  • Some descendants retained the surname, "Tysen," while others the surname, "Tice." Still others have the surname, "Pietersen." Early Dutch Settlers of Monmouth County (Beekman, p.114) says that some of the family moved to Bucks or Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and retained the Tysen surname. Those who remaiined in Monmouth County spelled their name as Tice, and Pieter's son, Mattias, went by the name of Matthias Peterse, with descendants being the Petersons of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.8
  • Pieter Thyszen is claimed as a son of Thys Jansen Laenen Van Peelt by A. Van Dorn Honeyman (SCHQ 2:118-119) who provides no evidence to support the claim.

In the Nov 1818 congressional petition, filed by Mary Brower, maiden name Losier, widow of Abraham Brower, s/o Abraham, s/o Abraham, s/o Adam, she lists the children of Jeremiah Brower, she says that Jeremiah Brower is dead, and he was the brother of her own dead husband Abraham.
I have the 22 pages which are photocopies of the ORIGINAL documents, which the National archives sent to me. The copies are very good, and I studied them last summer.
Mary said that Jeremiah Brower had 7 children, but she only listed the names of 6 children, meaning perhaps one of them was dead prior to Nov 1818 when she filed the petition.

    Lawrence Brower
    George Brower

This list, begun at 23:93, is continued at 24:19 with the explanation that the list is "actually a group pf signatures (many of them not holograph, however) to the declaration below, which it does indeed follow in the original record book." Those signing the declaration were 1-Acknowledging Dom. G. Haeghoort as their legal regular pastor and teacher, according to the constitution of the Low Dutch Reformed Church. 2- That they will display and conduct themselves willingly in all respects as members of the Reformed Low Dutch congregation at Friholt and Middletown under the supervision of their pastor Do. Haeghoort. 3- That they will contribute freely from time to time according to their means, whatever is needed to carry on the church and services. In effect, those signing the declaration could be described as Members of the Low Dutch Reformed Congregations of Freehold and Middletown. The first couple of dozen or so names appear at 23:93, 94, as "Church Members," and then are repeated at 24:20 with the above clarification..
