ALTON BAKER, 82
Retired master sergeant
Alton Baker, a Merced resident for 40 years, died Friday at home.
Mr. Baker was born Jan. 2, 1917 in Ellenburg Center, N.Y. He served 21 years in
the U. S. Air Force, retiring as a master sergeant. He also worked for the
California park system for 13 years. He was a member of the National Association
for Uniform Services, a life member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 31, a
member of Odd Fellows Willow Lodge No. 121, the California Rangers Association,
Air Force Sergeants Association, American Legion Post No. 83, Merced County
Historical Association, Merced County Genealogical Society and the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, third ward.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Helen Baker of Merced; two sons, Grant
Baker of Planada and Tim Baker of Merced; three grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Mike Woodman
will officiate. Burial will be in Arbor-Vitae Cemetery in Madera. Military
honors will be provided by the American Legion Post No. 83.
