Mildred Stout DeWing born February 7, 1911 in West Plains, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2009 in Merced, California. She was 97 years old.
Mildred was the third of four children born to William and Viola Stout. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl C. DeWing; her three siblings; her eldest sons, Robin A. DeWing and Ronald S. DeWing and by a great grandson, Sean DeWing.
Mildred and her husband Carl moved from Wichita, Kansas to Merced, California in 1937. Mr. DeWing established the Carl DeWing Sheet Metal Shop in the late 1940's and continued in business until retirement in 1977. Mildred worked as office manager in the family business.
Mildred was active in the PTA for many years, serving as the Merced City President. She always promoted education and was active in her children's schools. She was a member of Soroptimist International, the Merced Historical Society, the Merced Genealogy Club, the Antique Club, Eastern Star, United Methodist Women, AARP, and was a member since 1938 of the United Methodist Church of Merced.
Mildred is survived by her son, Carl D. DeWing and wife Carole of Redmond, Oregon; and by two daughters, Connie and husband Charles Jones of Merced and Melinda and husband Bernd Werny of Bellingham, Washington. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.
A funeral service in celebration of Mildred's long life will be held at the United Methodist Church, 899 Yosemite Parkway, Merced, on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with burial following at the Merced District Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Church of Merced, 899 Yosemite Parkway, Merced, California 95340 for children's ministries.
