Barbara Lee Tuck
July 21, 1919-August 28, 2011
Barbara Lee Tuck, age 92, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving
family. She was born July 21, 1919 in Cathey's Valley, California. She was
the daughter of Perle (Cornett) and Ernie Day and was a member of a pioneer
family. She is a direct descendant of Andrew and Mary Cathey who settled
Cathey's Valley in 1852. She was involved in the Cathey's Valley Historical
Society helping to restore the Cathey's Valley School. She helped plan many
family reunions held in Cathey's Valley. She has been a genealogist for over
40 years. She has shared her love of family and history with so many people
and inspired many others to pursue their own family history.
Barbara attended school in Cathey's Valley and graduated from Mariposa High
School in 1937. She attended college in Stockton, California. On July 5,
1940 she married Doyle Tuck in Carson City, Nevada. She and Doyle owned Tuck
and Day Furniture in Merced, California in the 50's and early 60's. She also
worked for Dr. Barger's Veterinarian Clinic in Merced. When they retired,
she and Doyle moved to Twain Harte, California and enjoyed their beautiful
mountain community for 24 years. Their door was always open to many friends
and family. After her husband died in 2004, she moved back to Merced where
she resided until her death. She enjoyed researching genealogy, traveling,
and spending time with her family and her four great-grandsons. Even after
she was no longer able to get out to visit, she remained actively involved
with her friends and family through phone calls and e-mails.
Barbara is survived by her three children, Douglas (Gail) of Vancouver
Washington, Virginia Harris (David) of Merced California and Dennis
(Carolyn) of Twain Harte, California; her eight grandchildren - Diane Tuck,
