"Life Resident of Indiana, 91, dies
Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Newcomb, 91 years old, life resident of Indiana, who died Sunday, will be buried at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the home of her daughter, Mrs. John S. Wright, 3718 North Pennsylvania street. Burial will be in Crown Hill and will be private. Mrs. Newcomb was the daughter of Ebenezer Newcomb, who came to Indiana in 1810 from New York, and of Elizabeth Hess, who came to Indiana from Virginia in 1821. Her father built the Tunnel mills at Vernon, Ind. Mrs. Newcomb's husband was a civil war veteran and operated the mills prior to enlisting. During the war Mrs. Newcomb remained with her two small sons and took an active part with other women in war work. Mrs. Newcomb had lived in Indianapolis for thirty years. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Wright, and one son Leland L. Newcomb of Long Beach, Cal."

Above is a photo of John Shepard Wright taken when he was a youngster.  He helped start Eli Lilly Drug Company.  When he died he left his money to his wife with the provision that when she died the estate would be divided between their heirs.  His heirs were all the descendants of his grandparents, Ben and Eliza Shepard
