The Epitaph on the chest tomb for James Smith & family at Sowerby Parish Church


The trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be rais'd
Near this place
was interred the bodies of seven
children of James Smith
   
Martha Smith his wife died
Decr 27th 1781 in the 81st year of her age
   
Also James Smith the above said
died June 5th 1788 aged 82 years
   
Elizabeth daughter of David Smith
died Sept 16th 1768 aged 8 weeks
and Sarah his daughter died March
18th 1783 aged 10 months
   
Likewise Joshua Smith his son died
Octr 8th 1798 aged 22 years
   
Also Sarah the wife of David Smith
died Febr 29th 1804 aged 57 years
   
Also James Smith son of the last
mentioned David and Sarah Smith
who died in Leeds April 10th 1817 in
the 49th year of his age: and was
interred in St Peters Churchyard
   
Also the said David Smith who
died June 4th 1825 in the 81st year
of his age: Through life he was
distinguished for his knowledge and
love of music: the practice of which
it was his chief pleasure to promote.
in his youth he was well known as
a vocal performer of some eminence
and was upwards of 70 years a regular
singer at Sowerby Church
   
At the foot of the tomb
   
Also in LONDON on the same day
and at the same hour as the above
died DAVID SMITH his son in the 46th
year of his age: He was interred in
St Pancras Church Yard
