In early years he worked as a truck driver and then as a lumberman and carpenter, which he worked at for most of his life. He was a member and past Noble Grand of Maple Lodge, No. 155, in Parkdale, and at his death he held the office of vice grand. He was a past member of Royal Canadian Legion in Kingston. He was a member of Epworth United Church, New Germany. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 102, New Germany; he served in the Military in Canada and overseas for 10 years. He was the co-owner of Brown's Self Storage. Owen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and also a member of the male choir. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He owned and operated Atlantic Transport Consultants and also worked for 27 years at the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Halifax. He was an auxiliary member of the RCMP for 13 years. He will be missed by the many friends he made over the years while living in Beaver Bank. Born in Mahone Bay, he was a son of the late Albert and Charlotte (Keddy) Burgoyne. He was a veteran of the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Air Force serving in Iceland. Following the war Donald founded D.A. Burgoyne Enterprises Ltd in 1947 and remained the president until his retirement. He was a member of the Mahone Bay United Baptist Church, Mahone Bay. He has been active member of the Charity Lodge 69, AM & FM, Mahone Bay since 1948, where he held the officers positions of Junior and Senior Warden, Master, District Deputy Grand Master and he received his 50 year jewel in 1998 and also completed his 32 degree Scottish Rite. He was a past member of the Mahone Bay Fire Department for 26 years, serving as Fire Chief for 20 years. He was a past president of the Maritime Fire Chiefs Association. He served on the Mahone Bay Town Council for a number of years as Deputy Mayor and also as past President of the Board for Lunenburg Regional Vocational School. Donald participated in many other various local groups and organizations. Wednesday, March 29, 2000 The Halifax Herald Limited STEVENS, Percy Edward STEVENS, Percy Edward - 73, Blandford, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2000 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born on Tancook Island, he was a son of the late Arch and Sarah (White) Stevens. Percy's sailing career began on the cable ship, Lord Kelvin. He retired from the Great Lakes with Shell Canadian Tankers in 1979. He was a member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford; Blandford Seasiders; Clark Lodge 61, Chester and served as commissioner in the Blandford Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, the former Gloria Gates; son, Edward, Montreal; daughter, Natalie (Greg) Miller, Simms Settlement; sisters, Elva (William) Sawler, Chester; Glennie (Donald) Schnare, Blandford; Mabel (Roy) Schnare, Deep Cove; grandchildren, Shayla and Jordan Miller. He was predeceased by his son, Kenneth; brothers, Cecil and Sterling. Visitation Thursday 2-4, 7-9 p.m., with Masonic service 7:30 p.m., both in Davis Funeral Home, Chester. Funeral service 2 p.m. Friday, in St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford, Rev. Richard Walsh officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Family flowers only. Thursday, March 30, 2000 The Halifax Herald Limited ZINCK, Gordon Leon ZINCK, Gordon Leon - 66, Rose Bay, Lunenburg Co., died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Rose Bay, he was a son of the late Lawson and May (Whynacht) Zinck. In his earlier years he worked as a scallop fisherman and later worked with Riverport Seafoods Ltd. until 1981. Gordon then went to work with the Bedford Institute of Oceanography until 1985 and then he worked until his retirement in 1991, with National Sea Products, Lunenburg. He was a member of Trinity United Church, Rose Bay. Gordon will be sadly missed by his family and friends who were so important in his life. He is survived by his wife, the former Janet Oxner; daughter, Sharon and her husband Michael Ritcey, Pleasantville; son, Terry and his wife Sandra, Barrington Passage; sister, Sylvia and her husband Richard Knox, Lower Rose Bay; half-sister, Joyce Hazel Hardiman, Halifax; grandson, Terry Brock; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. 3, Lunenburg. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, in Trinity United Church, Rose Bay, Rev. Vivian Moores officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Kingburg. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late James W. W. and Ruby A. (Corbitt) MacKenzie. Surviving are her husband, Marshall; daughter, Judith Mae Abwunza, Waterloo, Ont., brother, Donald, Kentville; sisters, Muriel Ling, Lunenburg; Jean Hastings, Kentville; several nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by sisters, Maxine, Ruby, Ina. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, Wolfville. No visitation by request. Memorial service 2 p.m. Saturday, in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Wolfville, Rev. Dr. Das Sydney officiating. Burial of ashes in Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville at a later date.
