Obituaries - August 1997 Tuesday, August 5, 1997 BUSHEN, Lemuel Davis BUSHEN, Lemuel Davis - 80, 49 Meldrum Ave., Bridgewater, died August 3, 1997, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Infirmary Site, following heart surgery. Born in Worcester, Mass., he was a son of the late Charles and Jessie (MacRae) Bushen. The family moved home to West Dublin, Lunenburg Co., when he was very young. He attended school in West Dublin and went to sea, serving on various merchant ships. During the war, he served in the Merchant Navy from 1939-1945. He was employed by Markland Shipping Co., and Bowater Mersey Paper Co. as a rigger, retiring in 1979 after 33 years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater, and the Canadian Merchant Navy Association. Following retirement, he enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Avernia Pernette; son, David and wife Lorna, Little River, Cumberland Co.; grandchildren, Gregory, John, Ann; adopted sister, Helen (Risser) Deane, Toronto. Leland enjoyed life and was a good friend to all who knew him.
