Helen C. Baker was born in Visalia, Ca on September 27, 1921 to Ambros and
Hannah Burkhart. She passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the age of 88.
Helen married Alton Baker and for the next 20 years she was a Air Force wife.
She and Alton bought a cattle ranch in 1968 following his retirement from the
Air Force. Helen was a member of the Rebecca Lodge in Snelling, Merced
Genealogical Society and Merced County Historical Society. Searching her
ancestry was her passion. Helen loved to write short stories and had been a
member of the Merced Writers Club.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Alton Baker, she is survived by two
sons Grant Baker and wife Lenda of Planada and Tim Baker of Merced,
grandchildren Amber Baker, Peter Baker and Connie Barham and four
great-grandchildren. Helen was grandma to everyone who knew her.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at
Whitton Family Funeral Service, 740 W. 19th street in Merced. A Graveside
Service will be held on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Arbor Vitae
Cemetery, 1301 Roberts Ave. in Madera.
