ANAKA � George W. Anaka, 52 of Sturgis, passed away July 12, 1976. Funeral service held in the Greek Orthodox Church, three miles north of Stenen and burial in the church cemetery. Born in the Stenen district, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wasyl Anaka, he attended Mannanah School. In 1956 he married Rita Mentanko of Lady Lake and farmed in the Sturgis district. Predeceased by his parents, five brothers, John, Alex, Metro, Paul and Pete; two sisters, Lily and Mary; he is survived by his wife; a daughter Sheryl 16 and a son Lori 13; two brothers, Mike of Terrace, BC and Steve of Vancouver; three sisters, Ann Helmer of Victoria, Helen Babchishin of Canora and Ruth Beskowiney of Sturgis. ANAKA � John G. Anaka, 90 of Stenen, passed away February 22, 1996 at the Norquay Health Centre. Born on April 18, 1905 to George and Annie Anaka in the Stenen district, he attended Goodhue School. He helped out on the family farm and eventually took over the operation. He was a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Orthodox Church at Stenen. Predeceased by his father George in 1948, his mother Annie in 1968, three sisters, Pauline Stevens in 1978, Mary Reilly in 1987 and Ann Anaka in 1991, and two brothers, Mike in 1990 and Bill in 1995, he is survived by three sisters, Vaselena Anaka of Canora, Zovie Anaka of Stenen and Olga Michaluk of Sturgis. ANAKA � John W. Anaka, 97, died on April 10, 1977 in the Canora Hospital. Funeral held in St. Demetrius Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Stenen. Born in the Ukraine, he went to New York in 1901 and came to Canada in 1902 and settled 3 � miles north of Stenen in the area known then as Eden Valley. In 1904, he married Zowie Anaka at Gorlitz. In 1948, he moved to Sturgis and returned to Stenen in 1953. He retired from farming in 1972. He served as president of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Stenen, as chairman of the George Albert School board and as a member of a wheat pool committee. He donated land for the Assumption of the Holy Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the George Albert School. Predeceased by a son, Harry in 1944, serving in the armed forces in France in the Second World War; a daughter, Mary in 1964; a grandson, Robert Anaka in 1971; two sisters, Oksana Keler and Annie Anaka and four brothers, Nickolai, Andrew, Steve and Pete, he is survived by his wife; four sons, Bill of Cranberry Portage, Mike and Onufry of Stenen and Peter of Regina; a daughter, Ann Brunt of Edmonton; a sister, Maria Andrusko of Stenen; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. ANAKA � Metro W. Anaka, age 60, passed away January 4, 1974, in the Canora Hospital after a long illness. Funeral service held in Grace United Church in Sturgis and burial in the Orthodox Cemetery, three miles north of Stenen. Born in the Stenen district in 1913 to parents Wasyl and Justine Anaka, he left school at age 14 to work at home. In 1938, he went to the Prairie River district to homestead. In 1941, he joined the army and 942 he went overseas, where he served till the end of the war. When discharged he returned to his farm at Prairie River until 1973, when he retired to live at Sturgis. In June 1973, he was admitted to Canora Hospital. Four sisters survive him, Ann Helmer of Victoria, BC. Mary Herabba of Toronto, Ruth (William) Beskowiney of Sturgis and Helen (Nick) Babchishin of Canora; three brothers, George of Stenen, Steve of Vancouver and Mike of Terrace, BC. ANAKA � Mike G. Anaka, age 76 of Stenen, was found on the morning of February 17, 1990 on a road north of Stenen. He had died of hypothermia about 50 yards north in his approach. It was believed he was walking to his brother�s farm, one and a half miles away. Mr. Anaka did not have a telephone or electricity in his home. Mike was born on January 1, 1914 in the Stenen district and attended school in the Goodhue area. He worked at jasper National Park for two years; near Hudson Bay in the logging industry and farmed in later years. A man who preferred to keep to himself, he did however, enjoy going to Bingos. Predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Pauline Stevens in 1978 and Mary Reilly in 1987, he is survived by two brothers, John of Stenen and Bill of Edmonton; four sisters, Ann of Toronto, Vaselena of Canora, Zovie of Stenen and Olga Michaluk of Sturgis. Funeral service was held in the chapel of Leson�s Funeral home. ANAKA � Steve (Stefan) Anaka was born in 1884 in Austria. In 1902, Steve, his father Todor and a sister immigrated to Canada, from Bukowina, Austria. Steve worked on the railroad for a time and later as a blacksmith with surveyors that were surveying the local area. In 1903, he filed on a homestead in the Stenen area. Steve was the first member of the Goodhue School board and a councilor for division No. 3 in the R.M. of Clayton, when it was first organized. In 1913, he married Ksenka Parasiuk and they had a family of seven children, Fred, Dorothy, Peter, John, Nick, Marie and Anne. Steve passed away in 1931. ANAKA - Zovie Anaka, 90 of the Stenen district, passed away June 26, 2002 at the Kamsack Nursing Home. Born on February 15, 1912 in the Stenen district to George and Annie Anaka, she attended Goodhue School. She helped on the family farm, but as she matured, she looked after her aging parents and two brothers. She was a long time member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, north of Stenen. Predeceased by her parents, George and Annie; three brothers, John, Mike and Bill; three sisters, Ann Anaka, Mary Reilly and Pauline Stevens; she is survived by two sisters, Wasylena Anaka of Canora and Olga Michaluk of Sturgis. BAZANSKY � Bill (William) Bazansky 80, of Stenen, passed away February 26, 2001 at the Canora Hospital. Born on March 14, 1920, in Stenen to John and Mary (Wihnan) Bazansky, he attended George Albert School. He worked on the family farm until he was called into the army in 1941. He served in various parts of Canada, but mostly on the West Coast, until he was discharged in 1945. He returned to the farm and during the winter months, he worked in a pulp camp. He operated a bulldozing company for a short time, but returned to farming. In 1949, he was struck with polio and was partially paralyzed. With therapy, he began walking with a limp. In 1954, he built a house with his father in Stenen. He retired in 1978 and continued to live in Stenen. Predeceased by his parents, John and Mary, two brothers, Mike and Steve, and two sisters, Lena Smalec and Sadie Bazansky, he is survived by two brothers, Harry (Florence) of Stenen and Peter (Dora) of Stenen; four sisters, Olga (George) Senko of Edmonton, Pauline Bazansky of Jarvis, ON, Anne (Ed) Kindratsky of Stenen and Dorothy Pawloski of Winnipeg. BAZANSKI � Mary (nee Kushenir) Bazanski, 93, of the Preeceville Nursing home and formerly of Stenen, died on December 24, 1980. Born to William and Dora Kushenir in Western Ukraine in 1888, she immigrated to Canada in 1901 with her aunt. They first settled in the Yorkton area, and then took a homestead south of Stenen. She married Dmetro Bazanski at Stenen in 1904. In 1953, the couple retired and moved to Stenen, where she lived until moving to the Preeceville Nursing Home two years ago. She was a member of the Orthodox Church at Stenen. Predeceased by her husband in 1967, and a daughter, Dora Keller in 1967, she is survived by a son, George of Stenen; three daughters, Alice Wenarchuk of Canora, Annie Denduke of Kirkland Lake, ON and Mary Black of Port Alberni, BC; a brother, Alexander Kushenir of Ukraine; a sister, Marie Shuparski of Stenen; 16 grandchildren an 30 great-grandchildren. BAZANSKY � Mike Bazansky age 80 of Stenen, died on April 27, 1992 in the Canora Hospital. Born on December 22, 1911 in the Stenen district, he was the son of John and Mary (Wihnan) Bazansky. He attended George Albert School and then worked on the family farm. On November 7, 1940 he married Mary Zahara in the Stenen district. They farmed in the Stenen district and continued to live on the farm after they retired in 1977. He was a member of St Mary�s Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Predeceased by his parents and a sister, Lena Smalac, he is survived by his wife, Mary; a son, Don (Elaine) of Camrose, AB; a daughter Faye (Clarence) Munchinsky of Saskatoon; four brothers, Steve, Harry (Florence), Pete (Dora) and Bill all of Stenen; five sisters, Olga (George) Senko of Edmonton, Pauline Bazansky of Jarvis, ON, Anne (Edward) Kindratsky of Stenen, Dorothy (Jack) Pawloski of Winnipeg and Sadie Bazansky of Canora; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. BESKOWINY - Alex Beskowiny was born in 1881 in Doroszoutz, Bukowina, Austria and served in the Austrian army. On May 29, 1907 he married Wasylka Shuparski. Alex immigrated to Canada and purchased a homestead, six and a half miles north of Stenen. In November of 1912, his wife and two children joined him. They had a total of eleven children: Bill, Pearl, Mary, Ann, Kay, Mike, Joyce, Joe and Olga and two children died in infancy. Alex passed away in 1931. BESKOWINY � Mary Beskowiny 85 of Yorkton and formerly of the Stenen district, passed away September 17, 2004 at the Yorkton Nursing Home. Born on March 24, 1919 on the family farm in the Stenen district to Mike and Anna (Mirka) Ozirney, she attended Frame Lake School. She worked on the family farm until she married Mike Beskowiney on August 1, 1940, at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church. She was an active partner in the farming enterprise. She was a faithful churchgoer and sang in the church choir. They retired from farming in the late 1970�s. Predeceased by her parents, Make and Anna, and two sisters, Sadie Chalenchuk and Pauline Ostapuk, she is survived by her husband, Mike of Yorkton; two sons, Jerry of Drumheller and Ernie (Dorinda) of Benalto AB; two daughters, Alice (Roger) Keller of Canora, Shirley (Brian Halarewich) of Yorkton; a brother, Wasyl Ozirney of Canora; a sister Lena Swehla of Brandon; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. BESKOWINY � Ruth Beskowiny age 70 years of Saskatoon and formerly of the Stenen district, passed away on Feb 22, 1990. Funeral service was held at the Holy Assumption St. Mary Church near Stenen. Ruth was born on April9, 1919 in Stenen the daughter of Wasyl and Justina Anaka. There were 13 children in the family. At the age of three, they moved one mile west of Stenen and f a few years later they moved four and a half miles west of Stenen. From there he went to Manana School to grade eight, then she stayed home to help her mother. In 1936, she married William Beskowiney and they farmed six miles northwest of Stenen for thirty years. Three raised three sons and one daughter. Ruth loved gardening and was always reserving fruit, jams and baking. She sang in the Church choir and always worked in the kitchen for community events. Ruth was predeceased by seven brothers, Alex, John, Metro, Mike, Pete, George and Paul Beskowiney; granddaughter Glenda in 1962; Ruth leaves to mourn her passing, her loving husband, William of Saskatoon; two sons, Peter (Barb) and Harold; daughter, Joyce (Al) Braun, two sisters. BESKOWINY - Wasylena Beskowiny was born in Austria in 1888. She married Alex Beskowiny on May 29, 1907. Her husband immigrated to Canada and purchased a homestead north of Stenen. Wasylena and their son Bill immigrated to Canada on November 11, 1912 to join her husband. They had eleven children, Bill, Pearl, Mary, Ann, Kay, Mike, Joyce, Joe, Olga and two girls that died in infancy. Wasylena, continued to live on the farm after her husband passed away in 1931. She later married Jim Wewchar and they farmed southwest of Stenen, until Jim passed away. She then moved into the village of Stenen until her health became poor and she went to live with her daughter in Preeceville for five years. She then resided in the Preeceville Lions� Hostel until her passing on April 3, 1972 BESKOWINEY � William Beskowiney, 87 of Saskatoon and formerly of the Stenen area, passed away on November 2, 1995 at the Saskatoon City Hospital. He was born on April 24, 1908 in Dorowishtzy, Bokovenia, Austria, to Alex and Vaselka (Shuparski) Beskowiney. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1911. He attended George Albert School and in 1936, married Ruth Anaka in Stenen. They farmed north of Stenen. In 1968, they moved to Sturgis and in 1987, they moved to Saskatoon. He worked for Remco Memorial services for 25 years and was noted for his masonry work and headstones. He was among the organizers of a number of community organizations such as the Farmers union, the Credit Union, snowplow Club and the Bull club. He was the president of the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church for 50 years and was in charge of the cemetery for much of the same period. Predeceased by his parents; his wife, Ruth in 1991; a son Alexander; two sisters, Olga and Joyce Arlow and a granddaughter, Glenda Beskowiney. Two sons survive him, Peter of Regina and Harold (Marcia) of Brockville, ON. a daughter, Joyce (Al) Braun of Saskatoon; two brothers, Mike (Mary) of Theodore and Joe (Jenny) of Windsor, ON; five sisters, Pearl Kortellos, Ann Kalturnyk of Yorkton, Olga (Stan) Spenol of California, Mary (Alex) Ozirney of Stoney Mtn, MB and Katie Keena of St. Catherine�s, ON; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. CHEHORSKY � Katrina (nee Dutchak) Chehorsky Mitran, age 95 of the Gateway Lodge in Canora, and formerly of Stenen, passed away on April 10, 1985. Funeral service held in St. Demetrius Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Stenen and burial in St. Mary�s Orthodox Cemetery, north of Stenen. She was born September 21, 1889 in Czernowitz, Austria to Mike and Nattie Dutchak. She came to Canada in 1918, with her first husband Metro Chehorsky and they settled in the Glen Elder district, later moving to a farm six mile north of Stenen and then to Stenen, where they lived approximately 28 years. She then lived in Winnipeg with her daughter, until July 1981 when she moved to Canora, taking up residence in the Gateway Lodge. She was a member of St. Demetrius Orthodox Church parish at Stenen and a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Women�s club at Stenen. Her second marriage to John Mitran, took place in St. Mary�s Orthodox Church at Stenen. Predeceased by her first husband, Metro and her second husband, John, six children in infancy and a son William Chehorsky in 1984 and a grandson, Norman Chemerys, a brother Metro Dutchak and a sister, Anna Rogozinski, she is survived by a daughter, Mary Chemerys of Toronto; 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. DIDORAK � Tom Didorak, passed away February 14, 1977 at Vancouver, where cremation took place. Funeral service for Tom was held in the Russian Orthodox Church north of Stenen. His ashes were placed in a grave alongside that of his wife Mary, who predeceased him in 1926. He is survived by two daughters, Ann Mintenko of Port Clements, BC and Dorothy Clark of Burnaby, BC; and six grandchildren. FETCHUK � Dora Fetchuk was born in 1921 on a homestead in the Stenen area. Her parents were Michael and Paraska (Polly) Fetchuk. She attended George Albert School for two years and then contacted diphtheria, and passed away in 1928. FETCHUK � Margarite Fetchuk was born in 1913, to parents Michael and Paraska on the family homestead north of Stenen. She attended George Albert School, then went to work for Dr. Green. Margarite contacted diphtheria and passed away in 1928. FETCHUK � Polly Fetchuk was born in 1880, at Doroszoutz, Austria to parents Steve and Warwara Bazanski. She came to Canada in 1903 with her parents, two brothers, a sister and a son Metro Muslake, who was six years old. After arriving in Canada, she met and married Michael Fetchuk. They settled on a homestead north of Stenen, where they built a one-room house covered with sod. Her husband passed away in 1949. Her children were Sophie, Anne, Mary, Sadie, Fred, Lena, Margarite, Pete, Kathy, Rose and Dora. Polly passed away in 1954. KALTURNYK � Anne Coste Kalturnyk, 86 of Anderson Lodge in Yorkton and formerly of Sturgis, passed away on July 3, 2000. Funeral held in Grace United Church in Sturgis. Born on August 6, 1913 near Stenen, she attended George Albert School and at the age of 12, began working for the Kalturnyk and Bailey families as a domestic. She graded eggs and later completed her grade 12 and worked as a practical nurse at St. Joseph�s Hospital in Toronto for about 30 years. She was a member of the READ Club, UCW, and enjoyed bowling, curling and slow-pitch ball. Predeceased by her first husband, Peter Coste, and her second husband, Nicholas Kalturnyk, a brother, Bill and a sister Joyce, she is survived by three step-sons, Kenneth, William and Blake, all of Winnipeg; a stepdaughter, Linda of Winnipeg; two brothers, Joseph of Toronto an Michael of Yorkton; four sisters, Pearl of Preeceville, Mary of Stonewall, Olga of California. KALTURYNK - Dora (Dokia) Kalturynk Beshowiney, age 94, passed away at Winnipeg in 1976. Funeral service held in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Orthodox Church at Stenen, with burial in the parish cemetery. Born in the Ukraine, Dokia Kunetski, married Peter Kalturnyk in 1897. They came to Canada in 1899 and settled in the Canora district. They moved to Hyas in 1919. Predeceased by her first husband in 1934, Mrs. Kalturnyk married John Beskowiney in 1936. In 1943, they moved to Stenen. In 1974 she moved to Winnipeg to live with her son. Predeceased by her second husband in 1954; three brothers, John in 1972, William in 1923 and Steven in 1944; a daughter Ann in 1974; two brothers Nick and Hant and a sister Elizabeth, she is survived by a son, Nick Kalturynk of Winnipeg; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Koroluk of Hyas; a sister, Annie Monich of Canora; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. KALTURNYK � Nicholas (Nick) Kalturnyk, 77 of Sturgis, passed away August 8, 1994 in Hyas. Funeral held in Grace United Church in Sturgis. Nick was born September 18, 1916 south of Canora, near the village of Burgis. At the age of three, the family moved to a farm three miles northeast of Hyas. He attended Lake Helen School until 1932 then worked on the family farm and later in a bush north of Hudson Bay and in a gold mine in Ontario. In 1942 he enlisted with the RCAF. He served a couple of years in Canada, then went overseas where he served for a few years at a heavy bomber station in England. Upon his return he worked as carpenter in Windsor, ON. In 1949, he married Carol Dalrymple in Windsor. They moved to Sask. in 1954 He did carpentry work and farmed in the Hyas district. In 1957 they moved to Clemenceau. In 1969 they left the farm and moved to Winnipeg where he worked as a carpenter. He also worked on the D.E.W line in the Arctic. In 1970 he separated from his wife and was later divorced. He remarried Anne Coote in 1972 in Winnipeg. They moved to Sturgis in 1977 and he retired in 1981. Predeceased by his parents, three brothers and one sister, he is survived by his wife Anne; three sons, Kenneth and William of Winnipeg and Blake (Leslie) of Williston, N.D.; one daughter, Linda of Airdrie, AB.; one sister, Mary (Andrew) Koroluk of Hyas; and five grandchildren. KORNEYCHUK � Annie (Oksanna) Korneychuk, 58 drowned in a dugout. The water was about 12 feet deep. She slipped as she attempted to get a pail of water. Mrs. Korneychuk and her husband, William, who lived at Sturgis, had gone to their farm about 3� miles northeast of Stenen, for the weekend. Born near Stenen, Ann Mirka was educated at the George Albert School, north of Stenen. She married William Korneychuk in 1935 and they farmed in the district. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Michael of Stenen and Allan of Calgary; four brothers, Nick of Canora, and George, Alex and Andrew of Stenen; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. John Mirka and two sisters and a brother. KORNEYCHUK � William (Bill) Korneychuk, 82 of Sturgis, passed away June 7, 1986. Born on August 10, 1903 in Poland, he attended school and served in the army there. In 1928, at the age of 25 he immigrated to Canada, working as a farm laborer at Vegreville, AB and as a laborer at Port Churchill. He was employed with the CNR for about six years. In 1934, he settled in the Stenen district and started farming, and that year he married Annie Mirka in St. Mary�s Greek Orthodox Church. They farmed until her death in 1969 and he continued until 1971 when he retired to live in Sturgis. Predeceased by his parents and his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mike of Sturgis and Allan of Fort Langley, BC and five grandchildren. KOROLUK � Anastasia (nee Morgotch) Koroluk, was born in the village of Kitsman, province of Bukovina, in the year 1875. She was one of seven children born to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morgotch. She married Nickolai Koroluk and they had eight children: Mike (Mihalo), Metro (Dmetro), Annie (Anitsa), Wasyl, Edith (Domna), John (Ivan), George and Andrew. In 1909 they decided to immigrate to Canada and sold all their possessions to raise money for their trip. They arrived June 19, 1909 At Montreal and then took the CPR train to Canora. They homesteaded north of Hyas. Two more children were born on the homestead, Ufer (Onufry) and Nick. Anastasia became ill, and was diagnosed with cancer. She passed away on January 5, 1930. KOROLUK � Gust Koroluk passed away suddenly on April 23, 2012, at the age of 85 years. He was born on October 27, 1926, to Metro and Katherine Koroluk. He grew up on the family farm north of Hyas. As a young boy, Gust attended school at Lake Helen, Frame Lake and Pelly. During his youth he helped on the farm with the livestock, haying, seeding and repairing equipment. In 1950, he married Nellie Welgush and they bought their own land north of Stenen in the early 1950�s. Over the years they expanded their farm to include mixed farming. Throughout the years, Gust had additional occupations to supplement the farming income. In 1955, he took an electrician course, which came in hand when electricity came to the area. Gust was a school bus driver for thirteen years. He was also the area barber and helped his neighbour�s with animal veterinary needs. Throughout his life, Gust had many interests; local politics was very interesting to him. He served on the Division 3 council for the RM of Clayton for twenty-three years and also as a reeve. Gust like to hunt and fishing became a major part of his life in his senior years. He loved baseball and was known for his pitching skills. In 1994, he was inducted into the Sask. Baseball Hall of Fame in North Battleford. After he retired from baseball he continued to play in a slow pitch league. At the age of sixteen he taught himself to play the guitar and played and sang at weddings, dances and home parties. Gust will be remembered for his hard work and especially for his love of his farm, where he continued to live until his sudden passing. His parents, brothers, Metro and Peter and his sister Verna Lazaruk predeceased him. Mourning his passing are his loving wife of sixty-one years Nellie; his children, Sandra (Jim) Hunchak, Cynthia (Paul) Beaubien, Brenda (Cliff) Grazier, Bob (Barbara) and Nick (Valerie); grandchildren, Melody, Marla, tom, David, Tim, Daniel, Laura, Stenen, Jeffrey, Kent and Jill; five great grandchildren; sisters, Lillian Steranko, Katherine Doroschuk, Madelyn Zawercuka; Funeral service was held from Leson�s Funeral Home in Canora and burial in St. Mary�s Greek Orthodox Cemetery, north of Stenen. KOROLUK � Katherine (nee Kratchkowsky) Koroluk, age 86 of Sturgis and formerly of the Hyas district, passed away December 21, 1987 in the Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held in St. Demetrius Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Stenen and burial in St. Mary�s Orthodox Cemetery north of Stenen. She was born on April 8, 1901, to Joseph and Eva (Bish) Kratchkowsky in Kutkar Halchinia, Ukraine, which was under the Austrian Empire. In 1909 at the age of 8, she immigrated with her mother, a twin sister and brothers, Joe and Stanley to Canada to join her father, Joseph who had gone to Canada two years earlier. The family settled in the Mikado - Verigin district. She was only able to attend school for a couple of summers. On February 18, 1919, she was married to Metro Koroluk. The couple settled north of Hyas, where they farmed for many years, retiring on the farm. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1979. After the death of her husband in 1979, she moved to Sturgis to live with her daughter, Verna. She was a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and Ukrainian Women�s Association. KOROLUK � Metro Koroluk, age 79 of the Hyas district, passed away August 1, 2004 at the Canora Hospital. He was born October 25, 1924 in the Hyas district to Metro and Katherine (Kratchkowski) Koroluk. He attended Lake Helen School. In 1938, his family moved to the Frame Lake School district, where he continued his schooling. When he left school, he worked on his father�s farm, mainly clearing bush. However, it was a mixed farming operation, and he worked year round. He spent most of his life farming, except for a few years in the 1940�s, when he worked in lumber camps in The Pas area. When he returned, he purchased more land and continued farming. He married Victoria Dzuibek in 1965. Predeceased by his parents and a sister, Mihaleena in childhood, he is survived by his wife, Victoria; four sisters, Lillian Steranko, Verna (Mike) Lazaruk, Madeline (Paul) Zawerucka and Katherine (Mike) Doroschuk; two brotheKoroluk and Peter (Loretta) Koroluk. KOROLUK � Metro Koroluk, 84, passed away on September 2, 1979 in the Yorkton Hospital. Funeral held in St. Demetrius Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Stenen. Born in Austria, he cam to Canada in 1909 at the age of 16 years with his parents. In 1919 he married Katherine Kratchkowski and they took a homestead in the Lake Helen district north of Hyas. In 1938, they moved to Frame Lake area northeast of Stenen to live with their son, Metro and daughter-in-law, Vicky. Predeceased by a daughter, Michaleena in 1921; his father, Nickolie in 1928 and his mother Nastasiak in 1930; three brothers, Mike, Nick and John and two sisters, Edith and Anna, he is survived by his wife; three sons, Metro and Gust of Hyas and Peter of Regina; four daughters, Lillian Steranko and Katherine Doroschuk of Stenen, Verna Lazaruk of Sturgis and Madeline Zawerucha of Yorkton; four brothers, Bill and Andrew of Hyas, George of Benito and Ufer of Canora; 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. KOROLUK � Michelina Koroluk was born in 1919, the daughter of Metro and Katherine Koroluk. She died at the age of two in 1921, during a diphtheria epidemic. KOROLUK � Nickolai Koroluk was born in 1868 in the village of Kitsman, Bukovina, under the Austrian Empire, the only son of Mikailo and Elena Koroluk. He had one sister, Ivona. As a young boy, he was denied the privilege of going to school, but was compelled to help his parents on the family farm. He served a compulsory period of time in the Tsar�s army, when he was eighteen years old. He married Anastasia Morgotch and in June of 1909 they left their homeland, with their eight children and came to Canada, where they homesteaded north of Hyas. On June 10, 1928, Nickolai suddenly became ill and passed away. KRATCHKOWSKY � Pauline Kratchkowsky, 81 of Foam Lake, died June 27, 1997 at the Foam Lake Hospital. Born on June 16, 1916 to Joseph and Eva Kratchkowsky in the Mikado district, she ended up in an institution in Weyburn at an early age because of being handicapped. She moved to a care home for the handicapped in North Battleford, then to a private care home in Borden and later to a nursing home in Saskatoon. She spent the last nine years at the Foam Lake Hospital. Predeceased by her parents, three sisters, Ann Kuz, Katherine Koroluk and Ann in childhood, and four brothers, Joe, Stanley, Gust and Sandy, she is survived by a brother, Mike (Pauline) Kratchkowsky of Edmonton. MALENKI � Martha Malenki, 93 of the Gateway Lodge in Canora and formerly of the Stenen district, died on January 28, 1996 at the Canora Hospital. Born on July 1, 1902 in Celo Shypkiw in the province Volyn in Ukraine to Sawko and Veronika (Forsachuk) Lukianik, she spent her childhood in the Ukraine. On February 23, 1919, she married Emil Malenki in her home village. A decade later with three children, they came to Canada and settled in the Stenen area. They farmed until 1964, when they retired to Stenen. When her health declined, she moved to seniors housing unit in Canora in 1982. After her husband died in 1991, she moved to the Gateway Lodge. She and her husband were founding members of St. Demetrius Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Stenen. She was a member of the Kniahynia Olha Ukrainian Women�s Association from 1952. Predeceased by her parents, her husband Emil in 1991, a son Harry in infancy, a daughter Nina in infancy, a daughter Olga in childhood, three brothers and three sisters in the Ukraine and two sisters, Nellie Semeschuk and Mary Kaminsky, she is survived by three sons, John (Olga), William (Kay) and Harry (Lena) all of Winnipeg. four daughters, Nina (Peter) Ozirney of Canora, Violet (Metro) Salyn of Brandon, Elizabeth Calwell of Saskatoon and Olga (Jim) Bymak of Yorkton; two sisters, Olga and Anne, both of the Ukraine; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. MARANDUK � Nikolai Maranduk, age 81, passed away in 1969 in the Preeceville Hospital, after a long illness. Funeral service was held in the Holy Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, north of Stenen and burial in the church cemetery. He was born in Romania in 1888 and came to Canada in 1907. He was married at Hyas in 1914 and farmed in the Hyas district until retiring in 1959 to live at Hyas. Besides his wife Anna, he is survived by eight sons, Bill, Nick and Alex of Campbell River, BC. John of Hyas, Metro of Kelvington and Fred, Mike and George of Toronto; a daughter, Mrs. Joe Matusko of Regina; a sister Mary Sawchuk of Pelly; 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. MASKWICH - Lena Maskwich was born on the family homestead, 8 miles NE of Stenen to parents George and Annie (Shuparski) Maskwich. She had two sisters, Mary and Pearl. Lena passed away at the age of 16 in 1936. MINTENKO � Arthur Thomas Mintenko, 81 of Stenen, died on February 3, 1995 at the Preeceville Hospital. Born on January 6, 1914 in Stenen, he was educated at Armside School and worked as a farm laborer, bull cook, saw filer and miner. Predeceased by his parents Nazarie Mintenko and Anna Didorak, his first wife Jean Godlard, and three brothers, Steve, George and Mike; he is survived by his common-law wife Mary L�Heureux, and a brother Bill (Polly) Mintenko of Sturgis. MINTENKO � George Mintenko, 81, of Yarbo and formerly of Stenen, passed away July 19, 1984 in St. Anthony�s Hospital in Esterhazy. Born on March 3, 1903 in Austria, he was the son of Harry and Anne (Diderak) Mintenko. As an infant, he came to Canada with his parents and they settled in the Stenen district. He married Mary Yagelnesky on April 11, 1945 at Preeceville and they lived at various places in Sask., where he worked as a mechanic. They moved to Yarbo and he was employed with the mine at Esterhazy. After his retirement, they continued to reside at Yarbo. Predeceased by a brother, Mike, he is survived by his wife; two sons, Harold of Lethbridge and George of Watrous; a daughter, Susie (George) Charchuk of Hamilton, ON; three brothers, Steve and Tom both of Stenen and Bill of Sturgis; and 11 grandchildren. MINTENKO � Marie Jean Mintenko, age 78 of Stenen, passed away at her home on June 27, 1981. Funeral service held in the chapel of Leson�s Funeral Home. Born at Rouyn, Quebec, she married Tom Mintenko in All Saint�s Church, Noranda, Quebec, on January 31, 1943. After their marriage, they returned to Stenen, where they have since resided. Predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Goddard and a brother George, she is survived by her husband. MINTENKO � Mary Mintenko of Preeceville and formerly of Esterhazy, died on November 22, 1992. The funeral service was held in Trinity United Church in Preeceville. Born on October 10, 1922 in the Hyas district to Joe and Annie Yagelnesky, she was born with asthma. Health difficulties prevented her from attending school. On April 12, 1945, she married George Mintenko at the United Church manse in Preeceville. They made their home in Stenen, but her husband worked in various communities across the province. During many of those years she worked as a cook in a number of restaurants. During those years they continued to maintain the home in Stenen. In 1960, she moved to Esterhazy, but in 1989, she moved to Preeceville. From the early part of 1990, she spent most of her life in the Preeceville Union Hospital. Predeceased by her parents, four parents, Myron, Laddie, John and Pete, a sister, Jenny Kiryluik and her husband, George, she is survived by a son, George of Calgary, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. MINTENKO � Steve Mintenko passed away February 29, 1992 at the age of 85. Born on December14, 1906 in the Hyas district, he was the son of Harry and Anna (nee Didorak) Mintenko. He helped on the family farm and worked, as a laborer is life, mainly in Sask. with just a short time in BC. Predeceased by his parents; four brothers, George, Mike and two in infancy; and a sister in infancy, he is survived by two brothers, William (Polly) of Sturgis and Tom of Stenen. MIRKA � Alex Mirka, 57, died on August 23, 1970 in the Preeceville Hospital. Funeral service were held in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, north of Stenen and burial in the parish cemetery. Born in the Stenen district to John and Wasylka Mirka, he attended George Albert School and farmed in the Stenen district with his brothers. He is survived by three brothers, Nick of the Gateway Lodge in Canora and George and Andrew of Stenen. MIRKA � George Mirka, 70 of Stenen, passed away on July 19, 1981 in the Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held in the chapel of Leson�s Funeral home in Canora and burial in St. Mary�s Orthodox Church Cemetery, north of Stenen. Born to John and Wasyelena (Yakushyk) Mirka in 1911 on the family farm near Stenen, he attended the George Albert School. He farmed north of Stenen, before moving to the village in 1976. Predeceased by his parents, four sisters and two brothers, he is survived by a brother, Andrew of Stenen. MIZOWEK - Fedora Mizowek, 70 of Stenen, passed away in 1976 in the Canora Union Hospital. Funeral service held in the Stenen Community Hall and the burial in the Greek Orthodox Cemetery, north of Stenen. Born at Smiden, Ukraine, Fedora Zinchuk married Platon Mizowek in 1922 and they came to Canada in 1936, farming north-west of Stenen. In 1957, they retired to reside at Stenen. Predeceased by her husband in 1962 and three children in infancy, she is survived by four daughters, Nadia Bodnarek of Stenen, Doris Kornieko of Toronto and two daughters in Ukraine; two brothers, Steve Zinchuk of Swan River and Harry Zinchuk of Hyas, and four grandchildren in Canada. ONESCHUK � John Oneschuk, passed away on January 22, 1977. Funeral was held in St. Mary�s Greek Orthodox Church, 3 miles north of Stenen. He was born in Western Ukraine and came to Canada in 1903 with his parents, Nicolia and Dokia Oneschuk and two brothers, Fred and Onufrey. The family settled north of Hyas, where he farmed. He married Annie Bulawka in 1913. Predeceased by a daughter, Edith in infancy and two brothers, Fred and Onufrey, he is survived by his wife; three sons, John J., William and Metro of Hyas; two daughters, Polly Hanson of Hyas and Mary Berube of Dorion, ON; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. OZIRNEY - Anna Ozirney (nee Mirka) was born in 1898 and in 1916 married Mike Ozirney. They farmed nine miles northeast of Stenen. They had five children: Mary, Sadie, Lena, Wasyl and Pauline. Annie passed away at a very young age of 34 in 1932 OZIRNEY � John Ozirney age 72, of Yorkton and formerly of Stenen, passed away on September 9, 1980. Funeral held in St. Mary�s Greek Orthodox Church, north of Stenen. Born in Austria, he came to Canada with his parents in 1914. The family settled on a farm near Canora. The family resettled in the Stenen district, where they farmed. John received his education at the George Albert School. In 1931, he married Julia Smud at Stenen and continued to farm with his brothers, Alex and Pete, and later with his son, Peter, until 1975 when he and his wife retired to live at Yorkton. He served as a church board member of St. Mary�s Greek Orthodox Church. Predeceased by a daughter Annette in 1962, two brothers, Bill and Mike and a sister Mary Surcon, he is survived by his wife; three sons, Peter of Stenen, Fred of Saskatoon and Jim of Calgary; two daughters, Marg Beaver of Saskatoon and Jeanette Sunduk of Sturgis; two brothers, Alex of Winnipeg and Pete of Stenen and 12 grandchildren. OZIRNEY - Mike Ozirney, age 82, died on April 3, 1977 in the Preeceville hospital. Funeral held in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church north of Stenen. Born in the Ukraine, he came to Canada in 1911 and worked in the Canora and Hyas areas and later farmed. Predeceased in 1932 by his wife, Annie (Mirka) whom he married at Stenen and a sister in 1956, he is survived by a son, Wasyl of Hyas; four daughters, Mary Beskowiney of Swan River, Sadie Chalanchuk of Wawanesa, MB, Lena Byneshewski and Pauline Ostopuk of Brandon; four brothers, Bill and Pete of Stenen and John and Alex of Yorkton; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. OZIRNEY � Teddy Ozirney was born in 1927 to parents, Wasyl and Mary Ozirney. He spent his three short years on the family farm near Stenen and passed away in 1930. OZIRNEY � Wasyl Ozirney of Stenen, passed away May 2, 1978 at the age of 75 years and 11 months. Born May 20, 1902 in Zastowma, Ukraine, he came to Canada with his parents in 1913. On October 19, 1929, he married Mary Kitchen and settled on a farm in the Stenen district, where he lived until his passing. Active in church affairs, he served as church secretary for more than 30 years. Predeceased by his parents, his wife, Mary in 1968; an infant son, Teddy in 1930; a sister Mary Surcon in 1954 and a brother Mike in 1977; he is survived by two sons, Mike of Yorkton and Lorne of Regina; a daughter, Victoria Swan of Brandon; five grandchildren and three brothers, Pete of Stenen, and John and Alex of Yorkton. RURAK � Wasylka "Sara" Rurak, 90 of the Gateway Lodge in Canora and formerly of Stenen, passed away on October 24, 1981. Funeral service held in the Stenen Community Hall. Born at Dorishiwtski, Austria on December 20, 1890, she was the daughter of Steve and Warwara Bazanski. She came to Canada in 1903 with her parents and they settled north of Stenen. After her marriage to Metro Kudeba in 1909 at Stenen, they farmed in the Usherville district. Her husband died in 1918 and she was remarried to Pete Rurak in 1920 at Preeceville. The couple continued to farm for four years and then moved to the Goldbank school district. After the death of her husband in 1937, she continued to live at the farm until 1953, when she moved to Stenen. She became a resident of the Gateway Lodge at Canora in 1978. Predeceased by a daughter, Lena in infancy, a sister, Paraska Fachuk and two brothers, Metro and John Bazanski, she is survived by four sons, Alex Kudeba of Winnipeg, John Kudeba Kelowna, Mike Kudeba of Spirit River, AB and Steve Kudeba of Preeceville; four daughters, Mary Rieben of Canora, Anne Medloski of Portage la Prairie, Helen Samborski and Elizabeth Magdee both of Winnipeg; a step daughter, Annie Wiwcharuk of Endeavour; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. SEMESCHUK � Tymosh Semeschuk was born in the Ukraine in 1897. In August 1928 he immigrated to Canada with his wife Wasca and their four children, Alex, Anna, George and Paul and arrived Sept. 4, 1928 in Halifax. They came to the Hyas district, where they spent their first winter and then moved to a quarter of land in the Frame Lake district. Three more children were born to them in Canada, John, Pete and William. In 1934, they settled in the RM of Clayton, where they lived until their passing. Tymosh passed away in 1940 SHUPARSKI � Andrew Shuparski was born in 1892 in the village of Doroszoutz, Austria. He came to Canada in 1910, with his younger brother Alec to join their older brother Nick, who was already in Canada. Andrew settled on a homestead, twelve miles north of Stenen. He was a carpenter, but had the ability to do most anything. He made and played the violin and tsemvali. He married Annie Manziuk on February 18, 1919. Andrew and Annie had two children, Johnny, Nestor and raised Mary Parker after her mother died. In 1928 they sold their homestead and purchased land nine miles north of Stenen. In June 1931, Andrew passed away at the age of 39 years. SHUPARSKI � Mary (nee Kushneruk) Shuparski was born in Austria in 1903. She came to Canada with her sister in 1924, leaving behind her mother and brother. She married Steve Shuparski in 1924 and they farmed north of Stenen. They had seven children. After her husband passed away in 1959, Mary moved to Stenen and lived there until 1981, when she became a resident of the Gateway Lodge in Canora. SHUPARSKI � Steve Shuparski, born in 1896, came to Canada from Austria, at the age of 16, with his sister Wasylka and her son Bill in 1911. His parents arrived in 1914 with Steve�s siblings, Mike, Andrew and Annie. Steve worked in the Canora area, then rented a farm north of Stenen, which he later purchased. In 1924, he married Mary Kushneruk and to this union they had seven children, Pauline, Doris, Gladys, Grace, Metro, Nick and Bill. Steve passed away in 1959. SHUPARSKI � William (Bill) Shuparski, age 54 of Invermay and formerly of the Stenen district, passed away May 5, 1990 in Regina General Hospital. Born on July 14, 1925 in the Stenen district, he was the son of Steve and Mary (Krushniruik) Shuparski. He remained on the family farm until he married Helen Jensen on Nov 8, 1953. The couple settled in the Stenen district. He was in grain farming for 35 years. In 1986, he sold his farm and the couple moved to Invermay to retire. He was active in sports such as hockey and baseball, which he coached and participated in with his children. Predeceased by his parents and a brother, Metro, he is survived by his wife, Helen; three sons, Keith (Linda) of Regina, Ken of Regina and Darren of Regina; two daughters, Darlene (Calvin) Carlson of Yorkton and Delores of Moose Jaw; a brother, Nick (Mary) of Regina; four sisters, Pauline Soltys of Calgary, Doris (Bill) Bell of Smithers, BC, Tammy Sharp of Yorkton and Gladys Perpeluk of Yorkton and two grandchildren. SOWA - Roman Sowa was born in Poland in 1897. He married Theodozia Mustchuk in the Village of Nowa Wies, Poland. Roman served in the army in WW1 and was discharged after being wounded. He came to Canada in 1926 and worked at various jobs in ON and MB, mostly building the railway and working his way to SK. He then bought two farms in the Danbury district. His wife and daughter Anne joined him in 1930. Four sons were born to them in Canada, John, Peter, George and Harry. Roman passed away in 1951. SOWA � Theodzia Sowa (nee Muschuk), 75 of Stenen, died on October 6, 1971 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral service held in the Greek Orthodox Church at Stenen and burial in the Orthodox Cemetery, north of Stenen. Born in 1896 in Poland, she came to Canada in 1930, with her daughter Annie, to join her husband, who had immigrated four years earlier. They farmed north of Stenen. She lived there until 1960 and then moved to Stenen. Predeceased by her husband Roman in 1951, she is survived by her daughter, Annie Fincaryk of Sturgis; four sons, John of Danbury, Peter of Williams Lake, George of Campbell River and Harry of Hyas; 14 grandchildren and a great grandchild. STERANKO � Steve "Stefan" Steranko emigrated to Canada from Poland to Edson, Alberta in 1925. Shortly after he got a job on the Hudson Bay Railway route between The Pas and Churchill. In 1928 he came to Stenen and settled in the Frame Lake School district. In 1929, his wife Martha and five children: Anne, Pete, Laddie, Julia and John joined him from Poland. Mary, Stephanie, Mike and Helen were born in Canada. Steve died in 1938, at the age of 48 years. TERON � John F. Teron, 74 of Stenen, died on November 15, 1994 at Yorkton Hospital. Born on July 7, 1920 to Fred and Elsie Teron in the Stenen district, he attended Ormside School. He farmed the family homestead until 1979 when he retired to Stenen. He was a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and a member of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Bill and a sister Mary. TERON � Wasylena Teron, age 78, died in Canora Hospital in August 1973. Funeral was held in the Russian Orthodox Church at Stenen. Born in the Western Ukraine (nee Kunetsky) in 1895, she came to Canada in 1914 to the Stenen district. She worked for a time and in 1918 married Fred Teron at Stenen. They farmed in the Stenen district. Predeceased by her husband in 1953, a daughter, Mary in 1951, and two sons, Mike and Nick and a daughter Anne in infancy, she is survived by two sons, John of Stenen and William of Sundre, AB and 5 grandchildren. UKALCHUK � Terenti Ukalchuk, age 86, passed away on September 28, 1978 in Canora Union Hospital. Born in the Ukraine, he came to Canada in 1928 and worked in Ontario until moving in 1930 to the Stenen district, where he worked on farms. He later opened a shoe repair shop at Stenen. He served in the armed forces in the First World War and was a prisoner of war in Austria until December 18, 1918, when he was released. He was an active member and treasurer of the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church board at Stenen. He is survived by two sons, Bill of Medicine Hat and Alexander in the Ukraine, and two daughters, Elizabeth Anaka of Regina and Marina in the Ukraine. WELGUSH � Metro Welgush was born December 17, 1927, on the family farm near Hyas to Michael and Jessica (Wasylenchuk) Welgush. He attended Frame Lake School, which was about two miles from his home. His father died when Metro was nine years old and he took responsibility for the farm and his family. During many winter months, he worked in Snow Lake, MB. He made ice for the curling rink for about 25 years. He also worked for Serdachny Auctions for a number of years and worked for many neighbours, especially during harvest time. Metro was found dead of natural causes on January 5, 2000, a distance away from where his vehicle became stuck, which was 7 miles north and four miles east of Stenen. Predeceased by his parents and step-brother, John Welgush, he is survived by four sisters, Mary Lebchuk of The Pas, Nellie (Gust) Koroluk of Hyas, Olga Greexe of Danbury and Lillian Sokaluk of Winnipeg WELGUSH � Mike Welgush was born in 1892 in Bukovinia, Austria. He came to Canada with his parents in 1902. After his first wife died, leaving him with two small children, John and Lillian, he married Jessie Wasylenchuk in 1925. Mike and Jessie had four children: Metro, Mary, Nellie and Olga. They farmed 8 miles north of Hyas. Mike passed away in 1938. WIHNAN � Mike Wihnan was born in 1861. In 1903, Mike and his wife Polly and three children, came to Canada from Bukowina, Ukraine. They first homesteaded in the Theodore area and in 1911 moved to a farm, north of Stenen. Their children were Mary, John, Annie and Lena, Bill, Harry, Alex and Kay. They lived there until 1936 and then their son Alex bought the land. Mike passed away in 1936. ZAHARA � Anna (nee Yuzek) Zahara, 95 of Sturgis, passed away on October 4, 1989 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held in Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sturgis. Born on November 12, 1893 in Doroshiwtzy, Austria, she immigrated to Canada with her mother in 1905 to join her father, who had immigrated in 1903 and was farming north of Stenen. She married Kost Zahara and farmed in the Stenen area before moving to Stenen. She then lived with her daughter, Polly at Sturgis, until she was hospitalized on June 20th. She enjoyed reading, gardening, having visitors and attending church. Predeceased by her husband, Kost in 1957, a son Peter in 1977, two brothers and one sister in infancy, she is survived by Mike (Yo) of Vernon, BC, George of Canora; three daughters, Polly (Fred) Fetchuk of Sturgis, Mary (Mike) Bazansky of Stenen and Dorothy (Jack) Magnell of Nipawin; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. ZAHARA � George Zahara, 75, of Canora, passed away May 31, 1988 at his residence. He was born August 22, 1922 on the family farm in the Stenen district to Kost and Annie (Yuzek) Zahara, he grew up on the family farm and attended Frame Lake School, north of Stenen. He took over operation of the family farm in 1944 and farmed until 1984, when he decided to rent out his land. During his farming years, he worked at various construction jobs in western Canada. He worked on the Deifenbaker Dam near Outlook and then moved on to Grande Prairie, AB, Port Hardy, BC and Grand Rapids, MB. He enjoyed playing baseball and working with horses. Predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Mike and Pete, he is survived by three sisters, Polly (Fred) Fetchuk of Sturgis, Mary Bazansky of Canora and Dorthy (Jack) Magnell of Saskatoon. ZAHARA � Kost Zahara was born in 1883 in Austria and came to Canada in 1905. He worked for farmers, until purchasing his own homestead, eight miles north of Stenen. In 1912, he married Anna Yuzek. Kost was a councilor for the R.M. of Clayton. Kost and Anna had six children. He passed away in 1957. ZAHARA � Peter Zahara, age 58, died on November 28, 1977 in Trail Regional Hospital. Funeral service was held in the Orthodox Church, north of Stenen. Peter was born near Stenen and attended Frame Lake School. He worked in the district and in 1940 enlisted in the Canadian Army. After his discharge he returned to Stenen and later worked at Brandon, Portage La Prairie and Saskatoon before going to Trail, BC, where he was employed by the Federal Gov't. He was predeceased by his father in 1957 and is survived by his mother, Annie of Stenen; brothers, Mike of Vernon, BC and George of Stenen; three sisters, Polly Fetchuk of Sturgis, Mary Bazansky of Stenen and Dorothy Magnell of Wynyard and 13 nieces and nephews. ZINCHUK � Kindrat Zinchuk was born in 1875 in Poland. In 1930, Kindrat, his wife Tekla and son Harry, immigrated to Canada from the village of Smiden in the province of Wolyn in Poland. They arrived at Stenen and settled in with son Steve and his family, who had arrived previously and was homesteading. A daughter, Fedora and her husband Platon Mazawek and two daughters, Dora and Nettie settled on a farm across the road from her brother, Steve in 1936. Kindrat and his son Harry purchased a farm six miles northeast of Sturgis in 1940 and built a house. Kondrat passed away June 6, 1943. |
