Sir Ernest Hall OBE. DL. is a well-known concert pianist, musician, property developer and entrepreneur who, with his son Jeremy and Jonathan Silver, bought the Dean Clough site in 1983 to establish Dean Clough Galleries and Dean Clough Industrial Park.
In 1994, he received the Albert medal from the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacturing and Commerce, and he was made a Vice President of the RSA in the same year.
He has made a number of recordings, and in 1994/5, he recorded the three Bartok Piano Concertos and the Lutoslawski Concerto with the Leeds Sinfonia.
In 1996, he was installed as Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield.
In 1997, he received the ABSA Goodman Award for outstanding achievement in the encouragement of business support for the Arts.
He is Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, and Deputy Chairman of Eureka!.
He and his wife, June, lived at Damside House, Mill Bank.
In 1975, he bought Royds Hall, Low Moor and lived there until he put it up for sale in 2004 when he and his family planned to move abroad.
In the 1980s, he bought the Field House estate, Sowerby, having gone to the house to buy a piano
