occurred on August 17, 2005 at her residence. Florence will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Sandra Warrington (Gary) of Paradise Valley, AB and Marilyn Leontowicz (Ken) of Saskatoon, SK; grandchidren, Scott and Sarah Warrington; and sister-in-law, Anna Helgeson of Smeaton, SK. She was predeceased by her husband, Johannes Johnson (July 9, 1972); her brother, Gordon Atkinson; and her grandson, Kurt M. Leontowicz. Florence was born in Dafoe, SK on August 11, 1919. During WW II she joined the service and was stationed in Ottawa. Florence was employed at the Elk's Lodge as catering manager until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Thomas Wesley United Church and the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Association. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 19, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Margaret McKechney officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Field of Honour. JORDAN - Archie Robert Jordan was born September 13, 1927 at Copeland, Sask. and died on April 17, 2003, McClurry, MB at the age of 75 years with family by his side. He was one of 11 children born to Margaret and Wilfred Jordan. Archie, Lorna and their three daughters Valerie, Dianne and Brenda resided in Midale in the 70's where he was employed in the oil field, the PFRA and the Midale Hotel. Archie had a great sense of humor, loved sports especially the Montreal Canadiens, playing crib and the guitar. He is lovingly survived by his three daughters: Valerie (Frank) Roy; Dianne (Marius) DeLaet and Brenda (Foed) Gader; eight grandchildren; partner Mary and family in McClurry, MB; first wife Lorna Jordan, Vancouver, BC; four brothers: Stan (Mary) Jordan, Earl (Rose) Jordan, Lloyd (Pat) Jordan, Les Jordan and their families. Interment service was held at Copeland Cemetery on April 17 where he was laid to rest. KEYSER - Jakobina "Bina" Kristin (nee Reykdal) March 11, 1929 - January 20, 2012. Born on the family farm east of Dafoe, Sask, the youngest of five, Bina was proud of her Icelandic heritage. A strong family value of music meant voice and piano lessons. Later Bina sang in or directed a number of groups and choirs including: Cantabile, Wynyard United Church, Songbirds, Quance Chorus, Icelandic Choir, and Generations. Influenced by the reality of single parenting in the Depression, Bina's mother widowed at age 38, strongly encouraged her daughters to pursue an education. After Normal School Bina taught at Levant and Nordra before marrying George Keyser October 21, 1949. According to the culture of the day a woman was required to resign her teaching position when pregnant. While at home raising three daughters and listening to Trans Canada Matinee, Bina learned it was possible to take university classes by correspondence. In those years Bina was involved in 4-H Homecraft and Home Makers. She completed her BEd with distinction in 1976. High school choirs under her direction received high marks and numerous awards at local music festivals and a number of her students were selected for Provincial Honour Choirs. Bina retired from teaching having served for 24 years. LANGDON - Edith Jeannetta (nee Craik) Langdon passed away quietly at the Golden Prairie Home, Indian Head, SK on March 26, 2006. Edith was born on April 21, 1919 at Dafoe, SK. She attended Jones School in the Resource district after her family moved from Dafoe. Edith lived most of her life on a farm in the Melfort area except for a few years during World War II when they lived in Toronto. She married Charlie Langdon on December 24, 1938 and they farmed in the Resource district until 1973. In 1985, Edith and Charlie moved to Legion Place in Melfort, where she resided until April, 2002 when she moved to Indian Head, SK. Edith was predeceased by her husband, Charlie, in November of 1992; her parents, Ernest and Maggie Craik; her sisters, Ethel and Fern; and brothers, Jack, Frank and Milton. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughters, Marjorie (Robert Scully) Edmonton, AB, Audrey (Doug Lovegrove) Dundurn, SK, Roberta (Andy Anderson) Saskatoon, SK, Cathie (Lawrence Natyshak) Indian Head, SK, Shirley (Glenn Barclay) Biggar, SK; and her son, Charlie (Rose-Marie Broustal) Ashern, MB; and her brother, Ernest Craik, Kenora, ON; and sister-in-law, Lahla Craik, Springfield, ON. Edith had 14 grandchildren, Royce (Frances) Scully, LeRae (Guy) Hetchler, Lowell (Jeanette) Scully, Laveena (David) Tratch, Marita Lund, Rena (Erik) Backstrom, Anita (Marcel) Lorenz, Randy Lovegrove, Maureen Lovegrove, Michael Langdon, Jared Scully, Michelle (Sean) Stabner, Kristina and Danielle Barclay. Edith also had 26 great-grandchildren, Jenna, Nelson, Alexandra, Brooke and Jon Robert Scully; Megan, Kipling, Christiana and Niklaus Hetchler; Gryphon, Jade and Caleigh Scully; Maiah and Abbie Tratch; Jassie, Cameron, Mitchel and Bretton Lund; Dallin, Ceris, Robert and Linnea Backstrom; Sydney and Jessica Lorenz and Devon and Brooke Lovegrove. The memorial service to celebrate Edith's life will be held at the Fedusiak Funeral Chapel, Melfort, SK at 2:00 p.m. on March 30, 2006. LISSEL - Ernie George, November 19, 1930 - September 19, 2001. Ernie was born at his Grandparents (Holfeld) farm near Dafoe, SK. Ernie was home with his family for the first 2 1/2 years. Then, due to his mothers ill health, he lived with his Grandparents until he started elementary school at Jansen in 1937. The experience of family life with the Holfeld Grandparents gave him a very large extended family. Ernie was a graduate of Luther College (1949), and Saskatoon Normal School (1950). He taught school at Lorenzo, Poplar View, and Raymore. In 1957 he returned to U of S and continued study toward an education degree. He then transferred to the College of Pharmacy (B.S.P. 1961). On September 17, 1960 Ernie married Margaret Huckle. Ernie worked as a pharmacist at Walker's Drugs and then with Pinder Drugs for 27 years retiring February 1, 1989. Ernie was a man of strong faith, and determination, and faced life with courage and bravery. Despite the many challenges (MS and cancer) life forced upon him, he remained strong in faith, believing the best about his fellow man and was devoted to family. He was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Ernie loved music, sang in church choir, and the University Chorus. At the end of his life he spent many hours listening to "Messiah" which relaxed him and gave him great pleasure. Ernie loved to visit, enjoyed meeting people and would gently discuss any topic of interest to them, in order to gain insight and understanding. Through many emjoyable hours of observing birds, deer, foxes, and plants, Ernie's love of nature and "live and let live" attitude prevailed. When Ernie's health detoriated, he spent many days observing nature through "His Window" at the acreage and on Discovery Channel. Ernie will be lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret (Huckle); daughter Jean (Doug) Brehon and their children Sean and Meghan; son Ryan (Nancy) Lissel and their children Kayla, Kirk, Kyle, Keaton; brothers Kurt (Bea) Lissel and Norman (Thelma) Lissel; several nieces and a nephew and the Huckle family. The celebration of Ernie's life will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2001 at 3:30 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Saskatoon, SK. Interment will take place on Sunday, September 23, 2001 at 2:30 p.m. at Prairie - Rose Cemetery, north of Dafoe, SK. LOWE - Irene Elizabeth (nee Hardie) Skjerven Lowe. With great sadness the family announce the peaceful passing of Irene Elizabeth Lowe; nee Hardie on April 3, 2009. Predeceased by husbands, Raymond Skjerven 2007 and Howard Lowe 2008. Irene was the 5th of 9 children born to Lydia and Billy Hardie on the farm in Dafoe, Sask. on June 9, 1922. Mourned by sister and brother, Maybelle Nordick and Clarence Hardie. Predeceased by her veteran brothers, Ronald, Alex, Willis (KIA WWII) and Billy; and sisters, Olive and Jean. She married Raymond Skjerven in 1942 and lovingly raised three children, Raye Hood (Gerald 1994), Bille Joy (Larry Gardner) and Henry Skjerven. She was an avid sportswoman, 1950�s Saskatchewan ladies fastball and bonspiel champs. She skated, golfed and loved to walk. She sang in choirs for 20 years and played harmonica and slide guitar. She chaired Boy Scouts for a decade in Lanigan, Sask. She sewed her children�s clothes, was an excellent housekeeper who gardened, preserved, pickled and baked her own daily bread until she was 70 years old. A proud Legion member, she loved people and kept up with a wide collection of friends she had made through her life. She ran a housekeeping staff at the Pelee Motor Inn and clerked in stores before and after she and Howard retired to Pelee Island. She loved her "Leaholme", island home. Those sunsets! She painted, crafted jewellery and roamed the woods and beaches on the bikes. She delighted in keeping hunters on Pelee for the pheasant hunts. In her old age she lived in Amherstburg, Ont., near her daughter Bille Joy and family. She loved and supported her seven grandchildren; Glenn, Karin, Cole, Jade, Jason, Monique and Sean and four great grand children who join her caregivers, friends, siblings and their parents in sorrow at her death. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends to gather on June 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM, Rose Hill Cemetery, Amherstburg, Ont. for interment and a celebration of her life. MATHESON - Olive (nee Hardie) Matheson passed away Sunday, October 26, 2003. Olive was born October 26, 1917 at Dafoe SK to Bill & Lydia Hardie. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford; parents; son, Peter; brothers, Alex, Bill and Willis, who was killed in World War II; her mother and her father. Surviving are her sons Leonard (Saskatoon), Gary (BC); grandchildren; sisters, Irene, Jean and Maybelle; brothers, Clarence and Ronald; nieces and nephews and special friends. The passing of William "Bill " McCaig, age 76 years of Saskatoon, occurred at St. Paul' Hospital on Saturday, April 21, 2007. His is survived by his loving wife, Mildred; children, Kim (Deborah) McCaig, Calgary, AB, Rick (Laurette) McCaig, Saskatoon, SK, Valerie McCaig, Saskatoon, SK, Debra (Brian) Eskra, Saskatoon, SK, Ian (Cathy) McCaig, Loon Lake, SK; grandchildren, Matthew (Christine), Kendall (Fiancee Steven), Michael (Fiancee MarieClaude), Kelly, Scott, Jamie, Terry, Amber, Coral and Kyle; two brothers, Bruce (Joyce) McCaig, Bauser, BC, Mac (Phyllis) McCaig, Kenaston, SK; sister, Jerry Edison, Dafoe, SK; numerous nieces and nephews. Bill is predeceased by his grandson, Gordie and brother, Gordon. Bill (Willy) started to work as a farm hand immediately after completing school in the Dafoe area. Afterward, Bill started to drive semi's in the 1950's, which he continued to do for the rest of his life. Bill loved to drive and was most happy when he was behind the wheel traveling the country. His other passion was working on automobiles and thus he became a top notch mechanic, his garage would attest to this passion. Burial of cremated remains will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. MEBS - Joan Elizabeth Anne "Betty" (nee Brooks). Betty was born at her "Brookland Home" near Dafoe, SK on October 7, 1927. She passed away peacefully and entered Heaven's Gates on July 11, 2015. Betty was predeceased by her husband Wilbert Alvin Mebs in April of 1999. She is survived by her children Joann (Andy) Idema, Arlie (June) Mebs and Faye (Marty) Matthews. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Scott Hanaback, Megan (Aaron) Marshall, Tom Mebs, Lori-lynn (Charles) Brehaut, Crystal (Kyle) Hebert, Shauna-lee (Corey Chambers), and Stacey (Devan Brandon) Matthews. Betty also has seven great-grandchildren: Carter Mebs; Avrielle, Alexia and Austynn Brehaut; Hunter and Kruz Hebert; and Sophie Matthews. Betty followed her true calling into nursing and graduated from the Regina Grey Nuns Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She was awarded a proficiency medal for devotion to patients upon her graduation. She managed to juggle her love of nursing with being a farmer's wife and mother. She loved having a full and bustling home filled with food, love and laughter, surrounded by her family and friends. She had numerous other joys in her life such as gardening, sewing, cooking, baking, cutting the grass on her John Deere tractor and burning the garbage. An informal Celebration of Betty's Life will be held on August 15, 2015 at the Broadview Senior Citizens Happy Hours Club from 2:00 p.m. � 4:00 p.m. REMENDA - Ethel Remenda July 30, 1921 August 11, 2006. Ethel died peacefully in her sleep with family by her side in St. Paul's Hospital at 8:00 a.m. on August 11th, 2006 after a short fight with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband, Mike; her parents, Agnes and Malcolm Hardie; and five siblings. She will be sadly missed by four daughters, Berniece (Ray), Carolanne (Bill), Susan (Ron) and Sharon; and one son, Len (Sadie) and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Ethel was born and raised on a farm near Dafoe Saskatchewan and loved family and music and played violin and guitar in a family country band before settling and marrying in Saskatoon in 1943. Ethel was a hard worker and a very dedicated mother, caring for her handicapped daughter Sharon right until the end. She continued to be an active member of the Salvation Army Church and Community Centre. In her younger days she loved to dance and often went with friends to the Legion to enjoy the music. Over the years she would often be found baking apple pies, bowling or tending her garden. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of her family and many close friends. Services will be handled by Saskatoon Funeral Home and held at Salvation Army Temple, Bateman Crescent. on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. SHIPMAN - Leonard Shipman was born on the family farm near Copeland, Saskatchewan on January 22, 1915. He passed away at Melfort Hospital on August 13, 2005 at the age of 90 years. Leonard took his schooling at Copeland School and after that worked on the family farm for many years. In 1941 he moved to Melfort and worked for Cliff Whiting. After that he worked as a carpenter's helper and general labourer. In 1979 he moved into Diefenbaker Towers. He enjoyed fishing and riding his bicycle and could be seen around Melfort everyday. He also enjoyed shuffleboard and won many prizes at this. He had many nieces and nephews who were very fond of him. Leonard was predeceased by his parents Tom and Jean Shipman, two brothers Don and George, two sisters Flora and Gertrude, and a nephew Albert Shipman. He is survived by one brother Bill (Jeanne) Shipman of Raymore, SK, two sisters Jean Bell of Penticton, BC, and Edith Blackwell of Santa Rosa, California, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. A Graveside Memorial Service for Leonard will held at a later date in the St. Mary's Anglican Church Cemetery, Copeland, Saskatchewan. TRAQUAIR - Audrey (nee Dolan) passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at the age of 85 years. She was predeceased by her husband Ian; baby daughter Jean and brother Kenneth. Audrey is survived by her children Keith (Tessa) of Dickinson, ND, Marion (Sidney) Bowles of Pilot Butte, SK, Glen (Lillian) of Red Deer, AB and Colin (Joelle Cyr) of Casselman, ON; grandchildren Kia (Ryan) Frey, Brooke, Lawren and Conor Bowles, Derek, Adrianna, Brianna and Kristopher Traquair; brother Keith (Hannah) Dolan and sister-in-law Dorothy Revell. Audrey was born in Windsor, ON, where she grew up and was educated. She served in the RCAF (Women's Division) 1943-1946, achieving rank of Corporal. She met Ian Traquair in 1943 while on leave from the Air Forces and they were married in Saskatoon in 1946. After living on the family farm near Dafoe, Ian joined the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, moving the family to Melfort, Saskatoon, Rosetown, eventually settling in Regina. Audrey worked for the Museum of Natural History (now the Royal Saskatchewan Museum) for 15 years, becoming involved with the Whooping Crane Conservation Association. She authored a much-coveted and well-used family cookbook. Audrey was very keen and diligent about maintaining family bonds and had a great interest in genealogy, nature, bird watching and music. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Charlotte Lathrope; husband James (Jim) Traquair; sisters Mary (Frank) Beatty, Hilda (Jack) Hyde, Amy (Gordon) McKenzie, Netta (Stan) Price; brothers Jack Lathrope and Charles (Doris) Lathrope. Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Charlene (Ronald) Wurm of Regina and Kerry Hubick of Esterhazy; grandchildren Darrell (Crystal) Wurm, Michael (Tasha) Wurm, Kristen Wurm of Regina, Lisa (Clayton) Sabo of Yorkton; great grandchildren Eric, Joel and Alex Wurm, Mikayla and Braden Sabo; sister-in-law Anne Lathrope of Saskatoon; numerous special nieces and nephews; and friend of the family Don Ross. Dorothy was born on December 18, 1916 in Shoal Lake, Manitoba. She enjoyed her large family, church choirs and competitive tennis matches. Throughout the years she was employed as a telephone operator, hairdresser and secretary. Dorothy met Jim in 1953. They were married and she enjoyed raising her two daughters on the farm in Dafoe, SK. In 1975, Jim and Dorothy retired north of Regina, building a family home. After Jim's passing, Dorothy moved to Regina enjoying years spent with family, friends and grandchildren. She moved to Regina Pioneer Village where she enjoyed the music and events provided. She also cherished her regular Sunday visits with special friend, Don Ross. The family would like to thank the staff at Pioneer Village and her long-time doctor Theresa Bradel for their exceptional care. On Monday, July 14, 2003, James Ian Traquair, born November 30, 1920 on the family farm at Dafoe, Saskatchewan, passed away at the age of 82 years. Predeceased by his parents William and Agnes (Adams) Traquair and sister Elizabeth, he is survived by his wife Audrey (Dolan); sister Dorothy; children Keith (Tessa), Marion (Sid), Glen (Lillian) and Colin (Joelle), and grandchildren Kia, Brooke, Lawren, Conor, Derek, Adrianna, Brianna, and Christopher. Born to Scottish homesteaders William and Agnes Traquair, he lived on the family farm until joining the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941. He flew with the RCAF and the Royal Air Force overseas in the Middle East, North Africa, Italy, Burma and South East Asia. He married Audrey Dolan in 1946, and together they operated the family farm until 1956 when Ian joined the field staff of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. He had great respect for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, where he worked for thirty years. Ian was involved with adult educational programs and community development, and travelled widely throughout North America and Europe focusing on consumer and marketing co-operatives. He had a great love for music and the creative spirit, great respect for all living creatures, and his life's example taught us all so much about the importance of personal values and respect for others. Interment in Copeland Cemetery, Dafoe, SK at a later date. WALLACE - Thomas Glen Edward 'Ted' (1926 - 2009). It is with sadness that the family of Ted Wallace announces his passing. Ted passed away at RUH on November 21, 2009 at the age of 83 years. Ted leaves to mourn his wife of 48 years, Helen Wallace; daughter, Brenda and husband, Don Reiter; grandchildren, Kyle and Kimberley Reiter; son, Neil Wallace and wife, Marie; brother-in-law, Roger Stacy and wife, Maureen. Ted was born and raised in the Dafoe area and was a farmer and beekeeper until he and Helen retired to Saskatoon in 1994. Upon graduation from high school, Ted enlisted in the army during World War II and was a legion member. After WWII at the age of nineteen, Ted left the army and briefly enrolled in the College of Agriculture in Saskatoon until the death of his father required him to assume responsibility for the farm. During his life, Ted also enjoyed woodworking, cross-country skiing, dancing, golf and curling. Ted and Helen were active members of the vibrant FooteCopeland community. After their retirement to Saskatoon, Ted became an enthusiastic participant in the Coronary Artery Rehabilitation Group (CARG) Program. He has met many friends at CARG and was extremely grateful to the staff and program. ZERBIN - Herbert Zerbin, 80 years of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Herbert was born on July 31, 1932 at home on the farm in the Dafoe district to Phillip and Julianna (nee Schuman) Zerbin. He grew up on the farm and attended Dafoe School. Following his education, he began his lifelong farming career by helping on the family�s mixed farming operation. On October 30, 1958, Herbert married Irma Zerbin, his brother Albert�s widow. Irma had two young sons, whom Herbert became a father to and together they had a daughter to complete their family. In 1977, they moved to Humboldt although Herbert continued to farm with Garth for the next 30 years, making many trips from Humboldt to the farm. Farming was Herbert's life, leaving little time for other hobbies and interests; however, he and Irma did find time to do some travelling. In 2007, he suffered a stroke which left him needing continuous medical care and he became a resident of St. Mary�s Villa, which was his home until the present. Herbert will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Irma Zerbin of Humboldt; daughter, Coleen (Patrick) Lueke and children Blaine and Dylan, all of Princeton, BC; two step-sons: Garth (Cynthia) Zerbin of Jansen and family Garnet Zerbin and children Gabriel and McKenzie of Jansen, Melissa (Shawn) Wolfe and children Renee and Dalton of Drake, Morley (Stephanie) Zerbin and daughter Kaitlyn of Humboldt, and Matthew (Carmilla) Zerbin of Blaine Lake, SK; and Marvin (Vivian) Zerbin of Young and family Terry (Debbie) Zerbin and children Devin, Kyla, Rebecca and Trista of Saskatoon and Monica Zerbin of Saskatoon; one sister, Irma Cappelle of Moose Jaw and by numerous nieces and nephews.
