A private family interment followed in the Bienfait Cemetery. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Words just do not seem to be enough right now. We would like to thank each and every one of you a million times over for your support and generosity. Mom was treated very special by everyone during her 8 week stay in St. Joseph's and the Regina General Hospitals; right from admitting, to emergency staff, housekeeping, nursing staff and all of the doctors involved with her care. We appreciated being able to leave the hospital each night to try and enjoy what little sleep we could, knowing that Mom was being left in such good hands. We know your jobs are not easy, but are certainly appreciated and respected. We thank you all. The dozens upon dozens of cards we received, each with a special little memento about how Mom was remembered, really touched our hearts. The many phone calls to us offering assistance for everything from lodging, to trips to airports, to the lending of vehicles ... this was all very much appreciated. The financial support to "The New Regional Nursing Home", in Mom's memory, the dozens of bouquets of flowers and the overwhelming gifts of food were all received through tears just knowing how much people really do care when one is left with such a huge hole in their hearts. It is obvious that the "Mama" is the hub of the wheel in more families than just ours. The many handshakes, hugs and shoulders to cry on will always be remembered and were most certainly needed. The understanding the many employers had while we were going through this extremely difficult period in our lives most certainly did not go unnoticed. We thank you all. To Father Peter, for his many reassuring and comforting visits with Mom while she was in the hospital, together with his well spoken homily at the celebration of Mom's life, to the Catholic Church choir, the altar servers, the readers and the C.W.L. for the lovely lunch, you all did an exceptional job. Thanks to Doug Third for his heartwarming compassion and to Dustin Hall for his soothing voice and the amazing job you both did at the prayer service. And last but not least, to Dustin and his entire staff at Hall Funeral Services; you truly do provide a service with professionalism, compassion and integrity. It takes very special people to deal with families who are experiencing such devastation in their lives. You helped us as a family as well as looked after all of our individual needs, from the music, to the beautiful candles, to the special private, family interment. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Mom lived simply, loved generously, cared deeply, spoke kindly and left the rest up to God. - Sincerely, The Twelve "D's" and their Families

DZUBA - Mary Florence (nee Kolenz) September 11, 1925 - March 25, 2012. Mary Florence Dzuba peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2012, in Estevan at the age of 86 years. Mary was born in 1925, in what was then known as Prospect, in the Pinto District of the Souris Valley east of Roche Percee. She lived there until the Prospect Mine closed down, then her family moved to the Hawkenson Mine for a short while until the Prospect Mine reopened, and then her family moved back to Prospect. She was the fifth child of eight children born to Johann and Martha Kolenz. She went to school at Taylorton, after attending M&S School for a short while. Once she left school, she found jobs - often cooking for farm harvesters in various locations until she began working and cooking at the boarding house in Prospect, and then later at the boarding house at Western Dominion Mine. In 1944, Sam and Mary were married; they have been married for 67 years. Sam and Mary lived at Sam's parents for a few months, until they moved to live at the Taylorton Store when Sam began working for the Western Dominion Mine. Then they lived at Bank's mine for a year before moving to the Briquette Plant. Through these moves, they had started a family: Dwain then Val, Lee then Jack, and finally Dallas. In 1965, they moved to their current location. Mary started working as a cook's helper at the Bienfait hospital to help with expenses. She worked there until 1972, when she retired. Children were growing up, moving on with their lives, getting married and having children. Mary became a grandmother many times over, and later, she was great-grandma. Mary loved visiting with friends and family, playing cards, and enjoying various pastimes such as bingo and ceramics. They had a cabin at Kenosee Lake for a few years, when the lake was high and the fishing was plentiful. Sam and Mary later began camping and travelled to many lakes in northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Mary's love of nature continued throughout her life, from growing up and living in the valley to the regular drives through the valley Sam and Mary made to see what wildlife was around and the changes brought on by the passing of time. They enjoyed the many songbirds that return to their yard in the spring and mark the passing of time. Mary was a hard worker all her life and instilled that work ethic in her children. She had strong values and felt that family was most important. She was proud of her own mother and father and the life they made for themselves, as she was of her own children. She was the tie that bound the family together. Mary will be missed by all. Mary is survived by her loving husband, Sam, Bienfait; sons, Dwain (Pat), Roche Percee, Lee (Bernice), Estevan, Jack, Bienfait, Dallas (Lori), Bienfait, and daughter, Valery (George) Kirbyson, Surrey, B.C.; sister, Edith Panteluk, Estevan, 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Johann and Martha Kolenz; brothers, John, Frank and Victor; sisters, Ella Kolenz, Gertrude Graham and Joyce Kolenz; daughter-in-law, Janet Dzuba. Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 30, in St. Paul's United Church, Estevan with Rev. Brenna Nickel officiating. Interment followed in the Bienfait Cemetery. Thank You The family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph's Hospital for Mary's care during recent months. Thank you to the staff of Hall Funeral Services and Reverend Brenna Nickel of St. Paul's United Church for their support during this difficult time. Thank you to all those who helped at the Bienfait Legion for the lovely luncheon. Also, thank you to all friends and relatives for their thoughtful expressions of sympathy and support. - From the family of Mary Dzuba.

GESSELL - Dennis Edmund Gesell was born September 22, 1938 in Bienfait where his father Ed was teaching at Lignite. The times were stressful, especially for Dennis, who, at age 3, had to undergo a two-year absence from family for hip reconstruction at the Shriners Hospital in Winnipeg. He enjoyed his visits to the Haukeness/Lindgren farms and Christmas Eve was always special. On occasion he had to assume the role of Santa Claus, stuffed with pillows and ringing the cow bell to the delight of his younger cousins. The Gesell family always celebrated together on Christmas Day. Dennis was an observer content with his own thoughts; even with his limitations he took long walks and watched Mother Nature unfold around him. Employment was somewhat limited for him, working at Prairie Nurseries and short contract jobs during the summer months. He was also employed at times as a sign painter. His artistic skills - ever present - developed in pencil, pen, and water colours. Portraits and animals in pen and water colour were his specialties. Cartoons for the funny papers were drawn and published, but it's tough to gain recognition in the "art world." His Aunts appreciated and were delighted by Dennis's hand drawn birthday cards. Dennis also maintained a life-long interest in geography and history. The family recognizes the support of Dennis's best friend, the late Ray Fieber, his AA sponsor and the special residents Mrs. Colbow and Mrs. Kirk of Yardley Place (for their kindness and support). MCLEAN - Esme Joan (nee Gadd) July 29, 1924 - June 29, 2011. Esme Joan Gadd was born July 29, 1924 at the farm North of Bienfait to Bert and Agnes Gadd. Growing up she participated in 4-H Calf Club, and loved playing baseball. She spent many happy hours with her brothers and sister, Leonard, Alice and Edgar. After finishing school in 1944 at Bienfait Rural, Esme headed to Regina to attend Teaching College. In September 1944 Esme started her teaching career at Holbrooke, teaching from 1944-1946. She taught at Douglaston 1947-1948, South Alameda 1948-1950, Poplar 1950-1951. While teaching at Holbrooke, Esme had boarded with the Stuart McLean family. At that time she met her future husband, Donald McLean. December 19, 1951, Esme married Don in the United Church, Estevan. They started their married life 10 miles north of Alameda on the family farm. Esme was very much involved in daily activities for the many years they spent farming. She always had a large garden, raised cattle, chickens, turkeys, and the occasional duck or goose. She always had a dog and a favourite among the many cats. Flowers were one of Esme's great loves. She spent many hours arranging flowers for Flower Shows for a great number of years. She was also very active in the Dalesboro Church and served as treasurer of the UCW for years. Esme spent many falls in the old CCIL combine bringing in the harvest. To Esme's marriage three children were born, Ken, Murray, and Donalda. Esme was very proud of her children and always encouraged them to do their best. If ever a problem, she was there to guide them. As when she was a teacher helping and guiding young people, Esme continued to do this for the rest of her life. As with her children, Esme was a very large part of her grandchildrens lives. Tyler, Ryan, and Lisa spent many a happy hour with Grandma, as she lived just across the yard. Kathryn and Thrissa's visits from Calgary were always something she looked forward to. She was very proud of all her family. Once Esme retired from farming, she moved to Estevan. Here she met many new friends. Esme loved to visit and spent many hours at different activities, especially enjoying the new church family she'd found. When Esme suffered 2 heart attacks in 2009 she moved to Creighton Lodge. Here too she met a number of new friends. Upon hospitalization on May 3, 2011, she knew she was going to have to leave Creighton, but was looking forward to once again making a new move and meeting more new friends. Esme had many ups and downs during her 2 month stay in the hospital and in the end lost her battle Wednesday, June 29, 2011. She will be greatly missed by family and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents Bert and Agnes Gadd, her brother and sister, Leonard Gadd and Alice Shortreed, nephew and niece Robert and Barbara (infancy) Shortreed and numerous in-laws. Surviving her is her husband Donald, sons Ken (Diana), Tyler, Ryan, Lisa; Murray (Jana), Danny and Thrissa; daughter Donalda McLean (Mike Larocque), Kathryn; one brother Edgar (Diane) Gadd and a number of in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. PRYZNYK - Eleanor "Ella" Eva (nee Walliser) Pryznyk. Wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister, friend, pie baker, perogy maker. These are just a few of the many words which could be used to describe the life of Eleanor (Ella) Eva Pryznyk (nee Walliser). Ella passed away surrounded by her family at Regina, Saskatchewan on June 16, 2011. Daughter of Jacob and Matilda Walliser, Ella was born February 16, 1929 in Bienfait, Saskatchewan. She grew up in a large farm family near Hirsch and left school at a young age to help care for her family, a theme that would continue throughout her life she always found the time to love, care for (and worry about) those around her. Ella married Joseph Pryznyk in 1948 and they raised their family in the Bienfait area. As their children left the nest and their extended family grew, the demands on Joe and Ella's kitchen increased perogies and pies were Ella's specialty and she expressed her love for her grandchildren by providing highly sought after care packages. For 51 years, until Joe's death in 1999, Ella and Joe watched as their family grew. Her grandchildren were all special but Clark, being the youngest, held an extra special place in her heart. In addition to her family, Ella also found the time to be active in the community over the years she volunteered with the Canadian Diabetes Association; Bienfait Memorial Arena; Estevan Regional Nursing Home, Police Advisory Board, the Bienfait Legion, and was also a member of the Bienfait town council. Over the past number of years Ella also traveled to a number of places including Yellowknife, Mexico, Arizona and Alaska she always hated the journey but loved the destination. Always worried about being a burden, she would never wear out her welcome and we would always wish she had stayed longer. She is survived by children J. Grant (Karen) Pryznyk; Cheryl Pryznyk; Ed (Gale) Pryznyk; Tammy (Cory) Furman, and special family friend Jeanie Forman; grandchildren Jennifer Bond, Jonathan Pryznyk, Mary Kowal, J. Ryan Pryznyk, Jeff Pryznyk, Don Pryznyk and Clark Furman; great-grandchildren Hannah, Cameron, Emma, Ethan, Isabella, Lachlan, Grace and Aedan; brothers John Walliser, Tony (Doris) Walliser and Joe (Kay) Walliser and sisters-in-law Rita Walliser, Rose Walliser and Olga Cassidy, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Joe; son John; parents Jacob and Matilda; and siblings Mike Walliser, Jacob Walliser; Ole Walliser; Ralph Walliser, Emily Katrusik and Rose McNutt. Agatha was also predeceased by her husband Anton (Toni) Tuchsherer (June 15, 1912 - June 15, 1996) and her only sister Martha (Josef) Tuchscherer (August 25, 1916 - February 27, 1997), in Maple Ridge, B.C. Agatha is survived by two children, Josef (Loretta Gartner), Toronto, and Maria, Regina; three grandchildren, Anna Maria Tuchscherer, Queen Charlotte Islands, Paul (Cristina Fernandes) Tuchscherer, Toronto, Michael (Vicki Pasternak) Tuchscherer, Toronto, one great-grandson James Paul Tuchscherer, as well as several cousins in Canada and Germany. Agatha, like most Colelia residents, was a descendent of Germans, who emigrated about 1809 from Alsace-Lorraine, Germany, to southern Russia. At age 13 she left home to work as a maid in Konstanza (Black Sea). After marriage she and Toni established their farm in Colelia. Agatha's eventful life saw the repatriation from Romania to Luelsfeld, Germany, in November 1940, the management of a Polish farm near Leslau from July 1942 to the desperate flight in January 1945 with Josef and Maria west, back to Luelsfeld, and the return of Toni from the German army in November 1945. Wuerzburg was home from 1950 till the emigration to Canada in December 1952, to Bienfait, where Agatha and Toni lived till August 1, 1995. Agatha's passion was cooking; she generously shared her baking with family and friends. Her sincere, exuberant friendliness and humor touched all she met. Funeral will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Monica's Parish, Bienfait, Sask., Fr. L. Crozon officiating. Interment at Memorial Gardens, Estevan.

TWIGGER - John. (Estevan Progress, Thursday, November 11, 1920, pg. 5.) John Twigger Dead. There died last Friday morning at Miss Winteringham's hospital, Estevan, John Twigger, probably the most widely known old-timer in the Bienfait-Taylorton area. He was eighty years old, having been born in Bedfordshire, Eng., and a resident of Taylorton for 30 years. He opened a mine south of Taylorton over twenty years ago, and an attempt was made to float coal by barges down the Souris river to Winnipeg, via the Assiniboine and Red rivers. He died two days after going into hospital, dropsy being given as the cause. Despite his advanced years, he was a very vigorous man, and kept at his work of mail carrier between Bienfait and Taylorton until a short time before he was taken ill. He leaves a wife and two sons, to whom sympathy is extended in their bereavement. The funeral service was held at the home, and the pall-bearers were W. Baird, Ed. Robb, Clyde Harrell, A. Heminger, A. Edwardson and H. Bulmer. Burial took place at Taylorton Cemetery, the Rev. Mr. Snider officiating. It may truly be said of him that he faithfully performed that task in life to which God called him. Taylorton News: The weekly social was cancelled last Saturday owing to the death of Mr. John Twigger. Mr. Twigger was by far the oldest resident of this neighborhood and will be missed by a large number of friends. Bienfait News: Wm. Hemenger and Charlie Trigger were bringing home the body of the last John Trigger home in a casket and rough box from Estevan undertaking parlours last Friday evening, when they were ordered to stop by a provincial police officer. Hemenger states he stopped his car and the search began. Rather a gruesome search, I should imagine, but it goes to prove that even the dead cannot rest in peace these days. Communication: Last Friday the body of Mr. Twigger was being brought from Estevan to Taylorton in a car driven by W. Heminger, accompanied by Charley Twigger, son of the deceased. When about a mile or so out of Estevan they met a car driven by a provincial policeman. About a mile further on they heard a car give warning as though wanting to pass them. They turned out to let it go by, which it did for a matter of a hundred yards or so then stopped across the road and called on Mr. Heminger to stop. The policeman came up and demanded to know what they were carrying. On being told it was a corpse he asked whose. When told all particulars he proceeded to examine the car, after shaking the coffin. When he was satisfied he gave a curt remark that they could go on. The whole affair has left a very bitter feeling in this neighborhood, and I was requested to let you know about it. Duty is duty as we know, but I do think that such an incident as this shows pretty plainly that the provincial police methods could be considerably improved. I remain, Yours faithfully, E. BERT KEARNEY.
