Johannes Philipp Zimmerle was born 1 Mar 1808 in Wilgartswiesen. When
he was 24 years old he and his brother-in-law, Jacob Hauck who was married to
Margaret Zimmerle, emigrated to the United States. Their naturalization
records show that they emigrated in July 1832. By 1836 they were both in
Knox County, IN where they applied for naturalization. (2) He married
Elizabeth Reel in Knox County on3 Feb 1836. (3) They had one son and then
Elizabeth must have died because he married Catherine Hornbeck on 11 Jan 1841 in
Knox County. (4) She too much have died for John Philip Zimmerle married for a
third time on 19 Jul 1845 to Rose Ann Whitney. She lived to the age of 79.
John Philip Zimmerle owned land in Knox County and helped start the Reformed
Lutheran Church in Olney. (5) (6) His brother, Philip Jacob Zimmerle, died in
1854 and his estate was settled amongst his siblings. (7) John Philip
Zimmerle died 23 Nov 1890 in Olney, Richland, IL. (8) He was buried in Haven
Hill Cemetery, Olney, Richland, IL. (9) John Philip's wife, Rose Ann,
died 22 Jun 1904 after birthing 11 children. (10)

(7) His brother Philip Jacob Zimmerle died in 1854 leaving an estate of
$944.96 to his five surviving brothers and sisters.
Below is the receipt from John P. Zimmerle with his signature.
(8) His death date of November 23, 1890, is from the Olney Times
Advocate dated Friday, November 28, 1890 and lists his age at death as 83.
This would make his birth year, 1807. By these figures he would have been 25
when he came to the United States. After his death, his wife and heirs were summoned to court. The home on North Walnut Street in Olney, Illinois, was seized for lack of payment. His wife Rose Ann went to live with her son, John C. Zimmerle on West Lafayette Street. In the 1900 census Rose Ann is listed as living at the same residence as her son and his family. |
