From "The Wales Family: A Genealogy" by Charles P. Wales
A twin of Sarah Wales.
"He went from Union, CT to South Brimfield with his brother Elijah in 1778. The
History of Wales described Shubal (or Shubel as it was also spelled), in its
usual flowery and opinionated language, as follows"
'It is far from our desire to saught and belittle Uncle Shubel, as he was
familiarly called , and we incur no recreancy in penning a phrase assertive of
the fact that he was not accounted as being very store minded, sagacious, or
shrewd: his intellect was of the moonshiny order, silvery, smooth, bland, he was
moderately agile and dexterous, but not energetic or forcible: never accumulated
much property: never was a hard worker, and always contented. Quiet, cheerful
apparently untroubled, was a good lad to chore about and do light work, and like
the little busy bee, would be ever humming about over some note or ditty in his
monotonous but care-defying tone. His moral character was just as uncurst of
evil, just clear untaintedness of wrong, and as completely meriting every
person's approbation, as could easily be found anywhere connected with our frail
humanity.'"
