John E. Cripe
December 1, 1925 -- March 22, 2005
John Edward Cripe, 79, of Merced died Tuesday at Doctors Medical Center,
Modesto. Mr. Cripe was a native of Rio Oso. He lived in Merced 48 years and
previously lived in Modesto eight years. He was an educator and school
administrator for 40 years, and taught at Stanislaus Union School, Ceres
Elementary School and Merced City Schools. He graduated from Westmont College
and the University of the Pacific in Stockton. He was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Merced, Merced Lions Club and Merced County Genealogy Society,
and enjoyed fishing, camping, travel and reading.
He is survived by his wife, Syvilla Ann Cripe of Merced; children, Daniel Edward
Cripe of Antelope and David William Cripe of Lake Forest; brothers, Carl E.
Cripe and Donald O. Cripe, both of Modesto, D. Earl Cripe of Sonora and C.
Richard Cripe of Denair; sisters, Charlotte A. Peck and Erma M. Jones, both of
Modesto, Dorothy J. Cypert of Lodi and Esther M. Douglas of Chico; and three
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at La Loma Grace Brethren Church, Modesto,
with burial at Wood Colony Cemetery, Modesto. A memorial service will be at 10
a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Merced. Remembrances may be made to
