ACKERMAN - Mabel (nee Davies) Gibson Ackerman passed away peacefully on July 2, 2011 at Shalom Nursing Home, Cupar SK. Mabel was born May 14, 1919 south of Abernathy. She married Robert Gibson September 1939; they had a son, Ronald. In 1966 Mabel married Max Ackerman, forming a blended family of seven children: Ron, Jose, Henry, Wilfred (deceased), Kathleen, Rose (deceased), and Steve. They lived at Bethune, until Mabel moved to Shalom, Cupar. She is survived by her children, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, greatgreatgrandchildren. A service will be held on July 7, 2011, at the United Church in Cupar, SK at 2:00 PM. Interment Cupar Cemetery. ACKERMAN - Stephen Daniel. Steve, late of Regina, SK, passed away with family by his side on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the age of 67 years. Predeceased by his father Maxmillion Ackerman, mother Matilda Ackerman and stepmother Mabel Ackerman; brothers, Wilfred Ackerman and Albert Ackerman; sister Rose Sharpe; brothers-in-law, Ken Sharpe and Walter Ermel. Steve is survived by sisters, Jose Ermel of Bethune, SK and Kathleen Ens of Vancouver, BC; brother Henry (Cathy) Ackerman of Richmond, BC; daughters, Melanie (Rich) Ackerman of Indian Head, SK., Jeanelle (Stu) George of Calgary, AB and Stephanie (Chris) Ackerman of Regina, SK; six grandchildren Damen, Trinity, Alan, Trent, Brooklyn and Kaia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews. Steve grew up in Bethune and later moved to Regina where he worked for Canada Post and was a committed member of the Army and Navy Veterans Club. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church, 425 Broad Street North, Regina on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. ACKERMAN - Wilbert Thomas Leo. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dad, grandpa, and husband, Wilbert Thomas Leo Ackerman. Wilbert was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September. He died in his sleep early Sunday morning, December 3, 2006. Wilbert was born on April 14, 1941 on his parents' farm at Bethune, north of Regina. He moved to Regina when he was 18, where he met the love of his life, Marian Seufert, at a dance. They were wed on October 27, 1962. Shelley was the first to be born, almost a year later, followed by Sandra, then Shawn, then Stacey, and then Shannon. Wilbert and Marian and their children lived in Regina until 1982, when they moved out to a small farm near Weyburn, Wilbert continued to work as a carpenter, building and renovating homes. Shelley moved away to BC to attend college, followed by Shawn and then Stacey. Wilbert and Marian decided to follow their kids and sold their farm and moved to Trail in 1991. They bought a house in West Trail, BC where they could garden to their hearts' contents. Wilbert was an integral part of the communities he lived in. He was always recognized immediately when he'd stroll in with his cowboy hat and boots, and a big smile and friendly words for anyone who would listen. In Trail, he coached the Special Olympics bowling team, square danced, and was very involved in the local council of the Knights of Columbus. He will be missed greatly - those cowboy boots will be very hard to fill. He leaves behind his eight grandchildren: Christopher, Thomas, Emily, Sarah, Madelaine, Clare, Olivia and Nicolas. The funeral was held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Trail, BC, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 8. BAILEY - Jessie (nee Blakely). It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Jessie Bailey, aged 97 years of Moose Jaw, Sask. Jessie passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, August 28th, 2012 at Providence Place in Moose Jaw. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 31st, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home (268 Mulberry Lane). Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Jessie was born in Bethune, SK. on December 28th, 1914, where she received her education. She graduated from Normal School in Regina and taught at Bethune and Bridgeford. Jessie married Truman Bailey on July 22nd, 1940 and together they farmed at Tugaske until 1973 when they purchased the farm north of Moose Jaw. She has resided in Moose Jaw until her passing. Jessie was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Margaret Blakley; brothers: Floyd, Thomas Achen (T.A), Baler, Gillis, Grant, Alvin; and her sisters Florence and Lodica. Jessie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 72 years Truman; daughters Shelley (Kelly) Anaka, Dora Lynn (Stu) Millard; son Frank (Goldie) Bailey; grandchildren Kristen (Ryan) Englot, Tigra and Logan Bailey, Krista (Scott) Dedrick, Brett (Sherece) Millard; great- grandchildren Grace and Lily Dedrick, Jacob and Jack Millard; sister Alice Dunkeld; as well as sister in law Irene Snetsinger. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and brother. On Tuesday, December 20, 2005 Ellis Robert went home to God at the age of 82 years. BATEMAN - Frances (nee Ames) passed away on June 1, 2005 with her family at her side. Frances is predeceased by her parents Pearl and Cleverton and brother Jack (Lucille). BEATTY - Elsie Martha (nee Seidler), passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2001 at the age of 91, at Kennedy Manor, Regina. Elsie was born and raised on the Seidler farm in the Disley area. She met Hubert Beatty at a dance at Ayr School and they were married on January 8, 1935. Elsie will always be remembered for the love and care for her family and her community and the great enjoyment of gardening and the outdoors and for her passion of curling. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Elsie leaves to cherish her memory, her grandchildren: Dean (Tracy) of Regina, Garth (Sheri) of Regina, Wanda (Burke) of Fort St. John, B.C, Cheryl of Calgary, Brent of Calgary and Kristine (fiance� Tony) of Calgary; great grandchildren: Richard, James, Emilee, Donavon, Sarah, Jayden and Marissa; brothers: Fred, Max, Carl (Blanche) and Alfred; sisters-in-law Katherine Seidler and Clara Beatty; plus numerous nieces and nephews. Elsie is predeceased by her husband Hubert on May 12, 1999; her son and daughter-in-law Jim and Mildred; her son and daughter-in-law Edwin and Marge; parents Max and Martha Seidler; brothers and sisters: Mary (Pete) Gehl, Olga (George) Russell, Gus, Clara, Martha and Art; sisters-in-law Helen and Madeline; and brother-in-law Clifford Beatty. At Elsie's request, no funeral services will be held. Her wish was for cremation and to return to the farm and outdoors that she loved. BLACK - Ada Mae (nee Curtis) was born in the Bethune District on April 8, 1918, and she passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2010 in Regina, at age 91. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Black in June 1984, as well as twelve siblings. She is survived by her son, Ken (Debra George) and daughter Bobbi (Rick Bates); and five grandchildren: Lauren Black, Erin Black, Colin Black, Madeline Bates, and Kira Bates, all of Regina. Ada is also survived by her sister-in-law Annie Curtis of Bethune; brother-in-law Lloyd Thistlewaite of Swift Current; and many nieces and nephews. Ada greatly enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren, friends and extended family. She was a gifted piano player who enjoyed playing for her friends at many household gatherings. An ardent Riders fan, a great maker of pies and a wonderful friend to all, Ada will be greatly missed. BLACK - Barbara Doris (nee Demorest), late of Regina, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the age of 80 years. Predeceased by her husband, Andrew Hunter; grandson, Cole Black; parents, Katherine and Melzar Demorest; one sister; and six brothers, Doris is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Dwayne) Johnson of Regina; son, Patrick (Trixie) Black of Weyburn; grandchildren, Gillian and Daniel Johnson and Baylee and Hayden Black; sisters, Bernice (Emil) Rutski, Fauquier, BC, Bessie (Joe) Butel, Southey, SK; brother, Perry (Madge) Demorest, Santa Clara, CA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Doris was born on the family farm at Southey on November 3, 1928. She married Hunter in 1946. They later farmed in the Disley area. BLAKLEY - Earl, late of Regina, passed away at the age of 93 years on Sunday, September 1, 2013. Earl was born at Bethune, SK. He was predeceased by his parents, Emma and Achan Blakely; his beloved first wife, Marjory; sister Sylvia (Tom) Walker; son Doug and son-in-law Bob Rupka. He is survived by his cherished wife Betty; daughter Heather (Bill) Pankratz; brother Murray (Amber) Blakely; daughter-in-law Sandra Blakely, grandchildren Julie (D'Arcy) Letourneau, (great-grandchildren Mikaela, Nevaeh and Lucien), Lori (Chad) Holt (great-grandchildren Ashley, Eric, Chloe and Tyler), Cameron Blakely (Shauna) and Curtis Blakely; five nephews; and step-daughters, Pat Kelln, Sharon (Lorne) Dunsmore, Rhonda (Dale) Ulmer and Debbie (Mel) Wolf, and their families. Earl was an air frame mechanic with the RCAF, stationed at Paulson, Manitoba for four years during WWII. His working life after the war was varied; from farm hand to short-order cook to town cop, settling on the career of mail carrier in Regina in 1954. He loved his work and made friends with many of his customers from different routes. In May of 1960, while on his round he pulled two children from their burning house; a third child, a baby in a crib, was removed by a fireman. In October of 1966 again while walking his route he came upon another home on fire. That time he helped a mother and two children escape to safety. For his heroic action local Union #30 of the Letter Carriers' Union of Canada presented him with a gold medal letter carrier crest, which he highly valued. It was estimated that he walked 375,000 miles and carried a weight load of 65 tons over the years. Earl was an Odd Fellow for 50 years (and insisted he'd be odd right to the end!). During those 50 years he was twice District 12 Past Grand Master. He had been a resident at Veterans Ward 3-6, Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, since November of 2010. Caregivers, support staff, recreation workers, physiotherapists and volunteers provided a wonderful sense of family and community, and we are deeply appreciative of the care he received at the hands of Dr. Van Heerden, nursing staff, Chaplin Jan, music therapists Amanda and Tyne, among others. Your tenderness provided an intimate and caring atmosphere in those final days. At Earl's instruction, cremation will follow and no funeral will be held. Interment will take place in Bethune Cemetery on Wednesday September 11, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Carla Blakley officiating followed by a private family dinner. BLAKLEY - Elva Myrtle. Mom was born in Pilot Butte, grew up and went to school in Bethune. Mom married Alvin Blakley and was a true homemaker. She was always there with a hot lunch at noon and waiting when everyone came home. Mom made all of her children�s clothing when we were young, as well as sewing for the figure skating club and volunteering for the war effort during WWII. Mom and Dad were avid sports fans, watching local curling, hockey and baseball and had season tickets to the Roughrider games for many years. Mom was an avid card player and also enjoyed fishing trips, picnics and wiener roasts with family. In later years, Mom took up crocheting and quilting, making many blankets for her grandchildren and Blankets for Canada. Bingo at Wheatland Seniors� Centre was one of Mom�s favourite activities in recent years. Mom was very happy to have stayed in her own home until 96. In accordance with Mom�s wishes, cremation has occurred and there will be no funeral service. At a later date, Mom will be placed beside Dad in the Bethune Cemetery. BLANCHARD - Hazel Annie (nee Cooper), age 87 years, went to her Heavenly home, Sunday, April 9, 2006. Predeceased by her parents Chester and Olive Cooper; two brothers Ellwood (Margaret), and Clifford Cooper; sister Alice Braumberger. Hazel is survived by one sister-in-law Gwen Cooper; brother-in-law Ernie Braumberger; two cousins Annie Dodds and Mary Glass; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. BRADLEY - Archie (November 14, 1928 - August 16, 2012). Archie Bradley passed away peacefully on August 16, 2012 at the age of 83 years. He was born in Kedleston, SK and married Silvia on July 20, 1957. Archie was predeceased by his parents and 3 sisters. Archie is survived by his wife, Silvia; his children, Pat, Randy (Donna), and Cindy (Rick); 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, one brother and three sisters. Archie touched the hearts of many people and will be remembered for his gentle, loving and compassionate personality. BRADLEY - Silvia (nee Procktor) September 19, 1932 � October 28, 2014. Silvia passed away peacefully on October 28, 2014 at the age of 82 years with her family at her side. Silvia was predeceased by her husband of 55 years Archie; her parents; one sister and one brother. She is survived by her children Pat (Jamie), Randy (Donna) and Cindy (Rick); seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Silvia loved life to the fullest and will be missed by all. On Sunday, December 19, 2010, Gwendolyn Mary Brierley of Grenfell, SK passed away at Country Lane Care Home in Pilot Butte at the age of 90 years. She was born at Bethune, SK, the eldest of five children of the late Donald and Eva Campbell. She was predeceased by husband Lionel, daughter Carman Fehler, sister Betty Olynik, and brother Ken Campbell. Gwen is survived by son Don (Marlene) Brierley; sonin-law Rick Fehler (Debie Clermont); grandchildren Lincoln Brierley (Christine Loar), Doug Fehler, Sonya Fehler, Renatta (Todd) Fry; great-grandchildren Quaid and Corbin Fehler; Grady, Rogan, Turner and Zaya Fry; brothers John (Pearl) Campbell and Donald (Kay) Campbell; sister-in-law Grace Campbell; many nieces and nephews and members of Lionel's family. After years of teaching in the rural Saskatchewan town of Grenfell, her many contributions to the community at large led to the honour of being awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit (Volunteer Medal) in 2001 and the Commemorative Medal for the Centennial of Saskatchewan in 2006. She will be deeply missed by her family and all those to whom she left a legacy of selflessness and caring for others. A memorial service will be held in Grenfell United Church on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. BROWN - Charles Howard Brown, of Moose Jaw and formerly of Regina, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital on Sunday, October 24th, 2004, after a long battle with cancer. Charles was born in Bethune, Saskatchewan on December 5th, 1916. He was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Vida Brown, Verna, his loving wife of 38 years, brother Lloyd, and infant grandson Ian. Charles is survived by his daughter, Audrey (Jack) MacDonald of Black Falds, AB; son, Gordon (Gail) of Melville, SK; son, Ken (Sharon) of Regina, SK; daughter, Arlene (Grant) Nicklin of Prince Albert, SK; brother, Elgan (Jennie) of Hope, BC; and sister, Doreen Bently of Moose Jaw. Charles also leaves to mourn his very special friend, Marie Richardson of Moose Jaw as well as thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Charles served overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II. After serving his country, he was employed with the Dept. of National Defence in Regina, and later C.F.B. Moose Jaw until he retired after 33 years of service. He offered his service to many organizations including president of Haultain Home and School, Scout leader, Air Cadet Instructor, Corps de Commissionaire, and member of the Chalmers United Church Board. He did all of this while helping Verna raise their four children and numerous foster children. Upon moving to Moose Jaw in 1963, he continued his volunteer work which included the development of the Timothy Eaton Centre, XYZ Club, volunteer driver for 20 years, choir member at St. Andrew's United Church, and member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 59, and ANAVETS Moose Jaw. Charles especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Charles embraced life with vigour, and his kindness and fairness will live with all who knew him. A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, October 29th, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Andrew's United Church, Moose Jaw with Rev. Peter Calhoun officiating. BUCKINGHAM - John Buckingham of Bethune, SK passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at the age of 86 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Bette (Kozak) and their five children, Bruce (Yvonne), Gordon (Lori), Cathy (Steven), Beverly (Allan) and Brett (Tracy); six grandsons, Jason, Matthew, Braden, David, Mitchell and Michael; four granddaughters, Kelly, Jodi, Livia, Reese; and two great-grandchildren, Riley and Taylor. John was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by two sisters in Saskatchewan and is fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many life-long friends. John grew up in Yellow Grass where he met and married Bette. They relocated a number of times and finally settled in Bethune with John serving as General Manager of the Co-op store and service station for more than 20 years. He was a man of many self-taught skills and a strong community supporter. He was a long-term member of the 50+Club, loved wood working and playing the harmonica, and was especially fond of family get-togethers and camping trips. John and Bette relocated to Winnipeg in 2009 to the Dakota House seniors housing facility. As always, John (and Bette) immediately made new friends and became well known members of their new community. She is predeceased by her husband Lawrence, parents Fred and Jessie Fishley of Bethune, Sask., brothers John, Freddie, Gillis, Bruce, sisters Jessie and Pearl. Hazel is survived by sisters, Ruby Klatt, Wilma Trumbley, Reta (Jim) Kennedy, Helen Kufley, as well as brothers Stuart (Rose) and Blake, as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in the Pasqua Hospital at the age of 74 years. He was born in Regina on December 12, 1935 and lived his early years in Disley, SK until the family moved to Regina in the fall of 1946. Bill enjoyed growing up in the Rosemont neighbourhood and his days were filled with playing hockey and other sports with his friends. He spent his adult years working of CN, Moore's Taxi and was most fulfilled while selling aerial photography to farmers all across Saskatchewan for Heenan Photography. He loved rural Saskatchewan and enjoyed all the little communities along its many roads, especially the grain elevators. Ever the salesman, an added bonus was meeting all the special people along his travels. Bill will be lovingly remembered by Ruby, his loving wife of 53 years; children, Brian (Amanda) Burlock, Caron (Roy) Dueck and Darrin (Patti) Burlock; grandchildren, Lynette, Megan, Caleb and Cailin; brother, Aubrey (Judy) Burlock; sister, Ruth Fahselt, along with numerous nieces, nephews and his coffee friends. BURNETT - Mary Elizabeth (nee Fishley) was born June 20, 1911 and passed away the morning of Friday, April 6, 2007 quietly with her family at her bedside. Predeceased by her parents William and Elizabeth Fishley, her husband Bill Burnett and her daughter Patsy Wasyliw. Mary is survived by her two daughters Marilyn (Jim) Oliver and Lynne (Grant) Stewart, and her two grandchildren Mark and Laura Stewart. Mary and Bill farmed at Bethune. After Bill passed away in 1961, Mary and her three daughters moved to Regina. Mary worked at Home Electric Bakery and later with home care for the Family Services Bureau. She worked for them well into her 70's. Mary was proud of her children and particularly proud of her grandchildren. Born and raised in Bethune, Sask, Isabel is survived by her daughter Frances Garbutt, two grandsons, Wayne Garbutt (close family friend Robin Douglas), Keith (Brenda) Garbutt, two great grandsons Tanner Garbutt and Cody (Jennifer) Garbutt and great, great grandson Hunter Garbutt. COJOCAR - Mary (nee Banda), our Granny, passed away quietly on November 27, 2005 at the age of 89 years. Mary is predeceased by her husband, George Cojocar (1984), and her brother Tom Banda. Mary spent the last two years at Sunset Extendicare where the care and kindness she received was greatly appreciated by her family. CRUSH - Dorothy Mary Janet(nee Dillabough) passed to her eternal rest on December 19, 2011 following several months of failing health. She was born on the farm south of Findlater to E. H. (Ted) and Elizabeth (Bessie) Dillabough and grew up there with her siblings J. B. (Joe), Myrtle (Madden), Hazel (Ward), Nelly (Dauncey), W. E. (Teddy) and Ray. She attended Westridge School. As a teenager she stayed home to be a caregiver to her mother and moved with her family to Regina. In 1942 she married Walter Crush, her childhood sweetheart. Together they worked hard, overcame many trials and setbacks and provided a loving home for their children: Gloria (Knud Mikkelsen), Doug (Raelyn) and Ron. Her family and her home were what Mom valued most. She took great pride in her garden and yard and will be fondly remembered for her fresh bread, buns, cookies and pies that were always cooling in her kitchen. She spent many years as a gifted seamstress and enjoyed painting several buildings around the country. Her grandchildren: Trevor (Robin), Leanne (Paul Thoroughgood), Michelle (Kristoffer Schultz), Susan, Mitchell (Dorelle), Regan and Courtney (Ashton Igini) will always remember Granny for her words of wisdom on many diverse topics and her love of a few good games of cribbage. Great-grandchildren: Lexi (Erik Stober), Jessica, Nolan, Nicholas, Emelia, Bleyd and Cole and two great-great-grandchildren, Zealan and Finlan also brought great joy to Granny. She said she was rich beyond words because of the family that surrounded her. CURTIS - Anne (nee Thompson), late of Bethune, SK, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the age of 96 at Lumsden Heritage Home, where she had resided for the last nine months. She was predeceased by her parents, Herb and Agnes Thompson; her two brothers, Irwin and Clarence; her husband Gilbert; son Phil; and daughter Vera Clow. Anne is survived by her son Ray of Edmonton, AB; daughter Sharon (Bob) Lamb of Regina; Yvonne Evans of Bethune; Lois (John) Urquhart of Kingman, AB; and daughter-in-law Ivy Wagner of Regina. Hugh Curtis of Bethune passed away peacefully with family at his side on Monday, October 25, 2004 at the age of 78 years. Hugh was predeceased by his parents William and Mary; his brother Willis; and his beloved wife Jessie. He is survived by his sons, Barry (Mona), Gary; daughter Pat (Mike); daughter-in-law Cathy; sister Mildred; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Hugh was truly a son of Saskatchewan. He spent his entire life working the soil and raising cattle at the family farm just outside Bethune. Moving to town just a few years ago he continued to help out with chores and took an interest in the farming operation until his passing. An avid curler, Hugh will be missed by his many friends who he spent time socializing with. April passed away at home with her family and friends around her after a courageous battle with cancer, facing her illness with great strength, grace, and dignity. April is predeceased by her parents Rose and William G. Davies and survived by her partner Garry Walsh of Bethune, SK, stepmother Theresa Davies, brother and sisterin-law Tim and Joanne Davies, sister and brother-in-law Barbara Sapergia and Geoffrey Ursell, brother and sister-in-law Jon Davies and Val Snitzler, and many friends. April spent her childhood years in Moose Jaw, moving to Regina where she attended the University of Regina and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree with Great Distinction, and later moving to Bethune in the early eighties where she spent the remaining years of her life. April was a very accomplished editor and spent several years of her career working with writers at the Saskatchewan Writers Guild, later with Warrens' Farm & Ranch publications in Bethune, and most recently as a writer and editor with Warren Communications, where her literary skill and excellent judgment were a valuable contribution to the business. April will be fondly remembered by her friends and family for her keen intellect, generosity, compassion, and personal integrity. DILLABOUGH - Emily Olive (nee Dauncey) passed away on November 23, 2002 at the age of 85 years. Olive was born on July 29, 1917 in the Bethune District of Saskatchewan and she lived and worked her entire life in Southern Saskatchewan. She will be remembered for her beautiful gardens and her dedication to her jobs. Olive is survived by her sons Al (Shirley) and Don (Karen) and daughter Rita (Ed); six grand children; Kelly (Garth), Trevor (Jodi), Shaun, Treena (Jeff). Todd (Leslie) and Troy (Carolyn); as well as great grand children Sarah, Ty, Emma, Shania, Joseph, Kate and Wanyi. She was predeceased by her parents James Russell and Emma Dauncey, her sister Hazel Pomeroy; her brothers; Moral, Wilmot, Elmer and John and survived by sisters Thelma McKecknie and Muriel Anderson. Ray passed away peacefully at the Kelowna General Hospital with his family by his side on August 26th, 2007. She enjoyed curling and was Kevin Martin's # one fan. One of her proudest accomplishments was raising her premature twins after being told by the Dr. that they wouldn't survive. On Thursday, April 19, 2007, Anna Doris Dodds, widow of Arthur Dodds, Fort Qu'Appelle, Sask., died at the age of 92 years. She had a great zest for life, proudly belonging to the Echo Ridge Ladies Golf Club, the Senior Bridge Club and the Valley Scarlet O'Hatters. Doris loved to travel and visit exotic locations from trekking through the rain forest in Costa Rica to walking the beaches in Cuba, Hawaii, Mexico, golfing in the southern states....to riding camels in Moroccoshe did it all. Her friends were very important to her. Thanks so much to all of you for your love and support especially this past year. Diana Marie Eddy (nee Bokinac) was a devoted wife to Donald and joined her husband of 63 years after his recent passing December 26, 2010. They are forever now together. Diana leaves to cherish her memory three children, Marion Idiens (Al) of Prince George BC, Gordon Eddy (Deb) of Fort Fraser BC, and Sharon MacDonald (Robert) of Stirling AB, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grand child. She was predeceased by her loving husband Donald Eddy, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Luba Bokinac, two sisters Agnes and Mildred, brother Mike Bokinac, sisters Jennie Turnbull, and Katie Beck, and granddaughter Jeannine Levesque. Diana was born on January 27, 1920 at Avonlea, Sask. Her early childhood was spent on the farm. The family eventually settled in Gladstone district where she attended school. She completed school at Grade 8. Diana came to work for the Eddy's as a hired girl helping on the farm. Love blossomed and after WWII when Donald returned home back to the farm they were married on June 21, 1947. Together they farmed and raised their three children at Bethune Sask. Later in life they retired in the village of Bethune to enjoy family and friends. Diana had a green thumb and prided in her weed less garden and flower beds. She was a strong woman who helped provide for her family by raising a Purebred Aberdeen Angus herd, and fowl in the tough years of farming. Many a cow was sold to put food on the table or fix broken glasses. She was proud to serve her community in various organizations such as the 4H grain Club, the Bethune Seniors Centre, Bethune United Church Choir, TOPS, and the Royal Canadian Legion and Lumsden Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Lutheran Church in Lumsden Sask. Later in life she moved to the Manor in Lumsden, until her passing, to be closer to Don who resided at the Heritage Home in Lumsden. Diana enjoyed chatting and playing cards with her many friends and family. She also shared her crochet items for many community raffles. We will all miss her famous brownies. Diana will be remembered as a hard worker, loyal friend and loving mother who will be missed by many. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Eddy on Sunday, December 26, 2010. We share our joy in the wonderful memories of this special man. Don passed away after a lengthy illness while residing at Lumsden Heritage Home the past few years. He was born on the Belledune Farm in Bethune, SK on August 9, 1912. Don lived to a grand age of 98 years. He was predeceased by his parents T. M. and Mary Eddy, an infant brother Harold, brother Morgan (Mary), and granddaughter Jeannine Levesque. Don is survived by his loving wife Diana Eddy (nee Bokinac); daughter Marion Idiens (Al) of Prince George, BC; son Gordon Eddy (Deb) of Fort Fraser, BC; and daughter Sharon MacDonald (Robert) of Stirling, AB; as well as numerous grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and one great-greatgrandchild. Donald was raised on the farm at Bethune. He graduated from Normal School and taught in various communities in Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the RCAF in WWII as a radar technician and was posted in Scotland and India. At the end of WWII he returned to farm with his brother Morgan and married his devoted wife Diana on June 21, 1947. Together they farmed for many years and retired in Bethune. Donald had a life passion for mechanical things, always thinking up new ways to get tasks done. He taught himself Spanish, played five instruments, and even played in a band at dances in the community. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Sons of Scotland and a Mason. Many hours were spent fishing and playing Aggravation with family and friends. EVANS Evans: Elmer Roy Evans was born December 16, 1929 to Hugh and Eva Evans on a farm southwest of Findlater. He would be the oldest of eight siblings. He was soon joined by brother Clarence in 1932. In 1935, the family moved four miles east of Bethune. They lived in that house until 1940. Elmer started school in Bethune. As the family grew, his parents bought a farm seven miles north of Bethune, which is still farmed by the Evans family. Elmer started working away at neighbouring farms at the age of 16-17. He did this for several years. It was his way of helping out the family as it continued to grow. In 1954, Elmer started with Ramsay and Bird Road Construction, living in the camps in the summer, sometimes returning home in the winter, sometimes working in the shops in Regina. He continued to work for Ramsay and Bird for 23 seasons, returning home to help with seeding and harvest whenever possible. Elmer was a bit of a prankster as he was always playing tricks on his Ramsay and Bird and later Sask Forest Products coworkers. Elmer met his first wife, Nora, a cook in the Ramsay Bird camps. They were married December 12, 1970. Elmer continued to work for Ramsay and Bird until 1977 and then stayed in Carrot River to be with Nora in their home. Not one to sit around, he soon started work with the Carrot River lumber mill and continued working there until 1994. Upon retiring, Elmer took up gardening and he took it up with a passion. He was very proud of it. Anyone who came by always left with a box, two, three bags of fresh produce. If not in his garden, he enjoyed fishing trips with his buddies out to Tobin Lake. He was known for his canning of the fish. Elmer would set up the perfect tree (not a branch gap to be found) a week before Christmas and every year his granddaughter Gaye would go in and decorate it. He would place a chair beside it so she could reach at least three quarters of the way up. At Christmas, the family would surround the kitchen table and Elmer would be at the desk writing back to the family on the highlights of the year (primarily weather, family and farming) and he would read out loud the received family letters. Christmas in Carrot River was all the family including grandchildren enjoying time at Elmer and Nora�s visiting at the table or hanging out after too much turkey in the basement rec room Elmer built for the kids. In winter Elmer would be up bright and early, out shoveling or snow blowing the driveway. He would come back in, frozen, after it was perfectly flake free and give updates on the temperature and wind chill. If the grandchildren were there he would remind Nora to watch the kids to make sure the kids did not go out without their mitts on. Seventeen years of prank exchanges between Gaye and Elmer started with Gaye initiating it by tying together the laces of his big, brown, steel-toed work boots that sat beside the back door. Three weeks later, he retaliated by triple knotting her footwear together. The pranks evolved and included finding dried eggs shells or potato peelings in jacket pockets or other footwear. During her high school years, potatoes and the occasional can of soup or empty bottle would be tucked into her duffle bag. If she missed inspecting it before leaving the house, she imagined Elmer sitting at home having a chuckle at her expense when she made the find at school. None of the grandchildren were spared from the pranks; from his other granddaughter Angela to the four girls Elmer and Nora welcomed into their home for lunches or after school care, all have fond memories of these times. Elmer would sit and have lunch with the girls, teasing them about school while they enjoyed Nora�s famous soup or macaroni made with Elmer�s famous canned tomatoes. He enjoyed radish and sardine sandwiches or maybe the big-eyed look on their faces as they wondered if those would be served to them the next time they were there. Spring, summer and fall, Elmer was an outdoors man. When he wasn�t working at the mill or at Bud�s having coffee with friends, he was out fishing and hunting with his family. He was an avid gardener, researching his weather notes from years before and the local farmer�s almanac. He would grow the most impressive garden � not a weed in site. Being on the edge of the elementary school ground, it was a miracle it was never raided. Elmer was a quiet, hard working, dependable, caring husband, as a friend he was an ear to share the stories of the day, tell you a fish story or give a hand when you needed it, as a grandfather, he was a caring prankster that was well respected and loved. Some years after losing Nora in November 1997, Elmer started making trips south to Bethune. In June of 2002, Elmer and Betty Sigmeth were married and retired to Moose Jaw. Again his passion for gardening, canning and sharing continued. He left the farm but when he was living in Moose Jaw, there wasn�t a week that went by without him phoning three � four times, maybe every day in the week or drove out to see for himself. He very much wanted to be in the loop. Elmer and Betty sold their house in Moose Jaw and moved into a condo in the fall of 2013. Even then he found somebody nearby that had a garden plot so he could still plant some garden. After Betty passed away in November of 2016, Elmer no long wanted to cook and as his health declined, he moved into St. Michael�s Care Home in January 2017. This was his home until he moved into Craik Care Facilities in October 2017. He passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Elmer was predeceased by his first wife Eleanore, his second wife Betty; parents Hugh and Eva Evans; and three brothers, Clarence, Murray and Donald. Elmer is survived by his sisters, Della (Mike) Shalley, Margaret Dereniwsky and Dorothy Nicholson; one brother, Jim (Carol); two sisters-in-law, Yvonne Evans and Donna Evans; two step-sons Edward and Marvin Sigmeth; as well as several nieces and nephews. FISHLEY - Gilbert Earl passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Extendicare in Moose Jaw. Loving father of Garnet, Trevor (Jackie), Holly (Bill) Janzen and Larry (Sheila). Cherished grandfather of Ashley (Sean), Riley, Tyler, Ryan, Dayna, Brianne (Adam), Josh, Brooke and Lexie. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends. Earl was born in Bethune SK, to Albert and Edith Fishley on November 29, 1917. He grew up on the family farm but left to serve his country faithfully during WWII. He was proud to serve his country, and remained an active legion member until recently. He returned to farm following the war and was married to Beatrice in 1953. The couple raised their 4 children on the farm in the Waldorf District near Bethune but later moved to Moose Jaw in 1978. Even following their move to Moose Jaw, Earl and Beatrice remained active on the farm until its sale in 2003. Herb was born at Isle of Angelsey, Wales. He came to Canada in 1921 and settled in the Waldorf District near Bethune, Sk. Herb's first love was his family. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, checkers, visiting with people and telling stories. his warm personality and love of people led him to a partnership that developed the Resort Village of Valley View, known to many as "Herbie's Beach." Herb farmed in the Waldorf district and attended many fairs and exhibitions to show off his Aberdeen Angus and sheep. Herb's favourite pastime was telling stories about the RCMP training at his cottage/farm at Buffalo Pound Lake where he ran a store and boat rental shop. Herb also loved to garden. Many cottage owners in the area enjoyed his produce. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him, but his stories will live forever. On Thursday, December 6, 2001, Peter (Pete) Gehl of Regina peacefully passed away at the age of 90 years. Born into a homesteading family with 13 children near Bethune, Pete knew the joys, responsibilities and hardships of pioneer life and the Great Depression. These experiences and many others throughout his life, gave Pete an ever constant belief in hard work, innovativeness, good neighborliness and progressive thought and action. During his farming life, Pete was a member of the Saskatchewan and National Farmers Unions and Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. He was an ardent supporter of peace. Pete will be deeply missed by Edith, his wife of 50 years; his children: Peter; David (Roberta), Robert (Bernadette) and Bill (Joanne); grandchildren: Ryan (Delphine) and Angela, Adrienne and Ian, Richard (Michelle), Matthew and John; and great-grandchildren: Zachary and Lyndon. GRIERSON - Dorothy Jean, born February 6, 1941, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit. She was predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Kathleen (Vance) Grierson and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Dorothy is survived by cousins, Helen Van Alstine (Jim), Carol Bevis, Norma Vance and by special friends, Lynne Demeule, Florence Matt and Brad Stovra. Dorothy was born in Bethune and lived in Disley, Lumsden and Regina all her life. She was proud of the 31 years she worked at the Medicare Department with the Department of Health in Regina. She enjoyed watching the Saskatchewan Roughriders and writing letters to Rob Vanstone at the Leader Post with her words of wisdom. She had season tickets for many years and attended the 1966 Grey Cup game in Vancouver and the 1995 game in Regina. Dorothy also enjoyed travelling and had many trips with her mother. These included trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas (where she saw her favorite singer Elvis), Alaska, the Panama Canal and various spots in the United States and Canada. Special thanks to all her care givers over the years, especially the Saskatchewan Abilities Council. Dorothy was born with cerebral palsy. She coped with those challenges with determination and achieved many of her goals in life. By her request, there will be no funeral service. A gathering to celebrate Dorothy's life will be planned for a later date. Interment in Bethune Cemetery. GRIERSON - Kathleen W. (nee Vance). On Tuesday, April 23, 2002, Kathleen, late of Regina. Predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Grierson in November 1984; parents, Robert and Martha Vance; sister Mae Thompson; two brothers, Fred Vance and Elmer Vance, a pilot officer in World War II; niece Barbara Silvester. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Garth Hannan. Garth was predeceased by his wife Brenda Gail Hannan (nee Mucha); his parents Lawrence and Annie Hannan (nee Lario); and Gail�s parents Peter and Evelyn Mucha (nee Vance). Garth is survived by his sisters Marilyn (Robert) Peterson, Marlene (Laurie) Wuschke; brothers Grant (Barb) Hannan, Russell (Shirley) Hannan; children Kelly (Tanya) Hannan, Kimberly (Kevin) Kehoe; grandchildren Carley and Jacey Hannan, Samantha and Conor Kehoe; companion Helen Barss; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and a wonderful group of friends. Garth began his life on the family farm in Willmar, SK. In 1954, the family moved on to Radville, Keystown, Briercrest and then Pense. Garth cherished many of the great friends he made in the Pense and Bethune area. Garth married Brenda Gail Mucha on March 30, 1968 and they settled and raised their family in Bethune, SK. Garth held many jobs in the Pense area in his early years then went to work for Ipsco, and finally Midwest Pipeline Contractors until his retirement in 2006. Garth spent his retirement spoiling his grandchildren, visiting with many friends around Bethune and lending a hand to anyone who needed it. His generosity, kindness and friendship will be missed by many. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at Bethune Cemetery on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow at Bethune Community Hall. HARVEY - Jean (nee McKechnie) passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2002 after a brief battle with cancer. She will be deeply missed by Verne, her husband of 54 years; daughter Wilma (Gordon) Ward and their children Eric and Tanya; and son Wayne (Helen) and their children Lindsay and Allison, all of Regina; also one brother Robert (Marion) McKechnie of Regina. Born and raised near Bethune, SK, Jean taught at several rural schools before her marriage. Verne and Jean farmed in the Tregarva district until their retirement to Regina in 1991. The family of Fred Headford is deeply saddened to announce the passing of their loving husband, father, and grandfather on Tuesday, November 20, 2007. Fred is survived by his devoted wife, of 51 years, Barbara; son John and wife Mary Ann and children Jesse, Brandon and Julie of Bethune; daughter Marjorie and husband Mike Gavigan and children Sarah and Denis of Regina; daughter Kathleen and husband Jerry Schropp and children Justin, Meghan and Tammy of Bengough; daughter Vanessa and husband Len Chypiska and daughter Dionne of Dilke; sister Noreen Redford of Victoria, BC; brother Norman and wife Sophie of Lumsden; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Fred was born in December of 1924 and spent his entire life except for the last two years on the family farm near Kedleston. He met and married Barbara Camp in 1956. Together they raised four children and managed a growing farm operation. They also traveled back to England several times, Australia and points throughout Canada and the US. He was very active in the community serving over 40 years on the Bethune Co-op board; 28 years crop reporting for Sask Ag and Food; actively involved with the Red Cross; and was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for over 55 years, serving as Grand Master and Grand Patriarch for Saskatchewan. Fred lent his many talents to several other community organizations at Kedleston, Bethune and Regina. Farming was in his blood and he reluctantly moved to Regina only when his vision made it impossible to continue on the farm. He still loved to go out to help and spent 5 days this fall during harvest on the farm. On Thursday, February 16, 2006 Jesse Hemmings, late of Regina, formerly of Bethune, passed away at the age of 77 years. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, father-in-law and grandfather, Tom Hipkin. With his sons at his side he passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2002 at the Lumsden and District Heritage Home in Lumsden at the age of 84 years. Tom was born on the family farm at Disley, where he resided and farmed until October 2001 when failing health necessitated a move to the Lumsden and District Heritage Home. He was predeceased by his wife Myrtle (Campbell), parents William and Ethel Hipkin, sister Mary (Everett) Boyle and nephew Bill Boyle. Tom is survived by his son Jim, Jo (Campbell) and Georgia and son Bruce, Susan, Jennifer and Alison, all farming in the Lumsden area; sisters-in-law Mabel Zerr of Disley, Marjorie Campbell of Sault Ste Marie and cousins, nieces, nephews in Canada and England. He enjoyed his family, farm and community life. Tom participated in family events, 4-H, dances, card games, curling and ball games. He has always had a great love of horses and registered Hereford cattle. Among his favorite pleasures was attending Hereford cattle shows and sales, watching heavy horse pull competitions and proudly watching his granddaughters participate in activities. In 2000, he was honored with a fifty-year pin from the Canadian Hereford Association. Tom's greatest legacy is the unconditional love he had for all of his family. He is survived by ex-wife Laverne, loving companion Patricia, sons Bob (Ramona), Dale and David (Bev), daughters Brenda and Tracey (Chad), eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sisters Carol (Gary), Frances (Dan), and nephew Roy (Rena). Sonny was born in Lumsden and lived around the area most of his life, settling in Disley. He started out as a mechanic in his early years working on farm equipment and eventually working at the City of Regina and International Harvester. His first love was trucking; after purchasing his own gravel truck and hauling for various outfits, he went on to highway tractors doing long hauls all over North America. In recent years he owned and operated RJ Hunter Transport hauling grain for various producers in the Lumsden and surrounding area. If it came by truck it arrived on time... and damn cheap too! He was loyal to his customers as his customers were to him. We all loved to listen to his stories and he was the centre of attention wherever he went. We loved his sense of humour and we will always love and miss him. On Monday, February 26, 2001, Gladys Violet Johnsrude, late of Weyburn, passed away at the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 86 years. Predeceased by her parents, George and Violet Jahnke; four brothers: Cecil, Roland, Glyndon and Eldon; one sister, Velma and one brother in infancy. Gladys is survived by her loving husband, Erling Johnsrude of Weyburn; children: Howard (Carol) Johnsrude of Lethbridge, AB; Lois (David) Angell of Rose Valley; Reta Johnsrude of Weyburn; and Norma (Don) Sealy of Weyburn; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; one brother, Wilton Jahnke of Calgary, AB; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gladys Violet Johnsrude was born May 21, 1914 at Bethune, the oldest of eight children born to George and Violet Jahnke. She took her schooling in Bethune and moved to Talmage area when she was 19 years old. On October 20, 1938 she married Erling Johnsrude in Weyburn. They lived and raised their family on the homestead farm at Talmage, then bought their house in Weyburn in 1980. They commuted to the farm every spring and fall until finally retiring from farming in 1992. Gladys was very supportive and helpful to Erling in his various community activities. She was a member of the Talmage Homemakers, Wheatland Seniors, cribbage club and Eastern Star. Gladys enjoyed baking-bread was her specialty, cooking, reading, knitting and crocheting, playing cards and games, and music - especially the piano. Erling and Gladys travelled a lot throughout Canada, the USA and Europe. They made many trips with their special friends, Clare and Vi Pyett. Gladys was a long standing member of Talmage United Church, being active in the Ladies Aid. When Talmage Church closed they joined the Grace United Church in Weyburn and attended regularly. Gladys always had coffee on for friends and family. She especially enjoyed the children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren were very special. She always knew everyone's birthday and anniversary, and any family history when asked. Milestone anniversaries, weddings and birthdays were always celebrated with lots of family and friends. Funeral service was held Saturday, March 3 at 2:00 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Rev. Julia Sinclair officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. After a lengthy illness, Jim Laing passed away in Coquitlam, B.C. at the age of 73 years. Predeceased by his wife Patricia in 1996, his parents Alex and Clara and his brother Donald, Jim is survived by his children, Rob of Calgary, Anita (Jeff) of Chicago and granddaughter Madeline. Jim was born July 9, 1931 in Bethune, SK and grew up on the family farm where his lifelong love for gardening was cultivated. He married his beloved Pat in 1957. He was a longtime employee of SaskTel and enjoyed his work as a lineman and repairman. This work appealed to his handyman nature. He retired in 1986 and joined the SaskTel Pioneers. It was through the Pioneers that he became a member of the clown troupe Smile Makers and his character, "Bummer the Clown", was created. He loved to see people smile at his clown antics and balloon animals. Gardening made Jim truly happy and he was proud of his large vegetable garden, greenhouse and flowers. All of us looked forward to Jim's tomatoes every year. He loved to travel and visited many parts of Canada, the U.S. and Asia. In 1996 he moved to Kelowna, B.C. where he lived happily for a short time before a rare mental illness overtook him. Jim spent his last years at Riverview Hospital where he died peacefully on a gorgeous spring day. The level of care that he received at Riverview was outstanding and for this we are grateful. Vi was born in Disley, Saskatchewan and worked for the Royal Bank in Regina until her marriage when she moved to Oxbow, then back to Regina, Melville and Saskatoon. Vi and Auby moved to Calgary in 1985 to be close to their family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Predeceased and anxiously waiting to greet him are his wife Margaret (Cookson), daughter Doreen, mother and father Clairina and Gideon. Paul was the last surviving member of his family of 15 siblings; brothers Maurice (Germaine), Valere "Bert" (Margaret), Armand "Bill", Raymond (Lise), Lionel "Nick" (Columbe), and Laurent "Lawrence"; eight sisters Eva, Alice, Irene (Owen Dubey), Rose (Romeo Tourigny), Theresa (Floyd Werner), Cecile (Ken Kraushaar), Marie (Stan Zaba), Rita and dear family friend Betty Colven. Paul is survived by his loving family; son Bill (Faye) Langlois and their children Chad (Lisa), Blair (Stacey), Aaron (Tamara), Nathan (Tara), and Aimee (Mike) Anderson; daughter Velma (Dave) and Velma's son Clint Szatkowski; daughter Tracey (Wade McGillivray) and their children Kira (Moore), Reis, Brea, and Tyla. Paul was born on February 1, 1922 and was raised in Wolseley, Saskatchewan. Paul joined the Regina Rifles on February 1, 1940, his 18th birthday. He was deployed to the Philippines for two years, returned to Canada in 1945, and was discharged in 1947. Upon returning, Paul married the love of his life Margaret on February 5, 1945 and from there they built a family of their own. Paul farmed near Bethune in the North Plain District for 58 years, moving to Regina in 2004. Paul moved into the Veterans' Ward of Wascana Rehabilitation Centre in September, 2013. He was very active in the Wascana Chapel and attended Mass every Sunday. He participated in activities at the craft shop which included building and painting birdhouses. He also enjoyed participating in Happy Hour, exercises, physical and music therapy, and other recreational activities that were provided. The passing of Therese "Terry" Legare occurred at Stensrud Lodge on December 2nd, 2008. She was born and raised in Disley, Sask., moving to Willowbunch in her teenage years, where she met and later married Ernest Legare. She was predeceased by her parents, Alphonse and Almeda, two sisters and five brothers, husband Ernest and daughter Madeleine. She is survived by eight children: Claudette, Cecile, Ernie, Leo (Linda), Marie, Jerry, Ken (Brenda), Raymond (Rachel), granddaughter Marnie, grandsons Brandon, Jason and Jeremy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mom's greatest loves were her children, grandchildren and traveling, which she did until becoming ill in 2006. She always had a suitcase packed and was ready to go. She also enjoyed reading, painting, music, sewing and volunteer work. Mom was especially proud of the ten year volunteer pin that she received for her weekly visits to the North Battleford Hospital. She would go there to cheer up the patients and play the piano for them. Her sense of humour and ready wit made her loved by all who met her. Many thanks to the wonderful, compassionate staff at Stensrud Lodge for their care of Mom during her two year stay, as well as their respect and consideration for the family. Thanks also to Dr. Boechler, who took the time to listen to our concerns and took Mom's welfare to heart, even making time to play a piano medley for her when he visited. Mom was not only our Mother, but our Best Friend. At Mom's request, there will be a private memorial service in the spring for family only. We mill miss you, Mom. Bon Voyage. LONEY - Del Laverne passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2007 just one month short of his 93rd birthday, at the Pasqua Hospital of heart failure. He was predeceased by his parents William George and Ethel Pearl. Del is survived by his sons: Gary and his wife Shirley of Lloydminster AB; Dale and his wife Shelly of Regina SK and Farryl and his daughter Courtney of Ottawa, ON; grandchildren: Shawn Loney and his wife Marnie of Regina; Brent Loney and his wife Marnie (not a misprint) and Del's first great grandchild Benjamin; Kyle Loney of Lloydminster; Rheana and her husband Vince Rogers of Denver, Colorado and Kendra Loney of Regina. Del started his married life with Astrid Legrande on a farm on the south side of the valley at Disley, SK and moved the family to Regina in 1956 to 1020 Queen Street. Del worked at Sherwood Co-op for many years. He was also involved with Cubs and Boy Scouts and was a scout leader for many years. Some of his favorite memories came when coaching the neighborhood boys in the local baseball leagues. When the boys grew up, Del joined the Odd Fellow's Lodge where he was an active leader and member as long as his health permitted and is a life member. He took great pride in the civic accomplishments of the Rebekah and Odd Fellow's Lodges. Del spent most of his early retirement years traveling and has been to Europe, all over the United States, the Caribbean, and on many ocean cruises. A special thank you to the nurses and staff of the Pasqua Hospital for their compassion and special efforts to make Del's final days as comfortable as possible. Herbert was born on March 30, 1920 spending his childhood on his parents" farm and his teen years on his grandfather"s farm in the Lumsden/Disley district. Herbert is survived by: his wife Mabel, sons Arvid (Bernice) and Carl (Susan), and daughters Dorothea (Richard), Barbara (Dennis) and Laurel. Also he leaves eleven grandchildren, Aaron (Karen), Shawn (Shelly), Jason, Angela, Colleen, Kerry, Marina, Grayden, Miranda, Keenan and Chantelle and four greatgrandchildren, Akira, Emmitt, Austin and Jayden. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and three sisters; and survived by four sisters and one brother. Herbert's life revolved around his family. His every action and thought was centered on the wellbeing and needs of his wife and children. Herbert began married life farming near Disley. He left the farm shortly after the birth of his oldest child, moving to Regina where he made his home for the remainder of his life. Herbert worked briefly for Beaver Lumber until he began a job with the Regina Board of Education with whom he remained until his retirement in 1980. After retiring Herbert and Mabel traveled extensively before poor health confined the two to their home where they lived with, and were cared for by, their daughter and her husband, Barbara and Dennis. Herbert spent many hours building various crafts from pieces of furniture to scale replicas of the wagons he saw and used on the farm as a child. His many works provided a glimpse of his keen insight and creative mind as he constructed each piece-every one built to scale and accurate to the smallest detail. Herbert"s family wishes to express sincere thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff who cared for him over the years and especially to the doctors and nurses of Pasqua Palliative Care who eased his passing. Helen Seifert was born and raised on a farm near Disley, Sask. on Feb. 13, 1921. She was the eldest daughter in a family of nine children. Helen's mother died at the age of 36 years when Helen was 14 years old. Helen loved her time at school as a child but when her mother passed away, Helen left her studies at Little Lake School and assumed an adult role in helping care for the young Seifert family. Helen married Walter Luhning on Dec. 2, 1942. They shared 44 years together on their farm near Lumsden, Sask. Busy years were spent raising five children and enjoying the work of farming. Helen had a garden every year until the last two years of her life, and her love of gardening was imparted to her children and grandchildren. Helen's life was rich with family and community activities. She enjoyed being involved with sport days, ball games, curling, Homemaker Club, and the U.C.W. She taught Sunday school, provided leadership for C.G.I.T, and was treasurer for the Lumsden Band Association. As an adult, she completed her grade twelve and continued her love of learning through correspondence and community classes. Helen instilled her values of education within her family. Children were always a cherished part of Helen's life. Her long life was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen unfailingly supported all in their community activities and events. After Walter's passing, Helen remained on the farm until November, 2008 and then moved to Queen Victoria Estates in Regina. Helen made many new friends there and enjoyed being a member of the QVE Shuffleboard Club. Helen`s life touched all of us in a very special way. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. It is with great sadness that his family announces the passing of Joseph Albert, of Regina, on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at the age of 91 years. Joe was born in Disley, SK to Rosalia and Joseph Lustig. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years Anne (Eide), five children: Randi (Gordon) Kennedy, Gary (Kathy), Janice, Linda (Douglas) Reinbold and Vicki Lee (Scott) Lachance; twelve grandchildren: Erin Kennedy (Jianni Marchiori), Sarah Kennedy (Pat Maloney), Jane (Trevor) Groff, Brett Lustig (Julianna Guffei), Thomas Lachance, Erik Lustig, Turner Lachance, Siri Reinbold, Stefan Reinbold, Taylor Lachance, Kari Lustig and Maren Reinbold; five great-grandchildren: Gabriel, Gianna and Luca Marchiori and Quinn and Bridget Maloney. Also fondly remembered by his sisters Hilda (Bill) Bennett and Josephine Seeley and brother Rudy Lustig as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his beloved granddaughter Lisa Lustig. Joe interrupted his teaching career to serve with the RCAF and Royal Norwegian Air Force during World War II. He met his wife Anne when he was stationed in Norway immediately after the war. They were married in Stavanger, Norway on November 10, 1945 and they later settled in Prince Albert where Joe continued his long career in education. While he was a principal, Joe earned both his B.A. and his B.Ed from the University of Saskatchewan. He retired in 1979 as Director of Education for Prince Albert Public School Division #3. During his years in Prince Albert, he devoted many hours to activities related to education, serving on the Continuing Education Committee and as Chairman of the Board of Natonum Community College. Joe was honored by the province with a commemorative medal in 1977 for his contributions to education. After his retirement, he and Anne enjoyed many winters in Mesa, Arizona and summers with family at the cabin at Emma Lake. In 2004, Joe and Anne moved to Regina to be closer to family. Lancelot Marno was born March 17, 1916 at Bethune. He was raised in Bethune until moving to Porcupine Plain with his Dad and sisters after 1928. On March 17, 1940 he married Evelyn McKee in Tisdale. After their marriage, Lance and Evelyn farmed in the Porcupine Plain area until 1941 when they moved to London, ON where Lance found employment at the Kellogg's Company. He worked there for four years, then joined the navy during WW II where he was a gunner from 1943 to 1945. In 1947 Lance, Evelyn and family moved to McTaggart, where Lance owned a barber shop and pool hall until 1951. At this time he was hired by the Saskatchewan Hospital in Weyburn as a barber, and remained there until he retired in 1981. After retirement, they moved back to Porcupine Plain. Lance enjoyed gardening, cooking and renovating his own homes as well as those of his children and grandchildren. Lance loved to do woodwork like building wishing wells, lawn chairs, bird houses, flower pots as well as many other articles which are enjoyed by many friends and family. Lance and Evelyn passed many long winters making blue jean quilts and purses. Lance also liked to spool knit touques and scarves which he liked to donate to others. Lance played hard ball during his younger years with the Saskatchewan Hospital team and enjoyed watching other sports as well. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family and friends. She was an enthusiastic gardener and her love of animals was well known by all who knew her. MCKECHNIE - Matilda "Tillie" (nee Zahn) passed away at the Regina General Hospital on Thursday, January 31, 2002, at the age of 65. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Christina; sister, Jean Harvey and daughter in law, Dorie McKechnie. He is survived by Marion, his wife and best friend of 55 years; son, Hugh (Bev) McKechnie; daughter, Caryl Gardiner (Mike); granddaughters, Janna Hollinger (Todd) and Nicolette McKechnie. Robert (Bob) was born on July 21, 1922 on the family farm near Bethune, SK. He moved to Regina as a young man, eventually leading him to employment in 1955 at the Consumers Cooperative Refinery as a pipefitter. Bob and Marion built their own house where they raised their two children. One of his shining moments was when he became a Grandpa. He loved old time fiddle and polka music and even up to his last days would tap his spoons in time to the music. Bob was very loving and loyal to family and friends. We will miss him dearly. MCKECHNIE - Thelma 1910 - 2010. Our deep sense of loss and sorrow is tempered with joy in the memory of a life well lived. Thelma passed away peacefully in Moose Jaw, April 21st, 2010 in her 100th year. She was predeceased by her husband Earl, son Jim, daughter-in-law Tillie, seven siblings and two grandchildren. She is survived by her son Morley (Cathy); daughter Doreen (Garry); nine grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; and ten great great grandchildren. Thelma and Earl enjoyed farming in the Gladstone School District for many years, then moved to Bethune in 1984. Thelma was a lifelong caregiver to many and always hospitably welcomed friends and family into her home. A celebration of Thelma's life will be held in the Bethune Community Hall on Monday, April 26th, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. MCLAUGHLIN - Irene (nee Hannant) was born on June 8, 1928 in Bethune SK to Herb and Mary Hannant and passed away on September 30, 2013 in Regina, SK. She was the second born of 16 children. Irene was predeceased by her husband Lloyd; son Albert; two brothers; and six sisters. On May 6th, 2002 Lydia McLean, a recent resident of the Parkside Extendicare passed away at the age of 99 years, 2 months short of her 100th birthday. Predeceased by her parents Francis and Charlotte (Ross) Crone, a sister Marguerite Brown, 4 brothers Dave, Joe, Alex and George, also her husband Gerald McLean a son Jack McLean and a son-in-law Michael Zahn. She leaves to mourn her passing a son Don McLean of Moose Jaw, 2 daughters Ethel (Norm) Fisher of Bethune, and Gayle Payette of Regina, a sister-in-law Mary Crone. She also had 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Lydia received her education at a small country school at Richardson, Central Collegiate in Regina, then going on to Success Business College. In 1921 she arrived in Bethune after accepting a job as a secretary at the Royal Bank. While in Bethune she also worked as Assistant Secretary at the R.M. of Dufferin, she was manager at the Co-Op store for a number of years before retiring to Regina where again she worked for several different companies. As requested there will be no funeral after cremation, but a Celebration of Life will be held in Bethune at a later date. MCNALLY - Reginald John Brian, of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Mrs. W. Dorothy McNally, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at the age of 83 years. Brian leaves to cherish his memory four sons: David McNally; Bob (Bev) McNally and their children, Shauna and Sara; Pat (Nora) McNally and their children, Joel, Elizabeth and Connor; and Jim (Wendy) McNally and their son, Phillipe; one brother, Patrick (Raymonde) McNally; as well as several nieces and nephews. Brian was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Marguerite McNally; one grandson, Seumas; and one brother, Hugh. Brian was born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan in 1922 and was raised on the family farm in Bethune. He attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon and graduated as a Mechanical Engineer. He enlisted in the Army at the start of WWII and while in Ontario, met and married his life partner Dorothy. They moved to Sarnia, Ontario where their four boys were born. In 1954 they moved to Fort Saskatchewan and then in 1956 to Medicine Hat where Brian worked as Plant Engineer for North West Nitro/Western Co-op retiring in 1982. After retirement he helped his son, Pat, for two years with a tree trimming business. He always felt this was a great time; physically working hard and spending a lot of time at coffee with his son. He subsequently did some consulting work with Pat and also worked on the reconditioning of a fertilizer plant near Pincher Creek. Brian was a tireless volunteer. He was a life time member of the Rotary Club, and the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta. He served on the hospital board for twelve years. He was very proud of his work with the Rotary Music Festival and from 1983 to 1985 was President of the Alberta Music Association. In 1986 he received the Alberta Achievement Award for his work as a volunteer, and again in 1994, he was recognized by APEGGA with a Special Service Award for over 40 years of volunteer work in the community of Medicine Hat. He was very proud of his years as a volunteer coach of the AMAC swim club, where he had a positive affect on many of the young people of Medicine Hat. He will be missed. On Friday, Dec 22, 2006 Arthur Francis Mead, late of Regina formerly of Bethune, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years. Art was born Dec 29, 1917 on a farm south of Bethune, Sask. He was predeceased by his wife Murle in 1985, father Fred and mother Mary, and sister Gladys (Charles) Turtle, sister in law Peg Mead, brother in law Floyd Lawson, brother in law Steve Sluzalo, brother in law Grant Evans, brother in law Phil Lawson, sister in law Elaine (Toby) Serack, brother in law James Broome. Art spent his whole life farming in the Bethune District with his many friends and neighbors. He had joined the Army in 1941 and served until his release in 1946. In those years he served in France, Italy, and Holland. Art returned home to his love of farming when he met & married Murle Lawson. He farmed until he retired at the age of 76 continuing to live at his home in Bethune. His passions in life were his family, grandchildren & great grandchildren, friends, nature, the country life, and a good round of crib, dice, rummy or any board game. Another passion was his involvement in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #304. For this he worked tirelessly until his health would no longer permit. In 2004 Art moved to the Two Spirit Country Care Home near Regina Beach, SK. where he resided until Nov 2005. He then moved to Wascana Veterans Unit 3-5 in Regina, SK. where he resided until his passing. Art will be greatly missed but forever remembered for his wonderful smile, great wit and all around love of life. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the 2nd World War doing convoy duty in the North Atlantic. After the war he settled in Vancouver where he and Jean were married in 1951 and where they started their family. In 1965 the family moved to Saskatoon where Ted and his brother started their own business. Ted worked at that business until he retired in 1987. Ted was an avid golfer and was a member at Riverside Golf Club for over 30 years. Ted will be remembered by all for his sense of humour, his generosity of spirit, and the warmth and kindness he brought to all that he met, including strangers in the aisle of the supermarket. A Celebration of Ted's Life will be held at Acadia-McKague's Funeral Centre (915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon) on Sunday, December 13th at 2:00 p.m. MILLER - Millicent Lavina (nee Stewart) passed away peacefully on November 11, 2012 at the age of 76 years. Millicent in predeceased by her parents Harvey and Kathleen, brother Robert Stewart and sister Margaret Howell. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 52 years, Harvey; son Thomas Miller and former daughter-in-law Laney; daughter Marcie (Chris) Aird; grandchildren: Shelby, Regan, Jody, Ryan, and Victoria; sister Virginia Pelletier; and brother Melvin Stewart; as well as many other relatives and friends. Millicent was born in Bethune on January 18, 1936. She grew up in the Sunset School district until her family moved to Moose Jaw and she attended high school at Central Collegiate. In 1959 Millicent married Harvey Miller. In 1967 they moved to Craik and began farming. Millicent loved spending time with her family, and was happiest working with the farm animals and in the company of her pets. One of Millicent's passions in life was the time she spent working in the Craik area as a home care aide, providing assistance to others. She was also proud of her Irish ancestry. A Celebration of Millicent's life will be held at the Craik United Church, Friday, November 16, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Hilda Dale will officiate. He was predeceased by his son David in 2004, and by four sisters and three brothers. Born on July 2, 1905 to Evans and Elizabeth Mortin in Forest, ON, Ernie moved with his family to Strasbourg, SK in 1906 and to a farm near Dilke in 1914. He worked as a Saskatchewan Wheat Pool agent in Dilke and had an insurance business. He retired from the elevator in 1965 and he, Helen and Sharon moved to Bethune, where he continued his insurance business. In 1999, he and Helen moved to Saskatoon. A memorial service will be held in Bethune United Church on Monday, June 26 at 1.30 p.m. MORTIN - Helen Elizabeth (nee Stanfield), formerly of Bethune, SK, died quietly at Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon on January 19, 2007 age 96, after a brief illness. She was predeceased by Ernie, her husband of 69 years, in 2006 and by son David in 2004. She is survived by daughters Jean (Jenni) Mortin of Saskatoon, Linda Ferguson of Plymouth, MN, and Sharon (Jim) Jeeves of Wolseley, SK, and daughter-in-law Isabel Mortin of Calgary, AB, by seven grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren in Canada and the United States, and by sister Mearl Miller and brother Ralph Stanfield of White Rock, BC. Helen was born in Iowa in 1910 to Ralph and Cora Stanfield, who moved to Craik, SK in 1913. She attended Normal School in Regina and taught in schools in rural Saskatchewan and Manitoba before her marriage in 1936. She and Ernie lived in Dilke, SK for 29 years, where she taught music and was organist and choir director in the United Church. When they moved to Bethune in 1965, she became organist and choir director of Bethune United Church. They moved to Saskatoon in 1999. Beth was born in Kedleston, Sask. She taught school in the Strasbourg & Bulyea area for two years before moving to Ontario to marry Ken Mortin from Dilke. He was trained in electronics in the 1940s and also worked in this trade until 2010. John met the love of his life, Helen Suszycki in Toronto in 1941 and they were married in 1943. PASTERFIELD - Dunstan Patrick. On Friday July 13, 2007 The Reverend Dunstan Patrick Pasterfield died at the age of 90. Dunstan is survived by his wife Veronica; Chris - Karen (Nicki, Ryan, Tanner and Grady Hoffman; Andy and Geoff); Susan - James Rollins (Mark, Simon and Tallis); Sally Orr (Courtney); Marty Marnie (Ryan, Rainey and Olivia Benson; James, Kristie, Zak, Taylor, and Aiden Benson; Jordan Benson; Jake, Tom, and Matt); Clare Pasterfield - Richard Ouellette (Jillian and Blake); and numerous nephews and neices in England. He trained Sikh, Muslim and Hindu recruits for the 15th Punjab Regiment. He was ordained a priest in 1951 in England and moved back to Canada. He was predeceased by his wife, Jeanie whom he married in 1942 just three days before joining the air force; his parents, Alexander and Kate; his brother, Alexander (Ruth and Shirley); his sisters, Harriett (John) Young and Catherine (James) Crandon; his daughter-in-law, Karen Patience; and his son-in- law, Ron Boos. Except for his time in the Canadian Air Force during World War II and a short time working in the construction industry after the war, Charlie spent his life farming in the Bethune area. Charlie was a proud supporter of his community, holding volunteer positions on many committees over the years including the Bethune Cemetery Committee that he chaired for over 25 years. He was a self-taught and accomplished carpenter. He designed and built many pieces of furniture for family and friends. He had a love of horses, and as a hobby he painted and harnessed ceramic horses, fashioning the harnesses to exactly replicate the way they were harnessed in the early 1900s. He lived independently in Bethune until he was 96 when he moved to Moose Jaw. Charlie was one of those people that friends and neighbours always knew they could call on when they needed a helping hand. Charlie's last request to his family and friends was, "Be happy for me". Interment will take place at a private family graveside service. PATIENCE - Jeanie (nee Shanks), late of Bethune, passed away at the Craik & District Health Centre on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at the age of 85 years surrounded by her family. He worked on the family farm while attending Westridge School. He married his school sweetheart Lois Campbell in 1953 and the couple began their own family and took over the family farm. They moved to Bethune in 1966 to make transportation to school easier for their 7 children, although they continued to farm the family farm. Don retired in 2002, after 60 years of farming. He had a strong passion for fishing, hunting, camping, and gardening, especially his tomatoes. He loved his family and enjoyed many family gatherings. He curled until his boys started hockey, and he coached them for many years. In his later years he enjoyed getting together with neighbours to play cards, and watching the grandkids in their various activities. PERKIN - Janet Margaret (nee Anderson) passed away on March 30, 2012. Born November 21, 1921 in Montreal, QC to Tom and Mary Anderson, Janet grew up in Bethune, SK and went on to become a teacher. She played one season in the All- American Girls Professional Baseball League, won the first Western Canadian curling championship in 1953, and was a three-time provincial curling champion. She was a long-time resident of Regina. Janet was predeceased by her mother and father, Tom and Mary Anderson, her husband Max, of 57 years, and two infant daughters. Predeceased by his loving wife Mary, his brother Mike, sisters Ruby and Sophie and his son-in-law Bill Boyle. He leaves to mourn his daughter Doris Boyle, son Ron (Edwina) Riche, grandchildren Troy (Manuela) and Rhonda (Terry) Bennett and great grandchildren; Tia, Ben and Kate Riche, Tyren, Tyce, Rylan and Raedyn Bennett and numerous nieces and nephews. Roy received his education at Gladstone School. He married Mary Shatkowski and they were married for 68 years. Roy and Mary lived on the farm until 1948 when they moved to Bethune. They retired to Regina in 1975. Roy farmed in the Bethune district until he purchased the Bethune Hotel. Unable to get a liquor license, he ran many business; ice cream parlor, motion pictures in surrounding towns and cattle buyer. He organized a Moose Lodge and finally in 1955 he was able to open Bethunes first licensed beverage room. In the meantime he operated Cockshutt Implement Dealership. He was on several dealer advisory boards. Roy was on the RM if Dufferin 190 Council for 12 years and on the village Council for 2 years. His interests included hunting, fishing and curling, but most of all his love of cars (all 48). In the early years he played accordion with his friend Tony Shatkowski at numerous dances and private parties. His idol was Frankie Yankovic which in later years he became his personal friend. Roy and Mary travelled extensively to Europe, Australia, Hawaii, Caribbean cruises and eventually they spent their winters in Arizona. They lived life to the fullest and partied hardy! Henry passed away at home in the Lumsden Manor at the age of 84 years. Henry lived and farmed in the Kedleston community, and spent many hours driving around the country and visiting neighbours and friends. He will be remembered for his many stories and endless jokes. There will be a celebration of his life held at the Bethune Hall on Saturday, September 1, 2012 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. SEIFERT - Ernest Max of Summerland, BC passed away peacefully January 26, 2010 at the age of 91 years. Survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Gwen, daughters: Sharon (John) Lagarde; Linda (Fred) Harvey, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brothers: Walter (Marilyn) and Jim (Opal), sister Elsie Sullivan, sisters in law Theresa and Lottie, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Sadly predeceased by grandson Mario Lagarde. Ernie volunteered to serve his country in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was transferred overseas from 1942 to 1946. While there he met and married Gwen. After service he returned home to Disley, SK and farmed in Bethune and Disley for 20 years. He and his family moved to Summerland in the summer of 1967. He became a member of the Legion and Kiwanis. Ernie got a job as a mechanic at 5 Corners and later received his mechanic papers and worked for the Municipality of Summerland until retirement. With great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Hugo Seifert, of Lumsden and District Heritage Home and formerly of Bethune, on Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at the age of 90. Hugo was predeceased by his son, Ken; his sisters, Rosalie, Madge and Hilda; and his brother, Herbert. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Vi; daughter, Shirley Hansen (David), granddaughter, Kirsten; also, brother-in-law, Stan Kreller and sister-in-law, Jessie Dobbyn. Hugo was born March 28, 1912 in his parents' house on their homestead in Loch Ayr S.D. east of Bethune. In 1935 he married Violet Murdoch and they continued to live and farm there until retirement in 1982. He was active in the development and support of many community organizations, was a progressive farmer and a great reader. He especially loved his workshop and being "Mr. Fix-it" for a wide circle of friends and family. After his retirement and move to a new house in town, he continued to spend his days in the farm shop and rediscovered his early enjoyment of woodworking. SEIFERT - Violet (nee Murdoch). On January 8, 2015, three weeks short of her 99th birthday, Violet Seifert of Pioneer Village, Regina and formerly of Bethune and Lumsden, passed away peacefully with daughter Shirley and David by her side. She was predeceased by her parents Tom and Alice (Barker) Murdoch; husband, Hugo; son, Ken; brother, Cecil (Frances); sister, Jessie (Bill) and in-laws, Madge, Hilda (Stan); Herbert (Ruth); and three nephews. She is lovingly remembered by daughter, Shirley Hansen; beloved granddaughter, Kirsten (Dustin); former son-in-law and dear friend, David (Cheryl), as well as the nieces and nephews she so treasured and many friends. Mum was born January 29, 1916 on the farm in the Waldorf district south of Bethune and attended school there. She and Hugo were married in 1935 and they ran the Seifert farm east of Bethune until retirement. Their home on the farm and later the new house in Bethune were settings for many festive gatherings and meals. Going hungry was not an option in Mum's mind and her fine cooking is well remembered by those who shared in it. She loved her vegetable and flower gardens and spread the bounty of them. She also loved the Roughriders. Many charities, many community associations and many family members and friends benefitted from her kindnesses and hard work. The family wishes to thank Dr. Pervaiz and the wonderful staff of Pioneer Village, in particular of 4E, for their compassionate and generous care. SIGMETH - Bernice (nee Hamilton) of Moose Jaw, SK formerly of Bethune, SK, age 87, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on September 21, 2006. Bernice was born on March 17, 1919 to Glaud and Bertha Hamilton of Lumsden, SK. At age of 16, Bernice moved with her family to Regina, SK where she worked as a clerk at Parisian Dry Cleaners until 1943 when she married Herman Sigmeth who was serving in the armed forces. Army life took them to Prince Rupert, BC, Wainwright, AB, and Victoria, BC. In spring of 1944, Herman was granted leave to help his father farm at Bethune, SK and Bethune became home. In addition to raising her family, Bernice drove school bus, tended to a large garden, cheered on the Toronto Blue Jays and helped support community events. Bernice will be remembered for her passion for her family as well as for her knitting, home-made buns and raspberry freezer jam. Elsie was the youngest child of the late William H. N. Dyer and Elizabeth E. Randall, Disley, Sask. Predeceased by her nine brothers, 2 sisters, great grandson, Colton Kreacker and grandson-in-law, James Dilke. On March 6th, 2000 her loving husband, Frank O. Spearman passed away and on December 17th, 1985 the father of her sons, Archibald W. Dobson. Left to mourn her passing are her sons, Sydney (Henrietta) Dobson of Lumsden and William (Valerie) Dobson of Regina, grandchildren: Brenda Dilke, Ken (Debby) Dobson, Brian Dobson and Emillie Petrosky, Terri (Ross) Kreacker, Renee (Jay) Robinson and seven great grandchildren. Also stepson, Wayne (Gwen) Spearman and their family from Victoria, B.C. Elsie was very active with the local Anglican Church, golfing and curling. STAR - Anna (nee Ortman) Schadlich Star, a resident of the Swan Valley Lodge at Creston, BC, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2001 in her 86th year. Anna is survived by her five children: Robert (Ruth) Schadlich, Cranbrook, BC; Isabel (Carl) Eisler, Calgary, AB; Dennis (Shelley) Schadlich, Strathmore, AB; Doreen (Harvey) Cutting, Saskatoon, SK; David (Faith) Schadlich, Rockyford, AB, fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother; Jacob (Carrie) Ortman; four sisters; Betty Maze, Kay Schuck, Lee (Paul) Froelich, Mary Svenson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Anna was predeceased by her parents Michael and Katherine Ortman; a brother Conrad, a sister Sabina and two infant brothers, Michael and Jacob. She was born July 4, 1915, at Francis, SK. She was married to Christopher Schadlich in 1936 and together they had five children. After her husband's death in 1953, she remained on the family farm at Disley SK with her children until 1961. She then moved to Regina and in 1964 she married Len Townsend. Len died in 1965. In 1966 she married John McFarlane and together they owned and operated a small real estate company. In 1975 they moved to Strathmore, AB where, with the help of their children and grandchildren, they built their dream home. John died in 1977. In 1978 she married Spencer Horton. She sold her home in Strathmore in 1980 and they moved to Creston BC, where she spent her remaining years. She was divorced from Spencer in 1982 and married William Star in 1993. William died on May 1, 2001. Anna lived a full and happy life. She was an avid gardener and amateur horticulturist and left her mark wherever she lived. Her grandchildren will always remember her as the "world's greatest" granny. Visitation will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel at 2136 College Avenue in Regina on Thursday June 21 starting at 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in Lumsden at the United Church at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 22, 2001 with interment to follow at the Lumsden Cemetery. STEPHENSON - Jim was born on the family farm at Bethune, Sask. on May 11, 1917 and passed away February 1, 2014. Jim was predeceased by his wife (Edna Detta); parents Robert and Gertrude; sister Jessie (Lorne Ewen); brother Fred (Velma Hills). He is survived by his son Lynn (Sylvia) Calgary, AB; brother (Alex) and family in England, also many nieces, nephews and friends. Jim was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. STOCHMAL - John Stanley was born on August 18, 1934 near Bethune and passed away suddenly with his family at his side on April 21, 2005 in Regina. He was predeceased by his parents; Adelbert and Antonina; brother: Ludwig; son: Michael; grandson: Justin; and granddaughter: Emily. John leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife, Julia, of 41 years; two sons: Tim (Janice) and Patrick; three daughters: Monica (Craig) Hood; Julie (Bob) Dreher; Teresa (Paul) Hartman; daughter-in-law: Shannon; grandchildren: Jenna, Matthew, Sara, Cody, Kyle, Ashley, Jordan, Griffen, Oliver, Simon, and Lillian; brother: Tony (Lex) Stochmal of Nanaimo; special friend, Tracy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. John graduated from Saskatchewan Teachers' College in 1957, taught for 34 years in the Regina Separate School System of which many were spent as a Principal, and retired in 1991. John was a well-respected and admired administrator. He was loved by colleagues and students alike. He served in various capacities with The Knights of Columbus and thoroughly enjoyed his work with the Vocations Program. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Parish for over 30 years. His passions were his family and friends. Harry died peacefully on Sunday, September 26, 2004 in his own home, in Ogema, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on the farm at Bethune, Sask. on December 2, 1928 to Howard and Mabel Struthers. He attended both elementary and high school in Bethune and went on to convocate from the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) in Guelph, Ontario in 1954. Harry established a veterinary practice in Ogema that same year which he continued until his retirement in 1994. He was a highly respected veterinarian, an excellent husband, father and grandfather, and a fine individual who was dedicated to his community, his clients, and most of all, his family. He was affectionately known to the entire southern area as "Doc" and left a lasting positive impression on everyone who knew him. Harry was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Mabel; his stepmother, Margaret; his granddaughters, Amanda and Victoria Webb; his sister-in-law, Eleanor Struthers; Bea's family Margaret and Harold Davidson, Alice Laing, Isabel and Donald Gardiner, Laura and Donald Joorisity, Stuart Laing, Wilfred McArton, and Walter Yates; his nieces, Donna (Gardiner) Braden and Heather Laing. It is with fond memories and deep sadness that the family announces the passing of John on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the age of 85 years. He was predeceased by his father Howard, mother Mabel and stepmother Margaret, his loving wife of over 40 years, Eleanor in 2000, his brother Harry in 2004 and brother-in-law John Hosey. John will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Bernadette (Rich) McIntyre of Regina, sons Ian of Bethune and Ted (Mary) of Ogema. John thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren Jonathan (Nicole), Nicholas (Danelle) and Benjamin Struthers, and Lisa and Shawn McIntyre and their many friends. John is also survived by his sister Dorothy (Peter) Rorbeck and their family Sandra, Debbie (Barclay) Cook and Barry (Darlene) and sister-in-law Beatrice Struthers and her family Howard (Marielle), Susan (Glen) Viergutz, Cathy (David) Webb, David (Sally) and his many great nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by his close friend and cousin Janet Perkin of Regina and her family, cousin Les Struthers of Weyburn, and his family, brother-in-law William Hosey, sister-in-law Paula (Keith) Matheson and sister in law Betty Hosey as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins in England. John was born in Bethune on August 11, 1924 to Howard and Mabel (nee Anderson) Struthers and spent his entire life in the Bethune area, which he loved very much. He was raised on the farm, and farming was his life. He especially enjoyed the cattle business. In 1956, he married Eleanor Hosey, a teacher on a two year exchange from England. They raised three children and were very involved in the community. John was on the Bethune Credit Union board for over 50 years a volunteer job he really enjoyed. He was a Wheat Pool Committee Member, a member of the IOOF lodge, a hockey team manager, a ball coach, youth curling coordinator, and served on the School Board, the United Church Board, the 50+Club Board and the History Book Committee. John enjoyed many sports as a participant and fan; he was an avid curler and volunteer and followed the sport until his final days. He was a dedicated Rider fan and season ticket holder for many years. John loved to visit and he and Eleanor had many wonderful times with family, friends and neighbors. They travelled to Alberta to visit cousins and always enjoyed touring English relatives around the flat prairies and to the mountains. John was a caring, generous, kind and friendly man who helped anyone in need. He loved his family and enjoyed his grandchildren immensely. He will be greatly missed. SULLIVAN - Elsa Susanna (nee Seifert) left her earthly abode behind, just short of her 91st birthday, on January 18, 2015. She will be missed by her eight grandchildren Catherine (Scott) Godlien, Ken (Shaussica) Sullivan, Daniel (Elizabeth) Sullivan, James Wilson, Laura Wilson, Kim Wilson, Tyler Sullivan and Max Pawlust, fourteen great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and families. She was predeceased by her husband John (Jack) Sullivan in October of 1985, brothers Fred, Ernie, John, George, Charlie and sister Helen Luhning. Mom's great loves in life were her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her farm, her garden, her flowers, knitting and reading. Slowly over the years, she was less able to partake of her loves as she was less able to maintain her independence, but still enjoyed visits from her family, particularly those great- granddaughters who were insistent on cuddling and looking after her every need. Her family was always uppermost in her mind and she will be missed by all of us. SULLIVAN - Muriel Doris Sullivan went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at the age of 96 years. She will be missed by her 15 grandchildren: Shannon, Dan (Anna), Jay (Tammy), Steve (Cheryl), Patrick (Maeribeth), Tim (Eryn), Pam (Steve), Curt, Craig (Alissa), Christine, Rob (Jodi), Cathy (Trent), Heather (Brent), Thera and Brittany (Nathan), 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Doris' greatest loves were her husband, family and her Lord and Saviour. Mom was often the emcee at gatherings, and she organized many programs. No family get together was complete without a program. She also enjoyed the challenges of playing and winning at bridge, cribbage and charades. While she and dad still lived in Bethune and later in Regina, the coffee pot was always on. Mom's last few years were spent at the Regina Lutheran Home. We as a family thank them for being wonderful care givers for mom. A celebration of her life will take place at the Bethune Community Hall on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. SUTHERLAND - Alick Sutherland passed away on May 5, 2004 in Moose Jaw at the age of 89 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Margaret and his nephews Garry (Marleen), Murray (Marilyn), Lynn (Debbie), Brian (Elaine), Hugh (Deanna), and Douglas (Paulette) and their children. He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn in 2000 and by his brothers James (1935), Norman (1991), and Don (2002). Alick was born in Disley, Saskatchewan in 1914 and moved to the family farm south of Lafleche in 1915. After his father passed away in 1940, he and his brother Don took over the operations and farmed together for over 40 years, retiring in 1981. Alick and Evelyn were married in 1982 making Moose Jaw their home. Alick's favorite pastime was playing the violin. He played for many years with the Harwood band until he moved to Moose Jaw at which time he joined two new groups. Up until his time of passing he played an average of four times per week, entertaining those less fortunate as well as providing a lively beat for community dances. Looking younger than his years, Alick will always be remembered for his wit, charm, sense of humour and passion for helping others. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Margaret; sisters Elizabeth and Dorothy; and several nieces and nephews. After many years farming near Disley, Bill and Marg moved to Regina where he worked for Saskatchewan Crop Insurance and later as manager of the Highland Curling Club. An avid baseball player in his younger days, Bill also loved curling and golf, especially looking forward to the annual trips to Arizona. Always good-natured, with a ready smile and sense of humour, Bill made friends wherever he went. In his later years, he struggled with Parkinson's disease, but never lost his spirit. THOMPSON - John 'Jack' Briggs, born May 13, 1906 in Yorkshire, England, died on Thursday, October 28, 2004 in Regina, Sask. at the age of 98. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Mae, sister Sally, and nephew Bob Bevis. He is survived by his nieces, Dorothy Grierson, Helen Van Alstine and her husband Jim, Carol Bevis, Norma Vance and their families. John came to Canada in 1911 at the age of 6. His family settled in the Tuberose, Sask. area to homestead where John attended school and farmed with his father. He married Mae Vance in 1939 and shortly after moved to Regina where he worked for Simpsons, later Sears for 41 years. He played violin for the Walter Budd Orchestra in the 40's. Old time fiddle music was one of his greatest joys in life. He also enjoyed many ocean cruises and holidays in Hawaii with his beloved wife Mae. In later years he spent many pleasant hours with his buddies at the Golden Mile and Mutchmor Lodge. He was a staunch Saskatchewan Roughrider fan. Grandpa was well known for his love of horses and being an avid horseman. He instilled and shared unselfishly that same love of horses with Darrell and Penny. Special thanks to those that visited or called Erdie since he moved into the Pioneer Village in May, 2001. He cherished each and every visit and phone call. It is with a deep sense of loss that we announce the death of our mother and grandmother Janet Vance on March 15, 2003 at the age of ninety. She was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Jessie Johnston, brother Gerald, sister Dorothy in infancy, husband Fred, and daughter Barbara Silvester. She is survived by her daughters Helen (Jim) Van Alstine, Carol (Bob) Bevis, Norma Vance; son-in-law Andrew Silvester; grandchildren Chuck (Manjit), Susan (Trent), Jodie (Guy), Todd (Carrie), Greg, Anna-Marie (Mike), Dianna, Michael; great grandchildren Andrew, Shane, Zachary, and Jessica, niece Dorothy Grierson, and brother-in-law John Thompson. Janet was born in Rouleau, SK and attended school at several locations in Saskatchewan and B.C. She attended Normal School in Saskatoon and taught for three years before fulfilling her dream of becoming a nurse. She graduated from Regina General Hospital in January, 1938. She married Frederick Vance in June 1938 and raised four daughters. The most valued things in her life were always her family, church and Eastern Star. She was proud to have served as Eastern Star Worthy Matron in 1984. Janet and Fred enjoyed road trips in their motor home and time spent at their special place, their cottage at Echo Lake. Following her husband's death, Janet traveled to see her daughter, Barbara and other relatives throughout the world. For the past six years, she has appreciated the friendship and caring concern of residents and staff at Mutchmor Lodge. the family wishes to thank the staff at Mutchmor Lodge, Home care workers, Dr. M. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loving father and grandfather, John Vance of the Lumsden Heritage Home. Predeceased by his wife Phyllis and son Hal, John is survived by his son Gary, daughters Terri (Barry), Viv (Darrell), Patti (Doug), numerous grandchildren and great grand children. Dad was born in Bethune on March 2, 1917. He worked for the Air Force as a mechanic and in 1945 he enlisted in the army. After the war he ran the Bethune Motordrome as well as farming in the Bethune area. In 1955 John married Phyllis Astin. John loved music and played in a band. His greatest hobby was collecting coins. A faithful Legion member, he served as president of the local branch and then as Zone Commander and was also a member of the Oddfellows for many years. Interment at a later date. On Tuesday, March 30, 2004, Sylvia Jean Walker, late of Regina, passed away in Imperial, SK at the age of 81 years. She is predeceased by her husband, Tom and her sister-in-law, Marjorie Blakely. Ken Walker officiating. WEISBROD - Carl Christian. On Wednesday, June 18, 2014, Mr. Carl Christian Weisbrod "Blondie" passed away at the age of 89 years at Regina Pioneer Village. He is survived by his children, Mitch (Lana) Weisbrod and Margie (Tony) Goulet; four grandchildren; brother Harold (Joan) Weisbrod; sisters-in-law, Alvina, Irene and Rita Weisbrod; brother-in-law Bill Maloughney; numerous nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends. Carl was predeceased by four sisters, Tillie, Carrie, Anne and Theresa; five brothers, Frank, Jack, Willie, Adam and Fred; parents, John and Matilda Weisbrod; wife Betty Weisbrod (n�e Vargo); and companion Mary Hills. Carl was born on the family farm near Disley, SK on June 10, 1925. Carl took up farming in 1952 until he moved into Regina where he worked at Sears until his retirement in 1990. Following his retirement, Carl enjoyed travelling, dancing, golfing, playing cards and smelling the flowers. He was most happy surrounded by family and friends and was the go-to person for his memory of times on the farm. Her husband, Neil; her son, Gordon; her parents, George and Mary Lord, and her brother Alan predeceased Nancy. Nancy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Ginette Wilkie, her daughter and son-in-law, Karen Wilkie and Philip Jeffreys, her granddaughters Marie Deveau and Emilie Jeffreys, her sister Marion Garbutt and Margaret Burkitt and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Nancy was born and raised in Bethune, Saskatchewan. She worked in Regina after her high school graduation until marrying Neil in 1941. She and Neil lived in Brandon, Manitoba during the Second World War as Neil was enlisted in the RCAF as a mechanic. In 1948 they moved from their farm near Kedleston to Saskatoon so their son, Gordon could attend the School for the Deaf. Nancy worked hard both inside and outside her home. She had a long association with St. Martin's United Church and the Miriam Unit of the UCW where she made friends easily and quickly. Nancy had many creative talents including sewing, knitting and oil painting. Our family would like to express our sincere thanks to all the staff at Oliver Lodge who cared for her with empathy and kindness as her journey came to an end. Blanche is predeceased by her mother and father, Violet and Carmen Bradley; first husband, Roy Wilkie in 1983; son, Donald in 1996; sisters, Audrey and Rita; brother, George; and her late husband, Harold Clark in 2003.
