Ariaentje Cuvilje1

b. before 1598, d. May 1655
  • Also known as Adrianna Cuveillé.5
  • Also known as Ariaentje Cuvel.3
  • It has been said that Ariaentje Cuvilje was endowed by her forbearers with a violently rebelious streak, as seen from a report in Holland that she played football with Indian's heads brought to Fort Amsterdam after Gov. Kieft's attacks in 1643. Her daughter Christina inherited the streak as evidenced from her resistance to her stepfather during his attempt to throw her family out of her mother's house. In turn Christina's daughter Magdalena continued the famous trait through her exploits.6
