ADAMS - Cora Marie (nee Tagseth). March 18, 1908 - September 2, 2003. Cora Marie Adams, formerly of Strasbourg, Saskatchewan passed away at Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon, SK on Sept. 2, 2003 at the age of 95 years. Cora is survived by her daughter Ruby and son-in-law Art Gessner; her sister Anna Twedt; grandchildren: Dennie (Frank) Covelli (Trevor & Marc), John (Janelle) Gessner (Janine, Bryce & Brent), Carol (Michael) Mueller (Rebecca, Kristen & Ryan), Linda (Pat) Kavanagh (Chris, Stephanie & Jason), Larry (Debbie) Aupperle (Eric & Mary), David Aupperle, Andrea Chometa (Caitlen), George (Lynette) Adams (Andrew & Cameron), and Glenda Bruce (Jordan & Lauren). Cora was predeceased by her husband Ole; her son Arne; and daughter Arlene & son-in-law Jack Aupperle; granddaughter Laurie Aupperle; and grandson Russell Gessner; sister Agnes; and brothers, Guttarm, Richard, Ole, Martin, and Perry Tagseth. A Celebration of Roy's Life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, May 28, 2012 from Bulyea Hall, Bulyea. ANDERSON - Hilda (nee York) Anderson passed away October 28, 2004. Hilda Helen York was born at Blucher, Saskatchewan, second child of Charles and Marion York. She attended school at Blucher and Bradwell. She earned her teacher's certificate at Saskatoon Normal School in 1941-1942 and taught at several one-room country schools. In 1945 she married Helmer Anderson of Bulyea, Saskatchewan. They raised four children. Hilda was a very creative person. She loved needlework, cooking, entertaining, and gardening. On the farm she planted many trees and flowers. Her life was enriched by a gift for making and keeping friends. From childhood school friends to former students to neighbours at Bulyea to her dear friends at Selo Gardens, each was remembered with visits, phone calls, cards and letters. Helmer and Hilda farmed in the Bulyea area until Helmer passed away in 1986. Hilda continued to live in Bulyea until 1996 when she moved to Selo Gardens in Regina. Hilda was predeceased by her parents; husband Helmer Anderson; son-in-law Joseph Poole and grandson Travis Poole; brother Edward York and his wife Brenda; brothers and sisters-in-law; Glen Frazer; Andrew Anderson; Amund and Olive Anderson; Matt Anderson; William and Margaret Parno; Lea Morrison. BJELLAND - Marie Louise (nee Pederson) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the age of 96 years. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Ralph, her parents Andrew & Olga, her siblings Selma (Joe) Curtin, Anne (George) Flotre, Alice (Don) Lehman, Edna (Bob) Nicholson, Alfred (Bea) Pederson, and Andrew (Laura) Pederson. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Bev (Geo) Beckett, Bulyea; son, Raye (Gloria) Bjelland, Regina; daughter, Rilla (Wes) Holowatuk, Saskatoon; eight grandchildren, Craig (Aline) Beckett, Grant (Mei) Beckett, Janine Beckett (Will Nolan), Ronalda (John) Gianoli, Pamela (Bob) Bailey, Ray (Ginette) Bjelland, Shelby (Amanda) Holowatuk, and Kyle Holowatuk (Janelle Villeneau); ten great-grandchildren, Caitlynn & Ashley Beckett, Miranda & Owen Beckett, Kristen & Haley Gianoli, Rolle & Brooke Bjelland, and Talia & Tysen Holowatuk. She is also survived by her sisters, Bertha Fries, Gladys Pederson and Doris (Cliff) Hanson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Marie was born on the family farm near Bulyea, SK on November 1, 1917. She attended schools in the area and graduated from Regina Normal School in 1938, teaching at various country schools in the Last Mountain area. In 1943, she married Ralph and they began their life together on the farm west of Bulyea. Here, they raised their family, farmed and enjoyed rural life while participating in many community activities. The farm was a special place for all to gather, particularly the grandchildren. Ralph and Marie moved to Strasbourg in 2003. Ralph passed away in 2007, and Marie then moved to Centennial Manor in Strasbourg where she remained until October 2013. The family extends their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, therapists and chaplain of Pasqua Hospital, 3A Palliative Care team for their exceptional care and compassion. A special thanks to Melinda for her beautiful voice and touching musical renditions, which were so comforting to Mom and the family in her final days and moments. A celebration of Marie's life will be held at Norrona Lutheran Church, Bulyea, SK. at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 31, 2014. BRACK - Lawrence Ernest, age 71 years of Saskatoon, passed away in a local hospital on Monday, November 14, 2005. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Saskatoon Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Howard Ulmer. Courtesy parking south of the chapel. Lawrence was born on March 2, 1934 at Bulyea, SK. He moved to the farm north of Saskatoon when he was six years old. He grew up on the family farm and in 1954 he took it over. He married Shirley at Saskatoon on October 30, 1954 and continued to live and run the farm until his passing. He and his partner Bob Siemens coowned Lor-Lee Holsteins. They exported genetics to the USA, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Japan, China, Russia, Spain, England, Norway, Holland and Finland. Later, his son Larry returned home to take an active roll in the farm operation. His passion was the farm. His other true loves were his granddaughters and curling. Lawrence was predeceased by his daughter, Lori in 1959; his parents, John and Lydia; sister, Edna; brother, Irvin; and father-in-law, William Steve. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two children, Larry (Karen) of Saskatoon, and Shawna (Kevin) Paziuk of Saskatoon; three granddaughters, Chelsea, Christy-Lee and Ambur; brothers, Bob (Joyce) Brack of Saskatoon and Lloyd (Beth) Brack of Vancouver; sister, Alma (Tony) Klein of Saskatoon; mother-in-law, Gladys Steve of Saskatoon; and sister-in-law, Renee Brack of North Battleford; as well as numerous other relatives. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. BRACK - Robert Edward (January 25, 1930 - January 16, 2010). Bob Brack passed away at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon. His family was with him for his final days and hours. He will be forever remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Bob is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, Lindsay and Brian (Nona) and his five grandchildren, Lee, Shea, Alese, Cody, and Jennilee. He was predeceased by father, John; mother, Lydia; sister, Edna; brothers, Irvin and Lawrence; brother and sister-in-laws, Alan Haight, Dave and Muriel Imrie . Surviving is his sister, Alma (Tony) Klein and brother, Lloyd (Beth). He had lifelong friendships with Joyce's brothers and sisters including Jean (Joyce's twin) and Gavin Hamilton, Ruth Lauscher, Gail (Don) Guidinger, Murray (Marge) Haight, Marie Haight, and Ann (Ken) Thompson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bob was born in Strasbourg on January 25, 1930. He grew up on farms near Bulyea and Clark's Crossing. In his early school years, Bob attended a one-room schoolhouse at Clark's Crossing. He attended Saskatoon Technical Institute for high school and had fond memories of living with his sister Alma during that time even though they lived in a oneroom home without plumbing. Bob was always a talented student. He was first in his high school class and received a scholarship to attend the University of Saskatchewan. He graduated from the College of Agriculture in 1952 with great distinction and obtained a Master's degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1961. One year after graduating from U of S, Bob married Joyce Haight, a primary school teacher. They met during high school and through 4-H. Bob assumed leadership for the provincial 4-H program and influenced thousands of young 4-H members over the years. He had fond memories of leading 4-H expeditions to Toronto, California and New York. He actively participated in many 4-H camps at Camp Wakonda. Later, he was instrumental in creating the 4-H foundation leading to the permanent establishment of Camp Rayner at Lake Diefenbaker. Bob had a 40-year career at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1982, Bob became Director of the Extension Division and Community Relations for the U of S. This work included extension services, adult learning, alumni relations and providing distance education to communities across Saskatchewan. During his years at the university, Bob was a trusted mentor and a distinguished educator and administrator. He retired from the U of S in 1992 as Professor Emeritus. Among his many professional accomplishments, Bob was president of Canada's 4-H Council during Canada's centennial year and was awarded the Centennial Medal. He was a past president of the Canadian Agricultural Extension Counsel. Bob will be inducted into the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame this summer. Bob and Joyce were married for 57 wonderful years. Joyce supported Bob on his many endeavors during his career and provided a wonderful home for Bobby to return to each day. They shared a love of entertaining family and friends, cooking and travelling. Shortly into their marriage, Joyce was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Bob was a tireless and dedicated husband as well as a healer, therapist and motivator to Joyce during her setbacks. Together they managed challenging situations with grace, courage and dignity. Bob gratefully remembered all of the support he received from friends and family during Joyce's MS attacks. Bob's favorite times included being with his children and grandchildren. They had countless family trips on Vancouver Island and in San Diego. He had fond memories of the Brack houseboat trips on Shuswap Lake where he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren swimming, diving, water-skiing, and performing for the evening dances on the houseboat. Bob's grandchildren will forever brag of watching him `carve' up the lake at 75 years of age on a slalom ski. They will also remember his competitive spirit during games of cribbage, card games and scrabble. Bob was an avid fisherman who spent many hours casting and trolling in the waters of northern Saskatchewan. He led many trips there with colleagues from the university. Later, he enjoyed the annual fishing trips to Green Lake and Jan Lake with his nephews from the Klein family. As an athlete, Bob enjoyed skiing, curling, water-skiing and football. Lindsay and Brian's friends were always amazed when `Bobby', 25 years older than anyone else on the field, ran the long bomb for touchdowns in the weekly football games. He was a passionate fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the U of S Huskies football team. Bob was a tireless giver to the community. He was one of the founders of Camp Circle of Friends, an organization that has provided a camp experience for Saskatchewan children living with cancer for the past 25 years. Bob's influence upon his family and community will endure through generations to come. He will always be remembered as a man of unquestioned principles. His humility, unselfishness and understated manner belied his quiet but persuasive leadership. He was a man of wonderful intellect, incredible character and enduring compassion. BRANDT - Julia Grace (nee Butler) March 23, 1933 � December 26, 2014. With heavy hearts we share the sudden passing of our dearest mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Julia Grace Brandt (Butler). Grace came into this world March 23, 1933, the 8th of 15 children born to John Frances Butler and Ethel Demyen of Lestock, Sask. Grace left home at 17 and married George Brandt on April 17, 1950. They moved to Gibbs, Sask. where they worked hard farming and raising their family. They eventually moved to Lumsden after 40 years of farming where they retired to enjoy more time with their grandchildren. Grace was an active member of the Lumsden community often sharing her energy to help others with a big hug, a prayer, a quilt or one of her delicious meals. There was always room for one more around the kitchen table. Grace is predeceased by her husband, George, her granddaughter, Tammy and her daughter, Dolores, eight sisters and three brothers. Grace leaves to cherish her memory her children, Carole (Clifford) Styles, Lois (Bill) Gardner, and Jeffrey (Cindy) Brandt; her sisters Mae LaFayette and Violet Greenstein and her brother Thomas (Yvonne) Butler; grandchildren Cheryl (Jeff) Bloudoff, Eddie (Amy) Styles, Brett Styles, Megan Gardner, Nathan Gardner, Julie Harvey; great grandchildren Jason, Brandt, Brody, Nicholas, Sarah, and Matthew; as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family. The Celebration of Grace's Life will be on December 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Centennial Hall in Lumsden, lunch to follow. BREVIG - Ingolf passed away November 14, 2007 at the age of 87. He is remembered by his devoted wife Elinora, son Wes (Karen), daughter Wendy (Dick) Eddy, grandchildren Kim Brevig and Chris Eddy, sisters Clara Klatt, Thelma (Gerry) Siedekum and Lida (Lawre) Henderson, brother Art (Isabel), numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and good friends. Predeceased by his parents Lorentz and Elizabeth, brother Lenhard and sister Emma Huntley. In his youth he attended Pengarth School. He worked at various locations throughout Canada as a miner, farmhand and lumberjack. Ingolf served with the Lord Strathcona's Horse overseas in WWII. In 1950 he began farming the McKillop homestead and married Elinora Uhl in 1953. On the farm they raised their family and retired in 1983. At that time they moved to Strasbourg, where Elinora continues to live. Through his life Ingolf was very community minded person and served on numerous boards and committees. He liked to read, walk with his good friend Wilf, he loved to laugh, loved music and loved to dance. More than anything he loved his family and we will miss him. BRINIECOMBE - Doreen (nee Abbott) Briniecombe of Bengough, SK, and formerly of Bulyea, SK, passed away peacefully January 8, 2009 at the age of 82 years at the Bengough Health Centre. Doreen was born on December 15th, 1926 at Victoria, B.C. She studied and practiced hairdressing, until she married the love of her life Elvin Briniecombe on July 17, 1948. Her home was always filled with the smell of homemade bread and the grandkids' favourite cookies when they went to visit. She spent a lot of time camping, fishing, picking berries and playing cards. Her favourite pastime was reading and doing word-find books. She loved to travel to see the grandchildrens' events, whether it was baseball, curling, soccer, or basketball. She spent a lot of time with her best friend, Jean Wolter. She was a hard worker, doing laundry, making lunches, cleaning and still made sure that all the kids were in the house before going to bed. She loved to sew and knit outfits for the kids and grandchildren. Doreen always shared her infectious laugh and smile with everyone. The family was very fortunate to have celebrated Doreen and Elvin's 60th wedding anniversary in July 2008. Everyone was in Bengough and had a wonderful time. She enjoyed herself very much visiting and watching the great-grandchildren play. Doreen was predeceased by her mother, Winnifred Abbott Gibson; father, Austin Gibson; brother, Gordon Abbott; sister-in-law, Helen Abbott and granddaughter Maria Rae Brown. Doreen is survived by her loving husband, Elvin; six children: Jim (Bette) of Regina, Bruce of Weyburn, Arleen of Regina, Margaret (Jack) Brown of Willow Bunch, Carolyn (Rick) Cull of Fort McMurray, and Heather (Ben) Hazen of Bengough, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, her sister, Beverly (Gordon) Hiebert of Moose Jaw, and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Knox United Church in Bengough, SK. Sylvia Fitzgerald officiated. On Friday, October 7, 2005, Vic C. Compton, late of Strasbourg and formerly of Bulyea, Sask., passed away at the age of 87 years. Predeceased by his parents Percy and Mary Compton and brothers Harry, James, William and Ronald, Vic is survived by his sister Marguerite Anderson and by his nieces and nephews. Interment will follow in the Bulyea Cemetery. COUTTS - Lucinda Myrene Coutts was born on October 11, 1956, the youngest child of John and Ruth Coutts, a sister for Greg and Colleen. She grew up on the Coutts family farm, just southeast of Bulyea, where she took her elementary schooling, followed by Grades 9 to 12 at William Derby High School in Strasbourg, graduating in 1974. Cindy's love for children led her to go on and attain her Bachelor of Education in 1978 from the University of Regina, concentrating on the areas of early childhood and reading. Lucinda's teaching career began in Kelliher in the fall of 1978. She set down roots, purchased a house and remained there for 17 years. She put her heart and soul into her teaching, and after taking on Itinerant Special Education for a few years, her deep caring nature led to a year of stress leave. She went back to teach part-time at Southey for a portion of a year, and then just thoroughly enjoyed subbing at Bulyea and Strasbourg Elementary schools. In January of 2010, she bought balloons and celebrated her official retirement. Growing up on the farm, at a time when there was no TV, you learned to entertain yourself, and Cindy developed a great imagination and creativity, as well as a sharp wit and great sense of humour. Of course, that was all helped along by having to deal with and survive being the scapegoat of the pranks of two older siblings. Cindy's clowning around and contorted facial expressions are evident throughout the family album. As a youngster, Cindy enjoyed figure skating, softball, curling, dancing and music. Many of these interests she carried into her adult life, with the addition of travel. Trips of highlight were to Venezuela and the Maritimes with her mom, as well as several trips to Cuba, Mexico, Hawaii and eastern USA with friends. Cindy loved all kids and they loved her. She got great pleasure from her nieces, nephews and great-niece and great-nephews. In 1996, Cindy purchased a house in Bulyea and found her soul mate and her 'rock,' Gary Nordal. They enjoyed each other and life together. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in October of 2008, but did not let that keep her from the joy of living her life to the fullest, as she was able. Cindy's courage, acceptance and positive attitude were beacons of hope for us all. We will miss that constant smile, her quick wit and her infectious hearty laugh. On January 30, 2011, Cindy passed away peacefully, in the Pasqua Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Time of remembrance was given by her brother Greg Coutts. DECKER - Edward William Charles died March 5, 2015 at St. Paul's Hospi tal, Saskatoon, in the company of fam ily and friends. Ed, aged 69, was born on May 25,1945 in Regina and grew up on the family farm near Bulyea with his parents, Fred and Millie Decker, and his brother, Ken. Ed attended the University of Saskatchewan which led him into a career in the Credit Union system. He served as manager of University Credit Union and went on to work in the commer cial real estate field. Notable among his private entrepreneurial endeavours was opening the first skate board park in Saskatoon, well ahead of the craze. Ed also owned the insurance agency in Aberdeen, a community to which Ed and Marlene devoted them selves for many years. Ed served on town council and as mayor, organized community fundraising events, including the popular concerts performed by his friends Henri Loiselle and Martin Janovsky. He coordinated the community newsletter, served on the Chamber of Commerce and played an important role in Aberdeen's centennial celebrations. Ed was an active member of the Lutheran church in Strasbourg while he lived there, at Zion Lutheran church in Saskatoon and served the Lutheran Care So ciety (LuMinHoS) involved in hospital chaplaincy. For a year, he and Marlene lived in Ghana and provided assistance to teachers in Ghana and the Gambia establishing Teachers' Credit Unions. A very important part of their lives was travelling the world with their friends. Ed is predeceased by his wife, Marlene (2008). He is survived by his brother, Ken, of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, by nieces and nephews and by many, many friends. Ed requested there be no funeral but we will plan to celebrate his life and inter his ashes at the time of his 70th birthday. DECKER - Emilie "Millie" (September 18, 1906 - November 29, 2007). Millie Decker went to be with her Lord on November 29, 2007 at the age of 101 years. Millie was born in Winnipeg and moved with her family to the Strasbourg area in 1911. She married Fred Decker in 1942. Millie and Fred farmed in the Bulyea area until 1968 when they moved into Strasbourg. Millie moved to Aberdeen in 2002 where she resided until moving to Circle Drive Special Care Home in 2004. Millie was an avid gardener (up to her 95th year), a great cook and a willing hostess. Many people enjoyed a meal around Millie's table. Millie was a woman of strong faith, a faith to which she held to the very end. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Ken, Fort Saskatchewan and Ed (Marlene), Aberdeen; and grand-children, Shelley Decker and partner Neil Murdoch, Calgary and Scott and Lindsay Decker, Fort Saskatchewan; numerous nieces and nephews; and Matilda Schneider, sister-inlaw. Clarence passed away suddenly, but peacefully in Prince Albert on October 16, 2015. Clarence was born in Bulyea, Sask. and was pre-deceased by his wife Gloria (Purdy), his parents Matthew and Annie (Thomson) his brothers Matt, Jim, Joe and his sister Beatrice Franklin. He is survived by his daughters Cheryl Turner, Sandra Norman, his grandchildren Sam Turner, Andy Turner, Harris Norman and Leah Norman as well as his sister Selina Dorrell. Clarence spent the majority of his adult life in Regina running his company Dorrell Electric. In the early years he was active in Jaycees and after his retirement he became involved with the Elks. He was known as a guy with a quick wit and a willingness to drop everything in order to help friends and neighbours. Clarence will be missed by friends at Lasal Bay/Wee Too Beach. But most of all, he will be missed by his children and grandchildren who enjoyed many hours of card and board games where "Papa" injected equal measures of good natured ribbing and good advice. FERRIS - Viola (nee Nordal) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She also leaves behind, her very special great-grandchildren, Carson, Connor, Addison and Aiden McMillan; her sisters Alma (Weldon) and Phyllis; brother Andrew (Lillian); sister-in-law Millie Nordal; as as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Viola was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Caroline Nordal; brothers, Gudmund, Asbjorn and Lief. She was born on the family farm near Bulyea on January 23, 1922. Viola attended Pengarth School. During WWII, Viola worked in Ontario as a "Bomb Girl". During that time she played semi-professional softball with the Ajax Dilkins. After the war, she returned to Regina, completed a business course and worked in the business office of the Medical Arts Clinic. In 1947 Viola met the love of her life Alick Ferris. They wed in 1950 and started a lifelong partnership and love affair. Alick and Vi were successful in business (Ferris Electric), but the passion of their life together was always family and friends. She will forever be remembered for her garden, all things beautiful, her sense of humour, her chocolate cake and her loving and caring spirit. Through her long life, she was able to raise her own child, influence greatly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and ensure guidance for the future generations of the family to which she was so committed. �Mimi,� as she was called by her great-grandchildren, taught us to love life, each other and to value every day. (nee Maskell) May 2, 1911 - September 23, 2006. Cora passed away peacefully at the age of 95, with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband James Douglas in 2001; her parents Albert and Florence Maskell; sister Ila Palmer; brothers Maitland and Herb; sister-in-law Griscilda Finch and brothers-in-law George Palmer, Dan MacDonald and Wilfred Finch. Cora will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Eva Webb and her children Adrienne and Vicki (Clayton) Campbell; sons Allan of BC and Edward (Gail) and their children Brian (Sherry), Darryl (Colleen), Gary and Sheila (Blaine) Muhr; fifteen great grandchildren; sisters Hazel (Alistair) Waddell and Vera (Jim) Corbett; sisters-in-law Betty Maskell and Dorothy MacDonald; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Cora was born in Goderich, Ontario and came west to the Strasbourg and Bulyea districts as a babe in arms. Cora attended Edenkellie School. In 1937, she married Doug Finch and raised 3 children. Cora loved farm life but had always longed to live in the city, in 1959 the family made the move to Regina. Cora enjoyed classes at the University Extension, swimming lessons, Civil Defence Organization First Aid and Home Nursing. Cora was a lifelong member of the St. John Ambulance League. She worked as a Nurse's Aide at Parkside and Pioneer Village for over 10 years. Cora loved life and put her heart and soul into every endeavor that she undertook with gusto and joyfulness. We will miss her dearly. A private family celebration of life will be held at Regina Memorial Gardens Cemetery. FISHER - Eliza "Beth" Mary (nee Small). Peacefully with family by her side, Eliza "Beth" of Lumsden passed away in the early morning of December 30, 2008. Beth was born on December 6, 1922 to John and Viola Small on the family farm near Craven where she grew up. In 1946, she married Joseph Manley Fisher of the Gibbs district and together they had two sons, Warren and Jim. Beth and Manley took over the Fisher family dairy and farmed together for 29 years before retiring to Shellbrook in 1975. Beth was a woman of great commitment, strength and perseverance, dedicated first and foremost to her family. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, gardening and time with her family. FLAVEL - Magdalene (nee MacPheat) was born on June 3, 1914 to David & Magdalene MacPheat of the Marieton district. She passed away on Monday, May 2, 2011. She attended school at Marieton and later taught school at Stoney Croft and Eddie schools. She was predeceased by her husband Stan in 1991, and her siblings Ken, Helen, Scotty, John and Margaret. On June 27, 1936 she married Stan Flavel. They raised six sons on the family farm west of Bulyea. Family gatherings and church were very important. She is survived by her six sons, Alan (Helen), Russell (Noreen), Brian (Isabelle), Mervyn (Dorothy), Keith (Cathy), Dale (Georginia), seventeen grandchildren and thirty one great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Kay MacPheat, Phyllis Munshaw and Irene Flavel. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the Strasbourg United Church, Strasbourg. FLOTRE - Selma Margarethe (nee Monson). With great sadness, the family of Selma Margarethe Flotre announce her death in the early morning hours of Friday, October 18, 2002 at the age of 95 years. Selma was born July 30, 1907 in Bulyea, Sask., to Mathias and Susanna Monson. She was predeceased by both parents, her husband Olav in 1998, her daughter Delores Gilbert in 1996, her twin sister Anne (Jerry) Graham, sisters Ella (Cliff) Barrie, Esther (Nels) Hamilton and Mabel Powell, her brothers Britanius (Rose), Arthur (Peggy), and Sigvald. Selma is survived by her grandson Scott Sundseth, his wife Rebecca, and Selma's great-grandsons Stefan and Stewart; her brother-in-law Randy Powell, her nieces Rita (Vern) Benton, Donna (Orville) Knutson, and Linda (Brian) Ewing, her nephews Bradford (Sherry) Powell and Darryl (Barb) Powell, cousin Oswald Monson, as well as numerous extended family members in Canada, Norway and the United States. Selma's life was marked by family relations and friendships that spanned all age groups and that were rich in laughter and fellowship. Her community of friends sustained Selma in her later years, and gave her strength to cope with the loss of her beloved husband and daughter. In the days immediately following Selma's death, her sister-in-law Rose Monson and cousin Olena Anderson died. Selma would want her love for Rose and Olena to be acknowledged with their passing. FOX - Grace Marie (nee Brown). It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother Grace Marie Fox on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the age of 103 years. Grace was born in 1906 near Bulyea, Sask. and had the privilege of growing up in a loving family as the first of five children. She was a spirited and independent young woman who enjoyed a successful career as a teacher before meeting the love of her life, Robert Fox, at a sports day. They married in 1928 and eventually settled in Gibbs, where they were blessed with 5 children. During their time there, Grace was an active member of the community and was instrumental in bringing a skating rink and church to the town. She took great pride in her home and in the summer, visitors would always find a fresh bouquet of sweet peas on her kitchen table, picked from her garden. She loved to fish, bowl, and especially loved to dance, continuing to do so well into her 90s. She was a loving Nana, and always had time to teach her granddaughters to knit and crochet and to play crib with her grandsons. In her later years she enjoyed being recognized as the eldest fan at her great grandchildren's sports games. She will be dearly missed by her family. Grace was predeceased by her husband Robert, parents William and Bertha Brown, one sister, two brothers, one brother-in-law, two sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law. Ross was born in Regina on December 1, 1921, to parents Herbert and Frances Goldie. Herbert died in 1925. Frances moved the family to Bulyea in 1930. Ross joined the RCAF in 1942. He trained in Canada, then in England where he served with 426 Squadron. He married Mary Ellen Williams in 1946. Ross graduated from the University of Manitoba School of Architecture in May 1950 and worked as an architect in Regina until retiring in October 1985. Ross was a member of Assiniboia Lodge #49 A.F.A.M., Wa Wa Shrine, Sons of Scotland, Royal Canadian Legion, 600 Wing of the Air Force Association and R.U.S.I. Ross was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Ed, Forde, John, and sister Margaret. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ellen, daughter Shirley Brooks, sons Jim, Charlie (Barb), six grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren and one nephew, Peter Goldie (Chris), of Salmon Arm, B.C. GORRILL - Mary Mae (nee Coutts) was born on March 20,1912 on the family homestead SE 1/4 22-23-21 W2 to William and Jesse (Russell) Courts. She was born very small, at only three pounds, the oven of the kitchen wood stove was used as an incubator. Mae passed away January 9, 2011 at the Last Mountain Pioneer Home in Strasbourg, SK. Mae could remember walking behind the plow with her dad, tramping down the prairie sod, helping pick stones, butchering pigs, and all the other chores on the farm. More so, she did what other women normally did - cooking, baking, embroidery, sewing, tatting quilt making, knitting, and looking after younger ones, both at her parents home and her own home after marrying in 1935. For many years, Mae taught a class at Sunday school, played the organ for church, belonged to the church ladies group Ladies Aid (later renamed U.C.W.), had a small group of girls called Willing Workers, was a correspondent for Last Mountain Times in the Bulyea News section, and belonged to the Senior Citizens for many years in Bulyea and Strasbourg. Mae had a good and varied life. She liked to curl and play ball in her earlier years, to entertain people with meals, and play cards and board games. She kept boarders for many years, mostly school teachers, but sometimes construction workers. She loved nature, especially flowers and birds, as she spent plenty of time outdoors. She always had many houseplants year round. The memorial service is to be held in the summer, and Mae's remains are to be placed beside her late beloved husband Jarv Gorrill. It is with great sadness that the family of Inez Holmes announces her peaceful passing on January 3, 2007 in Saskatoon. She left us gently to be reunited with her beloved husband of 55 years, Stuart Holmes. She leaves to mourn her four children, Jeanne (Saskatoon), Tom (Vernon), Ron (Port Coquitlam) and Wendy (Kelowna), their families, extended family and friends. Inez was born in Bulyea, SK on March 10, 1914 to Annie and Joseph Kerr. At the age of two, her father was killed in the first world war. She and her three older brothers, Elmer, Walter and Maurice grew up in Regina and Punichy. She earned her teaching certificate, and taught in several small rural schools. While teaching at Greenfarm School, near Rush Lake, she met her partner for life at a dance. They were married in 1937, and had five children. The first born, James died in infancy. Inez continued to teach until Stuart returned from the war. They then worked side by side running the Herbert post office for over 30 years. Demonstrating her leadership and organizational skills, Inez was a member of the Herbert Hospital Board, Town Councillor, Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, a Lady Lion's member and active in Herbert United United Church. She was a strong confident woman who was an inspiration to many. She loved nature, reading, poetry, knitting and needlework, dancing, bowling, traveling and creating a beautiful home for her family and friends. Her hospitality and sparkle and generous nature will always be remembered. Inez and Stuart retired to Kelowna in 1980. After Stu's passing, Inez moved to Saskatoon to reside with Jeanne. For the past two years, she made her home at Porteous Lodge. She loved the staff. The family wish to extend a heartfelt thanks to the entire staff and Dr. Szott and Dr. E. Olszinski. She lived life with zest and will be greatly missed. HUNTLEY - Emma Lovisa (nee Brevig) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, January 19, 2004 at the age of 79. Emma is predeceased by her father Lorentz and mother Elisabet Brevig and her brother Lenhard Brevig. Emma was born on May 23, 1924 on her parents' farm southwest of Bulyea, Sk. While working as a nurses' aide in Gull Lake she met Ralph. They were married on June 19, 1948. Emma and Ralph settled in Regina where Emma devoted herself to raising their four children. Her greatest passions were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Emma was a wonderful homemaker and was also active in her community. JAMES - Ken passed away unexpectedly at the Regina General Hospital in the early morning of Wednesday, November 20, 2013 surrounded by the love of his family. Ken was born in Regina on January 18, 1951. He spent his early life on the family farm in Bulyea and graduated high school in Strasbourg where he set many athletic records. At the age of eighteen, Ken moved to Lumsden where he resided for the majority of his adult life. Ken is predeceased by his mother, Thelma (Todd), his father Allan (Bud) and his brother in law, Raymond (Barney) Heinitz. Ken is survived by his wife Wendy; son Sean; step sons, Matthew (Haikush), Nicholas and his children Javen and Dawsey, and Patrick (Amy); sisters Susan Heinitz and Pamela James; Ken�s nephew Todd Heinitz and great nephews Kyran and Logan Heinitz; in-laws, Jean (Allan) Duncan, Brad (Melinda) Duncan and their children Chloe, Spencer and Ben, Ron and Lisa Duncan and their children Hunter and Sawyer. Leonard was born in 1922 in Eden Saskatchewan. He served in the R.A.F. in Burma, India and Egypt. Leonard worked at the Regina Refinery of Imperial Oil for 29 years, his last position being Process Operator. He retired after foreign service assignments in Aruba and Venezuela. Left to mourn are his wife of 57 years, Patricia, his children Douglas (Enid), Daryl (Holly), Dana Bertsch (Henk), and Scott (Loretta), 2 grandsons and 7 granddaughters. A memorial service will be held in Bulyea United Church, Thursday July 3 at 2:30. JAQUES - Patricia Louise (nee Tims). It is with great sadness that the family of Pat Jaques announces her passing on July 26, 2010. Born on July 16, 1924 to Elizabeth and Douglas Tims of Fredericton, New Brunswick, she was predeceased by her loving husband Leonard in 2003, her parents and her brother Douglas. Pat moved to Moncton, New Brunswick to work during the war and that is where she met Len while he was on service leave. After the war, she followed him to Regina where they were married and raised their family. They lived in Regina for several years along with temporary assignments in Aruba and Venezuela. After retirement Pat and Len moved to Bulyea and spent their remaining years enjoying their cozy country home. Pat loved her garden, the wildlife and the birds that she lovingly fed. Pat was loved by many and her passing will leave a void in the hearts of many. Wherever Pat lived or worked she made life long friends due to her generosity, great sense of humour and kind and caring ways. We were fortunate to have her in our lives and will miss her deeply. KLATT - Edith (nee Parkin), a long time resident of Olds, Alberta passed away February 8 after a long lengthyillness. Many a time her front room was the scene of band or choir practice with fiddlers, guitars, accordians, organs, drums and anything else right down to spoons. Her piano was well used as she gave piano lessons to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and anyone who wanted to "tickle the ivories". Mom valued all her friends and her Guest Book was always open as well as her door. Mom had a love for life and would stand for hours watching a sunrise or sunset and was always the last to leave a campfire. Her love for reading and knitting kept us warm and entertained. Mom was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and served on the ladies auxiliary for many functions. With great sorrow, the family announces the passing of Alma Carola Korpan on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the age of 86 years. Alma was predeceased by her husband Boris Korpan in 1990; her parents, Andreas Nordal and Caroline Nordal (Myklebust); her siblings and siblings-in-law, Viola Ferris (Nordal), Gudmund (Millie) Nordal, Leif (Anne) Nordal, and Asbjorn Nordal. She is survived by and will be loved and missed forever by her close friend and partner Weldon Moffatt; her children, Paul (Rhonda) Korpan, Joann (Scott Smith) Korpan Smith, and James (Heather Evans) Korpan; her grandchildren, Greg (Jasmine) Korpan, Roxanne Korpan, Michelle Korpan, Jacob Korpan, Jimmy Smith, Jack Smith, and Samuel Korpan; her sister Phyllis Guttman (Nordal) and brother Andrew (Lillian) Nordal; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Alma is also survived by her daughter Crystal (Randy) Neufeld and grandchildren, Jon, Corrie, and David. Alma was born on the Nordal family farm and homestead near Bulyea, Saskatchewan on November 29, 1929. Her parents immigrated to Canada from Norway. She was raised in a largely Norwegian farming community. She attended Pengarth School, a one-room schoolhouse, during her early school years and completed her high school education in Regina. In 1951, she graduated as a Registered Nurse and worked as a nurse at the Regina General Hospital and then as a public health nurse. In nursing school, she made strong and sustained friendships. She married Boris on May 1, 1955. Alma continued to work as a nurse for a few years until the birth of their third child, then becoming a fulltime homemaker and raising four children. Alma was a hard worker and self-reliant. She and Boris built houses and cottages together. They worked to develop the potential they saw in their children, providing motivation and support. They bought and operated a laundromat as a secondary source of income to fund their children's post-secondary education. Alma was a proud Norwegian. She used numerous Norwegian expressions to add colour and humour to conversation. In the last several months of her life, Alma could still read and translate letters written by her mother and relatives in Norway. She also accepted other cultures. When she married Boris, she embraced his family's Ukrainian traditions. Her children were enriched by an upbringing that valued their Norwegian and Ukrainian heritages. They followed many of the traditions of both, especially those centred on food. Alma loved her family. She was unfailingly, and sometimes excessively, proud of the lives of her children and grandchildren. Until recently, Alma hosted family suppers at her house every Monday night for whoever could come, sometimes cooking for twenty people. Her children and grandchildren have many special memories of her sharp sense of humour, beautiful smile, and easy laughter; losing cribbage and card games against her; spending time together walking, cross- country skiing, sharing meals, visiting, talking about the latest crime novel she was reading, and reminiscing about family and childhood stories. Over the past 20 years, Alma formed a lasting and important relationship with her friend Weldy Moffatt. Alma and Weldy were a good team. They were able to live in the Korpan family home until this year. Together, they visited Europe several times, including her parents' birthplace in Norway. Alma was a good listener and made others feel important and confident. She was quick to laugh and to make others laugh. Alma respected others and had much self-respect, carrying herself with elegance and style. She was strong, courageous, and resilient. Despite her physical challenges near the end of her life, Alma refused to allow her age to define her, instead referring to "old people" in the third person as if she was not one herself. Kind and gentle, she will be missed by many and loved always. Alma passed peacefully, in the hands of her family, on a warm and sunny afternoon. She was supported throughout by the excellent and compassionate care of the doctors and nurses of the Medical Surveillance Unit at the Pasqua Hospital. LITTLE - Palma Jeanette (nee Gullickson). Our dear Mom and Grandma, Palma Jeanette Little passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in Saskatoon at age 92. She was an amazing woman. Palma was born August 19, 1920 in Bulyea, Sask. to Mathias and Alpha Gullickson. She married Gerald Little and spent most of her very busy life on the farm she treasured near Spalding. Palma attended Teachers College in Saskatoon as a mature student and spent her teaching career in Naicam and as a consultant for the Tiger Lily School District in Melfort. While teaching full time she obtained her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan- A major accomplishment and source of much pride to her. It is with sadness that the family of Ozzie Monson announces his passing on September 15, 2010 at the age of 82. He passed away peacefully in his home in Saskatoon, SK. He met and married Lynda Childs while working as the Wheat Pool Elevator Agent in Renown,SK. They moved to Elfros as he started a new career as the Credit Union Manager, where shortly after their move, they welcomed their son Brent, and two years later, daughter Karen. In 1976 Ozzie took over the family farm near Young, SK, from Lynda's parents, Arthur and Lillian Childs. In addition to farming he spent many years as the Town Administrator of the Village of Young. During these years he and wife Lynda made many friends, which made his move to Saskatoon after Lynda's passing, one of difficulty. He enjoyed his life in Saskatoon with a community of friends that he saw daily in and around Market Mall. Ozzie touched the lives of many and will be sadly missed by all. NORDAL - Gudmund Andrew Nordal born December 12, 1923 on the family farm at Bulyea, SK passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2007. He was the oldest son of Andrew and Caroline Nordal. He received his early education at the local school and later became an electrician. For years he was instrumental in erecting many of Regina's landmark buildings. In 1951, Gudmund married Mildred Thompson, also of Bulyea and they raised a family of four, Ted (Carol), Diana (Everett) Florence, Mary-Lou (Kevin) Foote, Barbara (David) Frandsen; grandchildren, Wray and Bryce Nordal, Amy Florence, Morgan and Erik Foote, Stephanie and Darian Frandsen. Gudmund was a real family man who had his family heading his list of priorities. They enjoyed his expertise when it came to helping build things and he was well versed in everything that needed to be done. He enjoyed children very much especially babies. Gudmund was predeceased by his brother, Asbjorn and brother-in-law, Boris Korpan. He is survived by two brothers, Leiv (Anne) and Andrew (Lillian); three sisters, Viola (Alick) Ferris, Phyllis Guttman and Alma Korpan; brother in law, Perry Thompson (Leona); sister-in-law, Mabel Harvey and many nieces and nephews who affectionately refer to him as Uncle Good. Millie Nordal passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, on April 27, 2016 at the age of 92. She was born on the family farm in Bulyea, SK and was the best Christmas gift her family could ask for. Millie knew she wanted to be a teacher from childhood and it was a huge part of who she was. She obtained a teaching certificate as a young adult from the Normal School in Regina and taught from 1941 to 1951. She married the love of her life, Gudmund Nordal, and together they raised four children which she was so proud of. Millie was an excellent homemaker and her passion for educating others was evident with her many years of teaching Sunday School and providing English instruction to new Canadian immigrants, which she did well into her senior years. She was an amazing mother and wife who was very affectionate, generous with her time and put her family's needs before her own. Her deep Christian faith brought her comfort and camaraderie and she was so proud of her Scandinavian heritage � always trying to teach someone a few Norwegian words. Millie's love of music shone through in the many times she would participate in sing a longs at the senior centres, organizing concerts or getting someone up to dance. She was very outgoing and would be the first to cross a room to welcome others with her big smile and kind words. Rachel was born to Robert and Hannah Roney on the family farm at Bulyea on April 16, 1907. She married Rev. Thomas Parker on July 3, 1935 and together they lovingly served the United Church of Canada at Blain Lake, Sintaluta, Oxbow, Ethelton (Pathlow), Govan and Dundurn Pastoral Charges in Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her parents, five brothers and three sisters and in 1967 her beloved husband Tom. PHIPPS - Joan (nee Brown) passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, November 16, 2008, at the Pasqua Hospital at the age of 89 years. She was born in Cupar, SK on April 9, 1919, the fourth daughter of Harry and Edith Brown. During the time her family lived in nearby Bulyea, she met the love of her life, Clarence Phipps. They were married in December 1941, just before Clarence was shipped overseas for the war. On his return, the couple set up residence in Regina, later joining and caring for Joan's widowed mother. In her time, Joan worked at Simpson's Department Store, Office overload, and as a temporary for Kalium Chemicals. From May of 1940 to November 1941, she worked in Ottawa for the Federal Government. She also sewed sterile wraps for instruments for Regina Public Health. For many years she accompanied Clarence on the piano while he practiced on the banjo for local dance gigs. Her door was always open to visiting family and friends who fondly recall her coffee pot always being `on'. Another popular meeting place for family and friends was in the Phipps' boathouse on Long Lake. Although Clarence and Joan had no children of their own, they will be missed and fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, as well as many friends from Regina and `the lake'. Joan was an avid reader and an expert at crossword puzzles. Her fondness for cats and dogs was well known. Joan was predeceased by her husband Clarence in 1997, as well as her parents and three sisters Cecilia, Theresa and Josephine. It is with sorrow that the family of Ida Irene Reid announces her passing on August 5, 2004 at Extendicare Preston in Saskatoon. Ida Gee was born to William and Rebecca Gee in Cupar on April 21, 1924. She then went to "Normal School" and began her teaching career at Stony Croft near Bulyea, SK. Here she met and married Ken MacPheat where they farmed and raised their children until Ken's death in 1970. In 1971 she married Darwin Reid and resided in Strasbourg until moving to Saskatoon in 2003. Ida was very active as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Strasbourg United Church, the community choir, Last Mountain District Music Festival, the UCW, a special "Study Group ", and a board member of the Sask. Centre of the Arts. She began Strasbourg's Welcome Neighbour and also enjoyed her political involvements. She loved to sew and knit and was an accomplished painter. She was an active farm wife and with Darwin, joined him in Reid's Ambulance and Funeral Home. She also developed MacPheat Park and ran this business until her health began to fade in 2003. Ida's greatest treasures were her children and grandchildren. She loved to spend time with them at the cabin and loved her trips to the Yukon. She is predeceased by her husband Ken MacPheat (1970) and her husband Darwin Reid (1998), sister Dorothy Helmer, brother Walter Gee and parents William and Rebecca Gee. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Marion Solly, his sister Margaret (Wilcock) and nephew Bobby (Wilcock). Dad was born April 21, 1931 in Bulyea, SK. Growing up he had developed a great talent and love for sports, especially hockey. At age 15, while attending a Chicago Black Hawk's hockey camp in Moose Jaw, a hockey scout for the Montreal Canadians recognized his talent and signed him to play with their farm team, the Regina Pats. This brought him to Regina where he attended Scott Collegiate while playing for the Pats. He was an excellent defenseman and within a few short years became one of their star players. His exceptional talent and skill placed him third among a five-player NHL draft pick. During that time, he was picked up and signed by the P.A. Mintos Hockey Club (a farm team of the New York Rangers). Although a professional hockey career was imminent, Dad made the hard decision not to play pro hockey in order to pursue what would ultimately be his true passion and commitment in life, being a husband and father. In 1951, he married Irene Coutts and they made a permanent home in Regina where Dad continued to play hockey with the Regina Caps. One year later they were blessed with their first daughter, Debbie. Dad often joked of how he maintained his fine athletic form by walking his colicky daughter around on his shoulder for the first three months of her life. In 1958, they were blessed by the birth of their youngest daughter, Diane. Dad was delighted to see as she grew up that she had inherited his natural athletic ability and shared his love of sports. He was devoted to his daughters and was kept very busy being the girl's "extra-curricular activities" cheerleader and driving them to and from their numerous activities and events. He was a proud dad and a great husband and provider. He worked with Coca-Cola and London Life, and then spent twenty-five years as an account executive for Claude Neon signs. He was well known for his keen sense of humor, his intelligence, his solid work ethic, and his generosity. Above all, our father was known as a man of great integrity, a man of principle, decency and strength. Coming from a musically gifted family, our home was always filled with music, and one of Dad's greatest "personal" pleasures came from having his own dance band "Howie and the Jades" for over thirty years. The band, with Dad, singing lead vocals and playing piano, then Mom providing beauty and vocal harmony, his father, George playing drums, a guitar player, a saxaphone player, and an accordion player kept many wedding dances hopping well into the wee hours of the morning. Dad was strongly committed to community service and volunteer work and coached junior hockey leagues, was block captain for neighborhood watch, was a canvasser for many non-profit health organizations, was an active Lion's Club Member and later served as President of the Maple Leaf Lions Club, sang in his church choir, and was a member of the Regina Male Boy's Choir. He loved curling, played in and won many bonspiels, and for the past 15 years was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Callie Senior Men's Curling Club. To balance his hectic life Dad enjoyed travelling the world and spent many years at the cottage doing things he loved most; bird watching, taking kids skiing, fishing, entertaining friends and relatives, and enjoying a quiet read in his chair at the waterfront. He had a keen interest in genealogy and actively searched his British ancestry and he took great joy in having visited his relatives in England and Tasmania. After his retirement in 1989, he became a certified graphologist and spent many enjoyable times with his friend and mentor Ken Rodenbush performing their science of handwriting analysis at various events. In 1994, Dad and mom divorced after forty-two years of marriage, and shortly after, his sister Margaret died and he was diagnosed with Diabetes. Dad faced all of these challenges with dignity and strength. A strength he said that came from his deepening Christian faith and trust in the Lord and by learning how to "turn everything over to God" in order to experience God's love, comfort and peace. It was a blessing that he was able to establish an amicable relationship with our mother earlier this year. We feel a deep sadness at our loss and know his many friends and relatives will miss him. We will benefit from his example of character and gift of integrity and we will forever cherish his unwavering commitment to family. Thank you, Dad. TARR - Anna Rebekka (nee Thompson). On Tuesday, April 26, 2016, God saw her getting tired, and took Anna to her eternal rest. Anna was born on the family farm near Bulyea on February 19, 1923, the second eldest of 11 children. After attending school at Pengarth and Bulyea, she moved to Regina to obtain a teaching certificate. It was while teaching school at Burnside that she met and married Walter, the love of her life. Together they raised five children on the family farm at Craven. Anna was an active member of the local Ladies Aid. She milked cows, drove truck during harvest, and had a huge garden which would be canned and frozen for the winter season. Anna and Walter enjoyed square dancing, Shriner activities and travelling. Anna always wrote up a record of their travels, and school teacher that she was, they read like a history lesson. Anna and Walter retired to Menzies Place in Regina in 1977 and lived there until 2006, when they moved to Broadway Terrace. In the summer of 2013 Anna moved to Helping Hands Care Home. Anna was predeceased by her husband Walter in 2010; infant daughter Eileen; parents Paul and Ragna Thompson; brothers Gudmund, Arvid and Paul Thompson; sisters-in- law Hazel Tarr, Carol and Eva Thompson; brothers-in-law George Tarr and Glen Samuelson; and mother and father-in-law George and Ada Tarr. THOMPSON - Arvid Olav Thompson passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, April 12, 2007. Arvid will be lovingly remembered by Helen, his wife of 56 years; son Terry (Sandra); daughter Rayna (Brad Gellner); grandchildren Jill (Sheldon Panchuk) and Craig Gellner. He was predeceased by his brothers Gudmund and Paul. He is survived by his sisters Anna Tarr, Alvhild Thompson, Louise Statler and Elaine Samuelson; brothers Roald, Alfred, Einar and Karstein; in-laws and numerous other relatives. Arvid was born in the family home near Bulyea, SK on November 21, 1926. His love of knowledge and of children lead him to the teaching profession. He began his career in a one-room schoolhouse at Hart, SK at the age of 17 years. While teaching in Lockwood he met his wife Helen and they were married in 1950. Upon completion of B.Ed. and B.A. degrees, Arvid became principal in Rouleau where the family spent wonderful years and made many close friends. In 1963, they moved to Regina and Arvid assumed duties in the math department at the newly opened Campbell Collegiate where he taught until his retirement in 1983. Arvid loved the opportunity to work with young people and is fondly remembered by many former students. Family was most important in Arvid's life. He and his grandchildren looked forward to Saturdays that became known as "Papa's day. " Arvid and his beloved Helen were truly soul mates. They enjoyed spending time together and took pleasure in their travels to visit and learn about new countries. Arvid was an active curler and golfer, a member of the Royal Regina Golf Club and the proud recipient of a hole in one. He was a charter member of the Scandinavian Club and an active member of the Superannuated Teachers' Association. Reception to follow in Bulyea Hall. THOMPSON - Joel Eric Thompson (March 17, 1993 - October 21, 2010) Bulyea, SK. It is with unbearable sadness that we announce the passing of our son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, teammate and friend. Joel left us on Thursday, October 21 doing exactly what he loved playing hockey with his friends. He is predeceased by his grandfather, Lorne Appel and all of his great grandparents. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Jackie and Darrell, sister Jill Wiers and brother from another mother Cody Wiers, brothers Drew (Jessie) and Donavon, girlfriend Danilee Brown, grandparents Sylvia Appel and Einar and Barbara Thompson, aunts and uncles, cousins and many friends and teammates. Joel will always be remembered for his cheerful smile, friendly greeting "notbadnyou?" infectious personality and touchable curls. Joel never had a bad word to say about anyone, and was a great friend to all. Joel was very active in school sports, volleyball, badminton, track and golf as well as played thirteen years of minor hockey in Strasbourg, one year in Southey and his final year with Cupar. He also played several years of summer 3-on-3 hockey with buddies from several different communities. He played fastball on a local ball team in Bulyea with his Dad and brothers. Joel loved the outdoors, and in the summer could often be found in the family pool and in the winter, snowmobiling with family and friends. Joel had just bought his first truck in July and was so proud of it that he washed it every second day. Along with all of his extracurricular activities, Joel also worked at Digers, the local gas station. It was here, that he came out of his shell and really blossomed in to the great young man that he is. We would like to thank Joel's coaches, Strasbourg EMS and RGH staff for working so hard to help Joel. THOMPSON - Leona Pernella Ruth (nee Erlandson) passed away at the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit on July 23, 2009 surrounded by her family. Leona was predeceased by her husband Perry, parents Edward and Inga Erlandson, sister Esther Erlandson, as well as by Perry's parents, siblings and in-laws who were so important in her life. She will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her daughters Ruth Thompson (Wes) and Leila Thompson Flavell (Garry), grandchildren Leah Flavell (Ryan Kosh), Jesse Lee (Chris) Boehm, Josh (Sarah) Flavell, Leon Thompson, Max Thompson and great-granddaughter Reese Kosh, sisters-in-law Mildred Nordal, Mabel Harvey, and Helen Thompson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Canada, the USA, and Norway. Leona was born August 26, 1921 at Penzance, SK. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She received her education at Iduna and Craik Schools, Luther College, and Balfour Tech. She worked at BA Oil and for the federal government in Regina and Winnipeg before marrying her beloved Perry on October 27, 1951 and moving to the farm at Bulyea. Even after retiring from office work to get married she always enjoyed doing books for the farm. To the delight of her family she gardened (as a duty) and made everything from scratch -whether it was food (from butter to grandma buns to rhubarb juice to pie to traditional Norwegian dishes) or knitted sweaters, mittens and blankets, or scrapbooks for the grandchildren. Perry and Leona farmed together for 45 years. They retired to Strasbourg in 1996, but continued spending summers at the farm for several years. Leona was a faithful member of Norrona Lutheran Church and was involved in the life of the congregation in many ways, including teaching Sunday school, participating in ELCW, providing secretarial support to ministers, and serving on church council as treasurer for 24 years. She loved receiving letters and corresponded faithfully with many friends and relatives all over the world. She was a walking birthday and anniversary book who never forgot people on their special days. She loved visiting with her friends and her family her children and grandchildren above all and always had her visitors sign her guestbook. She kept track of the family history and enjoyed sharing it, along with stories from her childhood and early adulthood. She loved to travel almost anywhere, but her three trips to Norway were the highlight. Her spoon collection and meticulously maintained photo albums chronicled her travels. Leona was an interesting and interested person who will always be remembered with joy and gratitude for her caring, generosity, and faith. THOMPSON - Paul Reidar passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2004, with his family by his side. He was born March 9, 1929 on the family farm west of Bulyea where he resided all his life. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Ragna Thompson, an infant son Reidar Paul and sister in law Carol Thompson. He is survived by Lavina his loving wife of 47 years, daughters Raelene (Tony) Bocale, White Rock, B.C., Leanna (Brian) Cuddy, Sanford, Man., Patti-Lee (Andy) Sears, Port Coquitlam, B.C., and Sharilyn (David) Mushynsky, Regina, grandsons Leo, Jordon and Erick Bocale, Thomas Cuddy, Benjamin and Caleb Mushynsky and Aidan Sears, brothers and sisters, Gudmund (Eva), Arvid (Helen), Roald (Lorraine), Alfred (Deanna), Einar (Barbara), Karstein, Anna (Waltrer) Tarr, Alvhild Thompson, Louise (Mickey) Statler, and Elaine (Glen) Samuelson, sister in law Caroline (Verden) Yahnke and brother in law Sigurd (Myrna) Smith, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Paul farmed all his life, leaving school at the end of grade eight. Farming then was year round work. In 1956 Paul and Lavina were married and took over some of the home farm. He spent some years on the Regina and District Community Clinic, Wecan Credit Union, Bulyea Telephone Co. and Norrona Church Council. He enjoyed playing fastball and hockey. Beyond his formal education he was a life-long-learner who read widely in many areas including history, geography and agricultural issues. Perry began his farming career on the family home place at the early age of 14 years and continued to farm for 52 years. Perry married Leona Erlandson on October 27, 1951 at Central Lutheran Church in Regina. Perry and Leona farmed together for 45 years. Perry and Leona retired to Strasbourg in 1996 but continued spending summers at the farm for several years. The farm was Perry's favourite place to be. He loved the land and animals, especially his horses. Perry was community-minded and served many years on the boards of the Wecan Credit Union and Bulyea Co-op. He was an active member of the Wheat Pool and the initiator of many community projects. He was a charter member of Wecan Credit Union and the only living charter member before his death. Perry's involvement in the co-operative movement has been a life-long passionate belief and commitment. His contribution consisted not only of serving on boards but also instilling his beliefs in his children and grandchildren. Perry recounted Credit Union stories as part of the proud Thompson family history. He lived by example and supported the local organizations he helped to build, both philosophically and through patronage. Perry also served on the board of Norrona Lutheran Church and volunteered his time to the church throughout his life, remaining faithful for 94 years. Norrona is also a proud part of the Thompson history with Perry's dad helping to build Norrona. Perry treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren as well as visiting with friends and family. Perry enjoyed woodworking, music, games, nature and travelling. Perry and Leona's three trips to Norway, the land of his ancestors, were a source of great joy and fond memories. TORRIE - Phyllis Torrie (nee Pinkney) February 2, 1924 - December 8, 2013. On December 8th 2013 we lost our wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother after a brave fight against pneumonia. Phyllis is survived by Jim, her husband of 67 years; her children Shannon and Bill; her five grand-children Jamie, Craig, Sean, Steven and Katie as well as six great-grandchildren Chace, Kayden, Torrie, Jet, Rosie Rae and Griffen. Allen was a family man and enjoyed spending nights out with his wife, attending Taya and Tiana's school events, building vintage cars and hot rods with Corie and going for BBQ's and doing home improvements at Calynda's. Allen was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and brother. UHERSKY - Donnie 'Beever' Uhersky, age 72 years, passed away peacefully at Regina General Hospital on Saturday, May 17, 2014 surrounded by his family. Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dorothy "Faye"; four children: Darcy (Tammy), Kelly (Lori), Michele (Brent), and Cathy (Randy); nine grandchildren: Jason, Melissa, Jessica, Danny, Landyn, Haley, Rylan, Lauren and Julia; great-granddaughter Abigail; one sister; four brothers; and mother-in-law Mabel Gorrill. Don was one of nine children born in Crane Valley, SK, but grew up in Bulyea, SK. As a young man, Donnie was often called a busy beever, therefore the nickname 'Beever' stayed. Don went to SIAST early in his career and received his Journeyman Electrician. In 1974, he started his own business, Beever�s Electric. Don enjoyed the construction industry and made many friends along his journey. He enjoyed entertaining, dancing, spending time with his grandchildren, going for Dim Sum, camping, making sausage and getting together with friends to play cards. Living with kidney disease for approx. 10 years, Donnie endured dialysis for the last 8 years of his life, and never complained about the numerous doctors' visits, medical tests, pills and needle pokes. We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Stewart McMillan and his wife Cheryl for all of their care and support over the years. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Edie, daughters Crystal (Vern), Brenda (Stan), Candace and Tamara (Sam), grandchildren Shaunna, Brian, Travis, Samantha, Amber, Wayne, Rebecca, Justene, Jordan and Christopher who were the light of his life and were initiated into life with whisker rubs and tickles at an early age. Born in Regina, in 1940, the fourth child to Elgie and Mary, Dale was dearly loved by family and friends. Dale was an excellent athlete and an accomplished long haul truck driver who knew the highways and byways of North America like the back of his hand. Dale owned and operated his own truck as a lease operator to Titan Transport. He had a lovely tenor voice and enjoyed the company of his gospel tapes on his trips. Dale received his early schooling in the Bulyea and Gibbs district and then Caronport. Dale and Edie owned a dairy farm for several years. He was a partner in a corral cleaning business in the Preeceville area and finally made rural Kinley his home of choice in 1992. WILLCOX - Bertha Anna (nee Wild) January 3, 1916 - September 22, 2011. Ann was born in Frankslake, SK. to Richard and Bertha Wild. She was second in a family of eight: Phena, Ernie, Hank, Gus, Florence, Dorothy & Irene. She attended school in Regina and then worked at the Regina General Hospital for several years until she met and married Adrian Willcox from Bulyea. They farmed in the Bulyea area and raised three children: Judy, George and Earl. Ann has joined her husband Adrian in their Heavenly Home, and will be waiting there for the rest of the family to join her. Children: Judy (John) Ortt, George (Isabel) Willcox, Earl (Penny) Willcox; Grandchildren MaryAnn (Drew), Gerald (Lorilee), Lorraine (Larry), Carolyn (Stephen), Sandra (Cecil), Lori (Kirk); Great Grandchildren Jared, Megan, Luke, Jake, Matt, Mark, Austin, Nolan, Alastair, Heidi, Emily, Zachary, Simon, Abigail, and Rachel. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28 in the Strasbourg Alliance Church, Strasbourg SK. WILLIAMS - Avril (nee Torrie) February 7, 1924 � November 20, 2015. At the age of 91, Avril Williams of Gibbs, SK passed away in her beloved home, surrounded by love. Avril was predeceased by her dear husband Geoff Williams; parents Bill and Muriel Torrie; sister Jean Nieckar; parents-in-law Archdeacon and Mary Williams; brothers-in-law Doug Miller and Paul Chernick; sister-in-law Edith Williams. Avril is survived by her nephew (honorary son) Mel Nieckar; sister Bev Chernick; niece Paula (Alvin Rein), nephew Glenn Chernick (Riet) and their children Elise Jasper and Aaron Chernick and Elise's son Maxwell; sister-in-law Marge Miller; nephew Scott Miller (Anne Marie) and their children Rachel and Russell; nieces Nancy Miller (Pam) and Laura (Keith) Nicholson and their children Geoffrey and Scott. Geoff Williams, of Gibbs, SK died at the age of 91 at home with his family by his side. Geoff is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Avril; nephew (honorary son) Mel Nieckar; sister Marge Miller; nephew Scott Miller (Anne Marie) and their children Rachel & Russell; nieces Nancy Miller (Pam) and Laura (Keith) Nicholson and their children Geoffrey & Scott; sister-in-law Bev Chernick; niece Paula (Alvin) Rein; nephew Glenn Chernick (Riet) and their children Elise & Aaron. WISE - George passed away peacefully Friday, November 30, 2012 at the age of 87. He was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy (Zahm) in 2005. George is survived by his three children Greg (Dea), Daphne (Herb), and Delphine (Brad); grandchildren Michael (Danny), Tessa (Colton), Tyler, Brayden, Justin, and Alyssa; great grandchild Fallon; one sister Beth; his second wife Emily; and extended family and friends. Born to Lillian (Spray) and Jack Wise on December 29, 1924 at home above the "Spray and Wise" store in Bulyea, SK, his mother died when he was only 6 years of age. George and Beth were raised by their grandparents, George and Elizabeth Spray. The family moved several times, from farming, residing in Regina Beach and eventually settling in Regina. At one time, the family owned and operated Blue Bird Cafe at Regina Beach. George left high school in Grade 11 to join the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and became an Aeroengine Mechanic. He served from 1943 - 1946. Following WWII he made a career working with the Dept. of Public Health for Saskatchewan Hospital Services Plan (SHSP). Dorothy also worked for Public Health and there he met his future wife. They were married on August 31, 1951. Through the years he also farmed the Zahm farm in the R.M. of Pense 160. He retired from the government after "over 40 years of diligent service". Estranged for many years, George regained contact with his father in June 1974. They developed a new and lasting relationship. George was a loving father and grandfather who would do anything for his family, always ready to lend a helping hand no matter where or when. Dorothy and George had a special place in their hearts for their cats. He loved to play the accordion, piano and organ, always playing 'by ear'. He would sit on the toilet lid playing his accordion while each of his young children bathed. A live concert every Sunday night! George devoted many years to genealogy, researching the Wise family back to 1707. He also traced many generations of the Zahm family. George and Dorothy enjoyed many trips to Hawaii where they escaped the Saskatchewan winters. They were like 'Ohana' (family) to some of the hotel staff. As a widow, it was a big decision for George to move from the family home of over 50 years. He was one of the first to move into the Renaissance Retirement Residence. There he enjoyed new friendships, meeting Emily, eventually exchanging wedding vows. His changing health brought him to Parkside Extendicare in 2008. The family would like to thank the staff of Parkside Extendicare for their care and compassion. A graveside service will be held at Regina City Cemetery, Broad and 4th Avenue, Regina SK on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Please meet inside the gates at the 4th Avenue entrance. WOLTER - Herbert Carl. With great sadness we announce the passing of Herb Wolter on September 7, 2010 in his 91st year. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Illa of 54 years, his 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, as well as many friends. YOUNG - Edward John Young of London, ON, passed away peacefully in his 83rd year at McCormick Home in London on Monday, March 30, 2009. Edward was the beloved husband of Dorothy E. (Boorman) Young; dear father of Mary-Lou Gatward and her husband Dave of London, Sue Methuen and her husband Pat of Airdrie, AB, and John E. Young of London. He was also loved by his grandchildren Julie Fraser and her husband Scott, Mike Gatward and Richard Edwards-Jones and his great-grandsons Shawn and Christopher Fraser. Edward was the dear brother of Martha Miller of Nanaimo, BC, and Arnold Yung of Queensland, Australia. Edward was predeceased by his brothers Albert Yung and Walter Yung; his sisters Bertha Miller, Augusta Smith and Dorothy Thompson. He was also loved by his nieces and nephews. Edward served in the R.C.A.F. from 1949-1976. Friends were received by the family from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the A. YUNG - Walter George of Bulyea. After a courageous battle with cancer our father passed away September 18, 2005. Walter was born June 20, 1918 on the family homestead near Bulyea. Walter was predeceased by his wife Alice, parents John and Sophie, one sister and brother and many in-laws. He leaves to mourn daughter Loretta (Al) Opanavicius, sons Robert (Marjorie), Art (Marguerite), Allan (Penny), 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, several inlaws, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
