Longtime area resident Diana Kauth, 63, died suddenly in Merced late afternoon
on May 2nd. Diana was a loving wife, devoted mother, and friend to many. After
her husband's retirement, Diana in her later years enjoyed traveling in the
family RV, visiting family across the country and into Canada and Mexico. She
enjoyed gardening, her cats, and researching genealogy. She had many friends in
the area.
Diana Kauth was born in San Francisco on April 19, 1943 to Ralph and Elsa (Rosenlund)
Mooers, of San Francisco. After attending high school in Burlingame, she was
married to Clarence (Bink) Kauth in 1961. She raised daughter Barbara and son
James through several moves from Cupertino, CA to Chambersburg, PA, and finally
to Winton, CA. Diana and her family moved to a small cattle ranch, later
converted to almond orchards, north of Merced in the Amsterdam area in 1973. She
enjoyed living in the country - keeping a large garden, checking cattle,
irrigating, raising calves, keeping chickens, coffee sessions with neighbors,
and playing guitar for children at the local school and at Hopeton church. She
was very active in the community as a 4-H leader; sang in the Merced Sweet
Adelines chorus; is a charter member of, and co-founded Merced's first genealogy
society; and was co-founder of an MS support group in Merced. She'd struggled
with Multiple Sclerosis for 40 years and never gave up hope that a cure was
right around the corner. Despite her disability, she was active until recent
years. Diana was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Elsa Mooers.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bink Kauth of Winton; a brother,
Wayne Mooers of Lafayette, CA; a daughter, Barbara Adamson of Grapevine, TX; a
son, James Kauth, of Santa Maria, CA; a granddaughter, Sara Kauth, of Santa
Maria, CA; a mother-in-law, Agnes Kauth, of Winton; along with many nephews,
nieces and dear friends. There will be an optional visitation on Monday, May 8,
from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by a memorial gathering to celebrate her life
at 1:00 pm. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, those inclined send
donations to the Snelling Women's Club, the Merced St. Vincent de Paul Society,
the MS Society, or to the charity of their choice.
