  • He settled on the grant of land given to Capt. John Evans, patent dated 1695 but annulled in 1699, in Ulster County, New York. He was the first settler in the town of Marlboro, and lived on the stream called "Old Man's Kil" in 1697. He paid taxes in Marlboro and Plattekill in 1714-15, 1718 and in 1724-25, was called "Old Denis" and his name disapears from the records after 1725. He is found in the records of the French Huguenot Church, later the Reformed Dutch Church of New Paltz, in May 1693 as a sponsor at the baptism of Isaac, son of Hugo Frere and Marie Anne Le Roy.1
