Name: John Burbank
E-Mail: [email protected]
Counties: Unknown
Surnames: McKENZIE / MASON
Query: I am searching for parents or any data about Alexandria McKENZIE, b. c 1906 in Nova Scotia. She taught school probably in Nova Scotia for two years prior to 1 Sep 1927 when she was to enter nurses training at St. Lukes in New Bedford, Massachusetts, USA.
She became pregnant in the spring of 1927 by William MASON, also evidently from Nova Scotia, and gave birth on 22 Dec 1927 in Jamaica Plains, MA, USA at the Talitha Cumi Nursing Home and Hospital to a dau. whom Alexandria named Rhoda. She kept the baby for four months until an adoption could be arranged. Rhoda was adopted by Harold R. & Sadie (Lothrop) DOMINA of Vermont. They changed Rhoda's name to Dorothy. The woman responsible for the adoption arrangements maintained some correspondence between the natural and adoptive mothers for some years. Dorothy, who is still living, has a letter which the lady wrote stating that Alexandria was very pretty, a nice and intelligent woman who was fond of her Rhoda and interested in her continuing life. William Mason was also described as a nice intelligent fellow. What happened to either Alexandria McKenzie or William Mason is not known. Any information would be appreciated.
My intention in pursuing this is NOT necessarily to bring about any kind of reunion with subsequent relatives but rather to complete ancestry charts for descendants of Dorothy. Dorothy m. 2 Nov 1919 Derby VT Everett Anson, son of William A. & Lillian (Swanson) Willard. They had four children the youngest of whom is Sally, b. 20 Feb 1959 she m. my son, Nathan Jon Burbank. Sally is a doctor of internal medicine and Nathan a musician. They live in Nashville, Tennessee, with their two children.

Counties: Unknown
Surnames: NICHOLS/WHIDDEN
Query: I am looking for information on George Aaron NICHOLS (b.1846) and wife Harriet Susannah WHIDDEN (b.abt.1842). They were married at Melrose Baptist (?) Church July 16, 1867. Their two oldest children, George A. Jr. (June 12, 1864 ?) and John Henry Archibald (Feb. 25, 1869) are believed to have been born in Stillwater? St. Mary's?, where Harriet Whidden probably lived. George Aaron Sr. was probably born? lived? worked? at Mabou, Goldenville or ? Mills. Both may have been Loyalists. The family moved to Newfoundland around 1870 and settled Nicholsville, near Deer Lake, where they farmed near the Humber River. Many residents of this community are direct descendants of this couple. At least two fires may have destroyed family records. I have searched several census reports and posted on the List with little luck. I would appreciate any genealogical background I can get on this family.

Doug Goff, While researching the MacPhee line, I came across your query in the Halifax area. By coincidence a friend was telling me about her family tree and some names and places in Ireland sounded too coincidental. I didn't see an email adress so I am hoping you scan the query site. If you cant get through my email,my husbands is [email protected] .
I am researching the family of MacDonalds from Trenton, N.S., formerly of Judique Creignish, and found out I may have relatives in the Amherst area, I believe on the MacDonald's side of Archibald MacDonald married to Flora (MacIassac). The great Aunts are Margaret and Kay and are presently residing in Amherst, N.S. I remember Margaret visiting us at our home in Reserve Mines C.B. and would bring us clothes. They may have been cousins of my mother Catherine MacDonald of Duke Street Trenton, N.S., who was married to my father Malcolm MacPhee. Mom's sisters are Anne (Harold) MacDonald of Troy , Port Hastings and Theresa (Wilfred) Works of Stellarton. Alex, the only brother, died in Trenton, N.S. in 1992 and my mother Catherine died Jan. 29, 1984. If anyone in Amherst is related or knows Kay and Margaret, you can email me at [email protected]. Thanks a lot!

Query: My gg-grandfather, Samuel GLENN, a blacksmith (b. Ireland 1819) moved to Pictou (maybe Shivers) NS sometime before 1843. About 1843 he married Mary Ann BLAIR (b. 1825, who lived at that time in Hants County, NS). They had three children while in Pictou, NS, Russell (b. 1/13/1844), James (b. 1847), and Samuel (b. 1849). The family moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut between 1851-1853. In 1854 their daughter, Margaret GLENN was born. Russell GLENN served during the Civil War in Company A of the 14th Connecticut Volunteers. Mary Ann BLAIR's parents were James BLAIR (b. 1786) and Mary ? (nicknamed Margaret) (b. 1798). I don't know where James and Mary/Margaret BLAIR originated from, but at some point they lived in Hants County, NS before moving to Bridgeport, CT.
Does anyone have any information on any of these folks? I have hit a stone wall! Does anyone know where Shivers, NS was and what it might be called today? I can't find it on any map. Thanks for the help. Jan Long Orange Park, FL

Surnames: JACKSON / MOORE
Query: I am trying to invewtigate the heritage of my grandmother. Her name was Mable (Jackson-Moore)Shanks. All that I know about my grandmother is that she was born in Nova Scotia in the 1890's to an unmarried woman with the last name Jackson. Due to the shame associated with illigitimacy her grandfather and grandmother raised her as their own and gave her the last name of Jackson. When my great-grandmother did marry it was to a man with the last name Moore, giving my grandmother the name of Mable Jackson-Moore. Mable's real father did keep relations with her until she was around thirteen when he asked Mable to move out west (apparently Alberta?) with him. Unfortunately this was not allowed and they never saw each other again. Mable died in the early 1980's (aged 93) and took this man's name to the grave with her. None of my aunt's or uncle's apparently knows the man's name either. Can anyone out there help? Does anyone have a relative from the Nova Scotia area (born mid 1800 area) that fathered a child with a young girl (miaden name Jackson in her mid to late teens) and then eventually moved west? This is a major family secret that could help answer a lot of questions.
