"BRUYERE left Bruyeres, County of Vosges, Alsace Lorraine, France around 1589 and migrated west to Cherve, in the Champagne area of France." The spelling in French is Chervey, and it is a "small village south east of Troyes in the mountains just east of Bur-sur Seine."

On 7 Aug 1709 the pastor of the church at Daubhausen signed the marriage and baptism record of this family. Dates are taken from the register in the "Church of Daubhausen in the land and county of Colire, Griefenstein, by one Jacques Goret of said church July 10, 1709."
Jacque had a brother Pierre who married Susannah Thibaud most likely the daughter of Danile Thibaud, shown on the Daubhausen plaque, who was probably married in Chevre, France and she died in Monmouth County, New Jersey. They had one child, Jean, born in 1679.3
