Rev Samuel Knight MA. was born in Halifax, the eldest son of Titus Knight. He was baptised by Rev Dr George Legh who at first refused because he thought that the child had died.
He was educated at Hipperholme Grammar School. He was a Fellow of Magdalene College Cambridge and vicar of Humberston in Lincolnshire before becoming Vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Halifax [1798] and Vicar of Halifax [1817-1827].
He published popular devotional manuals, including Forms of Prayers for the use of Christian Families published by N. Whitley [1829]. His son, James, edited [1828] 2 volumes of Samuel's sermons and other writings.
Anne Lister studied arithmetic, geometry, mechanics, rhetoric, Latin and Greek with him.
He married Frances [1767-1832].
