Taylor Fluellen + Sally Burt

Family of Taylor Fluellen and Sally Burt

Taylor Fluellen, son of William Fluellen and Betsy Holloway [6], married Sally Burt, daughter of Joseph Burt and Elizabeth [-?-], probably before 1782. Census records provide no details on Sally's age, but a birth year around 1764 is logical based on the birthdates of her brothers and sisters.

Taylor Flewellen appears on a 1783 Halifax County tax list [2], and a census taken there in 1786 listed the household of Taylor Fluellen as follows:

12 Feb 1786 District 12: Taylor Fleweling 1m 21-60, 2m <21>60, 2f, 1 black 12-50, 1 black <12>50

The 1790 census of Halifax Co., gives

Taylor Flewellin, Halifax Dist. (R16): 1m <16, 2m >16, 3 f (6 slaves)

While Sally Burt and her husband were alive in 1788 when the will of Joseph Burt was recorded, she had died by 1812 when her mother and her brothers and sisters sold land to Thomas Coleman in Halifax County. [1]

It appears that Taylor Fluellen and Sally Burt moved to Warren County, Georgia before they died: the 1805 Georgia land lottery records that the "orphans of Taylor FlewEllen" as well as Eaton FlewEllen drew one blank, all from Warren County.

Taylor Fluellen died about 1797: on 18 Jul 1797 in Warren County, John Mathews and Shadrack K. Fluellen posted a guardian's bond (with Abner and Alexander Fluellen securities) for the minors of Taylor Fluellen, deceased. The minors listed were Fanny Fluellen, Stephen Fluellen and Taylor Fluellen. (On 3 Nov 1806, John Gibson posted a guardian's bond for T. Fluellen, minor of Taylor Fluellen, deceased). [5]
