Ellen M. McKerlie Moffatt

Ellen M. Moffatt, a longtime resident of Merced, returned with her family in
1988. She was 70 years young.
Ellen was born in Mercy Hospital, Merced on September 9, 1931. Survivors include
her spouse, Frank G. Moffatt, sons Brand John Moffatt, Merced, Sean G. Moffatt,
Pacific Grove, CA and daughter, Maureen M. Amant, Auburn, WA. Ellen has five
grandchildren, Ian L, Moffatt, Jessica A. Moffatt, Alex M. Moffatt, Aiden M.
Amant, and Lauren Evans, living in Belleville, NJ. From her father’s side, she
has two aunts, Jyme McKerlie Stone of Sacramento, CA. From her mother’s side,
she has Edith Schofield Haskell, currently living in Merced.
Ellen was preceded in death by her father, Jack G. McKerlie, born in Oakland,
CA., mother, Clara Virginia Schofield McKerlie, of Merced, and a sister,
Jacqueline V. Carver.
The Schofield family was part of the early history of the Merced area. Their
roots trace back through the Schofield, Hainline, and Bowman families, pioneers
of the Merced and Lone Tree areas.
Ellen was a member of the American Legion and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a
long time member of the Merced County Genealogical Society and the Merced
Friendship Club. She was an ardent traveler on the Atwater Cherish bus tours to
any and all Casinos, and other points of interest.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m till 1 p.m. at the Stratford Evans Chapel, 1490
B. Street, Merced, on Saturday, December 22, 2001. A short service will follow
visitation at 1 p.m. with a reception to be held at the Veterans Memorial Hall,
East Wing, on Main Street ( 17th Street ), Merced.
Burial will be private. The family requests that in lieu of flowers,
contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
