ANNOUNCEMENTS

Subject: War of 1812 - Perserve the Pensions Widget

There has been a campaign this past year to raise funds for the "War of 1812 Pension Digitization Project". I first heard of this earlier this year and immediately donated some funds. I think this is a VERY worthwhile project and impacts the genealogical community directly. I have several direct ancestors who fought in the War of 1812 as I believe many of you do too. Wouldn't it be nice to look these records up digitally, instead of sending a letter to the National Archives and hoping for a positive response.

I was contacted by Curt Witcher of the Allen County Library today asking for help within our community. He said David Rencher and his team put together a couple of widgets for society's web pages. If you could look at them and ask your board members to take a look, I would appreciate it. Please consider helping out the genealogical community as a whole.

You can see the widgets HERE.

You can see the Preserve the Pensions home page HERE.

Thank you for your time,

Subject: Genealogy Education Classes Online

As I wrote in the CVGS Newsletter, there will be genealogy classes available online, live from RootsTech 2013 in Salt Lake City, on Thursday, March 21, Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23. You can see the list of presentations at www.rootstech.org (scroll down for the list). The times given there are MDT, so subtract one hour for PDT. The classes start at 7:30 PDT.

There should be a viewing window at www.rootstech.org for the classes, or a link to the viewing window.

Also, the handouts for most of the RootsTech 2013 classes (including many not shown online) are available by clicking individual subjects on the class lists at www.rootstech.org/schedule/sessions. To see classes on each day, click on the tabs at the top of the page.

I will be in Salt Lake City from Tuesday through Sunday, reporting on my experiences at the FHL and at RootsTech on my blog, www.geneamusings.com.

I hope that you are able to take advantage of these educational opportunities.

Cheers -- Randy Seaver
