Passenger Lists for Ships Carrying the
"Foreign Protestants" to Nova Scotia
The following excerpt, in German, was kindly sent to me by Ria Kannetzky of Germany. It is the agreement between the passengers of the Ship Pearl (1751) and the agent John Dick. Thank you to Robert Bauch for providing the English translation.
Wie kommt man ohne Geld nach Amerika?
Wir, die untergeschriebenen Passagiere an Bord des Schiffes genannt die Pearl,
gef�hrt von hier aus Rotterdam �ber See nach Halifax, gelegen in der Provinz
Nova Scotia oder Neu-Schottland in Nordamerika, bezeugen und bekennen
hiermit: dass wir an den Herrn John Dick, Seiner Britannischen Majestats
Agent von der Provinz Nova Scotia in der Port [Hafen] Rotterdam, [�] f�r
unsere und unserer Familien Transportation von hier nach [�] Nova Scotia
[�] in hollaendischer Waehrung und Summen auf eine ehrliche, treuliche und
rechtm��ige Weise schuldig sind [�] treulichst zu bezahlen und abzufuehren,
durch unserer Haende Arbeit in allem demjenigen, was der all dasige Herr
Gouverneur von uns zu begehren oder befinden wird und zwar Arbeitslohn 18
Pence Sterling taeglich abzuverdienen so lange, bis unsere Schulden [�]

How you can reach America without money?
We, the under-written passengers on board the ship called the Pearl, led from here from
Rotterdam convenient over lake to Halifax, in the province Nova Scotia or new Scotland
in North America, testify and admit hereby: to exhaust that we to the Mr. John Thick, his
Britanni Majestats agent of the province new facts Scotia in the haven [ port ]
Rotterdam, [? ] for ours and after [? ] new facts Scotia [? ] in Dutch currency and sums
on an honest to pay treuliche and legal way are guilty of our families Transportation from
here [? ] treulichst and, through our hands work in everything that that the all dasige Mr.
governor from us desires to or will find wages 18 pence of Sterling abzuverdienen daily
so for a long time paid to our debts [? ] its [ becomes ]. Personally signing and
unterzeichnete, Actum Rotterdam, 30 June 1751.
We, who signed passengers on board of the ship the Pearl named, led from here

North America, attest and confess with this: that we at the Mr.
John thickly, its Britannischen Majestats agents of the province novelties Scotia in the
Port [harbor] Rotterdam, [�] for our and our families Transportation of here after [�]
novelties Scotia [�] in DutchCurrency and sums on an honest, truly and lawful manner
indebted are [�] to pay and to take away most truly, through our hands work in all that,
what that becomes to desire or to find all dasige Mr. governor of us and be [become] to
be sure wage 18 Pence sterlings daily abzuverdienen so long, until our guilt [�] paid.
