AMBROSE - Muriel Mary Ellen (nee Bryan) of Pioneer Lodge Moose Jaw, Sask.(formerly of Aylesbury, Sask.) age 81 years passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 25th, 2001 at her residence. Muriel was predeceased by her parents, Jesse Frank & Emma Bryan; her loving husband Victor and two sons, Clint & Doug. ANNIS - Ethey Lucretia (nee Strange) of Craik, Sask., age 93 years passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8th, 2002 at the Craik & District Health Care Center, Craik, Sask. ARCHIBALD - Eldon Lewis Archibald of Craik, Sask. age 82 years, passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 9th, 2010 at the Davidson & District Health Care Centre. Eldon is survived by his loving family: wife Jean, daughters Janice, Shirley, Brenda, June, Cathy, Heather and Bev; and son Jim and their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Interment Family Plot Craik Cemetery, Craik, Sask. ARCHIBALD - Marie (nee Bryksa) passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 5, 2009 at the Craik and District Health Care Centre. Marie was born on April 4, 1923 to John and Anna Bryksa at the family farm, located near WestBend, SK. Marie received her education at Horse Lake School. On July 6, 1945 Marie married Willard Archibald and they shared 54 years and 4 beautiful children together. Her passions were gardening, canning, knitting, baking, children and grandchildren. Willard and Marie enjoyed yearly vacations out West to visit their boys and fishing trips with family. There was always a pot of coffee and a plate of baking ready for any family that was passing by. Marie's grandchildren adored her dearly and took daily bike rides down the road for a little visit and a tasty treat. She was a member of Orange Lodge and a left-handed curling skip. Marie was an avid baseball player in her younger days which she passed along to her sons and grandsons and even had the glory to watch her grandson win provincials back home in Foam lake, SK. Many days and nights were spent at the rink or baseball fields and they travelled from Craik to the West Coast to watch. When the garden became too big to handle, her and Val filled her deck with pots and plants, took garden tours at Val's and would watch the birds feed from the patio window. A family meal was never complete without her famous buns and cabbage rolls. Marie was predeceased by her husband, Willard Archibald on November 7, 1999 and her parents, John and Anna Byrksa. Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life; her daughter, Valerie (Jerry) Dulle; three sons, Melvin, Lyle (Carol) and Howie, as well as ten grandchildren, Shelley (Jeff Brayer), Corinne, Lee-Anne, Jesse, Corey, Tammy, Kris (Leanne), Kurtis, Jinelle and Kenton; nine great grandchildren, Kyle, Kaitlyn, Jacob, Belle, Kadence, Lucas, Robyn, Brendan and Ryan; Brothers, Meril (Jeanette), Mike (Gail), Don (Eileen); Sister, Adele (Hal Peterson); Brother and Sister-in-laws, Eldon (Jean) Archibald, and Loretta Archibald. And numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. A family service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2009. ARNOLD - Daisy Belle (nee Lambert) Arnold, late of of Biggar, SK, formerly of Weyburn, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at the age of 98 years. Daisy was born to William and Emily Lambert in Pecatonica, Illinois, April 25, 1912. At the age of two she moved with the family to Craik, SK, where her parents continued farming. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers (Leroy, William, Paul, Earl, and Harold), and sisters (Maude, Berniece, Bertha, Edith, Ruth, Viola and Violet), as well as her husband, Alfred (Ben) Arnold. She is survived by her son Ron (Ruth), two grandchildren David (Shawna) Arnold and Paula (Tim) Bowman, and four great grandchildren, Damian Saliken, Noah Arnold, Melena Bowman and Nash Bowman, together with many nieces and nephews. Daisy received her education at Craik and attended Normal School in Regina where she obtained her teaching certificate in June of 1931. She taught school in various country schools prior to her marriage to Ben in 1941. On Ben��s illness she returned to teaching in 1952 in Lampman and in 1956 in Weyburn, retiring in 1977. Daisy enjoyed retirement with travel, visiting her son and family, and spending many hours playing scrabble, reading and studying the bible. A major retirement experience for Daisy was to travel to California to visit her brothers (Leroy and Harold). She also got a great deal of pleasure when meeting her former students and watching their various activities. She resided in Weyburn until her health necessitated a move to Biggar in 2001. After spending one year in the Sunshine Care Home, she was a resident of Diamond Lodge Nursing Home in Biggar since 2002. A funeral service was held on Friday, December 31 from Fletcher Funeral Chapels, Weyburn at 2:30 pm with Pastor Scott Wade officiating. Interment to followed in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. ATKINSON - Ross Winston Atkinson passed away peacefully at the Nanaimo General Hospital on January 9, 2002 at the age of 83, following a stroke. Predeceased by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law Pat (Garth) Dalton, brother Ivan and stepson Russ Sutor. Ross, survived by his wife Anetta, sons Gerry (Doreen) of Lethbridge, Brian (Jan) of Regina, daughter Pat (Reg O'Brien) of Calgary, stepdaughter Dianne (Butch) Lasek and stepson Don (Patti) Sutor of Regina, as well as sister-in-law Maxine Atkinson also of Regina. Ross had nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ross was born in Craik, Saskatchewan on August 26, 1918. He resided in Moose Jaw until 1971, then moved to Regina and Belle Plaine where he continued to work and farm until he retired in 1980. In 1984 they moved to Nanaimo. Ross enjoyed life to the fullest and will be sadly missed by family & friends. There will be no services at his request. BAKKEN - Conrad, May 10, 1915 - June 18, 2005. Conrad passed away on June 18, 2005 at the Craik & District Health Care centre. He will be remembered by his children, Ronnie (Sharon) Bakken, Raymond Bakken, Myrna (Rodney) Jones, Murray (Mary-Jo) Bakken; 10 grandchildren; 6 greatgrandchildren. Also surviving is one sister Winnie Daye; sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at the Craik Cemetery on June 25, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. BAKKEN - Mildred, June 18, 1919 - March 23, 2005. Mildred passed away on March 23, 2005 at the Craik & District Health Care Centre after a lengthy illness of Alzheimer. She will be remembered by her husband, Conrad Bakken; children, Ronnie (Sharon) Bakken, Raymond Bakken, Myrna (Rodney) Jones, Murray (Mary-Jo) Bakken; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters Eunice Truber and Erma Tangen; sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews. After Ron's strong will and determination to fight his battle, it is with great sadness that we announce his passing on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at the age of 63 years. BISSON - Jason (1968 - 2012). It is with extreme sadness, and broken hearts, that we announce the sudden passing of Jason on June 3rd, 2012 at the age of 43. He leaves behind his wife Diana and children Courtney, Jordan, Kylie and Jeremy. Parents Merle and Bertha, sister Michelle (Curtis) Marcenko; children George, Zane and Jill, in-laws Harold and Helen Ehman, brother in-law Les (Dianne) Ehman and sister in-law Donna Selinger; children Ricki, Randall and Brooklyn, special cousin Chris (Erin) Stephens; children Morgan and Dalton, many aunts, uncles and cousins as well as countless friends. Jason's greatest passion was farming with his dad and cousin Chris and spending all his free time with his children by watching or coaching their various sporting events. BOYCE - David Gibson passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2009 at the age of 84. Dave farmed and resided in Craik for most of his life, and then moved to Saskatoon in 2003. BRANDVOLD - William Earl Brandvold, of Davidson and formerly of Craik, Central Butte and Asquith, SK, passed away unexpectedly on December 9, 2007, after acquiring a strep infection following back surgery at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Earl was born on September 9, 1925 at Asquith. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Lillian Brandvold; sister, Lorraine Lalonde and brother-in-law, Raoul Lalonde; and father-inlaw, Cecil Gordon. Earl worked hard all his life. At age nine years old he was driving horses to haul oat sheaves; later he repaired grain elevators, hauled gravel and had a mixed grain and cattle farm. in 1963, they moved to Central Butte where he owned and operated Earl's I.G.A and a construction company. He built many homes and hand crafted cabinets in that area. He moved his construction business to Craik and also began to collect antiques from auctions. Dad loved auctions, yard work on the acreage, dancing with mom, refurbishing antique tractors and trucks, but especially listening to the family tell stories and laughing at the grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. On Friday, August 1, 2008, Beth (Elizabeth) passed away peacefully at her home in Craik, SK, at the age of 87. She leaves to celebrate and cherish her memory, her loving daughter, Jeannette Brooks. Beth was predeceased by her first husband, Henry Roemer in July 1964. In June 1967, Beth remarried to Harold Brooks, until his passing in March 1994. Beth also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends, young and old. As per Beth's wishes, there will be no funeral. A private interment will be held at a later date. Beth had a great sense of humour. Please remember Beth with a smile, not a tear. BYGGDIN - Henry Wallace Byggdin (August 24, 1917 - November 16, 2007). Much loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, pastor and friend, Wallace is now residing with his eternal Lord and Saviour, free at last from the restrictions and limitations of his earthly body. Wallace was predeceased by his parents John and Nellie, brothers Merle and Ernie and son Ross. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Beth) of 63 years, his brother Ralph (Joyce), sister Lucille, daughters Sharon (Glen) and Shelley (Jack), son Brent (Ellen), grandchildren Jon, Leah (Tim), Sarah, Jordan, Keanan, Justin and one great granddaughter, Jadrianne. He also leaves to celebrate and remember his life several brothers in law, sisters in law, numerous nieces and nephews and many church and family friends. Wallace was born in Craik, SK., the third child and son of John and Nellie. He and his brothers and sister spent many hardworking but carefree days growing up in challenging times; yet, in spite of, or perhaps in part because of, this environment, they all developed a keen zest for life, perseverance, tolerance and fun. These attributes served Wallace well to his final heartbeat and breath. As a young man, Wallace honed his farming skills in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, until his strong and definitive life changing call to the ministry in his mid twenties. While on a ministerial (or so he claimed) related call early in his ministry, he noticed and was subsequently noticed by a beautiful farmer's daughter and young Saskatoon School for the Deaf teacher who was home for the Victoria Day weekend in May 1942. Initially she was not overly impressed to arrive home looking forward to sharing a few days with her parents and siblings, only to find she would have to share the family farm home with an itinerant preacher and his two young ministerial assistants, one of whom was Wallace. Notwithstanding this rather shaky start to a romance spanning 65 years in total, he persevered with the courtship and was rewarded with her hand in marriage on July 12, 1944 in her parents' (George and Eleanor Evans) farm home near Davis, SK. Wallace's ministry and labour of love for the Lord spanned 37 years, nine churches, three provinces and one denomination (Free Methodist Church). His longest pastorate was in Melfort, SK, where he touched and was touched by the lives of many special parishioners, friends and neighbours, including his next door neighbour's son and future son-in-law, whom he had the privilege of leading to the Lord. On retiring from active ministry in 1983, he and Beth moved to Moose Jaw, SK, where he continued to serve as the ex officio pastor of visitation at their local church, where he ministered for many more years to many of the sick and shut-ins. His kind, compassionate, gentle, caring spirit and devotion to selflessly serving the needs of his 'flock' and the local community were appreciated by all, whether family, friends or relatives. His love and devotion for the Lord held steadfast and unwavering to the end of his days and his sense of humour and love for his fellow man were two of his `cornerstone' characteristics. A celebration of Wallace's life was held Friday, November 23, 2007 at 10 AM in the Fourth Avenue Bible Church, 62 4th Av S, Niverville, MB with interment immediately following, at Hespeler Cemetery. BYGGDIN - Ralph Eugene Byggdin passed away peacefully with family at his side in Olds, AB. Sunday, October 11, 2009 in his 94th year. Much loved husband of Joyce (deceased April, 2009) for over 68 years; wonderful father to Donna Souster (Bill), Lois Cooke (Brian), Rhonda Byggdin (Elgin Eddy), and Vern Byggdin (Sandra); esteemed grandfather of eleven and great grandfather of seven; brother to Lucille Henwood (Scott), and fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents John and Nellie Byggdin and brothers Ernest, Wallace and Merle. Ralph was born in Craik June 2, 1916. Heeding the call to the ministry, he moved to Ontario to complete his education at Toronto's Lorne Park College. There Ralph met Joyce, and they were married in January 1941. The young couple moved west to Eyebrow in 1944, where they began pastoral ministry with the Free Methodist Church. Ralph served as pastor in Weyburn, Kindersley, Regina and Prince Albert, and completed his 37-year ministry on St. Joseph Island, ON in 1981. They retired to Saskatoon and Didsbury, AB; enjoyed winters at the Free Methodist Light and Life Camp in Florida; moved to Abbotsford, BC for several very enjoyable years; and finally to Olds, AB (Sunrise Village) in 2005 where Ralph continued to touch lives, as he had over his lifetime, with his quick wit, quiet strength, and kind nature. CARLSON - Cora Alice. Tuesday, September 26th, 2000, Cora Alice Carlson, late of Craik, Sask., passed away at the age of 93 years. Predeceased by her husband Gunnar, daughters Irene & Marie & four sisters. Cora is survived by her loving family: son Leonard (Helen) Carlson: daughter Leona Ewing (Garry Noble), five grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren. Two sisters, Edna Busse & Bertha Fines, also numerous nieces, nephews & other family members. CHESTER - Robert Edward Chester born January 21, 1936 to Robert Leonard and Catherine Margaret in Galt, Ontario. Robert (Bob to his friends and family) was the oldest of nine children. He moved to Craik, SK in 1958 and for the next several years worked for Art Wildfong and then Charlie Peckover while renting his Uncles Gordon's land. After several years of hard work, he purchased the land and, with a loan from Charlie, an adjoining quarter. In 1964 he purchased a half section where he lived and farmed for the next thirty years. During that time, he acquired another section of land (half of which he later sold). Bob also worked for several other farmers over the years. In 1972, Bob met and married Dorothy (Dolly) Greggains. They lived in Bob's old house until January 1980, when their new home was finished. They raised three sons, Gregg, Leonard and Robert Joseph. In 1995, Bob moved into a house in Craik and began working in Kenaston. When commuting from Craik proved too expensive, he rented a house from Reg and Joanie Zdunich, who became good friends of his and who we, his family, would like to thank for everything they did for Dad when his health began to fail. Bob left us on July 31, 2005 at 3:30 a.m. after suffering strokes in June and July. He died at Saskatoon's Royal University Hospital with his sons by his side. We will always remember the things he taught us and we will miss his goodnatured teasing and his boisterous laugh. CHORNEY - Mervin Michael Chorney of Craik, Sask., age 56 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13th 2009 at the Craik and District Health Care Center Craik, Sask. Mervin is survived by his loving partner and soul mate Marlene Stubbington and her family, Sean (Linda) Stubbington and Shayne (Michelle) Stubbington and family, Kayla Sanford & son Tavin Sanford, Kennedy Stubbington & Carter Stubbington. She is survived by her three children: Lyle of Regina, Sherry (Ken) Harvey of Fort Saskatchewan, Ab, and Brenda (Tim) Reich of Craik, Sk, seven Grandchildren and five Great Grandchildren. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Fred; her parents, Louise and Mike Meshka; sisters Ethel, Florence, Helen and Marjorie; brothers Lester, Arlo, Mike and Bill. COGSWELL - Katherine Victoria (nee Smith), On Saturday, November 2, 2002 Katherine Victoria Cogswell, late of Craik, Sask., passed away peacefully at the age of 90. She was predeceased by both parents; her husband Maurice in 1991; her sisters Helen, Liz, Theresa, Elsie; and brother Joe. She is survived by her daughters Joan (John) Schneider, Sheila (Wayne) Funk, Diane (Gary) Stavness; her grandchildren Todd, Corleen, Joni, Maureen, Paula, Carrie (Peter), and Corinne; her brother Ernie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Katie was born July 23, 1912, in Gimli, Manitoba, and moved with her parents to Craik in 1920. Katie attended Craik School. After completing high school, she went to Normal School in Regina and obtained her teacher's certificate.In 1931, Katie started teaching at the Willow Bluff School near Aylesbury, Sask. Katie married Maurice Cogswell in 1936. They farmed in the Aylesbury district from 1936 until 1938 when they moved to a farm west of Craik. They continued to farm until 1969 when they retired to the town of Craik. Katie returned to teaching in 1951 and taught at Craik School for 22 years. She was very active in the community and with St. Agnes Anglican Church. Katie spent her last years in the MidLakes Manor in Craik and enjoyed the fun and fellowship there. Interment Family Plot Craik Cemetery, Craik, Sask. CRUISE - Edward Isaac "Ike" (September 17, 1910 - May 22, 2012). Born in Craik, Sask. to Sam and Annie Cruise, Ike was the first in a family of four boys. After attending Cullyton school which was situated on the Cruise homestead quarter, Ike worked on the farm with his dad and on community threshing crews. He was interested in carpentry from an early age and his mother used her scarce resources to buy him tools. The combination of his enquiring mind and the resourcefulness required to survive early days on the prairies meant Ike could turn his hand to almost everything but he was attracted to carpentry. He farmed throughout the thirties working carpentry jobs during the off seasons. This trade took him to construction work on many local homes and businesses as well as projects like the the Balcarres Hospital and the special needs Training School in Moose Jaw. The promise of long term work on a large project took him to BC where he spent four years working on the construction of the hydro dam at Brilliant. Known widely for the quality of his work, the sharpness of his wit and his unbelievable memory, a visit with Ike always left you with some hearty chuckles, a fresh perspective on the world's problems and, more than likely, a reminder of some foible in your past that you wish he had forgotten!! He will be fondly remembered as he left a rich legacy of strong families, good work, favorite stories and many personal quips that never fail to bring a smile. Until his heart problems the first week of March, 2012, at the age of 101, Ike was living on his own in his home in Imperial, driving his truck (legally) and amazing everyone with his witty commentary and his genuine philosophy of life - genuine because he lived it. After 65 years of marriage, Ike was predeceased by his wife Lyda in 1996, two brothers George (2001) and Fred (2009) and sister-in-law Mildred (2010). He is lovingly remembered by his three children: son Larry (Elaine), daughters Anne (Terry) Harrison and Sharon (Bert) Reeves. Ten grandchildren: Teresa (Melvin) Strachan, Les (Glenda) Reeves, Lori (Blair) Crawford, Rhonda (Steve) Petryk, Cheryl (Vern) Archibald, Myrna (Dean) Bittner, Michele (Dennis) Pratchler, Heather (Bill) Detwiller, Charles (Janelle) Cruise, Dwayne (Daphne) Cruise. Edna "Dickie" Dixon was born October 31, 1917. She passed away March 29, 2012 at the Craik Health Centre where she had resided for six years. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Matilda; sisters Violet, Edith and Alice; brothers Ernest, Clayton and Stewart; brother-in-law Glenn Ross and sister-in-law Edith Dixon. She is survived by daughter Cathy (Bill Joplin) and family, sister Laura and brother Bob (Pauline) as well as several nieces and nephews and their families. Edna received her education at Erie School and upon completion she worked for several area families and one year for an American dog trainer, Mr. Redman. In 1941 she became a waitress with the family owned Wares Cafe. Later for a number of other proprietors in what became known as the Craik Cafe. She returned home to help her mom in the late 50's and remained there until entering the health centre. The last 33 years, before entering the health centre, she spent alone with her black labs. She spent many happy hours with them, wandering the hills and fields around home, her picking flowers and plants which she would press and dry and make into beautiful cards and note paper. What she did she did with great pride, be it the cards, embroidery, sewing or washing and ironing, even if it was the boys work clothes. We would like to sincerely thank and will be ever grateful to neighbours, friends and family for all their help, which allowed her to remain where she loved to be, the family farm. DIXON - Ernest John Walkerd Dixon was born July 3, 1921 on their farm two miles east of Craik. He received his education at Erie School. Farmed with his Dad until 1942, when he joined the Armed Forces. He married Edith Muriel Reynoldson in 1945. Farmed in the Rosehill district, worked for the CN, drove the school bus for many years, he also worked at the Co-op Service Station in Craik. He enjoyed beekeeping, watch making, hockey and reciting poetry. DIXON - William Ernest "Bill" Dixon of Craik, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at the Craik & District Health Centre after a lengthy struggle with cancer. Earl Dodds passed away peacefully January 10, 2009 at Sherbrooke Nursing Home in Saskatoon. Earl is survived by his wife, Ila of sixty-six years; son, David (Erika) Dodds of Saskatoon; and grandchildren, Janis Dodds of Saskatoon and Marnie (Craig) Olson of Glasgow, Scotland and their mother, Diane Dodds of Saskatoon. He was predeceased by his parents, Winfred and Ethel; his young brother, Orville; infant grandson, Bryan Dodds; and by many close friends. He is also survived by his cousins, Ethel Wolfe, Norval Thompson, and June Fines, all in Ontario. Earl was born on December 3, 1915 at Craik, SK on a farm bordering the Skwao Valley. He attended local one-room schools, ultimately graduated from Teacher's College in Moose Jaw, then taught in one-room schools before teaching grades 7 and 8 in the town of Craik. In 1939 he joined the Canadian Forces where he became a pilot instructor for the Commonwealth Air Training Program. While stationed in Prince Albert in 1943, he married Ila Raymond, who had been a bank teller in Craik. Following the war, he worked with the provincial Department of Natural Resources as a bush pilot, conservation officer, and finally as regional supervisor. He was an accomplished carpenter, building a house in Prince Albert, a house at Green Acres, and a cottage at Emma Lake. He had a great love of music, playing the baritone with the army band and the PA city band and piano with the PA Legion singers. In retirement, he offered his services as a piano tuner. Funeral Service will be held in P.A. at Mackenzie Funeral Home on Thursday, January 15th at 11:00 a.m. and Veteran's Honours will be conferred by the Royal Canadian Legion and lunch will follow. DOLMAN - Morris, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the age of 69 years following a dementia related illness. He was predeceased by his father and mother Tom and Grace; brothers Willard and Lyle; and much loved daughter Michelle. Morris was born on October 27, 1938 on the family farm near Craik, SK. He attended Parkhill and Craik Schools until he left home in 1958 to attend the Saskatchewan Teachers College in Moose Jaw. In 1959 he began his teaching career in Regina. Later he received his Bachelor of Education from the Regina Campus of the University of Saskatchewan. During his 32-year career in education he actively served at the executive level of the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation and the Regina Public School Teachers Association. In retirement he became very involved in the Regina North Rotary Club and developed his interest in woodcarving. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father on May 3, 2010 at the age of 85. Dad was born on June 20, 1924. He was predeceased by his wife Freda; his parents William and Maggie Edwards; his brother Bill; sister-in-law Eunice Edwards; brother-in-law Warren Bogart; the mother of his children Sylvia and his special pet Sweet Pea. He is survived by his children Jim (Carol), Grande Prairie, AB; Tom (Robin), Saskatoon; Dennis, Craik; Sue Blight, Kelliher; Linda Edwards, Edmonton, AB. Dad was born and raised in Craik where he managed the farm after his Dad's death in 1943. He had to grow up fast as did many in those days. He eventually headed out on his own and married Sylvia Sanden in February, 1948 and together they raised five children. Unfortunately the marriage ended. Dad married Freda Storey and moved to Kisbey, SK in 1980 where he farmed until the fall of 2009. Freda passed away in 1990 and Dad later began a special relationship with Faye that has lasted until his passing. Dad loved animals and loved the land. One of his proudest achievements was that he had operated his own farm for 65 years. Dad was a man that people looked up to. He worked hard. Harder than maybe he should have not taking the doctor's advice when he was told to take it easy and let his body heal. He would say, "There's work to do and if I don't do it, who will"? ERLANDSON - Dean Arlen, October 1, 1962 - December 7, 2006. It is with great sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of Dean Arlen Erlandson, who was gathered up into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, December 7, 2006. His memory will be cherished by Connie, his loving and devoted partner of 27 years and their two sons, Everett who resides at home in Craik, and Christopher (Tracey) in Saskatoon; his two great accomplishments. Dean was born to Marvel and Arden Erlandson on October 1, 1962 in Craik, SK. He was the youngest son and much loved brother of the family. His companionship and many acts of kindness will be sadly missed by brothers, Carl (Wanda) and Mark (Meladee); sisters, Gae (Clifford Kennedy), Lorelle (Barry Will) and Norene (Rob Edwards). Dean was predeceased by his parents and grandparents. Dean was raised on the family farm, attended school in Holdfast, Penzance and Craik. His love of the land and family never wavered. He spent a few winters driving tow truck in Saskatoon and could never wait to get back to his farm in the spring. The past several years, Dean spent many winters seeking medical treatment, but with sheer determination and joy returned to farming in the spring. Thanks to the tremendous help of close family and friends, and the community at large, Dean was able to put in and take off his last crop. Dean spent many happy times camping with Connie and their sons each summer. He enjoyed coffee at the campfire with their many friends and family. Dean will greatly missed playing and watching all his nieces and nephews grow up, mostly his loving sons. The extended family of Ken and Steff Schenider, parents-inlaw will sadly miss Dean's presence on the Golf Course at Emma Lake and family functions in Craik. EXELBY - June Catherine Amy (nee Watt) of Craik, Sask. passed away on August 3, 2009 in Moose Jaw Union Hospital after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 7, 1938 on The Watt Farm near Craik, and attended Eclipse and Craik Schools. She married Howard Gerald Exelby on December 5, 1955 and they raised three children on The Exelby Farm. June moved to town in 2003. She is survived by her daughter Jo McAlpine (Nigel) of Aylesbury, SK and granddaughters Lynley and Jenny; her son John (Nancy) of Irricanna, AB and grandchildren Dan, Garnet and Whitney; her son Ray (Elaine) of Craven, SK and grandsons Andrew and Russell; and her brother Art of Craik. June is also survived by sisters-in-law Gladys Crawford, Verna Mireau, Marj MacKenzie, Dorothy Exelby, Dorothy Thompson and Doreen Gilles (George); brother-in-law Jim Exelby (Esther) and many nieces and nephews. June was predeceased by her husband Gerald, her parents Fred and Mary Watt and her brother Elwin. June had been active in The Women's Institute, 4H and was a Brownie Leader for many years. She was a long time member of The Prairie Wool Weavers. June had a great talent and enthusiasm for arts and crafts. In addition to weaving, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, pottery and ceramics, painting and cooking, among other creative pursuits. She also had an avid interest in genealogy and meticulously traced her Family's history back many generations. The immediate family will attend a graveside service at The Girvin Cemetery. EXELBY - Ross, of Moose Jaw, formerly of Craik Sask., passed away peacefully on July 29, 2007 at Pioneer Lodge, Moose Jaw Sask. Ross was born on September 21, 1932 in Craik, where he spent most of his life, until he retired to Moose Jaw in 2002. He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Nora Exelby, an infant daughter Mary, brother Gerald and many in-laws. Ross was forever a farmer, having a great interest and love in all aspects of farming. Many hours were spent studying pedigrees of harness race horses, and in the last few years Ross studied Red Angus and Black Angus Beef Cattle, which he successfully raised. His family was his pride and joy. Dorothy, Ross's wife of 50 years, sons Willie (Diane); Dan (Shannon) Dennis; and Tom, daughters, Tery (Jim) Smith; Gail (Stewart) Quinn; Margo (Paul) Rolheiser, eleven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren; five sisters and one brother, will miss him greatly. Interment at the family plot, Craik Cemetery, Craik, Sask. FEADER - Joanne "Jan" (nee Reid) passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on October 21, 2005. Jan was born on August 12, 1930 in Regina to Joe and Ruby Reid. She learned to love swimming during her childhood years at Kenosee Lake where her Dad was the park warden. Part of her high school was taken in Regina and the balance in Craik, SK where her family moved to own and operate the grocery store. While in Craik Jan met the love of her life, Bud and the two were married in 1951, residing in Saskatoon. During the next few years Jan gave birth to her four children, Jim, Judy, Don, and Debbie. In the early 1960s Jan went back to work starting at the U of S Faculty Club, then eventually to Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, and her final career move working with her long-time friend, Harwood Davies, at Davies and Breen Chartered Accountants for the last 25 years. Jan was a gifted bookkeeper and kept working part-time for Harwood right up to the time of her passing. Mom's loves in life were always her husband, her kids, her grandkids and all of their friends. Many a teenager spent a late night pondering the world, love, and life with Jan around the kitchen table or in the living room. She was a highly intelligent lady with a voracious appetite for current affairs, reading books and conversation. Animals also held a special place in her heart with a number of special family dogs and cats, and in recent years a love of birds in her backyard. Her gentle soul, caring, and positive outlook on life will stay with all of us as an enduring gift. Jan was predeceased by her husband, Garnet (Bud) in 1997. Our beloved Illa passed away peacefully, with family at her side, on September 11, 2005. She was on the eve of her 82nd birthday. Illa is survived by her devoted and loving husband Laverne, her daughter Nadeen (Bob Reist), and her sons Bruce (Peg), Dennis (Leah), and Ross (Janet). Illa was so proud of her eleven grandchildren (Kim, Joelle, Shauna, Vaughn, Kara, Kaelee, Brad, Trevor, Alisha, Riley, and Carter) and her ten greatgrandchildren (Ryan, Evan, Adam, Brittin, Madisyn, Ayva, Zach, Trinity, Keegan, and Madison). Illa was much-loved and will be missed by her large extended family and close friends. Born on a farm near Craik, Saskatchewan, Illa moved to Milestone as a young girl and made it her home for 57 years. She ran the post office. She loved to have fun with her friends. She was a wicked card player. Country music playing, she baked us fresh bread and oatmeal-date cookies, canned fruits and jams. There was always knitting and crocheting on the go. She was gentle and accepting, fiercely protective, and sassy. A lover of hot sun and blue sky, she retired to Kelowna, BC, where she and Laverne spent the past 15 years. Ron was born to Art and Elsie Goodnough in Leeds, England on June 4, 1920, moving to Saskatchewan as an infant. He was raised on the family farm in the Expanse District living there until marrying Rose Ham of Barrier Ford on Oct 28, 1947. Ron and Rose purchased the Red & White Store in Craik, SK in 1950 which they eventually converted into a family clothing store. They lived in Craik for 21 years, until 1971. Ron's first love was farming which he had been forced to leave in Southern Saskatchewan due to serious allergies. After many years of visiting the Barrier Ford Area of Saskatchewan where Rose had been raised, and finding that allergies were not present, they decided to return to farming on a small scale in 1971. They moved to Barrier Ford and remained there for 17 years. With retirement in 1988, Ron and Rose moved to Alberta to be closer to family and lived happily for 19 years before returning to Moose Jaw in 2005. Ron was active in Craik for many years on the Hospital Board, Town Council, and served his church in many roles. At 91 years of age, with a sharp mind and quick sense of humour, Ron had to move into Providence Place where he became a favorite of all the staff who considered him to be an easy-keeper. He lived his life with a deep commitment to his faith in Christ and served as a great example of a sincere and honest man. She was eager to discuss any topic. Her grandchildren appreciated her sincere, non judgmental interest in their lives and activities. In fact it was her curiosity and openness to new ideas which kept her youthful and gave her wisdom, so valued by family and friends. Wade was a gentle, kind-hearted, fun-loving man who always had a kind word for everyone. He enjoyed performing and was known widely for his passion of music and singing. His pride and joy were his 3 children and 6 grandchildren and he took every opportunity to travel and spend time with them. It is with deep regret that we announce the passing on February 21 , 2010 of our brother, Eddie Kaschl, who has entered into eternal rest. Ludwig Edward Richard Kaschl or Eddie, as he was known to many was born on January 14, 1933 at Craik, Sask, the youngest son of Karl Rudolf and Marie (nee Hortnagel). As a very young child he suffered from a mastoid ear, which required surgery. During this operation he suffered oxygen deprivation which left him mentally challenged. Eddie attended Burke School for a short time when his parents moved back to the Yorkton area. Eddie was a son, brother, and uncle to many nieces and nephews and also friend to many. He loved to walk in his early days and could be seen many times walking along Broadway out to the cemetery and even on occasion to the Yorkton Airport. He was a kind soul who always had a tale to tell. Eddie faced many challenges in his life and overcame many. He lived his life in later years in Queen Elizabeth Court and acquired life long friends there too. Larry & Phyllis Richards, his neighbor Anne Liebrecht, and the morning coffee group at Queen Elizabeth Court always watched out for Eddie. His special friend Adrienne who kept his house nice and tidy, washing clothes, as well as helping him with whatever else needed to be done. When he was able he loved to go camping with Mavis and Garry to the Lake of the Prairies and especially if he caught some fish for supper. Eddie passed away at 5:45 pm on February 21st, 2010 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre following a lengthy illness. He died peacefully at 77 years of age. Eddie is predeceased by his parents, Karl and Marie; his step mother, Anna; an infant brother; sister, Elfrieda; brother, Karl; uncles, Bill and John and sisters-in-law, Pauline and Stella . KASCHL - Meinhart Otto, or "Karl" as he was known to many in recent years, was born September 1, 1927 in Craik, Sask, the son of Karl Rudolf and Marie (nee Hortnagel) Kaschl. On April 16, 1946, at age of 18 years, he enlisted and was stationed at Calgary. While at Currie Barracks, a mortar accident sent him to hospital for two years in Colonel Belcher and Sunny Brooke Hospitals. While in rehab he found his interest in wood working and paintings. When he returned to active duty his postings were Churchill, Trenton and Bordon. In the meantime he married Shirley Claire Farren and children, Karen, Dianne and Karl Jr. were born. The couple later divorced and Karl, a full time soldier, raised the three children as a single parent. Karl was honorably discharged on April 13, 1966 and following his discharge, relocated back to his home town of Yorkton. He then married Sharelle Leslie Bayers and although this marriage ended in divorce, Karl was glad to add three more children to his family, Kevin, Tamara and Craig. Karl decided to buy his uncle��s farm near Rokeby and white farming was also employed as a full-time electrician wiring many homes and buildings in the Yorkton area. He retired from farming and moved to Saltcoats where he met and married the love of his life, Stella Cusitar. With Stella life was good and together the couple enjoyed their award winning gardens, they fished and traveled the world. Karl also was a gifted wood worker, building everything from boats, cabinetry and lawn ornaments. He was renowned for his beautiful grandfather clocks. After Stella��s passing from cancer in 1999, Karl returned to Yorkton. At this time he became friends and companion to Murial Pratt. They enjoyed dancing and also traveled. On January 1, 2008 while visiting friends in Manitoba, Karl fell down a flight of stairs and which left him a quadriplegic. As a result of his injuries Karl passed away at St. Anthony��s Hospital in Esterhazy on July 14, 2008. Karl was predeceased by his parents, Karl and Marie; step mother, Anna; and an infant brother; sister, Elfrieda; and wives, Shirley and Stella. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, special friend Murial; and his children, Karen (Wayne), Dianne, Karl (Patty), Kevin (Krish) , Tamara (Pierre) and Craig. KEARNS - Suzannah Mary (nee Kibble), late of Craik, Sk., passed away peacefully Thursday, June 16, 2005 at the age of 90 years. She was predeceased by her parents Reginald & Margaret Kibble, her husband Lawrence, sister Florence (Roy) Binkley, brother William (Grace) Kibble and a daughter Laurel in infancy. Mary lived in Craik until 2003 when she moved to Extendicare in Moose Jaw. Special thanks to all those who cared for Mary during her stay in Extendicare. During his brief retirement Bernie spent cherished times with his sons and many hours in his garage, working on cars and fixing most anything. He was a talented 'fixer', dearly known as Mr. Fix-It, and a self-taught carver. Bernie loved playing cribbage, fishing, hunting, and baseball, where he made many lasting friends. He was also a member of the Buffalo Lake Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation. Bernie was always there to lend a hand, and loved to participate in family gatherings, including his extended family in Dilke. Mom worked very hard most of her life and from a very early age, until she and Dad retired. She was an excellent cook and baker and always tried to please her family with their favorites. She always enjoyed gardening and tending to her beautiful flowers. She cared deeply about her family and always put them ahead of herself. Mom was the most special and dearest person and her family will miss her so very much. Her two great grandsons were such a great joy to her, as she was to them. During their early married days, Dan & Doreen went back to the farm in Kendal before moving to Regina where Dan managed the Met Hotel till 1967 when they moved to Earl Grey where they had purchased the Earl Grey Hotel & after a few years the family moved back to Regina where Dan worked for Nuels Petroleum & later Captial Petroleum before retiring. After Doreen's retirement, they moved back to Earl Grey till Dan suffered a stroke & lived at Pioneer Village for the last four years. Daniel loved gardening & flowers & every year he & Doreen spent many hours planting & weeding & he was especially proud of growing some of the largest tomatoes available. The family wishes to thank he staff at Regina Pioneer Village for the excellent & kind care that Dan received & especially to his nurse & friend Fawna Schuster who was with him at the start of his new journey. On Sunday, February 16, 2003 Barbara passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 97 years. She was predeceased by her parents George and Margaret Gardner; her husband Roy in 1955; four sisters; and two brothers. She is survived by two daughters Doreen (Angus) Kennedy of Holdfast, Linda (Richard) Zurowski of Regina; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews; a sister Geneva Selinger of Regina; and brother-in-law George Metz of Dilke. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of William Booth Special Care Home, 50 Angus Road. McALPINE - Neil was born in Craik on Valentine's day, 1918 and passed away in Craik on Sunday, November 7, 2004. He was the second of four children with Maxine (d-1917), Ruth and Lloyd (d-1949), born to Duncan (d-1964) and Elspeth McAlpine (d-1975). They lived in Craik until Neil was in grade 8. At this time they moved to Neil's Uncle Malcom's farm east of Aylesbury. He finished school in Aylesbury and worked for his dad and neighbours until he enlisted in the army in 1941. Neil served with VIII Recce (14th Canadian Hussars) in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was very proud of his time in action and made many lifelong friends during those years. After his discharge in 1946 he returned to work with his dad, repairing elevators for Western Grain (later Pioneer) all over the prairies. After the death of his brother, he started farming north of Aylesbury. Neil met and married Jean in 1952, had 2 sons Len, Nigel (Jo) and the pride of his later years, 2 granddaughters, Lynley and Jenny. He turned the farming operation over to Len and helped on the farm until Jean and Neil moved to Craik in 2000. Neil was always quick to help at family and community projects or give a hand to a neighbour, without expecting anything in return. He was the second of four generations of Saskatchewan Roughrider fans and enjoyed golfing and curling. The highlight of his curling was in 1979 representing Saskatchewan in the Canadian Legion Senior Playoffs in Woodbridge, Ont., throwing lead rocks. Neil spent much of his spare time reading or watching any type of sports on TV. He especially enjoyed visiting with family and old friends. Neil enjoyed good health until the last few months. He moved into the Craik and District Health Centre, where he was very appreciative of the care he received from the kind and capable people there. Neil requested cremation and no funeral. Interment in the Aylesbury Cemetery will be at a later date. McCAW - Edith (nee Holmes), February 26, 1922 - November 30, 2003. Edith McCaw of Craik, SK, passed away into the Lord's hands on Sunday, November 30, 2003. She was born in Kilmor, Longford, Ireland. Edith was trained as a nurse in Bethnell Green Hospital in London, England, returning as a graduate to the Bagot St. Hospital in Dublin. She met her future husband, Dr. John McCaw. Following John's service with the Australian Navy, they set up a general practice in Southern Cross West Australia. After the infant death of their son, Douglas they immigrated to Canada in 1954. Edith supported John's medical practice until their retirement in 1993. Edith was predeceased by her son, Douglas; siblings, Susan, William, Tom, Richard and David Holmes and Elizabeth Uprichard (sister). On March 30, 2008, Dr. John McCaw (formerly of Craik, SK) passed away in Edmonton, AB. John trained as a Physician and Surgeon in Trinity College Dublin. After traveling and living in Dublin, New Guinea and Australia, John and Edie arrived to set up practice in Craik in 1954, where John remained the community doctor for almost 40 years. John has lived for the past four years in Edmonton with daughter Maureen, spending considerable time with Dermot and his family. Live-in caregiver Janny Dulku provided nurturing, caring and friendship, always with a sense of humor, allowing John to maintain an independent lifestyle. John suffered a stroke on March 23rd and died on Sunday, March 30th. John is survived by sister, Peggy MacKay, Northern Ireland; son, Brian (Joane) and grandson Patric; daughter, Maureen (Sandy) and grandson Daniel; son, Dermot (Carmela) and grandsons Alexander and Delainey; nephews, Alan, David, Samuel and William; and nieces, Dorothy, Hazel, Edith and Elizabeth; as well as a number of additional relatives in Ireland and an abundance of friends and former patients. John was predeceased in 2003 by wife of 44 years, Edith; and by infant son, Douglas. A celebration of John's life will be held at the Craik Legion Hall on May 3, 2008. Alta passed away at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her husband, Ted McDonald; four brothers and their wives, Norman, Fred (Muriel), Ray (Bev) and Harold (Betty); sister Eddie (Ray) Plourde; brother-in-law Bus Story and sister-in-law Doris (Bob) Lowrey. Alta will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Beth (Brian) Gaffney and their children, David (Teresa) Gaffney, Tricia (Jason) Scott and Erin (Ryan) Spanier and great-grandchildren, Luca and Dante Gaffney, Hannah and Carter Scott, and Liam and Ethan Spanier; her son Bob (Maureen) McDonald; sisters Burna Story and Gloria (Chuck) Reid; brother Gerry (Frances) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alta was born and raised in Craik, Saskatchewan and later moved to Moose Jaw where she worked for Dr. Fraser Muirhead as his nurse. She met her husband in Moose Jaw and after their marriage they moved to Aneroid, Saskatchewan where he ran the family drugstore and she became a wife, mother and homemaker. They eventually moved to Regina and made a home there and had their second child. Once their children left home, Alta and Ted moved to Kingston, Ontario where they resided for 20 years, finally moving to Saskatoon to be closer to family. When Ted passed away, Mom decided to move to Regina and this is where she stayed until her passing. Her passions in life were her home, cooking and her flowers. No one could do it better than her (or so she said). She really enjoyed living at the Bentley on Hill where she made numerous friends and was always busy. Thanks to the staff and the residents for making her final years so enjoyable. A private family service will be held at a later date. McEACHERN - Emma (nee Miller) McEachern, August 6th, 1916 to September 30, 2000. On September 30th, 2000, Emma passed away peacefully at the age of 84. Emma was born in Winnipeg, and then moved to reside in Craik. She was predeceased by her husband Gilbert McEachern; parents Alexander and Katherine; brothers, Henry and Alex; sisters, Mary, Molly and Katie; sisters-in-law Ida and Lydia; brothers-in-law, Reg, Bruce and John; son-in-law, Dennis. McGINLEY - Garnet Melvin Theodore "Mac" passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon at the age of 72. Mac was born March 27, 1937, the only son of Melvin and Verna McGinley of Prescott, Ontario. Mac will be cherished as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife, Carole of Saskatoon; his children, Michael (Victoria) McGinley and Erin (Stewart) Taylor; his grandsons, Jack, Patrick, Kieran and Duncan; and his sisters, Dorothy Petriw, Janet (Ian) Sinclair and Sue (Ted Henderson) McGinley. Mac was born in Prescott, Ontario where he was active in school sports, army cadets and the militia. In 1957 he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. After completing Basic Training in Regina, SK and Equitation Training in Rockliffe, ON, he was posted to Saskatchewan, serving in Rosetown, Eston, Saskatoon, Turtleford, Regina and Prince Albert. Mac married Carole McMillan of Craik, SK in Saskatoon in 1963. In 1982, he retired from the RCMP as a Staff Sergeant in Saskatoon where he became an administrator for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan. Mac worked for the College until 1995. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at St. Paul's Hospital for the care and compassion for Mac in his final days. McLAREN - Dorothy May (1920 - 2013). Dorothy May McLaren of Davidson SK, and formerly of Craik and Girvin SK, aged 92 years passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Davidson & District Health Care Centre. Dorothy is survived by her loving family: daughter-in-law Sharon; son Larry; daughters Betty, Donna (Gerry) Meshka; son Doug (Cindy) and numerous grand and great-grand children. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents David and Euphemia Low, husband Peter, son Jim and brothers, sisters and in-laws. McMILLAN - Ivan McMillan, 91 died peacefully at the Craik & District Health Care Center on Monday, February 25th, 2002 after a long well-lived life. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Myrtle (nee Hill); four children - Carole (Mac) McGinley, Joan Sandomirsky, Dawn (Donald) MacTavish and Bob (Linda) McMillan; seven grandchildren - Michael (Victoria), Erin, Kerry (Kevin), Jon (Jessica), Kevin, Lesley (Max), Nancy (Duane) and eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Ethel and brother Gordon. Ivan was the eldest son of Charles McMillan, a pioneer farmer and horse breeder of the Craik district. After working as a teacher and dairy inspector, Ivan returned to his first love, farming, in 1937. For the next 40 years the farm was an experimental sub-station, from 1946 - 50 he was also co-owner of the Craik hardware. Ivan became a prominent member of the Canadian Agricultural Industry, serving as President of the Sask. Assn. of Agricultural Societies, President of Palliser Wheat Growers, Director of the Canada Grain Council, member of the Canadian Wheat Board Advisory committee and Advisor to the Canadian Grain Commission and The Winnipeg Commodity Exchange. In 1978 he represented Canada at the International Wheat Agreement Negotiations in Geneva. Ivan's many contributions to Agriculture were recognized in 1996 when he was inducted into the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame. Ivan was an active community leader, serving as a Craik Town Councillor, First Chairman of the Davidson School Unit #31, Chairman of the Craik Memorial Rink, The Craik Hospital and Craik Memorial Hall Building Committees, and President of the Craik Agricultural Society. He was a long term member of the Board of Stewards of the United Church and a life time member and DDGM of the Masonic Lodge. A talented hockey player and curler, Ivan was a member of The Don Wilson Rink from Saskatoon that won the Canadian Senior Curling Championship in 1968. The Rink was inducted into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame in 1988. Ivan was a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose gentle wit, many talents, sterling character and love of the land, people, horses, dogs, sports, music, bridge, travel and family celebrations greatly enriched the lives of his family. The Service of Interment will follow at a later date. McMILLAN - Myrtle (nee Hill) passed away peacefully at Craik, Sask. on Friday, May 21, 2004 at the age of 96. Predeceased by her loving husband Ivan in 2002, she will be remembered with gratitude and admiration by her children Carole (Mac) McGinley, Joan Sandomirsky, Dawn (Donald) MacTavish and Bob (Linda) McMillan; her grandchildren Kerry, Jon, Michael, Erin, Kevin, Lesley and Nancy; nine great grandchildren and sisters Marguerite (Elgin) Steen. Helen (Murray) Hamilton, Joyce (Jack) Lind; brothers Gerald (Marie), Jack (Gladys), Omer (Nancy) and Max (Fay) Hill; brother-in-law Clayton Crawford. She was predeceased by sisters Marie McMinn and Roberta Crawford and brother Harry Hill. The oldest child of pioneer farmers, Robert and Laura Hill, she was an excellent student who inspired her siblings and children with her lifelong love of learning. Raised in an age when getting an education was often impossible for rural children, she worked her way through high school by living with the Pagon family in Davidson. After attending normal school in Regina, she began a thirteen year career in teaching at schools in the Davidson district, Rose Valley and Aylesbury, upgrading her qualifications by attending summer sessions at the University of Saskatchewan. Remarkably in 1936, she somehow managed to travel to Europe by ship, touring England and France as part of The Vimy Pilgrimage. After her marriage in 1940, she spent most of her life in Craik, commuting between the farm home and in the 1960's, Saskatoon. She was actively involved in the creation and support of the many organizations that made prairie towns so vibrant in their "heyday ". Homemakers, Women's Institute, United Church Women, 4-H Homecraft Club, Library Board, Prairie History Room, Curling Club, Figure Skating Club, Craik Band, she was a life member of The Order of The Eastern Star and was particularly proud of her membership in The Prairie Wool Weavers, a group of local weavers dedicated to preserving and developing this traditional art form. Like so many of her generation, she embodied the values of hard work, thrift, selfreliance, and resourcefulness that made pioneer life possible. With typical fortitude she was able to live in her own home, until last fall, when she was welcomed into the private care home of Cheryl Sweet and Gary Gilbertson of Craik. Her family will be forever grateful for the exemplary kindness and care she received in their home. She left us a rich legacy of personal and pioneer history in her journals, essays and responses to her many letters to a Canadawide web of friends and relations. Ken Powers officiating. Interment family plot, Craik Cemetery, Craik, Sask. McMILLAN - Robert Charles (June 24, 1946 � November 20, 2015). Bob passed away peacefully at home with his best friend and wife, Linda and his cherished daughter, Nancy at his side. Bob spent his childhood growing up in Craik. The family moved to Saskatoon for a few years and Bob took his Grade 11 and 12 at Walter Murray Collegiate. Since he had a love for old cars, he thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Draggins Rod & Custom Car Club for several years. Bob worked at a couple of potash mines before returning in 1973 to Craik where his heart was, the farm. He farmed with his Dad, and eventually took over the family farm. He loved the land and loved the challenge of making most anything run. He was involved in, and enjoyed, local clubs and associations. After selling the farm in 1998, Bob worked at Moose Jaw Sash and Door for four years, commuting to work from Craik. In 2006, Bob and Linda returned to live in Saskatoon to be closer to Nancy, Duane, Brandon, and Madison. He considered Brandon and Madison to be the two perfect grandchildren and loved the time he got to spend with them, whether it was family get-togethers, road trips, or watching them in their sports or activities. Bob worked at Doepker Industries for a year and a half, and then finished his working career at his favourite place of employment, Linn Millwork, a commercial cabinet shop where the owner and staff became like family. Bob was such an easy going person, had a very quick wit, and laughter was certainly the norm. He made lifelong friends throughout his life whether it be young or old. Those left with broken hearts, but wonderful memories, are: his soulmate, Linda; daughter, Nancy (Duane), grandchildren, Brandon and Madison; sisters, Carole; Joan; Dawn (Donald); father-in-law, Frank (Grace); sister-in-law Sandi (Keith), nieces and nephews. MESHKA - Thelma Irene (nee Wood), July 23, 1919 - March 3, 2013 was the youngest of three children born to Ernest Wood & Grace (nee Mitchell). In 1944 she married William Meshka and to this union they were blessed with five children; Lorraine (John) Hall, Clifford (Myrna), Diane (Darrell) Heinen, Lloyd (Cheryl) and Barbara (Ron) Watt. She also leaves to mourn her passing 17 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law. Thelma was predeceased by her husband Bill, one grandson Trent Meshka, one sister Bernice Lear, one brother Frank Wood, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Thelma�s greatest joy was family and friends, she loved gardening and the church was also very dear to her. She was happiest when family, grandchildren and friends came to visit for a family get together or just for an afternoon. She will be dearly missed by all. MESHKE - Ruth Evelyn (nee Stone) December 10, 1925 - March 16, 2015. Ruth, the sixth child of Peter and Thea Stone of Strongfield stopped galloping to 90 on March 16, 2015 after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband Mike Meshke of Craik, Sask on January 12, 1986. Left to fight over who Mom loved best are her sons Gerry (Donna), Geoff (Val), Jim (Margo) and her daughter Jan (Ray). Leaving a void in their lives and left to reminisce are her siblings Marjorie, Jim, Maureen and many cousins. Her grandchildren, Riley, Ronna, Sean, Jaclyn, Leighton, Derek and Tyler will recall her intriguing stories, adventurous outings as well as miss her homemade cookies. There are also numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who will remember her warmly. Now gathering dust are her crossword puzzles and scrabble board, fishing rod and golf clubs, bird feeders and pickle jars, knitting needles and crochet hooks. While struggling with her pain, the doctor came in and asked Ruth, do you know where you are? Her vehement reply "It SURE isn't paradise!". She left us with a wee smile on her face. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather George Miller of Craik, Sk. He passed away Monday the 3rd of May, 2010 at the age of 96. In 1918 his family moved to Denzil, Sk. In 1926 the family moved to Craik, Sk., where they farmed. He met and married Hilda Boyce in 1946. George worked various jobs around town until 1958 he bought and operated International Harvester Dealer Ship. Later that year a fire destroyed the business and home. That led George to take his family to Regina, Sk. where he drove truck for Kearns Transport. In 1972 he moved back to Craik and worked at # 11 Farm Equipment until his retirement. George played the fiddle, self taught travelling around to country dances accompanied by Hilda playing the piano. George won numerous awards and trophies for his fiddle playing. George enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards and music. After Hilda's passing, George sold his home and moved into the Craik Manor where he resided until July 2009 when poor health made it necessary to enter the Craik & District Health Care Centre to be cared for until his passing. The family extends a special thank you to the ladies in the Craik Manor for the special attention and caring showed to George. Cremains will be intered beside wife Hilda and son Terry. MILLER - Gertrude Clarabelle "Trudy" (nee Archibald) of Calgary passed away at the age of 99 years. Trudy was born on a farm near the prairie town of Craik, Sask., the fifth of six children. She and her brothers and sisters walked 3 � miles to school and back almost every day. She continued with her daily walk right up until her 99th year. Trudy graduated from Regina Teachers College in 1932, and taught in rural schools for six years until she changed careers and graduated with a secretarial and accounting diploma in 1939, and became an instructor at Cornell College of Commerce in Regina. At the end of World War II, she moved with her husband, Leonard Miller, and her two sons to Nipawin, Saskatchewan, where she and Leonard took positions with the Nipawin School Unit. They were both employed by the School Unit for over 20 years, until Leonard passed away in 1969. Trudy then completed a Certificate in Nursing Home Administration from the University of Saskatchewan and held administrator positions in Nipawin, and Quesnel, B.C. During this time she married Raymond Coleman. She retired to Surrey, B.C. where she bought a home next to her older sister Viola (Lola). Later she moved to Abbotsford then to Calgary, where Ray passed away in 1995. Her last years were spent in Royal Park Retirement Residence. During the whole of her life, Trudy was an avid learner and reader, and in her retirement she became a prolific prize-winning quilter. She possessed a robust sense of humor, and genuine wisdom about life, and how to live it day by day. She was a role model to her family and friends on aging successfully. We are sad to announce the passing of Henry James Miller "Jim", of Esterhazy, Sask., formerly of Craik, Sask. on June 14, 2014 at the age of 73 years, in Regina General Hospital. Jim was born on the family farm by Craik, Sask. He met his wife Joyce (Wood) in Moose Jaw, Sask. in 1959, and were married, October 6, 1962. He is survived by his loving wife Joyce, daughter Susan Cadotte, son Randy (Colleen), grandchildren, Sarah, Cody, Hallie and Dustin, great- grandson Oliver, and brother Harvey. The in between years were spent raising four sons. They moved to Regina in 1960 and then returned to Craik in 1972 to retire & enjoy music full time. Hilda enjoyed family get togethers, playing bingo and cards. The family extends its appreciation for the care & support to the staff of the Craik & District Health Center. MILLER - William Ramsey passed away Thursday, April 27, 2006, after a brief battle with Cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles William Small and Doris Mildred Small. Shirley was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Craik, SK. The family later moved to Lumsden and then Regina. Shirley was so kind and loving to everyone; she just had a way with people. Before marriage and family, Shirley worked at the LaSalle Hotel in Regina during the 1960��s and 1970��s. She was an avid Rider fan in the heydays of the 1966 Grey Cup win, and continued to be a Rider fan for the rest of her life. Many in Weyburn will remember Shirley for her tireless volunteering. She took on leadership roles in every activity her children were involved in. Brownie and Girl Guide leader, Home and School Association President, and Music Auxiliary President to name a few. In 2001, she and Len moved to Calgary to be closer to their children and Len took a job teaching mathematics at SAIT. Shirley often brought flowers to express her gratitude to those in healthcare who cared for her in her final years, including doctors at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and her one-in-a-million family physician Dr. Bao Nguyen in Calgary. Her family expresses their gratitude to the well-trained and caring staff at Sarcee Carewest Hospice. At Shirley`s request, no funeral service will be held. She was surrounded by her family who had supported her through a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sharon was born in Craik in 1947, the eldest daughter of Russ and Evelyn Spencer, and grew up on the family farm with her three siblings. She married her soul mate Doug in 1980 and together they raised their children Patti, Lisa, Tracy and Jeff, with much love and happiness. Sharon will be forever missed by her husband and best friend Doug, her daughters Patti, Lisa (Joe), Tracy (Greg) and son Jeff; her five special grandchildren Alex, Kaitie, Courtney, Morgan and Bryson; siblings Sandra, Gord and Wendy; many nieces and nephews; and best friend Shirley Bonic. Sharon was predeceased by her parents Russ and Evelyn Spencer in 2007 as well as her special angel, granddaughter Alyssa, in 1999. Sharon lived a life full of love, laughs and happiness, and she will continue to live on in our hearts and memories forever. A memorial service will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. MORTIN - Helen Elizabeth (nee Stanfield), formerly of Bethune, SK, died quietly at Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon on Jan. 19, age 96, after a brief illness. She was predeceased by Ernie, her husband of 69 years, in 2006 and by son David in 2004. She is survived by daughters Jean (Jenni) Mortin of Saskatoon, Linda Ferguson of Plymouth, MN, and Sharon (Jim) Jeeves of Wolseley, SK, and daughter-in-law Isabel Mortin of Calgary, AB, by seven grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren in Canada and the United States, and by sister Mearl Miller and brother Ralph Stanfield of White Rock, BC. Helen was born in Iowa in 1910 to Ralph and Cora Stanfield, who moved to Craik, SK in 1913. She attended Normal School in Regina and taught in schools in rural Saskatchewan and Manitoba before her marriage in 1936. She and Ernie lived in Dilke, SK for 29 years, where she taught music and was organist and choir director in the United Church. When they moved to Bethune in 1965, she became organist and choir director of Bethune United Church. They moved to Saskatoon in 1999. A memorial service will be held in Bethune United Church at a later date. MOYER - Lyle Sanford, March 24, 1909 - August 15, 2007. At the grand age of 98 years, Lyle died gently and in comfort with his family by his side at Mount St Mary Hospital in Victoria, BC where he had been a resident for three years. Predeceased by his wife Agnes and his brothers Keith and Bob, Lyle is survived by his three children Patricia, Mary Lou, and Gordon, and fondly remembered by his daughter-in-law Katarzyna, his grandchildren Kamille and Todd, and all of his nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Lyle was born in Jordan, Ontario where his father was a railroad telegrapher. In 1909, newborn Lyle went west with his parents Lloyd and Clara living at various locations in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Lloyd serving as a CNR station agent. In 1916, the family moved to Craik where brothers Keith and Bob were born. The Craik CNR train station was to be the family home for nearly 20 years. Lyle attended the University of Saskatchewan completing two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in business economics (May 1936), and a Bachelor of Accounting (May 1937). In July of 1937, he left a chartered accounting firm in Saskatchewan to join the staff of the Provincial Auditor. In 1942, Lyle enlisted with the RCAF attaining the rank of Flight Lieutenant, Air Navigator. Following World War II, he resumed work with the Provincial Auditor, and in 1946 assisted with setting up the Provincial Government Budget Bureau becoming one of the three original staff members. In 1947, he was appointed Chief Accountant for the Saskatchewan Liquor Board and in 1959 was appointed Chairman and General Manager of the Board serving in that capacity until his retirement in 1974. During his term as Chairman, Lyle accepted invitations to travel to England, Scotland, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Poland, South Africa, Puerto Rico and Australia where, accompanied by his wife, he toured enterprises engaged in the production and distribution of wine, beer, and spirits. He also served as President of the Canadian Association of Provincial Liquor Commissioners for two terms. Lyle had many special interests as well. He was a 32nd degree mason, Noble of the Mystic Shrine, and a member of the Wa Wa Chanters male choir. For ten years following the war, he was also a Commanding Officer of one of the Regina Air Cadet Squadrons. His memberships in other associations included the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Regina Branch of the American Federation of Musicians, and The Board of Stewards of Lakeview United Church. Among Lyle's hobbies were HAM radio (formerly VE5LW), home movie making, golf, and music. As a young man, he played in an orchestra in Craik as well as with the Follies Orchestra at the U. of S. He also played banjo and saxophone in his own band, Lyle Moyer and his Commodores. Music was to become his passion in retirement. In Regina, he formed The Dixielanders in which he played tenor banjo. On moving to Victoria, he started The Swing Time Trio playing tenor banjo and tenor sax. He went on to play saxophone in The Senior Serenaders, the Oak Bay Concert Orchestra, and the Mood Swing Orchestra. To say the least, Lyle lived a full and rewarding life. A private family gathering was held in his honour. Lyle now rests beside his wife, Agnes, at Royal Oak Burial Park, Victoria, BC. MOYER - Robert Lloyd "Bob". It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of one of Canada's finest musicians and Big Band leaders, Bob Moyer. Bob leaves his wife and partner in music Pat Steel Moyer; brother Lyle Moyer; his children Dr. William (Bill) Moyer, Doug Moyer (Sherri Wright), Karen Bash, stepchildren Greg Krause, James Steel (Tracy), Carle Steel (Richard Spafford); grandchildren Allison Sparling, Amy Moyer, Eric Moyer, John Moyer, David Bash, Jennifer Bash and Taylor Bash; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Clara Moyer, and brother and fellow musician Keith Moyer. Bob was born in Craik, Saskatchewan, the son of a CNR railroad station agent. It was there that his scientific curiosity and musical education began. Bob graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1946 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He had a distinguished 32 year career as a design engineer for the PFRA Design Division. Bob was involved in many aspects of planning and design for the South Saskatchewan River Project and was the principal design engineer for the spillway crest of the South Saskatchewan River Dam (Gardiner Dam). He was published in Transactions of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers for his study on the benefits of shelterbelts to home heating costs. One of his passions was movie making, and he received a National Film Board award for one of his many amateur movies. Bob's greatest legacy is his enormous contribution to the musical life of Saskatchewan. Through his early work as a founding member of the Hobby Band in the 1950s, his many small group performances and recordings, and his stewardship of many years of the Bob Moyer Big Band, Bob kept jazz and Big Band music alive in the province for over 50 years. He was a mentor and role model to countless young musicians who got their start in the band. Bob valued his deep friendships with fellow musicians. Throughout his musical career he provided accompaniment for numerous show greats and jazz artists, including Bob Hope, Rich Little, Rosemary Clooney, Bill Cosby, Red Skelton and Bob Newhart. He also toured with legendary Big Band king and dear friend Mart Kenney. Bob received many awards in recognition for his musical achievements and his contribution to the arts community, including the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, the inaugural Saskatchewan Jazz Festival Special Recognition Award and the 2003 Western Canadian Music Awards Heritage Award. Bob was presented with the first Lieutenant Governor's Celebration of the Arts Pin by Her Honour, Dr. Lynda Haverstock, days before his passing. He will be remembered and sorely missed for his generosity and gentleness, and as a loving husband, father, and friend. Details of an evening celebration will be announced at the service. NEWLOVE - Jean Isabel (nee Pound) passed away peacefully in Saskatoon, surrounded by family, on January 25, 2005, at the age of 93. Jean was born in Oro, ON on February 8, 1911 and moved with her family to Craik, SK, in 1918. She married John Newlove and lived in many small Saskatchewan towns prior to living in Hague from 1935 to 1964. While there, Jean owned the Arrow Cafe and later operated the Hague telephone exchange. Jean and John returned to Craik in 1964. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Mae Pound; her husband, John; daughter, Mae Dreger; and siblings, Arnold, Russell, Jack, Allan, Evelyn Evans, and Mae Baldry. She leaves to mourn sons, Charles (Gloria) and George (Barbara); and daughter, Eileen Pinder (Blair); as well as grandchildren through to great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. It is with deep sadness that the family of Edward "Tub" James Nielson, announce his passing on February 15th, 2010 at the age of 80. He will be mourned and missed forever by his devoted family. Edward was predeceased by his mother and father, and two brothers Louis and Kenneth. Ed lived in the Craik area all his life where his main passion was farming and raising Shorthorn cattle. He was never happier than spending time with his grandkids. Ed and Irene spent many enjoyable winters in Arizona. They traveled to Denmark where they were able to spend time with relatives.They also travelled to Great Britian and Spain. He loved golfing and socializing with his friends. You could always find Tub at coffee row. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his friends and neighbours. The family would like to thank the staff at 2-6 Wascana. Married Lewis Nielson March 17, 1944. She was a member of the Orange Lodge for over 50 years. She also was a member of Widow Club in Saskatoon. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Nixon, aged 94 of Craik, Sask. Doris was born on July 6, 1921 and died on Jan. 12, 2016 at the Craik Health Centre. Her son Gary and close friends were by her side at the time of her passing. Doris was predeceased by her parents Alice (Funston) Cook and Lawrence Cook; her brother Stanley and her beloved daughter Sharon (Nixon) LePoudre; husband Floyd Nixon on Dec. 31, 2001 and her son-in-law Jules LePoudre. Doris leaves to mourn her passing her son Gary; her grandsons Jeff Schindler (Cindy Nordmarken) and family; Paul LePoudre and family; granddaughter Angela (Kevin) Berglund and family, as well as friends at the Craik Health Centre and in the Craik community. Doris grew up in the Rose Hill district east of Craik where her parents farmed. She attended Rose Hill School. Doris�s grandmother Alice (Barber) Cook lived with Doris and her parents for many years and was a great influence in her life. Doris helped her parents on the farm and worked for a time as a hired girl. Doris met Floyd Nixon at a community dance when he came to Craik as part of a threshing crew in 1934. Floyd joined the army in 1940 and was posted overseas for 4 and a half years. He returned to Canada on New Year�s Eve in 1945. Doris and Floyd were married on March 27, 1946, shortly after Floyd�s return. Their daughter Sharon was born July 1, 1947 and their son Gary was born on March 4, 1953. Floyd and Doris purchased 13-23-28 W2nd through the Veterans Land Act. They also farmed the land of Daisy and Ben Arnold for 25 years. When Sharon was old enough to start school, the family moved to 11-23-28 W2nd where Gary now lives. Doris was a member of the Foxbury United Church and later joined the Craik United Church when she and Floyd moved into Craik. She was also a member of the Hospital Aid and the Craik UCW. Doris enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbours and was especially overjoyed when her grandchildren and their children came to visit. NIXON - Floyd Alfred Nixon of Craik, Sask., age 86 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 1st, 2001 at the Craik & District Health Care Center, Craik, Sask. Floyd joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1940, serving his country until the conclusion of WWII. "This "D" Day Dodger" Novel relates his experiences. Rose was born in 1911 at Vibank, Sask., to Henry and Rose Schneider. After her marriage to Harry Obrigewitsch, they farmed first near Lajord, Sask. and in 1953 moved to Craik, where they continued to farm. Rose lived in Craik until her move to Porteous Lodge in Saskatoon in 2004. Predeceased by her husband Harry in 1962, and daughter Annabelle, Rose is survived by her sister Trudi Lohnes and her sons, Lawrence (Bev), Ray (Betty), Ted (Loretta), daughter Evelyn (Karl) Bly, sons Hank (Joyce) and Tim (Darlene). Rose will be remembered with a lot of love by her sons and daughter and her 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. PALMER - William Lorne "Bill" of Moose Jaw, passed away in hospital on Thursday, July 26, 2001 at the age of 87 years. Bill was born in Craik, Saskatchewan on June 22, 1914. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers: Ray, Bruce and Jim and three sisters: Thelma, Lulu and Ruth. Bill will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Jean of sixty years (July 1, 2001), son Gerald (Eileen) and their children: Dave, Barb and Lori and son Blair (Pam) and their children: Scott and Stefanie. Bill was in sales for most of his working life and touched many lives in his travels. At the time of his passing, he was an active 45 year member of the Associated Canadian Travelers Club of Moose Jaw. Bill also was a lifetime member of the Saskatchewan Lung Association and an active member of the Hillcrest Sports Centre until the age of 85 years. PARKS - Allan Frederick passed away peacefully at the Craik & District Health Care Center, with his family by his side, on Saturday January 6th, 2001. Allan was born at Davidson on November 22nd, 1923 and raised on the family farm near Craik, Sask. He received his education at Sunkist School and worked at several jobs before becoming a carpenter in 1957 he returned to the family farm and continued his carpentry work, specializing in cabinet making, as well as farming. He continued both until 1997 when ill health forced his retirement. Allan was predeceased by his first wife Margaret in February 1957 and his father Oscar Frederick in 1987. PHILLIPS - Thelma Maude (nee Buckingham) was born in the Craik District on June 21, 1921 and passed away on June 5, 2004. In 1939 Thelma moved to Toronto. Following the war she was reunited with her childhood friend Les Phillips. The couple were married in 1948 at which time they returned to Moose Jaw. Thelma worked at the Saskatchewan Training School for 16 years holding several different positions. At the same time, Thelma was very involved with Cubs, Scouts, and Band with her son Russell. As well as with the Old Age Pensioners Organization. She retired in 1975 when she and Les left Moose Jaw to travel in their 5th wheel. The couples working years didn't stop in Moose Jaw. They worked for the next 11 years at an R.V. park in Ontario and at the Craik Regional Park. The next 27 years, Thelma and Les travelled South making their winter home in Arizona and their summer home in Craik. Thelma's hobbies included crafts, sewing, music, dancing and entertaining. Family and friends were a very important part of her life. Predeceased by her son Russell in 1965, birth mother Elizabeth Buckingham in 1926, father Bert Buckingham in 1971, mother Susan Buckingham in 1990, brother Gordon Buckingham in 1994. Predeceased by her husband, Bill Pringle, and her parents, Agnes and Terrence Garvin, five brothers and seven sisters. Kay was born in Wentworth Centre, Cumberland County, NS, on April 28, 1915, and moved the following year to Craik, SK where she lived until 1948. She later resided in Lumsden, Kindersley, Eston, and Davidson, SK, Calgary, AB, Kamloops, Port Hardy and Burnaby, BC. Mom was a proud homemaker, a devoted and doting mother and beloved grandmother, exemplifying the greatest qualities of each role. Even through the years living with Alzheimer's Mom's good humour and sweet smile graced all around her. She was famous for her hugs and kisses. Kay was a Past Worthy Matron of Eureka Chapter, OES, Davidson, SK, and a member of Adah Chapter, Kamloops, BC. She was a longtime member of the United Church, serving as Sunday School teacher, CGIT leader, and UCW member. There will be no formal service. Con was born in Holdfast, and raised in Craik before moving to Regina. He was employed with the Regina Fire Department for 37 years and operated his own building supply company for many years as well. Con was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who always put others first. Coming from a musical family, he enjoyed playing musical instruments at family gatherings. He was very creative and a talented craftsman, building detailed Roughrider birdhouses for fans across the country. His faith was very important to him, holding his rosary and praying into his final hours. Most of all, Con enjoyed his family, whom he held close to his heart and he especially cherished time with all his grandchildren. RHODES - Vernon Rhodes passed away at the Regina General Hospital on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the age of 79. ROBERTSON - Bessie Pearl (nee Markell) Robertson passed away at Providence Place, Moose Jaw, on Friday, March 11th, 2011 at the age of 90. Bessie Markell was born at the Craik Homestead on May 29th, 1920. She is predeceased by her parents, Fred and Eva Markell; her sister Helen McNutt; brothers in law Harold McNutt and John Shirran; and her husband Lloyd Robertson. She will be missed by her sister in law Beatrice Shirran; brother in law Cliff Robertson; nephews and nieces, Doug (Judy) McNutt, Jim (Angie) McNutt, Cindy McNutt, David McNutt, Donna McNutt, Henry (Daphne) Shirran, Shirley (John) Duesener, Bev (Walter) Wynnyczenko, and George (Denise) Shirran. Bessie was the daughter of a Free Methodist pastor, which meant her family moved to several different communities. She graduated from high school in Kindersley and then enrolled in a business course from which she graduated in 1941. She attended Moose Jaw Bible College in 1943 and then began working at Sterling Motors in Moose Jaw as a bookkeeper. She married Lloyd Robertson on May 3rd, 1951 after which the couple were appointed by the church to serve in First Nations ministries, which they faithfully fulfilled for over 32 years on several First Nations in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Bessie was always kind and thoughtful to everyone and kept in touch with her family and loved them very much. She also loved the Lord and depended on Him for strength and grace, especially in the years following Lloyd's passing. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. SCHINDEL - Arthur Theodore July 18, 1922 May 12, 2008 Arthur Theodore Schindel was born July 18, 1922 at Morse, Saskatchewan. He grew up on the farm at Morse and Macoun. Arthur joined the Air Force in the latter years of the war and after discharge attended Normal School in Moose Jaw. Arthur married Merle Tripps on August 16, 1947 at Penzance, Saskatchewan. During their life together they lived in Houghton, Girvin and Craik where they built their family home and raised their children. Arthur continued his education and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1961. He was a caring, dedicated teacher and Principal and an active volunteer for many community projects and events. Arthur was predeceased by Merle in 1971 and stepdaughter Bev Sorsdal. He married Clara Hoogeven on July 17, 1973. Upon his retirement in 1977, he taught adult upgrading in several communities. He and Clara moved to Regina in 1988 where he resided until his passing at Pasqua Hospital. SCHNEIDER - Cynthia Denise "Cindy" of Saskatoon, SK, age 50 years, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, at the Palliative Care Unit, St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon, SK on Wednesday, August 5, 2009. Cindy grew up in Craik, she completed her grade one to twelve there. She later attended S.I.A.S.T. and received her diploma as a registered nurse. She then nursed at the Royal University Hospital. Most recently on the post partum ward. Cindy made countless friends at the hospital, she was respected by colleagues and patients alike. Cindy loved golfing, gardening, crocheting and card playing. She especially loved her summer vacations with her family at Emma Lake. Later in life Cindy took up the sport of Taekwondo, achieving an honorary black belt. Joan was born February 25, 1938 in Craik, Saskatchewan where she spent her elementary and high school year excelling in track & field, socializing, and working in the telephone office. After living briefly in Swift Current and North Battleford, the remaining years of her life were spent in Regina. She was blessed with great neighbors and friends in both Whitmore Park and Varsity Park. She devoted herself to raising her children and creating a beautiful home. She was also an avid duplicate bridge player earning her Gold Life Master's, teaching bridge and making many life long close friends. Joan and John also developed many friendships in South Texas where they have spent the last 10 winters. She touched countless lives with her "say it like it is " personality and great sense of humour. These things bring her to mind: Christmas cookies, barbequed roasts, hummingbirds, perennials poking through the ground, Schnauzer's Dachshund's, country music and her many beautiful petit point pictures. SHIELS - Jake Lloyd Shiels of Capilano Court, Moose Jaw, formerly of Craik Sk., passed away peacefully on October 28th, 2006 in the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Jake was born April 28th, 1923 on the family farm in the Rose Hill District, to Frank and Velina Shiels, the youngest of a family of four. This was Jake's home for the nest sixty four years. Here he acquired his love of farming and helped his brothers raise pure bread Black Angus cattle, as well as caring for his sister who was stricken with M.S. in the fall of 1987. He took up residence in Craik due to the passing of his brother and placement of his sister in the Davidson Pioneer Lodge. During the winter months, Jake enjoyed shuffling with the Craik Senior Group, but come spring he made his daily drive out to the farm to look over the land and help if he could in some little way. Due to failing health with dementia, Jake moved to Capilano Court in February 2004. Here he became involved with daily activities and looked forward to visits and calls from Les, Fran and family. Jake was predeceased by his parents Frank in 1942, mother Velina in 1962, brothers James 1987 and Lorne 1994 and sister Frances 1994. Jake is survived by his special family, the Viberts, Les and Fran, Brian, Jodi, Bailey and Kalib and Brad all of Craik SK., as well as cousins. At Jake's request there will be no funeral service. SMITH - Alta Louise (nee Glover) was born to Marguerite and James Glover on May 12, 1935. Alta was born and raised in Craik. Alta met her one true love in 1951. Bob and Alta became engaged on April 8, 1953 and less than two months later they were married. Alta and Bob had four children: Debra Lynn, Terry Louise, Shawn Scott, and Jody James. Through the years, Bob and Alta lived in many homes. They lived in Davidson for many years before Bob was transferred to Saskatoon to continue his Superior Propane Career. While living in Saskatoon, they enjoyed playing cards with neighbours and visiting friends. Alta took up bowling and would play often in her spare time. Before long she discovered it as a new talent and became very good at it. For a short while, they moved to Martensville and then it was back to the city. It was after Bob passed away in 2001 that Alta decided to move back to Davidson where she lived until her passing. When Alta wasn��t playing crib with Bob or taking care of the children, she was working on her many crafts. Some of the crafts she enjoyed were plastic canvas, cross stitch, needle point, beadwork, ceramics, sewing, knitting, crocheting and anything else she could get her hands on. Every craft she did she put her entire heart and soul into it. Consequently, she did very good work and showed great results. Alta enjoyed expressing herself through writing, especially poetry. When Princess Diana passed away, she wrote a poem to her children, which she sent to them. She was delighted when she received a letter back from Prince Harry and Prince William. In 2003, Alta took her poetry and published her very own book. ��Treasures from the Heart�� was a book filled with memories of family and friends that she was very proud of. Alta took great pride in her children and grandchildren. She would always be there to listen and she was never quick to judge. She always treated each as a unique individual. Mom, Gran, Mother-in-law, we will all miss you! Watch over us as we grow and move on in our lives. Rest in Peace! SMITH - Gordon was born September 17, 1942 in Craik, SK. He completed his Grade 12 in Craik and later went on to become a Journeyman plumber. The past fifteen years, Gord so enjoyed his summers as he worked for Meadow Lake Provincial Park. During the winters he worked for ICG hauling propane. At the same time, Gord and Colleen have been very busy at home with their small farm and cattle operation. Gordon found so much pleasure in planting and taking care of trees and shrubs, he was the one who really studied the raising of Saskatoon berries. Gordon's greatest joy was his family. He was husband, father and grandfather, as well as brother, brother-in-law and son-in-law. We will all miss Gord in so many ways, but we know our loss is Heaven's gain. George dearly loved his family and always enjoyed the many visits. He will be forever missed by all for the many card games, playing pool, his kind words, his giggles and reciting poetry that he learned in school. SPRATT - Sarah Jane (nee Campbell) passed away peacefully on August 20, 2007, in her 96th year, lucid until the last few days of her death. She was born a prairie girl on November 10, 1911, in Craik, Saskatchewan, the eldest child of Duncan and Catherine Campbell. On June 15, 1930, Sarah Jane married Alfred T. Spratt and they took up residency in the big white farm home. She always thought of the farm as her home no matter where she was living. She was a devoted companion and hard worker with Alfie and enjoyed the life of a farm wife. In May 1966, Alfie died and life took many changes, but she kept the farm, enjoyed the gardens, and was responsible for keeping the big house open in readiness for its centennial in 2003. Sarah Jane's life started with a large extended family in the area but tragedy struck when the grandmother, mother and an aunt all died within a few years and the Campbell Kids were left to be raised by their father, an uncle and the neighbors. At the age of 18 she married Alfie and they had two children, Edward and Mary Catherine. They shared many happy years together on the farm from spring to fall and living in their home in Davidson during the winter months. Sarah Jane moved to Saskatoon to live in 1967. She worked as a house mother at the School for the Deaf, sat in on classes at the University of Saskatchewan and started writing stories of her life. She was the Matriarch of the extended Campbell family, and shared her strong will and guidance until her death. She made sure Ed and Mary Catherine had an education and instilled values and principles that are guiding them through their lives. Sarah Jane loved giving to others. She was a member of the United Church of Canada in both Davidson and Saskatoon serving on the Boards and a lifetime member of the United Church Women. In Davidson she was instrumental in getting a library established and served on that Board for many years. She also used her knowledge and strong commitment to have libraries set up at the different Senior Homes where she lived. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Whitelock Rebekah Lodges both in the Davidson region and in Saskatoon. During the 1970s she became a founding member of the Ostomy Association in Saskatoon. She traveled extensively with travel groups to Europe, Scandinavia, Israel, and throughout USA. She loved to entertain and make big meals full tummies and laughter were in abundance. Her family and friends will miss her infectious laugh and love she gave to all. Sarah Jane was predeceased by her parents, Duncan and Catherine Campbell; her husband, Alfred Spratt; her brothers, John and Neil Campbell; and her sister, Catherine Castle; and other close family members. Gerald Milton Stone, the fifth child of Peter Stone and Thea Holmlund, was born on the family farm, close to what is now Gardiner Dam on March 18, 1924. He passed away at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, on July 18, 2012 at the grand age of 88 years and 4 months. Among many important people in his life, the family would especially like to thank Garry and Myrna Stone, Art Hauberg, Colin Bouchard, Elgin and Lillian Forster, and Wayne Guillet. Gerald's schooling took place at the rural schools of Stafford and Wheat Plains. In 1955, he obtained his Journeyman papers as an electrician while he apprenticed under Leo Rowley at Elrose and Lloyd Holland at Craik. His electrician skills were put to work when he was hired by the SSRID as Watermaster. He spent many hours monitoring the irrigation canal, which allowed him to meet and visit with his farmer friends. After retirement, his years were spent working around the farm, while continuing to come up with fantastic ways of improvising. Gerald began baking bread and adapted his mother's brown bread recipe. He generously shared his bread with family and friends, and even took part in trading with neighbours for eggs, buns and burgers. He was an avid cyclist and got a big kick out of going "canning" with his grandchildren when they were younger. Biking helped him manage the pain of an arthritic hip, and he was a common sight along Highways 219 and 44. He never went too far from home, but on a good day he would cover at least 20 kms. Gerald loved music and was known for whistling and singing wherever he went. He played many instruments including the piano, trumpet, saxophone and clarinet. We will miss him so much. Pedal On! Gerald has requested that there be no funeral service. In the fall, his family plan to have a gathering to celebrate his life. In 1990 Ken retired, and spent his time with family; fishing, golfing & gardening. At Jon's request, no funeral service will be held. TAYLOR - Grace Viola (nee Willfong) passed on peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, November 17, 2002. Grace was born March 20, 1912 at Craik, Saskatchewan, the eldest of seven children in the family of Oliver and Bessie "Ethel" (nee McGregor) Willfong. Grace experienced and enjoyed all aspects of traditional prairie farm life - the chores on the home front, the long walks to a one-room school-house in all kinds of weather, caring for livestock and communion with the land. She was especially proud that she and her siblings exercised their imaginations to make playthings from everyday objects, such as dolls from cobs and stalks of corn. "Using the materials at hand" became a constant of her approach to living. The family later lived at Baildon, SK, then moved to Moose Jaw to partake of city life. Grace became a nanny and housekeeper for the Cronk family. While working as a waitress at Moose Jaw's well-known "Exchange Cafe", Grace met her husband-to-be, Robert Taylor, a recent arrival from Gainsborough, England. With the outbreak of World War II, Robert went into battle, leaving behind his beloved wife and small son, Robert Jr. During the war years, Grace became a popular and highly-regarded "tea-cup reader" at the Harwood Hotel. Robert returned from his tour of duty and the couple had a second son, Fred. Robert was shortly thereafter stricken with cancer and died in 1950. Grace became a devoted prototype of the single parent, centering all her interests and efforts on the nurturing and well-being of her two boys. She began working at Weston Bakeries in 1952, eventually attaining the position of forewoman in the decorating department. Grace transferred to Regina in 1965 when the company moved its operations from Moose Jaw. She remained with Weston's for a ten-year period in her adopted "hometown", retiring in 1975. During all those years at the bakeries in the two cities, Grace walked to work year-round, an echo of earlier times, when she made the trek of many miles to the one-room school house. In addition to doting on her sons and being completely enamored of her three grandchildren, Grace loved cooking, baking, gardening, sewing and reading. She tried her hand at landscape painting and was surprised and pleased at the favorable comments her efforts received. Although Grace did not make the trip to England to visit her husband Robert's family, a highlight occurred in the 1980's when she was able to meet a number of family members at a wedding in Ontario. Grace also relished memories of other holiday destinations, especially California, Minnesota, Manitoba, and her many vacations in British Columbia. Grace had an abiding faith in God, as espressed in the healing power of love. Predeceased by her husband, Robert; parents, Oliver and Bessie Willfong; two sisters, Helen Statham and Myrtle Miller; brothers-in-law, Ray Beaudette and Ernie Statham; Grace is survived by her sons, Bob and Fred, both of Regina; grandchildren, Eric and Lillian of Moose Jaw and Perry of Calgary; a sister, Bernice Beaudette on Duncan, B.C.; brothers, Murray Willfong (Mary); Harold Willfong (Joyce); and Glen Willfong (Delores), all of Moose Jaw; and numerous nieces, nephews and associated relatives, as well as special friends, Robin Berthelet and Sheila Hala. He was predeceased by his loving wife Opal, his parents Frederick and Mary, his siblings Elwin Watt and June Exelby. He is survived by his loving family Douglas (Helen), Ronald (Barbara), Frederick (Lynn), Duncan (Margaret) and Pamela Watt. He has 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Arthur was born September 14, 1925. He grew up on a farm in the Craik district and attended rural schools in the area. He joined the navy and served in W Commando 1943-1945. During his time in the navy he married his hometown sweetheart Opal Pound in Cornwallis Nova Scotia. Following the war they returned home to farm in Craik and resided there until their passing. Harvest was his favorite time of year. He spent hours watching combines, trucks and bins filling up. He always had a sharp mind and memory. He could debate everything whether it was sports, politics, history or the economy. He could remember weather back to when he started farming or before. Arthur was a loving husband and father and an irreplaceable grandfather. Arthur was many things to many people and will be fondly remembered by those whose lives he touched. Opal was a great lover of nature and could often be found sitting on the steps enjoying the outdoors. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arnold Ted Wegner of Craik, Saskatchewan. Arnold was born on the Kinney Farm near Tugaske, SK on January 31st, 1932. Arnold was born to Emil and Olga Wegner and grew up with siblings Arthur and Lesa. Arnold married Marieanne Schneider in July 1956 and together they raised five children; Mark, Wanda, Glenda, Colette and Lorna. Dad's path through life was farming, 1st alongside with his father and later with his son and grandsons. Dad enjoyed golfing, curling, card playing and his daily trips to town for coffee. Dad was an avid past member of Craik Lions Club. Camping trips to Emma Lake allowed Dad to reconnect with family and extended family and hit the greens at the Emma Lake Golf course. WENINGER - Gladys "Girlie" passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at William Booth Special Care Home, Regina at the age of 63 years, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born and raised in Craik, Saskatchewan, later making her home in Edmonton, AB where she was employed for twenty years at Sobey's West Food Distributors. Due to ill health she returned to Saskatchewan and has resided in Regina for the past fourteen months. Gladys was predceased by her parents William and Katie Weninger; brothers, George, Doug, Bill and brother-in-law Garnett Fielder. She is survived by two sisters, Eileen Fielder of Spalding, SK, Carol (Harry) Beblow of Regina; and numerous nieces and nephews. WHITE - Irene (nee Miller). It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Irene; wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Surrounded by love, Irene passed away on Monday, March 22, 2010. Her parents Henry and Lydia Miller; and mother-in-law Grace Sinclair predeceased Irene. She leaves her devoted husband of 59 years, Bill; their children Tom (Jean) White, Orville (Darlene) White, Pat White, Debbie (Gary) Gelsinger, Harvey (Carmen) White; ten grandchildren Nicole (Julie), Amanda (Chad), David (Kristen), Tamara (Troy), Daniel (Sarah), Michael, Zach, Kailla, Kristopher, and Tanner; three great granddaughters Hayley, Bentley and Easton; and her grand puppies Shannon, Marvin, Daytona, Sammi, Rylee and Mortimer to cherish her memory. Irene is survived by one sister and two brothers. Irene was born on December 2, 1934 in Craik, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the family farm south of Craik. At the young age of 12, she began cooking and providing meals for thrashing crews during the prairie harvest. During her marriage she worked outside the home at several different jobs. She started her favourite job when she stayed at home to baby-sit her grandchildren, which gave her a special appreciation of their individual personalities. Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who found her greatest pleasures in life were those occasions which brought her family together. She also enjoyed inviting friends to sample her cooking and baking skills. Irene was selfless in the love and support she provided to her family. Irene's family would like to extend a special thanks to EMS, Regina General Hospital ER and MPICU nurses and doctors for their care and support. WILDFONG - Regina Kathleen (nee Burkart), October 12, 1926 - September 14, 2005. Regina was born on the family farm east of Holdfast, SK. She passed away at the Craik & District Health Care Center, Craik, SK. Regina was in the middle of a family of eleven children, born to Michael and Rosa Burkart. Reg was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Rosa; brother, Joe; sister, Mary; and her loving husband, Bert in July of 1996. She is survived by her loving family, son, Rick (Deb) and children, Danielle and Russ; Lori (Geoff) Booth and children, Jennifer and Dane; also Jennifer and Dane's father, Gordon Sharp, a special friend to mom; sisters, Dot, Helen and Kay (Jack) Ohara; brothers, Nick (Chris), Albert (Louella), Danny (Lillian) Gabe and Rudy; also numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Reg was a good ball player and a bit of a free spirit, leaving Holdfast at 16 to live and work in Regina. Her first job was waiting tables at the Simpson Sears Cafeteria in Regina. She met Bert in Craik in 1948 while working at the Craik Cafe. The first time she met Bert she thought he was a bit too outgoing. The first time dad met her, he bounded out of the cafe and saw Ruby and Dave Watkins, who were on the sidewalk. Bert said to them, I'm going to marry that girl. They were married in Bowbells, North Dakota, February 18, 1950. Mom said she was the only girl dumb enought to catch pitches for Hazel Measner. Hazel went on to pitch for the Rockford Peaches in the AAW Baseball League. Together Reg and Bert built a beautiful farm. They raised two grateful children and four wonderful grandchildren. Anyone who was lucky enough to be invited in for dinner or supper at Mom's table will never forget the delicious meals and the good humor and love that filled our kitchen. Over the years she fed hundreds of men and was like a mother to more than a few. Some men came back year after year. She prepared thousands of meals, lunches and snacks for two grateful kids, while taking care of dad and the hired men for seven months every year. Her Saskatoon pies, cookies, cakes and special desserts were the talk of the town. Mom enjoyed her garden tending to her apple trees and picking Saskatoons. Mom and dad spent 22 winters in Hawaii together until Dad's untimely death in 1996. The beauty and adventure they faced together in that paradise, added great happiness to their lives. These memories are special for us today in large part because of the wonderful times we had with our parents. Mom had a good life and she made a lot of people feel better for having known her and her loving and caring ways. The family of Don Wilson is thankful for the long, full life of their father, grandfather and great grandfather and are saddened by his passing that occurred peacefully on Friday, July 14th, 2006 at The Prairie Spring Care Home in Saskatoon. He was 94 years of age. Don was born in Craik, SK on November 11th, 1911. Graduated from the U of S and enjoyed a successful teaching career around the province. In 1943 the family moved to Saskatoon and a teaching job at City Park Collegiate. Don taught at City Park for 31 years finishing as principal in 1974. A favorite teacher of many; ex students and acquaintances always had kind praise for Don. Don enjoyed many sports all his life and won the Canadian Sr. Curling title in 1968. His curling team is in the Saskatoon Hall Of Fame. He golfed until he was 90 at the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club and was made an honorary lifetime member. Don was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gertie in 1993. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Marj (Don) Featherstone of Saskatoon and Mary (Bob) Kochorek of Windermere, BC. Also grandchildren, Trish (Bruce) Maxwell, Dyan (Lonny) Haux and Patrick (Lamise), Michael and Robin Kochorek. Don had seven great grandchildren. Don is survived by a sister, Gladys McLean of Nanaimo, BC and a brother, Gordon Wilson of Marysville, BC. WRIGHT - Dorothy Margaret Thomas Wright (November 1, 1929 - August 24, 2011). Dorothy passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the age of 81. Predeceased by her first husband Adam Thomas; Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Frank Wright of Craik SK; her daughter Brenda (Glenn) Miller of Regina; two grandchildren, Britton (Alexei) of Melville, and Brett (Lindsey) of Regina; as well as several nieces and nephews. Following her retirement from teaching, Dorothy enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, travelling, socializing with her friends, as well as spending many hours volunteering with the Craik Museum. ZURIF - Gladys Alta (nee Kyllo), born January 28, 1912 in Craik, SK., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 in Regina, SK. Predeceased by her parents, Gunder and Gonelia Kyllo; husband, William Zurif; brother, Perry Kyllo; sisters, Marget Brooks and Marion Doull; and nephew, Grant Kyllo; Gladys is survived by her daughter, Myrna Khalid; her grandchildren, Zina, Khalid and Hisham Khalid; and her nephews, Delmar, Glen, Ron and Cameron Brooks, Don and Lorne Kyllo of B.C. Engaged and engaging till the end, Gladys was known to be nothing short of a phenomenon. She attended Scott Collegiate and Normal School in Regina, met her husband William Zurif, a CPR relief agent, and followed him throughout the province, teaching at various local schools. Gladys had a natural gift for music, which along with her faith, was a constant throughout her long, fulfilled life. We will miss her quick wit, her relentless curiosity, and her entertaining stories of a lifetime spent in the prairie towns of Saskatchewan.
