Nixon Family Memorials, by Jean W. Cox, 1970

"The Whites were members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Henry being elected an elder in 1865 and remained in office the rest of his life. He was very active in the affairs of the church and was on the building committee of the second church that was dedicated free of debt in 1883.  Total cost of the building was $10,500.  He served in the Civil War from Fayette Co., Penna.  Henry was stationed at Camp Pickett after his enlistment.  He was first employed by Edmund Beeson, son of Isaac Beeson, who had a hardware store on Main Street.  In 1856 Henry was placed in full control of this store, and after conducting the business for several years, he purchased the stock in 1865, and associated with him in business Peter J. Stouffer.  They added a full line of groceries.  Mr. Stouffer withdrew and he continued the business alone, moving to another location on the same street.  Later he sold out and moved to a farm in Washington County and then to Cadiz, Ohio, where he farmed until the death of his wife.  He then made his home with his son, John in Uniontown; after John's death he lived with his son Charles in New Jersey.

Sarah Frances died at their home near Cadiz, Ohio 31 Aug. 1910 aged 75 years.  She had been an invalid for several years, her death being due to paralysis.  The predominance of red hair has been a tradition among certain descendants of the Nixon families.  Sarah Frances inherited her mother's auburn hair and her son John and her two daughters had red hair.  It has carried on through the grandchildren.  Henry died at the home of his son Charles 12 March 1927 in Millville, N. J. They were both buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Uniontown, Penna."
