Ezekiel Whitney1

b. circa 1755, d. between 1840 and 1850
  • Ezekiel Whitney was born circa 1755 at Ridgefield, Fairfield Co., Connecticut.3
  • He married Patience Bailey.1
  • Ezekiel Whitney died between 1840 and 1850.
  • He was a shoemaker and had a distribution of his father's estate, 20 Jun 1763. He was living at Ridgefield, Connecticut, 17 Sep 1778 when he bought his brother Thomas Whitney's share of his father's land, and on 6 May 1783 when he quitclaimed certain land to the proprietors of Ridgefield. Records show that he was living in Dutchess County, New York, 15 April 1793. Descendants stated that he lived at Danbury, Connecticut prior to moving to Dutchess County, and afterwards moved to Saugerties, Ulster Co., New York where his wife died. Ezekiel then lived with his son David on the "Kauters Kill" in Catskill, New York where he died aged 98 years, 6 months, and 12 days. His family record was destroyed many years ago in the burning of the lighthouse at Saugerties Creek of which he was a keeper. He served in the Revolutionary War and received a pension. There is no accurate record of his birth or death, although Phoenix S. Whitney estimates his birth at about 1755. On the 1840 census he is listed as above 90 in his son David's household, which according to P.S. Whitney, "seems too large."3
