Francis McKiernan  1880-1949

Francis was a fire brigade man in the Glasgow area, and later a  boiler rigger at the John Brown Shipyards, where he worked all through WW1.

In 1919 Francis moved his wife and three children back
to Drumhallagh, Cloone, Mohill, Co. Leitrim to run the
family farm.
  From there he left for New York in 1922.

McKIERNAN GENEALOGY

 

John McKiernan, 36 year old widower, married Mary Healy, a spinster, on Feb. 11, 1871.  Both are listed as living in Drumhallagh, Cloone, Mohill, Co. Leitrim.  John's father is also John McKiernan, while Mary's is Francis Healy.

Francis McKiernan was born to John & Mary c. 1880, at Drumhallagh, Cloone, Mohill, Co. Leitrim but does not appear to be in the Irish Birth Index.  He had an older brother, Patrick, and both had older half-sisters, one named Bessie.

Francis migrated to the Irish community in Glasgow c. 1900 as he does not appear in the Irish Census of 1901.  John McKiernan (60), Mary McKiernan (50) and Patrick (24) are shown at Halls, Cloone, Mohill, Leitrim in that census.

On Jan 2, 1906 Francis married Margaret Nicholson  b. Dec 3, 1878 Dunbarton, Scotland / d. Feb 1970 Bronx, NY USA u

They had 3 children, all born in Scotland:

  2. Catherine (Kitty)

  3. Francis (Frank)
